Cine: The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love (1995)

La primera imagen de Randy (Laurel Holloman) la muestra a los besos con otra mujer, nada menos que una casada (Maggie Moore). Es una chica de diecisiete años con un pobre desempeño escolar y un trabajo de cajera en una gasolinera que vive con su tía Rebecca (Kate Stafford) y su novia Vicky (Sabrina Artel), lo que ya nos dice que no tiene ningún rollo con su sexualidad.

Allí, en el trabajo, aparece Evie (Nicole Ari Parker), pidiendo alguna ayuda para los neumáticos de su Range Rover; más tarde le prestaría un libro de Walt Whitman, lo cual también nos habla de ella: es una adolescente con una existencia mucho más holgada, cálida en sus maneras y de gran cultura. Es, podría decirse, “la popular” de la escuela: tiene tres amigas, a las cuales conoce de su infancia, y un novio, de nombre Hayjay (Andrew Wright); Randy, que vive en una casa con más amor que espacio (adonde también se unirá Lena, interpretada por Toby Poser, ex novia de Rebecca), sólo tiene un amigo, también gay: Frank (Nelson Rodríguez). Y ya se sabe, hasta en dos almas tan dispares puede nacer el amor más profundo.

Maria Maggenti se ha puesto al hombro, escribiendo (en tan sólo ocho semanas) y dirigiendo esta no tan inusual historia de romance adolescente, a la que ha dotado de naturalidad y algunos toques de comedia en los que se manifiesta el siempre vigente tema del temor a la mirada ajena.
