I miss when I was doing my bachelor of music and was studying socio-musicology which is so fucking interesting. Probably the best subject I've ever studied. I'm not very good at music but I'm thinking of abandoning my health admin degree and studying sociology so I can focus on society and pop culture because that interests me so fucking much.

one time when a popular tradskin band announced a concert in hungary (something that was nothing short of a miracle because good bands dont come here to play), the entire punk and skinhead subculture, nazis, anarchists and communists alike agreed on a one day truce for this comcert. obviously this wasnt a formal truce, nobody discussed anything, except some nazi skinheads knew some apolitical punks who knew some commie punks and everybody agreed to not cut anybodys laces for one night. prominent nazis and prominent left wing punk singers and musicians were carefully avoiding eachother in the crowd, people who had been getting into violent fights with each other just the day before

i was told this story by some older punks in my communiry, and depending on whos telling it its either regarded as a miracle of the biggest disgrace of the hungarian punk subcultures history. im inclined to agree with the latter. the reason nazi punks fuck off is a slogan that is neccedary still to this day, is because even political punks will consider the music aspect of the subculture to be above silly differences like fascists and antifascists

Early skinhead culture (like the 60s) is one of my special interests but I have to always be like "it started long before it was coopted by n*zis please bare with me" because f*scists ruined what was once a really vibrant and amazing subculture.

And it makes me look bad when I say I get autistic about skinheads because people just don't know the history and how it originally centred around ska and reggae. There's an entire subgenre of reggae from the 60s called skinhead reggae, and it was mainly Black Jamaicans cashing in on one of their biggest audiences by singing about stomping boots mostly. (Listen to Symarip, my favourite skinhead reggae group, and arguably the most well known, if you don't believe me).

Even into the 80s there were groups of skins who were into stuff like The Specials and The Beat, bands who were distinctly anti fascist and had Black members and Black influences. And it's so fucking interesting and now it's just ruined. There are 'tradskins' trying to revive the old culture but it's really a losing battle imho.

And now I'm getting really autistic about it. I can literally infodump about it for hours. And that's why I wanna go into sociology/history. Because of shit like this.
