La tinta de los papiros de Montserrat, a examen
Hemos comenzado el año con un proyecto apasionante: el análisis de las tintas de los papiros de la colección Roca Puig. Para tal fin se han desplazado a la Abadía de Montserrat los investigadores Tea Ghigo y Olivier Bonnerot, que trabajan en el equipo de Ira Rabin en el BAM de Berlin (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung) en colaboración con el proyecto PAThs de la Universidad de Roma la Sapienza de Roma.

El cometido principal de su estancia fue el análisis arqueométrico de las tintas aplicando la reflectografia infrarroja para distinguir las tintas a base de carbono de las tintas ferrogálicas. La espectrógrafía de rayos X, en un segundo paso, permite detectar los elementos químicos contenidos en estas tintas.

Uno se preguntará para qué sirve todo esto y cómo puede contribuir al estudio de documentos y libros antiguos. Pues bien, el análisis de tintas aporta una información muy valiosa que no teníamos hasta ahora y que se suma al conocimiento material proporcionados por la paleografía y la codicología, el estudio de formatos y otros aspectos materiales, con el fin de datar o de establecer el origen de los documentos, además de entender los procesos de producción escrita en la Antigüedad. Por otra parte, conocer con más seguridad y detalle la composición de las tintas en diferentes épocas y lugares puede ayudar a conectar fragmentos dispersos de los mismos manuscritos o incluso ser imprescindible para identificar falsos.
