In another life.
Imagine your reincarnated husband!
Your reincarnated husband! Once died protecting you and the empire of sudden attacks was announced on your marriage day.
Your reincarnated husband! Died in your hands, blood is everywhere, especially around you. In devastated you kill yourself by slicing your neck, as you can't live without the person who loved you the most...
Silence filled the room, and then the next was nothing... Nothing but the silence of your sudden death with your only person you cherish the most. Two of you lay in the ground, pools of blood are everywhere around you two. A tragic life of both two lovely people who found themselves by fate itself.
The new emperor and empress had sudden news of dying because of a sudden attack that had happened.
...
.....
......
That was the tale of your childhood. The story tale you held dearly in your heart when you were a little child.
It was a pity, that the tale kinda reminds you of the empress who was once a duchess.
It was about a story between a duchess and a crown prince.
It was said that the duchess was mistreated as an outcast and a replacement real daughter of Duke, a 'lady duchess' as what people called the daughter of the Duke. The whole family neglected the duchess because she was just nothing but a replacement of the lady duchess who once went missing and never came back. The Duke tried to find his daughter, the one he cherished before she was gone. But suddenly stumble across the girl who look-alike her daughter, but the girl has dark red hair, her daughter has red hair and almost like peach-pink hair. The girl almost looked like the lady duchess herself, except for the hair color and the eyes. In exchanging words towards her, he adopted her not only for her to feel loved but for the replacement of his once cherished lovely daughter.
The brothers of the lovely lady duchess, were frustrated with the news of the fake lady duchess who was their "new sister".
Both of the father and her "brothers" never cared for her, never did, even if she acted a brat or spoiled one. They never once showed affection or worried towards her as they neglect her once she's in their presence.
The servants don't really care about her either. They make her starve, left out, and never serves her like a right duchess.
That was until she sneaked out of the duke household and somehow met her destiny..
The crown prince of the empire.
Some people just describe what the crown prince is, some will say, he isn't the favorite one as the people, especially noble ones, saw that the prince was also an outcast, but people assumed that the Emperor loved his half-sister and didn't have any time for the crown prince.
The crown prince's half-sister or his step-sister, the one destined to die at age 18 was once the Emperor's plan but it seems it backfired when he saw what she really is, just like her mother, his once a lover. The Emperor's true lover (the Emperor is too dumb and blind as fuck that he didn't even know that his lover who is concubine, just used him for the power and frame.).
The one that the emperor loved so much that he kept the kid around, pretty much of the dissatisfied and disagreement of the crown prince's statement.
The Emperor was known to be a cold and tyrant ruler.
A brutal one when it comes to his enemies.
'The crown prince is nothing but the heir of the throne', the Emperor said to his personal knight.
'Nothing but an heir' is what the crown prince thought. He knows, he knows yet can't accept it. He can't win his father's love and affection when it comes to his half-sister. So he stayed quiet and waited for the time to strike down and kill its enemy.
The Emperor loved the half-sister, but when it comes to him, HIS supposed to be a biological child.
The Emperor chose to neglect him and didn't really care about him after the assassination happened that resulted in the Emperor neglecting him. For all the Emperor's care, the heir can die, and the Emperor wouldn't help him or care for him.
After all, there's still one child to own the throne after all.
The crown prince is tired.
Tired of all of this.
If he can just confess everything to him then it would not be this mess..
Especially what happened in the past.
If the Emperor is not that stupid to fall in love with a plastic face of a lotus bitch then this should not be happening at all.
As the crown prince stands at the balcony, staring at the sky, moonlight shines brightly across his face. As he collected his memories then, he jumped off the balcony from the Palace he currently stayed with about 3 floors, he thankfully landed safely on the plant bushes.
The crown prince ran away, ended up lost somewhere, then he sat on the ground and silent crying filled the place as he felt worthless all of the time. But then he heard the noises towards him and when he looked up, he met the "fake duchess" which people talked about.
The fake lady looked at the child (the crown prince is older than the fake duchess btw) and asked. "Um.. Are you okay, why are you crying?"
Then the crown prince quickly wiped his tears and answered, "Y-yeah.. I'm okay..." and then, "by the chance, are you perhaps the new daughter of the duke?" the crown prince asked, the duchess froze in place and then answered in a low voice, "I.. I wouldn't call myself like that..." the duchess said.
The crown prince quickly understood and questioned a different one, like why are you here, and are you somehow lost too? And a bunch of talks right here and then. They started to get comfortable with each other and learn things from each other too, if they have enough time to meet each other that is. They would go to the same place where they first met.
But of course, we can't hide things so easily right?
When the crown prince reached the age of 18, his half-sister 14, there was an accident. Well the crown prince wouldn't call it a "accident".
Day by day the crown prince filled with envy and jealousy and frustration with his half-sister's actions and his father's words. That's when his sister hits her first celebration, the day where people will know about her and might be the day he will be replaced. So he instead had a plan to end his so-called family and end his suffering.
For many years of being miserable and being a mistake and just being neglected by your only biological parent who just chose some insect that isn't even fully blood related.
He chose to kill his father, his half-sister and everyone who served his father and sister.
Even for all the servants who choose to work here, it will be their last day.
They will be killed by his hands and his only hands.
Their end will be in his hands. And no one else.
When the news came of the Emperor's and the second Princess deaths and a massacre happened in the Palace!
The only survivor was the heir of the throne!
He explained in pain and traumatic expression as he tried to explain to the people of the empire that there were some bunch of the people who happened to be assassins and tried to assassinate his family, himself and the people who worked there, and not leave any witnesses.
In desperation, people believe his innocent act.
How funny..
Really people are easy to be fooled with. When the people of the empire believed his words, he smirked a little, happy about what had happened.
This is only the beginning of the terror of the people of the so-called empire.
Especially for the people who hurt his darling duchess..
History repeats itself..
Pt. 2 of In another life + Your reincarnated husband! Headcanon (at the start)
-------
That was the story from your childhood, you remembered the name...
It was "The fake duchess met the crown prince!"
At first, you thought back then it was a story but it wasn't, the story was called a "novel" you just found out back then, not too long ago.
It was published as a novel book that people read either on the Internet if they don't have the money to buy or the novel book itself.
You once thought that the duchess's past was like you, mistreated by others and neglected by your parents.
But that's okay, since you are already out of that hell hole anyway. That's what it matters..
Anyways, back to the topic, author.
...
Actually the one you talked about was, about the past only, so it means there are still events that are present in time when the duchess and crown prince were teenagers.
Most of the novel was about the duchess' view and then meeting the crown prince and then the next one, will be on the crown prince view. Mostly their childhood memories are shown there, through teenagers and adults where they become official rulers.
(not long enough because the sudden attacks strike in the empire, and it brings tragedy on the day where they're official news of being new rulers.)
The ending of the novel is mostly the end of the fate of two people.
The duchess and the crown prince.
But why does it feel like deja vu?
Like when the fake lady duchess met the crown prince was like...
It felt like you're the one who feels the feelings of the duchess...
But that doesn't matter anymore, probably another feeling of being single or you just felt nostalgic right now.
'Feels like a past life feeling?'
But, that matter should be dealt with later on.
Now, where were you?
Oh right, you just finished the work, great job!
Although it's a waste of time to do all these things..
You, as a reader, lived in an apartment.
You have to move out because your parents said 'you know it's time to move out? You have to learn to be independent, we can't always take care of someone like you.' they said.
Then you take that in your hands, by being an employee, to support your well-being and bills of the apartment you stayed with.
"*Sigh* it's late at night.. I think I have to do this tomorrow morning..." you sighed, feeling tired of the work you have done.
You clean up your table and then, when outside the company you worked with.
When you were walking through the crowded street, blending yourself in there, you suddenly thought of the sequel that the same novel author wrote of "The fake duchess met the crown prince." the sequel called, "We meet by the fate itself once again" where both of the duchess and the crown prince meet, but in the modern world though it's only a short sequel continues the novel story of "The fake duchess met the crown prince".
Where of course both of them knew each other's identity as the duchess and crown prince in their past life.
Because of a simple memory that brought them together once again, but this time is surely a happy ending.
When you were walking down the street, you suddenly bump into someone.
"Ack—!" you hissed at the pain of being bumped into someone, but little did you know, you were about to fall but someone suddenly caught you by holding your waist to support you so that you don't fall down to the ground.
When you open your eyes, your eyes straight look at the person who bumped you and saved you at the same time.
When you look at the person, he looks at you too. But sudden electricity rings from both of your minds.
Then you realize you're still being held.
You blush from the embarrassment and stupidity of not realizing it soon enough.
"Uh.. I'm sorry..." You said, taking small steps and making a space between you two. You look at the guy, the guy looks.. Puzzled? It felt like his thinking before he suddenly realized what's going on.
"Oh.. No, no, it's fine, after all it's probably an accident" he said, giving you an assured smile, you look and then look away because of embarrassment and feeling of awkwardness between you two.
And then he said this,
"If you don't mind me asking.. Have we met before? You looked so familiar yet so unfamiliar..."
You heard him, but then your mind suddenly brings the Flashback when you two felt an electricity together when you and him looked into each other's eyes.
The Flashback was nothing but a glimpse of a man holding a woman in his arms..
The appearance of the man was similar to the guy you accidentally met by bumping.
Even the smile is the same!
Because the man in the Flashback has the same smile!
You didn't reply, the guy looked worried but didn't say anything, he was about to go but you held his arm preventing him from going.
"I do have a memory of a man that looks like you, well glimpse of it.." you said, his wide eyes stare at you.
"You are... No, It can't be... There's no way.." the guy mumbled, the feeling is so familiar to him, it feels like the girl he met was the woman in his dreams and might as well include nightmares.
You don't even process the words you say, it's just like you were being controlled to say that.
"But I am not sure if we have met before." you said after, the guy calmed down, he looked at you, "It's fine, you don't have to... I'm sure in the near future or maybe now, you will be able to regain the memories like i did years ago.." he said to you, smiling gently, holding your hand, it's as if he knew you..
But you are sure that he knows about you.
Well your 'old' you of course, it's funny to know that you were reincarnated after your sudden death.
Without knowing he is also here..
And without knowing you are also a character that doesn't even exist.
Well, apparently he is also the same thing as you.
You smile as if all the memories that are from your old life are regained within you, you smile at him knowing that you two will be at peace now.
"Where the hell have you been in the past years..?" you asked, hugging him, your once-a-husband that died in your arms, came back alive this time.
"haha, I'm sorry if I'm late, my darling wife.." he said accepting your hugs, he knows your suffering, after all you two seek comfort together.
"Humph whatever, what's the matter is that you're here once again"
"I'm also happy for you to remember me and our past life though you regained it faster than me.." He pouted looking at you. "But, I'm sure you, no—we will have happiness this time."
He said as he looked at you with a long-lost same loving eyes again, you smile,
"Yes, we will."
----
Now, the two lovers at last can rest assured.
After all, fate is the one who brought the two destined lovers.
The old true lovers who died because of its tragedy are now living their best lives in the world.
But, history may repeat itself once again.
EXPLANATION PART!
(Pt.1) In another life & History repeats itself, explanation about the past and how the story goes through.
The main male Protagonists : The HUSBAND
*The heir & the crown prince.
*Inheriting the throne after he was massacred and lying to the public saying, 'there's a assassination happening inside the Palace'.
*Born with royal blood and is a biological child and has a step-sister.
*The Emperor, his father, has a one-sided love for his mother, the previous Empress; she died while protecting him, their son from the assassination. And then the Emperor falls in love with the viscountess lady  from the viscount family (before the assassination). So the viscountess lady becomes a concubine and soon enough has a child, who is his step-sister. The viscountess desperately wants a child so she could be the empress (bc she also wants to take down the previous Empress, who is still alive at that time. By making the Emperor divorce the Empress and her being the new empress. But that didn't work at all, as the biological child heard her plans and poisoned her after her pregnancy happened, and after the assassination.)
*The assassination happened when the viscountess lady can't take her anger off and send someone (plus the back ups cuz the Empress is not someone to underestimate with, as what people thought of her).
*And then, the sudden suicide death of the concubine which is the viscountess lady, was reached to the public, was killed by the poison after the assassination and the pregnancy happened. (it wasn't a suicide death)
(so what happened was:
-> The Emperor's one-sided love towards the Empress and falling in love with the viscountess lady.
-> The viscountess lady becomes the concubine and she clearly does not want that position but alas, it's the first step of her wanting to be an empress.
-> Has the time being passed by, the viscountess lady seduces the Emperor into making out and making him favor her more than his actual wife.
->The Empress was left out to take care of the child along with her loyal servants and soon, the first child born with royal blood was born at the age of five.
-> And then the assassination happens, as u can see above, the viscountess lady has enough and finally sends some assassins to kill her but she saw, through her living in the Palace, it wasn't easy to kill the Empress.
-> Few months after the assassination was ended and also the Empress's death. The biological child was seen walking through the hall, about to go to the room where the emperor stayed. He suddenly heard the viscountess lady, the Emperor's concubine, saying about the incident happened few months ago, and said it was her plan to become the Emperor's new wife and empress; her saying that her child should be the crown princess not him, as his looks reminded her of his mother. The viscountess lady was currently pregnant at that time, so he waited for the child to be born and after the pregnancy, a few weeks passed by, the death of the viscountess lady was spread around the empire.
-> Few days before the viscountess lady will give birth to the half-blood royal child which is his step-sister. The child of the Emperor and the pervious Empress plans to poison the viscountess lady's drinks and foods; order the servants to put poison on each foods or drinks she will get her hands on after she will gave birth to a so-called royal child and threatening them that if they told the viscountess lady or the Emperor that it was him who did it, not only he will fired them but also kill them along with their families, he isn't a heir or a Crown Prince for nothing. (this is the one of reason why people called him a brutal and cruel Prince for not being a favored one, they say, (ง'̀-'́)ง)
-> The servants of the pervious Empress couldn't do anything but to go along with the plan of the crown prince, 9 months had been passed after pregnancy happened, and this was the time where the Prince made his move, that is by ordering the servants to put a poison on everything that will slowly kill the concubine.
(who actually should become a empress the day after the Empress died but the Emperor was upset by what happen so the plan of the concubine was on hold; the time where the neglected and got blamed is also happened, in short the Emperor's hatred towards his own son and blamed & neglecting to his own son started at this time also I feel like this bitch is regret something..ಠ_ಠ)
-> And another death happened, words was spreading around the empire, some people said, the concubine dies because of someone poisoning her but no body was suspected at that time, then some of them said she dies giving birth, even tho she already done with the pregnancy but the Emperor didn't reveal it as much as the concubine disliked and denied the idea.
-> Though nobody knows who's real or not. The Emperor doesn't suspect any other than the poison. Though he doesn't know who really did it..
-> Now, the present is slowly approaching, the royal half-blood child who's related to the Emperor and his biological child, was now at age of 6 and is lost somewhere near the Emperor's palace and she wasn't aware of it, she was just looking around, trying to go back to the Palace where her mother once lived and died.
And the rest is history itself, (jk) the rest of it is shown in the novel itself. The thing is that in the novel, they only mentioned the mothers of the two siblings and mostly the one who cares abt them is the Emperor, (but since he's a bastard one, a blind fucking stupid, delusional one) he isn't really a good father.
And it isn't really explained, it's complicated like the writer here for example. This shit work draft should be, at least be done if they're just a motivated person but guess what? In real life stuff has been a shitty work only wasted time for them.
(literally here just want this to be done honestly (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ))
Also the side note/additional information: The Emperor & the Empress only has a political marriage, they aren't really loved each other since the empress is only used to pregnant a heir
(in short, the Emperor forced his way to the Empress without her consent).
And her family was a kingdom, 'was' the family of her, send her to the empire cuz in her kingdom, if a woman, a female child who got birth in a kingdom-bloodline is considered bad luck to the kingdom. So men there are considered as someone who will bring the kingdom a better one, in other words, they're considered as a superior especially if they have a family, a man, the father should be the one to follow and obey. While the female ones are y'know being treated as a slave or someone who is used to impregnate a male child, not female.
So her family sends her to the empire and marry the current emperor, which is the Emperor (honestly it's the bastard  for me). The Emperor on the other hand is a handsome but bastard shit (but no one knows, bc he's a two face one, and the heir got his two-face phase shit. TAT..).
He isn't really in love with the Empress, but fell hard on the fucking lotus bitch (╬≖_≖) and yeah, i hope you knew how the story goes now cuz really this is the only thing this writer can give you.
Manhwa inspiration:
 Who made me a princess
And a little inspired by 'The remarried empress'?
(really it's just that the viscountess lady has the same personality as rashta so not sure yet. Let's just say, its the personality not the social life bc the viscountess lady is from countess family so please don't attack me---)
Author's notes: Parentheses are the writer's way of communicating in a safe way, i think?
viscountess lady = The concubine
Empress = The once a princess
Emperor = The cruel & tyrant ruler with the attitude of an asshole.
Biological child = The crown prince & The heir of the throne
Step-sister of the biological child = second in line of the throne, and the viscountess lady's child (& the Emperor)
(Pt. 2) In another life & History repeat itself, explanation about the past and how the story goes through.
The Female Protagonist: The WIFE
*Known as the 'fake duchess' or 'fake lady duchess'
*Got adopted by the Duke to replace his once a lovely daughter.
*Ever since child, her mother died when giving birth to her. Leaving her with herself to take care of.
*Once she got adopted by the duke, she thought she would have a feeling of being loved. But that hope was crushed when she knew that she can't replace their heart that is full of void, losing their beloved real daughter. Because she's just an 'illegitimate child'. And a replacement of the position of a once 'Duchess'
*She first got hatred by her brothers, and her 'father' neglected her, won't even glance at her and help her when she's in desperate danger of society.
*Because of her 'brat-acts' or in other words, spoiled brat-acts, her reputation was ruined. Just because she spilled tea and hit a teen noble lady in a tea party and since then her reputation kept ruined by the time wherever she went, people kept looking at her disgust and hatred looks and always spreading a fake rumor of her.
(FUN FACT: THE WIFE'S BACK STORY IS ALREADY ON STORY OF 'IN ANOTHER LIFE' PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING IS THE WIFE'S STORY OR THE 'EMPRESS')
*She used to admire her step-brothers.. But now she hates them. She hated them because when she needed them, they didn't help her. Instead they both glared at her in a cold way.
*Hell, even the servants there. Even if they know they shouldn't disrespect the one they served but yet they go against it.. She hated it.. She hates it, the fact that she has the power yet she doesn't have the authority to at least be herself. She wanted to shout out, but she knew nobody would hear her shouts.
*Days, weeks, and months went by.. Her realization came to her, she now realizes that nobody really is willing to give her the love that she once wished to have.
*By then, she knew she was nothing but a fool to everyone's view..
*Until she met the crown prince. The situation when she met the crown prince was okay, but not really what she expected, guess the rumors about him were wrong. She and the crown prince always hang out at the same place they first met, and would also talk through writing letters.
*Soon enough of time, the duchess grows with determination, clearing and gaining her reputation again, the problems that involve her, and she, working properly like a duchess she is. Through her hard work, it paid off, having trusted workers, along with a good reputation that speaks nothing but the truth.
(I truly don't want to detail everything but let's say, your family felt the guilt since the wife isn't what she was before especially (her) father of the Duke. Her and her step-brothers somehow get along but in reality, she was just faking the -'get along'- since she needs the support through her family members first. The Duke's family never know that their daughter or sister has already met the crown prince and even build a strong relationship (its friendship, everyone TAT) but the first brother is suspicious towards it but denies the feeling. AND after the massacre that happened in the Palace, did the wife know? Well... Of course she knows, as I said in Pt. 2 the two of them seek comfort and information from each other. BUT she didn't knew about killing spare that the crown prince made (which is killing everyone who despite and loves the duchess))
(NOW LET'S TALK ABT THE MAIN TOPIC OF THE 'IN ANOTHER LIFE & HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF'. THE STORY IS ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE TWO NOBLES. THE ONCE A CROWN PRINCE AND A ONCE A DUCHESS. IN PART 1, IT TALKS ABOUT THE PAST OF THE TWO NOBLES AND IN THE START IS WHERE THE END OF THE 'STORY' OF THE TWO NOBLES. IN READER-INSERT, IT'S MOSTLY YOUR POV TALKING ABOUT THE 'STORY' ITSELF. AND MOVING FORWARD TO THE PART 2 IS WHERE YOU FOUND A MEMORIES SOON TO KNOW ABOUT THE 'PAST LIFE' MOSTLY KNOWING WHAT YOU ARE IS.
BUT ONE THING IS DIFFERENT, WHAT IS IT? ITS BOTH OF TRANSMIGRATION AND REINCARNATION. BUT IN TRANSMIGRATION IT'S QUITE DIFFERENT FROM WHAT I WAS PLANNING FOR THE STORY PLOT SINCE I PREFER NOT TO GO IN DETAILS TOO MUCH BUT IT'S ALSO MY FAULT NOT TOO T-T
ANYWAY, HERE'S THE EXPLANATION ABOUT THE WIFE AND THE READER ITSELF,
-> BOTH THE WIFE AND THE READER HAS THE SAME SOUL, SO BOTH OF THEM CAN CHANGE EACH OTHER'S BODIES.
-> SO LIKE, IF THE WIFE LOST CONSCIOUS, SO DOES THE READER, THEN THE WIFE & READER SWITCH SOUL, LIKE THE READER'S SOUL WILL GO TO THE BODY OF THE WIFE AND WHEN THE WIFE'S BODY GAINED THE CONSCIOUSNESS, THE READER IS MOSTLY THE ONE WHO WILL CONTROL THE WIFE'S BODY. IT'S THE SAME WAY AS THE WIFE'S SITUATION TOO. AND BY REMEMBERING THINGS LIKE HOW THEY LIVED IN THEIR OWN, THEY WILL SLOWLY GAIN THE MEMORIES BY EITHER SLEEPING OR A SUDDEN HEADACHE.
NOW I KNOW YOU WILL BE HAVING A BUNCH OF QUESTIONS BUT! IN THE FIRST PART OF THE STORY, IT EXPLAINS THAT THE WIFE'S BODY DIES BC OF SUICIDE (NOT ACTUALLY BUT SHE KILLED HERSELF SO YEAH) SO IS THE READER STILL CONTINUES TO GO INSIDE THE WIFE'S BODY? THE ANSWER IS BASICALLY A NO. WHY? BC THE WIFE'S BODY IS DEAD. MEANS IT WILL NOT CONTINUE TO BE LIVED ESPECIALLY SINCE THE TWO SOULS ARE SOMEHOW CONNECTED, THERE'S A POSSIBILITY THAT THERE WILL BE ONE SOUL GONE AND ONE SOUL ALIVE.
SO THE DUCHESS'S OR WIFE'S SOUL TRANSFERRED TO THE READER'S BODY AND THE READER ITSELF STAYED IN THEIR OWN BODY LIKE THE BOTH SOUL IS SHARING THE SAME BODY SINCE ITS ONLY THE RESOURCE THEY BOTH HAVE. MOSTLY THE READER'S SOUL IS INSIDE BUT THE DUCHESS'S IS THE ONE TO CONTROL THE BODY, WITH THE HELP OF THEIR MEMORIES, THE DUCHESS WAS ABLE TO REMEMBER HER 'DEAR HUSBAND'.
SO.. IN THE PART 2 BTW, THE READER'S SOUL IS STILL ASLEEP AND THE HUSBAND ALSO GAINED THEIR MEMORIES BC OF THE DREAMS AS WELL AS THE NIGHTMARES.
ACTUALLY THE STORY SHOULD BE TALK ABT THE 'REINCARNATED HUSBAND' SINCE I THOUGHT IT WILL BE A GREAT HEADCANON AND IS ACTUAL TITLE BEFORE IT GOT REMOVED BUT SINCE IT BECAME A STORY OPPOSITE TO WHAT I WAS PLANNED BUT HEY I THINK IT TURNED OUT OKAY? BUT PLEASE I KNOW SOME OF YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT THE 'TRANSMIGRATION IS THE SAME AS THE REINCARNATION' I KNOW THAT, I JUST MAKE IT LIKE THAT KIND OF IDEA SINCE I VERY LIKED IT. AS MUCH AS I RESPECT AND DON'T MIND WHAT YOU GUYS COMMENT ON PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS JUST A WORK OF FANFICTION WHICH IS CREATED BY ME. THOUGH I DON'T KNOW IF THIS ACTUALLY EXPLAINS THE SHIT STORY HONESTLY TAT)
MANHWA INSPIRATION:
DEATH IS THE ONLY ENDING FOR THE VILLAINESS/ VILLAINS ARE DESTINED TO DIE.
THE REASON WHY RAELIANA ENDED UP AT THE DUKE'S MANSION.
Duke = The Head of the household
The Two step-brothers = One is the Heir and one is a General Captain.
The Fake lady duchess = A Once empress, ruler and the Fake duchess, illegitimate child.
The lovely daughter of the Duke = The child of the Duke who went missing for no reason.
------------

JiuYuan plot bunny
Shen Yuan transmigrates/reincarnates waay before the plot even begins, as a somewhat rich second or third son of a merchant family (cliché or clasic background? You decide) not specially sick nor a priority for his family as he's not likely to inherit almost anything he is send to cultivate to a small sect. Because who else will want their unremarkable son?
Turns out ranting about poetry in the street with a vendor is a sure way to make someone important want their unremarkable son.
Enter the current Lord of Qing Jing who saw a gremlin with taste and opinions and immediately wanted him. Also the immediate moment when Shen Yuan finds out where exactly he was reborn in (pray for him). So Shen Yuan gets to join directly into QJP if he passes the other test and well, the story wont go on if he doesn't so let's say he does.
His dumbass tries to make everyone believe he's lazy to avoid work like he did back home but Aha! Shizun is on his bs so in no time he's made head disciple. Natural teacher, excellent memory and talented swordsman (This nerd got too excited by swords and practiced so much he now is the best of his generation and he desperately wants you to know he didn't want for this to happen) it's like he was made to lead QJP!
Side note: LQG will be made head disciple of BZP in a year or so, that's why SY is the generation's best, currently.
Here comes the boy! Absolutely traumatized feral kitten Shen Jiu gets into CQM and QJP out of season and with his general attitude immediately gets enemies everywhere. Not problem! Da-Shixiong will show you around and- Oh? You don't want Da-Shixiong to speak with you? Alright. Just remember to get to dinner and sleep well, goodnight!
And just like that you get an oblivious Shen Yuan respecting a hesitantly curious Shen Jiu who, in turn, decides that the best thing to do with this interest is to find blackmail on SY and take his place as head disciple.
Cue shenanigans and hijinks with stalker SJ and unsuspecting SY. And them getting closer by basically respecting SJ's space and time and being a decent human?! What?!
So like bonding with a cat. Slow, respectfully and with lots and lots of treats. Once Shen Yuan figured out Shen Jiu's weakness is just sweets it's all over. Now hes SJ's shixiong and no one else's. No, shut up A-Yuan, they are not worth our time.
Does he trust SY unconditionally? He's getting there. Nighthunts and being saved like a damsel in distress once in a while helps, even if he gets hissy and pretends to not like it. More so when SY immediately turns to him for both counsel on investigations and to make sure he's safe while in the hunts. Also Shixiong spends almost all his time helping him in fixing his cultivation and teaching him the arts, even when no one else would give a shit, so he gets extra points by being a good boy to his A-Jiu.
Shen Yuan? He thinks he's being a good bro and helping SJ fix whatever made him such an ass in PIDW. He doesn't know what happened before SJ went to CQM nor his past as a slave, only thought he looked like a feral cat and acted accordingly. And yes, calling him A-Jiu is absolutely necessary to that recovery.
In the middle of this SY tries to make contact with TLJ to help him either run away with SXY or take out the OPM so the tragedy doesn't happend. But shit hits the fan and SY gets outed as a demon sympathizer when the sealing under a mountain still happens but he tries to reason with the CQM's sect leader that the demon was innocent.
No one can prove that he was a traitor but under the added presure of public sentiment he's punished severely. Sect leader gives him two choices; He either leaves and retrieves a mega ultra rare mcguffin that'll take him 20 years to get or gets banished immediately and losses any standing he has with the sect.
In simple terms: Prove your loyalty with this very difficult quest or leave.
As a pseudo-compromise sect leader promised no one will take his place if he leaves for the quest nor will they banish SJ for being so close to a posible traitor. SY, naturally, accepts the quest with all the spite and grief of someone who failed his true quest of saving his best friend and the world too he supposes.
But QJP cannot be without a Head disciple nor a Peak Lord! Because plot twist, the lords are preparing to ascend in the next like 5 years. Sect leader knew this, and this is his way to force QJ's peak lord to appoint a different head disciple when SY is away anyways. If that happens SY will lose everything anyways, even if he comes back.
So the strategists get together and make a plan.
Shen Yuan will leave in his quest but before that he'll marry someone trusted that can be acting peak lord in his absence but will not usurp his place. Doble plot twist! That person is Shen Jiu because just as SJ got mellower with SY's influence so did SY get more paranoid. He only trust his dear shidi and no one else but oh how could he force his shidi into- Oh? You'll do it? Why do i have to be the wif-
And they marry in semi secret, taking a small moment for SJ to make him doble promise to come back for him and to give his own doble promise to wait for his return. SJ doesn't like this, not one bit. But this time he's safe, in a position of power and tentatively ready to trust again. He'd rather have his husband with him at least for their wedding night but oh well, they don't get that. They make arrangements for SY to send letters to the WRP so SJ can know how he's doing even if he can't receive any in exchange. It'll be a lonely 20 years.
Shen Yuan leaves and Shen Jiu gets appointed acting head disciple and then acting peak lord. With his silks and his husband's name as a shield (Qingqiu is SY's, but he can use it because they married) he rules QJP much more detached than in PIDW, almost completely ignoring the disciples. This is his A-Yuan's work after all and if he wants it done he better hurry and come do it himself. They've always joked that SY would teach while SJ would govern the peak, even before ever discussing marriage (It didn't matter that A-Yuan didn't know they would eventually get married. They would have regardless)
And Yue Qingyuan you didn't ask? He's in the background wanting to talk to Xiao-Jiu constantly but SJ doesn't need him nor want him. SY's therapy helped him let go if not forgive YQY, he's at the point where he can just ignore him. YQY on the other hand is guiltily ecstatic SY is out of the picture and Xiao-Jiu can be peak lord and rule at his side. Just like he wanted!
Like that 15 years pass. SJ still gets a reputation of going to brothels even if its to read his hubby's letters and sleep. And at this point all other peak lords either forgot he's technically just acting peak lord or never knew there was another Shen-Shixiong who should be peak lord instead.
At this point I'm not sure how to proceed. It'll have to be either:
a) Shen Yuan comes back during the demon invasion or
b) He comes when they are having a peak lord meeting for conveniences sake
Let's do invasion for dramatic purposes.
So you have a supremely pissed off SJ dealing with the demons and watching as the runt of his peak desperately tries to beat his opponent while making a mockery out of their QJP fighting style (LBH is actually doing pretty good, SJ is just Like That™) when suddenly a sword only he recognizes flies faster than a bullet to stop the defeated demon from attacking the little beast and the whole place falls into silence. SJ can hear his pulse in his ears, he almost can't breathe.
The disciples are looking at him for instructions but he can't think of anything as the most beautiful face he has ever seen slowly walks out of the trees into the improvised arena. His hair is finally long now, but not even close to well cared for. His clothes dusty and well worn but not threadbare nor stained with ink like it usually was in their disciple days. His A-Yuan is glorious as he makes the demons run like the pathetic bugs they are.
LQG has come too but there's not more fighting to be had, only a couple reunited at last. SJ sends decorum through the window and yanks his A-Yuan into a long awaited kiss in front of basically every disciple and an enraged and flustered LQG (Man is having the weirdest awakening)
SY is surprised at first but quickly reciprocates, finally at peace with his feelings. Because guess what, 15 years of pinning + letters that slowly become romantic without the fear of retribution will do just fine for him to admit he fell in love with his husband at some point. He was scared shitless of SJ reaction to him coming back and it was only that promise what made him go home regardless. A-Jiu can hate him, but he is NOT breaking that promise. He even made it 5 years earlier, isn't he such a good husband?
Later in the emergency meating LQG is still screaming at them for shameless and inmoral and how could this be the first thing Shen Yuan does when he comes back when they could've just spared
And everyone else (minus YQY, SQH and the beast peak lord) are just like What? Who's this? And SY looks at YQY disapprovingly (He knows YQY covets his wife and purposely didn't tell them) and explains he's the QJ peak lord and SJ as his husband has been ruling QJ in his stead for the past 15 years. And yes, that's why SJ is sitting in his lap.
When the whole story comes out everyone is more surprised to know they are married than the fact SY made the last sect leader so angry he was basically given a suicide mission (Not even YQY knew that) but don't worry! He has absolutely no inclination of taking his A-Jiu's position away. He'd rather teach his little disciples and let his wife to berate their martial siblings as is his right (Someone said they'll be happy having SY instead of SJ in meetings from now on and He Did Not Like That) So they'll share the name Qingqiu as QJ has two peak lords from now on.
Now if they'll excuse them they have a wedding night to finally enjoy.

A danmei lover's biased and incomplete het web novel rec list
@mercipourleslivres thanks for inspiring me!
When it comes to Chinese web novels, I mainly read danmei. I tend not to care too much for OP heroine with a hero who dotes on her for no reason as she fights with 14 year olds narratives, nor inner courtyard fights. BUT!!! There are some het web novels I like and so here is my biased and incomplete rec list. Most of these don't have OP heroines, and very little to none courtyard fights.
Before I start, my favorite het web novel authors are: Gong Xinwen, Mo Shu Bai, Peng Lai Ke, and Jiu Lu Fei Xiang. I have yet to read anything bad by them.
Anyway, rec list:
1000 Miles of Bright Moonlight - one of my ultimate favorites, this would make such an epic drama! A smart as hell heroine, a hero who is a monk and a warrior (but also terminally?) ill and such a vivid world and amazing secondary characters (heroine’s brother is possibly my favorite supporting character of all time) and so much angst and happy ending. This has an amazing romance but it’s not romance-centric if it makes sense - ML doesn’t appear for a while. But once he does, it’s worth it!
Accompanying the Phoenix - the one that just got adapted into The Legend of Shen Li, this is high adventure and cottage core and funny and tragic and powerful ML being putty in the hands of capable FL and just EVERYTHING.
Apocalypse Arrival - Gong Xinwen’s novels are made just for me. Her heroines are always powerful as fuck and rescue abused MLs. In this novel, our heroine who lives in the post-apocalyptic world, wakes up right before that apocalypse happens. She forms a survival crew and also rescues ML who has miraculous blood and has been drained of it and is now hunted after the rescue for it. SO GOOD!!!
Black Moonlight Holds the BE Script - so fucked up, so good, with monster hero who learns to love and be human and heroine who learns to love and be human (but from the other side, her tower of perfection.) Much better than the drama which I did enjoy.
The Blue Whisper - the drama was so-so, but the novel is a bona fide angst masterpiece, which really delves into what it feels like to be imprisoned or to love.
Counterattack of the Cannon Fodder Chambermaid - I remember starting this and loving the realistic feel and the heroine and wanting to stab the hero and @mercipourleslivres telling me to be patient. She was right, by the end I was on board with both the hero (who was abused and is rather autistic-coded) and the OTP. Anyway, heroine is a servant who was a concubine in the last life and got killed as part of a rich family’s harem intrigues. In this life, she just wants to keep her head down but her life gets derailed anyway. She gets sold away and eventually made a servant in the household of an exiled prince who takes a fancy to her and she endures it because what choice does she have? All she wanted was to serve out her term and become a small time merchant. This is quite realistic about lack of options for women, especially lower class women or upper class male attitudes (ML is never vicious or mean to FL but it does not initially occur to him to wonder if she fancies him or enjoys being his concubine or w/e.) It is a DELIGHTFUL slow burn tho as they grow to love each other and grow together and become one of the most wholesome cnovel couples out there.
Dandere General and His Lord - hi there, Gong Xinwen! God, I love this one. Heroine transmigrates from modern world into a brutal slave-holding world at war (think something like Warring States era.) Our heroine transmigrates into the body of a noblewoman who just hung herself. When she comes to, she discovers that woman’s twin brother was the ruler of a city poisoned by a rival claimant and the besieging army of said claimant is about to take the city and original occupant of the body and the rest of the family chose suicide as a way to avoid dishonor. Our heroine refuses, schemes with advisors to pass as the brother and rally the troops. Once the invaders are defeated, she keeps on the masquerade and rides off to one of the never-ending wars “she” is summoned to. Our hero couldn’t be farther from this. A slave and a son of a slave, he’s escaped a horrific, starving childhood during which he narrowly avoided being murdered or raped, and ended up in the army. When the story opens, he distinguished himself in battle and as a reward, he and a few of his fellow slave warriors are invited to a banquet, where they are given some alcohol and to be playthings of any nobles who want them. One of them does not survive this but ML is lucky - heroine feels terrible and so “claims” him for herself. Instead she just tends to his wounds and sends him back. She does not fancy him or anything, she is just a human being with a conscience. And the story goes from there.
Demon King's Repayment - another delicious Gong Xinwen tale with a powerful ML dedicated to capable FL. This one is a great fantasy plot (I keep imagining it as an animated series) and a sprawling cast of amazing secondaries (and secondary OTPs - there is, I swear, an OTP that is Dong Hua x Feng Jiu done thru GXW lens) to boot.
Doomed to Be Cannon Fodder - I hesitated to put this one on the list because by the end I was not keen on how misogynistic novel got to original female lead but it was one of my earliest novels and I loved it for 90% and it’s fucking hilarious at times. Heroine transmigrates as bit villainess into a novel, all she wants is not to die, but her new attitude of “pls stay away” catches the attention of her terrifying general husband. Honestly, imo still worth it.
Dreamer in the Spring Boudoir - my n1 novel on this list, smart and fierce and don’t really read this for romance because it does not start until really late, but ice cold heroine x ice cold hero both of equal brains and ruthlessness is everything. I went from loathing the ML to finding him fascinating to adoring him (and yet he softened around the edges only for FL, he never became “nice”) and loved FL throughout; secondaries are epic. If you read only one non-danmei web novel, make it this one.
The Emperor’s Beloved Ugly Girl - my n2 novel on this list. Our heroine is the unlucky laundry maid A’Chou. She is a di daughter of an upperclass family but her family got destroyed in one of the political upheavals of the time and A’Chou, only a small child at the time, was the only survivor and was made an enslaved laundry maid. Due to various events, at the start of the novel she is a laundry maid in a minister’s household and the minister’s beloved daughter is having a fit because she’s supposed to marry the former Crown Prince which may have been great a few years back but Crown Prince had since been deposed, tortured, imprisoned and now is living in the middle of nowhere under conditions that are too meager to be called house arrest. And he’s seriously crippled too. Understandably, the young lady doesn’t want to marry him! She’d rather kill herself and so she does. And so, a desperate plan is hatched - why don’t we pretend the laundry maid is the di daughter of the minister’s household and send her off? And so A’Chu is sent as the bride. She arrives to discover a broke, seriously injured man on the verge of death…and we go from there. This is so gorgeous and tender and slow in just the right way and like AAAAAA! Secondary OTPs (one of which is MM) are also epic.
Futu Tower - the drama (Unchained Love) was a mess but the novel is such a lovely, dark exploration of coming back to life, for the ML from his dark revenge-strewn path and for heroine from not being allowed wishes of her own. She is a tribute bride, he’s a (fake) eunuch, they are both servants who use themselves to achieve goals and find peace and happiness together.
The Grand Princess - a tale where both members of the OTP reincarnate as their younger selves after killing each other in their 50s, and get a new start, this is smart and slow and so good in portraying old souls in young bodies. Their rediscovery of not just each other but themselves and their passion for living is just AAAAAA!
Heroine Saves Gentleman - Gong Xinwen novel so we have a tough martial artist lady saving a very upper class scholar and it goes from there. If elegant gorgeous ML being saved and protected (and lovingly dommed) by awesome FL is your bag, pls come right in.
Husband Be a Gentleman - schemer meet schemer. He’s an idle prince she’s perfect daughter, in reality both are wolves out for blood. Mmmm. Very OTP gets together early and is us against the world.
I’ll Be the Male Lead’s Sister in Law - one of my all time favorite novels. Heroine is made to marry a disabled nephew of the emperor. He used to be a victorious god of war but went mad and now is basically locked away and kept as a beast. GOD I LOVE THIS NOVEL SO MUCHHHHH! So much hurt/comfort and awesome OTP and after he eventually recovers, all he wants to do is to fight and murder things and dote on wifey. MMM. He’s honestly one of my fave MLs.
I Married a Disabled Tyrant After Transmigrating - if you have a Florence Nightingale complex, this is for you. Heroine wakes up as tribute bride to an almost dead dragon lord and slowly nurses him back to life as his rivals try to murder him. They are both utter adorable babies!
Let the Villain Go - another Gong Xinwen novel, this and Apocalypse Arrivals are AUs of each other. Heroine is surviving in the apocalypse, ML is the “bugbear” of the world but in reality just reacting to all abuse and torture and after she accidentally saves him, devotes himself. Fun fun fun!
Long Wind Crossing - Amazing ML and FL who grow together, clever plot, arranged marriage to love etc etc. Oh, and one point he feeds her his blood to keep her alive, what’s not to love? (Adapted into Chang Feng Du/Destined)
Lost You Forever - this is a short but delicately wistful tale of trauma and loss and love, wrapped in a high fantasy setting but so relatable despite it.
Love In Another Life: My Gentle Tyrant - so so fucked up in the best way! ML cannot live with OR without heroine. It opens on them banging in jail night before her execution (ordered by him) with corpses of men he killed for trying to defile her cooling nearby. If you want healthy relationships with respectful boundaries, gentle and considerate male leads who are modern men in period clothes, OP heroines who have everyone help them and are OP to the max, fluff and wholesomeness, that is about the worst book for you.If you want complexity, dysfunction, darkness, pain and an absolutely lyrical even if fucked up story, come right IN!!!!I am so fucking in love with the melancholy heroine, with ruthless psycho hero and the endless regret and devotion and paaaaain!
The Marquis Is Innocent - our heroine is a beautiful woman married to a warlord who hates her family. (Yes, this was gonna be The Prisoner of Beauty until SZE tax scandal.) Except she's a transmigrator from the future who knows how it ended last time around and has no interest to end up this tragically. This is in my top 5 - FL is smart but believably so (and doesn't have super battle powers) and ML is a believable period warlord. The way their relationship develops so gradually and the way his character changes so gradually as well (and the way they slowly fall in love, her slower than him) is just amazing. It is such a smart, nuanced, gorgeous slow burn. With some gonzo sex scenes :P
Mulberry Song - you like tragic endings? Come right IN! This is short and heartbreaking and wistful and very what-if.
Nightfall (Ever Night) - so long but also so smart and unusual and bloody and tho it’s not primarily a romance, you will never see another ML who loves his FL as much as Ning Que does his Sang Sang.
Offering Salted Fish to Master - in some ways, this novel is a mess, but I am recommending it because this is a rare example of "nope he's 100% a villain and murderdude and odd, but he does love the heroine" that the author commits to.
Pihanjin - yet another awesome PLK novel, this is once again, like with Marquis, a ruthless man and a beautiful woman getting a second chance on a second go-around. FL is a lot more wounded this time around though. If you LOVE watching ML grovel and slowly, gradually win FL over, this one is for you.
Princess Agents - a dark tale with an incredibly competent and militarily powerful/ruthless heroine and two terrifying men who love her (but neither is as terrifying as she is.) There is an OTP switch halfway through that shockingly makes sense and it's just SO SO GOOOOOOOD
Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage - this is probably the one “typical” novel on this list, heroine is reborn as her youngest self and gets revenge on those who wronged her last time around. It is really really well-written and heroine is competent, hero is doting and powerful etc. It’s not a trope I tend to love but I do when it’s done THIS well.
Rebirth of the Tyrant’s Pet: Regent Prince is Too Fierce: Borgias cnovel style! Our heroine was empress in last life and put her husband on the throne tho he did not love her. However, he had her executed and had his half-brother carry out the orders and heroine died horrifically. She opens her eyes and she’s a little girl again. The OTP this time around is heroine and half-brother executioner. Why do I love it? Heroine is smart and tough but also this is a rare rebirth novel where heroine does NOT decide to seek revenge for past life wrongs because they haven’t happened yet! In fact, she sees ML abused and stands up for him because he’s a kid and no kid should be mistreated and this go around he hasn’t done anything wrong. She also gets and likes her former life husband. Anyway, this is fakecest galore because she’s supposed to be their half-sister and while she knows (from past life) she is not, they do not and fall for her anyway. ML is especially gonzo, at one point carving chunks of his flesh to save her. He’s feral and unhinged and she’s the one person he worships because she protected him and like - it’s all awesome. (I love secondary ML too.)
Reborn to Love Lord Qiansui - yes, this is a eunuch novel! If you like gender tropes reversals, this one is for you. Heroine is a tough martial artist, hero is a smart as hell and powerful eunuch. A real eunuch. Heroine finds out she owes him her life and decides to protect him. This is a total delight and an awesome love story between two really scarred people. And yes, there is sex - heroine literally reads manuals on pegging :P
Return of the Swallow - so freaking long! But really good. Heroine is neither transmigrator nor reincarnator, just a smart period woman. She is a lost family daughter taken back in. Her father is a minister in a dying empire (father-daughter relationship is one of the best things in this novel), her OTP is enemy general, and the smartness and the awesomeness of this all knows no bounds.
Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes - probably the wackiest JLFX novel I read, this is quite different from Love You Seven Times drama that was adapted from it. Our deity protagonists go through a bunch of lives figuring out they fancy each other. It's light like a souffle but just as delicious.
To Be a Virtuous Wife - some people prefer 8 treasures trousseau but I never warmed up to that one. This one is so good, with smart people (who actually enjoy sex, a ratity) and a perfect mix of plot and romance.
Transmigrator Meets Reincarnator - my very first web novel. A lot lighter than a lot of the ones on this list but a total delight. Heroine transmigrates into a novel as the heroine; she has no interest in drama or chasing true love, she just wants to live a nice life with her nice husband. Too bad for her, her husband has reincarnated into his younger self and remembers how she betrayed him, so is not interested. This one is funny and light and romance doesn’t start till late on but a total delight!
Wishing You Eternal Happiness - this is tied with Dreamer as my favorite het web novel ever though it couldn’t be more different from Dreamer, with its hard-edged and hard-souled protagonists ruthlessly cleaving their way to the world and, eventually, each other, its smart cynical air. Except in one thing - the world of Wishing is just as bloody and dark. Its two protagonists are gentle, deeply wounded souls who may find salvation in each other but even something as basic as safety almost seems out of reach.
Jliafu, our heroine, is neither a modern-day transmigrator, nor some exotic princess or demoness. She is very much a period woman of her time, from a weathy merchant clan, whose beauty is her curse. You can tell the novel’s tone from that utterly bleak opening chapter where she, a favorite concubine of a capricious dying emperor, is ordered to be buried alive with him and is not even given the “grace” of white silk but slowly suffocates in the coffin, scrabbling at the lid. There is no grand threats of vengeance on her part, not dramatic opera events. Just despair and death. The whole introductory chapter is haunted by emotional ghosts - the empress’ unrequited love for the monster on the imperial bed (turning into desire for Jiafu’s suffering after he dies), the emperor slowly dying in his prime after waging too many wars, and his fear of being haunted by Pei Youan, a brilliant if sickly minister who died of illness long ago on one of imperial campaigns. There is no triumph for anyone, only loss.
When she wakes up as still a young woman, all she wants is to escape the same fate. There are no plans for power or revenge, only a desire for survival. And so she latches on asking for help from Pei Youan, the only man in her past go-around who showed any consideration and desire and ability to protect her, though he barely knew her. Pei Youan is probably my favorite het web novel ML. Despite his brains and ability, he drifts through life. In modern terms, he clearly has depression. One of the biggest, best joys of the novel is watching these two very good, very quiet, very wounded people discover happiness and love with each other. I sort of want to cry just thinking about it, tbh.
The Yandere Came During the Night - a bit of fluff that’s oddly delightful. Heroine is reborn as a (fake) sister of ML, she hurts her legs saving him and the “siblings” form a bond that ends up in fakecest delight. They are both smart and efficient and he becomes a sexy marquis etc.

gently in the cold dark earth
scum villain's self saving system word count: 2k canon divergent / no system au; sy transmigrates into an empty npc role; gray lotus binghe loves his shixiong more than life and he's ready to make it everyone's problem

The first thing Luo Binghe does when he escapes the Abyss is return to Cang Qiong Mountain.
With Xin Mo secured to his back, the way could be instant if he so chose—the journey of a thousand miles reduced to a single step—but he unsheathes the elegant jian at his hip instead.
Yong Liang sings sweetly for him, the snow white blade still shining and untainted even after years of helping Luo Binghe carve his way through hell. It has never once failed him, soulbound to the one person still on this earth who has never failed him.
“Take it,” his shixiong insisted, low and urgent. The Abyss was behind them, an even deadlier threat was ahead, and Without A Cure clogging his meridians made Luo Binghe the best choice to wield the only unshattered spirit sword they had between them. “Binghe, take it.”
He pressed until Luo Binghe’s grip curled tight around the hilt, not hesitating to put his soul in Luo Binghe’s hands even with the rosy glow of an unsealed demon mark shining on his face.
Luo Binghe flies at a pace best described as dangerously reckless, hardly smelling the fragrant spring air or feeling the sun on his face. His robes are a disgrace, his hair a tangled, matted mess, and it occurs to him that he could stop somewhere and clean himself up, make himself presentable, but it’s a brief, fleeting thought.
Shen Yuan would be furious to find out that Luo Binghe wasted even a single second returning to his side.
——
He passes through the ancient wards effortlessly, feeling them fall away from him like water. It’s a simple thing to tamp down on his demonic qi, to disguise the parts of him that those so-called righteous cultivators would scorn. He ghosts through the familiar grounds as eagerly as a starving animal bolting down a fresh game trail, but one by one, all of their familiar haunts come up empty, without even a lingering trace of Shen Yuan’s spiritual energy left behind.
The head disciple’s room is dusted and undisturbed, as if its occupant might walk through the door at any moment, but the lack of clutter and the empty book shelf makes it very clear to Luo Binghe what the truth must be.
If Shen Yuan returned to the peak after the Conference, he didn’t stay.
All at once, images crowd the front of his mind—his shixiong grieving, pulling away, turning his back on those responsible for his heartache.
Yue Qingyuan, always only a step behind wherever his precious Xiu Ya sword went, promised that no one wanted to hurt them. They only wanted to help.
He looked so solemn and righteous that Shen Yuan reluctantly allowed himself to be convinced. Luo Binghe, who had gone to the man for help after a bloody whipping when he was a child, only to be given a walnut cake and turned away at the door, knew better.
He wasn’t surprised when Shen Yuan was wrenched away from him, and shizun sent him staggering off the cliff with a spiritual dagger buried to the hilt in his chest, all of it happening within a matter of seconds—but it still hurt.
Shen Yuan’s scream followed him all the way down.
I’m alive, Luo Binghe thinks, with no one there to tell it to. I came back to you. Let me come back to you.
——
Including time spent in the abyss, it’s three years before they meet again.
Luo Binghe’s revenge is his second priority at best, but he is nothing if not efficient and knows how to kill two birds with the same stone. Huan Hua affords him ample resources and opportunities to scour the world for his missing shixiong while playing the role of earnest and diligent new disciple. He snatches up each mission that comes along as though  eager to prove his worth to the sect that so graciously took him in, but he takes every excuse to wander, to search, to make conversation with vendors and innkeepers and passing strangers.
Have you seen my heart? It lives outside of me in the form of a beautiful young man and tends to wander. Very contrary, likes to fuss over people, could argue the stripes off a lushu just for fun. You’d know it if you met it. You’d never forget.
The days blur together, meaningless and gray, but he doesn’t stop looking. Shen Yuan still exists somewhere in this world, because otherwise Luo Binghe wouldn’t. It’s the only thing that makes sense. The alternative doesn’t bear thinking about.
And then, finally—an afternoon in Jinlan City, when Luo Binghe arrives in a throng of incompetent gold-clad Huan Hua disciples, to investigate a plague of all things—
He’s there.
In dark, neutral colors and plain clothes, a traveling cloak with its hood resting down around his shoulders, as if his beauty could possibly be lessened by cheap, shapeless fabrics rather than effortlessly enhanced. His hair falls from its half-tail in glorious waves—he never did have the patience for anything elaborate, only wearing braids when one of his sticky shidimei cajoled and convinced him. Traveling alone, who could he possibly have to roll his eyes at and complain about and sit patiently still for?
A pale green ribbon is all that decorates his hair. Luo Binghe recognizes it instantly.
“You should spend your allowance on yourself, Binghe,” Shen Yuan scolded him, not for the first time and certainly not for the last.
“But I did,” Luo Binghe protested, widening his eyes and clasping his hands earnestly, the way he knew worked best. “I wanted it! And now that I have it, I want to give it to you.”
Shen Yuan was too clever by half to be truly fooled by the innocent act, but he always folded like paper anyway. He spoiled all of his shidimei but Luo Binghe most of all. Anyone on Qing Jing Peak would be hard-pressed to think of a single example of Shen Yuan telling Luo Binghe ‘no.’
Sure enough, after a second spent visibly wrestling with himself, he blurted, “Oh, fine! Hand it over.”
He wore it every day since. He’s wearing it now. The wind catches the ends of it, sending it streaming behind him like the tails of a paradise flycatcher. Lovely.
For a brief moment, Luo Binghe is frozen where he stands, finally faced with the very thing that he’s been missing for years, that he’s been living a miserable half-life without.
And then he remembers himself and lurches forward. His voice is a tangle in his throat but he manages to choke out, “Shixiong!”
A strike of lightning couldn’t have jolted Shen Yuan into more perfect stillness. He stops mid-step, every inch of him as good as carved from precious jade. He doesn’t turn his head, and the sliver of his face visible from where Luo Binghe stands is very pale.
Luo Binghe wonders suddenly if this has happened to him before—if Shen Yuan has heard a voice on the road or in the market that was almost familiar, that was almost the one he was hoping for, only to be disappointed when he turned to follow it and found a stranger.
Luo Binghe shortens the distance between them with a few anxious steps and tries again.
“Shixiong.”
The older boy whirls around abruptly, as if to get it over with. He’s bracing himself, but Luo Binghe barely has a second to absorb Shen Yuan’s painful-looking anticipation before it bleeds out of his face in favor of something else entirely.
He looks like the earth has fallen out from beneath his feet, like he hardly dares to believe his eyes. Zheng Yang gleams golden at Shen Yuan’s hip, reforged and whole again.
“Binghe?”
“It’s me,” Luo Binghe says softly.
There’s a tableau he’s afraid to break, as if they’re in a delicate dreamscape and a move too sudden or loud might dissolve it. He wants to say I’ve missed you the way lungs miss air, immediately and needfully, I haven’t breathed at all since we’ve been apart. He wants to say you’re my light in the dark, I can only stand in front of you now because I love you too much to ever truly leave you.
Instead, he tells his dearest friend, “This one made you wait. But your Binghe is here.”
Shen Yuan sprints the rest of the way to meet him, almost before he’s even finished talking, and they collide in a solid embrace that knocks the air from them both.
His arms wind around Luo Binghe’s waist like steel bands, fingers digging into the back of his robes, precious face pressed into the crook of his neck and shoulder. Luo Binghe doesn’t hesitate to gather him up close, holding him as tightly and securely as he knows how, burying his nose in his shixiong’s hair and breathing in the familiar, beloved smell of him.
Shen Yuan is a few inches shorter than he remembers. All the better to tuck him beneath Luo Binghe’s chin, to cover and surround him so completely that not even the heavens above can get a decent eyeful.
He wants to grab and bite and pin Shen Yuan beneath him and never let go. His jaw aches with wanting it.
“I’ve been looking for you,” Luo Binghe says, eyes wet. “I went home first.” Unsaid goes the obvious but you weren’t there.
“How could I stay?” Shen Yuan bites out, managing to sound all at once strangled and bewildered and—charmingly—offended. He shakes his head without lifting it, an aggressive nuzzle against Binghe’s shoulder. “After what they did to you, I’d rather die than represent their stupid sect another minute.”
“Step away from it, Shen Yuan,” shizun said coldly. “I’ll put that beast back where it belongs.”
“No,” shixiong said in a voice that was smaller than usual, one that shook. He was frightened, clearly overwhelmed, but he didn’t budge from where he was plastered in front of Luo Binghe like a breathing shield.
“Now.”
“No, shizun.”
“Shizhi,” Yue Qingyuan said gently, offering his hand. “Come here. It will be alright.”
Shen Yuan said, “No. You can’t hurt Binghe. He’s not bad just because of who his parents are. He’s as good as he was yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that. He’s hardworking and loyal and a sweetheart to anybody who gives him half a chance. He’s so good.”
Liu Qingge was behind the sect leader, sword drawn. Shen Qingqiu was quickly losing what little patience he had, face twisted into a sneer, dark eyes stabbing hatefully at Luo Binghe from over his head disciple’s shoulder. There were more figures rapidly drawing closer, the other peak lords following the flare of Yue Qingyuan’s qi. The standoff was becoming more and more untenable, and Shen Yuan was too smart not to see that, shrinking back against Luo Binghe as much as he could without crowding him closer to the edge.
“You can’t hurt him,” he said again, the closest Luo Binghe had ever heard him come to tears, “he’s my shidi.”
Luo Binghe is unsurprised by his shixiong’s loyalty, because it’s already been proven to him over and over. It’s unremarkable at this point, which is an absolutely remarkable thing in itself. It makes him feel warm with gratitude and affection and ownership.
Shen Yuan is clever and quick on his feet and always three steps ahead, more knowledgeable about flora and fauna than anyone else Binghe has ever known combined, and probably a force to be reckoned with as a rogue cultivator, where the only rules of conduct he has to adhere to are his own.
But Luo Binghe hates to think of him on the road alone, without the little martial siblings who follow him like ducklings, without his Binghe there to make sure he remembers to eat all his meals and comb out his hair before bed. He’s a creature of comfort, made for airy rooms with too many cushions and an abundance of sweets and books to read.
Luo Binghe has fantasized more than once about building a home for Shen Yuan to lounge prettily in. It was, in fact, his favorite flavor of daydream since he was about thirteen.
If Shen Yuan wants to rogue cultivate, then that’s what they’ll do. But Luo Binghe thinks, if he constructs a palace that’s as comfortable as it is grand, and fills it with trashy romance novels and obscure beasts and his own hand-made meals, he can convince his friend to live in it with him.
Shen Yuan needs to be taken care of. Luo Binghe needs to be the one taking care of him. They’re together now and they’ll never be apart again and those needs can both be met.
That possessive, proprietary feeling coils dark and deep inside him, undulating lazily like a serpent who’s fed enough for days, reminding him over and over what he already knows:
Mine.

Mission unclear, process to fuck the king
Shen Yuan's whole wife beam halo being able to redeem terrible personality types into something kind of... cute? adorable? endearing? + Shen Yuan transmigrating far far earlier into PIDW (but not as Shen Qingqiu) ->
Linguang Jun falls in love with Shen Yuan. And since this is precanon... Shen Yuan takes the place of the nameless female demon who Linguang Jun fell in love with (and later blackened because he lost her).
Anyways, Linguang Jun X Shen Yuan happens. Shen Yuan isn't exactly sure what's going on, but his system isn't protesting and he's kind of liking where things are going... until he gets kidnapped by Linguang Jun's brother.
Bride-snatching to be exact.
And uh... Shen Yuan's system awakens and issues a mission for the 1st time ever outside of tutorial mode.
Things happen.
Shen Yuan's wife beam ends up turning PIDW onto its head because he somehow gets the two Mobei brothers to agree to... share him?? If the system is forcing him to get married to the current Mobei Jun and Shen Yuan still wants his current lover/fiancé... well CLEARLY the problem is that getting railed by one overly sized prick isn't enough because PIDW IS a harem novel after all. And since Shen Yuan is replacing a female demon's place and this is precanon, Shen Yuan has to keep the readers' vague interest with a small harem of his own.
Well. That's the theory Shen Yuan comes up with to explanation what the fuck his life has become after he accidentally tripped into having a ice pillar up his ass and another one in his mouth at the same time while there's a baby ice demon crying for Mama Shen Yuan in the background.
Dealing with two ice demons.. at the same time in bed... Woe is Shen Yuan('s backside).
Woe is baby Mobei Jun because his mom is too busy in bed, forcing him to contend with servants to change his nappy instead. Oh the horror!
Some things in PIDW still stay the same. Shen Jiu abuses Luo Bing, a Luo Binghe falls into the Endless Abyss, a Luo Binghe defeats Mobei Jun... and then the Luo Binghe meets Mobei Jun's mother (and dad and uncle who's abdicated in order to spend more time with their wife).
Luo Binghe's age gap kink and competitive streak kicks in. Mobei Jun's father and uncle have never been closer or friendly with each other before this.
All's well that ends well. Especially as Shen Yuan gets to play evil mother in law to Airplane.

Due to a glitch in the System, instead of Shen Qingqiu Shen Yuan is transmigrated into the body of wife #76. Thoroughly invested in NOT becoming said wife when that arc arrives, he immediately fucks off to become a rogue cultivator. Unfortunately the System won’t let him leave the plot entirely—like the original wifely goods, he stumbles on a wounded, unnamed cultivator. Whether or not there was an aphrodisiac/sex pollen/curse involved doesn’t matter, because months down the line Shen Yuan can no longer deny the fact that he’s pregnant.
Chaos ensues.

In my personal opinion, there just aren’t enough stories about someone transmigrating into the opposite gender and being just super okay with it.
Like, a woman who becomes a man and just keeps living life the way she used to. A man becoming a woman and just keeping on keeping on. I love these types of stories where there’s an unrealistic lack of body dysmorphia and the mc just enjoys living.

My favorite non-danmei web novels
Since some of you were interested, I decided to make this list. It’s in an alphabetical order since to figure out which I like more than the other is too hard. I have either finished all of these or enough to have an opinion.
SO GOOD!!!
The Blue Whisper - the drama was so-so, but the novel is a bona fide angst masterpiece, which really delves into what it feels like to be imprisoned or to love.
Black Moonlight Holds the BE Script - so fucked up, so good, with monster hero who learns to love and be human and heroine who learns to love and be human (but from the other side, her tower of perfection.) Much better than the drama.
Chang’an’s Greatest Beauty - a starkly realistic look at what happens to a beautiful period woman with no options. She becomes an outside mistress of a powerful aristocrat who she loathes. The delight is when ML, who barely thinks of others as human, falls in love with her and realizes she does not care about him and descends into regret and despair.
Chang Feng Du - reading it right now. Amazing ML and FL who grow together, clever plot, arranged marriage to love etc etc. Oh, and one point he feeds her his blood to keep her alive, what’s not to love?
Dandere General and His Lord - hi there, Gong Xinwen! God, I love this one. Heroine transmigrates from modern world into a brutal slaveholding world at war (think something like Warring States era.) Our heroine transmigrates into the body of a noblewoman who just hung herself.
She arrives to discover a broke, seriously injured man on the verge of death...and we go from there. This is so gorgeous and tender and slow in just the right way and like AAAAAA! Secondary OTPs (one of which is MM) are also epic.
Futu Tower - the drama was terrible but the novel is such a lovely, dark exploration of coming back to life, for the ML from his dark revenge-strewn path and for heroine from not being allowed wishes of her own. She is a tribute bride, he’s a (fake) eunuch, they are both servants who use themselves to achieve goals and find peace and happiness together.
Heroine Saves a Gentleman - Gong Xinwen novel so we have a tough martial artist lady saving a very upper class scholar and it goes from there.
Husband Be a Gentleman - schemer meet schemer. He’s an idle prince she’s perfect daughter, in reality both are wolves out for blood. Mmmm.
Joy of Life - there is NO romance in this one (ML is polygamous) but this is such a smart, snarky delight.
Nightfall (Ever Night) - so long but also so smart and unusual and bloody and tho it’s not primarily a romance, you will never see another ML who loves his FL as much as Ning Que does his Sang Sang.
Princess Agents - dark as fuck, with the best slow burn and heroine who kicks metric tons of ass.
The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage - this is probably the one “typical” novel on this list, heroine is reborn as her youngest self and gets revenge on those who wronged her last time around.
Revenge of the Cannon Fodder Chambermaid - I remember starting this and loving the realistic feel and the heroine and wanting to stab the hero and @mercipourleslivres telling me to be patient.

The Legendary Master’s Wife
Tumblr media
Author: Yin Ya/ 尹琊
Chapters: 713 chapters + 18 extras
Summary:
After an explosion, You XiaoMo finds that he is now a probationary disciple of the TianXin sect. However, he is one with dubious potential, so just when he starts to adapt to his new circumstances, he receives a piece of bad news. If he is unable to produce the required result after half a year to become an official disciple of the TianXin sect, he would be driven out of the sect.
While You XiaoMo is going all out to make medicines and earn money, he runs into Ling Xiao. To his horror, he later discovers that Ling Xiao is actually someone cloaked in human skin.
Rating: 9.6/10
I have only read the first book of the quadritology and I'm starting the second, but I really like this story. The adventure have just began but I can assure you that XiaoMo is a great character, with great "personality" according to Ling Xiao, you know what I mean :3.
Ling Xiao is another interesting character with a really long story and lots of secrets but he's easy to understand, at least, when he's with XiaoMo.
The only reason I am not giving this story a 10 out 10 is the translation. The one who did it is very good and I would like to thank them for translating this incredibly long masterpiece, but in some parts the way the story is translated gets a bit confusing.
Anyways, if you are looking for a fun book filled to the brim with magic, fantastic beasts, lovely characters, mysteries and love, this is for you!

i know femslash feburary is over, but do you know any GLs where its old noblewomen/royalty? Because I kept reading like, villainess novels and they always have 2 pretty gay old women with something going on so i was wondering
[haggard] the closest match I can think of is the extras of her shim chong where the wife of the chancellor’s son runs off with the hot woman everyone in the village hates. not particularly old but I’m pretty sure they’re in their 30s. I wish I could say there were more. other closest match the adult women but not old woman criteria would be pdl’s chinese webnovels—ruzhui and female general eldest princess have then meet when they’re adults, clear and muddy loss of l… love? life? oops it’s love. has them meet when younger but follows them through life. I’m actually not good at reading stuff that goes all in on palace drama so I haven’t finished any of them
