Code Geass Gets 2 New Manga on Comic Newtype Site

The January 2018 issue of Kadokawa's Newtype magazine revealed on Saturday that the Code Geass franchise will get two more new manga.

The first manga is titled Katei Kyoushi no Lelouch-san (Lelouch the Home Tutor) by Urushidama, a comedy spinoff manga that casts Lelouch as a home tutor of C.C. The manga will launch on the Comic Newtype website on December 22.

The second manga is tentatively titled Code Geass - Hangyaku no Lelouch, the same title as the main anime series, and is described as a "definitive edition." Tomofumi Ogasawara (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers) is drawing the manga, which is slated to launch on Comic Newtype in 2018.

Tomofumi Ogasawara launched the Code Geass – Hangyaku no Lelouch Re; (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Re;) manga on Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype website on Mau 25, 20180. Sunrise’s Kōjirō Taniguchi is credited with the scenario based on the original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion anime series.

The manga’s next chapter will debut on June 29, 2018.

Two quick notes—

I am in fact working on translating the authorial commentary for Re;

I doubt it’s going to contain anything especially revealing; the commentary on the first volume definitely didn’t. (It’s just kind of sweet sentiments from both Koujirou Taniguchi and Tomofumi Osagawara.)

But it did make me aware that I’ve been referring to the former as “Taniguchi” informally so much that I confused myself; it’s worth noting that when fandom usually refers to a “Taniguchi” in conjunction with CODE GEASS, they mean Gorou Taniguchi, the man who directed the TV series — not Koujirou Taniguchi, who has been a long-time producer for various CODE GEASS projects, and who was responsible for the “scenario” / scripting of the Re; and Re;surrection manga.

That’s a fairly significant mistake to make, and I hope my confusion hasn’t spread too far.

Also, while translating Ogasawara’s own commentary on the manga, I realized I may have referred to the artist as a “she” at some point. Barnes & Noble’s “about the author” for an official translation of Ogasawara’s Gundam Wing manga adaptation says “he”, and other than that there’s really nothing online. At least it’s from 2017, not like, 1995. Much more chance that the person who wrote that blurb actually spoke to someone from the publishing house if not Ogasawara directly.
