What Is The Oldest City In Bavaria? ULTIMATE Augsburg Guide!
Augsburg is the oldest city in the state of Bavaria and is Germany's third-largest city. Founded by the Romans in 15 BC Augsburg has a long, rich, and turbulent history. The city’s age and historical significance, as well as the fact that it is now a protected UNESCO World Heritage site, ensures the city is a very popular destination for tourists traveling through Bavaria. With its fabulous old town of charming streets and hidden squares, Augsburg is a vibrant and lively city steeped in history, and in our opinion, is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Bavaria. We love Augsburg and we hope that this guide we’ve put together will help you to discover everything that this beautiful and historic city has to offer from stunning architecture to a vibrant arts scene and its delicious regional cuisine. Trust us when we say Augsburg has something for everyone, is one of the Best Cities to Visit in Bavaria, and we're confident that you'll fall in love with this amazing city, just as we have!
Augsburg History | A Brief Overview
Whilst there have been indications of a Bronze Age settlement here on the location where Augsburg now stands it was, as we previously mentioned, officially founded as a settlement by the Romans in 15BC. Nero Claudius Drusus was the first Roman military leader to launch a campaign across the Rhine in an effort to conquer the tribes of Germania, and it was here that he maintained a “base of operations” in the area. Interesting to note is that the town played a significant role in the defense of the region against invading forces over the years also, such as the Hungarians, who were decisively defeated by King Otto I in 955. Augsburg's status as an imperial free city, granted in 1276, likely contributed to its growth and prosperity, as did its membership in the Swabian League in 1331. Below are all the most significant dates in the history of the City of Augsburg. - 15 BC: Augsburg was founded by the Romans. - 5th century: Augsburg becomes part of the Holy Roman Empire. - 11th century: Augsburg becomes an important center of trade and commerce. - 13th century: Augsburg becomes a free imperial city. - 16th century: Augsburg is home to a number of important cultural and intellectual figures, including the theologian and monk St. Ulrich and the Renaissance artist Albrecht Dürer. - 19th century: Augsburg became an important center of the textile industry in Germany. - 1945: Augsburg is heavily bombed during World War II and is subsequently rebuilt. - 2011: The historic center of Augsburg is added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. For a full and more complete History of Augsburg check out the city's entry on the Britannica Website.

Things to Do in Augsburg | Our Top 13 Recommendations
As you can imagine with such a vast history, this is a city plentiful with things to do. Following is our recommended list of the Best Things to Do in Augsburg based on our own experiences in the city. 1. Augsburg Town Hall This spectacular Renaissance-style building located in the Augsburger Old Town was completed in 1620 and is at the heart of the city. The Golden Hallway within is a magnificent example of Baroque art is a highlight. The ceiling paintings and gold artistry are truly fabulous, and it is definitely worth seeing in person. We highly recommend visiting during the Christmas season, when the Christmas angels appear in the windows of the main Town Hall, overlooking the Christkindl Christmas market below in the Rathausplatz town square. It’s a truly wonderful and memorable experience and one that is well worth visiting. Location: Rathausplatz 2, 86150 Augsburg, Germany Website: augsburg.de 2. The Fuggerei Jakob Fugger, who is believed to have been one of the wealthiest people in the world 500 years ago, and the Fugger Family, founded The Fuggere in 1516. This is a fascinating example of a public housing project believed to be the first of its type in the world. The institution that is the Fuggerei here in Augsburg still exists today, and visitors can go inside some of the houses to learn more about its history. The Fuggerei is an impressive and interesting place, particularly for history buffs - don’t miss the old air raid shelter on the property that is worth visiting. Displays are available in both English and German and some of the videos also have English subtitles, making it a fascinating and informative place to visit. This is the oldest social housing complex in the world but people still live here, however, so do be respectful when walking about. Location: Fuggerei 56, 86152 Augsburg, Germany Website: fugger.de 3. Mazda Car Museum What? Did we really say Mazda? In one of the most famous car manufacturing regions on the planet that sports the likes of BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz we’re talking about Mazda? Correct! Don’t worry, if you're not a car enthusiast, you'll still enjoy the cute cars from the 60s and racing machines that are on display at the Mazda Museum here in Augsburg. The museum provides a good overview of the history of these cars and also introduces visitors to the evolution of rotary engines. The presentation of the cars is top class and the museum provides information in both German and English for each car on display. This is the only Mazda Museum outside of Japan, making it a unique and interesting place to visit. For car lovers, this is a must. Location: Wertachstraße 29b, 86153 Augsburg, Germany Website: mazda-classic-frey.de 4. Augsburg Botanical Gardens The Augsburg Botanical Garden (Botanischer Garten Augsburg) is a peaceful and serene place to spend a few hours. It's especially nice to visit the Japanese garden section, and it's a great spot for taking pictures. While it may not be worth driving for hours to see, it's a great place to go if you're in the area and looking for a place to meditate, have a picnic, or just enjoy nature. The garden is located off the beaten path and is free from motorised vehicles, making it a peaceful and relaxing place to walk or bike. There's also a beer garden on site, where you can grab a bite to eat and listen to local artists. Overall, it's a beautiful nature area in the city that provides a calm and peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. Location: Dr.-Ziegenspeck-Weg 10, 86161 Augsburg, Germany Website: augsburg.de/freizeit/ausflugsziele/botanischer-garten 5. Augsburg Brewery (Brauhaus Riegele) For beer and food lovers the Brauhaus Riegele, the oldest brewery in Augsburg founded in 1386, should be a must-see on any visit to the city. Unbelievably still owned by the same family for 28 generations, the brewery has won numerous accolades in international competitions such as the European Beer Star and the World Beer Cup. If you enjoy beers that are full of flavor, aroma, and scent, and are unlike any others you've tried elsewhere, then the Brauhaus Riegele is a brewery you should definitely check out. Location: Frölichstraße 26, 86150 Augsburg, Germany Website: riegele.de 6. Augsburg Waterworks Museum How interesting can water be I hear you ask? Well you’ll find it here at the Augsburg Waterworks Museum and if you're at all interested in technology, you'll certainly get your money's worth at this historical tourist site. On show are wonderfully preserved technical equipment from 1879, some that still have some functional parts. You’ll be amazed at just how much of the original equipment is still in place here at the Waterworks - an absolute testament to the quality of the engineering work of yesteryear. Who would've thought a museum on a water management system could be so interesting? Location: Am Eiskanal 49, 86161 Augsburg, Germany Website: wassersystem-augsburg.de 7. Augsburg Cathedral Even if religion is not one of your interests, this Augsburg Cathedral (Augsburger Dom) is a special place to visit. This Romanesque-style cathedral was built in the 11th century and is home to a number of important artworks and historical artifacts. The architecture is stunning and is not immediately apparent from the outside which only adds to the ambience of the building. The crypts are also interesting, and it seems like every century and era has left its mark on the building. Don’t miss the 11th-12th Century stained glass windows. There are 5 and each one depicts a prophet. Location: Frauentorstraße 1, 86152 Augsburg, Germany Website: bistum-augsburg.de 8. Augsburg Zoo While it may not be as well-known as the zoos in Munich and Nuremberg, this zoo in southern Germany is definitely on par with the best in the region. The highlight has to be the wonderful Bird House, but there are plenty of other excellent exhibits as well, such as the mixed enclosure for Hamadryas Baboons and the Forest Buffalo enclosure. There is a new Elephant house and the compact size of the ZOO means you don’t have to spend all day here. Excellently laid out kids love visiting the Augsburg Zoo. For parents don’t forget to stop and enjoy a free sample of your choice of wine mid-way through the zoo visit! Location: Brehmpl. 1, 86161 Augsburg, Germany Website: zoo-augsburg.de 9. The Lech Canals Walk The Lech Canals that run through the city are a fascinating and wonderfully Instagrammable part of the city that not enough visitors to Augsburg take advantage of. There are actually 29 channels of the Lech river that flow through the city of Augsburg, covering a total distance of almost 77 kilometers. Not quite Venice, Amsterdam or Birmingham, but the Augsburg Canals are fascinating nonetheless and the lech canal water frontages are lined with houses, watermills, shops and cafes. Location: Throughout the city Website: wassersystem-augsburg.de/en/objects/lech-canals 10. Augsburg Art Museum There are a few different art museums in Augsburg, all worth a visit but our favourite is the Maximilian Museum which is home to a number of important artworks from the Middle Ages to the present day. The is a must-see destination for art lovers visiting Augsburg as not only does it house an impressive collection of decorative arts, including paintings, sculptures, crafts, and historical artifacts, but the museum building itself is both an architectural and historical landmark. Visitors are sure to be captivated by the museum's glass-ceiling courtyard and beautiful architecture. Overall, the Maximilian Museum is an unforgettable experience that combines art, history, and beauty. Location: Fuggerpl. 1, 86150 Augsburg, Germany Website: augsburg.de/kultur/museen-galerien/maximilianmuseum 11. Augsburg Puppet Theater The Augsburg Puppet Theater (Augsburger Puppentheatermuseum) is home to a number of displays and puppet shows and performances for both children and adults. The theater itself is a magical place to visit, whether you're a kid or an adult. It's a cultural icon of the city and surprises audiences with new puppet programs each season throughout the year. The art of puppetry has largely disappeared in modern Europe, making this theater a unique preserve of centuries-old fairy tale traditions. If you're in Augsburg, this is a must-see destination that will bring joy to you and your kids and leave you with a wealth of emotions. Go on, support this special Augsburg theater and experience the magic for yourself. Location: Spitalgasse 15, 86150 Augsburg, Germany Website: augsburger-puppenkiste.de 12. Perlach Tower The Perlach Tower (Perlachturm) is a historic bell tower building in front of the church of St. Peter am Perlach right on the main town square and is definitely worth a visit. The climb up the circular staircase to the top presents a short revitalising workout, but the views of the city from the bell tower at the top are excellent. You will need to pay the "ticket taker" at the top who charges a small fee, but it's worth it for the experience. We highly recommend checking out the Perlach Tower for its unique history and stunning views as the best place to get a true orientation of the city. NOTE: This attraction was closed for renovation the last time we visited Augsburg Location: Rathausplatz, 86159 Augsburg, Germany Website: augsburg-tourismus.de/de/sehenswuerdigkeiten/augsburg-innenstadt 13. Rathausplatz The Rathausplatz, or City Hall Square, is a picturesque and grandiose plaza in the center of Augsburg and generally the starting point of any visitor to the city. The square is surrounded by majestic, ornate buildings with baroque and renaissance influences, featuring some classical facades of gilded marble and grand columns. The square is home to a number of fountains, gardens, and walkways, making it a popular destination for promenades and relaxation. The square is also home to a number of statues, sculptures, and other decorative elements, adding to its aesthetic appeal. Location: Rathausplatz, 86159 Augsburg, Germany Website: augsburg-tourismus.de/en/welcome

Where to Stay in Augsburg
Like all cities, there is PLENTY of accommodation options to choose from and Augsburg is no different with a plethora of hotels to suit all budgets as well as hostels, pensions, air bnb’s, and more. Below are three hotel options in Augsburg covering all pricing options that are recommended. Budget: IBIS Budget Augsburg City. This is a budget-friendly “sustainable” hotel located about 800 meters to the west of Augsburg Old Town but is well within walking distance of the city's main attractions. Cheap and cheerful. Mid-range: ANA Living Augsburg City Center by Arthotel ANA is a mid-range hotel located in the heart of the old town and offers comfortable accommodations and a central location. We love that the Arthotel Ana Living offers free bikes on which to cruise about the city. Exclusive: The Hilton Augsburg is a luxurious hotel located in the heart of the city, offering upscale accommodations, a spa and wellness center, and a variety of dining options. Please note that these are just a few examples and there may be other hotels in Augsburg that fit these categories. It's always a good idea to do your own research and compare prices and amenities to find the best option for your needs and budget.
Where to Eat in Augsburg
There are many superb places to eat in Augsburg with a wide variety of cuisines and dining experiences on offer. Dining is obviously such a personal experience that we find it always difficult to make recommendations that suit everyone. Nevertheless here are a few suggestions that we've personally tried ourselves: - Gaststätte Bayerischer Löwe: This traditional Bavarian restaurant serves hearty German dishes, including roast pork, sausages, and dumplings. A true gem of a spot and with mature chestnut trees providing shade, the Biergarten had a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Delicious cold beers, plentiful tasty food, and excellent service. It's a hidden little oasis that's not to be missed. - Trattoria Pizzeria Crudo: This Italian restaurant serves classic dishes, such as pasta, pizza, and grilled meats, and also has a great little beer garden. Large portions and great service is what you’ll find here as well as Paulaner beer on tap. - Shushu Falafel: This vegetarian and vegan-based restaurant serves plant-based middle eastern dishes and is highly regarded. Fresh and fabulous you are well advised to make a reservation here as this is a very small eatery. - Nikos Tavernaki: We love greek almost as much as Bavarian Cuisine and at Nikos place, we’re never disappointed. It’s like going back in time here as there is no real menu, no card payments, and no obvious ordering system. But you’ll always get a great meal, guaranteed .. Meze starter seems to be the only choice but the following are some real traditional Greek meals. Greek drinks too and overall, very reasonable pricing here at Nikos Tavernaki. - Ratskeller Augsburg: As it's a little more touristy here you might expect a lesser service or perhaps a quality deficiency from time to time. But that's never been our experience here, having visited a few times. The Bavarian food and drink is of high quality and is reasonably priced and the ambiance of the underground cellar with its vaulted ceilings definitely makes for a fun dining experience. We advise you to make a dining reservation here as this is a popular place. These are just a few examples, and there are many other great restaurants in Augsburg to choose from and these are our own experiences. You can form your own opinions of course and read reviews and ask locals for recommendations to find the best places to eat here in Augsburg. Read the full article

Magic of Bavarian, Austrian, and Swiss Christmas Markets
Bavarian Christmas Markets are among the most famous in Germany and are celebrated for their rustic charm and deep-rooted traditions. Bavaria, with its picturesque towns and snow-covered landscapes, provides the perfect backdrop for a Christmas market. One of the most well-known is the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt, which dates back to the 16th century. Here, visitors can wander through rows of wooden stalls adorned with festive decorations, selling everything from handmade ornaments to delicious Lebkuchen (gingerbread). The scent of roasted nuts and mulled wine fills the air, and the sound of carolers adds to the magical atmosphere. Other notable Bavarian markets include those in Munich, with its stunning Marienplatz setting, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a medieval town that feels like stepping into a fairy tale.

The market is illuminated with thousands of lights, and the scent of baked goods and warm drinks beckons visitors to explore the various stalls. Beyond Vienna, the Salzburg Christmas market offers a more intimate experience, set against the backdrop of the Hohensalzburg Fortress and the baroque architecture of the city. Here, you can enjoy traditional Austrian treats like Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) and punch while browsing for unique gifts. Christmas Family Vacation in Europe: 5 Traditions Your Family Will Adore
It's that time of the year again: twinkling lights, steaming mugs of hot cocoa, and the sweet sound of carols in the air. But have you ever thought of adding a touch of European magic to your festive season?
Having a Christmas family vacation in Europe is a whole new world of wonder, with traditions that are both delightful and enchanting. Dive into a winter wonderland of European Christmas charm as we guide you through five heartwarming traditions your family will absolutely love. Let’s take a look, shall we?
1. The Magic of Germany's Christmas Markets
There's an unparalleled charm to Europe during Christmas, and Germany sits at the very heart of this enchantment. The German Christmas markets, known as Weihnachtsmärkte, are not just markets; they're a sensory experience.
The gentle hum of holiday chatter, the smell of roasting chestnuts, the feel of handcrafted wooden ornaments… It all transports you to a world that feels like it's been lifted from a storybook.
The most enchanting of these markets is perhaps the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt. Here, a young girl dressed as the "Christkind" or Christ Child, inaugurates the festivities with a prologue, heralding the beginning of the season.
As you stroll with your family, be sure to try the famous Nuremberg Lebkuchen: a gingerbread treat that has warmed the hearts of many for centuries. No Christmas family vacation in Germany with Dreams Wishes Travel would be complete without sipping on some Glühwein, the warm spiced wine that seems to capture the essence of Christmas in a cup.
2. Iceland’s Thirteen Yule Lads
Iceland, with its captivating landscapes and unique traditions, promises a Christmas family vacation that feels almost otherworldly. Among the Northern Lights and geysers, the tale of the Yule Lads comes alive.
Far from the singular Santa Claus tradition many are used to, Iceland introduces us to thirteen cheeky brothers, each with their own quirks. From the 'Door Slammer' who loves to make noise to the 'Sausage Swiper' who can't resist pinching sausages, every night is a delightful guessing game.
What's more, Icelandic children place their best shoes by the window, hoping for gifts from these merry mischief-makers. Good children wake up to find treats, while those who’ve been a tad naughty might just discover a potato instead.
It’s a blend of anticipation and humor that'll keep the whole family entertained. And if you're in Iceland during this season, joining in this tradition will give your kids some stories they'll be eager to share back home.
3. The Enchanting ‘Feast of the Seven Fishes’ in Italy
Italy, the land of romance and culinary wonders, takes the Christmas family vacation experience up several notches with La Vigilia. This Feast of the Seven Fishes is an age-old tradition observed on Christmas Eve, celebrating the wait for the midnight birth of Jesus. But in true Italian style, it's as much about family as it is about food.
Across the country, families reunite, and kitchens buzz with activity. Grandmas knead dough, uncles share fishing tales, and children's laughter echoes, creating a festive symphony. The menu, though primarily seafood, varies from region to region.
In coastal towns, you might find dishes made with the freshest catch of the day, like linguine with clam sauce. Inland, salted cod or eel might make an appearance. It's not just a meal; it's a bonding experience, a time of sharing stories and traditions.
When in Italy for a Christmas family vacation, joining a local family or attending a community feast can be an unforgettable way to truly experience the heart of Italian Christmas.
4. Portugal’s ‘Consoada’ Christmas Feast
If you've ever dreamed of celebrating Christmas on the balmy Iberian Peninsula, a Christmas family vacation in Portugal is just what you need.
Here, the heart of the festive season is a family gathering known as ‘Consoada’. Traditionally held on Christmas Eve, families come together to await the midnight Mass, "Missa do Galo" (Rooster's Mass). But before heading to the church, there’s the matter of the grand feast.
Central to this meal is ‘bacalhau’, the beloved Portuguese codfish, often served with boiled potatoes and cabbage. But the highlight for many, especially those with a sweet tooth, is the array of traditional desserts. From ‘filhós’, sweet fried pastries, to ‘rabanadas’, Portugal’s take on French toast, every bite is a delightful surprise.
Don’t be startled if you find an empty seat at the table. It’s kept in memory of the departed and also in the hope of welcoming unexpected guests. The evening blends warmth, remembrance, and the joy of togetherness, making it a truly special experience.
5. The Magical St. Lucia Day in Sweden
Amid a long, dark Scandinavian winter, Sweden introduces a radiant glimmer of hope and light. St. Lucia Day, celebrated on December 13th, turns the entire country into a realm of flickering candles and melodious songs.
As dawn breaks, the eldest daughter in families across Sweden dons a white robe, a red sash, and a crown of glowing candles. She becomes 'Lucia', bringing warmth and light to the household.
But it’s not just about the visual spectacle. The aroma of freshly baked ‘Lussekatter’, saffron-infused buns, fills the air. Served with hot coffee or ‘glögg’ (mulled wine), it's a treat the entire family looks forward to.
Parades, concerts, and processions flood the streets and churches, with everyone joining in song and celebration. This tradition is a beautiful reminder of the victory of light over darkness, making a Christmas family vacation in Sweden a soul-stirring experience.

What Are the Benefits of Studying in Germany?
Germany is known for its robust economy, extensive culture, breathtaking natural beauty, and thriving engineering and automobile industries. German universities are praised all over the world for their innovative teaching techniques and state-of-the-art equipment.
The excellent fusion of research and professional training found in German education helps students succeed in their future careers. You are either paying nothing at all or the very minimum for all of this. Isn’t choosing Germany a wise decision?
Student visa? students frequently have the question “Why Germany offers free education?” Since education is not a commodity in Germany, any student from any nation may study there for free. The German immigration government wants the most intelligent people to study in their country, eventually, find employment there, and significantly boost the German economy.
This is in addition to their morality. In public colleges, there are often no tuition costs; nevertheless, there is a small registration fee. But in order to be able to study here, you might need to reach a particular level of German language competency. Additionally, for the duration of their study visa’s validity in Germany, students must be ready to manage all travel, lodging, and other expenditures.

Study Visa Application Process in Germany
Finding the best course at a reputable university is the first step in obtaining a study visa for Germany, just as with any other program. International students can choose among 17k programs offered by the German Academic Exchange Service. There are two intakes: the first takes place in January, and the second in September. However, fewer people were admitted in January than in September.
Applying for admission before the deadline for new students is unquestionably desirable. Your school transcripts, GRE or GMAT scores, employment experience (if any), results of the English or German language eligibility exam, LORs, SOP, and other documents are required for this. In order to live and study in Germany, international students are required to register a Blocked Account and deposit around 10,000 euros.
The student will be able to manage their living expenses, such as housing and transportation expenditures, with the help of this deposit. After being accepted into a university, you may then apply for a student visa through German immigration and wait for the decision.
The University of Cologne, RWTH Aachen University, Technical University of Munich, Goethe University Frankfurt, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, etc. are a few of the top German institutions to take into account. To learn more about Germany study visas and how to study there for free, speak with the Achintya Immigration Consultant Specialists.

We are now sitting in our motel in Budapest hiding from pouring rain. Tomorrow we fly out to Singapore via Frankfurt with a five hour stop after a two hour flight followed by a twelve hour flight. In total we will be travelling for over 23 hours, including the initial land travel including customs.
I did fail to mention the Rhine Gorge which we sailed through on day four abouts. This is some of the most beautiful landscape one can ever see with vineyards layered in vertical rows on steep mountain faces with castles aplenty. The towns here are all closely aligned to the river and one can imagine the lifestyle has not changed over the last few centuries.
One particular place we passed was Loreley Rock, where the story goes a mermaid sat on the rock luring boats to their demise. They even have a song about it. My guess would be the captains were drunk and it was simpler to tell the story of the mermaids then admit their navigational skills were lacking. Guess we will never know.
Moving on we finally reached Bamburg a city that again has a church (ABC tour) that is stunning, however the walk up was hard on rough cobbled stones with a guide that was, to be honest, boring. Once down the mountain we saw a city that had retained its character with the focus on the old town hall lying smack in the river. The building and its surrounds were beautiful.
Next on our tour was Nuremberg, an amazing city. Probably the biggest attraction was that of seeing where Hitler somehow mesmerised people to do such destructive atrocities. They have basically restricted the shell of where his major rallies were delivered. The guide was excellent with pictures from the original event allowing you to imagine the experience.
In the tour we also got to go to another palace/fort that was never taken. Great views and the building is so well preserved people still rent accommodation from within. Of course we also saw where the Nuremberg trials took place with our guide once again showing pictures and explaining how it all worked. I must say the walk down the hill was also great with this area owning some of the true dwellings and local bars of the city. The town square also a must see with only three churches within the immediate surrounds.
Passau was our next adventure and not one to rave about. Of course a abbey. A quick stroll really covered it all as we boarded the boat towards Linz. In Linz also not a lot to see so we caught the local train trolley passing by the place where Adolf Hitler grew up. The city does not acknowledge his existence at all. Now with the cruise at various ports you are offered both free and paid additional tours. In Linz a paid tour to Salzburg was on offer with nearly three quarters of the boat signing up. Great for us that did not go. A quiet day just doing nothing.
Finally the “sound of music” lovers returned and we moved on to Melk and Durstein. In Melk those that wanted to were loaned a bike enabling them to ride the twenty kilometres to Dunstein, something we declined. Those that decided not to were taken to the Benedictine Monastry. This tour was well worth the walk with the views from high walls incredible. A walk through the cobbled streets, while hurting, a must.
Passing the riders about fifteen kilometres into our sail a lot of waving was done from the boat, however the riders obviously having enjoyed a lot of wine and drink over last ten days, kept heads down. They arrived nearly four hours after the boat. It must be said that they did not miss much. Durstein has one road in which is the same road out. The road is cobbled with steep stairs with most shops closed. No rush to get back here.

Summary: Army Pilot Erik Lehnsherr is just trying to enjoy his day off when a mostly naked person crashes through the roof of his car. Even more alarming, the strange falling naked person—who goes by Charles Xavier when he's not speaking an ancient dead language—brings tidings of the apparent potential end of the world, and begs Erik to help him put a stop to it.
Well. His mother has been nagging at him to go out and meet new people.
In Sound and Silence – endingthemes
Summary: Erik is assigned to care for the special patient in room 301.
How Not To Meet Your Future Boyfriend – ikeracity

Forgotten – FuryRed
Summary: Charles is having a really bad day. Not only has he woken up in the middle of the afternoon with no idea where he is or how he got there, but when he returns home he’s confronted by a stranger with intense eyes, who insists that he knows Charles rather more intimately than Charles remembers…
Thou Shalt Not Eat Stones – valancysnaith
Summary: Two months after Washington, Raven found Erik in a skeevy motel off the Florida interstate.
“They have Charles, Erik,” she said.
The bedframe shrieked. In the bathroom, the showerhead snapped in half and clattered into the tub.
Demoted – JayPendragon
Summary: Erik Lehnsherr is a detective-specialist with the NYPD Mutant Tactical Unit, ready to help out where his skills are needed. Or he would be, if he and his partner hadn’t been demoted. For the next four months, he is patrolling the Lenox Hill precinct with Azazel – if he doesn’t die of boredom first. One night they are called in to investigate a potential case of domestic violence, yet the tenant assures them he is both alone and unharmed. However, there is something about this Charles Xavier that compels Erik to follow up.
Warning: Sensitive material, domestic abuse and dubious consent
Watch Your Back – swoopswoop
Summary: Bodyguard AU where Erik is overly protective and things aren't as simple as they seem.
If We Met Differently – swoopswoop
Summary: Erik wasn't the only mutant 'taken in' by Shaw, Erik learns this the hard way when a new mutant is dropped into his cell. They manage to escape together, but things aren't all roses after that. Erik has a score to settle and needs to make sure Charles is safe.
The Color of Love (Character Swap Remix) – BadLuckBlueEyes
Summary: Nobody sees in color until they meet their soulmates. When your soulmate dies, your vision returns to black and white. What happens when your soulmate only dies for a few minutes?
Omega Online – miss_aphelion
Summary: Newly imprinted Charles is having trouble dealing with his overly protective alpha—so in desperation he seeks advice in an omega chat room. Emma Frost is more than happy to help, Raven isn't helping at all, and Erik can't stand to be out of touch with Charles for more than five minutes at a time.
Cannot be Contained in Words – wallhaditcoming (uvcatastrophe)
Summary: Crime syndicate head Erik Lehnsherr travels to London on business, where he meets oxford student Charles Xavier. Their liaison spawns into a years long transatlantic affair, kept apart by Erik's work and Charles' studies, which Erik chronicles in photographs. When distance ceases to be an issue after four long years, the overlap between Charles' past and Erik's work create a whole new set of complications.
A Pertinent Reminder – ikeracity, Pangea
Summary: Sometimes it's easy to forget that getting involved in Erik's mob business isn't all fine dining and sex on yachts. There's nothing like taking a couple of bullets to remind Charles of the reality.
Part 3 of the Associates series
A Dangerous Game – ikeracity, pangea
Summary: When a familiar enemy of Erik's returns to the city for some old-fashioned revenge, Charles is sucked deeper into the world of the mob than ever before.
Part 6 of the Associates series
You don’t choose the thug life (except when you do) – Anonymous
Summary: Charles is kidnapped and discovers that Erik, the Alpha he has been dating for the past few months and is head-over-heels for, is not just a wealthy businessman but actually the head of a syndicate.
He is rather unhappy about this discovery and Erik gets an earful for lying to him. Then Charles is kidnapped again and really, he hopes mating Erik won't result in weekly kidnapping because he has a thesis to finish and papers to grade.
Marrying a Mob – Ook
Summary: Charles is a teacher at a very exclusive school. When armed men burst in on the trail of two children, of course he stands up to them and gets hurt. The children are Erik Lehnsherr's children (of course); a "prominent businessman" or, less politely, "mobster".
Erik is grateful to Charles for saving his children's lives at the cost of his kneecap. So very grateful.
Naturally he tries to reward Charles for his actions. Equally naturally, Charles will be having none of that.
Azazel finds the whole thing unspeakably hilarious. Naturally.
Rumor Has It – blueink3
Summary: "Did I hear the doorbell earlier?"
"Yeah, but I'd steer clear if I were you. It seemed a little tense. I don't know what's going on, but there's a kid out there who looks freakily like the prof."
Nearly six months after Cuba, Charles' life is turned upside down for the second time. Though he's slowly learning to adapt to the first, he's not sure he can handle the second. Luckily for him, there are a few people out there more than willing to help.
Forward Momentum – AsYouWish
Summary: Six months after Cuba, Charles and Erik find themselves thrown fifty years into the future, where they meet their older selves, the Avengers, and a world that's very different from their own. Faced with the pieces of their broken relationship, an unparalleled adversary, and dealing with Tony Stark on a daily basis, Charles and Erik do their best to adapt while trying to find a way back home -- and to each other.
Runs in the Family – Anonysquirrel (chibirisuchan)
Summary: Alex knew his own reputation. Hell, he'd started some of his own reputation, because it kept some of the smarter thugs off his back. Everyone knew Alex's reputation. There was no way Hank didn't know his reputation, but he'd brought Alex into a house with some really expensive things and a lot of innocent little kids and his too-friendly, too-harmless dad.
But clearly Hank hadn't told his family anything about Alex, just like he hadn't told Alex anything about his family. At least, not about the brain-breaking parts of his family.
"I didn't know where to start," Hank said, for the dozenth time.
Featuring mpreg!Charles in a Kiss The Cook apron, overprotective!Erik in wet black leather, and baked goods. Lots and lots of baked goods.
Round the Corner Waiting – swoopswoop
Summary: When things go so spectacularly wrong during a relationship, Charles - now a single dad - almost makes a big mistake, only to be stopped by a mysterious man who just might turn his life back around.
Hide Your Fires – swoopswoop
Summary: As the sole heir, Prince Charles, had no problem with the roles and responsibility that would come with ruling a kingdom. Though he was the only one who did not see a problem. After years of being shuttled back and forth between kingdoms, his Regent hoping he would find a match more suitable to being King, he is finally sent to Genosha. Though the path has never been less clear than the one to a foreign kingdom with no ties to his native land.
Shaw’s Captive – swoopswoop
Summary: Magneto killed Shaw, it had to be done for the sake of mutant-kind but what he wasn't expecting to find hidden deep with Shaw's complex was a man held captive, obviously tortured, that somehow made Magneto turn into Erik.
Erik now has a potential human in his citadel as he continues the war with the human's.
Mind’s Eye Blind – Sperare
Summary: As far as Erik is concerned, if you want to scare a person into talking, you have to present him with something more compelling than what he stands to lose...
And there is nothing in the world more compelling than Charles.
Chipped – Rosawyn
Summary: Magneto's fledgling Brotherhood find Charles Xavier in a mutations research lab as an apparently willing subject for an experimental suppression device.
Okay, I Feel Better Now – Harleydoll
Summary: The AU in which Erik is sent to a mental health facility after being convicted for Shaw's murder and pleads insanity, and Charles is his paranoid schizophrenic of a roommate. Powers, Hellfire conspiracies, protective!Erik, and of course the inevitable angst.
Five Nights in Nuremberg – FuryRed
Summary: When Charles escapes from the mutant prison he has been held in for the last two years he knows that he’s going to need help to avoid being recaptured.
What he doesn’t expect is that help will come in the form of a mysterious German man who rescues Charles and takes him to his home; a handsome stranger who, frustratingly, doesn’t speak a single word of English…
Five Bullet Points – Sperare
Summary: It was supposed to be Erik locked away in a prison one hundred stories below the ground.
Charles was never supposed to be there with him.
Notes: Unfinished but an excellent read. Highly recommend it.
Stolen – ishipitsobad
Summary: Erik is a miserable, grumpy, cantankerous bastard, and he has every fucking right to be. He drew the short end of the stick when he got the Underworld as his domain, and there isn't very much fun to be had in judging and governing dead souls who would rather be anywhere else but with Erik in the depths of Hell.
So when he meets Charles, brilliant and lovely Charles who is more popularly known amongst the mortals as Persephone, and feels the promise of something wonderful that could make his eternally doomed existence infinitely more bearable... you can bet all your drachmas Erik's not going to let Charles go any fucking time soon.
My Barbaric Darling – baehj2915
Summary: Erik is revivified caveman. Charles is the anthropologist(?) taking care of him. This is as ridiculous as it sounds. Romcom misunderstandings and prehistoric wooing ensues.
Swimming with Sharks – Not_You
Summary: Erik used to be a shark. Now he's not, and has to figure out how to be a good human father to his twins. Charles is willing to help.
Eucalyptus leaf of my soul - kageillusionz, ourgirlfriday
Summary: Zookeeper Raven at Taronga Zoo keeps having ideas on how to capitalize on interest in the zoo mascots, Koala Charles and Drop Bear Erik (the only drop bear in captivity!), who have captured the hearts and minds of the public. First it was to introduce prospective mates (It’ll generate attention, Hank. People are perverts. They’d love to see koala porn.). This idea was not effective the first through fifth attempts, as Erik and Charles seemed to show at best polite interest in the newcomer before resuming whatever marsupial debate they had going. However, the resulting lesbian koala orgies did indeed generate interest. Then Raven unveiled the Hug-A-Koala program, which was successful, as the public showed great interest in hugging Charles, and Charles seemed to enjoy being hugged.
Then Raven unveiled the Hug-A-Drop Bear program, and Hank, not for the first time, wished he had a flask handy.
Notes: Yes, they’re Koalas, yes they’re adorable, and yes, Erik is super protective even as a Drop Bear.

Tatiana Trouvé at Gagosian 976 Madison Avenue, New York
August 18, 2021
TATIANA TROUVÉ From March to May
September 18–October 30, 2021 976 Madison Avenue, New York __________ When quarantine was announced, newspapers from countries around the world that were being ravaged by the pandemic took on new meaning. I began, each day, to draw on the front page of a newspaper—it was a way of escaping the confinement, and of being connected to the strange atmosphere that was spreading around the globe with the virus. This world tour via headlines and front pages was like a journey in reverse. Suddenly, I could no longer meet the world unless the world came to me, through the newspapers. —Tatiana Trouvé Gagosian is pleased to present From March to May, a never-before-seen body of work by Tatiana Trouvé produced in direct response to the pandemic era. At the beginning of the COVID-19 quarantine in March 2020, Trouvé, isolated in Paris, began a series of daily drawings using inkjet-printed reproductions of various international newspaper front pages as her starting point. As the pandemic marched on, spreading instability and uncertainty throughout the world, Trouvé continued to work ever more methodically in graphite, ink, and linseed oil. Trouvé’s project is linked to certain modernist traditions. Connecting daily realities to poetry and the Symbolist movement, Pablo Picasso utilized scraps of Le Figaro in Cubist drawings and collages that used aleatory haphazardness to literally dematerialize neatly formatted columns of type into a chaotic jumble. In Hannah Höch’s provocative collages, newspaper cut-ups represent a feminist challenge to and reclamation of society’s dominant images and narrative.
From March to May extends these themes and connects them to Trouvé’s own temporality, while also underscoring the role that technological reproduction and human intervention play in shaping aesthetic experience. In another departure from her modernist forebears, Trouvé’s drawings are fundamentally rooted in today’s digital age; they acknowledge the instant and universal connection that online newspaper editions provided during the pandemic. As print issues became increasingly difficult to obtain in a world halted by quarantine, it was the ubiquity of digital media that allowed the news to circulate into people’s homes and lives despite the constrictive realities of isolation, thus taking on an even more precious and profound status. Trouvé uses the newspaper like a serialized canvas, layering lines and figurative drawings over each formatted and printed front page from around the world. Beneath drawn and painted marks, ominous headlines swirl in and out of legibility, and familiar photographs mix surreally with Trouvé’s visions. Her drawings are both guided and interrupted by the arbitrary form of the printed page, inflecting the pragmatic character of newsprint with a dreamlike quality. In this suite of fifty-six works on paper, exterior and interior worlds fuse into one. Like Trouvé’s large-scale installations and sculptures, From March to May tests the exchange between memory and matter, combining abstract and quotidian elements. Sometimes immersive, sometimes setting the viewer at a distance, Trouvé’s art creates both real and imagined spaces that unsettle and distort standardized structures and perceptions of time. To mark the New York exhibition, Gagosian will produce a special edition of From March to May in the form of a newspaper, underscoring the medium’s persistent presence as a vehicle for engagement with the outside world at large.
