--𐬿𝐀 𝐣𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟𝐞𝐫?𐬾--
Pairing: bsf!rafe x fem!y/n
Warning: language and man eyeing up y/n (but doesn’t go into detail).
Summary: just a normal day at the country club with the boys… right??
𐬼𐬿𐬾𐬿𐬼
Rafe had picked you up around midday, he and the guys were planning on going to head to the country club. And as your close with all three guys, they asked if you wanted to join.
You were all currently sat in the golf carts, Rafe was driving the one you were in. Topper and Kelce were in the golf cart behind you as they drive to the first hole.
You all chatted and drank while swinging your clubs and pitting balls, when later as you were on your fifth hole. Top glances around and noticed a guy look your way.
“Hey Y/n/n, you know that guy??”
He used the hand that held his beer to subtly point to the guy.
You shook your head “never seen him before, why?”
“He keeps on looking over here.”
Rafe stopped his swing when he heard Topper say that. His head quickly turned in the direction you looked in. Rafe scoffed when he saw another golfer guy, probably two or three years older than you all.
You stood in between Kelce and Topper, seeing as the guys eyes wouldn’t leave you.
As Rafe finished his swing, it was your turn.
Rafe handed you the club, your fingers brushed momentarily. He gave you a small smile “go ahead, all yours, princess” you flashed him a smile “thanks, doubt it will be as good of a swing yours was” you laugh. Rafe smirked “come on now, don’t say that, ok… maybe not as good as me, but you’ll do fine” you laugh at his joke.
Rafe stood next to Topper and Kelce. As you aim the club and stand in position; Kelce muttered “that dude really isn’t fucking taking his eyes off her, huh?”.
Rafe glanced between you and the guy. He’s already had enough, but for the guy to blatantly eye you up?? Nah, Rafe was pissed.
Rafe glanced back to you and thought of an idea. “Hey doll, you’re doing that wrong… lemme show you..” you weren’t doing anything wrong, in fact Rafe would go as far to say that your the best at golf that he knew, as a girl.
Rafe walked over and stood behind you. Kelce and Top grinned to each other, knowing Rafe would get like this, especially with you.
Rafe glanced back at the guy one last time and smirked. He looked back down to you, he placed his hands on your hips and guided you to take one step back. His chest is pressed to your back as his larger strong hands go over your smaller hands. He rested his chin on your shoulder and guided your moments to show you how to swing it. “Then when you hit the ball-” “Rafe I know what I’m-” “just fucking listen, yeah?” You playfully roll your eyes. You’re so used to this by now. He grinned “oh come on now, you’re good, but I can make you better.”
Rafe looks over his shoulder to see the guy is still looking, but more pissed off. Rafe knew he’d got to him. Rafe stood up straight and walked back over to Topper and Kelce “go ahead, doll, show us what I just taught you…” you aimed then swung the club and twist your hip. Making the ball go higher and further than last time. You smile to yourself, Kelce spoke “damn, didn’t know Rafe could be the tutor type” the boys all chuckled as you smile. You hand the club to Kelce as it was his turn.
You stood in between Rafe and Topper. But that all changed when Rafe placed a hand on your hip and stood you in front of him. You didn’t bother to protest as you knew it was just him being himself. But also because you liked it. Rafe was protective, but he knew you could handle yourself. So he’d only do subtly hints to guys that looked too long or tried anything with you. As he’s only your friend.
Rafe rested his chin on the top of your head “Hey, princess?” “Yeah?” “You still coming to that party tonight?” “Of course”
He smirked.
“If you want, you can drive your car over and park it in the garage, Rose and Wheezie are out and won’t be home till Monday” you hum “alright, if it’s alright with Ward..” “of course it is, you know he likes you” you chuckle, of course he does, you dad and Ward were good friends.
“If you want you can stay the night too, you won’t be able to drive home, I know how you can get with a good party”
You laugh, he smiles.
“Alright, but you better not take the covers again, left me in the cold”
“Hmm I’ll try my hardest, no promises though..”
“I’ll kick you”
“And you know I won’t feel it, I’m a deep sleeper”
“Touché”
Rafe and yourself were not shy to sleepovers. You grew up together, some would say attended to the hip. You knew TannyHill like the back of your hand, same goes both ways. Rafe would always let you sleepover when you wanted. And same went the other way too. It was never awkward between you both, and never will be.
Rafe glances over to the guy as he drives the golf cart to the next hole.
He curses under his breath, of course the guy had slowed down and is now on the same hole as them.
As you stood and waited for Topper to take his swing, you stood by Rafe. Once again, same as usual, hand on your hip. The back of your neck started to heat up as the sun beamed over you all.
You reached for your pocket then realise, you have none. You wore your golfing skirt, and it didn’t have pockets. You look to your wrists and see you had forgotten to put a hair tie on at least one of your wrists. Rafe noticed “looking for something?” “Yeah a hair tie” “here.” He stuck his left wrist out, there was one of your many hair ties. “Oh so you’re stealing my hair ties, huh?” “No? Just for emergency, like today”
You hum and take the hair tie, taking your Nike visor hat off. You hold the hat between your knees as you gently pull your hair into a pony tail. You put your visor hat back on.
Rafe smiled, he glanced over to see the guy was close enough to be in ear shot range. Rafe spoke “hey princess, you wanna grab food sometime? You free on Tuesday?” You smile and nod “yeah, I’m free and I’ll go grab some food with you.” Rafe spoke a little louder “call it a date..” you rolled your eyes at his obvious (to you) hint to annoy the guy. You playfully roll your eyes with a smirk “whatever you say, Cameron!” You then walked over and got ready for your turn to swing the club.
God, he doesn’t know what came over him. But seeing a guy get jealous over you, even if you weren’t dating. It made him glad that people can think that you both were dating… maybe he wanted that? Or maybe it’s all getting to his head? He’s not sure himself… but would probably pick the first option….
Have a good day/night all!!🫶🫶

Rafe Cameron x Kook!Reader
Warnings - Angst. Some fluff. Drug, alcohol and addict behaviour.
Your lifelong friendship with Rafe started to break slowly, but when he learns that you are leaving, it hits breaking point.
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-**-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
You spent as much time at the Cameron's as you did your own home, if not more. Your family lived next door, having moved there when you were young. Being neighbours meant growing up closely together and having Rafe Cameron as a best friend was a rollercoaster.
From the moment you first met Rafe, he adored you. The little blue-eyed boy with a wicked smile didn't know what hit him, literally. One minute, he was pulling your hair, and the next, you were punching him in the stomach. When questioned what happened, neither ratted the other out. It was you and Rafe against the world.
As you grew, you were always there for each other. He was there for you when Hank Harrison broke your heart and you were there for him when his mother left, leaving behind a broken Rafe, a small Sarah and baby Wheezie.
Your lives were tangled and waver together so tightly that you never thought it would break.
It started to fray after senior year. With the pressure of the future, you noticed a change in Rafe.
He had always loved partying hard, the girls and the booze, but no matter how far he took it, it never affected his daily life or how he treated you. You were his VIP guest to every party. It wasn't until he met Barry and a friend in the form of white powder that you had your first small fight.
You had been dancing with Sarah most of the night, having a good time until you became tired. You found Rafe surrounded by people, some you knew like Topper and Kelce but others you didn't. He was trying to convince Topper to take his first bump.
"Rafe," you called over the pounding music. He frowned before giving you a lopsided smile and pulling you into his lap, earning a few glares from the girls sitting around him.
"There's my girl." He grinned and wrapped you in his arms. "I missed you,"
With you, he didn't care if people saw him soft. You were his sweet other half. You brought out the softer side in him. He never admitted it to you, but he was sure he had loved you since the age of 5.
"I have been here all night," you said softly, seeing his pupils blown so wide, broke your heart a little. "I was coming to say goodbye,"
"Goodbye?" He frowned as you ran your hand through his hair, making him sigh. "The party's just started,"
"It's 3am."
"Stay, have some of the good stuff." He offered you a sip of his beer before grabbing a rolled up bill for you.
"Rafe, I don't want that,"
He groaned and loosened his grip on you, rolling his eyes and throwing his head back "Don't be so fucking boring"
"Good night, Rafe," you whispered, moving out of his lap and heading for the door. You heard him calling after you, but you didn't go back.

The next slightly bigger argument you had was when you and Wheezie found him, drunk and high in the kitchen. You had been over to help Wheeze with her French homework. Being completely flunt, you were the best person to help.
You had gone to the kitchen for snacks, finding Rafe stumbling, slamming cabinet doors as he muttered away to himself. Something about hidden money, that his dad must have a stash hidden in the kitchen.
Ward had stashes in every room of the house, and you were sure of it but never thought of looking into the theory.
"Rafe?" Wheezie asked softly. He span around to her and sighed.
"Have you seen any of the money, dad hides?" He asked but Wheeze shook her head "Fuck"
"Why do you need it?"
"Cause, I fucked up Wheeze" He groaned "I fucked up big time!" He took a swig of the open whiskey bottle from the counter top before offering her some.
"Did you really just offer me, booze?" Wheezie frowned. "I'm 13"
"Shit, god. I'm sorry, Wheeze." He covered his eyes with his hands and groaned again. "I'm so fucked, but I'm gonna fix it"
"Go upstairs, Wheeze. I'll be up in a minute. " You fixed one of her braids, and you watched as she hurried up the stairs before turning back to Rafe.
"What you do this time?" You asked, arms folded as he looked over at you. It was like he had just noticed you were there.
"Why does it have to be something I did?" He asked, frowning as he took a drink again
"Is it Barry again?"
He laughed "No it's not fucking Barry. Just get off my case"
"Rafe, you just told your 13 year old sister, that you need money and offered her whiskey" You pointed out "Now tell me what the fuck the problem is"
He looked you up and down. "My sister. Exactly. It's a family problem. Don't worry yourself over something that isn't your business"
You tried not to take it to heart. He was hiding the fact that he was in trouble by cutting you out. It wasn't the first time he'd been in debt to Barry, but it was the first time he didn't admit it to you.
"Rafe" Wheezie whispered from the door way. She had a small bundle of dollar bills in her hand "Will this help? It's all I've got for now"
She received a small allowance from Ward, something all the Cameron kids had. Being the youngest, she didn't get as much, but she saved it all, claiming she wanted to buy her own first car.
"Shit," Rafe muttered as he suddenly broke down in front of you both.
You hurried over to him and cradled his head to your chest as he sobbed. Poor Wheezie stood helpless as she watched her big brother crumble in your arms.
Later, you found out that all the money Rafe paid Barry back had been stolen by Sarah. You hoped that day would be a wake-up call to make him stop, but it only got worse.
▪︎•▪︎•▪︎•▪︎
You hadn't seen Rafe for a few weeks when you sat in the Cameron's kitchen, munching grapes as you sat on the kitchen island, speaking to Rose as she made a pot of coffee.
"I'm so proud of you." She smiled. "I can't believe our girl is going to Paris!"
You smiled back. You had come round to pick up Sarah for a shopping spree and told Rose the news that you had been accepted to a collage in Paris.
"I can't believe it either." You popped a grape in your mouth. "I honestly didn't think I would get in."
"Of course you would. I mean, look at you. They would have been stupid, not too. "
"Not to, what?" Rafe stumbled into the kitchen, his hair messy from sleep as he wore only sweatpants, he smelt strongly of the night before and had a light sweat on his brow, clearing in the middle of a come down.
"Not accept her to their collage." Rose smiled as the kettle boiled.
Rafe nodded and grunted as he grabbed a cup before he paused. "Collage? What fucking collage?"
You had told him a million times that your dream was to go to Paris. Collage was the perfect way to have the chance to live there.
"Paris," Rose answered, slightly oblivious to the tension building in the room. You flinched as Rafe dropped his cup down, harder than needed on the side.
"Paris?"
"Yes, Rafe. Paris, " You muttered. It was meant to be the most exciting news to share with him, but with the way things had been, you hadn't got the chance.
He stared at you as you stared back. He was waiting for the punch line. It had to be a joke. You were leaving him.
"Rose? Have you seen my white Converse?" Wheezie asked as she entered the kitchen before looking between you and Rafe.
"No, honey. Maybe in the sunroom?" Rose suggested before going to look with her.
"Fucking Paris?" Rafe frowned
"Yes, Rafe fucking Paris" You said back, in a even tone.
"So you were just going to up and leave me?"
"No, I told you about this before. Not that I'd been accepted, but I've been wanting to go all year"
Soon, you were yelling at each other so loudly everyone in the house could hear.
"Just fuck off to Paris, then!" He yelled "I don't fucking need you anymore! Always dragging me down!"
"Oh, I'm planning too!" You snapped back. "Sorry to have been such a downer. I'll be gone in no time!"
"Good! I'll be fucking free!"
"So free! Have fun fucking the girl you have up stairs!"
"Wow. Jealous?!"
"Nothing to be jealous of," you said calmly. You never insulted him back before. Normally ending the arguments quickly but this time you were done "Just a drunk, drugged up dickhead"
He stared at you, "Fuck off" He muttered
"That's the plan." You didn't want to leave him behind, but you needed to go after your own future.
"Ready to go?" Sarah asked, looking between you. The looks you were throwing it each were deadly.
"Yeah. I'm done here." You pushed yourself off the island and left Rafe to watch you go, smashing the cup against the countertop after you left.
▪︎•▪︎•▪︎•▪︎•▪︎
You checked your passport, ticket, and flight number three times as you stood with your family and the Camerons, minus Rafe. Everyone hugged you goodbye. You subconsciously glanced around as you had the heavy feeling of something missing.
"You don't need him here," Sarah said softly as she pulled back from a long hug. "I'm sorry, I know you want him here. But you don't need him."
You nodded, knowing she was right. You didn't need the Rafe you'd seen recently, but part of you wished you had your Rafe there.
The one who gave your first kiss when you were worried you would never get one. The one who snuck into your room with your favourite ice cream after punching Hank Harrison and spent hours holding you. The one who checked in on you at parties. The one who took you to prom, claiming he was the only date worthy of you. You knew he'd threatened anyone who tried asking you, but at the time, you didn't care. You had your Rafe.
After a long goodbye and a final call for your flight, you made your way to the gate when you heard him calling your name over the sound of the music in your earphones.
You frowned, turning around slowly as Rafe Cameron ran towards you. He was completely out of breath when he made it to you, but he looked different.
His eyes were clearer, those gorgeous ocean blue again. He smelt of his cologne and not of the night before.
"Don't you dare tell me not to go." As a part of you was happy to see him, another was worried.
He shook his head and gently grabbed your arms. "No, no. I would never"
You raised an eyebrow at him. "I'm going to miss my flight."
"I'll make it quick. I promise." He moved his hands to your cheeks when you didn't move away from his touch.
"What is it?"
"I couldn't let you go without saying goodbye," He whispered before slowly moving closer to you. "I'm so sorry, baby."
You sighed softly and nodded. Your heart rapidly beating in your chest.
"I have to go," you whispered, but you made no move to leave as they announced your flight again.
"I know, I know." He breathed as his lips made contact with yours.
You whimpered against him, unable to control it before deepening the kiss. The airline announcing they were on last check-in broke you apart.
"I love you," He whispered against your lips
"I know, I know." You breathed, pulled back. "I love you too."
"Go on, baby." He smiled, nodding towards your gate as the last few people walked through the doors.
You gave him a quick kiss again before hurrying away. Leaving him to watch you go with a smile on his face.
Just as you were setting your phone to airplane mode, you received a message:
'I'm getting clean. I mean it this time. I love you, I'm sorry I didn't say it before. I promise you, baby. I'll see you in week' Rafe sent a picture of a plane ticket he just purchased.

𖤓Crossing the Divide𖤓
𖤓Part 1𖤓
Paring: Rafe Cameron x fem!pouge!reader
Warnings: Cussing, suggestive I think
Your little beach house cabin was around the warf, it was a 30 drive from your job. Inconvenient, but you had to get money anyhow. You had no one to pay the rent for you, and no one to pay your college funds. You used to tutor, but all the younger kids had grown up, and the kids who struggled with school either dropped out of school or their parents pulled them out due to signs of no progress. You had been living off of the 3,000 dollars you got for a year. Not much, but just enough if you were mindful about how it was spent.
The sun had almost set and a black Cadillac was trailing you for about 6 minutes; slowing down when you slowed down, stopping when you stopped, and sped up when you did. You stopped and got off your bike. You knew wearing incredibly short denim shorts would get you in trouble, but you’d thought you’d be home before dark.
The driver seat window rolled down, a familiar voice shouted,”Hey doll face! Why’d you stop?” The door opens and Rafe Cameron stepped out. He had to be the most entitled kook you knew, after Topper and Kelce of course.
But he was the most dangerous. A killer. A criminal, so you chose your words carefully.
You cleared your throat,”I just felt uncomfortable, Mr. Cameron.” Too formal.
He chuckled,”Mr. Cameron? Are you a business partner, doll face?” He walked closer to you, with his hands behind your back. His face inched closer to yours,”Come on, answer my fucking question, doll face.”
You crossed your arms and put the shield of your helmet up,”Stop calling me doll face!”
He backed up with a sly smile on his face,”Alright, dollie. You like that better?”
You rolled your eyes and huffed,”I don’t have time for this.” You turned around and walked back to your motorbike.
He roughly pulled you back,”Dollie, I see you got a packa cigarettes on you. Care to share?”
You didn’t even look at him,”No.”
He sighed,”You leave me no choice, dollie.” He yanked you cigarettes and lighter from your pocket, he held them in the air.
You tried reaching for them. It’s not like you were short, you were 5’11, and he was 6’2.
You whined,”Rafe! Give them back!”
He shook his head, lit a cigarette and put it in his mouth,”Nuh uh sweet thing.” You gave up and were about to turn around, but he stopped you,”You wanna sit for a while? You’re not like the typa pouge I usually see.”
You take your helmet off and put hung it on your motorbike. You had already parked on a sidewalk, so you were good.
You nodded,”Sure.” Bad idea. It’s Rafe Fucking Cameron. A killer. A criminal. An unsettling feel was looming in your stomach.
He passed you the blunt as he walked you to a bench,”Perfect.” He put his leather jacket in your hands,”You cold? It’s kinda windy.”
You felt cheeks heat up. Stop it, you told yourself. You snorted,”Since when were you caring?” You put the jacket on.
He lit a cigarette for himself, taking a few puffs before answering,”Since a few minutes ago, doll face. I like that nickname better.”
You nodded,”Ok.” You both sat in silence for a few minutes, then you broke it,”I can’t pay for college.” Dumb idea.
He took like 6 long drags, then answered,”Oh. You’re going to college.”
You sighed,”I’m not Kook royalty, Rafe. I have to work.”
He put his head back,”Yeah. Do you need help?”
You took the cigarette out of your mouth, and bit your lip. The pouges would verbally kill you for accepting help from Rafe Cameron, especially Kiara and Sarah. But what they don’t know won’t hurt them. Right?
“Sure.”
He looked at you, smirking,”It’ll cost ya’, doll face.”
You looked at him, locking eyes,”What?”
He kissed his teeth,”Everything comes with a price,” he played with your hoop earrings,”In your case, lemme doll you up. Show you off. No one knows you in the first place. You’re my intelligent personal assistant.”
You blink a few times,”Am I doing any real work?”
He held your face up with your chin, observing you,”’Course. You’re smart aren’t ya?” You nodded,”You’ll plan out some things, you don’t need to know. You’re too much of an angel. I needa save some of that innocence.”
You looked away. Were you really doing this? Risking your friendships just to get into college?
You nodded again,”I’m in.”
>>>
“You did what!” Sarah and Kiara yelled in unison.
You looked down,”I’m working for Rafe now. I need to get out of this place.”
Pope scoffed,”So you’re risking your friendships to go to college. I wanna to go college too, but I wouldn’t do that.”
Your eyes started to water, your nails dug into your palms,”I know.”
John B sighed,”Do you even know what that bitch did? He killed people, shot his own sister, stole gold, and jumped me n’ Pope.”
John B stood up to pat your shoulder,”You’re playing a dangerous game. It’s your funeral. You can’t pull out of the deal now, or you’ll owe ‘im.”
You looked up,”I just need to get out of Kildare. I’m risking it all, I know. And y’all are the best people to come into my life-“ your voice cracked up,”I need to do this.” Before you knew it, you let go. Tears started rolling down your face one by one. You covered your mouth, muffling your sobs.
Sarah and Kiara were the first people to give you a hug. JJ went in, then John B, then Pope.
“Do what you gotta do. But just know, if he does anything. We told you so.” JJ said in matter-of-fact tone.
You smiled, wiping your tears,”Ok.”

summary: Manipulated into a secret relationship with Rafe Cameron, you’re finding it much easier said than done to do the right thing and walk away…especially when he refuses to let you.
~
“You want to hear something funny?”
That should’ve been your first clue that you were about to hear something that was indeed, not funny. Your dad had a familiar look on his face as he stood in the kitchen, but funnily enough, it was a look you’d only ever seen directed at Pope. You paused in your chewing, nervously watching him as he crossed his arms over his chest.
“I ran into Ward Cameron today…”
If at all possible, you felt your stomach drop straight to the floor. You were sure your feelings were reflected on your face, and in all this time you went along with Rafe’s lie, you never thought of what you would do if your dad and Ward ran into each other…and started talking. You struggled to swallow, licking your lips.
“Dad-.”
“I mentioned all of this so called ‘tutoring’ that you’ve been doing for his daughter, and you know what? He had no idea what I was talking about.”
You pressed your lips together, guilt and shame eating away at you as he just stared at you in disappointment. That was worse than him yelling, and the silence in the kitchen was loud.
“So, now, I have a question for you,” he mused. “Just what have you been doing and where have you been these past few months? Hmm?”
It’s not like you could very well tell him you’d been sneaking around with and sleeping with Rafe Cameron. That just wasn’t going to happen, and so you decided for a half-truth instead.
“With Cam and Bunny,” you sighed.
“Those two little rich girls you went to school with?” he looked so confused. “…and just what have you been doing with them that you had to lie about it?”
“Nothing! We just hang out sometimes. In the pool, eating, watching movies that kind of stuff,” you explained. “…and because Cam is dating Kelce, sometimes Topper and Rafe are there. Rafe drives me home, sometimes.”
You watched the older man heave a tired sigh, rubbing his forehead as he moved to sit down across from you. He fixed you with a look, and you continued.
“I like hanging out with them,” you told him. “…and I hate being the only one who has to leave early because of a curfew. Especially when I’m tired, and I’d rather just sleep over at my friend’s house or something.”
He was quiet, contemplating, and so you just decided to do the right thing.
“I’m sorry,” you eventually said. “I know I shouldn’t have lied, but it seemed like the only way you’d let me stay out so late or stay over at a friend’s. Pope doesn’t have a curfew, at all.”
“Pope earned that.”
You grew silent at that, withering under his disappointed stare.
“…and he earned it by following our rules and not lying to us.”
“I know,” you whispered.
“You know you’re grounded, right?”
You expected it, but it still sucked to hear.
“For two weeks.”
That really sucked to hear.
“You could’ve just been honest, you know. We could’ve talked, come to some kind of understanding, but instead you decided to be sneaky…”
“I know.”
He stood, the chair scraping, and you swallowed.
“…and the fact that you got the Cameron boy to lie for you.”
He was shaking his head when you looked up.
“Two weeks…and after that, we’re going to reevaluate some things, but you can expect to give us some kind of itinerary for what you’re doing and where you’ll be every day.”
You watched him go, and you let your head fall when he was gone. You shouldn’t have been surprised that that lie came back to bite you in the ass, and as if he sensed your new lack of freedom, your phone went off, unsurprised to see Rafe’s name. Appetite gone, you got rid of your dish, making your way to your room and bringing your phone to your ear.
“Whatever you have planned, you’ll have to forget about it,” was how you greeted him. “I’m grounded.”
“Grounded?” Rafe replied. “Why?”
“My dad ran into your dad…”
You let your words stew in the air for a moment, and Rafe’s soft sigh told you that he understood exactly what had happened. He didn’t respond right away, and for a second, you feared he just wouldn’t. Since the other night, Rafe had been acting weird, quieter, less easy to read. That very next morning, when you’d kissed him, you’d noticed it then, and you had pulled away, curiously eyeing him.
“You okay?” you had softly asked, and Rafe had just looked at you for a moment before throwing you a crooked smile.
“Yeah. Why wouldn’t I be?”
You hadn’t had much of an answer to that, not wanting to remind him of your little fight the night before. Sure, you’d called him back as soon as you got inside your room, but like clockwork, apologies had been falling from his lips, telling you he was going to do better. You’d both seemingly put it behind you, but that didn’t necessarily mean it was. Still, Rafe hadn’t talked on it anymore, and you let it go.
It didn’t change the fact that something was off though. You could just tell.
“For how long?” he finally asked.
“Two weeks.”
While technically, yes, you were an adult, it was less than six months ago when you needed permission just to leave the classroom. Your parents would lose their minds if you decided you just weren’t going to listen to them anymore and considering that decision would no doubt have to come with a new roof too, you decided to just suck it up.
“Well, I guess I’ll be sneaking into your room a lot more often in the next fourteen days.”
You both chuckled at that, and you sat down.
“I guess so,” you said. “I should’ve known it would catch up to me, and now…they’re going to be even stricter than they were before.”
“Shame, really,” Rafe murmured. “I was thinking about taking you out on my boat.”
You perked up at that.
In all the time you’d been dating Rafe, he hadn’t taken you on it. It wasn’t like you had this burning desire to go on it, but with mentions of it, you’d definitely entertained the thought. Rafe had even brought it up once before, but considering the secrecy of your relationship, you were sure at least a few people would see you climbing aboard and sailing off with him.
“Not if we go out at night,” he’d replied. “…and come back at night.”
It had appealed to you, and Rafe had mentioned going when the weather was perfect. It had only been in passing, but your chest bloomed with the prospect of actually going, now.
“Really?” you said, laying down. “Now, you decide is the perfect time when I’m grounded?”
“They’ll expect you to be in your room most of your sentence, anyway, right?” he teased, and you rolled your eyes.
God knows it was risky, but truthfully, getting grounded for an extra two weeks or so would be worth spending a night or two on Rafe’s boat with him. Especially when every night of those two weeks would consist of Rafe sneaking into your room.
“I’ll have to think about it,” you teased, and Rafe softly laughed.
You both knew your answer, but he played along, finally hanging up after promising to come over tomorrow night.
Being grounded meant that if you needed to leave the house, then Pope was going with you. It meant going out and coming straight back, and as annoying as it was, it was better than not leaving the house, at all. On this particular day, Sarah and JJ tagged along too, waiting in the vehicle while you quickly browsed the aisles.
The last person you expected to run into was Topper, and without Pope breathing down your neck, you sent the blond a friendly smile.
“Hey.”
His response was even, cold even, and you frowned in confusion as he brushed past you. Funnily enough, you would say you were friends, something you never thought you’d think about Topper Thornton. So, his reception was mind-boggling, and you turned to stare after him. You started to say something, but Topper was pretty determined in getting as far away from you as possible.
You frowned at his back as he walked away, and forcing yourself not to linger on what that was about, you decided to finish getting what you needed. Pope was just as irritated about having to drive you around, rushing you as soon as you were back in sight.
“We saw Topper come out of there not long before you did,” Sarah commented as soon as you buckled up. “You didn’t run into him, did you?”
You hadn’t quite had the opportunity to tell Sarah that she was completely wrong about you and Topper, and now certainly wasn’t the time. Besides, you didn’t know if you could call what had happened ‘running into him’, so you sort of lied and told her no. You could feel her eyes on you as you looked out of the window, too deep in thought about what that could’ve been about.
It was only when Pope dropped you off back at home did it finally occur to you.
“Hey,” you softly started hours later when Rafe had snuck in through your window. “Did you…did you say anything to Topper?”
He was propped up on his elbow, gazing at you as you played with his shirt. As the question left your lips, you looked up at him, meeting his blue gaze.
“I told him about us,” you continued. “…and I told him it was alright to bring it up with you, and I just assumed he had.”
Despite the fact that Rafe hadn’t brought it up, and neither did you, there seemed to be something unspoken in the air that he knew you’d talked with Topper. Your boyfriend shifted, and you intently watched him.
“Nothing crazy,” he told you, and you frowned. “Just cleared the air, made sure he understands how I feel about you.”
You let out a light chuckle, but it wasn’t exactly humorous.
“…but now he won’t even look at me. He barely talked to me when I ran into him at the store.”
Rafe shrugged, fingers dipping under your shirt, and your eyes slightly narrowed.
“You did…didn’t you?”
Rafe sighed, letting out a bitter chuckle, and you sat up, forcing him to too.
“Since when do you care about Topper?” he harshly questioned, and you shook your head.
“Since he’s damn near terrified of even talking to me, now,” you scoffed. “He’s kind of my friend too, you know, or at least, he was.”
“Really,” Rafe dryly commented, resting his arms on his knees as he stared you down. “Since when?”
“Oh, I don’t know, maybe since your friends started hanging out with my friends. Or maybe since Cam and Kelce started dating. Or better yet, maybe when we started dating and I was forced to be around him half as much as I’m around you.”
Rafe nodded, looking away.
“You seem really invested in someone you know through me.”
You didn’t even know how to react to that, pressing our lips together and shaking your head.
“That’s not even the point,” you harshly whispered. “He was practically tripping over himself just to get away from me, and you think that’s okay?”
Rafe didn’t respond, and you continued.
“Random guys at parties are one thing, but Topper is your best friend. I thought that these trust issues were with the so-called creepy guys, but now I’m starting to see there’s a common denominator, here, and it’s me,” you defeatedly told him. “Clearly, the lack of trust is with me.”
Rafe finally heaved a sigh, moving to face you and reaching for you.
“That’s not true…”
“It has to be!”
You snapped your mouth shut, listening to make sure you hadn’t woken anyone up before continuing, quieter this time.
“I don’t even need to know what you said to him to know that it was probably really shitty and messed up,” you hissed. “This can’t be our whole relationship. It can’t, Rafe.”
You stood, and so did he. You watched him run his hands down his face, slowly approaching you and reaching for you again. You were too annoyed to move, unintentionally letting him, and Rafe pulled you closer.
“I just told him what you mean to me,” Rafe gently told you. “Maybe Topper just doesn’t think it’s right to be so friendly with you, now.”
You eyed him.
“Be serious, please.”
“I don’t have to tell you what we talked about, that’s between me and Top, but if you think I went around threatening my best friend or something, you’re wrong,” he said, continuing when you sighed. “I’m serious. He knows you’re my girlfriend, now, and that’s just probably all he sees you as.”
You didn’t really believe Rafe, but you didn’t have much choice, at the moment. You weren’t stupid. You knew he said something to Topper that went beyond just how he felt about you, and this was one of those moments where you found yourself reevaluating your relationship. Since the night of that party, you’d known something was off, and you felt stupid for not immediately guessing Rafe’s jealousy.
Of course, it was Rafe’s jealousy.
The energy to be mad, to care, didn’t even stay with you for long. You were grounded, and the highlight of this prison sentence was sneaking around with Rafe, and you didn’t want to spend your now limited time together fighting. You moved by him without saying another word, feeling his eyes on you as you laid back down.
He was lying. You knew he was lying, and for some reason, that made you want to cry. Rafe said he loved you. He’d looked you in the eyes and told you that he loved you, but the lack of trust said otherwise. Was Rafe really that insecure? Or did he just think that low of you? You heard him call your name, but you pretended not to hear, closing your eyes.
You knew that this needed to be nipped in the bud for good, but you were too disappointed to go there, now. Rafe had told you he was going to be better about his jealousy, and maybe he had meant it at the time, but his intentions then didn’t really matter all that much, now. Night ruined, you just wanted to go to sleep, uncaring about what Rafe chose to do.
You were quiet as you looked out over the water, the ocean breeze ruffling Rafe’s shirt against your thighs. You were finally on his boat, experiencing what should’ve been a romantic break for you both, but it was soured by the cloud hanging over your heads. It had taken more money that you wanted to give and more begging than you’d anticipated to convince Pope to cover for you, under the impression you just wanted to spend a night or two at Bunny’s.
He'd have a stroke if he knew the truth.
The morning after you’d gone to bed angry and disappointed, Rafe had been there, waking you up with a plethora of “I’m sorry”s as he peppered kisses along your face. You hadn’t been in the most forgiving mood, but when Rafe wanted to be sweet, he was the sweetest, and against your will, he’d worn you down. You still wanted to know just what he said to Topper, but you’d forced yourself to let it go.
Temporarily, anyway.
Now, though, alone on his boat, it was glaring more than ever that your less than perfect relationship probably deserved a more serious label than that. It wasn’t just less than perfect. It was troubled because Rafe was troubled, and you were starting to worry that until he wasn’t, your relationship wouldn’t be either.
You felt like your mood was noticeable. Even as excited as you’d been when Rafe snuck you out, and as enthusiastic as you’d been when he’d decided to christen the bedroom below deck, you were pretty sure your dampened spirit was obvious. You looked over your shoulder as Rafe came back up, nursing a drink, and you thought to yourself that it was better than coke.
“It’s so much prettier up here,” you told him, reaching for him.
He made his way closer, and you didn’t miss the way he swayed slightly. You frowned a bit at that, but brushed it off, looking back out towards the ocean. The sun was setting, and it made for a perfect view, and you leaned back as Rafe wrapped an arm around you. You were a decent ways off the coast with no chance of any familiar boats passing by, and you heard Rafe take another sip before dipping his head down.
“I fucked up.”
He murmured the words into your skin, and you closed your eyes.
“I…I may have told Topper some not so nice things.”
You sighed, both proud and disappointed as he admitted the truth. You could smell the alcohol on his breath as he breathed, and you really didn’t know what to say.
“You don’t get it,” he choked out.
You were moving away before he was even done, and he reached for you. When you looked at him, his blue eyes were glassy, and he opened and closed his mouth, struggling to voice his thoughts.
“You never saw the way he looked at you before he knew about us,” he confessed, and you resisted the urge to roll your eyes. “He liked to look…a lot, and if he and Bunny hadn’t…”
Rafe trailed off, waving his hand as he allowed your mind to fill in the blanks that his apparently already had. You didn’t even know what to say to that, frowning at him and shaking your head.
“He’s your best friend, Rafe.”
“I know…”
“…and he didn’t know! Now, he’s terrified of even breathing in my direction,” you scoffed. “Is that how you plan to navigate the rest of this relationship?”
“I messed up, okay?”
He sniffed, and you turned away, moving to stand near the steps, away from him. You could feel his eyes on you, and when you looked up, Rafe’s gaze was pleading.
“He’s your best friend,” you reminded him. “You shouldn’t treat him like some horny creep off the street.”
Rafe didn’t say anything to that.
“He knows about us, now, and he knows what I mean to you, so don’t you think you should apologize?”
Rafe simply stared at you as you said that, and you watched him down the rest of his drink. He didn’t speak for a while, and for a moment, you were convinced that he was going to agree.
“Why are you so concerned with Topper?”
“…because he’s your friend, and I think what you did was pretty shitty,” you said like it was obvious.
Rafe nodded at that, pulling his lip between his teeth as he did.
“Look, I saw that he was kind of into you, and I just made it clear I wasn’t going to sit back and watch that, anymore, okay?” you watched him move to pour another drink. “…but maybe you actually liked that.”
He said that last part more to himself, but you heard him all the same. Your face pinched into a frown, and you stared at him.
“Excuse me?”
He took another sip, and you shook your head, walking towards him.
“Ok, clearly, you’ve had more than enough.”
You chuckled, trying to make light of the suddenly tense atmosphere, but Rafe pulled his hand away as you reached for his drink. The look he gave you was cold, and his blue eyes looked between yours.
“I mean, you tell me you want to walk home…but you take a ride from Topper with no problem.”
You froze at that, stomach sinking in disbelief, and you just…stared at him. You felt like you’d just been slapped, unable to believe that Rafe was bringing up something you didn’t even realize was an issue. You’d thought the jealousy was like every other time, merely hating the thought of any guy talking to you, but all of this stemmed from an innocent ride home? This was what had been festering for days?
You let out a light laugh, but Rafe didn’t return it, his expression didn’t even shift.
“Rafe…you can’t be serious.”
“I went back to the party for you,” he spat, shocking you. “I gave you some time to cool off, and when I went back to get you, you were gone.”
He downed the rest of his drink, slamming the glass down, and you jumped at the sound of breaking glass.
“…because you were too busy getting a ride home with Topper.”
You genuinely couldn’t believe this was happening.
“You didn’t hesitate to tell me you weren’t going anywhere with me,” Rafe angrily slurred. “…but you hopped into his car with no hesitation.”
“…and you want me to feel bad about that?” you asked, in disbelief.
“Did you fuck him?”
The question stumped you so much that your jaw actually dropped, and your frown deepened as Rafe stepped closer, any humor left officially gone from the conversation.
“Are you crazy?” you breathed.
“Did you fuck him?” he slowly repeated, and you moved away from him.
“What kind of question is that-?”
“One you still haven’t answered!”
“…because I thought the answer would be obvious,” you spat. “No!”
You watched Rafe run his hands through his hair, drunkenly mumbling to himself, and you couldn’t swallow down your disgust. The already tense conversation had taken a sharp turn, and you couldn’t decide who was worse; your boyfriend when he was high or your boyfriend when he was drunk.
“I mean, I guess no one would blame you if you did, right?”
You felt tears kiss your eyes, and you turned away.
“Topper’s nice and polite, and he has his shit together,” his voice was closer, now. “…you don’t have to worry about bad coping mechanisms with him.”
When Rafe grabbed your arm, you shook him off, moving away, but he followed.
“…and hey…he thinks you’re kind of hot, right?”
You froze as Rafe threw Topper’s words from months ago back at you. You sighed, eyes falling closed, unsurprised that he’d heard that. You remembered his mood later that day, and you suddenly felt so stupid, realizing that Rafe’s jealousy had been rearing it’s ugly head for months.
“You’re drunk, and I’m not entertaining this,” you told him.
Every time you moved away, Rafe followed, and his hand was on your wrist when you found yourself near the steps.
“You really expect me not to say anything to him when we both know he would’ve fucked you if you gave him the chance?” Rafe nastily said, his face inches from yours.
You pulled your arm from his wrist, forcing yourself to take a step down. Even when high, you’d never witnessed Rafe this…bad before, and your heart raced in your chest as he looked down his nose at you.
“He didn’t mean anything by that, Rafe, and even he did, he didn’t know we were together then,” you said. “The fact that you think I would even do that is-.”
“You couldn’t wait to be rid of me-.”
“We’d just gotten into a fight, Rafe! I was angry-.”
You cut yourself off when Rafe stepped closer, the action making you nervous, and you slipped, falling at the bottom of the steps, hanging onto the boat. You attempted to stand, but Rafe had followed, standing right before you and preventing you from straightening.
“…and you actually think he offered you a ride out of the goodness of his heart…”
Rafe chuckled at the thought, but it was bitter, mean, and you blinked back tears. He leaned over, and the last thing you expected was for Rafe to fist his hand into your hair, making you cry out and reach for his arm. He was kneeling before you on the higher steps, and you pushed against him.
“I’ll say whatever I want to whoever I want if I feel like they’re trying to take what’s mine,” he sneered. “What’s rightfully mine.”
His hold tightened, and you dug your nails into his hand. This didn’t feel real, and part of you still wasn’t convinced this wasn’t some sick nightmare.
“You are what’s mine in case you’re confused,” he whispered.
“Rafe, let go…”
“Do you have any idea how much that hurt me?”
You struggled to swallow, tears finally spilling over as you stared into his eyes.
“Rafe…you’re scaring me,” you choked out.
The blond paused, lips parting as he gazed at you.
“I’m scaring you,” he repeated, brows pulling together. “What about me?”
You sniffed.
“Huh? You don’t think it scared me when you let my best friend take you home, but you couldn’t get away from me fast enough? You don’t think that was scary to me?”
“Rafe,” you tearfully pleaded.
“I’m scaring you,” he repeated, murmuring the words to himself.
Your boyfriend sniffed, nodding to himself as his face grew stony.
You didn’t understand what happened at first, only realizing that water was suddenly in your mouth and your nose. Your hand was still on the boat, pressing down and sliding along the surface as you tried to straighten yourself. Your knees were on the last steps, and when you realized that a hand was still in your hair, gripping the back of your head, your heart threatened to leap out of your chest.
When you gasped again, instead of sucking in water this time, it was air. A horrible choking sound left your throat as you coughed, water spilling out of your mouth and nose. You furiously blinked, trying to make sense of what had just happened, and your hand joined your other one on Rafe’s wrist, trying to get him to let go when he pushed your head down again.
You could feel one of his hands twisted into the back of his shirt you were wearing, preventing you from going into the water completely. Your feet kicked as best as they could while kneeling, and when you realized that you couldn’t get Rafe to let go, your hand pushed against the boat again, trying to push back. He pushed your head down further, holding it down longer than last time, and at some point, your chest started to burn.
Even with your head underwater, you knew you were crying. It was the perfect moment to have an out of body experience, to feel as if you were outside of your body looking in, but instead, you felt everything. You felt the tight grip of Rafe’s hand in your hair. You felt the force behind his hand as he held you down. You could feel your heart racing and the panic in your chest as your hand continuously slid along the boat.
When Rafe finally pulled you up, he completely let you go, and you fell back on the steps, struggling to breathe. You spit up water onto them, and from the corner of your eye, you saw him stand. Your chest was burning, eyes too, and when you looked at him, you only saw his back as he walked away. He didn’t spare you a second glance as you sat on the steps, drunkenly cursing to himself about you, no doubt.
Your breaths were coming out in choppy wheezes, and you could feel your tears wetting your face, replacing whatever ocean water that was starting to dry. You could hear Rafe getting another drink, and you turned your head away, unable to stop shaking but too scared to move.
You’d been staring at the wall for hours when you heard Rafe coming below deck. You didn’t move, fingers tightening in the sheets as you heard him stop at the entrance. The taste of ocean water was still in your throat, the smell clinging to your hair and skin and shirt. When you heard Rafe softly call your name, you closed your eyes.
He sounded more sober, now, but you didn’t care.
When you closed your eyes, you could still feel his harsh grip in your hair as he held you down. You could see the sneer on his face as he accused you of having sex with Topper. You could see the glint in his blue eyes as he turned into someone you’d never seen before. Only, that wasn’t completely true, was it?
You thought about when he’d grabbed you at Midsummers and that night at the party when you literally woke up with sore wrists. You’d seen this Rafe before, but those times were small unimportant things you’d forced yourself to look past, to make excuses for. But this? Your lips trembled, and you resisted the urge to be sick.
“Y/N…”
You didn’t move when he sat down at your feet, and you felt…numb when he touched you.
“Hey,” he softly said. “Y/N.”
He knew you were awake, and the rawness of your throat reminded you that maybe ignoring him wasn’t the best idea. With a deep breath, you slowly sat up, eyes focused on the sheets. You could feel his gaze on you, and you bit your lip.
“Please, look at me, beautiful. Please,” he begged.
When you did, you didn’t miss the way Rafe frowned, like he was struggling to keep his gaze on you. Yes, he was certainly sobered up, now, and you took in the way his pink lips trembled. He swiped his tongue between them, moving closer, and your heart started to race in your chest.
It wasn’t lost on you that you were alone in the middle of the ocean with him.
“I’m sorry,” he softly breathed, moving to sit right by you, now. “I’m so… I’m so sorry.”
You didn’t respond, keeping your eyes on him like some rabid animal.
“The whole thing with Topper, I…”
He clenched his jaw, repeatedly running his hand through his dirty blond locks.
“I kept thinking about it, and the more I did, the more I just kept drinking, and I just got…so angry,” he explained, and you emptily nodded. “I’m so fucking sorry.”
He reached for your face, and you turned your head, nodding and sniffling.
“It’s-it’s fine.”
It wasn’t.
It was so far from fine it wasn’t even funny. Every time you thought back on it, you wanted to cry, and you struggled to swallow. Your voice was so raw, and sometime during the aftermath, you’d realized that you’d been screaming while your head was underwater. The look Rafe gave you told you that he knew you were lying, and he reached for your face again.
“Rafe, I told you, it’s fine,” you choked out, trying to push him away.
“I’m sorry,” he softly repeated, leaning in, and you pulled away.
“Rafe, I’m tired, okay? I’m really tired, and it’s fine, and…and we can just go to bed,” you struggled to say.
His hands slid to your arms, and his brows were drawn together as he studied you.
“I told you I was sorry-.”
“…and I believe you. I told you it’s fine, Rafe.”
You could tell that your refusal to let him kiss you was bothering him, and again, it hit you that you were alone with him out here. Rafe had made it clear that you would never know what he was capable of, and you felt your stomach churn at the thought of placating him…too afraid to not to, right now.
When his lips brushed against yours, you shuddered, and you squeezed your eyes shut. You couldn’t stop shaking, and when Rafe laid you down, you kept your eyes on the ceiling. He kept telling you how sorry he was, but it didn’t mean anything to you. The minute you got back on land, Rafe would be lucky if he ever saw you again.
In this moment, you wished you hadn’t snuck out, thinking that maybe the universe was trying to look out for you by having your parents ground you. You wondered if this was some horrible lesson you had to learn, and as Rafe pushed himself into you, sighing at the feel of you squeezing him, you were grateful that it was too dark for him to see your tears.

ghostbusters👻☎
heeseung x reader (afab) genre: friends to lovers, conducting a seance, spooOooky, friends having fun!! synopsis: what is better than a sleepover after the dreadful exams? a game of calling ghosts at a sleepover! where y/n and her friends play the game of seance with candles. word count: 2.6K 🖤🖤 DISCLAIMER‼️ i do not intend make fun of the practice or anyone who believes in such things. this story is purely for entertainment. continue reading....༉‧₊˚🕯️🖤❀༉‧₊˚.
"dude we are still having the sleepover right?" hearing heeseung's voice over the phone was just the moral boost i needed to protect myself from the eventual bed rot.
"yeah... we do, don't we..." however, nothing could stop me from the self-loathing that ensued after our exam results were published.
"y/n are you still sad about your grades? dude... you literally topped the class. so what jay beat you to rank 1, you know that nerdball is always trying to one up you."
ha...was it that evident in my voice "no, haha no its... ugh you know what, yeah i am upset. LIKE HE LITERALLY TOLD ME HE DIDN'T DO WELL IN PHYSICS, BUT THAT HOE??? this is why i hate toppers."
"oh? is it so?"
JAY??? what- omg did hee just put me on a three way call??
"HEE?" what is this guy doing. gosh way to go. he sure does know how to put me on the spot!
"no bestie it is I. the topper. you know you should actually let me know how crude your true intent is. and here i thought you were a friend."
"oh well good cause i can't be friends with LIARS! i wasn't the one who pretended to not know about the exam and then proceed to get an A! that is actually being an asshole. also that you never told me about getting tutored by jake."
"wait what you were getting tutored by jake? is this how you steal peoples friends jay?"
"WHAT? NO I DIDN'T? THAT LIL SHIT HAS BEEN TELLING EVERYONE THAT? JAKE-"
*the line cuts and the doorbell rings*
who could that be?
"hee?" "yes? who else? its time for the sleepover girl?"
"its 7 o' clock in the evening heeseung, who comes this early anyways-" i mean how does it even matter to scold him cause either ways, he barges into the house.
"well technically i do live here. its like my second home. do you need to take permission to enter your own house love?" of course. the only reason why i am friends with hee. he is unapologetically himself. it puts me at ease to have a person who thinks of me so dearly. or thinks of my home so dearly...
"ok fyi i also sent the invite in the gc"
"oh i know, jay is on the way with jake, maybe after he beats him up tho."
i chuckle at the thought of those two bickering. obviously jake hadn't told me anything about tutoring. it was just fun to watch them bicker after all! "and for you, i also invited leah over." a wicked grin decorates my face as i watch hee's jaw drop and eyes go wide in horror.
"Y/N??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO what? why? how could you do this to me? YOU ARE VERY AWARE OF HOW CLINGY SHE IS WITH ME. she is like obsessed with me or something! please no y/n. i am so sorry!! Y/N"
"hee be nice! she is my friend! and everyone has tiny crushes. she just likes you a bit. as the good friend that i am, i am just helping her out! she also has something planned for the night. she was recommending some game? i don't know."
*bell rings*
"i guess that must be the two actual friends of mine. the ones who TRULY care for me!" i chuckle as i approach the door.
however nobody stands as i open the door. i look outside to check my surroundings but it is as quiet as a night full of mysteries could be. the sudden noise of thunder fills the ambience as it starts pouring heavily. i shriek as i run back into the house, locking the door. "hee...?" i look over the kitchen counter, the sofa, and knock on the bathroom doors he doesn't respond. "ugh where did this kid go? hee, hees- AHHHHHH!
something black just covers my eyes from the back as a scream for my life. "geez, if you didn't know how to defend yourself, you sure can make a serial killer go deaf. you know you should audition for those roles of screamers in the slasher thrillers."
"HEESEUNG! NOT FUNNY. I WAS SO SCARED!" "aww pookie was scared" "ew-" but his warm hug makes up for it. as the cold from the rain starts creeping into the room, heeseung offers me his jacket.
"what about you?" "don't worry. you will be warm and smell nice in it." he adds on with a wink. this guy. my laughs cover how blown out my pupils look. it isn't fair. how he gets to have this effect on me. i mean we are friends but moments like these, make me question otherwise. why can't i reciprocate the flirtations? why am i defeated dumb by this gorgeous guy?
"ok leah justed texted me. jay is picking her up" "you text leah?" "sometimes, when i think my charm is wearing off." "you are such an asshole! i am going to tell her." "no you won't." "and why is that?" "cause you care about me. cause, you like me." a grin of victory. i wave my hand to dismiss the words thrown out in air. is it that simple for him?
☆ ★ ✮ ★ ☆
our boisterous laugh fills my apartment. if it weren't for these people i genuinely wouldn't make it through college. but as we talk, as we laugh, heeseung keeps falling all over me.
"HEESEUNG WHY DO YOU HAVE A SERIOUS CASE OF IJBOLITIS YOU WILL SQUISH Y/N." jay's boisterous accusation fills the room when jake ends up becoming a water fountain spitting out the cola he was drinking. "omg y'all!! now i need to get tissues" shaking my head isn't enough for the amount of chaos these people cause.
was i saying something about them saving me throughout college? never mind that, it is in direct proportion to the headache they give me. stealing glance from hee i move towards the kitchen "y/n could you also get...um..five! yes five candles!" "candles? for what leah?" "remember?! i told you we have to play a game. i mean we are done watching a movie. it is raining outside. IT IS 3 AM! this is the perfect time to have a seance!" "ah what now?"
"a seance jake. wouldn't have expected you to know however." "please do explain jAy. wHat is a sEanCe"
"well you see in ancient times-"
"it is a ghost calling game!"
"it is NOT a game leahhh." wow... i have never seen jay pout?
"wellllllll none of us are mediums."
"what would you know baby i could be a medium?"
"BABY??" "BABY?" "you both-"
"what y/n? as if you aren't hiding something?! *giggling* you and hee... aren't you also dating? you may not tell your dear friend-"
"what? no no you have it wrong leah. y/n and i. i would never date her. we can never date. we are friends. right y/n? y/n-"
i rush to the kitchen as soon as possible. i have nothing to do with that conversation. i should have known. it was just heeseung being heeseung. he is just nice to everyone. it shouldn't mean anything that the way he looks at me is any different. it was just my perception. it was my fault i thought that heeseung could love me any more than a friend. it should have been me who answered that. of course. like he said we could never date. why would he date me. why would i date him. why am i hurt-
"y/n? why did you leave like that?"
as i feel my throat burning at the familiar sound. my eyes are about to spill the truth. "didn't leah ask to get the candles though? why are you worried." as i shove past him in my annoyance which almost turned into guilt. reaching up to open the cabinet heeseung comes closer, hovering over me to reach the matchbox. "y/n" oh i know that timbre of his voice. the low, soothing tone, prying to know if i am hurt. i am not. definitely. "what?" "i am supposed to ask you that. i know you have something on your mind. i mean i know you were trying to set me up with your friend-" oh. he wasn't even thinking about me. good lord. this is pathetic. i am pathetic. "no i wasn't worried about that. matter of fact i wasn't worried at all. first you three way call jay to "prank" me. and now you think i am unlovable. pick a side lee heeseung. do you even care or not."
"woah. government name... if i didn't know you better, i would say you are mad right now." "that is the point heeseung. you don't. know. me." "baby-" "DO NOT CALL ME THAT!" as i push him back to the kitchen island i feel his round eyes on me filled with concern and guilt. i am unable to pull him back before he bumps into the glass as it shatters to the floor.
"ayo? what happened-" jake's concerned voice broke both of us from the intense glare we shared.
"DID THE GLASS JUST BREAK? LEAH BABY! ISN'T THIS A BAD OMEN. WE SHOULDN'T BE DOING THIS!" "jay.... baby relax it didn't fall on it's own."
"ew, get a room." leah rolls her eyes as she speaks "i guess heeseung bumped into it. right?" "yeah. that is exactly what happened."
☆ ★ ✮ ★ ☆
"so that is basically it. we hold each other's hands and ask if any spirit is out there who wants to contact us. and i know how hard it is for us to remain silent, calm and composed we HAVE to. the candles will flicker and we can then start asking questions! only ask yes or no questions. also, no questions about death, money or future! ok y/n babe light the candles in the center please!!"
as leah instructs all of us we get into position. i immediately scurried next to leah's side and held her hand as we all sat down. i could sense heeseung's intense stare on me but for the sake of my sanity, i choose to ignore him like all my problems in life. didn't know he would someday fall on that list. am i being dramatic? maybe. i am just a girl! 🫧𓇼𓏲*ੈ✩‧₊˚🎀
"wow that is cool and everything but, sorry y/n i don't want to hold sweaty ass palms?" "excuse ME-" "i said what i said!" jake dashes of to sit next to jay who was happily seated next to his gf. this jake had one job. heeseung awkwardly shifts to sit next to me. my hands go cold with the tight feeling in the pit of my stomach. i try to be extremely nonchalant about it. but in the shuffle i almost skid on the stupid floor which makes him snort. i look up to squint at him but it elicits only a response of a smirk from him. oh.
"oh also if the candle assigned to each of us flickers then it is a yes and if all the candles remain still. well, a no." "aw babeee you are learning so well!" "the best is teaching me" as jay shoots a wink at his partner we all physically groan with jake audibly gagging. well this is going to be fun...
☆ ★ ✮ ★ ☆
as the rounds went by the questions became stupider. you would think that all of us had a collective braincell count of negative 5.
"am I the smartest in this group"
" *cough* nO *cough* "
"shut up jake!"
"whaaaat it wasn't me :("
this is what i missed the most, laughing, having fun with your friends. i also long back started to feel at ease with hee's warm hands melting into mine. i had gone overboard with my feelings and it wasn't fair to hee or me... i just had made assumptions. i wished to clear the air. as my other friends continued to bicker i turned towards hee.
"hee...i am sorry for pushing you earlier. i just... it did sting when you said you would NEVER date me. i mean i am not that bad of a person am i" i laugh trying to cover the underlying connotations of my ask. " *chuckles* im sorry y/n. it was actually on me that i assumed you would be averse to dating ME. i mean who would want to date their friends, right?" his response caught me off guard so did his tone. he ended the question with some unsaid hope. i tried to decipher what he meant while trying to study his eyes. his eyes were locked into mine the similar way. trying to uncover the surface and delve deeper.
"i guess there are two other love birds here!" leah's voice broke us from a trance like state. " ahha leah. so its my turn? ok i would like to ask whether i will be rich- "HEE DO YOU WANT TO DIE LEAH JUST SAID NO QUESTIONS ABOUT MONEY!!!" " well...if it means it will be in your arms-"
"ohh my godddddd"
"i think i just barfed in my mouth-"
"YOU are actually the perpetrator of such CRIME!"
"EXCUSE ME-"
no amount of eye rolls can save the redness that creeps into my face. this guy- but this time i try to play along. "well why are you trying to be like romeo-juliet, when we can be hee-y/n alive and happy." i add on a wink feeling extra feisty.
the silence which fills the room could be cut through with a knife. i was about to back track when hee's jaw dropped like never before and a howling laughter ensued.
"oh heeseung she DEVOURED YOU SO BAD!!"
"damn y/n should flirt more often!!"
hee was just as dumbfounded as i was at my response.
"oh yeah? are you sure y/n. don't make promises you can't keep." his voice dropped to a soothing volume. his head tilted with the slightest smolder in his eyes. not to overpowering. just enough to hypnotize, mesmerize. as he turned towards the the candle circle his voice become bold and clear.
"dear spirit just y/n like me?" is he for real!!?? did he just ask that in front of... at that moment it felt as all the air in the room had left. a chill ran through my spine. i could see my friends start to feel uneasy as it seemed something, or someBODY else had joined our little gathering. i could see leah's face drop as she held my hand's tighter than usual. even jake and jay feel completely silent with the ambience in the air which dropped the temperature.
" ok... um so heeseung your candle isn't flickering-"
"but baby look... y/n's candle is flickering."
it felt like time had stopped. the room felt eerily filled with various other auras. feeling intensified. the tension was rising. as if as an instinct i held onto hee's hand tighter than before. from my periphery i noticed him glance towards me. he reciprocated.
"ok that is enough, thank you spirit for joining us." leah broke the tension as she blew out the candles and all of us sighed. as if everyone was holding their breathe expecting the worse.
all of us looked at each other. "ok... well the spirit didn't have to expose me like that..." everyone started giggling. this experience was something else.
"so you do like me?"
"well we all knew that before you two idiots knew."
"for once I agree with jake. you both are so blind, imagine, a LITERAL SPIRIT had to come and expose y'all."
"wellll THIS WAS FUN. and, i beg you y/n. NEVER second guess MY intuition. mwah mwah. you both are soooo adorbs!!"
and all i and hee could do in laugh and fall in for each other all over again.
omg this was long af😭😭 i had so many doubts and second thoughts with this buttttt, i hope you like it‼️‼️ please do show support and love by reblogging🖤and sending in asks in the mailbox💌thank you ‧₊˚🖇️✩ ₊˚🎧⊹♡

New “budget” Commander cards: March of the Machine Edition: Multicolor
Alright, this is gonna be a long one. For the sake of brevity (ah!) I'll only touch on multicolor cards that are at most two colors, since three+ color cards are much, much narrower in regards to which decks can even play them in the first place.
Also, a lot of these cards are legends. I will be discussing them as part of the 99, if you want to build dedicated commander decks around them, you can also do that, but then their evaluations can shift dramatically both from them being built around completely and consistently available.
As before, all the cards included here are $2 or less at time of writing.
Not quite a Young Pyromancer, but the extra flexibility of triggering others more or getting a 2 powered token can make the two worth it in spellslinger decks that aim bigger, either through cost reduction or a control strategy.
The home for this is obvious, though I'm including it to point out the fact its restrictions are separate for every single permanent you control, so proliferate effects or mass counter granting will grow this tramply friend very, very fast in counter decks.
Ramp for you and card draw for everyone, on an on-curve body. It might struggle to find homes due to the need to attack, but hey, it's a Parleying Pirate.
Sadly, this card works with Flash but not instants. Still, a great engine for any deck that's heavy on (primarily) flying creatures, be it birds, angels or sphinges.
That's a LOT of power, rewards for going both wide and tall, and can trigger immediately since it doesn't need to attack itself. This will make you very scary at the table as a curve topper.
Two artifact tokens for four power and toughness a turn that attack well, if you have the synergy or mana to take advantage of it, the new Glissa doesn't disappoint! Once again a bit different from her previous iterations, but that's fine!
While this is no Snapcaster Mage for competitive formats, in commander where efficiency is less central and you have multiple opponents, the flying 3/1 body and most importantly the ability to cast spells from any opponent's graveyard as well as your own makes this Faerie a very attractive candidate. Whether you need a wrath, a targeted removal, ramp, a regrowth, or maybe even something meaner like an extra turn spell or an overrun, you'll often get your pick and get access to effects outside your colors!
Immediate value, and a powerful back that gives you all the options in the world, some ramp, and is relatively easy to get to. If you have enough enchantments that the front side will reliably function, I don't think there's many decks that WOULDN'T at least be ok with running this.
A lot of value on that front side in commander that's essentially a 3-for-0 that fills graveyard. It's not too hard to flip into a reanimation spell from any graveyard, which makes this very interesting and self-fueling. However, be wary of filling other people's graveyard, I'd prefer this in a deck that already wants to be doing that.
Once again, the decks that want this are self-explanatory. If you have targets for the tutor, either in aura voltron or in a deck with a few Gods, and an heavy enough enchantment theme that the back is desirable, and access to both blue and white, this is a stellar pick for those specific decks.
How many things does your spell need to do? This removes three different permanent types at no card disadvantage (either you get to draw or a GIANT CREATURE), or can just be a surprise beater that's hard to block. There's no need for specific themes here, they can fit just fine anywhere if you want them to.
A Kithkin! Being able to blink any nonland every turn is actually quite a strong effect, though there will be extra hoops to jump through. The requirement to tap means you'll want your deck to have just that one more reason to play it, not just random blink decks. Ideally, to tap her the turn she comes down for some immediate value. She really, really likes vehicles, because then you can tap her down at instant-speed to get literally any nonland permanent out of the way of a targeted removal or board wipe, and she can even target herself for that! If you play her, I highly, highly, highly recommend vehicles with ETB abilities, for example Imposter Mech in specific, as a clone vehicle she can crew by herself AND that can get you any opponent's etb effects whenever you blink it itself.
Reanimating any nonland whenever you cast an artifact or legend, for free, is VERY abusable and powerful, even for just a turn. They will need specific decks, ones that have a stocked graveyard and either enough artifacts or legends to trigger them, but in those decks, they're a must-kill threat.
Commander's color identity rules don't make Pollux here a favor by requiring having a green-white deck. With that said, if your ramp, fixing or color balance is able to support the cost, I hear Wurmcoil Engine is a pretty nice magic the gathering card. Of course, in hydra tribal, even better, but also if you have a deck with clones, clones of the back of Polukranos here will see each other die to trigger multiple times for a geometric amount of hydras. And if the legend rule is active, they even come with a convenient way to die on arrival!
The mana cost is a bit rough on five, but the modularity is there. Flying and haste means you're getting immediate value and you'll have somewhere to connect, and the first strike means the last mode will add to the combat damage your non-first striking creatures will deal this turn, all with some extra options on there, and not even specifying combat damage if you want to have fun pinging after-combat. If you go wide in rakdos, I could see this acting as a surprise finisher that's still a very decent value piece before you're set up.
Merfolk Looter is still a decent card, it allows you to see more cards, avoiding non-games and providing you more option. Rona is better than that in so many ways it's not funny, so much so it's easy to get lost in the extra words on there. You don't need to be built around her with legends or pestilence effects for her to be a very solid option, just having a merfolk looter that prevents you from early attacks by being a 1/3 would legitimately be enough, but then you also get a late game threat and some extra free looting when you cast your commander.
For sacrifice outlets, you generally want them to not cost any mana and be available at instant-speed. None of that matters, because this turns every single sacrifice into a card draw, repeatedly, which, with the singular exception of Yawgmoth, a $15+ card from Modern Horizons that's not remotely fair, always costs at least two mana. And this can sacrifice artifacts too, which means all those treasures are fair game to turn into card draw! This is an incredibly powerful uncommon I would play in any rakdos aristocrats or treasure deck, budget or no budget, and so easy to overlook.
March of the Multitudes was a mythic that's still a very popular choice for token decks in its colors. Losing the instant-speed does hurt, but you get an extra bodies and your tokens hit twice as hard and can't be easily blocked. If you're planning on going wide in Boros, I think that's a no-brainer, even if you're not the convoke deck this came in.

Rango: "Okay, let's not even joke about it. You would be a shitty father."
Spewart: "... Unfortunately, I don't think any of us could have kids of our own... I've gotten my bottom surgery done, including getting my tubes tied, so that's impossible... Hariet is most likely infertile due to uterine issues, Rango is into men, and Topper...... Uh..."
Topper: :/
Rango: "Incel."
Hariet: "Incel."
Spewart: "Incel, I guess."
>Fun fact: Not a single couple on my blog is capable of having children. For reasons such as there being same-sex couples, asexuality, infertility, trans-ness, and more<
Roy: Rangbow and I are both ace... We may adopt in the future, but who knows. My bro is gay and trans, and last I heard, he was considering bottom surgery, but I dunno.
Rango: We already got a kid, remember? *playfully holding up Topper*
Roy: ... I could get him a tutor at the palace for when he's little, and-
Rango: I-I was kidding! :<
Roy: Oh-
Rango: Though if you're serious... Toppy can be our kid.
Hariet: Pom said she might fight her mom in court for custody over Motley, so... If that happens, I guess he sorta becomes my kid?
Roy: If they live in the same place as Boom, I'd heavily suggest that... Do they all live together??
Hariet: Boom's unemployed and just does things in the basement... Pom works two jobs and has an apartment but frequently goes home to babysit.
Roy: Geez, that sucks...
Rango: How old are dey again?...
Hariet: Pom's 20 and Boom's like, 26 I think.
Roy: ... Ew... I didn't know he was 26...

“See? You didn’t die.” Rafe whispers behind you.
You look up at the bedroom window you just climbed down from. Your bedroom window. You’re not sure how you let yourself be convinced so quickly. Rafe made it happen, of course. All he had to do was beg you, and he knows how you could never say no to him. He knows it because he’s the same as you.
You smooth down your skirt as you look around. It’s so dark on this side of your house, none of your neighbors would ever see you. Rafe sure has never been noticed coming down from your window, and doing the climbing yourself is truly just a confirmation of how it works. No light from the street can reach the ‘in-between’ of the houses, and your parents do not have motion lights like at the front. All you have to do is be quiet, and you won’t wake them up.
“Where’s the car?” You ask him.
“Down the street.” He says before you finally look back at him.
Topper’s car, that is. You still can’t believe you accepted going to a party with Rafe. Deep down, you want to think about what could possibly go wrong, but… you know exactly what could go wrong.
Your uneasiness is written all over your face, and that is when Rafe grabs onto your hand and begins to pull you in the direction of the car. You walk through the warm night slowly with him. The two of you are silent and don’t say a word until you’re off your parents' property and begin to walk in front of your neighbor’s house.
You take a look over your shoulder, and some unsettling feeling lays over your heart. You’ve never done this before. You’ve never jumped out of your window to go to a party after just wishing goodnight to your parents. What if they go and check on you? What if they are doing it right now? They know you don’t fall asleep right as you lay down, and they probably need to ask you something. What if they knock for a long time? What if they think something happened to you and will open the door with some sort of master key? What will happen?
You look away from your house, already in the distance, and, right as you’re stealing a look from Rafe, he’s already looking down at you. You offer him a small smile and try to make him ignore whatever you must have written all over your face. You wrap your arms around his own and lay a kiss on his bicep.
The two of you walk through the street until reaching the very end of it, where a car is parked. Rafe grabs the keys from his pocket and unlocks the doors. You walk with him as he takes you to your door, and you offer him yet another smile when he opens it for you.
You get into the car seat, being careful with your skirt as you do so, and, when you sit down comfortably, you notice Rafe standing between you and the door.
“Are you okay?” He asks you, a little louder than a whisper now.
“Yeah.”
You nod with your answer and tilt your own lips into a grin. Rafe doesn’t seem to want to push you to say more, and, for some reason, your heart pleads for you to talk to him. Anything to keep you from overthinking. But you don't say anything.
Rafe closes your door and walks around the car to his seat. You fetch your phone and check notifications. Kristy had texted you just 5 minutes ago about some movie she was watching - the worst she’s ever seen, in her description. You offer conversation to make it seem like you’re home and bored, and she is quick to text back.
As Rafe is driving out of your street all the way to your destination, you feel like the uneasiness of sneaking out is easing. The more distance you get from them, the better you feel, but, again, you’re not sure if you’re ready for whatever party Rafe is taking you to.
What if the rumors are real? Rafe says that the parties he goes to are, most of the time, the small ones around the big party on the island. If the rumors are real, that means that there will be drugs. Fuck, where are you getting yourself into? And you know you can’t say these things to Rafe because you will sound like some stuck-up bitch for no reason. You were laughing with him when you said you would come to this party with him.
Rafe steals countless looks at you, here and there, and especially at every red light. You don’t look okay, and, even though he’d want to take you to the party, he also wouldn’t mind driving you back home.
You continuously look out of the window while talking to yourself in your head, as well as, continuously give yourself affirmations to go through the night.
All this time, you’ve always concluded that they aren’t your crowd. What are you doing to yourself?
Some anxiety burns deep at the center of your chest, and it burns with its cold flames. It is able to spread all throughout your body, making you feel heavy and making your breathing more difficult. It feels like some sort of small anxiety attack.
The car stops, and you take your eyes off the window to look ahead. The house is right in front of you. It’s still a Figure Eight house, but way smaller than the one from the last party you went to with your friends. Its white hood is lit up, especially on the porch, where some people stand by. There are some people with drinks in their hands, but, mostly, they're all smoking. Some other people are getting out of their cars too, and excitingly going inside the house. That could never be you. You’re as tight and straight as a freaking stick.
“Do you want me to take you home?” Rafe’s question makes you look at him quickly.
“What? No, no. Why?” You ask as you begin to slowly take out your seatbelt.
“You look like you’ve seen enough, and we haven’t even got in.” Rafe says. A small smile appears on his lips as if he's amused by his own words.
You feel a little curve on your own lips and look away from him to look at the porch of the house. The door is closed, but as you’re watching a group of girls getting to it, one of the guys by the door is reaching to open it for them - meaning that it is unlocked.
“No.” You tell Rafe, “I still want to go in, I just…”
You hesitate. You do not want to finish your sentence. God, what would he even think of you? You’re being all hesitant about a party. A normal party. How many times have you been to parties before?
“Come here.”
His voice cuts through your entire mental conflict and the silence in the car. You look back at Rafe and see him get some space in his seat by leaning closer to the door. You sigh, shakingly, and sit up. With a hand on the console of the car, you move slowly and calculatedly. You don’t want to add embarrassment to your list of uncomfortable emotions.
You move over the console of the truck and sit down beside Rafe, your legs folded just over his lap. You lean back against the console and notice how you're practically glued to your boyfriend as he stares at you. Rafe’s hand lays over one of your legs, and he comfortingly smooths his warm palm over it.
“What is it?” He asks you.
You take a deep breath before even considering talking. You swallow all over your fears and second thoughts for just a minute.
“I feel… overwhelmed, I think.” You whisper. It is only the two of you in the car, and still, you are scared to speak any louder.
“With what?” He asks you softly.
“I’ve never snuck out.” You start, expecting some sort of amusement on his face, but it never appears, “So, I’m freaking out about that.”
“Why?”
“Because my parents can always find out.”
Now, that makes a little amusement appear on Rafe’s face, but it was only because of your tone. You said it as if it had been the most obvious thing you’ve ever said, and Rafe had to find that funny. He continues to smooth his hand through your leg, and you sigh feeling a little defeated.
“And the rest?” He asks.
“What rest?”
“You said you felt overwhelmed.” He repeats, “So there has to be more than that, right?”
You hesitate, and your hesitation is the clearest thing of this entire conversation. Rafe can’t promise you that your parents won’t find out. He can lie - if it means that you won’t be as scared, because, sure, it would be unlikely, but not impossible. But he knows there's something else. Something worse, which is making you not talk to him.
Rafe’s vacant arm wraps around you, just over the console and around your back. The two of you are very close to one another, yet, it is not like the two of you aren’t like this even when you aren’t both sitting in the same car seat.
“I don’t know if I’ll like the party.” You keep it simple, looking down at your hands in your lap. “I’m not a big party person. So, I don’t know if I’ll like this… type… of party…” You let out a small breath, “That’s it.”
“What type of party?” Rafe asks, and your breathing stops for a few seconds.
“A-A small party.”
“A small party?” He parrots, eyebrows lifted and still with a small smile on his face. “This is just like any other party on the island. Just small. How is that… intimidating?”
You lift your eyes at him, and they melt after not even a second of looking at Rafe's. He knows you’ll have fun today, the hardest part will just be the beginning: getting to know everyone, or having the first drink. He’s fine with it, he’s more than fine. You, on the other hand, not so much.
“I don’t… hang out with people like you, Rafe.” You explain in a whisper. “They’re not my crowd. I’ve always been told that. So, I guess I just don’t want to…” You pause to choose the right words yet again, “Be disappointed.”
“You hang out with me just fine.” He tells you as a defense.
“You’re different.” You shake your head at him.
“How am I different?”
The answer is as clear as day to you, but you can assume that you know what Rafe is talking about. You could ask anyone, from Pogues to Kooks, about who is the worst influence on the entire island when it comes to a party, and everyone would say his name, even his own friends.
The rumors that circle his name drip with both the words ‘coke’ and ‘fights’. You swear that at the party you’ve been with him before, you’ve seen him both high and bloody. And even when that night almost feels like a fever dream to you, you know what you saw. The rumors are true.
But he’s different. Different with you.
“You’re different.” You repeat, not offering any explanation. “You just are.”
Rafe stares at you for a little bit. His eyes search your face for something, but they don’t find anything.
“So you’re scared of the people?” He concludes.
“I guess.” You shrug, looking out of the window in front of you.
“And what else?”
“Nothing.”
“What else?” He asks you, making you send him a cute glare, “Drugs?”
Your facial expression gave him the only confirmation he needed.
“They’re there. I won’t lie to you.” He says calmly, “But you only take something if you want to… Do you?”
“No.” You answer.
“Then you won’t.” He assures you, “No one will give you anything or touch you in there. I promise.”
Your puppy eyes come back, and Rafe leans in closer to you. Your breathing mixes as you have your faces mere inches away. Rafe’s arm around you pulls you closer to him, and you continue to look into his eyes.
“I promise.” He whispers again, and you nod.
Rafe kisses you and one of your hands lifts to grab onto his shirt. The kiss is soft and calm, something that truly makes your heart feel a little better. When you pull away, the two of you still stay close when you decide to speak.
“And they won’t say anything about us?”
“They won’t care.” He tells you with a small shake of his head, “I promise. Again.” He tilts his head a little when he adds the last word, making your lips finally come back with a grin.
You peck his lips, and your hands fly to their usual place, on each of his cheeks. Rafe leans in closer to you, making you lean further back into the console and giggle against his mouth. The kiss, even though roughened by the man himself, is playful and still very much soft. When pulling away again, Rafe makes sure to peck your lips like you do each time.
“Anything else?” He asks, and you shake your head. “Are you sure?”
“Just a question.” You whisper onto his face, and he lifts his head to make you talk, “Are there only guys in your friend group?”
“Why?”
“I don’t want to spend the entire night with only men.” You offer him a distasteful frown.
“I’m not enough?” He asks, and you chuckle.
“Are there girls or not?” You ask through your giggles, making Rafe smile at you too.
“Yeah, they’re Topper’s friends. They’re there almost all the time.” He tells you.
Before any of you can speak again, there’s a knock on the window in front of you. You don’t know how you didn’t scream because you had totally forgotten you were in a car in the first place. You can only see a bit outside, as the windows are slightly tinted and the truck is on the darkest part of the driveway.
Rafe rolls down the window, and Topper Thornton appears. His eyes land on you first, but they quickly go over to Rafe.
“You better not have fucked in there.” He says, “I had it cleaned this morning.”
“Better clean it a second time, then.” Rafe answers, “I left a spot. Tissues only do so much.”
The disgust in Topper’s face only lasts until he sees you smack Rafe’s chest, which could only mean that nothing has happened. Rafe smiles at you as you shake your head at him, and your eyes soon find Topper again.
“Topper, right?” You ask him with a cute smile.
“That’s me.” He says, “You should be whoever has Rafe on a leash.”
Rafe can only roll his eyes at his best friend’s words as you giggle at him wholeheartedly. You move on his lap and lean over to the window to offer your hand to Topper. You two shake hands, and you continue to smile at his previous words.
You have lifted from the seat and have your knees just by Rafe’s legs. It’s a very bad position to be in when you date someone like Rafe. You smack his hand away as soon as you feel it on your ass, and Topper is completely oblivious to it, while Rafe can only smile at you.
Rafe, as he expected, watches as you and Topper actually begin a pleasant conversation. Pleasant is a very debatable word since the two of you are talking about him, and how you have him completely wrapped around your finger. It’s true, but Rafe isn’t going to let you brag about it, so he makes sure to pinch the back of your thigh every time.
After you smack him a second and third time, Rafe looks at Topper as he keeps on talking. Why the two of you haven’t jumped out of the car, he has no idea, but he's more than comfortable right now. The view isn’t bad either.
He smooths down your skirt, which you do not smack him for. You are very much on all fours peeking out of the window, your skirt has definitely moved around.
“Did you talk to Patty, today?” Topper asks Rafe.
“When do I ever talk to her?” He answers, leaning his head on the door, looking at him.
“Who’s Patty?” You ask, curious.
“Patricia.” Topper explains. “She usually goes to parties with all of us, but she might be too hungover from yesterday still.”
“You’d like her.” Rafe tells you.
“Oh yeah,” Topper agrees, “She’s seriously missing a few screws, but she’s fun.”
You laugh at the description and shake your head. That’s surely an exaggeration.
(...)
It wasn’t. It really wasn’t an exaggeration.
Patty is definitely a character. You’re not sure if when you first saw her, you already caught her either drunk or high, but the truth is that she hugged you tighter than anyone before. She complimented (very enthusiastically) you for your hair, makeup, clothes, and even shoes. She kept on saying that you are adorable. And she was shocked to know that you came in with Rafe and, especially, your connection to Rafe.
You laughed and smiled your way through Patricia finding it out and teasing your boyfriend for having settled after, supposedly, saying countless times that he would never settle for anyone.
At some point, she was able to eventually disconnect you from Rafe’s side and pull you through the party with your arms laced together. You were a bit scared to leave him since you were not exactly used to Patty just yet, but Rafe did seem to trust her enough to take you away from him, so, you were left to trust her too.
Patty introduced you to her other friends, not just the guys. And, spectacularly, she’s hyperactive enough to make you forget all about your nerves and anxieties for just a few minutes. She was the one who pulled you into the kitchen and got you a drink. Everything eased up much more after the first cup.
At some point, you caught yourself not looking around anymore. Alcohol surely helped, but you stopped feeling scared of who could see you at this party and, overall, who surrounded you. You were deep in conversation with Patty and her friends and swear that you felt fine. You felt normal.
The girls, friends with Patty, were so nice to you. So nice, it actually made you feel bad for expecting such bad things from them. You were expecting girls who would hate you at first glance and judge you for every action. You got the exact opposite. They're easy to talk to and have fun with.
You've eventually separated from them at some point, wanting to go and see Rafe once again. You had found him by the table at the beginning, just like at the start of the party. Topper was the first one to see you, and he offered you a grin before going back to his conversation.
You sat with Rafe and were brought into a conversation too. Rafe's hand laying on your lap and moving back and forth to warm your cold legs. He made sure that you were okay countless times, multiple in whispers. To which you answered a simple 'yes' each time.
Patty came back at one point too. She gave you another drink and failed to mention to you how much stronger it was. You took small sips, not daring to fall victim to the burning of your throat that came from the straight alcohol on your cup.
When you got separated again and went back inside the warm house, time went by faster and the alcohol felt smoother.
At about 2am, you can admit that you have never been to a party where the time passed by so quickly.
Everyone seems to have gone inside at some point. You all talked and drank and most definitely laughed. Your worries and overthinking have never been so lost in the back of your mind until now.
You definitely have met so many people that, whenever the night is over, you know you won’t remember any names other than some of the girls and probably Topper.
The girls are just a little bit drunker than you are, but everyone is still walking upright, which is surprising. Yes, both you and Patty have tripped on air a bit too many times throughout the night, but you haven’t fallen yet.
With the girls, you’ve talked, jumped, danced, and done a lot of things that you swore you weren’t capable of doing when sober. You had to talk Patty out of doing cheerleading moves - she’s not a cheerleader - and she has talked the other girls out of getting into the second-floor bathroom through the window more than once.
Your phone has vibrated a few times in your hand, and, from what you’ve seen, it’s just Kristy sending you her usual ‘funny posts’ in the middle of the night. Even drunk-you made the smart choice of not opening them so she doesn’t know you’re awake. You’re not sure if you can type, therefore, you cannot let her start a conversation.
You walk your way through the absurdly full living room while trying not to cringe at how all sweaty everyone is and how they're nearly grinding onto you as you walk past. Patty and some of the girls are walking right behind you, hand in hand so no one gets lost or left behind. After some time, you can finally see Rafe in the sea of people in the distance, and that only makes you walk faster.
As you get to his side, he’s standing with his friends, you get their attention too as you seemingly appeared out of nowhere. You offer them a grin and look over at Patty to see if you didn’t completely abandon her while you leaned your head on your boyfriend. Your new friends are now circling a busy Topper. You smile at the way he’s trying to talk to some girl, and they continuously sing and jump around him.
You watch as Topper rolls his eyes at the girls and still continues his conversation, trying to act as unbothered as one could. When you turn to face Rafe yet again, he’s not talking anymore, just listening, and that is when you lean closer to him. You pull your phone out while hugging his arm close to your body and stare at the notifications in silence. Your drunken eyes are trying to figure out if you have any calls or important texts, but you get highly distracted by the hour changing - 3AM.
Rafe’s arm moves against you and, when you look up, you see the guys walking away, leaving you alone in the busy room with your boyfriend. Rafe, with a slight movement of his arm, makes you move, and you come to stand in front of him. Before saying or doing anything, you put your phone inside his pocket - where it has been for most of the night since your skirt is not blessed to that degree.
“You’re having fun?” Rafe leans down to talk to you.
You look up and offer him a nod and a smile in response. Your hands come to his sides, and your arms wrap around him slightly. You put your head back, and Rafe pecks your lips. It’s so quick, you don’t fail to feel a little disappointed. Rafe chuckles at the way you don’t hide any of your emotions and bring his lips back to yours.
You hum against his lips and bring one of your hands away from his torso to his face. The kiss evolves into very much making out, leaving your mind nothing more than a foggy mess.
It takes you a good second to understand what you’re doing, kissing Rafe in public. There have to be at least 20 people around you who can see it, and you have no idea how many there must be in total. All of them can see you kissing him.
You bring your body closer to him as much as you can, and, as you predicted, Rafe’s hand comes to your waist. You try to roughen up the kiss yourself, kissing Rafe harder than you usually do, but it only makes him squeeze your side, and make you laugh against his mouth.
Rafe grins down at you as you laugh, and you bring your other hand up to his chest.
“When are we leaving?” You ask him, your eyes still trained on his lips.
“Whenever you want to.” He answers you over the music.
You use the opportunity of having him while he’s leaning down, and steal a kiss. It’s a short and quick peck, but enough to feed your urges for some more time. Rafe does the same to you, and you smile before continuing on with your conversation.
“How am I going to climb back into my room?” You ask him.
Rafe doesn’t answer right away.
“Good question.” He answers you, and you laugh in his face.
Your sober self would for sure worry about such things, probably even worry too much, but you’re too distracted with all that is going on in front of you. It took you hours to understand how much freedom you actually have at parties. You don’t need to hide in your bedroom with Rafe anymore. To seal in your celebrations of the matter, you cup Rafe’s face with your hands and kiss him all over again.
Rafe holds you close to him as you two kiss, and the familiar feeling of his hands holding onto you makes you feel like putty in his hands. Rafe’s hands stay there and don’t do much other than bring you closer. As soon as one of his fingers gets to move in between both your skirt and top, you are done.
Your body begins to warm up, and the familiar flame at the bottom of your stomach lights up. You, deeply lost in the kiss, let out a small moan against his mouth, one Rafe didn’t even hear properly due to the music and everyone’s voices, but he pulls away anyway. One look at your face, and he knows that he has to take you home.
“Let’s go home.” He tells you, and you whine out loud when he tries to move. “What?”
“Just one more.” You tell him, bringing your hands to his chest and playing with the fabric of his shirt in between your fingers.
Rafe takes a good look at your face, and you drunkenly offer him a pretty smile before giving him the extra kiss you so need - and stealing a few more in the meantime. You give him another and another and only pull away when feeling satisfied.
He’s the one that announces the two of you leaving. You two walk away from both his group of friends and the girls as you do so, and you’re the one, funnily enough, that takes the longest to say goodbye. You’re not sure, but you might have said that you loved them and much more as you left. The girls, drunker than you, screamed it back while hugging you tighter.
Rafe is the one that opens the space for the two of you to walk through the crowd. You hold his hand in the meantime, playing and moving with the golden ring on his finger. When outside, you shiver with the cold breeze.
There are some people smoking by the door when you walk out, and Rafe makes sure he helps you down the steps. You hold onto him due to his warmth, and the two of you silently make your way through the driveway of the large house. Surprisingly a lot of cars aren’t there anymore, even when the house is still full.
Rafe walks to your door first, unlocking the car and swinging the door open. You detach from his arm and take a look at the truck you’re getting in. Rafe stays behind you, and you walk on closer and, tiredly (and drunkenly), stare at your seat.
Only after much concentration, do you get inside the car, and Rafe closes the door after you. He goes around and gets inside the car as well. You put on your seatbelt and try to blink your sleep away as Rafe begins to drive off.
It hasn’t even been 2 minutes on the road, you turn to him and reach in for his pocket. Rafe looks down at your hand for a second before focusing on the road right after. You grab your phone and pull out gently.
As it’s out, you notice something else falling from his pocket. Innocently, you stare at it for a while before you put two and two together. A small bag of coke just fell out of his pocket.
You don’t say anything, but you do pick it up and put it back in his pocket. When you do it, you're stopped at a red light, and Rafe has been looking down at your hand this entire time. You notice him looking, and curiosity consumes you.
“Does it feel good?” You ask him, “To be high.”
Rafe stares at your face for only a few seconds before the light turns green.
“Yeah.” He offers you a grin, enjoying the innocence in your tone.
There’s a small moment of silence. You lean closer to the console, resting your chin on your fist. You stare at him for just a little bit, watching as the street lights light his face. Then, it’s another red light, making Rafe have to give you his full attention.
“Can you spend the night tonight?” You ask him.
“I don’t know. Might not be a good idea.”
“Why?” You ask in a sincerely hurt tone.
“You’re drunk.” He tells you, “We might make too much noise when coming in.”
You sigh out loud, making Rafe shine a little smile in amusement at your despair.
“Then, can we pull over? I don’t want to go home yet.”
You watch Rafe continue to drive for just a little bit and eventually pull over at the side of the empty road.
You get your seatbelt off, and Rafe does it as well. You move out of your seat and go over to his, sitting comfortably on his lap. Rafe stares at you even in the lack of light and, when sat down over his thighs, with your face illuminated with the moonlight, it doesn’t take long for either of you to begin the kiss.
The kisses are softer than at the party, and you relax entirely in Rafe’s lap. The kisses are sweet, and your mind has gone blank right as you feel Rafe’s hands on your thighs. They move up and down, squeezing the flesh from time to time and, most of the time, staying under the fabric of your skirt. You don’t ever come close to complaining.
The flame at the bottom of your stomach comes back full force when Rafe’s hand pauses a bit too high up on your thigh, by your underwear. You deepen the kiss and try to get closer to move your hips over him, but Rafe pulls you away softly, making you look at him confused.
“You’re drunk.” He whispers in your face, “I need to get you home.”
“But- Rafe.” You whisper back in a little whine, bringing your hand to his, the fabric of your skirt in between.
“You’re drunk.” He repeats simply and tries to ignore the way you look at him, “Tomorrow.”
“But tomorrow I’m going to be hungover.” You complain.
Rafe grins in amusement at your words and shakes his head at you before leaning back on his seat again. You follow him and try to kiss him, but Rafe never lets each kiss last more than just a few seconds. You grunt, very much annoyed to every degree, and sit back on his lap.
“This isn’t fair.” You whisper to yourself while looking out of the window. Rafe watches your dramatics with a smile on his face, and you easily get distracted by the nothingness of the outside. “But what if the both of us were drunk?”
“I’m not drunk.”
“And why not?”
“Because I didn’t drink as much as you did.”
“And why didn’t you?” You ask and Rafe continues to smile at your face. You’re so serious it’s almost like you’re drawing a theory on why he’s not having sex with you, as if that was a plan all along. “Do you hate me?”
Rafe chuckles. “No, I don’t hate you.”
“Feels like you do.” You whisper dramatically, making the man laugh yet again.
Rafe holds your face to give you a quick kiss, but that doesn’t clear your annoyed expression away. He moves his hand away from your thigh, and it almost makes you glare at him. Him and his annoyingly handsome face.
“You hate me.” You conclude before reaching over to your seat to grab your phone.
Rafe shakes his head, deeply amused, and watches as you grab your phone. You come back to his lap and check your notifications, still clear from anything to do with someone finding out your whereabouts. You discard your phone right after and lean in close to Rafe all over again. You purposely move your hips as you get closer, and he inhales sharply at that. You grab his hands and lay them over your hips again.
“It’s not going to work.” He tells you, “Whatever you’re doing. I’m not having sex with you.”
“Do you really not want to?” You ask while being so close, your noses almost touching.
“Of course, I want to, baby,” He whispers softly at you, “But you’re drunk. I can’t do that to you.”
“But I feel less drunk than when I was at the party.” You try, playing with the collar of his shirt.
As your hands stay busy with his shirt, Rafe wraps his arms around you and pulls you as close as he can, making you practically glued to one another. You look at his face.
“Less drunk isn’t sober.”
“But you also aren’t 100% sober.” You tell him.
He doesn’t say anything.
“What if you got high?” You offer him the option, “That would make both of us not-sober.”
He smiles at you and shakes his head.
“Please?” You say with your small pout, laying small kisses on his lips.
You give him countless kisses. There hasn’t been a day that you’ve kissed him so many times, but the need for you to have him touch you is out of this world. Deep down, you know he won’t go with what you’re saying, but you won’t give up just yet.
Rafe’s hand comes up to hold the back of your head, and he gives you a final kiss.
“Tomorrow. I’ll come and see you, okay?”
“What time?”
“Whenever you get up.”
“Then spend the night.” You whisper, “Please, please. I’ll do anything.”
He stares at your face for a little bit.
“Please…” You elongate the word against his lips before giving him one more kiss, “That’s all I want.”
“Fine.” He finally says, and you almost scream in excitement. “But you have to promise to not talk when we get inside your room.”
“Why?” You whisper, leaning a little away from his face.
“You cannot whisper when you’re drunk.”
I'M BACK!!

“She stares at her ceiling once again with a hundred thoughts,
‘Maybe he knows who I am, probably not.’”
Y/N laid in her room quietly, Olivia Rodrigo’s “enough for you” playing faintly in the background while she stared at the ceiling above her. School had just started two weeks ago and her feelings for Kook King Rafe Cameron had only intensified since then. Working for the school’s student services, she had been assigned to tutor Sarah, which left Y/N seeing Rafe more often than her heart could physically handle. The two of them hadn’t talked much, only sharing a few passing comments to each other while she confided in his home with Sarah. The reality of their relationship was that the older Cameron sibling probably hardly knew her name, however that did not stop her from harboring feelings for him from afar for almost two years.
“She walks down the hall with her head down low, scared to meet his eyes
Even when she hears his voice she's swarmed with butterflies”
The halls of the Kook Academy were crowded with girls in short skirts and crop tops and boys in polos and khakis when the bell rang for lunch. Y/N stopped by her locker to switch out her textbooks for the second half of her day, keeping her head low as she weaved in between the crowd. “Dude, I just don’t get it. I basically used Grammarly for the whole thing and I still got a C?” She could make out Kelce’s voice in all the commotion due to the volume of his outburst. A giggle slipped out of her lips as she slipped past him, knowing the teachers in this school know when the students use programs like Kelce’s to write their papers. “Sorry, Y/L/N, is something funny?” The boy stepped towards her, causing her to finally lift her head and meet the eyes of everyone who was around. Y/N’s eyes were immediately drawn to Rafe’s, and then fallen to the hand that gripped around Kelce’s arm, making him step back from the shy girl in front of him, “Man, leave her alone.” Her eyes met Rafe’s again as he smiled at her, causing butterflies to swarm her insides as she turned and walked away, leaving Rafe victim to Kelce’s teasing of his “crush.”
“It’s impossible to get you off my mind, I think about a hundred thoughts and you are ninety-nine
I’ve understood that you will never be mine, and that’s fine — I’m just breaking inside”
“You look so hot, Y/N,” Sarah complimented, curling the last piece of her own hair while Y/N stared at herself in the mirror. Sarah had insisted she come to the annual bonfire, and in return had offered to help her get ready. “Rafe is going to die when he sees you tonight.” Y/N thought her heart stopped right then and there. She spun around quickly, staring at Sarah. “What?” Sarah laughed, fluffing her hair as she stood up. “Y/N/N, you can’t hide that from me. I figure out everything.” Y/N sighed and made her way towards the door, opening it for Sarah to lead the way. “For what it’s worth, I think he’s got a thing for you too.”
—
The bonfire was not Y/N’s scene, to say the least. By the time her and Sarah arrived, many people were already wasted. The number of people in the small space was enough to send Y/N into fight or flight mode, but Sarah was quick to pull her into the crowd with a drink and start dancing. Several songs passed before Y/N found Rafe, who already had his eyes on her. She blushed, suddenly feeling very self conscious. Was this crop top too cropped? Has she danced too bad it’s been embarrassing? Is it obvious she doesn’t belong here? She must’ve been lost in her thoughts for some time, because next thing she knew, Rafe’s hands were resting on her hips, bringing her back to earth. “Anyone home?” He joked, tapping her hips with his fingers. She laughed lightly, her nerves flowing through her body. Rafe leaned into her ear, his breath warm against her cold skin, “You look really good.” This small compliment mixed with the alcohol coursing through her veins gave her a new found confidence. She smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck, toying with the hair at the nape of his neck. “You don’t look too bad yourself, Cameron.” Y/N swore she saw a faint blush on the notorious bad boy’s cheeks, but she would never be too sure, because as quick as their moment started, it ended. “Rafe! Beer pong let’s go!” Topper yelled from behind Rafe, a crowd cheering at the mention of Rafe’s name. The boy sighed and rolled his eyes. Y/N placed a hand on his chest, “Go,” she smiled, “You can find me later.” Rafe smiled at her before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “I’ll be back.” Y/N watched as Rafe ran into the crowd chanting his name, laughing as he turned around and pretended to have Topper “crown” him as the beer pong king before beginning their game.
—
An hour had passed when Y/N had begin to feel tired of chatting up random people from school. She had consumed a few more drinks while waiting for Rafe to come find her, however he never came. She decided to take things into her own hands and find Rafe herself. Standing from the log surrounding the bonfire, she swayed slightly as she walked around the small space searching for Rafe. She didn’t see him anywhere, so she had assumed he had left on his own accord. That is, until she heard whistling from Topper and Kelce. “Okay Rafey boy!” She turned quickly to see Rafe helping a skinny blonde from their calculus class into his car. Suddenly, her shoes were the most interesting thing at the bonfire. Y/N felt stupid for ever thinking Rafe cared or was attracted to her, and she felt even more stupid for thinking he was really going to come find her. “Hey,” she turned to see Sarah smiling at her sadly. “John B’s here to take us home,” Y/N cut her off, tears pooling in her eyes. “I’m going to go back to mine actually.”
“He always walks the crowded halls and is blinded by this light
A girl who keeps her head down low and never shows her eyes”
Rafe spent most of his time at school surrounded by an entourage. However, as of recently, his main focus hasn’t been the popularity or the girls flocking his way, but more so a specific girl: Y/N. He watched her in class while she worked ahead of the teacher, he noticed how she got anxious in the crowded hallways, he loved how she opened up while she hung out with Sarah after school. He had never felt so attached to a girl before, especially one he had hardly talked to. Something about Y/N just kept drawing Rafe in, making him want to be a proper gentleman and get to know her— all the weird little things and the seemingly unimportant things too.
“He tried to talk to her but there’s no easy way
‘Cause every time he raises his voice, she runs away”
“Y/N! Hey, wait up!” Rafe yelled down the hallway, running after the girl as she beelined it to her locker. “Y/N,” She opened her locker, shoving her books into it with a sigh. “What do you want, Rafe?” His eyebrows furrowed at her tone. He didn’t understand. At the bonfire, things had been going so good. Now, he could barely get the girl to glance in his direction. “Why are you avoiding me? I thought at the bonfire…” She cut him off, slamming her locker shut. “Yeah, I thought things at the bonfire were going good too, until you left me there to go off with some girl,” She shrugged, turning and walking away before Rafe could even respond. He ran a hand through his hair out of frustration. The reality of the situation: the girl from the bonfire was truly just a friend who was far too wasted and vulnerable to get home on her own, and Rafe recognized that and offered to take her home. He couldn’t blame Y/N for thinking otherwise though, seeing as he did have quite the reputation. He glanced once more in the direction she walked off into before going to meet the younger Cameron sibling for advice.
“Oh, it’s impossible to get you off my mind
I think about a hundred thoughts and you are ninety-nine.
I’ve understood that you will never be mine and that’s fine,
I’m just breaking inside”
Rafe spent the next few afternoons in the comfort of the country club with Kelce and Topper, avoiding his home at all costs until he was sure Y/N was done tutoring Sarah. He wanted nothing more than to go home and steal the girl from his sister so they could talk things out, but he knew that would ultimately make things worse, so he kept his distance. However, the phrase “distance makes the heart grow fonder” rang true, because Y/N was the only thing on his mind. By Wednesday afternoon, he finally gave in, going straight home from school. Wednesdays for Y/N and Sarah were typically their “relaxation” day before cramming for tests on Thursday, so Rafe expected to walk into the living room to find the two of you curled up on the couch. However, the house was oddly quiet and the driveway empty. He texted Sarah, asking where they were.
“John B’s. Be back by dinner.”
John B’s?
Y/N was at John B’s?
Rafe shook his head, opening Snapchat. He looked at Sarah’s story, a picture of her, Kiara and Y/N on the HMS Pogue. He smiled at how happy she looked. The next picture was one of Sarah in John B’s lap, with Y/N in the background sporting JJ’s hat and seemingly swatting at him while he reached to take it back. Rafe’s heart dropped slightly, staring at this picture a little longer than necessary. Maybe if he would’ve stayed with her at the bonfire, that could’ve been them. Now he had basically walked the girl of his dreams into the arms of JJ Maybank.
‘Maybe it’s better this way,’ He thought.
But maybe he didn’t want better.
“One day, maybe she’ll stay and start to head over his way
And one day, she’ll look into his eyes and instead of breaking, she’ll call him ‘Mine’
One day, he’ll grab her by the waist and force them to meet face to face
One day he’ll look into her eyes and say that ‘You’re my only light’”
His phone ringing at 1 in the morning woke Rafe from his sleep, not even bothering to see who was calling before answering. “It better be important if you’re waking me up,” He mumbled, rubbing his eyes. “Rafe, you’re too sweet sometimes, you know?” Rafe rolled his eyes, staring at the clock. “Topper, why did you call me?” His patience was wearing thin, but he knew Topper wouldn’t have called him without reason at this time of night. “I just wanted to tell you I just passed Y/N walking home by herself, I asked if she wanted me to give her a ride and she said no, but she looked pretty shaken up. I’ve still got an eye on her but I thought you might want to come,” Topper didn’t have to finish, the minute the girl’s name had fallen out of his mouth Rafe was throwing on a sweatshirt and slipping into shoes faster than he ever has before. His mind was running a million miles a minute.
Why was she out this late by herself?
Why didn’t she call someone?
Did something already happen?
Rafe grabbed his keys and sped to Topper’s shared location, slowing down once he saw his jeep ahead of him. “I’ve got her, man. Thanks.” He hung up before pulling his car off onto the side of the road. “Y/N,” Rafe spoke as he got out, loud enough that she could hear it was him and not startle her. She turned quickly, staring at him as he approached her slowly. “I just wanted to go for a walk,” she mumbled, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. “I didn’t mean to scare anyone.” Rafe nodded. “I’m not mad at you, but it’s late,” he spoke gently. He could see on her face she was upset and he didn’t want to make it worse. Y/N was looking everywhere but at him. She was nervous, embarrassed, everything in between. “Hey,” Rafe whispered, placing his hands on her waist like he did at the bonfire. Her eyes met his and he could read her like an open book. He saw the nerves. He saw the sadness. “Let’s get you home.”
-
The car ride back to the Cameron household was quiet, but not uncomfortable. Rafe kept one hand on the wheel and one locked in Y/N’s, glancing over at her every few minutes to make sure she was doing okay. Back at the house, he provided her clothes to change into while he grabbed some drinks for them. Y/N sat on his bed, preparing herself for what she was about to do. It was the reason for the walk, the reason for the silence in the car. Honestly, this could be an awful time to do it, but there was no turning back now. “Okay, so I’ve got chips, cookies, water, Pepsi, mountain dew,” “Rafe.” Y/N cut him off, staring at him as she sat criss crossed on his bed. He sat everything down and stared at her, encouraging her to continue. “This could be a bad time to tell you, but I like you. I went on that walk because I needed to get you out of my head but then you showed up so clearly it didn’t work and honestly I’ve liked you for a while, and you don’t have to like me back, oh no you’re laughing,” She cut herself off at the sight of Rafe chuckling and moving towards her. “Why are you laughing?” Y/N whispered as he got close enough that he could feel his breath on her skin. “Because,” Rafe smiled, “I like you too.”
