I do think a lot actually about Hartnell giving Silna the name "Lady Silence".

On the surface of it, I do believe he's endeavouring to show kindness and respect, addressing her specifically by that high-status title.

It's nice. He's trying to be nice.

But it's also just so fascinating to me that even that act is tinged and even tainted by empire and propriety and class.

He's trying to be nice, but seemingly the best way he can think to be nice still means confining Silna, however unconsciously, within a familiar and rigid British class structure.

It seeps insidiously into every single aspect of life (and death too, really). There really is no escaping it.
