As Severus closed the door on his own small home, he tiptoed towards the narrow stairs, barely daring to breathe. 

“Boy!” 

He paused, then let out a resigned sigh and turned, making his way through the tiny hall and into the cramped kitchen. 

His father, Tobias Snape, was sitting at the table jammed into the corner of the room, leaving hardly any space to maneuver around it. Yet somehow, his mother always found enough room to prepare meals. She was there as well, washing potatoes with inch long eyes while a knife chopped carrots on the counter of its own accord. 

“Sí papa,” Severus replied. 

“Where have you been? Your mother needed help with cleaning.” 

Severus rolled his eyes. Why he had to help his mother, who was a perfectly competent witch with mundane tasks such as washing floors was beyond him.

“Estaba abajo junto al río,” he shrugged. I was down by the river.

Tobias snorted, then said, “well you’re here now. Get to work.” And he gestured at an empty bucket and grey washrag sitting on the floor. 

“Sí papá.” It was perfectly normal for them to carry out conversations in half Spanish, half English. His father had never bothered to learn much Spanish, even after marrying his mother, and years of work in a factory in Spain, yet Eileen had insisted on exclusively speaking Spanish with her son. 

“Es importante para él ser bilingüe,” she’d insisted. It is important he is bilingual.

This meant Tobias was often a mere spectator in his own home to conversations he didn’t fully understand. 

“No entiendo por qué tengo que hacer esto cuando tú podrías hacerlo por nosotros con un movimiento de tu varita,” Severus grumbled under his breath, grabbing the bucket and sliding past his mother to run it under the tap. I don’t understand why I have to do this when you could do it for us with a wave of your wand.

“Oh hija mía, es bueno para ti,” his mother replied. “Además estoy ocupada.” Oh my child, it is good for you. Besides, I am busy.

And she waved at the dinner preparations clearly taking place in front of her. 

“Bien,” Severus huffed, pulling the bucket out of the sink and sloshing a bit of water on the cheap linoleum flooring. “¿Qué vas a hacer cuando me vaya a Hogwarts?” What are you going to do when I am gone at Hogwarts?

His mother reached out a hand and ruffled his hair. 

“Yo me encargaré. Y báñate esta noche. No más excusas.” I’ll manage. And take a bath tonight, no more excuses.

While Severus began wiping down the worn floor in the entryway, he thought about Hogwarts. Sometimes it didn’t even seem real to him, but it was out there, somewhere. Waiting. And in a year’s time he’d be going. Lily too, he reckoned. 

They had moved to Cokesworth from Barcelona, his father trading one factory job for another, in the new year of 1970. Eileen had insisted they take up residency in Britain so as to ensure Severus would have a place at Hogwarts. Tobias had relented upon learning a first class free education awaited his son, even if it was at a school of magic. But with little funds, their choices for relocating had been limited. Severus missed the big city, with its bustling culture, bright colors, music, and proximity to the ocean. 

Cokeworth was only colorful for one season of the year, and even then the colors were mostly brighter shades of red brick and grey stone as the sun shone down upon them. Most of the time, it was cloudy with grey drizzle. And the skyline was dominated by the huge smokestacks of the factories which employed almost all the town’s residents. 

Severus had found his limited English to be an unexpected setback upon moving. He’d been under the impression his English was, if not great, then good. It turned out the limited conversations he had had with his father were the catalyst of much teasing in his new classroom. He quickly withdrew, becoming nothing more than a shadow of his former self, but a keen observer emerged from the isolation. 

This is how he had noticed Lily, sitting in the front row, raising her hand anytime a question was asked. It wasn’t her intelligence he noticed, it was her magic. She’d drop a pencil, then reach to pick it up, but before her fingers got within a foot of it, the pencil would leap up into her palm as if drawn there by a magnet. Or she’d be asked to pass back their homework and as she walked around the room, the papers would float from her hand to the student’s desk without so much as a flick of her wrist. Thankfully, no one else took notice of the phenomena. But Severus did. 

His own experience with magic was sporadic at best. But it was enough for his mother to confirm he had inherited the trait. Eileen had told her son plenty of details about Hogwarts, but like any good magical parent, she also left certain things out so he could experience the wonder and surprises the castle had to offer first hand. Severus did know there were four houses, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. 

“¿En qué casa estabas mamá?” he’d asked. Which house were you in mama?

“Yo estaba en Slytherin,” Eileen had responded. “Probablemente a ti también te pondrán allí. Suele ser hereditario. Pero no siempre.” I was in Slytherin. You’ll probably get put there too. It usually runs in families. But not always. 

“¿Importa a qué casa voy?” Does it matter which house I go to?

His mother had thought for a moment. “No, donde termines será el lugar adecuado para ti.” Where you end up will be the right place for you. 

Severus didn’t admit it aloud, but his mother’s prediction of his sorting had already cemented Slytherin house as the ideal house in his mind. He adored his mother, after all. They shared something his father could never touch. They spoke Spanish together. And however limited Eileen Snape’s physical affection may be, Severus knew his mother loved him. These things were something of a consultation when his father sunk into one of his depressive rages.

Tobias was an honest, hard working man. But he had his demons. When he felt the despair closing in around him, he turned to drink to numb the feelings. Which mostly worked, until something set him off, then the alcohol only fueled an anger which was truly terrifying, especially to a ten year old boy. Eileen took the brunt of his aggression. Severus could always tell when they were about to go at it, and every row ended in bruises, blood, and tears. Thankfully it wasn’t an everyday occurrence. But it happened enough to skew Severus’ perspective of healthy adult behavior. 

He’d hear the shouting begin and slip up to his room to press a pillow over his ears trying to muffle out the fight. I am not here, he’d tell himself. I am nothing. I do not exist. This ritual set in until it was second nature, he even began doing it when they weren’t fighting, particularly before falling asleep. 

What he didn’t understand was why his mother let it happen. She was a witch. Surely she could use magic to fight back instead of playing punching bag for his drunk father. 

“No, hija mía, nunca usamos magia contra muggles,” she’d said one day when he’d brought this to her attention. No my child, we never use magic against muggles. 

“Pero mamá, él te está lastimando,” Severus had cried, tears streaking down his cheeks. But mama, he is hurting you. 

“No es justo para ellos.” It isn’t fair to them. 

“No mamá, no es justo para ti.” No mama, it isn’t fair to you.

His mother would sigh and tell him someday he would understand. Severus didn’t think he ever would. If he had that kind of power at his fingertips, when more like, he wouldn’t stand for bullies throwing their weight around. 

Eileen had explained the importance of keeping the magical world secret, the ministry could punish you if you performed magic in front of muggles or even worse on muggles. 

“Y además mi amor, no quieres que termine en Azkaban ¿verdad?” she had said. And besides my love, you don’t want me to end up in Azkaban do you?

“Con papá es diferente, él ve magia todo el tiempo.” It is different with papa, he sees magic all the time.

“Ver y sentir son dos cosas muy diferentes.” Eileen shook her head. Seeing and feeling are two very different things.

Then to distract her distraught son, she told him all about the terrible creatures which guarded the wizard prison Azkaban. While this wasn’t a cheering sort of tale, Severus was thoroughly distracted from his current troubles by thoughts of beings who emanated the deepest despair and could suck your soul out through your mouth.  

As Severus wiped small circles on the floor with his wet rag, he daydreamed about a time in which he’d have the power to defend himself, and defend those he loved against the evils of the world.

The Afterlife of Eileen Snape and the Reunion with her only son

Pairing: Eileen Snape & Severus Snape, Eileen Snape x Tobias Snape, Severus Snape x Lily Evans (one-sided), Lily Evans x James Potter

Warning: Characters Death, Drinking, Dark Thoughts, Abusive

Tobias is hitting his wife again, as always. Severus is in his room doing his summer homework. He really wished that his father wasn't a Muggle...or better yet not his father.

Tobias picked up his empty beer bottle. "WOMAN! I TOLD YOU TO BUY ME WINE! AND WHY THERE IS NO WINE AGAIN? HAVE YOU DRINK IT?!" He demands angrily. He is drunk.

"They have no wine in the shop! And you have used up all our money for alcohol! We don't even have money for food !" Eileen shouts back.

Tobias is very angry now. He used the bottle in his hand to hit Eileen hard on the head. Eileen immediately fallen onto the ground and screams in pain. Blood is seeping from her head.

Severus rushes out of his room when he heard his mother screams. He immediately saw the blood. He tried to help her. But Tobias use the bottle to hit Eileen continuously. And Tobias ignored Severus's protest and screaming.

The last thought in Eileen's mind was, "Severus my son. Be safe. Be strong. I love you."

It is 1981's Halloween today. Eileen looks at the world of the living. Her heart has broken when she knows her son became a Death Eater. But in her mind, she always know that her son Severus is brave and loyal. He knows what is wrong and what is right. She really missed him.

Her son is her everything. She is sad that she can never protect him from harm again.

She watched the Potters are murdered. And her son goes to Godric's Hallow. And her heart breaks when he saw Lily is dead. He hugs her dead body and cried. He wished he never was a Death Eater, never called her a mudblood.

She watched as her son stopped crying. In the later years, she never saw him smile again. To say the truth, she had never seen him smile since he went to Hogwarts. Severus seems heartless because his heart died .

Today is 2 May 1998, Eileen watched her son protected Lily's son Harry over the years. She watched as her son went to the Shrieking Shack, the shack that nearly caused him killed by a werewolf.

Her eyes widen as she saw ordered her once handsome classmate, Tom Riddle, ordered his snake Nagini to attack him. She cried as Nagini continuously to attack her son.

"I regret it," said Voldemort coldly, and Disapparated.

Severus stood there, his knees shaking. They gave way and he fell to the floor, lay sprawled on the ground, breathing hard and clutching the bloody cuts in his neck.

It was painful. White-hot searing pain was spreading through his whole body. He blinked his eyes. He was going to see Lily again. He would no longer need to do this. He didn't want to fight anymore.

And suddenly there was a ripple in the landscape, and Severus thought it was his own blurring vision, until he realised who stood there.

Harry Potter crouched gently at his side, and held his hand gently on Severus's neck. It subsided the pain.

He wanted something suddenly. Pain and longing burst through his veins. He thought of all the happy memories he'd shared with Lily before James had took her. And he forced them through his mind.

White memories began trickling from him. With great difficulty, he burst words out.

"Take it...take it..." The words issued from his throat, barely audible, but Harry understood, and took the thoughts with a flask.

Severus had no blood left in him. There was only one thought in his mind: Lily.

He burst with longing again. The last thing he wanted to see...he did not want to see those glasses, nor that black hair, nothing about James. He forced his hand up and pulled the glasses off, pulled Harry closer.

And he stared into those dazzling green eyes, Lily's dazzling green eyes, and he almost smiled, Lily, Lily, he was going to see Lily, mother...and Dumbledore...

Then he sees no more....and his eyes are closed forever....

When Severus opened his eyes once again, he saw his mother standing there, greeting him with a watery smile. He missed his mother, he runs over her and hugs her.

He looks around. He saw Lupin with his wife,Tonks. "Oh no...their son is an orphan now..." he thought sadly. He saw Fred Weasley as well. Sirius Black, James Potter and finally....Lily...beautiful Lily.

He looks at his beautiful green eyes. He breaks away from his mother's hug and walks towards Lily.

"I am sorry...." he told her. Lily just smiled at him. "Thank you for saving my son Sev." She said.

Eileen looks at his son and smiled. They are all finally reunited once more...even it means his death.

this is a character study of severus snape. this is taken directly from my main blog, but it's honestly written more like a fic so here you go

also i did a sirius and lily one as well

so we know snape had a shit home life. his muggle father was abusive, and his pureblood mother was neglectful. he's not stupid; he knows they're poor, and he probably saw their living situation as the fault of his father for dragging his mother away from the wizarding world.

he knows the muggles think of him as the weird poor kid, and none more so than petunia evans. but then there's petunia's sister, lily, the only good thing in his life.

and then he turns 11, and hogwarts seems like a dream. no parents, no muggles, just learning and maybe meeting some people who are like him and lily (who he thinks is in slytherin).

unfortunately for him, the first people he and lily meet on the train are the most anti-slytherin gryffindors around - james, who quite literally wants to be a knight in shining armor, and sirius, who had any potential like for slytherin beaten out of him. so they exchange insults, and there's no violence, not yet, but james and sirius get the last word in.

and, yeah, maybe he's a little jealous that his rivals formed such a fast and easy friendship. there's no way in hell he could do that, but fortunately for him, there's some boys in slytherin that seem particularly eager to make his acquaintance. they make him feel special and included, and yeah, they're kinda shady, but severus is no stranger to dark and creepy. plus, they're what's available, and severus is nothing if not the victim of his circumstances.

the years pass. the insults gets worse, the pranks start, and the violence begins. a lot of the time, severus is defending himself, but even he has to admit, he gives as good as he gets. however, there's no denying he is a victim of bullying.

and he's tired of it. he wants it to end. so he decides to go with a tried and true strategy: going after the weakest link. he knows that's technically peter, but he also knows there's something shady going on with lupin, and don't lupin's "sick mum" visits happen about once a month?

so he consults a lunar chart, and sure enough, the dates line up. now all he has to do is prove it.

unfortunately, lupin is lily's friend as well james and sirius', and going through with this could ruin the one meaningful relationship he has.

but there's no way lily knows, right? if she were to find out, she would certainly turn on lupin anyway.*

and then sirius hands him the key. he could get lupin expelled, and the marauders, too. there's no way they don't know. but instead of being proven right, he almost dies, and james saves his life.

but this does prove one thing at least. sirius is just as bad as him. but somehow, lily doesn't see it this way. she's too caught up trying to defend the evil half breed to see how dangerous the marauders are.

but then the lake incident. the marauders take it too far. snape can't get over this one. and why did lily have to defend him in front of the slytherins?? she knows what they think of her, and she knows they're his friends!*

so he does something unforgiveable. he calls his best friend a slur in front of the whole school. he may have salvaged his relationship with the slytherins, but at what cost? the loss of lily, apparently. at least she also yelled at james. at least he still has that.

when they return for sixth year, the marauders have mysteriously mellowed out. there's hardly any bullying, and they've even slowed down the pranks. it seems like a dream come true, but-

lily still won't talk to him. he tries to apologize to her, but she won't listen to him at all. why can't she see that he knows what's best for her? that she belongs with him? he forgave her for what she did, why can't she forgive him for what he did?*

but then lily starts spending more time with the marauders, even sirius, who tried to kill him! doesn't she realize that she's ruining herself?* this is unforgiveable. but, then, he's never been able to hold anything against her, has he? he still believes he can have her back.*

lily starts dating james, but it's just a phase, it has to be, because how can she even look at that prat? the boy who bullied severus for years, ruined his life, embarassed him, n e v e r l e t u p for six years straight. but - despite himself - he still can't let her go.**

they graduate. james and lily stay together. severus makes the final transition into becoming a death eater now that there's nothing holding him back. he gets the dark mark, because clearly muggles and mudbloods alike don't know what's best for them, but the death eaters are strong and smart, just what he likes.*

he doesn't see lily for a while, but he hears about the marriage and the baby, and he hears about the prophecy. oh, how the dark lord would love to know all about the child who "will one day defeat him", the child of his best friend and former bully. he tells voldemort.

but, oh god, that was a mistake, and what has he done, he's killed lily! except it's not his fault because he was just the messenger - it's not his fault, it's not his fault, she never would've died if she'd just listened to him- ***

the years pass again. he switches sides, and dumbledore believes in him, and that's redemption, right? he's absolved.****

but now he's bitter, and he has no one. why should these children, especially the gryffindors, grow up happy when all he has left are his memories?

then harry potter, who looks so much like awful james, comes to hogwarts, along with more dreadful weasleys, and even worse, neville longbottom, who it could've, should've, been, and hermione granger, who reminds him so much of his dear lily.* and he's not proud of it, or maybe he is, he honestly can't tell at this point, but he takes it out on them. his pain, suffering. he can't help it; he's only human.*

he does save harry's life, and with it, repays a debt. one less thing owed to dead people.

two years later is lupin, whose life has deteriorated even more than snape's, and isn't that just little bit nice, that some justice has been handed out?*

he can handle sirius. sirius has wasted away in prison for 13 years, a shell of his former self. finally, snape has triumphed over those who wronged him.*

the second war progresses. sirius dies. snape celebrates.* dumbledore dies. snape is indifferent. throughout it all, he remains a spy, not because he wants to, but for lily. harry may look like james, but he is still her son.

maybe he goes too far. it's a wonder the students never turned on him.

but then he gets a chance to share his story. not the one everybody knows (or thinks they know), but the real one. so he gives harry his memories. and dies at peace.*****

this was fun! i'm more of an anti-snape person (as you can tell), so this was really interesting to write.

*i just want to make sure that everyone knows i am not condoning these behaviors/feelings/attitudes. they are ableist, sexist, arrogant, and just straight up wrong, but it is a part of snape's character, and that is what i'm analyzing.

Severus Snape Headcanons for my upcoming Fanfic!

Uses Muggle supplies

For studying & note taking in class because they're cheaper than Wizarding supplies.

Ex: spiral notebooks, wooden pencils, pens

Only ever uses his parchment and ink quills when doing class work and essays that need to be turned in.

Professor Flitwick noticed and charmed his pen so that the ink will last until the school year ends.

"Best to not tell" is all he said when he did before awarding him 10 points for his cleverness and resourcefulness.

Is Actually Left Handed

But because Tobias deemed it another "freakish" trait from his mother, broke his fingers every time he caught him writing, forcing him to use his right hand, therefore making him ambidextrous.

Reason why his school work is immaculate and his notes are a complete mess. because even though his left hand has a slight tremor, he still uses it in the comfort of his own privacy.

His Mother is Jewish so He Knows a Bit of Hebrew

When he's in Potions or any other class that require numbers, he only ever counts in the language under his breath.

The Marauders (not Remus) think his mumblings are incantations of Dark Magic spells because of course they do.

He Was a Late Bloomer

Meaning his first growth spurt happened during the summer between 4th and 5th year.

His voice changed to a deep throaty tone that everyone immediately pointed out. Both Severus and Eileen mastered honey-lime tea.

He refused to speak for almost half of first term & only relented when Regulus told him how his voice is perfect for Reading Nights. Especially if he's reading in Hebrew.

(the Slytherins have a short of "poetry night" which I find kinda cute)

He Steals the Library's Candles

Madam Pince is convinced its the Marauders so she has made countless complaints to Headmaster Dumbledore, but he just lets it be. Claiming how wonderful it is that students are working so hard into the night on their studies that they need the extra light.

Only that Severus uses the candles to coat and seal his more expensive and/or important potion ingredients since their wax is of more higher quality and its charmed to last longer than regular candles.

Unbeknownst to many, simply because he was such a private person, Severus had always been very close with his mother. Eileen Snape is… was… the only kind Snape in the whole family tree, considering she married into the family, it made sense. Eileen originally married his father, Tobias Snape, out of love, she was the type of person who found the good in everybody, even, unfortunately, his father at one point, though she horrendously misjudged his… nature.

Severus always thought it foolish of her, to even think of that man, his… father, as remotely good, even on a good day, seemed impossible for Severus. Tobias Snape did not have a single loving bone in his body, if he did, it's safe to say Severus would’ve been an entirely different person.

It wasn’t always so tense between Eileen and Tobias, when his father and mother were wed, the Snape family outwardly portrayed the perfect family, a hardworking husband, and a doting equally as hardworking wife, that was, until Severus was born.

His father was nothing special, he was a tall, lanky, pale, English muggle who worked a plethora of jobs at any given moment. He never stayed anywhere too long mostly because he’d end up coming to work hungover or drunk more often than not leading to a confrontation between him and whoever his current boss was. He was a notoriously stoic man who could go the entire day without giving so much as a glance to either Severus or Eileen until he got his hands on a bottle of beer. Later on in life, his alcohol dependence would prove to be his final nail in the coffin, just a few months short of his mother’s death.

His mother, on the other hand, was born into the highly esteemed House of Prince. Much like the noble House of Black, the Prince House was a highly revered, and highly feared, house of powerful pureblooded witches and wizards. Unlike many patriarchal wizarding families, the Prince family was headed by the less-than-polite, Catherine Prince, Eileen’s mother. Being an only child, Eileen was next in line to head the Prince House but upon hearing her daughter had married and fallen in love with a muggle man, Catherine disowned Eileen for being a “blood traitor” and “tainting” their family line.

Before their wedding, Eileen and Tobias lived in his parent's home, after their very small intimate wedding, the two moved into Spinner’s End in Cokeworth, England, just a few short months later, Severus was conceived and born on January 9th, 1960. Despite its less-than-favorable conditions, drab, rainy, cobblestoned England would serve to be their residence, its looming Victorian architecture only adding to the oppressiveness and overbearing weight of the country as a whole. The ghosts of a not-so-distant past served as a grim backdrop for the tense times they lived in.

For the first year of his life, Severus was rather sickly and pale, two traits that regrettably followed him through his childhood and into adulthood, albeit, to a lesser extreme. He was a rather frail child resulting in him often sitting and playing with his mother rather than venturing into the outside world simply because it caused too much strain on his already strained body. 

Due to brain damage he sustained from one of the many beatings from his father, his development was stunted and many important milestones such as his first laugh, his first steps, and even his first words happened at much later times than they would for a seemingly healthy baby. Eileen wasn’t spared from Tobias’s wrath either, while her son bared the brunt of her husband’s aggression, she too sustained a multitude of bruises and broken bones at his hands.

Despite their harsh reality, Eileen never broke in front of her son, she taught Severus to never accept a life he didn’t deserve, to keep his head up, he was a Prince after all. Her confidence, born of a life of privilege at a young age was something even Tobias had a hard time breaking. 

As he grew older, Severus never grew out of his introverted tendencies. His constant ailments and aversion to words were a point of conflict in the Snape household. Growing up, Severus was regularly berated for being too “weak” and acting like a “pansy” due to his mother’s quote-unquote “incessant coddling”. Coupled with the fact that he had grown out his hair and wore his mother’s clothing since his father’s hung off his lanky body, Severus was more often than not, subjected to harsh manual labor along with numerous beatings for whatever unforgivable crime his father felt he committed that day. In his father’s words, “He wasn’t going to raise a faggot”, how funny that sentence was to look back upon...

As a result of his father’s explosive temper and general aloof behavior, he and his mother grew extremely close. A certified social recluse even at a young age, Eileen was the only person he allowed into his little world. Once her son started displaying signs of having magical abilities, she broke out her old textbooks and started teaching him basic wandless spells in secret while Tobias was away working.

 His father detested magic with every fiber of his being, he didn’t like much of anything but magic for some reason seemed to entirely derail his behavior. So much so, that he snapped Eileen’s wand in a fit of rage not long after they were married.

The day Severus got his Hogwarts letter, Eileen was ecstatic, catching his father in a good mood, she showed him the letter proclaiming their son was a wizard and would be attending the best magical school in the world. Grossly hungover, Tobias didn’t fully register her words as she asked to take Severus to London, waving them off angrily, Eileen practically skipped out of the house with her son in tow.

The two spent the day in Diagon Alley, living what felt like a normal life for the first time. Splurging what little money she had on her son, Eileen bought him brand new robes and a wand, even going so far as to buy him ice cream at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour before heading off to the used bookstores. It’s this day that Severus believes was his happiest memory, rather,  it was one of his only happy memories from his childhood, the one memory he faithfully used to conjure his Patronus.

I have had this in my notes forever, and since I’m not sure if I’ll ever turn this into a fanfic, I thought I’d post it here.

A lot of this is my own version of canon, but it’s also partly inspired by wonderful accounts such as @halfblood-princes-crown, @moonlightdancer26 and more.

Severus Snape’s Death Eater Journey

-Eileen married Tobias because she was the eldest of her siblings and thus the "heir" and hated it

-she was in Gryffindor (hat stall, almost in Slytherin)

-Tobias was a misogynistic wife-beater and child abuser

-he hated magic

-he didn’t like feeling his wife was superior to him

-he beat his wife to "get the magic out of her" and when that didn’t work, he did the same to his son

-Severus started to resent T when he was about 5

-his first bit of magic showed during a time when he was defending himself against his father

-he started thinking "are all muggles this bad?", but slightly changed that view whenever he spoke to his muggle neighbours and the Evans family

-Sev is excited to go to Hogwarts as he thinks he can finally escape his family’s tormenting

-he latches onto Lily as she’s A) magical (and thus, an "outsider" like him) and B) a complete contrast to everything he had ever known

-encounter in the train 01.09.1971

-at first, he brushes it off

-Lily being Sorted into Gryffindor upsets him mainly because it reminds him of his miserable home life (Gryffindor as a symbol of badness)

-first week of school, J&S play a prank on Sev

-they find his reaction funny, play some more pranks on him during the next few months and decide to make him their main target

-part of J&S detentions are the result of Sev telling prefect Lucius (this in turn contributes to their hatred of Sev and Slytherin)

-the pranks are physically harmless at first, "just" humiliating

-Sev throws himself into his studies, becoming a very skilled wizard

-in year 2/3, the "pranks" become more and more physically violent

-in year 4, Sev accidentally hexes an OC as he believes them to be one of the marauders (he just saw someone coming in his direction from the corner of his eye)

-he apologises and takes the OC to the hospital wing

-the only people that somewhat listen to him when it comes to the M are Slytherins

-he is not close to any of them though

-he starts hanging out with Avery and Mulciber

-he’s happy to be somewhat included, so he doesn’t openly criticise their anti-muggleborn views

-despite his friendship with Lily, Sev associates the Light™️ with his oppressors

-he begins to learn more about the Dark Arts to fight back (he focuses on the opposite of what his bullies stand for)

-he hears slurs in his common room all the time and often they refer to his bullies (which is largely why he calls Lily that)

-he never says the slur out loud, only in his head/under his breath

-one time Sev and Mulciber bitch about the Gryffindors/his bullies in particular and Sev calls Remus + Peter the slur under his breath (he wants to get back at them for all the pain they’ve caused him by supporting J&S)

-Sev says he dislikes an OC as much as the M, which leads to people believing he calls everyone of Lily’s birth the slur

-January 1976 Werewolf Incident

-February 1976 Mulciber tries doing something to Mary MacDonald ("They don’t use Dark Magic though.")

-Sev's anger and bitterness increases as Dumbledore forces him to keep quiet about the WI

-May/June 1976 Lake Incident (+ failed apology)

-Sev comes home that summer to find out his father had (accidentally) killed his mother ("She fell down the stairs.")

-the summer holidays are awful as A) Sev misses his mum and B) his father now takes all his anger out on him

-he spends as much time outside as possible

-he spends some time on the playground where he first saw Lily

-he writes her a letter, delivers it personally, and Lily’s parents promise to give it to her (she never responds)

-year 6 is the worst bullying ever, as J&S A) realise Sev no longer has Lily’s support and B) Sirius’s disowning fuelled their anger at Slytherins

-Lily pointedly ignores him

-Sev's only safe haven is the Dark Arts, but he is also hesitant as this is what drove Lily (=the Light) away

-due to the increased bullying that year, Sev ends up in the hospital wing every other week

-summer 1977 is when he starts getting caught in the loop of "I want power to protect myself from my pain (J&S, Gryffindor, everything they represent)" and "but I don’t want to commit evil acts (Cruciatus Curse etc)"

-through spies at Hogwarts (Lucius?) Voldemort finds out about a skilled and vulnerable Sev and starts preying on him

-he is on the fence, but when he finds out Lily is dating James (his tormentor) in 1978, that tips him over the edge

-his motivation for joining the DE is revenge for the pain the light side caused him (the M bullying, Dumbledore covering it all up, Lily "betraying" him by joining his tormentors), gaining power to protect himself against future attacks, and to protect Lily from "their clutches"

-he comes home that summer to find out his father died in a car accident (he was driving while drunk), so he owns the Spinner’s End house

-he receives the Dark Mark a few months after graduation September 1978

-Voldemort instructs Sev to use his home to make potions for the DE

-he occasionally takes part in battles, but during his first year, his main job is brewing potions

-while spending so much time at home, he goes through his old belongings and discovers things from his friendship with Lily

-guilt starts to manifest, but the DE are the first people who value him and his skills and don’t make fun of him, so he ignores their pure-blood ideology even though he doesn’t believe in it himself

-in 1979/1980 Voldemort starts using Sev as a spy as he recognises his talent for it during previous battles

-15.05.1980 the Prophecy

-August 1980 Voldemort decides to go after the Potters and guilt hits Sev in the face so hard he can barely breathe

-"well, I don’t care about Potter, but I can’t leave Lily dead or unhappy"

-asking Voldemort to spare her (had he asked for the whole family, it would have been suspicious)

-asking Dumbledore to spare all ("Anything.")

-starts teaching at Hogwarts (V believes it is to spy on D but it’s actually the opposite)

-Halloween 1981

-guilt and grief times ♾

Saw The "Fantastic Beasts" Movies And I'm Really Stumped About Credence...

Specifically on whether or not I should write him being Snape's maternal grandpa. Perhaps, during his time with Grindelwald, Grindelwald knew Credence could die soon/fail him. So, the Dark Wizard (for some reason) sought the help of a pure-blood family, the Princes' who's daughter and only child was made to marry Credencein hopes to produce a "suitable heir". One that can be more powerful as Credence. Eileen Prince would be the result.

Credence would (most likely) die not knowing his child (he probably didn't even know his wife/lover was expecting at the time). So, Eileen would be reared by the Prince family who, embittered by Grindelwald's defeat and finding Eileen to be a disapointment, the little girl grew up in an unloving household. This would soon drive her to (perhaps) work for Tom Riddle Jr. until a change of heart made her go for the Muggle boy, Tobias Snape.

While this would make sense (especially since the third movie had Credence look so much like Snape that it couldn't have been a coincidence), I'm hesitant on going with this story line for my own fanfic for a few reasons:

-How would Albus and/or Aberforth see Eileen and then Severus around Hogwarts and not put 2 and 2 together? Especially with how Severus and Credence resembled each other. Granted, the Dumbledores probably weren't aware of the situation, but, you'd think Credence would've said something about leaving a wife/girlfriend behind let alone a baby. Surely Aberforth would've been adamant to not let history repeat.

-If Albus somehow managed to figure it out, why the flip couldn't he tell Aberforth or Severus?! Did he assume Aberforth would jeopardize Snape's duty as a spy?

-My fic already has the reveal (don't know if I should clal it that as I'm thinking about having the story down in chronological order) of Severus, himself, fathering a child prior to "Philosopher's Stone". Another Snape Paternity Reveal would be so redundant, would it?

They stand there in silence, and Sev reaches the end of his fag. He tosses it into the fresh earth that covers the grave.

“I’m leaving,” he says. “I’m getting out of this stinking pisshole and I’m never coming back.”

Lily looks down. “Yeah,” she says. “I’m leaving too.”

Sev snorts. “Shacking up with Potter already, are you?”

“None of your business.”

“I’ll take that as a yes.”

“Take it however you like.”

Sev glares stonily down at his hands as he rolls another cigarette. They’re shaking, and the end result is wonkier than he’d have liked. Lily says nothing.

“So this is it, then?” he says, putting it to his lips.

She nods, sadly. “Yeah, I suppose it is.”

Sev flicks ash onto his dad’s grave. Cokeworth, the very last thing that binds them, is draining away, leaving whatever was as cold and empty as Tobias below them.

“Well, goodbye, Sev,” Lily says at last. “Be careful.”

“Bye, Lily,” he says miserably.

He watches her retreating back down the path back to the church. For some reason he’s suddenly gripped by the thought that this is the last time he’ll ever see her.

Sev watches her go, until she’s out of sight.

this is a character study of lily evans. this is taken directly from my main blog, but it's honestly written more like a fic so here you go

lily realizes from a young age that she is different. none of the other kids can do the kinds of things she can, certainly not petunia who scorns anything she doesn't see as normal. as far as she knows, no one else ever makes things explode or anything like that, so, yeah, she's definitely not normal.

but then she meets the strange boy who defends her from petunia and calls her a witch. at first she's offended, but maybe it's not too far of a stretch. maybe there really is an explanation for all the weird things that happen around her. the fact that severus can do strange things too only makes him more credible.

and she enjoys hanging out with him, despite what petunia says. she doesn't care about his dirty appearance or his strange, torn clothes. she cares about him as a person, and he seems pretty good.

so he answers her questions, and she gives him an escape from his crappy parents. she defends him from what she now knows as "muggles", though she will never say the word with contempt as he does.

petunia gets worse, though. she can't stand the magic or the jealousy, and it shows. lily can't help but feel bad for her sister.

then she goes to hogwarts with severus. she loves seeing magic, but the two boys on the train threaten to ruin this experience. she hopes she gets slytherin if only to keep away from them.

she gets gryffindor. eugh.

severus is upset, but ultimately, they keep their bond. however, she can't help but notice the people he's trying to make friends with. she honestly doesn't believe it at first. they are so horrible to her and people like her! how can he willingly spend time with them? but, she supposes, they are what's there, and maybe she should cut him some slack.

at the same time, she watches the marauders grow in popularity. it seems everyone is looking for a good laugh in the midst of the war, even at the expense of others. however, she really only dislikes sirius, and james especially. she doesn't mind remus and peter - remus is just as studious as her, and she thinks maybe severus would like him if he would just get to know remus, but everytime she brings it up, severus gets all judgey and smug like he knows something she doesn't. yet another thing she's growing to hate.

the thing that bothers her the most though isn't james' refusal to take no for an answer; no, she can't get past the bullying. and that's what it is, isn't it? bullying. she also can't stand that severus reciprocates. what does he think he's accomplishing by stooping to their level?

the next thing that happens, she only hears about, but what she hears is horrific. how dare severus try to get remus expelled? when all remus ever wanted was an education? and how dare sirius him? no, she can't forgive this.

finally, it comes to fruition at the lake. james and sirius take things too far, which doesn't surprise her, but what does surprise her is severus. she'd thought he was above that! how could he call he call her a mudblood, how could he agree with the death eaters? does he not realize these are the people that would rather she be dead than holding a wand?

either way, it's the tipping point. she's done.

so she spends the summer at home, avoiding severus and avoiding petunia. it's a dreadful summer, really, and she's beyond relieved when it's time to board the train again. she's excited to see the girls and remus, but she really is dreading seeing james and severus.

she never got what she expected, though. james seems to have taken what she said to him to heart, and he doesn't ask her out a single time throughout sixth year, and they barely mess with any of the slytherins, even severus. her friends really come through, too, making sure severus never gets close enough to talk to her.

so it's no surprise when she decides to give james and sirius a chance in the middle of sixth year. she is horrified to hear about sirius' family, and she can't help but relate with petunia. it doesn't explain everything, but it certainly helps. and she begins to see james in a new light. she doesn't forgive them, but she starts to see the beginnings of a friendship.

then petunia announces her engagement to vernon dursley, an absolute cabbage of a man. he is one of the worst people she's ever met, and she's met bellatrix black.

but it is the push she needs to finally fully embrace her relationship with the marauders. it's time she let go of the muggle world and allow herself to enjoy the good bits of the wizarding world.

and so begins seventh year. she agrees to go on a date with james (who nearly passes out), and the rest of the marauders take her in as if she never hated them at all.

she still goes to petunia's wedding, but she has a date that puts the entire wedding party to shame. and it is then that she realizes she doesn't have to keep letting petunia walk all over her. she's found her family, and petunia isn't it.

they graduate. they join the order. despite the last several years, she still can't believe severus is a devoted death eater, and they all miss the signs of peter's betrayal. she can't believe anyone would want her baby dead. which is why she and james are completely blindsided by news of the traitor.

but they do go into hiding, and they take sirius' advice and make peter the secret keeper, because even now, she can't believe anyone would sell out her family.

because, even as she takes her dying breath, she still wants to believe that people are good.
