Boatem Homestuck Classpects (pt 1 desert Duo)

Okay so with @chrisrin single-handedly getting my homestuck nostalgia from five years ago rearing its ugly head, I’ve decided to try to sort the boatem crew into classpects. I am starting off with desert Duo and hopefully, I’ll be able to churn out the other three soon after. My credentials are I watched a ton of optimisticduelist’s videos at the peak of my homestuck phase and sorted characters in digimon with their classpects and captchalogue. So without further ado when I should be getting ready to head out to college, the boatem classpects. (Also boo, gendered classes are stupid therefore no classes are gendered.)

Grian

Grian is the Heir of Rage. One who invites change through rage or one who invites changes through rage, for others

Rage in the context of homestuck does not always correlate with anger but rather the idea of chaos. The destabilization of things that we once knew. While there are obvious examples of this in the hermitcraft series I’d like to start with Evo. 

Evo was a server that was constantly changing, with every new update to the minecraft would invited a sense of chaos to the world. However, despite creating the world itself, Grian invites rage to change Evo through the watchers, leaving him in more passive role. That’s not to say that Grian didn’t cause his own brand of active chaos on the server with his pranking, but his biggest act of rage was through the watchers changing the world. Finally, Grian cemented his role as an heir by quite literally inheriting the role of the watcher. 

In Hermitcraft, Grian invitation of change through rage can be seen through the prank wars and the mycelium revolution. While grian himself did not start the prank war. He decides to escalate it to the point where a war could be fought over it, inviting a string of chaos that impacts others. And while the mycelium revolution Grian starts all by himself, he does so in order to not benefit himself but the change hermitcraft through another story. 

Grian’s relationship with rage is a bit more different in the context of the life series. Arguably this is Grian at his most passive but also at his most active. For 3rd life, Grian invites rage through Scar. By killing scar and aligning himself with him, Grian can use scar as a vessel for his brand of rage. Instead of being an active participant in the chaos and bloodshed, Grian is all doing it under the name of scar because scar is the red life. However, grian is directly responsible for inviting that change into the server by killing scar with the creeper, making him an active and passive participant in the resulting end of 3rd life. 

Scar

Scar is the Witch of Light. One that changes light or one that changes through light for themselves

Light is best described by the phrase fortune favors the bold. Luck. This idea of getting away with things against all odds. Light also represents a sense of relevance. An important figure in order to get the plot moving forward. One great example of this could be seen in Scar’s role during the mycelium resistance where Scar acts as the catalyst for the war to break out in the first place through his good fortune of becoming mayor. As a witch of light, Scar is able to change the course of luck for himself rather than for the benefit of others. Often this amounts to his more capitalistic nature like his endeavors with convex and season 8’s Offworld Escapes travel agency.

Scar is also a man who is just drenched in charisma and luck. Despite his many deaths and his unlucky streak of general untrustworthiness, he is still able to get people to buy what he is selling. He changes fortune to be on his side. I’d like to use last life and double life as an example of how he is able to talk his way out of being killed despite proving time and time again that his deals are typically not to be trusted. He is able to change light or in this case fortune to be in his favor.

Both Scar fortune and misfortune serve to benefit him in some way by changing the course of the story. During 3rd life, his first death by Grian may have seemed like a stroke of bad luck, however, it was this death that allowed for Scar to have a loyal partner up until the end of the series. The same goes for the loss of his second life, one might call that a misfortune but it provided the opportunity for scar to seek revenge against those he believed wronged him. This pattern of luck through misfortune seems to follow him through the rest of the life series.

Another thing to note is that the witch is the active counterpart to the heir making Scar and Grian's dynamic specifically in the life series to be so prominent. They both work together to create large-scale changes within the story of the first life smp, however, grian does it through scar in order to change the entire dynamic of the server, while Scar does it in service to himself.

Eethos Slahab & Foxdad

(Been practicing simplifying designs & did this to try out a Homestuck inspired style. It kinda walks the line between a few of the art styles used in comics, but I’m very happy with it! Also Foxdad no longer has antlers due to them being an absolute bitch to draw on an all white fox.)

good question! ill start off by saying that it certainly did the opposite of change my mind about my classpect for grian; the concept of limited life is, quite literally, the most witch of time lookin ahh game i have ever seen, so! that checks out. (witch of time)

realising that scott has basically won the life series three times in a row solidified his place as an active class in my head, but the means by which he does it somehow push me more towards passive? my brain says that the fact that he just kind of stays out of the way and grows stronger while nobody is paying attention to him is more bard-like than prince-like, but at the same time, i think he's less passive and more benevolent. if he wanted, he could have won three times in a row (which is insane), but he just thinks that isn't fun so. yeah! long explanation to say that i wavered but ultimately he's still the same. (prince of mind)

limlife tango (and most other tangos, if i'm being real) sort of teeters towards a mage of doom for me. he's very VERY sollux-coded, and while classpecting based on one really big personality trait that is interesting is fun, it's nice to look at the more accurate one, too. even disregarding the 'death' part of doom, the 'technology' aspect of it obviously makes sense to fit with tango. i love the guy dearly, but all of his final deaths seem to end up being inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, harming himself and himself alone (for the most part). also, he is an excellent vibe checker and fuller predicted martyn being a little garbage rat to win limlife, and i think it's an excellent situation where he took all of his prior experiences both with the death game and also with martyn being a menace and made this accurate prediction. this isn't the most thought out thing ever, but i definitely think tango As A Whole and not just The Tango That Gets Mad is very mage of doom coded. bigb did what i suggested he do in the classpecting post, which is stay a bit more low-key, and ill tell you this: he certainly survived for longer than he did in double life, that's for sure! also, being a nosy neighbour that just spies on people from a distance is very rogue of void-core- i'm sure you could argue seer, but. ehh. there certainly is an argument to be made for it, he does hold a lot of secrets to his chest, and he certainly did have a few in limlife...but i think most of the secrets he has are his own, not other people's. a rogue he stays! bdubs is one that i was already a bit ehhhhh on when i made the post. at this point in time, my brain is swaying me actually towards blummin light, which is deranged and i dont really know how to explain it. [imagine theres about a 15 minute pause between me writing these two sentences as i conduct a bit of research.] actually. hear me out: bdubs as a knight of light. i might actually change this for double life too (in my head, not for the au due to overlapping classpects). hes so light-coded, idk how i didn't see it before. goal-oriented…loves being in the spotlight…even the collecting knowledge aspect that i had pegged to him as a seer works better in assigning it to light. and the knight bit just feels right to me: doubts about his importance to the groups and teams he's been in and the people he's loved? getting a bit meta, you could even point out cc!bdubs saying that he's not posting his limlife pov because everything important that he did was seen in other people's episodes; his importance as a character has been defined by his effect on others. kinda love this. knight of light bdubs. letsgoooo (knight of light)

impulse deffo stays as a blood player, and im pretty sure his bard class stays, too. he made it to the end by riding off the promises he made with his team ("ties makes it to the final three!" T-T), and we must remember that bard also means destroying through blood. and his goofy ahh got betrayed AGAIN lmao (it was less 'betrayed' and more 'tricked,' but. same difference). (bard of blood)

martyn has, like grian, done the absolute OPPOSITE of changed. bro has CANONICAL SOUL FRACTURES THATS CRAZZYYYYYYYY LMAO. heart player (CANON + CONFIRMED). and no, him betraying scott does not take him out of the heart player faction: he defended scott with tooth and nail and blood until the end, him killing scott ONLY SO THAT HE COULD WIN is just furthering his damn arc in learning to fight for himself. he's still heart-coded as hell. irt the (trafficstuck art i made).. some thoughts :

i should clarify i'm ignoring name conventions and just yapping

bdubs!

as a human i think his signature color would be green, rather than red. i also believe bdubs and etho would have a 'balance each other out' type of relationship. one could compare it moirails (which are not exclusively platonic, i should say,) mostly due to how they equalize and also im including their marriage-divorce-marriage debacle. kind-of want to give him a stick specibus of some sort just to cuck him.

as a TROLL.. i considered making him a limeblood; not for anything super important other than the theory of that caste having a high emotional charge over others and he's just a beloved guy ykw.. in the art referenced he's an oliveblood due to being particularly capable but not inherently power-influenced. a hybrid might be the most appropriate position for him but i haven't decided!

etho!

as a troll i figure his presentation to be either be like a chameleon (e.g wearing colors not belonging to his respective class) or hemo-anonymous (wearing no clothes with sigil or indicative color) there's definitely a part of me that would consider him someone to end up being a helmsman (with the clockers) or mage (with team best originally) i think he ultimately is apathetic towards his position whichever way i put him. i'm not sure what the redstone equivalent would be in the hs universe but i see him as having the power to utilize telekinesis at least. ..someone with psionnics but can be difficult. maybe his sylladex should have sth to do w/ crafting or sand. ..i'm not sure how i feel about people drawing etho as a highblood.

as a HUMAN.. in the mini doodle included in the art i changed his design so his off eye is covered by a bang. (i don't think as a human he'd have a damaged eye, even tho his skin is kakashi) i altered his outfit to be more reserved versus the troll design which has some of his midsection exposed.

skizz! (oh boy)

as a troll.. i mentioned in the image that i made him purple rather than indigo. wanted to add a point saying he'd likely be an active slime consumer and would lash out in moments of sobriety (i'm just trying to reflect when skizz entered red and had mentioned smelling blood, and being typically more aggro, etc) he's also assigned purple to reflect his obsession w/ brotherhood (seen in team best) and/or companionship (his part in the dogwarts war) as far as indigo goes.. indigo would be fitting primarily cuz its often to being boiled down to 'strong person' but ALSO generally being loyal to the caste system. (unrelated to his blood, i think he'd have some kind of fisticuffs specibus)

as a HUMAN!! i actually haven't put too much thought into this. the way he hams up himself as a 'character' definitely seems more align w/ being a troll. alas. unnecessary thoughts.

tango!

as a human.. as said, i didn't draw a troll version of tango to respect that him drawn with horns bothers him a bit. think his outfit would be similar to jades, that being long sleeve shirt and skirt.. or maybe a labcoat. either or. think he'd have a interest in tech and would have some kind of annoying moustrap-type sylladex. (like the stupid board[?] game) i think he'd be.. maybe the most competent at understanding the game than everyone else. i also think he's petty. (said because of the 'team t' thing) i ALSO think he'd be the most likely to be turned into a sprite for the same reason in parenthesis.

as a TROLL.. it feels easy to make him a psionnic, lets be real. in team best at least it makes sense to me (bdubs w/ his respective gold partner and tango w/ his respective other partner ykw) i FEEEEEEL like he's best (har) as a low to mid blood caste.
