Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. (born October 20, 1971), also known by his stage name Snoop Dogg (previously Snoop Doggy Dogg), is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, media personality, and actor. His initial fame dates back to 1992 following his guest appearance on Dr. Dre's debut solo single, "Deep Cover", and later on Dre's debut album, The Chronic that same year. Broadus has since sold over 23 million albums in the United States, and 35 million albums worldwide. His accolades include an American Music Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and 17 Grammy Award nominations.
Produced entirely by Dr. Dre, Broadus's debut studio album, Doggystyle (1993) was released by Death Row Records and debuted atop the Billboard 200. Selling 800,000 copies in its first week, the album received quadruple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) the following year and spawned the Billboard Hot 100-top ten singles "What's My Name?" and "Gin and Juice". He was the lead performer on Death Row's soundtrack album for the 1994 short film Murder Was the Case, wherein Broadus made his acting debut. His second album, Tha Doggfather (1996), likewise debuted atop the chart and received double platinum certification.
In 1998, he parted ways with Death Row in favor of Master P's No Limit Records, through which he saw largely continued success with his albums Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told (1998), No Limit Top Dogg (1999), and Tha Last Meal (2000). He then signed with Priority, Capitol, and EMI Records to release his sixth album Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss (2002), which was further commercially oriented. This effectively continued upon him signing with Geffen Records to release his next three albums: R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece (2004), Tha Blue Carpet Treatment (2006), and Ego Trippin' (2008); the former spawned the single "Drop It Like It's Hot" (featuring Pharrell), which became his first to peak atop the Billboard Hot 100. He then returned to Priority and Capitol—upon his hiring as chairman of the former label—to release his tenth and eleventh albums, Malice 'n Wonderland (2009) and Doggumentary (2011), both of which saw mild critical and commercial response.
During this time, Broadus starred in films and hosted several television shows, including Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, Snoop Dogg's Father Hood, and Dogg After Dark. In 2012, following a trip to Jamaica, Snoop converted to Rastafari and adopted the alias Snoop Lion, under which he released a reggae album, Reincarnated (2013), and a namesake documentary film about his Jamaican experience.
His thirteenth studio album, Bush (2015), was produced entirely by frequent collaborator Pharrell, while his fourteenth studio album, Coolaid (2016), was released the same year as his induction into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame. In 2018, Broadus became "a born-again Christian" and released his first gospel album, Bible of Love in March of that year. In November of that year, Broadus was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2022, Broadus acquired Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group (formerly known as eOne Music), and released his nineteenth studio album, BODR (2022)—preceded by the independently-released I Wanna Thank Me (2019) and From tha Streets 2 tha Suites (2021).
The Washington Post, Billboard, and NME have called him a "West Coast icon"; and Press-Telegram, "an icon of gangsta rap". In 2006, Vibe magazine called him "The King of the West Coast". ABC News journalist Paul Donoughue, cited him among the 1990s acts that took hip-hop into the pop music charts. Broadus received the BMI Icon Award in 2011. In 2023, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Broadus popularized the use of -izzle speak particularly in the pop and hip-hop music industry. A type of infix, it first found popularity when used by Frankie Smith in his 1981 hit song "Double Dutch Bus". The Guardian's Rob Fitzpatrick has credited his album Doggystyle for proving that rappers "could reinvent themselves", expanding rap's vocabulary, changing hip-hop fashions, and helping introduce a hip-hop genre called G-funk to a new generation. The album has been cited as an influence by rapper Kendrick Lamar, while fellow rappers ScHoolboy Q and Maxo Kream have also cited him as an influence.

Oh snap it is top ten time! These are the ten greatest albums of all time according to Rolling Stone magazine. Are they right about these choices or are they complete fuckups? Thank God I'm here to tell you all about this shit.
#10
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill
Where to start? Miss Lauryn Hill deserves more. She was the star of the Fugees and her solo debut, this album, is one of the highest achievements in the genre of hip hop and soul but oh how suddenly halting your career will get people to stop talking about you. The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill is more than just a strong debut it is the perfect blending of hip hop and neo soul. It is what Hill started on The Fugees album The Score and makes it into something all her own. She switches between rapping and singing so fluidly that you don't even always notice it, but at the same time they don't sound anything alike. Hill is so beautiful with her rich contralto voice but when she switches to rapping she hits with an incredible staccato that usually contain copious Jamaican patois. But her style isn't what's new here, you heard her rap and sing on The Score after all. When given the freedom of an album all to herself Lauryn Hill gets deep into the politics of love, career, and family. And she comes at it from the distinct angle of a woman struggling to be successful in a male world. She talks about her pregnancy, the collapse of Fugees, past heartbreaks, she criticizes the hip hop industry, and she does it all without adopting the masculine kayfabe that most other female rappers of the 90s did. Lauryn Hill never once compromises her personal vision for her life and her music. And that's why she never followed this one up. She chose her family and raising a child over fame and if you listen to the lyrics on this album its obvious that she was gonna do that. I have to respect someone who has music as a passion and didn't want to fit that passion into a commercial box. Miseducation was always gonna be best as a one off thing and it is as good of a hip hop album as we are ever gonna get.
#9
Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks
1975, a decade after Dylan shook his fanbase by going electric. Bob Dylan had put out a couple good but not super successful albums with The Band but his career was realistically sundowning at this point. I suspect that this is a major factor in how Blood On The Tracks has been received over time. Receiving middling reviews upon release and then skyrocketing to the top of many best album lists in later decades. How uncool must it have been to admit that Bob Dylan released one of his best albums in 1975? Blood On The Tracks retains some of the production cleanness of his electric era, but the instrumentation is much more akin to his first few albums. Another thing that I think people may like about this album is that it is less lyrically obtuse than most other Dylan albums. That isn't to say that it's crystal clear straight forward storytelling but it isn't as cryptic as say A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall. Now here's the thing. I think Blood On The Tracks is a little overrated. It is a great album by a great artist, but it doesn't carry the sincerity or creativity of his earlier work. This isn't a new frontier anymore and while Dylan has matured as a musician it doesn't really change the fact that he's writing a bunch of songs about his marital troubles just like every other 70s rocker. Dylan just does it with a much better vocabulary and without talking about his penis. Still I would be a huge jackass to suggest that this is a bad album and if you, like myself, are horny for Bob Dylan's extremely long numbers then the song Lily, Rosemary, And The Jack Of Hearts is one of my favorites of his.
#8
Prince And The Revolution - Purple Rain
Oh yes. Fuck yeah! I couldn't agree more with this choice. Purple Rain is a completely transcendent album. Prince is always an immaculate performer but in Purple Rain he is just so much more extra. Every drum beat is more intense, every lyric more wild and sexual, the funk more unfettered. Prince screams in sensual agony constantly. His vocals dynamics more pronounced than on any other pop album ever recorded. And then there's the guitar. Did you know that Prince was one of the most skilled guitarists ever? He rips solos regularly in this album that put most metal guitar virtuosos sound like amateurs. Prince's career had done nothing but catapult from the very beginning and it all seems to have been building up to this moment. The bombast of the music, the flamboyant persona, the movie tie in to this fucking album. Prince had it all.
#7
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Can you even fucking imagine? You are in one of the greatest bands of the 70s, you are in the middle of a divorce and you're in the studio doing backup vocals on a song your ex wrote about how done she is with your shit. Being in Fleetwood Mac must have been wild. The two separate divorces that were happening while this album was being written really made for some of the best music of all time. It's not just breakup music either it's "I've moved past this" music, it's "I genuinely wish you well and hope we can still be friends" music, it's "you broke a sacred promise when you broke my heart and now I'm feral" music. All done in an intensely calm until it isn't calm anymore country/folk rock style. And it's all extremely catchy and memorable. From the eerily detached Dreams, to the jaunty Never Going Back Again, or the intense American gothic of The Chain and Gold Dust Woman. These songs are going to get stuck in your head. Fleetwood Mac were nothing if not accomplished songwriters and if that meant playing bass on a song about your ex's new boyfriend then godammit you better lay down a hell of a bass line!
#6
Nirvana - Nevermind
By all rights nothing should have propelled a band like Nirvana into the mainstream. They existed in a niche genre tucked inside of a niche genre. But something about Nevermind hit just the right chord with gen x. The music industry changed overnight with record labels rushing to sign and promote alternative artists and so the very notion of indie music went up in smoke for decades. If you think I'm being overdramatic or mythologizing too hard understand that this no name band of punk rockers knocked Michael Jackson off the top of the charts. The music industry of the early 90s was a very different place, major labels had the whole thing on lockdown, and this should have been an all but impossible move.
So what is this music that turned the industry upside down overnight? What is grunge? It really is just punk but with an anti-macho sensitivity and some influence from alt rock bands like R.E.M. and Pixies. It's lyrically witty and evokes both a fear of the mundane and a disinterest in the interesting. Cobain roasts mainstream audiences that have latched to alternative music (In Bloom), he paints a surreal portrait of middle class banality (Breed), and sings about the disenfranchisement of his generation (Smells Like Teen Spirit). What Cobain does that is interesting is always write from the point of view of who or whatever he is criticizing. Polly disturbingly portrays sexual assault from the point of view of the assaulter, Lithium has its main character be a Christian convert to show how religion can be a vice.
Musically Nirvana's brand of grunge is very punk, but there is a quiet loud dynamic that suggests, possibly coincidentally, emo as well. The distortion is heavier than almost any other alternative band and influence from recent tour mates Sonic Youth is probably partially responsible. Especially with the high wetness levels that the guitars frequently hit. There is also an undeniable hint of country twang that kind of permeates grunge music in this unstated way. You can certainly hear it on Polly and Come As You Are, but it's like an unseen specter surrounding all of Nirvana's music. I have a near infinite number of thoughts on the grunge movement and I may have let a few too many leak into what is supposed to be a review of a single album, but oh well, whatever, Nevermind.
#5
The Beatles - Abbey Road
With the impending breakup of the band looming over them The Beatles felt freer than ever before. The resulting album is in turn one of their happiest, their most unfettered, and probably their most unhinged. While there are a couple of relatively normal tracks in there, the love ballad Something, the dramatic Oh! Darling, or the sweet and hopeful Here Comes The Sun, a lot of the album is populated by weird shit. The jaunty murder ballad Maxwell's Silver Hammer truly feels like there was no point other than to go "hey wouldn't this be fucked up or what?" The nearly eight minute I Want You (She's So Heavy) is way too close to being stoner metal than anything by The Beatles should be and is my absolute favorite Beatles song. And then there are the surreal Because and Sun King the former of which is a psychedelic nightmare and the latter being much the same but with nonsense lyrics at least partially in Spanish for some reason. The musical diversity is very high with most of the songs on the first half of the record not sounding anything like each other. The second half contains a trilogy of medleys and is the more interesting half of the album in my opinion. You Never Give Me Your Money is split into three movements, which is such a McCartney move, and it transitions smoothly into Sun King. Then the rock n roll medley of Mean Mr. Mustard, Polythene Pam, and She Came In Through The Bathroom Window which all flow together so cleanly that they are essentially one song. I gotta respect the titular Mr. Mustard for shouting obscenities at the queen. What a legend. The final trilogy of songs that are also mixed together make up a sort of farewell for the band. They are clearly meant tow be the last song on the last Beatles album (Let It Be came out after but Abbey Road was the last recorded). So it's very funny that the album ends on an incomplete ditty that was accidentally tacked onto the record due to a clerical error.
#4
Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
The sessions for this album produced so many tracks that they couldn't even fit it all on a double album so it came with an extra 7" disc containing the last four songs. You'd definitely think an album that long would get tiring but no. Absolutely not. From the very first notes to the end, an hour and forty five minutes later, it is a masterpiece of 70s funk/soul. And even though the album runs longer than the average feature film when it ends you will be disappointed there wasn't more.
Wonder explores his main two sides, political activism and emotional maturity, to their fullest extent. The political side most ardently on Black Man, a song that argues for racial equality by listing the accomplishments of American men and women of all races and stating that we have all contributed to our society so we should all be treated equally. And on the emotional end Isn't She Lovely is the most beautiful and heartfelt love song ever written. Wonder wrote the song about his newborn daughter and her giggles can be heard in the recording. It is the sweetest thing I have ever heard.
#3
Joni Mitchell - Blue
Joni Mitchell's talent as a Singer cannot be overstated. She can jump octaves with apparent ease and move between smooth melodic phrases to cheeky staccato recitative in a heartbeat. She uses these beautiful vocal skills to lead us through ten confessional songs about heartbreak and breakups. As cliche as that sounds she has a beautifully poetic sense to her lyrics that help display a complex breadth of emotions.
Mitchell didn't just get more personal for Blue she also picked up some new musical tricks. She plays with open tunings on several songs l and makes notable use of the Appalachian dulcimer on Carey, California, and A Case Of You. Mitchell isn't quite in her jazz experimentation era yet, but a tendency for blues chords and improvised vocal flourishes show that it was always a part of her. Perhaps that buried sense of bluesiness trying to escape is reflected in the songs about trying to move on and escape.
#2
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
It's probably easy to look at Pet Sounds, see nothing more than some 60s pop rock and not think twice about it. What is it that has Pet Sounds always placing at or near the top.of these lists? Is it just some old men's nostalgia? Well, probably to some degree sure. But this is more than just an album with a disproportionate number of catchy hits on it. Brian Wilson was an eccentric perfectionist who constantly saw himself as being at war with The Beatles. The Beach Boys always had to be topping whatever The Beatles put out and they had recently released Rubber Soul, their first album that felt fully cohesive as an album. Brian Wilson stepped it up a notch adopting the theory of "the studio as an instrument". Every track on Pet Sounds is meticulously crafted from the writing to the performing to the mastering, and it manages to achieve a level of precision and perfection in every one of those fields that it cannot realistically be argued that it isn't a perfect album.
The albums arrangements feature some very interesting instrumentation, bike horns, and coke cans amongst the more traditional but still interesting tack piano, harmonium, and french horn. The album also features orchestral arrangements, but they are rendered in a more rock oriented style creating something in between doo wop and chamber pop. In terms of composition the tonality of most of the songs is vague. Few have a particular key and instead float around a tonal center. This contributes heavily to the albums dreamlike, hazy sound. The songs are so tight and focused though that the tonal vagueness just reinforces the emotional uncertainty of the lyrics. Meanwhile the drums, and instrument that you usually associate with, y'know keeping time, is used here to create texture rather than rhythm. The fills are used very tonally, almost like how Joe Morello approaches drum solos on Time Out.
Bringing it into the studio Wilson himself lead most of the production and was inspired by Phil Spector's wall of sound. What Wilson does that is not revolutionary by modern standard was make sure every song on the album was mastered in a way that made them sound like they all came from the same album. Compared to other albums from the era it made Pet Sounds seem more like a classical song cycle than a rock album. Nearly every artist followed suit which makes it impossible for us to really hear how unique Pet Sounds was at the time.
The only surprise about Beach Boys being at this place on the list is that it wasn't at number one.
#1
Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
"Mother, mother there's too many of you crying / brother, brother, brother there's far too many of you dying"
The opening line of this album is clearly as relevant today as it was in 1971. The whole album is writhing with fear and confusion over the state of the nation, Vietnam, the civil rights movement and the violent intersection between the two that saw US citizens shot dead in the street by their own government. Perhaps the fine line toed by What's Going On is best summed up by this quote from Four Tops singer and title track cowriter Obie Benson "My partners told me it was a protest song. I said 'no man, it's a love song, about love and understanding. I'm not protesting. I want to know what's going on.'"
The number one thing that What's Going On understands is that protest has to be an act of love. It doesn't spend as much time on the acts of police brutality as it does on the people actually affected. It talks about environmentalism because we need a planet for future generations to live on. Marvin Gaye sees everything that is going wrong and says 'we can get over this, it will be okay if we can work together to fix this'. Affected by the trauma his brother experienced in Vietnam Gaye made his protest album a concept album about a Vietnam veteran coming home only to find suffering and hardship.
Musically Gaye uses a lot of repeating motifs and lyrical phrases, especially the titular question of what's going on?, to link all the songs thematically. The songs all running together in a gospel soul song cycle.

Rapper XXXTentacion's life ended in violence.
XXXTentacion was proud to have fought from a young age and said that at the age of 6 he tried to fight a man who lived with his mother. Onfroy grew up in Broward County, Florida, which is densely populated and economically diverse, with many supermarkets lined with low-rise frame houses. XXXTentacion said his parents are Jamaican and also claimed on his personal Tumblr page that his ancestors were of Egyptian, Indian, German and Italian blood.
This chaotic journey is also reflected in his taste in music. When hip-hop magazine XXL hailed XXXTentacion as an upcoming talent with a cover photo in 2017, the rapper was asked about the artists who inspired him, naming a range of names from rock to punk, including Kurt Cobain, Papa Roach, Cage the Elephant and even the British band Coldplay.
"I'm more inspired by other artists than rap," said XXXTentacion. He's had a rebellious personality since childhood and XXXTentacion showed that with his looks. There are many photos of XXXTentacion with tattoos visible, such as a tree on his forehead, an elephant's head on his neck, and the word "Cleopatra". on the chest in honor of his mother, Cléopâtre Bernard. In
Bernard gave birth to a son Onfroy when she was only 17-18 years old and had to work hard to raise him 'restless'; Son. "My mother didn't mind taking care of me, so she just referred me to someone who could take care of me.I wasn't living in good circumstances at the time” XXXTentacion shared once. Then Onfroy realized his punches were an easy way to get his mother's attention.
"At school, I would fight with a lot of my classmates and say a lot of dirty things just to hear my mom yell or talk to me," XXXTentacion said.
Heavy fighting resulted in Onfroy being expelled from high school. At the age of 12 he lived mainly with his grandmother. In high school, Onfroy was arrested for armed robbery, possession of oxycodone pain medication, gun possession, and resisting law enforcement.
In prison, he wrote music that eventually became a hit.
However, XXXTentacion's life ended when he was shot and killed.
In March, XXXTentacion's second studio album "?" topped the Billboard 200. However, that success came at the same time he was awaiting trial in Broward, Fla. for brutally assaulting and jailing a pregnant woman, his girlfriend Geneva Ayala.Ayala told the Miami New Times about the horrifying attack.
Ayala revealed that she was repeatedly hit by XXXTentacion every three to four days during the summer of
in 2016. The rapper strangled her, tore off her clothes, hung her upside down and threatened to cut off her hair and tongue. XXXTentacion also stabbed her, slicing her face and holding her head under water.
XXXTentacion continued to be violent towards Ayala even after she was discovered by
in October 2016 that she was pregnant. That same month he was arrested and charged with assaulting a pregnant woman. However, he has always denied the allegations.
In addition to physically assaulting his girlfriend, XXXTentacion has also stirred controversy by arguing with viewers and hurling vulgar insults at Superstar Drake.
But legal troubles couldn't stop XXXTentacion's initial success. With the endorsement of SoundCloud and praise from rap stars like Danny Brown and A$AP Rocky, his reputation has steadily grown.
"Look At Me" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 2017. During this time, the rapper was constantly arrested and imprisoned for various crimes. When her debut album, titled 17, was released in August, it reached number two on the Billboard chart.
The album XXXTentacion "?" to the top of the charts and the single "Sad!" It was certified double platinum and reached the top 5 on the rap and R&B charts. From 2017 to date, 16 songs by XXXTentacion have made the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
When XXXTentacion was awarded by XXL magazine, a controversy broke out. "Should XXXTentacion be here? He should be in prison. He has a criminal record," Pitchfork asked in reference to the rapper's criminal record.

Busta Rhymes and Jamaica: Separating Fact from Fiction
Busta Rhymes, born Trevor George Smith Jr. in Brooklyn, New York, is a legendary rapper and hip-hop artist known for his fast-paced, energetic flow and unique style. With a career spanning several decades, he has become one of the most recognizable figures in the music industry. However, there has been much speculation and debate over his nationality, with many people questioning whether he is Jamaican.
The short answer to the question is no, Busta Rhymes is not Jamaican. Despite his use of Jamaican patois in many of his songs and his frequent collaborations with Jamaican artists, Busta Rhymes was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. His parents, both from Jamaica, immigrated to the United States before he was born, and he grew up in a household where Jamaican culture was celebrated and embraced.
Busta Rhymes has spoken openly about his Jamaican heritage and the influence it has had on his music. In an interview with Complex magazine, he explained that he grew up listening to reggae music and was heavily influenced by Jamaican artists such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Buju Banton. He also noted that his use of patois in his music was a way to pay homage to his Jamaican roots and to connect with his fans in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
Despite not being Jamaican, Busta Rhymes has maintained close ties to the island and its music scene throughout his career. He has collaborated with many of Jamaica's top artists, including Sean Paul, Elephant Man, and Bounty Killer, and has even performed at major reggae festivals such as Reggae Sumfest and Rebel Salute. His love for Jamaican culture and music has also been reflected in his music videos, many of which feature Jamaican dancers and showcase the island's vibrant culture.
However, it is worth noting that Busta Rhymes has been criticized by some for his use of Jamaican patois, with some accusing him of cultural appropriation. The debate over whether non-Jamaican artists should be allowed to use patois in their music is a contentious one, with some arguing that it is a form of tribute to the culture, while others see it as disrespectful and inappropriate.
In conclusion, while Busta Rhymes is not Jamaican, his music and his career have been heavily influenced by Jamaican culture and the island's music scene. His use of patois in his music has been both praised and criticized, but regardless of the controversy, it is clear that his love for Jamaica and its music is genuine. Busta Rhymes has become a cultural icon and his contributions to hip-hop and reggae will be remembered for years to come.

Jamaica Open Golf Championship
When the 56th Jamaica Open Golf Championship is held at picturesque Tryall Club just outside Montego Bay from October 29-31, the tournament will once again shine a spotlight on what makes this island nation such a unique golf destination.Jamaica has a lush topography of mountains, rainforests, and reef-lined beaches and if you are a tourist looking for spectacular golf, a range of other outdoor activities, wonderful weather, and a high-energy night life, then this is the place for you. Many of Jamaica's all-inclusive resorts are centered in or around Montego Bay, with its British-colonial architecture, while nearby Negril is known for its beautiful diving and snorkeling sites. The stunning 18-hole, 6,836-yard layout at Tryall Club, designed in 1958 by the renowned Texan golf course architect Ralph Plummer, has long been regarded as the best course in Jamaica and Ewan Peebles, Director of Golf at Tryall, has his own theory about what makes Jamaica such a special destination for golfers. The stunning 18-hole, 6,836-yard layout at Tryall Club, has long been regarded as the best course in Jamaica "There's an atmosphere, there's a vibe, there's an electricity on this island that I don't think you will find anywhere else in the region, and maybe nowhere else full stop," said Peebles, a Scot who has lived in Jamaica for more than two decades. "There is an energy to being on this island and that is mirrored when you go and play one of our golf courses. The authentic Jamaican hospitality and the smiles and the laughter and the way the Jamaican people find entertainment and find comedy in things that people from other places in the world might not. And it's infectious. "Add that to the fact that we've got four excellent golf courses in and around Montego Bay. You can go and play good golf courses just about anywhere on the planet. So, to say we've got good golf courses ... okay, okay, okay. The whole world can say that. But can the whole world say that you are going to have a real authentic Jamaican experience? There is a good chance you are going to develop a relationship with a caddie that will make a lasting impression on you. Things like a caddie chopping the top off of a coconut and pouring some rum into it, I don't think you get that in Phoenix, Arizona or Doral in Miami." For Peebles, the ultra-friendly service that guests at Tryall will receive from villa staff and caddies is perhaps the number one reason for Jamaica being such an unforgettable golf destination. "Tryall Club generally is renowned for warm Jamaican hospitality," he said. "We don't have a hotel here; we have 91 privately-owned villas, all of which are staffed with extremely warm, friendly customer service-oriented Jamaican people. And out on the golf course it's no different. Caddies are a big part of the golf experience here in Jamaica, and all golf courses have a caddy program. "For a few golfers who are not used to playing with caddies, initially that can be a little intimidating and a little daunting, but 99.9 percent of the time, by the time our caddies have got them to the first green or the second tee box, any apprehension and any unease has completely evaporated and our caddies are a big part of why our repeat business is as high as it is. A lot of people look forward to coming back to Tryall. They might like the villa but generally it's the villa staff who make the difference. And similarly, they might love the golf course, but they really love hanging out with that same caddie again. It's just a very warm authentic Jamaican experience." Tryall Club combines the island's hilly terrain with other natural elements for a unique golfing experience. The course has a storied history having hosted numerous international tournaments, including the Johnnie Walker World Golf Championship between 1991-1995. In 2005, Tryall Club was voted the Best Golf Course in the Caribbean-by-Caribbean World Magazine. Just a few kilometers east of Montego Bay are three more top-quality golf courses: White Witch, Cinnamon Hill, and Half Moon. Opened in 2000, the White Witch course was crafted on 600 acres of lush countryside, including mountainous terrain. Golfers are afforded panoramic views of the Caribbean Ocean from 16 holes and are best advised to be on guard against shifting winds. Cinnamon Hill, revamped by designer Robert von Hagge, features a front nine that makes its way close to a windblown beach while the back nine, which is overlooked by the massive Rose Hall plantation house, snakes up into the mountains. Half Moon, which like Tryall has also hosted the Jamaica Open, is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design known for its challenging green complexes and a daunting set of bunkers. The 18-hole course is located at the Half Moon Resort, which was named by Today’s Golfer as one of the Best Golf Resorts in the World in 2021. "With those four courses, Montego Bay is the golfing capital of Jamaica," said Peebles. "There are a couple of other good golf courses elsewhere on the island but, in terms of a golf vacation, if you are flying to Jamaica specifically to come and play golf, you would come to Montego Bay because that's where the highest number of courses are and that's where the best courses are." Jodi Munn-Barrow, President of the Jamaica Golf Association, has been playing golf since the age of 14 and she believes the preponderance of all-inclusive hotels with direct links to golf courses on the island is another bonus for tourists in Jamaica. "Most of the hotels on the North Coast are all-inclusive hotels - you pay just one fee, and everything is taken care of," said Munn-Barrow. "So, you wake up in the morning, you have your Blue Mountain coffee and sit on the balcony, you enjoy the view, you go down to the breakfast room and you have your buffet breakfast, which is huge. You can deposit your wife - if she doesn't play golf - at the pool or the beach or the spa, and you and your buddies can then head over to the golf course for your tee time. You enjoy your four hours of golf, your Red Stripe beer, for those who are beer drinkers, because we do have one of the best beers in the world, and we also have the best rum in the world in Appleton. "When you are finished, the shuttle will take you back to the hotel, you can meet your wife, whether she is at the beach or the pool, or pick her up from the spa, have a nice relaxing afternoon and then you head to dinner. And all of that is paid for with just one fee." Asked if there were any other activities away from the golf course that she would especially recommend to tourists on the island, Munn-Barrow replied: "Well, we have rafting on the Martha Brae River in Trelawny, and I would definitely recommend that. We also have waterfalls, so I would suggest going to either Dunn's River or YS Falls, which is on the Negril side. If you go up into the hills, we have eco-tourism so you can go birdwatching, etc. And if you are in Montego Bay, I would recommend doing our Rose Hall Great House night tour, which is a little bit scary because it is supposedly a haunted house, but it's also worth doing." Aqua Bay Resort returns as presenting sponsor of the Jamaica Open Golf Championship for the fourth consecutive year. The tournament serves to showcase its vast potential and the beauty of Jamaica and is also sponsored by the Jamaica Tourist Board and the Tourism Enhancement Fund, Digicel Business, and the Grand Palladium Hotel. Several other clubs have hosted the Jamaica Open Golf Championship since its inception in 1953. These include the Constant Spring Golf Club in Kingston (Jamaica's capital), Caymanas Golf Club in the parish of St. Catherine, and Half Moon Golf Course in Montego Bay at the western end of the island. 5 Jamaicans Named In Top 200 Best Singers of All Time by Rolling Stones

5 Jamaicans Named In Top 200 Best Singers of All Time by Rolling Stones
When Rolling Stone, the iconic five-decade pop music magazine, released its Top 200 Singers Of All Time on January 1, 2023, nobody would have been surprised to find at least a few prominent Jamaicans populating the list, which was topped by the likes of Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Billie Holiday, and Sam Cooke. While the list predictably included the reggae legend Bob Marley (at number 98), he was only the 3rd highest ranked of the magazine’s five Jamaicans.
The widely beloved and recently departed Toots Hibbert made the list at number 94. Three other Jamaicans with longstanding ties to VP Records were also included. The highest ranked of these was none other than the Crown Prince of Reggae, Dennis Emmanuel Brown, at number 67 (highest among all Jamaicans), who sat just behind and just ahead of contemporary Caribbean superstar Rihanna at number 68 and just behind David Ruffin of The Temptations, good company indeed. “His soulfulness was unimpeachable,” according to writer Michaelangelo Matos. This acclaim should come as no surprise, since Brown had been previously recognized by National Public Radio as one of the world’s 50 Great Voices in 2010.
Dennis Brown would see 13 LPs on VP Records and five on Greensleeves during his career – more than any other VP Music Group artist. VP paid tribute to Dennis Brown in 2016 with an all-star cast of performers revisiting his catalog. In 2018, VP released King Jammy Presents Dennis Brown Tracks Of Life, another tribute bringing the singer’s original master tapes back to life with new combinations.
According to writer Noah Schactman, ‘if an airhorn could sing,’ it might be comparable to the penetrating voice of Barrington Levy, ranked number 119 on the list. Levy’s career traces to the earliest years of VP Records. Three of the company’s first singles on its Roots From The Yard imprint in 1979 were Levy’s “Revelation,” “Collie Weed,” and “A Yah Me Deh.” After being a major force in the 1980s, Levy stepped up his game at the end of the decade and into the 1990s with his major hit covers of Bob ndy’s “Too Experienced” and “My Time.” VP released his definitive greatest hits anthology, Too Experienced, in 1998.
Also included on the list is one of Jamaica’s great voices of the 1990s and 2000s, Luciano. Writer Michael Goldwasser, who also produced the singer, says that Luciano has “a range that extends from a rich baritone up to a strong falsetto. And he’s a master of the lost art of harmonizing.”
Luciano stepped into the reggae spotlight after the tragic passing of Garnet Silk in December 1994, becoming the next champion of dancehall’s revived cultural sound. “Poor And Simple” from 1993 was his first release on VP, followed by “One Way Ticket” and “Jah Is Alive,” and the album One Way Ticket in 1994, all produced by Fatis Burrell for Xterminator. Luciano had major label releases through Chris Blackwell’s Island Jamaica in 1995 and 1996 but would reconnect with VP starting in 1999 with the outstanding Sweep Over My Soul. Eight more albums followed, including Serious Times in 2004 and its enduring anthem, “Give Praises.” Luciano has remained active, consistent, and relevant to the present.
VP offers congratulations to these five artists for this well-deserved recognition and for their exceptional legacies in bringing reggae and Jamaican culture to the world.

i sigh and push all those thoughts to the back of my mind. i threw my sketch books and gear in the car and drove off.
about 25 minutes later i sluggishly enter my cold apartment kick my shoes off, lock the door then proceed to my bedroom. i plopped down my lush king sized bed, looking at the ceiling lost in my thoughts of the full day i had and the next thing i knew i fell asleep.
i woke up around 10pm realizing i had fell asleep in my clothes, i reluctantly made my way to the bathroom where i ran the shower to get it nice and hot to my liking, while stepping in the air/steam relaxed me even more, damn this feels good, i needed this….

i couldn’t get her out of my head, i mean i’ve been with other women before, yea they were mostly in the police department but still. hell i’ve even had a girlfriend once upon a time.
it was something special about blaze, and i honestly think its because she a black woman.
to be honest i i’ve always been with a white woman or latin or asian and i don’t know much about black women or culture for that matter outside of rap & r&b music that i listen to.
or what the media sometimes portrays but im not one to judge and everything is not what it seems so i don’t stereotype people. i mean i wouldn’t have room to judge anyways im a mutant turtle for crying out loud. i sigh slumping in my chair, i don’t know what to do.

yea ok Donnie, im not the one who needs convincing , you’ve fucked only skinny white, latin,or asian woman only . you sure blaze isn’t just some fetish for you bro?
what!! of course not mikey i’ve only fucked those other women because thats all thats around us, people usually date who’s in close proximity to them you idiot. if more curvier women lived around here black woman included then maybe i would date them.
umm bro sorry to burst your bubble big bro but the thing is, black woman mostly definitely are around, and there’s alot that work in the police department to . open your eyes dude and admit you have a type he says laughing and walking away

I don’t know why I’m so nervous this man has me sweating like a hooker in church, not wanting to do too much I just do what drake said. put my hair tied up and chill with no make up on. and if he really fucks with me like he says then he’ll see that I’m beautiful naturally. but in the meantime all this planning gotcha girl hungry I think a quick meal will suffice nothing too heavy though, probably like a BLT with some chips because i don’t want the bubble guts on the first meet up.
time jump 7:28pm saturday night
(donnie pov)
hopping on the roof, i stare at the city below me, i got here with 3 minutes to spare. blaze should be here any minute now. well i might as well sit and wait and sing.
(start singing his version of ushers “nice N slow” )
its seven o clock on the dot im on the root top, looking at the city,….i’ve got a real pretty pretty black queen that im waiting to see, when she pulls up, ill be anticipating, her good looks, damn she’s amazing, i got plans to my hands on her waist, looking up to see if she’s really feeling me!! let me take you to the park where its quiet, there ain’t no one there to attack us, i can feel the rush, cuz i just wanna get to know you more…… blaze tell me what you wanna do
(blaze pov)
pulling up to the same spot i almost got robbed at made me uneasy, but since donnie was meeting me here i knew i was okay. i do one last look in my rearview mirror to look at my hair and face. and like i said earlier, I kept it chill and i put on my favorite black juicy sweatsuit & my black & white Jordan 12’s and my hair was in a messy bun. and i couldn’t forget my mouskatool. getting out the car i start to text donnie to let him know im here, when i hear singing and beautiful singing at that, i slightly walk into the alley where i hear the melody an look up to see my green bean singing what sounded like ushers nice and slow song
i didn’t want to startle him so i let him continue, & what i heard next made a shiver go down my spine, not only could he sing well but if im not mistaken he’s singing about… well me!! at least i hope he is. unless its about another black queen. not wanting to waste any more time I shoot him a text.
you sound amazing!….and am i a queen to you?
(donnie pov)
hearing my phone go off I figure blaze is on her way but to my horror i see,
**you sound amazing!….and am i a queen to you?**
which means not only was she here but she’s been here and not only has she been here she heard me singing and not just singing but singing about her. naturally my heart went to my ass and i felt my stomach tighten immediately. im so embarrassed. then i hear blaze say
**YO Rapunzel let down your hair! she says laughing. c’mon down here song bird or should i come up there?**
ummmm no ill come and get you give me a sec. i flip down and see blaze staring at me smiling at me with those beautiful grey eyes and she has cute button nose. wait when did she get a nose piercing? has that always been there?. man does she look stunning , i mean she’s effortlessly beautiful, her hair was in a messy bun and she had a simple but cute track suit on that hugged that body of her’s sheesh. baby got baaayyyack . snapping out of it i realize she’s leaning in for a hug, OH SHIT HUG HER YOU IDIOT*
hugging donnie i say, damn i didn’t know you had pipes like that green bean, you sound amazing. you remind me of a 90’s r&b singer,i love that. noticing he’s in a daze i snapped twice in his face, hello earth to Donnie are you there? “oh my bad blaze, sorry i got distracted. can you repeat what y said please?
shaking my head laughing i repeat myself. donnie i said your singing is amazing man. and what did you get distracted from that fast?
honestly blaze….. well..i got distracted by…umm… y-your beau…hmp…. I GOT DISTRACTED BY HOW BEAUTIFUL YOU ARE!!
going wide eyed by his raised voice and words , i just give a sly smile and say. like wise

About Karol G - the Woman who Rose to the Top of the Reggaeton World
One artist that I have been listening to non-stop lately is a Latin artist who goes by the name of Karol G. You may have heard her name as she has become famous not only in Latin America but globally. Karol G is a Colombian artist of mainly the reggaeton, Latin trap and hip-hop genres. Reggaeton is defined as a music genre that blends Jamaican influences of reggae music with Latin American dance hall music and hip-hop influences. Throughout her career, Karol G has collaborated with many well-known artists in Latin America, but in the U.S. as well, which have helped boost her to the global status she maintains now.
Her first hit was “Ahora Me Llama” (Now He Calls Me) featuring Puerto Rican trap artist Bad Bunny in 2017. She continued to produce more hits such as “Culpables” (Guilty) in 2018 with Anuel AA, another famous trap artist like Bad Bunny. There were rumors about her dating Anuel after they released that song, so by the end of 2018, the two released a song together confirming their dating relationship to the public called “Secreto” (Secret) which was another success. The two had a “power couple” status commonly compared to Beyonce and Jay-Z’s level in Latin America. Karol G continued to release more hits such as “China” in 2019, which was a collaboration with Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, Ozuna, and J Balvin - all who are popular Latin reggaeton/trap artists, “Tusa” (Heartbreak) with Nicki Minaj in 2019, “Bichota” (Bad B*tch) in 2020, “Provenza” (Provence) in 2021, and she featured in Becky G’s song “MAMIII” in 2022. To clarify, these are only some of her top hits which had charted the billboards and even won her Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, etc.
As we can clearly see, Karol G did not fail to stay relevant in the music industry since her breakthrough in 2017, with a new release or feature every consecutive year. However she did not immediately start out in the limelight when she began pursuing her music career. Karol G’s real name is Carolina Giraldo Navarro and she was born and raised in Colombia. She was first recognized for her musical talents when she performed on the Colombian version of The X-Factor in her country when she was 14 years old, and a few years later, she had her first record contract with Colombian company Flamingo Records and Puerto Rican company Diamond Music, and by then she chose her artist name to be Karol G. She released a few songs from 2007 to 2010 but they were not very successful, so she continued to study music at the University of Antioquia in Colombia. Karol G then traveled to Universal Studios in Miami, Florida where she presented her project but was rejected to be signed for a record due to her gender. Karol comments about it in an interview with PAPER magazine, "About nine years ago, I went to Miami for the first time; my parents got me a meeting [with the label]. I presented my project,’ she says, ‘and they liked it. But they said I could maybe be a songwriter, but a woman making reggaeton? That wouldn't work.’”.
This is because reggaeton has always been a male-dominated genre so not many women have become popular in the genre, with a few exceptions like Dominican artist Natti Natasha, Mexican-American artist Becky G, and Puerto Rican artist Ivy Queen, who became famous in the early 2000s and is known as the “Queen of Reggaeton”. However, it can be safely said that there are many more mainstream male reggaeton artists, like the artists I had previously mentioned. Even the “King of Reggaeton”, Daddy Yankee, who you have probably heard of before, is more globally known than the “Queen of Reggaeton”. In fact, I even asked my friend, who was born and raised in Dominican Republic until he migrated to New Jersey at 16 years old, if he knew who Ivy Queen was, and he said he did not know her, but of course when I mentioned I was writing about "reggaeton", the first person he thought of was Daddy Yankee.
However Karol G was not deterred by the rejection and continued to perform wherever she could back in Colombia with the support of her father, but by 2014 she moved to New York to try to boost her career in America again. Karol G saw an advertisement for business administration classes on the subway, which helped her learn more about the industry. From that time until she released “Ahora Me Llama” (Now He Calls Me) with Bad Bunny in 2017, Karol G released some more songs, one of them called “Ricos Besos” (Sweet Kisses) which was a hit in Colombia, and she signed with Universal Music Latino. Karol G created a strong foundation for her career which can explain how she is flourishing now as a global reggaeton icon and did not end up as a “one-hit wonder”.
I personally admire Karol G a lot because she is a strong advocate for woman empowerment and breaking the misogynistic boundaries of the reggaeton genre, which she has demonstrated through her rise to the top of the reggaeton world with songs confidently embracing her femininity and sexuality.
youtube
From just looking at some of the lyrics from her breakthrough song “Ahora Me Llama” (Now He Calls Me), Karol G states, “Yo soy dueña de mi vida, a mí nadie me manda” (I am the owner of my life, no one controls me). Marty Preciado of NPR Music describes this song as, “A bass-heavy, unapologetic trap anthem to the power of femininity, soiled in hi-hats and heavy sub-bass, the song challenges hegemonic masculinity, singing about respect, love and sex-positive decisions… Karol G confidently states about the ownership, control and enjoyment of her life, femininity and sexuality.”
youtube
Another one of her biggest hits, “Tusa” (Heartbreak) became a global anthem for women, as the reggaeton song is about a woman trying to get over her ex and heal and to remind her to “know her worth”. The collaboration with Nicki Minaj, who has been globally known as the "Queen of Rap" for years and is never ashamed to express her sexuality and boost confidence in fellow women, makes the song an even more powerful piece of motivation to help women move on to bigger and better things.
youtube
Karol G’s song, “Bichota” (Bad B*tch) is another viral anthem of femininity where she created her own unique term from Puerto Rican word “bichote” which means “a powerful drug dealer”, to “a strong and empowered woman”. She explained further in an interview on the “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon, “I wanted to create a ‘bichota’ but its meaning is going to be: a bitch boss girl, powerful, great, incredible, doing her things by herself, you know?”.
youtube
The last track that I think really shows Karol G’s support for women is not a part of any of her albums, since she was the featured artist, but “MAMIII” by Becky G is a reggaeton track about female empowerment for ending a toxic relationship, which many women can relate to.
I think these four songs that I mentioned were really unique in the reggaeton genre because since it is such a male-dominated genre, there are not many reggaeton songs about women ending toxic relationships or female empowerment. In fact, it is a very common trend in reggaeton for male artists to over-sexualize and objectify women in their songs instead, so the fact that Karol G made all these four songs that basically diss men and motivate women into hits, shows that the genre is moving in a new direction.
Altogether, Karol G is such an inspiring icon for women, proving that she overcame barriers due to her gender by making a name for herself in a genre that has barely been touched by women. I think it is important to recognize that she is truly changing the industry through her consistent billboard chart-topping hits, her creation of “bichota”, a new female-empowering term, and just her overall loyal global fanbase. In fact, the same company that rejected Karol, Universal Studios, actually offered her a contract 7 years later because of her global status, so I think she is living proof that anything is possible with hard work and dedication.
I would like to end this blog post with a motivating quote that Karol G said in an interview with the LA Times, “For years, I heard that women do not do reggaeton. Reggaeton and urban music belong to men, but as a woman, you belong to men. Now women are on another level. We are well prepared to lead. We've earned it and we're going to fight for it”. Hopefully we can continue to see Karol G progress with even more hits and be able to break the boundaries of reggaeton with her large influence. If you would like to take a listen to some of Karol G's music, I have linked her Spotify playlist below!

Antoine Dominique Domino Jr. (known as Fats Domino) was born on February 26, 1928. He was an American pianist and singer-songwriter. One of the pioneers of rock and roll music, Domino sold more than 65 million records.
Between 1955 and 1960, he had eleven Top 10 US pop hits. By 1955 five of his records had sold more than a million copies, being certified gold. The Associated Press estimates that during his career, the artist "sold more than 110 million records and the Grammy organization states that Domino landed 37 songs in the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 throughout his career, including 11 that peaked inside the Top 10".
His humility and shyness may be one reason his contribution to the genre has been overlooked. The significance of his work was great however; Elvis Presley declared Domino to be "the real king of rock ‘n’ roll" and once announced that Domino "was a huge influence on me when I started out".
Four of Domino's records were named to the Grammy Hall of Fame for their significance: "Blueberry Hill", "Ain't It A Shame", "Walking to New Orleans" and "The Fat Man". "The Fat Man" "is cited by some historians as the first rock and roll single and the first to sell more than 1 million copies".
Domino was one of the biggest stars of rock and roll in the 1950s and one of the first R&B artists to gain popularity with white audiences. His biographer Rick Coleman argues that Domino's records and tours with rock-and-roll shows in that decade, bringing together black and white youths in a shared appreciation of his music, was a factor in the breakdown of racial segregation in the United States. The artist himself did not define his work as rock and roll, saying, "It wasn't anything but the same rhythm and blues I'd been playin' down in New Orleans."
Domino was also an important influence on the music of the 1960s and 1970s and was acknowledged as such by some of the top artists of that era. Elvis Presley introduced Fats at one of his Las Vegas concerts, saying, "This gentleman was a huge influence on me when I started out." Presley also made this comment in a 1957 interview: "A lot of people seem to think I started this business. But rock 'n' roll was here a long time before I came along. Nobody can sing that music like colored people. Let's face it: I can't sing it like Fats Domino can. I know that."
Both John Lennon and Paul McCartney recorded Domino songs. According to some reports, McCartney wrote the Beatles song "Lady Madonna" in emulation of Domino's style, combining it with a nod to Humphrey Lyttelton's 1956 hit "Bad Penny Blues". Domino also recorded the song in 1968. Domino returned to the "Hot 100" chart for the last time in 1968, with his recording of "Lady Madonna". That recording, as well as covers of two other songs by the Beatles, appeared on his Reprise album Fats Is Back, produced by Richard Perry and with several hits recorded by a band that included the New Orleans pianist James Booker.
Domino was present in the audience of 2,200 people at Elvis Presley's first concert at the Las Vegas Hilton on July 31, 1969. At a press conference after the show, when a journalist referred to Presley as "The King", Presley gestured toward Domino, who was taking in the scene. "No," Presley said, "that's the real king of rock and roll." About a photograph made of him and Elvis together, Mr. Domino said: "Elvis told me he flopped the first time he came to Las Vegas. I loved his music. He could sing anything ... I'm glad we took this picture." (Fats Domino (2002). "Music Pioneer Fats Domino Talks About Elvis." Retrieved from "USA Today." December 10, 2002.)
Domino received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987.
John Lennon covered Domino's composition "Ain't That a Shame" on his 1975 album "Rock 'n' Roll," his tribute to the musicians who had influenced him.
American band Cheap Trick recorded "Ain't That a Shame" on their 1978 live album Cheap Trick at Budokan and released it as the second single from the album. It reached 35 of the Billboard Hot 100. Reportedly, this was Domino's favorite cover. It remains a staple of their live performances, including at their 25th Anniversary concert (which was recorded as the album and DVD Silver) and at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
The Jamaican reggae artist Yellowman covered many songs by Domino, including "Be My Guest" and "Blueberry Hill."
Jah Wobble, a post-punk bassist best known for his work with Johnny Rotten, released a solo recording of "Blueberry Hill".
The Jamaican ska band Justin Hinds and the Dominoes, formed in the 1960s, was named after Domino, Hinds's favorite singer.
In 2007, various artists came together for a tribute to Domino, recording a live session containing only his songs. Musicians performing on the album, Goin' Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino, included Paul McCartney, Norah Jones, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and Elton John.
According to Richie Unterberger, writing for AllMusic, Domino was one of the most consistent artists of early rock music, the best-selling African-American rock-and-roll star of the 1950s, and the most popular singer of the "classic" New Orleans rhythm and blues style. His million-selling debut single, "The Fat Man" (1949), is one of many that have been cited as the first rock and roll record. Robert Christgau wrote that Domino was "the most widely liked rock and roller of the '50s" and remarked on his influence:
Warm and unthreatening even by the intensely congenial standards of New Orleans, he's remembered with fond condescension as significantly less innovative than his uncommercial compatriots Professor Longhair and James Booker. But though his bouncy boogie-woogie piano and easy Creole gait were generically Ninth Ward, they defined a pop-friendly second-line beat that nobody knew was there before he and Dave Bartholomew created 'The Fat Man' in 1949. In short, this shy, deferential, uncharismatic man invented New Orleans rock and roll.
Domino's rhythm, accentuating the offbeat, as in the song "Be My Guest", was an influence on ska music.
Domino died on October 24, 2017, at his home in Harvey, Louisiana, at the age of 89, from natural causes, according to the coroner's office.
On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Fats Domino among hundreds of artists whose material was reportedly destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire.
