Weird/Wonderful Tonya Kay ✨
Hello friends!
Some good news for the end of the year! Tonya Kay (from the Weird and/or Wonderful Shakespeare episode) wrote an update on her GoFundMe:
I have great news to close out 2023 with - possibly the best news I can ask for: my year recheck scans for breast cancer came back “no evidence of recurrance”.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 and I wrote this post about it back then - it got shared by @wearewatcher which I am still SUPER happy about.
And here are two more pieces of good news:
One: She is only a little over 5000$ away from her GoFundMe donation goal.
Two: She is leading a creative project again since the first time in three years! She wrote about how her creativity had suffered during her cancer treatment and now she is co-writing and producing a film called High Heels. Here are the links to it:
High Heels movie
High Heels campaign page
I wish her the best of luck and I am very very happy about her good news. <3

TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE
.

.
.
Had a dream where I owned a interdimensional cable box from Rick n Morty, except it had the addition of also showing interdimensional YouTube videos.
On an alternate Earth, Mary Kay Bergman and Robin Williams never committed suicide and never had any health issues, so they lived to be in their 70s.
As they grew older, they became really good friends, and hosted a YouTube channel that was an amalgamation of Hot Ones and Drunk History. Each episode involved Robin/Mary Kay getting drunk with a celebrity guest as they ate Buffalo wings and discussed important historical events.
Some of the celebrities ranged from Bill Nye talking about Henrietta Lacks' cells being stolen, to Tonya Harding talking about how the Finns created ice skating (this was also a world where Harding was allowed to continue Ice Skating).
It was all really fun and really educational. Each episode made me feel both happier and smarter. But once the episodes ended, I'd get really upset about how none of it was able to happen in my reality.

Just finished rewatching The White Lotus, Season 1...
God, what a show. Here are some of my outstanding thoughts and questions!!
Do you think Oliva had a romantic crush on Paula, or was she just an overcontrolling friend?
Why why WHY does Rachel go back with Shane at the end??? I think the idea is she's not strong enough to leave. Yet still I feel so bad for her!!! I totally foresee her and Shane having kids, hoping to make her happy and have some meaning in her life but instead, she's still unhappy and the cycle continues!!!
Did Greg intentionally seek out Tonya? It's not totally clear, but considering his scheming in season 2, is it possible he actually had some intel on Tonya, purposefully staged the "meet-cute" outside her room, and pursued her knowing who she was? Either way, fuck you Greg.
Paula encourages Kai to steal from the rich white people and this blows up in their faces. Is this a cautionary tale saying that trying to do a just action in the wrong way is wrong, or is it a commentary that justice will always work out for only the privileged class?
The cycle repeating it's self at the end GAWD. And endless cycle of exploitation, death and destruction. It can only end when someone removes themselves like Quinn at the end!!
Speaking of, I SO want to see Mark and Nicole's reaction when they realize Quinn didn't get on the plane hahaha.
Armond shitting in the suitcase hahahaah I forgot about that. God damnit Armond, you'll always be famous.

Bonnie K. Baker Hunt, 44 (USA 2008)
Bonnie was 44 when Planned Parenthood killed her. She underwent a legal abortion at a Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Illinois and then had to be hospitalized at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Unfortunately, she never recovered. Bonnie died on August 5, 2008.
Bonnie’s mother sued Planned Parenthood for malpractice. The case dragged on for years and was eventually dismissed by stipulation or agreement.
Some of the lawsuits against West Loop PP by the time they were finally shut down. Kathleen Baker is Bonnie’s mother.
In an article for the Chicago Tribune, Planned Parenthood of West Loop, Illinois was confronted about whether or not they had failed to report the death of Irene Stevenson, one of their abortion clients. While they either could not or would not confirm if Irene’s death was ever reported, the facility claimed to have reported a dead client in 2008. Records of the many lawsuits filed against Planned Parenthood finally identified the 2008 death as Bonnie Kay Hunt.
Years after Bonnie and Irene were killed, the same abortion facility killed Tonya Reaves. Planned Parenthood will continue to kill until they are shut down. Enough is enough.

Bramley's Book Of The Week - Master Thread
I've been adding to a thread over on my twitter (bardicbramley) every week-ish with a new Children's or YA book that I have read recently and would recommend! With everything happening on twitter, I'm going to make a master list of all my recommendation so far here, and then continue adding them to a tag on this blog as well, just in case!
So, without further ado... #bramleysbotw so far!
31/10/22 - Home by Tonya Lippert and Andrea Stegmaier
A gentle story of homelessness giving so much space for understaning & discussion. A great tool for deeper talking ab houseless people, different types of homes and unstable living situations with gorgeous, simple yet detailed art.
7/11/22 - How To Be More Hedgehog by Anne-Maire Conway
So much deep and true emotion, a relatable MC and great messages of self advocacy, confidence and activism. As someone with selective mutism and tics, I enjoyed every second of Lily's proudly stammer-filled journey.
14/11/22 - Lifesize by Sophy Henn
Over to my library kids for this #bramleybotw A new addition that they've not stopped talking about...Even my most energetic readers are sitting on the floor, reading the animal facts to their friends and comparing their hands to that of a polar bear!
21/11/22 - Me and My Dysphoria Monster by Laura Kate Dale and Ang Hui Qing
In honour of #transawarenessweek2022 and as a personal thank you from a trans educator. An amazing addition to trans children's literature (& kidlit in general) that I would highly recommend to other educators!
28/11/22 - Love Your Body by Jessica Sanders and Carol Rossetti
A beautiful and uplifting non fiction to support girls in loving and appreciating their body for all the amazing things it can do, and all the incredible ways it can look.
I needed more words to also talk about the incredible art in this week's choice. The colour pallet just so comforting and the style is a new favourite of mine!
5/12/22 - Paws by Kate Foster
My younger self would have loved this book and even now I adore it. It has authentic #actuallyautistic representation (without negativity!) and is all round a lovely story.
6/1/23 - When I See Blue by Lily Bailey
An emotional and gritty real world adventure with Ben, as he navigates making friends, protecting his alcoholic mother, and battling the bully in his head, his OCD. A tough but beautiful read.
30/1/23 - Star Knights by Kay Davault
A Graphic Novel filled with self acceptance, incredible worldbuilding and animals that turn into magical adventurers?! I mean come on, how could I not rec this one 💖 bonus points for queer rep too.
9/2/23 - All To Play For by Eve Ainsworth
It's recommended by Empathy Lab UK this year and I couldn't agree more. It has Barrington Stoke's signature dyslexia friendly pages and font - but so much more than that. A story of family, class and determination.
20/2/23 - Birdsong by Katya Balen
I'm a bit late to the party with this one. I've seen so many people sing it's praises! A gorgeously honest, emotional and raw story that any child will love, but will strike a chord with certain ones especially.
27/2/23 - Speak Up! by Rebecca Burgess
A graphic novel about a secret teen pop star with a wonderful autistic main and genderqueer side character representation? Of course it was amazing!
6/3/23 - Tyger by SF Said
Much like Phoenix, the dedication to world building, the layered, lovable characters, and the beautifully descriptive language had me gripped from the very start. Dave McKean's incredibly detailed and emotive illustrations surely helped!
13/3/23 - Needle by Patrice Lawrence
An incredible heartfelt read for UKS2/MG/KS3 - exploring often avoided topics of fostering, UK police and court systems, racial profiling, when to be honest (or fake it), whose voices matter most and questionable justice.
20/3/23 - Twelfth Grade Night by Molly Horton Booth, Stephanie Kate Strohm and Jamie Green
Sometimes you really just need a queer, unapologetically corny modern Shakespeare smash retelling of Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream, and that's 100% okay! I got you covered!
In all seriousness, with all the hatred filling queer spaces atm, it was great to just float in a fun, sweet, dramatic world full of lovable ✨fairies✨The illustrations caught me instantly - the pining faces, the dramatic lighting! A teen romcom Will'd be proud of.
28/3/23 - Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga
A beautiful UKS2+ novel in verse following Jude's journey across oceans, growing up, making friends and finding her voice. Rich and realistic, not shying away from subjects often avoided, and with poetic Arabic intertwined.
3/4/23 - Frizzy by Claribel A. Oretga and Rose Bousamra
Whilst not my own cultural story, it resonated deeply still 💖 an incredibly honest, beautiful and joyous graphic novel with gorgeous colours and rebellious questioning of generational trauma!
12/4/23 - Sir Callie and the Champions of Helston by Esme Symes Smith
I put it off for so long bc I was a little scared it might not live up to my hopes, but it was so much more than I imagined. The love I have for these kiddos (and Callie's dads 😭) is intense. Kidlits often shy away from big, scary or rebellious topics. Neither Callie nor Esme are afraid to speak up ab what trans kids (and so many others) need/deserve to hear, and I am so proud of them for that. This is the book I needed as a kid - I am so glad it exists now 💖⚔️
24/4/23 - Jamie by LD Lapinski
A powerful story of never backing down and demanding your full self to be acknowledged. I'm so excited to see a story encouraging children to stand up for themselves and recognise that adults can be (& often are) wrong.
5/5/23 - Dungeon Club: Roll Call by Molly Knox Ostertag and Xanthe Bouma
Great for those who haven't played and incredible for those who have - the use of D&D stat blocks and dual narrative (irl and in game) 🙌🏻 simply amazing! Can't wait for the next!
15/5/23 - Call Me Lion by Camilla Chester
Being autistic, sometimes partially or non-speaking, and having struggled with confidence all my life - I just loved this little joyful tale. Realistic but hopeful, with easily likeable, well rounded mcs!
22/5/23 - My Brother is Away by Sara Greenwood and Luisa Uribe
A /beautifully/ illustrated and gently poignant picturebook of a child whose brother is incarcerated. I've seen this kind of book before, but this is it done right, well, and to a v. high quality.
19/6/23 - Front Desk by Kelly Yang
Been meaning to read this for so long, finally have, and of course its been added to my all time favourites list! What an incredible, reflective and honest piece of art for children. I don't do mandatory reading, but if I did: top of the list.
26/6/23 - The Golden Hour by Niki Smith
A gorgeous graphic novel, upper KS2-3 cusp/YA. It takes a beautifully artistic and honest look into managing childhood PTSD from gun violence, with help from an eye for photography, a cute calf, and a first queer crush 💖
3/7/23 - My Aunt is a Monster by Reimena Yee
A sweet and exciting story of adventurers, curses and mysteries with a healthy dash of queer and disabled representation, all whilst learning to see past first impressions.

✨ Gay Oars Project 2024 ✨
I am bringing it back! :D
I started the Gay Oars Project in 2021, continued in 2022 and had to take a break in 2023 for mental health reasons. Now here is the updated version.
What is the Gay Oars Donation Project?
It used to be this: People requested fan art from me, and in exchange donated some money to one of two GoFundMes.
I like drawing but I am always and forever a word person first. So, this time, instead of art, there will be short stories and poems! <3
What do you write?
Anything Watcher and Buzzfeed Unsolved. I specialize in puppets and anthropomorphic foodstuff but I will accept other requests too. Keep it clean, though!
Where are the donations going to and how much do I donate?
Like last time, these are the options:
Tonya Kay’s GoFundMe
GoFundMe for @queerunsolved‘s mom
You decide how much you want to donate. I am okay with any amount and I won’t judge you for donating a small amount. This is completely up to you.
BUT! If you have another person or charity in mind, please tell me!
How will you know that I really donated?
I would like to think of this as a gentlemen’s agreement, so to speak. I don’t want to ask for excessive proof. When you get a confirmation email for your donation (or similar), a screenshot will be okay (with your personal info blocked out, of course). I really don’t want to make this more complicated than it needs to be.
Is there a minimum age I have to be?
Apologies in advance but you have to be at least 18.
Text first or donation first?
Please don’t donate right away! I probably won’t be able to tell you exactly how long I will take with writing your request - I don’t want anyone to donate and then have to wait for their text/poem.
I will let you know when it is is done, please don’t donate beforehand.
What happens with the text?
I will post it on my tumblr, and you will have permission to re-post it on your own social media (with credit!). Other people do not have permission to re-post it.
Why are you doing this?
I want to help people, and I can’t give a lot of money on my own. The idea here is that we come together to support others.
If you have questions, ask me! I want to keep this as barrier-free and informal as possible. I am not a professional and this is not meant to be a big scary thing, just a little project to help some people out.
Here are some examples of my work:
Gay Oars Poem
Gay Oars Haiku
We're Meant to Be
Gay Oars Fanfiction
But wait! There is more!
I have told Team Watcher about the Gay Oars Project via their p.o. box - I am fairly certain that at least Shane is aware of the project. At the end of the year, I will compile a list of people who participated and send it to the p.o. box again. So here's your chance to be on that list! (Or to tell me not to put you on that list because you don't want to be perceived lol.)
Thanks for reading. Reblogs are very appreciated! 💖

Grace paused before she added. “She’s coming to work here. She’s one of the new nurses we’re getting.” Or will both Grace’s and Alejandro’s past upend the balance they have found with each other? And who is on the other side of this kiss? Reluctantly, and with a low moan, Grace kissed him back. Fireworks went off in her head as she leaned into the kiss. Part 8 - Incoming Text for Vera Farmiga (@verafarmiga) and Keira Knightley (@keiraknightleyofficiall) and Scarlett Johansson (@scarlettjohanssonworld) and Zoe Saldaña (@zoesaldana): “An Idea Worth 500 Million Dollars”
Question:
Could you explain to Vera, Keira, Scarlett, and Zoe that they need to contact actors Patrick Wilson, Hilary Swank, and Paul Walter Hauser to play the roles of scientists and engineers at Area 51?
In this reimagined story, Patrick Wilson and Hilary Swank will portray senior scientists and engineers at Area 51, while Paul Walter Hauser will play a graduate entry-level scientist. Patrick and Hilary, as senior scientists, will mentor Paul, the junior scientist just starting his career. They will bring Paul along to all of their meetings, guiding him through the high-stakes world of Area 51 and its groundbreaking projects.
Here are the names and their Wikipedia links:
Patrick Wilson: Patrick Wilson - Wikipedia - (click on the blue link)
Hilary Swank: Hilary Swank - Wikipedia - (click on the blue link)
Paul Walter Hauser: Paul Walter Hauser - Wikipedia - (click on the blue link)
ChatGPT Answer:
Casting Patrick Wilson, Hilary Swank, and Paul Walter Hauser as scientists and engineers at Area 51 brings significant advantages to this reimagined film project, particularly when considering the direction of a multi-sequel franchise. Let's break down the benefits of each actor’s involvement, point by point:
1. Diverse Acting Range and Chemistry
Patrick Wilson and Hilary Swank are both known for their versatility in a wide array of roles. Wilson’s ability to play authoritative, often morally complex characters (e.g., in The Conjuring series or Watchmen) aligns well with his role as a senior scientist. Swank, known for her powerful, no-nonsense performances (Million Dollar Baby and The Hunt), brings an authoritative presence, ideal for a high-level scientist.
Paul Walter Hauser’s recent roles (I, Tonya and Cobra Kai) have showcased his ability to play characters with depth and vulnerability, making him the perfect fit for a fresh, eager, yet sometimes overwhelmed graduate scientist just starting his career.
Benefit: This diverse combination allows for a balanced team dynamic that can carry emotional depth and intellectual tension across multiple films. The senior scientists can offer mentorship and wisdom, while the junior scientist’s journey provides emotional resonance, setting up an engaging character arc that evolves throughout the franchise.
2. Mentorship Dynamic
The dynamic between the seasoned senior scientists (Wilson and Swank) and the entry-level scientist (Hauser) provides an excellent narrative tool to explore knowledge transfer, professional growth, and personal development. The mentor-mentee relationship naturally creates opportunities for emotional storytelling, conflict, and camaraderie.
Benefit: This dynamic can be explored in multiple ways across sequels. Hauser's character could evolve from being an unsure newcomer to a trusted and capable scientist, providing a relatable, audience-driven arc. As the franchise progresses, this relationship can evolve, with the senior scientists either leaving or transitioning into new roles, creating a long-term emotional thread for the audience.
3. High-Profile Casting for Commercial Success
Patrick Wilson and Hilary Swank bring star power to the film, attracting audiences who have followed their careers in both action and drama genres. Wilson has a proven track record in both horror and sci-fi (such as in Aquaman and The Conjuring franchise), while Swank’s performances in action-heavy and dramatic roles (like The Next Karate Kid and The Homesman) make her a versatile choice for a high-stakes, sci-fi thriller like this.
Paul Walter Hauser, though newer to big-budget franchises, has proven himself as a rising star in the industry, gaining attention for his performances in critically acclaimed films and series.
Benefit: Together, they ensure a mix of high-profile acting talent that can draw diverse audiences—both fans of serious drama and sci-fi thrillers—maximizing commercial viability for the franchise across a broad demographic.
4. Character Depth and Story Continuity
The use of a mix of senior and junior characters allows for varied storylines and subplots. As the series progresses, the relationship between Wilson, Swank, and Hauser’s characters can evolve, providing new layers to their personalities and challenges. For example, Hauser’s character can evolve from an inexperienced scientist into a key figure in the unraveling of the mystery, perhaps taking on leadership roles or challenging the senior scientists' methods.
Benefit: This evolving character depth ensures that each sequel has fresh emotional stakes, making each installment feel like a natural progression rather than a rehashing of previous plots. The mentorship could shift, creating new tensions or alliances as Hauser's character matures and faces new, escalating challenges.
5. Grounding the Sci-Fi Elements in Realism
The idea of Area 51, often depicted as a mysterious and secretive base dealing with extraterrestrial or otherworldly phenomena, benefits from the grounded, believable performances of these seasoned actors. Wilson and Swank, both capable of portraying complex, cerebral roles, can add credibility to the idea that these characters are experts navigating the high-stakes, technical world of Area 51.
Hauser’s character provides a fresh perspective, likely overwhelmed and curious about the mysteries, allowing the audience to discover the sci-fi elements through his eyes.
Benefit: By grounding the sci-fi elements in believable, human characters, the franchise can maintain a sense of realism and accessibility, even as it explores outlandish or fantastical scientific concepts. The audience becomes more engaged with the storyline because the characters themselves feel authentic and relatable.
6. Scalable Storytelling for Sequels
This trio of characters allows for scalable storytelling, where the franchise can expand in multiple directions. For example, in each sequel, Hauser's character might uncover deeper layers of Area 51’s secrets, with Wilson and Swank’s characters offering guidance or facing their own moral dilemmas as they confront escalating threats.
Benefit: The ability to introduce new mysteries and challenges for these characters ensures that each sequel has its own unique flavor, while also building upon the established relationships and thematic arcs. This scalable approach to character-driven sci-fi allows the franchise to evolve and stay fresh while maintaining continuity.
7. Franchise Longevity and Potential for Spinoffs
Given the prominence of Area 51 in popular culture, the trio’s roles as scientists and engineers can naturally extend into spinoffs or expanded universe stories. Hauser's character, for instance, could branch out into his own subplot or backstory, exploring his path to becoming a scientist in such a secretive and high-pressure environment.
Benefit: The strong character foundation laid by these actors opens the door to broader franchise expansion, including spinoffs focused on the mysteries of Area 51, the personal histories of the scientists, or even a deeper dive into government conspiracies and cover-ups.
By casting Patrick Wilson, Hilary Swank, and Paul Walter Hauser, the film establishes a solid, emotionally compelling core team for the Area 51 storyline. The combination of seasoned professionals and a fresh face offers a compelling mix of experience and potential, ensuring that the franchise can thrive across multiple sequels and spin-offs, with both commercial success and critical depth.
