I have a collection of sad boys that I carry around in my pocket and I have had some of them since I was very small and some that have climbed in there quite recently but I love them all same and every now and then I take them out of my pocket and play them them like dolls and other times I hold them to my chest and cry and pet their hair and kiss their little forehead and assure them one day everything will be alright one day everything will be okay again

Alright, I could use a sounding board (here and on the discord) cause I think trying to tackle the name hijinks code all alone with only basic help from the twine discord was... a mistake. (bite off more than you can chew... and then chew it >>)

So, below are all the possible combos for names (Mc, Charlie, Others and Horse) I can think off. Did I forget anything? Is something doubled when it shouldn't be? Also spoilers for which names net you special text

MC can share the following names with NPCs:

For Charlie:

Charlie, Charley, Charly, Charles, Charli, Charlee, Charleigh as First or Nickname, First Name not in Combo with Mulligan or Mullygan. E.G. 'Charly Mullygan' is not possible, but 'Charlotte 'Charly' Mulligan' is.

Mulligan or Mullygan for Nickname or Last Name. Restrictions similar to the above, also not as First Name.

TO DO: Charlie, Charley, Charly, Charles, Charli, Charlee, Charleigh as Last Name, Restrictions pending.

Others:

First name and Nickname can be identical/similar to NPC names, but not in combo with Last Names.

Combos for your horse (all overlaps net an achievement):

MC, Charlie and Horse share a name (all varieties of Charlie and/or Mulligan)

Charlie and Horse share a name (doesn't have to be the same)

Horse and Mc share a name

Mc and horse share a name along with an npc (e.g if Mc and Horse are called a variety of Tommy).

Horse can be named Horse.

Horse cannot be named "wicklow", "bullsnot", "caboose", "cahoots".

That's what I have so far. does this sound right, does this make sense, did i overlook something?

Jimmy Book Updates (!!!!)

Hello, fellow Marchetta fans! I feel like I haven’t been active in the tag 5ever but I HAVE NEWS NOW. 

So my friend Rachel went to #YALitFest on Saturday, 2/9/17, and had the chance to hear Melina Marchetta read from her WIP aka THE JIMMY BOOK there. She told me almost immediately after and I’ve been losing my shit about the little details I got ever since (I’M JUST. UGHHHH). Anyway, she permitted me to share her recount SO HERE IT IS: 

I went to #YALitFest on Sat 2/9/17. Melina Marchetta read from her WIP there. This is everything that I can remember right now (updates may come when/if I ever recover and my brain throws out more info at me). it will be in 3 POVs: Jimmy, Rosie and Martha

she's written 20k so far and thinks it might possibly end up being shorter than her other books 

it is as much Rosie and Martha's story as it is Jimmy's story, if not more (Jimmy is very important to the story tho) 

Jimmy is 25 which makes it 2011/2012 

the chapter she read from was Jimmy's and it was chapter 3 

it was a reunion between Jimmy, Tom, Tara and Frankie after two years apart 

Justine is in 'fucking Melbourne' 

Siobhan is in 'fucking London' (still) 

Will is in 'fucking Stuttgart' (for work, I'm assuming) 

Thomas Mackee, was wearing a tie. Jim asked why 'as Mackee is not exactly the type of guy to wear one' and the girls tell Jimmy that Tom is now a Sir. And this is because he is a teacher. A D&T teacher.

Tara+Tom are still together (4 years, guys) and living together. Jimmy is crashing with them and will be staying in their roommate's room while he's overseas. Tom cracks a joke about what they get up to in the bedroom in re to something Tara says (sorry I can't recall exactly what, I was crying and about to fall off my chair at this point) and Jimmy notes that he's happy that they're still together and seem even happier now than they were when he stayed with them while couch surfing in Sydney 2 yrs ago (referenced in When Rosie Met Jim)

It ended on Jim having something to tell them all. CAN YOU BELIEVE SHE STOPPED IT THERE MY EVIL QUEEN I LOVE HER SO.

it is set two years after WRMJ (she has said that WRMJ is essentially the first chapter but I don't know if it will end up being included or become separate. A short story on Tom Mackee that she wrote in 2009, 10 Minutes, ended up being interspersed throughout TPS)

fr tho why are all my favourite characters men who are naturally nurturing and family oriented with super interesting dynamics with toxic/masculinity and then the writers don’t know what to do with that (the answer is give them their happily ever after you fucks) and so they instead kill them off in the most violent way possible just for funsies like?!

I felt the same way about Saving Francesca when I read it, especially after a titan like Jellicoe. But have you tried The Piper's Son? I ask because I've read all of Melina's stuff and that's my favorite book of hers despite it being a spin-off of SF. Tom Mackee's struggles really puts you on an emotional rollercoaster. Also, since Jellicoe Road is in the same universe, you get to see a cute interaction between some of the characters.

Francesca doesn’t react and even Tom wants her to talk. Or workshop. Or be Francesca in overload. Even he’s stressed by her silence.

“I thought we weren’t going to drive each other crazy with this type of stuff, Frankie,” Will says, frustrated.

“We aren’t,” she blurts out. “But it’s just been the longest year and most of the time I just think of something terrible happening to you over there, Will. But sometimes . . . when you’re speaking strip joints with Tom . . . what was that? Bonding?”

“Yeah, like I’d really bond with that dick. Hasn’t anyone explained to him that there’s a big difference between Sumatra and Bangkok?”

“And I’d appreciate if you changed your attitude about my friends.”

“I don’t have a problem with your friends, except for one. Fuck, how do you think I feel, Frankie? You’re either up there onstage with him or in a room with other guys ogling you. You think that doesn’t go through my mind when I’m over there? That you might act on the chemistry you have with people who have everything in common with you in the way that I don’t? Like Mackee. How can I compete with that? While guys I’m working with are telling me their girlfriends back home are screwing around behind their backs?”

“Okay,” she says, determined. “Let’s go back to the part where we aren’t going to drive each other crazy with this type of stuff.”

Tom can see that Will’s still fired up.

“Come here,” she says.

“No, you come here.”

“I said it first.”

“Rock paper scissors.”

“No. Because you’ll do nerdy calculations and work out what I chose the last six times and then you’ll win.”

Will pushes away from the table and his hand snakes out and he pulls her toward him and Tom figures that Will was always going to go to her first.

Don’t know what to say, Mackee, except if I had to wish for anything at the moment, it would be that this hadn’t happened to you and yours. With all the shit in Jimmy Hailler’s life, he would have wasted his one and only wish on Tom.
