Note
Will you explain the belief of trinity in Christianity? Are people who have this belief regarded as People of the Book today? Can the flesh of the animals slaughtered by them be eaten? Can Muslims marry them?
Allah Almighty states the following in verse 17 of the chapter of al-Maida:
“In blasphemy indeed are those that say that Allah is Christ the son of Mary. Say: "Who then hath the least power against Allah, if His will were to destroy Christ the son of Mary, his mother, and all every - one that is on the earth? For to Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between. He createth what He pleaseth. For Allah hath power over all things.”
Some verses regarding the issue are as follows:
"The Jews call ´Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah´s curse be on them..." (at-Tawba, 9/30)
"They say: ‘Allah hath begotten a son.’ Glory be to Him.-Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: everything renders worship to Him." (al-Baqara, 2/116)
"O People of the Book!... Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah... Say not ‘Trinity’… Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son..." (an-Nisa, 4/171)
"They do blaspheme who say: ‘Allah is Christ the son of Mary.’ But said Christ: ‘O Children of Israel! Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’… They do blaspheme who say: ‘Allah is one of three in a Trinity.’ (al-Maida, 5/72, 73)
According to those verses, the belief of trinity is not something new. For, Allah calls them "unbelievers". So, the understanding of trinity of Christians belongs to the time before the Prophet (pbuh). Despite this, the Quran uses the phrase People of the Book in the same verses. Therefore, those who believe in trinity are regarded as People of the Book; what they slaughter can be eaten; it is permissible to marry a woman of People of the Book.

سورة البقرة 106 -- 202
مَا نَنسَخْ مِنْ آيَةٍ أَوْ نُنسِهَا نَأْتِ بِخَيْرٍ مِّنْهَا أَوْ مِثْلِهَا أَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ( 106 )
None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar: Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things?
أَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللَّهَ لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ اللَّهِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ ( 107 )
Knowest thou not that to Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth? And besides Him ye have neither patron nor helper.
أَمْ تُرِيدُونَ أَن تَسْأَلُوا رَسُولَكُمْ كَمَا سُئِلَ مُوسَىٰ مِن قَبْلُ وَمَن يَتَبَدَّلِ الْكُفْرَ بِالْإِيمَانِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَاءَ السَّبِيلِ ( 108 )
Would ye question your Messenger as Moses was questioned of old? but whoever changeth from Faith to Unbelief, Hath strayed without doubt from the even way.
وَدَّ كَثِيرٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَوْ يَرُدُّونَكُم مِّن بَعْدِ إِيمَانِكُمْ كُفَّارًا حَسَدًا مِّنْ عِندِ أَنفُسِهِم مِّن بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الْحَقُّ فَاعْفُوا وَاصْفَحُوا حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَ اللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ( 109 )
Quite a number of the People of the Book wish they could Turn you (people) back to infidelity after ye have believed, from selfish envy, after the Truth hath become Manifest unto them: But forgive and overlook, Till Allah accomplish His purpose; for Allah Hath power over all things.
وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ ( 110 )
And be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity: And whatever good ye send forth for your souls before you, ye shall find it with Allah: for Allah sees Well all that ye do.
وَقَالُوا لَن يَدْخُلَ الْجَنَّةَ إِلَّا مَن كَانَ هُودًا أَوْ نَصَارَىٰ تِلْكَ أَمَانِيُّهُمْ قُلْ هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ ( 111 )
And they say: "None shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian." Those are their (vain) desires. Say: "Produce your proof if ye are truthful."
بَلَىٰ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَلَهُ أَجْرُهُ عِندَ رَبِّهِ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ ( 112 )
Nay,-whoever submits His whole self to Allah and is a doer of good,- He will get his reward with his Lord; on such shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ لَيْسَتِ النَّصَارَىٰ عَلَىٰ شَيْءٍ وَقَالَتِ النَّصَارَىٰ لَيْسَتِ الْيَهُودُ عَلَىٰ شَيْءٍ وَهُمْ يَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ كَذَٰلِكَ قَالَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِمْ فَاللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِيمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ ( 113 )
The Jews say: "The Christians have naught (to stand) upon; and the Christians say: "The Jews have naught (To stand) upon." Yet they (Profess to) study the (same) Book. Like unto their word is what those say who know not; but Allah will judge between them in their quarrel on the Day of Judgment.
وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن مَّنَعَ مَسَاجِدَ اللَّهِ أَن يُذْكَرَ فِيهَا اسْمُهُ وَسَعَىٰ فِي خَرَابِهَا أُولَٰئِكَ مَا كَانَ لَهُمْ أَن يَدْخُلُوهَا إِلَّا خَائِفِينَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا خِزْيٌ وَلَهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ ( 114 )
And who is more unjust than he who forbids that in places for the worship of Allah, Allah's name should be celebrated?-whose zeal is (in fact) to ruin them? It was not fitting that such should themselves enter them except in fear. For them there is nothing but disgrace in this world, and in the world to come, an exceeding torment.
وَلِلَّهِ الْمَشْرِقُ وَالْمَغْرِبُ فَأَيْنَمَا تُوَلُّوا فَثَمَّ وَجْهُ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ ( 115 )
To Allah belong the east and the West: Whithersoever ye turn, there is the presence of Allah. For Allah is all-Pervading, all-Knowing.
وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ وَلَدًا سُبْحَانَهُ بَل لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ كُلٌّ لَّهُ قَانِتُونَ ( 116 )
They say: "Allah hath begotten a son" :Glory be to Him.-Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: everything renders worship to Him.
بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَإِذَا قَضَىٰ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ ( 117 )
To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: When He decreeth a matter, He saith to it: "Be," and it is.
وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ لَوْلَا يُكَلِّمُنَا اللَّهُ أَوْ تَأْتِينَا آيَةٌ كَذَٰلِكَ قَالَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّثْلَ قَوْلِهِمْ تَشَابَهَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ قَدْ بَيَّنَّا الْآيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يُوقِنُونَ ( 118 )
Say those without knowledge: "Why speaketh not Allah unto us? or why cometh not unto us a Sign?" So said the people before them words of similar import. Their hearts are alike. We have indeed made clear the Signs unto any people who hold firmly to Faith (in their hearts).
إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا وَلَا تُسْأَلُ عَنْ أَصْحَابِ الْجَحِيمِ ( 119 )
Verily We have sent thee in truth as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner: But of thee no question shall be asked of the Companions of the Blazing Fire.
وَلَن تَرْضَىٰ عَنكَ الْيَهُودُ وَلَا النَّصَارَىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَهُمْ قُلْ إِنَّ هُدَى اللَّهِ هُوَ الْهُدَىٰ وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَاءَهُم بَعْدَ الَّذِي جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ مَا لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ ( 120 )
Never will the Jews or the Christians be satisfied with thee unless thou follow their form of religion. Say: "The Guidance of Allah,-that is the (only) Guidance." Wert thou to follow their desires after the knowledge which hath reached thee, then wouldst thou find neither Protector nor helper against Allah.
الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَتْلُونَهُ حَقَّ تِلَاوَتِهِ أُولَٰئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِهِ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ ( 121 )
Those to whom We have sent the Book study it as it should be studied: They are the ones that believe therein: Those who reject faith therein,- the loss is their own.
يَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَتِيَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأَنِّي فَضَّلْتُكُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ ( 122 )
O Children of Israel! call to mind the special favour which I bestowed upon you, and that I preferred you to all others (for My Message).
وَاتَّقُوا يَوْمًا لَّا تَجْزِي نَفْسٌ عَن نَّفْسٍ شَيْئًا وَلَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْهَا عَدْلٌ وَلَا تَنفَعُهَا شَفَاعَةٌ وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ ( 123 )
Then guard yourselves against a-Day when one soul shall not avail another, nor shall compensation be accepted from her nor shall intercession profit her nor shall anyone be helped (from outside).
وَإِذِ ابْتَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ رَبُّهُ بِكَلِمَاتٍ فَأَتَمَّهُنَّ قَالَ إِنِّي جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامًا قَالَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي قَالَ لَا يَنَالُ عَهْدِي الظَّالِمِينَ ( 124 )
And remember that Abraham was tried by his Lord with certain commands, which he fulfilled: He said: "I will make thee an Imam to the Nations." He pleaded: "And also (Imams) from my offspring!" He answered: "But My Promise is not within the reach of evil-doers."
وَإِذْ جَعَلْنَا الْبَيْتَ مَثَابَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَمْنًا وَاتَّخِذُوا مِن مَّقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى وَعَهِدْنَا إِلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ أَن طَهِّرَا بَيْتِيَ لِلطَّائِفِينَ وَالْعَاكِفِينَ وَالرُّكَّعِ السُّجُودِ ( 125 )
Remember We made the House a place of assembly for men and a place of safety; and take ye the station of Abraham as a place of prayer; and We covenanted with Abraham and Isma'il, that they should sanctify My House for those who compass it round, or use it as a retreat, or bow, or prostrate themselves (therein in prayer).
وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَٰذَا بَلَدًا آمِنًا وَارْزُقْ أَهْلَهُ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ مَنْ آمَنَ مِنْهُم بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ قَالَ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَأُمَتِّعُهُ قَلِيلًا ثُمَّ أَضْطَرُّهُ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ النَّارِ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ ( 126 )
And remember Abraham said: "My Lord, make this a City of Peace, and feed its people with fruits,-such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day." He said: "(Yea), and such as reject Faith,-for a while will I grant them their pleasure, but will soon drive them to the torment of Fire,- an evil destination (indeed)!"
وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ ( 127 )
And remember Abraham and Isma'il raised the foundations of the House (With this prayer): "Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us: For Thou art the All-Hearing, the All-knowing.
رَبَّنَا وَاجْعَلْنَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ لَكَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِنَا أُمَّةً مُّسْلِمَةً لَّكَ وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ ( 128 )
"Our Lord! make of us Muslims, bowing to Thy (Will), and of our progeny a people Muslim, bowing to Thy (will); and show us our place for the celebration of (due) rites; and turn unto us (in Mercy); for Thou art the Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.
رَبَّنَا وَابْعَثْ فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِكَ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ ( 129 )
"Our Lord! send amongst them a Messenger of their own, who shall rehearse Thy Signs to them and instruct them in scripture and wisdom, and sanctify them: For Thou art the Exalted in Might, the Wise."
وَمَن يَرْغَبُ عَن مِّلَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِلَّا مَن سَفِهَ نَفْسَهُ وَلَقَدِ اصْطَفَيْنَاهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَإِنَّهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ( 130 )
And who turns away from the religion of Abraham but such as debase their souls with folly? Him We chose and rendered pure in this world: And he will be in the Hereafter in the ranks of the Righteous.
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُ رَبُّهُ أَسْلِمْ قَالَ أَسْلَمْتُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ( 131 )
Behold! his Lord said to him: "Bow (thy will to Me):" He said: "I bow (my will) to the Lord and Cherisher of the Universe."
وَوَصَّىٰ بِهَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بَنِيهِ وَيَعْقُوبُ يَا بَنِيَّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَىٰ لَكُمُ الدِّينَ فَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ ( 132 )
And this was the legacy that Abraham left to his sons, and so did Jacob; "Oh my sons! Allah hath chosen the Faith for you; then die not except in the Faith of Islam."
أَمْ كُنتُمْ شُهَدَاءَ إِذْ حَضَرَ يَعْقُوبَ الْمَوْتُ إِذْ قَالَ لِبَنِيهِ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن بَعْدِي قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ إِلَٰهَكَ وَإِلَٰهَ آبَائِكَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ إِلَٰهًا وَاحِدًا وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُسْلِمُونَ ( 133 )
Were ye witnesses when death appeared before Jacob? Behold, he said to his sons: "What will ye worship after me?" They said: "We shall worship Thy god and the god of thy fathers, of Abraham, Isma'il and Isaac,- the one (True) Allah: To Him we bow (in Islam)."
تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ وَلَا تُسْأَلُونَ عَمَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ( 134 )
That was a people that hath passed away. They shall reap the fruit of what they did, and ye of what ye do! Of their merits there is no question in your case!
وَقَالُوا كُونُوا هُودًا أَوْ نَصَارَىٰ تَهْتَدُوا قُلْ بَلْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ( 135 )
They say: "Become Jews or Christians if ye would be guided (To salvation)." Say thou: "Nay! (I would rather) the Religion of Abraham the True, and he joined not gods with Allah."
قُولُوا آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْنَا وَمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالْأَسْبَاطِ وَمَا أُوتِيَ مُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰ وَمَا أُوتِيَ النَّبِيُّونَ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّنْهُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُسْلِمُونَ ( 136 )
Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)."
فَإِنْ آمَنُوا بِمِثْلِ مَا آمَنتُم بِهِ فَقَدِ اهْتَدَوا وَّإِن تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّمَا هُمْ فِي شِقَاقٍ فَسَيَكْفِيكَهُمُ اللَّهُ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ ( 137 )
So if they believe as ye believe, they are indeed on the right path; but if they turn back, it is they who are in schism; but Allah will suffice thee as against them, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
صِبْغَةَ اللَّهِ وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ مِنَ اللَّهِ صِبْغَةً وَنَحْنُ لَهُ عَابِدُونَ ( 138 )
(Our religion is) the Baptism of Allah: And who can baptize better than Allah? And it is He Whom we worship.
قُلْ أَتُحَاجُّونَنَا فِي اللَّهِ وَهُوَ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمْ وَلَنَا أَعْمَالُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَالُكُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُخْلِصُونَ ( 139 )
Say: Will ye dispute with us about Allah, seeing that He is our Lord and your Lord; that we are responsible for our doings and ye for yours; and that We are sincere (in our faith) in Him?
أَمْ تَقُولُونَ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالْأَسْبَاطَ كَانُوا هُودًا أَوْ نَصَارَىٰ قُلْ أَأَنتُمْ أَعْلَمُ أَمِ اللَّهُ وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن كَتَمَ شَهَادَةً عِندَهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَمَا اللَّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ ( 140 )
Or do ye say that Abraham, Isma'il Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes were Jews or Christians? Say: Do ye know better than Allah? Ah! who is more unjust than those who conceal the testimony they have from Allah? but Allah is not unmindful of what ye do!
تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ وَلَا تُسْأَلُونَ عَمَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ( 141 )
That was a people that hath passed away. They shall reap the fruit of what they did, and ye of what ye do! Of their merits there is no question in your case:
سَيَقُولُ السُّفَهَاءُ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَا وَلَّاهُمْ عَن قِبْلَتِهِمُ الَّتِي كَانُوا عَلَيْهَا قُل لِّلَّهِ الْمَشْرِقُ وَالْمَغْرِبُ يَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ ( 142 )
The fools among the people will say: "What hath turned them from the Qibla to which they were used?" Say: To Allah belong both east and West: He guideth whom He will to a Way that is straight.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلْنَاكُمْ أُمَّةً وَسَطًا لِّتَكُونُوا شُهَدَاءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَيَكُونَ الرَّسُولُ عَلَيْكُمْ شَهِيدًا وَمَا جَعَلْنَا الْقِبْلَةَ الَّتِي كُنتَ عَلَيْهَا إِلَّا لِنَعْلَمَ مَن يَتَّبِعُ الرَّسُولَ مِمَّن يَنقَلِبُ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَيْهِ وَإِن كَانَتْ لَكَبِيرَةً إِلَّا عَلَى الَّذِينَ هَدَى اللَّهُ وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِالنَّاسِ لَرَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ ( 143 )
Thus, have We made of you an Ummat justly balanced, that ye might be witnesses over the nations, and the Messenger a witness over yourselves; and We appointed the Qibla to which thou wast used, only to test those who followed the Messenger from those who would turn on their heels (From the Faith). Indeed it was (A change) momentous, except to those guided by Allah. And never would Allah Make your faith of no effect. For Allah is to all people Most surely full of kindness, Most Merciful.
قَدْ نَرَىٰ تَقَلُّبَ وَجْهِكَ فِي السَّمَاءِ فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ قِبْلَةً تَرْضَاهَا فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنتُمْ فَوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُ وَإِنَّ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ لَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ وَمَا اللَّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ ( 144 )
We see the turning of thy face (for guidance to the heavens: now Shall We turn thee to a Qibla that shall please thee. Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque: Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction. The people of the Book know well that that is the truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do.
وَلَئِنْ أَتَيْتَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ بِكُلِّ آيَةٍ مَّا تَبِعُوا قِبْلَتَكَ وَمَا أَنتَ بِتَابِعٍ قِبْلَتَهُمْ وَمَا بَعْضُهُم بِتَابِعٍ قِبْلَةَ بَعْضٍ وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَاءَهُم مِّن بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِنَّكَ إِذًا لَّمِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ ( 145 )
Even if thou wert to bring to the people of the Book all the Signs (together), they would not follow Thy Qibla; nor art thou going to follow their Qibla; nor indeed will they follow each other's Qibla. If thou after the knowledge hath reached thee, Wert to follow their (vain) desires,-then wert thou Indeed (clearly) in the wrong.
الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَعْرِفُونَهُ كَمَا يَعْرِفُونَ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ وَإِنَّ فَرِيقًا مِّنْهُمْ لَيَكْتُمُونَ الْحَقَّ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ ( 146 )
The people of the Book know this as they know their own sons; but some of them conceal the truth which they themselves know.
الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُمْتَرِينَ ( 147 )
The Truth is from thy Lord; so be not at all in doubt.
وَلِكُلٍّ وِجْهَةٌ هُوَ مُوَلِّيهَا فَاسْتَبِقُوا الْخَيْرَاتِ أَيْنَ مَا تَكُونُوا يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللَّهُ جَمِيعًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ( 148 )
To each is a goal to which Allah turns him; then strive together (as in a race) Towards all that is good. Wheresoever ye are, Allah will bring you Together. For Allah Hath power over all things.
وَمِنْ حَيْثُ خَرَجْتَ فَوَلّ�� وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَإِنَّهُ لَلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ وَمَا اللَّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ ( 149 )
From whencesoever Thou startest forth, turn Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque; that is indeed the truth from the Lord. And Allah is not unmindful of what ye do.
وَمِنْ حَيْثُ خَرَجْتَ فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنتُمْ فَوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُ لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَيْكُمْ حُجَّةٌ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا مِنْهُمْ فَلَا تَخْشَوْهُمْ وَاخْشَوْنِي وَلِأُتِمَّ نِعْمَتِي عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ ( 150 )
So from whencesoever Thou startest forth, turn Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque; and wheresoever ye are, Turn your face thither: that there be no ground of dispute against you among the people, except those of them that are bent on wickedness; so fear them not, but fear Me; and that I may complete My favours on you, and ye May (consent to) be guided;
كَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا فِيكُمْ رَسُولًا مِّنكُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتِنَا وَيُزَكِّيكُمْ وَيُعَلِّمُكُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَيُعَلِّمُكُم مَّا لَمْ تَكُونُوا تَعْلَمُونَ ( 151 )
A similar (favour have ye already received) in that We have sent among you a Messenger of your own, rehearsing to you Our Signs, and sanctifying you, and instructing you in Scripture and Wisdom, and in new knowledge.
فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِي وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ ( 152 )
Then do ye remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me, and reject not Faith.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ ( 153 )
O ye who believe! seek help with patient perseverance and prayer; for Allah is with those who patiently persevere.
وَلَا تَقُولُوا لِمَن ي��قْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَمْوَاتٌ بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تَشْعُرُونَ ( 154 )
And say not of those who are slain in the way of Allah: "They are dead." Nay, they are living, though ye perceive (it) not.
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُم بِشَيْءٍ مِّنَ الْخَوْفِ وَالْجُوعِ وَنَقْصٍ مِّنَ الْأَمْوَالِ وَالْأَنفُسِ وَالثَّمَرَاتِ وَبَشِّرِ الصَّابِرِينَ ( 155 )
Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere,
الَّذِينَ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالُوا إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ ( 156 )
Who say, when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return":-
أُولَٰئِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ صَلَوَاتٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُهْتَدُونَ ( 157 )
They are those on whom (Descend) blessings from Allah, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance.
إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ فَمَنْ حَجَّ الْبَيْتَ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَن يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا وَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيمٌ ( 158 )
Behold! Safa and Marwa are among the Symbols of Allah. So if those who visit the House in the Season or at other times, should compass them round, it is no sin in them. And if any one obeyeth his own impulse to good,- be sure that Allah is He Who recogniseth and knoweth.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدَىٰ مِن بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّاهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الْكِتَابِ أُولَٰئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّاعِنُونَ ( 159 )
Those who conceal the clear (Signs) We have sent down, and the Guidance, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book,-on them shall be Allah's curse, and the curse of those entitled to curse,-
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ تَابُوا وَأَصْلَحُوا وَبَيَّنُوا فَأُولَٰئِكَ أَتُوبُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَنَا التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ ( 160 )
Except those who repent and make amends and openly declare (the Truth): To them I turn; for I am Oft-returning, Most Merciful.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَمَاتُوا وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ أُولَٰئِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ ( 161 )
Those who reject Faith, and die rejecting,- on them is Allah's curse, and the curse of angels, and of all mankind;
خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا لَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمُ الْعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ ( 162 )
They will abide therein: Their penalty will not be lightened, nor will respite be their (lot).
وَإِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ الرَّحِيمُ ( 163 )
And your Allah is One Allah: There is no god but He, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَالْفُلْكِ الَّتِي تَجْرِي فِي الْبَحْرِ بِمَا يَنفَعُ النَّاسَ وَمَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مِن مَّاءٍ فَأَحْيَا بِهِ الْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا وَبَثَّ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ دَابَّةٍ وَتَصْرِيفِ الرِّيَاحِ وَالسَّحَابِ الْمُسَخَّرِ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ ( 164 )
Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- (Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise.
وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ أَندَادًا يُحِبُّونَهُمْ كَحُبِّ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَشَدُّ حُبًّا لِّلَّهِ وَلَوْ يَرَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا إِذْ يَرَوْنَ الْعَذَابَ أَنَّ الْقُوَّةَ لِلَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعَذَابِ ( 165 )
Yet there are men who take (for worship) others besides Allah, as equal (with Allah): They love them as they should love Allah. But those of Faith are overflowing in their love for Allah. If only the unrighteous could see, behold, they would see the penalty: that to Allah belongs all power, and Allah will strongly enforce the penalty.
إِذْ تَبَرَّأَ الَّذِينَ اتُّبِعُوا ��ِنَ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوا وَرَأَوُا الْعَذَابَ وَتَقَطَّعَتْ بِهِمُ الْأَسْبَابُ ( 166 )
Then would those who are followed clear themselves of those who follow (them) : They would see the penalty, and all relations between them would be cut off.
وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوا لَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً فَنَتَبَرَّأَ مِنْهُمْ كَمَا تَبَرَّءُوا مِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ يُرِيهِمُ اللَّهُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ حَسَرَاتٍ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَا هُم بِخَارِجِينَ مِنَ النَّارِ ( 167 )
And those who followed would say: "If only We had one more chance, We would clear ourselves of them, as they have cleared themselves of us." Thus will Allah show them (The fruits of) their deeds as (nothing but) regrets. Nor will there be a way for them out of the Fire.
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ كُلُوا مِمَّا فِي الْأَرْضِ حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ ( 168 )
O ye people! Eat of what is on earth, Lawful and good; and do not follow the footsteps of the evil one, for he is to you an avowed enemy.
إِنَّمَا يَأْمُرُكُم بِالسُّوءِ وَالْفَحْشَاءِ وَأَن تَقُولُوا عَلَى اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ( 169 )
For he commands you what is evil and shameful, and that ye should say of Allah that of which ye have no knowledge.
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اتَّبِعُوا مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ قَالُوا بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا أَلْفَيْنَا عَلَيْهِ آبَاءَنَا أَوَلَوْ كَانَ آبَاؤُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَهْتَدُونَ ( 170 )
When it is said to them: "Follow what Allah hath revealed:" They say: "Nay! we shall follow the ways of our fathers." What! even though their fathers Were void of wisdom and guidance?
وَمَثَلُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا كَمَثَلِ الَّذِي يَنْعِقُ بِمَا لَا يَسْمَعُ إِلَّا دُعَاءً وَنِدَاءً صُمٌّ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ ( 171 )
The parable of those who reject Faith is as if one were to shout Like a goat-herd, to things that listen to nothing but calls and cries: Deaf, dumb, and blind, they are void of wisdom.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُلُوا مِن طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِلَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ ( 172 )
O ye who believe! Eat of the good things that We have provided for you, and be grateful to Allah, if it is Him ye worship.
إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةَ وَالدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ الْخِنزِيرِ وَمَا أُهِلَّ بِهِ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلَا عَادٍ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ( 173 )
He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَيَشْتَرُونَ بِهِ ثَمَنًا ��َلِيلًا أُولَٰئِكَ مَا يَأْكُلُونَ فِي بُطُونِهِمْ إِلَّا النَّارَ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ( 174 )
Those who conceal Allah's revelations in the Book, and purchase for them a miserable profit,- they swallow into themselves naught but Fire; Allah will not address them on the Day of Resurrection. Nor purify them: Grievous will be their penalty.
أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ اشْتَرَوُا الضَّلَالَةَ بِالْهُدَىٰ وَالْعَذَابَ بِالْمَغْفِرَةِ فَمَا أَصْبَرَهُمْ عَلَى النَّارِ ( 175 )
They are the ones who buy Error in place of Guidance and Torment in place of Forgiveness. Ah! what boldness (They show) for the Fire!
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ نَزَّلَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّ الَّذِينَ اخْتَلَفُوا فِي الْكِتَابِ لَفِي شِقَاقٍ بَعِيدٍ ( 176 )
(Their doom is) because Allah sent down the Book in truth but those who seek causes of dispute in the Book are in a schism Far (from the purpose).
لَّيْسَ الْبِرَّ أَن تُوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَلَٰكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالْكِتَابِ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ وَآتَى الْمَالَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ ذَوِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَالْيَتَامَىٰ وَالْمَسَاكِينَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيلِ وَالسَّائِلِينَ وَفِي الرِّقَابِ وَأَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ وَآتَى الزَّكَاةَ وَالْمُوفُونَ بِعَهْدِهِمْ إِذَا عَاهَدُوا وَالصَّابِرِينَ فِي الْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ وَحِينَ الْبَأْسِ أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُتَّقُونَ ( 177 )
It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah-fearing.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْقِصَاصُ فِي الْقَتْلَى الْحُرُّ بِالْحُرِّ وَالْعَبْدُ بِالْعَبْدِ وَالْأُنثَىٰ بِالْأُنثَىٰ فَمَنْ عُفِيَ لَهُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ شَيْءٌ فَاتِّبَاعٌ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَأَدَاءٌ إِلَيْهِ بِإِحْسَانٍ ذَٰلِكَ تَخْفِيفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ فَمَنِ اعْتَدَىٰ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فَلَهُ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ( 178 )
O ye who believe! the law of equality is prescribed to you in cases of murder: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the woman for the woman. But if any remission is made by the brother of the slain, then grant any reasonable demand, and compensate him with handsome gratitude, this is a concession and a Mercy from your Lord. After this whoever exceeds the limits shall be in grave penalty.
وَلَكُمْ فِي الْقِصَاصِ حَيَاةٌ يَا أُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ ( 179 )
In the Law of Equality there is (saving of) Life to you, o ye men of understanding; that ye may restrain yourselves.
كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ إِن تَرَكَ خَيْرًا الْوَصِيَّةُ لِلْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالْأَقْرَبِينَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ حَقًّا عَلَى الْمُتَّقِينَ ( 180 )
It is prescribed, when death approaches any of you, if he leave any goods that he make a bequest to parents and next of kin, according to reasonable usage; this is due from the Allah-fearing.
فَمَن بَدَّلَهُ بَعْدَمَا سَمِعَهُ فَإِنَّمَا إِثْمُهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ يُبَدِّلُونَهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ ( 181 )
If anyone changes the bequest after hearing it, the guilt shall be on those who make the change. For Allah hears and knows (All things).
فَمَنْ خَافَ مِن مُّوصٍ جَنَفًا أَوْ إِثْمًا فَأَصْلَحَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ( 182 )
But if anyone fears partiality or wrong-doing on the part of the testator, and makes peace between (The parties concerned), there is no wrong in him: For Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ ( 183 )
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint,-
أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَاتٍ فَمَن كَانَ مِنكُم مَّرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ وَعَلَى الَّذِينَ يُطِيقُونَهُ فِدْيَةٌ طَعَامُ مِسْكِينٍ فَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّهُ وَأَن تَصُومُوا خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ( 184 )
(Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any of you is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed number (Should be made up) from days later. For those who can do it (With hardship), is a ransom, the feeding of one that is indigent. But he that will give more, of his own free will,- it is better for him. And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew.
شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ هُدًى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِّنَ الْهُدَىٰ وَالْفُرْقَانِ فَمَن شَهِدَ مِنكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ وَمَن كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلَا يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَ وَلِتُكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُوا اللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَاكُمْ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ ( 185 )
Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.
وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا لِي وَلْيُؤْمِنُوا بِي لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْشُدُونَ ( 186 )
When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: Let them also, with a will, Listen to My call, and believe in Me: That they may walk in the right way.
أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ لَيْلَةَ الصِّيَامِ الرَّفَثُ إِلَىٰ نِسَائِكُمْ هُنَّ لِبَاسٌ لَّكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ لِبَاسٌ لَّهُنَّ عَلِمَ اللَّهُ أَنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَخْتَانُونَ أَنفُسَكُمْ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَفَا عَنكُمْ فَالْآنَ بَاشِرُوهُنَّ وَابْتَغُوا مَا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ أَتِمُّوا الصِّيَامَ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ وَلَا تُبَاشِرُوهُنَّ وَأَنتُمْ عَاكِفُونَ فِي الْمَسَاجِدِ تِلْكَ حُدُودُ اللَّهِ فَلَا تَقْرَبُوهَا كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ آيَاتِهِ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ ( 187 )
Permitted to you, on the night of the fasts, is the approach to your wives. They are your garments and ye are their garments. Allah knoweth what ye used to do secretly among yourselves; but Heturned to you and forgave you; so now associate with them, and seek what Allah Hath ordained for you, and eat and drink, until the white thread of dawn appear to you distinct from its black thread; then complete your fast Till the night appears; but do not associate with your wives while ye are in retreat in the mosques. Those are Limits (set by) Allah: Approach not nigh thereto. Thus doth Allah make clear His Signs to men: that they may learn self-restraint.
وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا أَمْوَالَكُم بَيْنَكُم بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتُدْلُوا بِهَا إِلَى الْحُكَّامِ لِتَأْكُلُوا فَرِيقًا مِّنْ أَمْوَالِ النَّاسِ بِالْإِثْمِ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ( 188 )
And do not eat up your property among yourselves for vanities, nor use it as bait for the judges, with intent that ye may eat up wrongfully and knowingly a little of (other) people's property.
يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْأَهِلَّةِ قُلْ هِيَ مَوَاقِيتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَالْحَجِّ وَلَيْسَ الْبِرُّ بِأَن تَأْتُوا الْبُيُوتَ مِن ظُهُورِهَا وَلَٰكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنِ اتَّقَىٰ وَأْتُوا الْبُيُوتَ مِنْ أَبْوَابِهَا وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ( 189 )
They ask thee concerning the New Moons. Say: They are but signs to mark fixed periods of time in (the affairs of) men, and for Pilgrimage. It is no virtue if ye enter your houses from the back: It is virtue if ye fear Allah. Enter houses through the proper doors: And fear Allah: That ye may prosper.
وَقَاتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ الَّذِينَ يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ وَلَا تَعْتَدُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ ( 190 )
Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors.
وَاقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ ثَقِفْتُمُوهُمْ وَأَخْرِجُوه��م مِّنْ حَيْثُ أَخْرَجُوكُمْ وَالْفِتْنَةُ أَشَدُّ مِنَ الْقَتْلِ وَلَا تُقَاتِلُوهُمْ عِندَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ حَتَّىٰ يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ فِيهِ فَإِن قَاتَلُوكُمْ فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ كَذَٰلِكَ جَزَاءُ الْكَافِرِينَ ( 191 )
And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.
فَإِنِ انتَهَوْا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ( 192 )
But if they cease, Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
وَقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ وَيَكُونَ الدِّينُ لِلَّهِ فَإِنِ انتَهَوْا فَلَا عُدْوَانَ إِلَّا عَلَى الظَّالِمِينَ ( 193 )
And fight them on until there is no more Tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah; but if they cease, Let there be no hostility except to those who practise oppression.
الشَّهْرُ الْحَرَامُ بِالشَّهْرِ الْحَرَامِ وَالْحُرُمَاتُ قِصَاصٌ فَمَنِ اعْتَدَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاعْتَدُوا عَلَيْهِ بِمِثْلِ مَا اعْتَدَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الْمُتَّقِينَ ( 194 )
The prohibited month for the prohibited month,- and so for all things prohibited,- there is the law of equality. If then any one transgresses the prohibition against you, Transgress ye likewise against him. But fear Allah, and know that Allah is with those who restrain themselves.
وَأَنفِقُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَلَا تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ وَأَحْسِنُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ ( 195 )
And spend of your substance in the cause of Allah, and make not your own hands contribute to (your) destruction; but do good; for Allah loveth those who do good.
وَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِ فَإِنْ أُحْصِرْتُمْ فَمَا اسْتَيْسَرَ مِنَ الْهَدْيِ وَلَا تَحْلِقُوا رُءُوسَكُمْ حَتَّىٰ يَبْلُغَ الْهَدْيُ مَحِلَّهُ فَمَن كَانَ مِنكُم مَّرِيضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِّن رَّأْسِهِ فَفِدْيَةٌ مِّن صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ فَإِذَا أَمِنتُمْ فَمَن تَمَتَّعَ بِالْعُمْرَةِ إِلَى الْحَجِّ فَمَا اسْتَيْسَرَ مِنَ الْهَدْيِ فَمَن لَّمْ يَجِدْ فَصِيَامُ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ فِي الْحَجِّ وَسَبْعَةٍ إِذَا رَجَعْتُمْ تِلْكَ عَشَرَةٌ كَامِلَةٌ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن لَّمْ يَكُنْ أَهْلُهُ حَاضِرِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ ( 196 )
And complete the Hajj or 'umra in the service of Allah. But if ye are prevented (From completing it), send an offering for sacrifice, such as ye may find, and do not shave your heads until the offering reaches the place of sacrifice. And if any of you is ill, or has an ailment in his scalp, (Necessitating shaving), (He should) in compensation either fast, or feed the poor, or offer sacrifice; and when ye are in peaceful conditions (again), if any one wishes to continue the 'umra on to the hajj, He must make an offering, such as he can afford, but if he cannot afford it, He should fast three days during the hajj and seven days on his return, Making ten days in all. This is for those whose household is not in (the precincts of) the Sacred Mosque. And fear Allah, and know that Allah Is strict in punishment.
الْحَجُّ أَش��هُرٌ مَّعْلُومَاتٌ فَمَن فَرَضَ فِيهِنَّ الْحَجَّ فَلَا رَفَثَ وَلَا فُسُوقَ وَلَا جِدَالَ فِي الْحَجِّ وَمَا تَفْعَلُوا مِنْ خَيْرٍ يَعْلَمْهُ اللَّهُ وَتَزَوَّدُوا فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الزَّادِ التَّقْوَىٰ وَاتَّقُونِ يَا أُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ ( 197 )
For Hajj are the months well known. If any one undertakes that duty therein, Let there be no obscenity, nor wickedness, nor wrangling in the Hajj. And whatever good ye do, (be sure) Allah knoweth it. And take a provision (With you) for the journey, but the best of provisions is right conduct. So fear Me, o ye that are wise.
لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَبْتَغُوا فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَإِذَا أَفَضْتُم مِّنْ عَرَفَاتٍ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ عِندَ الْمَشْعَرِ الْحَرَامِ وَاذْكُرُوهُ كَمَا هَدَاكُمْ وَإِن كُنتُم مِّن قَبْلِهِ لَمِنَ الضَّالِّينَ ( 198 )
It is no crime in you if ye seek of the bounty of your Lord (during pilgrimage). Then when ye pour down from (Mount) Arafat, celebrate the praises of Allah at the Sacred Monument, and celebrate His praises as He has directed you, even though, before this, ye went astray.
ثُمَّ أَفِيضُوا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ النَّاسُ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ( 199 )
Then pass on at a quick pace from the place whence it is usual for the multitude so to do, and ask for Allah's forgiveness. For Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُم مَّنَاسِكَكُمْ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ كَذِكْرِكُمْ آبَاءَكُمْ أَوْ أَشَدَّ ذِكْرًا فَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَمَا لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنْ خَلَاقٍ ( 200 )
So when ye have accomplished your holy rites, celebrate the praises of Allah, as ye used to celebrate the praises of your fathers,- yea, with far more Heart and soul. There are men who say: "Our Lord! Give us (Thy bounties) in this world!" but they will have no portion in the Hereafter.
وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ ( 201 )
And there are men who say: "Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and defend us from the torment of the Fire!"
أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا كَسَبُوا وَاللَّهُ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ ( 202 )
To these will be allotted what they have earned; and Allah is quick in account.

Verses including the word Isa (as) (Jesus) in The Holy Quran
We gave Moses the Book and followed him up with a succession of apostles; We gave Jesus the son of Mary Clear (Signs) and strengthened him with the holy spirit.Is it that whenever there comes to you an apostle with what ye yourselves desire not, ye are puffed up with pride?- Some ye called impostors, and others ye slay! (Surah Al-Baqara, 87)
Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)." (Surah Al-Baqara, 136)
Those apostles We endowed with gifts, some above others: To one of them Allah spoke; others He raised to degrees (of honour); to Jesus the son of Mary We gave clear (Signs), and strengthened him with the holy spirit.If Allah had so willed, succeeding generations would not have fought among each other, after clear (Signs) had come to them, but they (chose) to wrangle, some believing and others rejecting.If Allah had so willed, they would not have fought each other; but Allah Fulfilleth His plan. (Surah Al-Baqara, 253)
Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah. (Surah Al-Imran, 45)
"He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity.And he shall be (of the company) of the righteous." (Surah Al-Imran, 46)
She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man hath touched me?" He said: "Even so: Allah createth what He willeth: When He hath decreed a plan, He but saith to it, 'Be,' and it is! (Surah Al-Imran, 47)
"And Allah will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel, (Surah Al-Imran, 48)
"And (appoint him) an apostle to the Children of Israel, (with this message): "'I have come to you, with a Sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah.s leave: And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by Allah.s leave; and I declare to you what ye eat, and what ye store in your houses.Surely therein is a Sign for you if ye did believe; (Surah Al-Imran, 49)
"'(I have come to you), to attest the Law which was before me.And to make lawful to you part of what was (Before) forbidden to you; I have come to you with a Sign from your Lord.So fear Allah, and obey me. (Surah Al-Imran, 50)
"'It is Allah Who is my Lord and your Lord; then worship Him.This is a Way that is straight.'" (Surah Al-Imran, 51)
When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He said: "Who will be My helpers to (the work of) Allah." Said the disciples: "We are Allah.s helpers: We believe in Allah, and do thou bear witness that we are Muslims. (Surah Al-Imran, 52)
"Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger.then write us down among those who bear witness." (Surah Al-Imran, 53)
And (the unbelievers) plotted and planned, and Allah too planned, and the best of planners is Allah. (Surah Al-Imran, 54)
Behold! Allah said: "O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection: Then shall ye all return unto me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute. (Surah Al-Imran, 55)
The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: "Be".And he was. (Surah Al-Imran, 59)
The Truth (comes) from Allah alone; so be not of those who doubt. (Surah Al-Imran, 60)
Say: "We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam)." (Surah Al-Imran, 84)
(They have incurred divine displeasure): In that they broke their covenant; that they rejected the signs of Allah.that they slew the Messengers in defiance of right; that they said, "Our hearts are the wrappings (which preserve Allah.s Word; We need no more)";- Nay, Allah hath set the seal on their hearts for their blasphemy, and little is it they believe;- (Surah An-Nisa, 155)
That they rejected Faith; that they uttered against Mary a grave false charge; (Surah An-Nisa, 156)
That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.;- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:- (Surah An-Nisa, 157)
Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise;- (Surah An-Nisa, 158)
And there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in him before his death; and on the Day of Judgment he will be a witness against them;- (Surah An-Nisa, 159)
We have sent thee inspiration, as We sent it to Noah and the Messengers after him: we sent inspiration to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and solomon, and to David We gave the Psalms. (Surah An-Nisa, 163)
O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth.Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) an apostle of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His apostles.Say not "Trinity" : desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah.Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son.To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth.And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs. (Surah An-Nisa, 171)
Christ disdaineth nor to serve and worship Allah, nor do the angels, those nearest (to Allah.: those who disdain His worship and are arrogant,-He will gather them all together unto Himself to (answer). (Surah An-Nisa, 172)
In blasphemy indeed are those that say that Allah is Christ the son of Mary.Say: "Who then hath the least power against Allah, if His will were to destroy Christ the son of Mary, his mother, and all every - one that is on the earth? For to Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between.He createth what He pleaseth.For Allah hath power over all things." (Surah Al-Maida, 17)
And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah. (Surah Al-Maida, 46)
They do blaspheme who say: "(Allah) is Christ the son of Mary." But said Christ: "O Children of Israel! worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Whoever joins other gods with Allah,- Allah will forbid him the garden, and the Fire will be his abode.There will for the wrong-doers be no one to help. (Surah Al-Maida, 72)
They do blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One Allah.If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them. (Surah Al-Maida, 73)
Why turn they not to Allah, and seek His forgiveness? For Allah is Oft- forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surah Al-Maida, 74)
Christ the son of Mary was no more than an apostle; many were the apostles that passed away before him.His mother was a woman of truth.They had both to eat their (daily) food.See how Allah doth make His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth! (Surah Al-Maida, 75)
Curses were pronounced on those among the Children of Israel who rejected Faith, by the tongue of David and of Jesus the son of Mary: because they disobeyed and persisted in excesses. (Surah Al-Maida, 78)
Then will Allah say: "O Jesus the son of Mary! Recount My favour to thee and to thy mother.Behold! I strengthened thee with the holy spirit, so that thou didst speak to the people in childhood and in maturity.Behold! I taught thee the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel and behold! thou makest out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My leave, and thou breathest into it and it becometh a bird by My leave, and thou healest those born blind, and the lepers, by My leave.And behold! thou bringest forth the dead by My leave.And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from (violence to) thee when thou didst show them the clear Signs, and the unbelievers among them said: 'This is nothing but evident magic.' (Surah Al-Maida, 110)
Behold! the disciples, said: "O Jesus the son of Mary! can thy Lord send down to us a table set (with viands) from heaven?" Said Jesus: "Fear Allah, if ye have faith." (Surah Al-Maida, 111)
"And behold! I inspired the disciples to have faith in Me and Mine Messenger.they said, 'We have faith, and do thou bear witness that we bow to Allah as Muslims'". (Surah Al-Maida, 112)
They said: "We only wish to eat thereof and satisfy our hearts, and to know that thou hast indeed told us the truth; and that we ourselves may be witnesses to the miracle." (Surah Al-Maida, 113)
Said Jesus the son of Mary: "O Allah our Lord! Send us from heaven a table set (with viands), that there may be for us - for the first and the last of us - a solemn festival and a sign from thee; and provide for our sustenance, for thou art the best Sustainer (of our needs)." (Surah Al-Maida, 114)
Allah said: "I will send it down unto you: But if any of you after that resisteth faith, I will punish him with a penalty such as I have not inflicted on any one among all the peoples." (Surah Al-Maida, 115)
And behold! Allah will say: "O Jesus the son of Mary! Didst thou say unto men, worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of Allah.?" He will say: "Glory to Thee! never could I say what I had no right (to say).Had I said such a thing, thou wouldst indeed have known it.Thou knowest what is in my heart, Thou I know not what is in Thine (Surah Al-Maida, 116)
"Never said I to them aught except what Thou didst command me to say, to wit, 'worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord'; and I was a witness over them whilst I dwelt amongst them; when Thou didst take me up Thou wast the Watcher over them, and Thou art a witness to all things. (Surah Al-Maida, 117)
"If Thou dost punish them, they are Thy servant: If Thou dost forgive them, Thou art the Exalted in power, the Wise." (Surah Al-Maida, 118)
And Zakariya and John, and Jesus and Elias: all in the ranks of the righteous: (Surah Al-Anam, 85)
The Jews call 'Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah.That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say.Allah.s curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth! (Surah At-Tawba, 30)
They take their priests and their anchorites to be their lords in derogation of Allah, and (they take as their Lord) Christ the son of Mary; yet they were commanded to worship but One Allah.there is no god but He.Praise and glory to Him: (Far is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him). (Surah At-Tawba, 31)
Relate in the Book (the story of) Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place in the East. (Surah Maryam, 16)
She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent her our angel, and he appeared before her as a man in all respects. (Surah Maryam, 17)
She said: "I seek refuge from thee to ((Allah)) Most Gracious: (come not near) if thou dost fear Allah." (Surah Maryam, 18)
He said: "Nay, I am only a messenger from thy Lord, (to announce) to thee the gift of a holy son. (Surah Maryam, 19)
She said: "How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?" (Surah Maryam, 20)
He said: "So (it will be): Thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us':It is a matter (so) decreed." (Surah Maryam, 21)
So she conceived him, and she retired with him to a remote place. (Surah Maryam, 22)
And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm-tree: She cried (in her anguish): "Ah! would that I had died before this! would that I had been a thing forgotten and out of sight!" (Surah Maryam, 23)
But (a voice) cried to her from beneath the (palm-tree): "Grieve not! for thy Lord hath provided a rivulet beneath thee; (Surah Maryam, 24)
"And shake towards thyself the trunk of the palm-tree: It will let fall fresh ripe dates upon thee. (Surah Maryam, 25)
"So eat and drink and cool (thine) eye.And if thou dost see any man, say, 'I have vowed a fast to ((Allah)) Most Gracious, and this day will I enter into not talk with any human being'" (Surah Maryam, 26)
At length she brought the (babe) to her people, carrying him (in her arms).They said: "O Mary! truly an amazing thing hast thou brought! (Surah Maryam, 27)
"O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a man of evil, nor thy mother a woman unchaste!" (Surah Maryam, 28)
But she pointed to the babe.They said: "How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?" (Surah Maryam, 29)
He said: "I am indeed a servant of Allah.He hath given me revelation and made me a prophet; (Surah Maryam, 30)
"And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me Prayer and Charity as long as I live; (Surah Maryam, 31)
"(He) hath made me kind to my mother, and not overbearing or miserable; (Surah Maryam, 32)
"So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again)"! (Surah Maryam, 33)
Such (was) Jesus the son of Mary: (it is) a statement of truth, about which they (vainly) dispute. (Surah Maryam, 34)
It is not befitting to (the majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son.Glory be to Him! when He determines a matter, He only says to it, "Be", and it is. (Surah Maryam, 35)
And We made the son of Mary and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs. (Surah Al-Muminun, 50)
And remember We took from the prophets their covenant: As (We did) from thee: from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary: We took from them a solemn covenant: (Surah Al-Ahzab, 7)
The same religion has He established for you as that which He enjoined on Noah - the which We have sent by inspiration to thee - and that which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: Namely, that ye should remain steadfast in religion, and make no divisions therein: to those who worship other things than Allah, hard is the (way) to which thou callest them. Allah chooses to Himself those whom He pleases, and guides to Himself those who turn (to Him). (Surah Ash-Shura, 13)
When (Jesus) the son of Mary is held up as an example, behold, thy people raise a clamour thereat (in ridicule)! (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 57)
And they say, "Are our gods best, or he?" This they set forth to thee, only by way of disputation: yea, they are a contentious people. (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 58)
He was no more than a servant: We granted Our favour to him, and We made him an example to the Children of Israel. (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 59)
And if it were Our Will, We could make angels from amongst you, succeeding each other on the earth. (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 60)
And (Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way. (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 61)
Let not the Evil One hinder you: for he is to you an enemy avowed. (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 62)
When Jesus came with Clear Signs, he said: "Now have I come to you with Wisdom, and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) on which ye dispute: therefore fear Allah and obey me. (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 63)
"For Allah, He is my Lord and your Lord: so worship ye Him: this is a Straight Way." (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 64)
But sects from among themselves fell into disagreement: then woe to the wrong-doers, from the Penalty of a Grievous Day! (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 65)
Then, in their wake, We followed them up with (others of) Our apostles: We sent after them Jesus the son of Mary, and bestowed on him the Gospel; and We ordained in the hearts of those who followed him Compassion and Mercy. But the Monasticism which they invented for themselves, We did not prescribe for them: (We commanded) only the seeking for the Good Pleasure of Allah. but that they did not foster as they should have done. Yet We bestowed, on those among them who believed, their (due) reward, but many of them are rebellious transgressors. (Surah Al-Hadid, 27)
And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary, said: "O Children of Israel! I am the apostle of Allah (sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me, and giving Glad Tidings of an Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad." But when he came to them with Clear Signs, they said, "this is evident sorcery!" (Surah As-Saff, 6)
O ye who believe! Be ye helpers of Allah. As said Jesus the son of Mary to the Disciples, "Who will be my helpers to (the work of) Allah." Said the disciples, "We are Allah.s helpers!" then a portion of the Children of Israel believed, and a portion disbelieved: But We gave power to those who believed, against their enemies, and they became the ones that prevailed. (Surah As-Saff, 14)

(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast) Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful) قُلْ مَنۢ بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّشَ��ْءٍ وَهُوَ يُجِيرُ وَلَا يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ 88 سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ قُلْ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسْحَرُونَ 89 بَلْ أَتَيْنَٰهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ 90 88. Say: In Whose hand is the dominion over all things and He protecteth, while against Him there is no protection, if ye have knowledge? 89. They will say: Unto Allah (all that belongeth). Say: How then are ye bewitched? 90. Nay, but We have brought them the Truth, and lo! They are liars. 88. Commentary It is commanded: Then ask from them also that in Whose hand is the dominion over all things and by Whose order everything has been running according to own manner. He (Allaah Almighty) can protect the person to whom He desire. None can oppress that person to whom He gives shelter. None can save the individual to whom He determine as a wrongdoer. Explain if you know this matter! In its reply they will also not be able to say except it that the commandment of only Allaah Almighty is in order upon everything. Nothing can fall back a little from that path which Allaah Almighty has fixed for any particular thing. While there is no answer of this question save it then you should say to them: How have you been dull of understanding that after knowing so much you have been talking stupidly that “there can be no life after death, and reckoning of accounts of personal deeds on the Day of Resurrection is entirely self-fabricated”? While everything is under the command of Allaah Almighty and all things are obedient of Him, then how, giving life again after death; punishing and giving reward on wicked and good deeds, has gone out of His Power? You should repent! These entire are useless matters. The actual thing is that which Message We have sent unto them by means of Our Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), that is hundred per cent correct. And whatsoever they have been saying, that is against the situation. And that is entirely a lie which ever they have been saying. What is the importance the religion of Islam gives to solidarity/helping others?
The religion of Islam is a religion of solidarity. No religion and ideology before and after Islam gave as much importance to solidarity and helping as Islam did and practiced this understanding of solidarity and helping like Islam.
Allah states the following in the Quran:
"Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of thy Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in the life of this world: and We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others. But the Mercy of thy Lord is better than the (wealth) which they amass." (az-Zukhruf, 43/32)
We see this fact, which we learn from the Quran, in our daily life too. In no community today are people who share a common life and future in the same level; nor were they in history. The weak and the strong, the rich and the poor, men and women, etc. form a contrast and a harmony in the human communities. This diversity/contrast in nature forms the source of a movement, which we call "life". Due to this natural diversity, people in social life need one another. A rich person feels the need to apply to a poor person and a strong person to a weak person regarding several issues. No rich person can say, "I do not need anybody." For, he earns money through the power of the people he employs. He can say, "I have money, I can employ anybody I wish" but he cannot change this fact. No matter whom he employs, it means he will need them. We will see the same thing in all social relationships no matter what we look at.
We see that everybody needs others’ power, money and ideas. Therefore, they say, "A woman needs a man, a young man needs an old man, a bow needs an arrow / To sum up, people need one another."
That people need one another shows the necessity of helping one another. Helping one another is a natural result of living in a community. It is impossible to live with others without needing others’ help. Therefore, Islam deals with solidarity in the widest range that will encompass all aspects of our material and spiritual life and introduces it as a religious-ethical duty. This issue is mentioned in many verses of the Quran and Muslims are encouraged to help one another. The Prophet (pbuh) expressed the importance of material and spiritual helping in human life in many hadiths.
Allah Almighty states the following in the Quran:
"…Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye not one another in sin and rancor..." (al-Maida, 5/2)
If we consider that everything from charity to soft words and treating people kindly are included in the scope of righteousness and piety, we will understand better how wide our religion regards the scope of solidarity.
Self-sacrifice exists in the essence of the understanding of helping one another. This deed of giving is sometimes obligatory like in zakah and fitrah but it is generally voluntary. Zakah is given based on a certain rate but there is no limit in sadaqah. A person can give sadaqah as much as he wishes. Thus, Muslims help one another in great amounts. Along with material helping, Muslims are to do favors and love one another. It is their duty.
It is regarded as sadaqah for a Muslim who does not do any charity not to harm others with his hand and tongue.
Spreading the understanding of helping, which will be explained in detail below, will cause important changes in individual and social life; the benefits of helping one another will be felt at once. They can be listed as follows:
1. The poor will be protected through helping. If their material needs are met, they will be prevented from committing bad deeds. For, poverty and famine lead people with weak characteristics to bad deeds like theft and injustice.
2. Amity and love will occur between those who help and who are helped. The people who are helped in the community will get rid of bad feelings like hatred, envy and enmity; they will not have their eyes on the wealth of the rich. For, the poor know that they give the poor their rights and help the people around them by obeying the order of the religion.
3. The Prophet (pbuh) said, "The hand that gives is superior to the hand that takes." Thus, he told Muslims that it is better to be a person that helps than to be a person that is helped. Those who are helped by their Muslim brothers when they are in trouble and undergo hardship will try to work and to be the people that give instead of the people that take. Thus, a race for virtue will start in the community.
4. Zakah, sadaqah and the other financial supports will become the most important factor that will make Muslims strong and in unity. It is difficult to think of a hungry person being in the same row as a rich person with the feelings of love and fraternity. Helping will close the gap between the rich and the poor along with establishing a bond of love and respect.
5. The feeling of friendship will be strong in a community where helping one another is widespread; wealth and welfare will increase; beggary, which is not regarded as nice by our religion, will disappear; haram deeds like theft and fraud will be minimized.
Types of helping
Allah Almighty states the following in the Quran:
"Knowest thou not that to Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth? And besides Him ye have neither patron nor helper." (al-Baqara, 2/107);
"To Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth; and Allah hath power over all things." (Aal-i Imran, 3/189);
"…To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth..." (al-Baqara, 2/116, 255).
As it is understood from the verses above and similar ones, the real owner of everything we see is Allah. However, Allah Almighty states in other verses that all of the beings in the world and the sky were allocated to serve human beings as a grace and grant of Him:
"And He has subjected to you, as from Him, all that is in the heavens and on earth: Behold, in that are Signs indeed for those who reflect." (al-Jasiya, 45/13)
Allah, who is the real owner of the beings, explains as follows that He will give them to His slaves whom He wishes:
"Say: "O Allah! Lord of Power (And Rule), Thou givest power to whom Thou pleasest, and Thou strippest off power from whom Thou pleasest: Thou enduest with honour whom Thou pleasest, and Thou bringest low whom Thou pleasest: In Thy hand is all good. Verily, over all things Thou hast power." (Aal-i Imran, 3/26)
In addition, Allah did not leave human beings, whom He gave wealth and property, unattended and laid some responsibilities on them related to the wealth and property he granted them, and gave them some duties.
"And in their wealth and possessions (was remembered) the right of the (needy,) him who asked, and him who (for some reason) was prevented (from asking)." (adh-Dhariyat, 51/19);
"Who believe in the Unseen, are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them; And who believe in the Revelation sent to thee, and sent before thy time, and (in their hearts) have the assurance of the Hereafter. They are on (true) guidance, from their Lord, and it is these who will prosper." (al-Baqara, 2/3-5).
We understand from the verses above that those responsibilities and duties are giving some of the wealth and property entrusted to them to other people. In about two hundred verses of the Quran, how, to whom and in what amounts to give it are explained.
As it can be noticed, Allah Almighty orders “infaq (giving away)” just after belief and prayer in the verse above. "Infaq" means to spend/give away the wealth that Allah has given to others in a legitimate way. Infaq has parts like fard, wajib and mandub. Infaq that is fard is zakah and infaq that is wajib is fitrah; detailed information is given about them above.
The order "And be steadfast in prayer..." (al-Baqara, 2/43, 83,110; an-Nisa, 4/77) exists in many places in the Quran. The most important deed of worship in Islam is prayer (salah). That Muslims are ordered to give zakah immediately after prayer shows the great place of zakah as a deed of worship in our religion. After the foundation of the religion is laid with belief and the pillar is erected with prayer, there is an important mountain pass to pass through.
The Prophet (pbuh) states the following:
"Three things go to the grave after the dead person: His family, wealth and deeds. Two of them return and one of them remains with him. Those that return are his family and wealth; the one that stays with him is his deeds." (Riyadus-Salihin, I, 139)
It is an important duty to use and spend the wealth, which will remain in the world, based on Allah’s order. For, this spending will enable us to establish a strong bridge that will reach the pass in the hereafter.
Allah Almighty states the following in the Quran: "…Then strive together (as in a race) towards all that is good…" (al-Baqara, 2/148). Good deeds and charities are done with wealth, hand and tongue. All of those deeds that are done are called "sadaqah"; the Prophet (pbuh) said, "Every good deed is sadaqah." (Riyadus-Salihin, I, 167)
The main good deed and help to be done with wealth is zakah.
"And be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity: And whatever good ye send forth for your souls before you, ye shall find it with Allah: for Allah sees Well all that ye do." (al-Baqara, 2/110)
Zakah is an obligatory kind of helping through one’s wealth. However, helping through one’s wealth is not limited to zakah. Muslims are ordered and advised to give what they have more than their needs to others. The following verses and hadiths tell us to help others by giving sadaqah along with zakah and inform us about its importance:
Allah states the following in the Quran:
"It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah-fearing." (al-Baqara, 2/177);
"They ask thee what they should spend (In charity). Say: Whatever ye spend that is good, is for parents and kindred and orphans and those in want and for wayfarers. And whatever ye do that is good, -Allah knoweth it well." (al-Baqara, 2/215).
The Prophet (pbuh) states the following:
"Protect yourselves from fire even with half a date and if you cannot find it, with nice words." (Muslim, Zakah, 95);
"What is eaten, stolen and taken from a tree that a Muslim has planted is sadaqah for him." (Riyadus-Salihin, I, 168).
If we accept the individual as the center of social activities, we will see that some concentric circles surround him. The closest circle to him is formed by his children and parents. It is followed by close relatives, neighbors and then the other individuals of the community he lives in. We understand from hadiths that man needs to help others based on this order.
Somebody who wanted to do charity from Sons of Uzra went to the Prophet (pbuh. He had only one slave. The Prophet sold his slave and gave the money to him. Then, he said to the man,
"Spend this money on your needs first. If some money remains, spend it on your family. If some money remains again, spend it on your relatives. If some money remains again, give sadaqah to those people - he showed the poor people around." (Muslim, Zakah, 41)
When Abu Talha wanted to give his orchard away as sadaqah, the Prophet (pbuh) advised him to give it to his relatives. Thereupon, Abu Talha divided the orchard among his relatives and cousins. (Muslim, Zakah, 42, 43).
The following is stated in another hadith:
"The hand that gives is high. Start giving away to the people whom you look after. Take care of your mother, father, sister, brother and then your close relatives and relatives." (Nasai, Zakah, 51)
In that case, if a Muslim wants to help others financially, he needs to start from his close relatives first and expand the circle gradually. The most important thing that he needs to consider is whether the people he will help are really poor or not.
The Prophet (pbuh) said,
"Real wealth is not abundance of property and goods. The real wealth is the richness of the heart."
However, man wants richness of goods instead of richness of the heart, which will never end; he becomes greedy and the more he earns, the more he wants. The Prophet (pbuh) explains this mood of people as follows:
"If the son of Adam were to possess two valleys of riches, he would long for the third one. And the stomach of the son of Adam is not filled but with dust. And Allah returns to him who repents." (Muslim, Zakah, 116)
He states the following in another hadith:
"The heart of an old person feels young for the love of two things: love for long life and wealth." (Muslim, Zakah, III)
Thus, he informs us that love for wealth will continue throughout life.
Allah Almighty states the following in the Quran:
"The Evil one threatens you with poverty and bids you to conduct unseemly. Allah promiseth you His forgiveness and bounties. And Allah careth for all and He knoweth all things." (al-Baqara, 2/268)
"And let not those who covetously withhold of the gifts which Allah Hath given them of His Grace, think that it is good for them: Nay, it will be the worse for them: soon shall the things which they covetously withheld be tied to their necks Like a twisted collar, on the Day of Judgment. To Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do." (Aal-i Imran, 3/180)
It is definitely a very noble act for a Muslim to overcome the greed for wealth mentioned in hadiths, the tricks of Satan and the feeling of stinginess mentioned in verses and to spend his wealth given to him by Allah as a grant, grace and boon in the way of goodness, and in the way that Allah and His Messenger order. Thus, he appreciates the boons, thanks Allah and attains His consent. However, we see that Allah Almighty seeks some qualities in real charity. Allah states the following in verse 92 of the chapter of Aal-i Imran:
"By no means shall ye attain righteousness unless ye give (freely) of that which ye love; and whatever ye give, of a truth Allah knoweth it well." (Aal-i Imran, 3/92)
In that case, we need to make a preference between love of wealth and gaining Allah’s consent. We are undergoing a test. We will pass the test if we give away some of the goods that we like to the poor for the sake of Allah. The behaviors of the close friends of the Prophet (pbuh) should be models for us.
Anas b. Malik narrates:
"Abu Talha, of Ansar, was among the rich people of Madinah. He liked the date orchard called “Bayraha” the most. It was near Masjid an-Nabawi. The Prophet often visited it, and drank its famous water. When the verse “By no means shall ye attain righteousness unless ye give (freely) of that which ye love…” was sent down, Abu Talha went to the Messenger of Allah and said,
“Allah states the following in His book: ‘By no means shall ye attain righteousness unless ye give (freely) of that which ye love.’ The most beloved of my property is Bayraha date orchard. I give it away now for Allah. I expect the reward of this charity and that it will be unending sustenance in the hereafter. O Messenger of Allah! Give it to the people that Allah orders.” (Muslim, Zakah, 42)
A kind of help done with wealth is "qard hasan". "Qard" means to lend money to a person without expecting any usury, interest, etc. It is a kind of financial help that Allah praises. This self-sacrifice is praised so much in the Quran that a person who lends money without interest is regarded to have lent money to Allah:
"For those who give in Charity, men and women, and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan, it shall be increased manifold (to their credit), and they shall have (besides) a liberal reward." (al-Hadid, 57/18)
In the verse above, those who lend money for Allah’s sake are praised like that. Thus, Allah promises spiritual rewards of manifold in the hereafter to the people who lend money to those who are in financial difficulty without expecting any returns and in accordance with the understanding of helping and doing favors of our religion.
Fountains, bridges, mosques, schools, roads, hospitals, dispensaries and similar things are among the charitable deeds that can be done with wealth. Those charitable works are called sadaqah jariyah (ongoing charity); it makes man gain a lot of thawabs. The understanding of sadaqah jariyah caused foundations that served people to be established all over the Islamic world.
One of the most important ways of financial helping in terms of social and economic life is the rich people’s transferring their wealth to investment and provide employment for those who want to work. That is the best way of helping a person who wants to earn his living by working legitimately. Thus, a rich person will enable such a Muslim to earn his living and help to protect his honor and personality.
Spiritual help: Allah Almighty states the following in the Quran:
"Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong: They are the ones to attain felicity… Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah..." (Aal-i Imran, 3/104, 110);
"…Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye not one another in sin and rancor: fear Allah: for Allah is strict in punishment." (al-Maida, 5/2);
"The Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe regular prayers, practice regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger..." (at-Tawba, 9/71);
"If any one does a righteous deed, it ensures to the benefit of his own soul..." (al-Jathiya, 45/15).
According to what is narrated from Abu Musa, the Prophet (pbuh) said,
"Giving of sadaqah is essential for every Muslim." They said,
"O Messenger of Allah! What do you say of him who does not find the means to do so?" He said,
"Let him work with both his hands, thus doing benefit to himself and give sadaqah." They asked,
"What do you say of him who does not find the means to do so?" He said,
"Then let him assist a needy person who is in difficulty." They said,
"What do you say of one who cannot even do this?" He said,
"Then he should enjoin what is reputable or what is good." They said,
"What about him if he cannot do that?" He said,
"He should then abstain from evil, which is sadaqah for him." (Muslim, Zakah, 55)
The prophet (PBUH) also said the following:
"All of the good and bad deeds of my ummah were shown to me. Removing something that disturbed people from the road was among the good deeds. Dirtying the mosque and leaving it like that was among the bad deeds." (Riyadus-Salihin, I, 157)
"Do not underestimate any good deed even if it is welcoming your believing brother with a smile." (Riyadus-Salihin, I, 159);
"The smallest good deed is the help that starts with removing something that disturb people or animals from the road." (Kashful-Khafa, I, 198)
We are ordered to do favors to people in many other verses and hadiths and we are shown the ways of helping.
It is a good deed for a person to fulfill his duties toward himself and the members of his family. It is also a good deed for him not to offend his neighbor and help him related to everything. It is a material good deed to feed and clothe an orphan and give him a place to live; it is also a good deed to treat him kindly, to win his heart with soft words and by caressing his head with love.
It is a good deed to comfort a sad and aggrieved person, to teach others what one knows, to show the true path to the people around him, to visit sick, old and homeless people. It is also a good deed to help people around in all matters, give one’s seat to a sick, old or disabled person in the means of public transportation, to help a person cross the road by holding his hands and to show a traveler, a stranger the place he is looking for.
It is a good deed to remove something that disturbs and disgusts people from the street, market, etc. like stone, mud, filth and thorns. It is also a good deed to give water to a thirsty person or animal.
In short, it is good deed to do something that Allah and His Messenger (pbuh) want us to do and something that intellect and conscience regard nice. It is also good to avoid evil deeds and try not to do bad things to others. All of those good deeds are sadaqah.
It is the duty of every Muslim to do good deeds that are too many to count as if racing. There is definitely a good deed that anyone can do. In fact, Muslims should not only do these good deeds but also help others do them and encourage them for good deeds and help. For, Allah orders us to help one another to do good deeds and to avoid bad deeds. Allah will certainly give the reward of anyone who does good deeds for Allah and who helps others materially and spiritually for His sake.
It is the duty of a Muslim to help one another in good deeds and also to try to prevent people from doing bad deeds. As it is quoted above, Allah orders us: "Help ye not one another in sin and rancor." "Enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil" is mentioned as a characteristic of virtuous people. All prophets fulfilled this order and tried to prevent the people to whom they were sent from bad deeds. Allah Almighty states the following about Sons of Israel, who did not obey the advice of their prophets and who were rebellious:
"Nor did they (usually) forbid one another the iniquities which they committed: evil indeed were the deeds which they did." (al-Maida, 5/79)
The Prophet states the following in a hadith: "When you see a bad deed, correct it with your hand; if it is not possible, correct it with your tongue; if it is not possible, disapprove it with your heart. That is the weakest belief." (Muslim, Iman, 78)
In that case, both enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil will be through words and deeds. A believer should try to prevent the bad deeds that he sees with his hands whether they are big or small. It is the ethical duty of those who cannot do it to try to prevent the bad deeds from being committed by giving advice to the people and telling them about the badness of what they do. If they fulfill this duty, the bad deeds will decrease, good deeds will spread and peace will be prevalent in the community. Doing the opposite will cause the bad deeds to spread like an epidemic and cause the community to corrupt. Therefore, our religion regards enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil among the important duties of Muslims.
The issues that need to be considered while helping others:
If helping is in question, there is one that helps and one that is helped, that is, one that gives and one that takes. To sum up, help usually occurs between two people. It is necessary to be careful about some issues for the help to be fulfilled properly. It should not be forgotten that the financial help that is given to people without searching usually leads to unwanted results. Therefore, it is necessary to take the following issues into consideration while helping:
1. Help (charity) is given for Allah’s sake. If help is given without considering Allah’s sake, show off, hypocrisy and interest are present in it. Allah Almighty advises us to seek Allah’s sake in charities as follows:
"…Whatever of good ye give benefits your own souls, and ye shall only do so seeking the "Face" of Allah. Whatever good ye give, shall be rendered back to you, and ye shall not be dealt with unjustly." (al-Baqara, 2/272).
2. When help (charity) is given, it is necessary to look for really poor people. Allah states the following regarding the issue:
"(Charity is) for those in need, who, in Allah´s cause are restricted (from travel), and cannot move about in the land, seeking (For trade or work): the ignorant man thinks, because of their modesty, that they are free from want. Thou shalt know them by their (Unfailing) mark: They beg not importunately from all the sundry. And whatever of good ye give, be assured Allah knoweth it well." (al-Baqara, 2/273).
Virtuous and modest people do not say that they are poor and they do not easily ask money from others. The rich people that help others should seek and find such people and should help them without harming their honor. There are many people who beg though they are not needy. It is necessary to keep away from those people whom the Prophet (pbuh) criticizes and not to regard them as poor people.
3. We should not give worthless things as charity to others. It does not fit generosity to give away things that are mean and worthless. The following order of Allah Almighty should not be forgotten:
"O ye who believe! Give of the good things which ye have (honorably) earned, and of the fruits of the earth which We have produced for you, and do not even aim at getting anything which is bad, in order that out of it ye may give away something, when ye yourselves would not receive it except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of all wants, and worthy of all praise." (al-Baqara, 2/267)
4. The help (charity) given to a person should not be reminded to him later to disturb him. The help that is reminded to the person later will bring no thawabs. It is necessary not to do bad deeds instead of good deeds. There is no doubt that the distress caused by rubbing the charity in will be more than that joy caused by the charity. Allah describes the charity that is reminded later as the work of those who are not believers:
"O ye who believe! cancel not your charity by reminders of your generosity or by injury,- like those who spend their substance to be seen of men, but believe neither in Allah nor in the Last Day. They are in parable like a hard, barren rock, on which is a little soil: on it falls heavy rain, which leaves it (Just) a bare stone. They will be able to do nothing with aught they have earned. And Allah guideth not those who reject faith." (al-Baqara, 2/264)
5. It is necessary to know about the mood of a poor person and treat him well. The person who helps another person financially should be clever. There are so many poor people who do not ask anything openly because they feel shy; they prefer to express their state indirectly. In fact, a needy person can be understood from his state. The people who help should be careful about it and should help them without despising them. It is necessary to treat the people who hopefully come to ask for help. They will be pleased if they are treated kindly even if they are not helped. Therefore, they say, "Welcome the needy people with smile; they will thank you if you give them something; they will understand you if you do not give them anything."
6. The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Do not underestimate any good deed even if it is welcoming your believing brother with a smile." (Riyadus-Salihin, I, 159) Then, no charity should be underestimated.
7. It is necessary for the person to do good deeds and charity to do it on time and not to miss the opportunity. The charity done late cannot meet the need.
8. It is necessary to help people secretly as much as possible. It is essential to help openly in fard worshipping like zakah but giving sadaqah secretly will save man from hypocrisy. Allah Almighty states the following in the Quran:
"If ye disclose (acts of) charity, even so it is well, but if ye conceal them, and make them reach those (really) in need, that is best for you: It will remove from you some of your (stains of) evil..." (al-Baqara, 2/271)
The Prophet (pbuh) stated that those who gave sadaqah secretly so that the left hand would not hear what the right gave would be given shade under the shade of the Throne in the hereafter (Tajrid, II, 620). Hz. Abbas stated the following:
"A good deed is completed with three things: to hurry, to regard it something small and to keep it a secret. When you hurry, you will make the person happy; when you regard it something small, you will make it bigger; when you keep it a secret, you will be completed."
There are also some issues that those who expect help from others should be careful about. If they are not careful about them, those who help will be demotivated and abandon doing charity.
1. They should not ask more than they need.
2. They should accept the help without complaining and underestimating it.
3. They should ask help/money from generous people. To expect help from a person who does not like doing good deeds will lead the person who expects help to frustration. To ask help/money from a person who is not rich will put him into a difficult position. Hz. Ali said, "A person who does not understand that something is “unavailable” until he is told that it is unavailable is stupid."
4. It is necessary to respond to a person who helps with gratitude and prayer, not with ingratitude. The Prophet (pbuh) said,
"He who does not know how to thank people does not know how to thank Allah either and deserves the boon to cease." (Ahmad b. Hanbal, Musnad IV, 278)
In that case, it is an ethical duty not to be ungrateful and to thank for good deeds and help. This duty should be completed with a prayer.
The charities done with this understanding will make Muslims attain Allah Almighty’s consent.

Was our Prophet illiterate? What does illiterate prophet mean? If he could not read and write, how did he read?
In Arabic, illiterate (ummi) defines a person who is in the state as if he has just been born, who has not acquired any knowledge and who cannot read and write. It is the adjective form of umm (mother). In Arabic, umm (mother) also means the original form of something. (Firuzabadi, al-Qamusu'l-Muhit, Beirut 1987, 1891).
Apart from its lexical meanings, umm also has some metaphorical meanings. In the Quran, umm is used as the origin, that is, the place to be returned to, and a woman who suckles (Abdurrahman Ibnu'l-Jawzi, Nuzhatu'l A'yuni'n-Nawazır fi Ilmi'l-Wujuh wa'n-Nazair Beirut,1985,141-142).
The word ummi is used for people who cannot read and write in the Quran. That is its original meaning. In the following verse, that meaning is clear: “And there are among them illiterates, who know not the Book, but (see therein their own) desires, and they do nothing but conjecture”(al-Baqara, 2/78).
In the following verses, the word ummi is used for our Prophet.
“"Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (Scriptures);― in the Law and the Gospel;― for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil … Say: "O men! I am sent unto you all, as the Messenger of Allah, to Whom belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth: there is no god but He: it is He that giveth both life and death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, who believed in Allah and His words: follow him that (so) ye may be guided."”(al-Araf, 2/157-158).
In the following verse, it is emphasized that Hazrat Prophet could not read and write and it is pointed out that the attribute ummi used for him has the same meaning: “And thou wast not (able) to recite a Book before this (Book came) nor art thou (able) to transcribe it with thy right hand: in that case, indeed, would the talkers of vanities have doubted.”(al-Ankabut, 29/48).
Our Prophet had two kinds of miracles. One of them is the ones seen on him and the other is the ones he showed on the universe. Some examples to the second kind are his dividing the moon into two, water flowing out of his fingers like a tap and making a lot of people full out of very little food. The brightest one of the first kind of miracles is his illiteracy, not being able to read and write. (at-Tafsiru’l-Kabir, 15:29.)
Our Prophet did not take lessons from any scholars; he did not read any books; he did not learn anything from a circle of knowledge; he did not write even one word. Although the Prophet was illiterate, he had knowledge about all kinds of sciences; there was nothing that he did not know. It was his Lord who taught him everything. Nobody claimed something like, “I taught him such an issue” after he started to tell people about Islam.
In tafsir (interpretation) books, the word umm is used in three senses:
1. “Umm” is a word that means mother. “Ummi” (illiterate) is a word derived from the word “umm”. Thus, ummi means a person who is in the state as if he has just been born, who cannot read and write and whose nature does not change when he learns something new.
2. The Arab nation was also defined as “ummi”. Arabs have been known as a nation that cannot read, write and calculate for a long time. The Prophet expresses this state as follows in a hadith: “We are a nation that does not calculate by looking at the movements of the stars and that does not write.” (Muslim, Siyam: 15.)
3. “Ummi” also means Ummu’l-Qura (Mother of the Cities), that is, a person from makkah. When all of the three senses are considered, it is understood that the Prophet was not involved in reading and writing. Besides, it is stated in the Quran that our Prophet was illiterate. Moreover, the phrase “illiterate prophet” is used in three verses. (al-Araf, 157, 8; al-Jumu’a, 2.)
Our Prophet could not read a book or writing but he could read the Quran by heart in a very nice way. Jibril (Gabriel) taught him to read the Quran. The following is stated regarding the issue in the Quran: “By degrees shall We teach thee to declare (the Message), so thou shalt not forget” (al-Ala, 6).
Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır makes the following explanation regarding the issue: "In all of those three senses, ummi is a person that has not tried to learn to read and write. When the word ummi is used for an ordinary person, it expresses a negative meaning; however, if an ummi person has more knowledge than literate people, if he is equipped with divine knowledge by Allah without trying to learn something, it expresses the loftiness of the nature of the Prophet. Loftiness and perfection in science, illiteracy of a prophet that surpasses literate people is an extraordinary quality leaving no doubt that he was sent by Allah; that is, it is a miracle on its own. Therefore, that he is mentioned as an illiterate prophet is more eloquent than being mentioned as a prophet whose prophethood is obvious and who has miracles."
It is accepted by all scholars that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) could not read and write. As a matter of fact, it is expressed clearly in the following verse: " And thou wast not (able) to recite a Book before this (Book came) nor art thou (able) to transcribe it with thy right hand: in that case, indeed, would the talkers of vanities have doubted. (al-Ankabut, 48).
It is known that Hazrat Prophet (pbuh) belongs to a community, in which illiteracy was common. It is a historical fact that the Prophet himself was illiterate, that is, he could not read and write. However, there are various kinds of information about many branches of science, scientific principles, results, references and signs in the Quran. If we take into consideration only the information regarding the religions of Judaism and Christianity and their holy books, we will see that they form a great amount of knowledge. To deal with those issues, to express one’s view regarding controversial subjects, to make decisions about them are things that even scholars cannot dare to do.
Then, a reference is necessary for the information in the Quran. It is definite that Hazrat Muhammad, who spent forty years of his life before prophethood among his fellow citizens, did not go to school, meet any teachers and could not write. The Quran addressed the people who opposed him with that verse but none of his enemies dared to claim that he could write. Then, it is definite that the Quran was sent down by Allah, who knows everything.
There are many wisdoms behind the fact that our Prophet was illiterate. If the Prophet had been able to read and write, the Qurayshis would have said, “He read the previous books and learned from them; he wrote the Quran based on the knowledge in them. The following verse express the issue as follows: “And thou wast not (able) to recite a Book before this (Book came) nor art thou (able) to transcribe it with thy right hand: in that case, indeed, would the talkers of vanities have doubted.” (al-Ankabut, 48.)
However, our Prophet wrote something, as Mawlana Jami puts it, “the illiterate Prophet, who did not write anything, wrote an ‘alif’ with the pen of the finger on the page of the sky; he turned one ‘forty’ to two ‘fifties’. As it is known, the full moon resembles to the round form of the letter “mim” of Arabic; when the moon was divided into two, it resembled to the letter “nun” without a dot. In abjad system (type of writing system in which each symbol always or usually stands for a consonant), ‘mim’ represents forty and ‘nun’ represents fifty. Mawlana Jami expressed that nice fact like that.

What will be the position of the People of the Book in the hereafter? Will their belief in Allah enable them to go to Paradise?
Hell has several levels. The torture of a munafiq, who is at the lowest level or an atheist, who does not believe in any religion, will not be the same as that of a sinful Muslim, who is at the highest level. Non-Muslims are one level below sinful Muslims. However, sinful Muslims will go to Paradise after their punishment ends. The others will not go to Paradise. However, Allah does not leave any good service or good deed without rewards. He can give this reward even in Hell or relieve the torture there. (Allah knows the best)
As it is known, religions are divided into three in terms of one classification: Heavenly religions; distorted religions and wrong religions.
"The Religion before Allah is Islam (submission to His will)." (Aal-i Imran, 3/19)
According to the clear decree of the verse, wrong religions that are the products of the human mind and the religions of Judaism and Christianity, which lost the characteristics of heavenliness due to distortion of the Torah and the Gospel (the Bible), are not valid in the eye of Allah:
"If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah) never will it be accepted of him." (Aal-i Imran, 3/85)
When religion is in question, first creed then worshipping comes to mind. Accordingly, it means that belief in Allah, the concepts of angels, books and prophets, the understanding of the hereafter and qadar (destiny) do not comply with the truth fully.
The rule "the existence of something requires the existence of all of its parts" is famous. There are certain indispensable requirements, characteristics, conditions for a thing. For instance, when spirit is mentioned, life is its indispensable requirement; you cannot separate life from spirit.
Another important rule of creed is as follows: "Belief cannot be divided." That is, the truths of belief are a whole; if a person does not believe in only one of the truths, he exits the religion. A person who does not believe in even only one of them is not called a believer. For instance, a person who believes in Allah but does not believe in the hereafter is not a believer. It is not possible to make a dual classification for this man like "he is a believer in terms of his belief in Allah" but "he is an unbeliever in terms of his belief in the hereafter". Similarly, belief in Allah cannot be divided. That is, a person who says,"I believe in the existence of Allah but I do not accept that He is pre-eternal” does not believe in Allah but believes in a deity that he forms in his mind.
A believer who believes in Allah needs to believe in His book, the Quran, so that he will know his Lord with a true creed. Human mind can know only himself and that there is a creator who created this realm but he cannot know the Creator's attributes, deeds, names, orders and prohibitions, eternal land and ways to Paradise unless Allah informs him about them. Then, it is not possible to think of belief in Allah and belief in the Quran as separate things. A person who believes in the Quran is to believe in the prophethood of Hz. Muhammad and the angel of revelation, Jibril. This is the first and biggest step of belief in the prophets and angels. A person who believes in the Quran and the Prophet believes in all of the realities informed by the Quran and taught by the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) and fulfills worshipping.
The group of people that can attain salvation by only believing in Allah are the people that lived in the period of interregnum, that were not aware of any religions and prophets, and that were not informed about revelation and worshipping.
According to these two rules, it is necessary to believe in all of the six principles of belief as they are informed by the Quran for a sound belief in Allah. For, it is the last and perfect book that informs people and jinn about Allah; it is also the only heavenly book that did not undergo any distortion and change.
As it is known, the attributes of Allah Almighty are divided into two as Sifat as-Salbiyya (Negative Attributes) and Sifat as-Subutiyya (Positive Attributes).
Sifat as-Salbiyya are the attributes of “Wujud (Existence), Qidam (Pre-eternity), Baqa (Everlastingness), Mukhalafa lil-Hawadith (Non-resemblance to the creatures), Qiyam bi Nafsihi (Self-existence) and Wahdaniyyah (Oneness, having no partners). The deity that ‘is an obligatory being', ‘is pre-eternal and post-eternal’, ‘does not resemble any being, ‘is self-existent and does not need anybody else’ and 'that is one' is only Allah.
Sifat as-Subutiyyaare the attributes of “Hayah (life), Ilm (Knowledge), Irada (Will), Qudrah (Power), Sam' (Hearing), Basar (Seeing), (Speech) andTakwin (Creating) Thedeity that has the attributes of“Hayah (life), Ilm (Knowledge), Irada (Will), Qudrah (Power), Sam' (Hearing), Basar (Seeing), (Speech), Takwin (Creating)” personally is only Allah.
When we say, “La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)”, we express all of those meanings. When we say belief in Allah, belief in all of those attributes is understood. If a person does not believe in only one of them, his belief is not regarded as belief in the sense that the Quran defines.
When we have a look at the verses that include the decree “There is no god but Him”, we see that different messages are given before or after this message.
Let us quote some of them:
“They disbelieve who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One God.” (al-Maida, 5/73)
That is, those who believe in trinity deny the truth and move away from the truth.
“…to Him belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth: there is no god but He: it is He that giveth both life and death.” (al-A’raf, 7/158)
Then, the belief of a person who accepts a being that is not the sovereign of the heavens and the earth, that is bound to die and that needs Allah in the hereafter so as to be resurrected as a deity or who accepts this being as a deity along with Allah is not real belief in Allah
“Allah! There is no god but He: of a surety He will gather you together on the Day of Judgment.” (an-Nisa, 4/87)
A being that cannot gather the people together on the Day of Judgment cannot be a deity.
“He it is Who shapes you in the wombs as He pleases. There is no god but He.” (Aal-i Imran, 3/6)
A being that is shaped by Allah in the womb as He pleases cannot be called a deity.
“There is no god but He. Everything (that exists) will perish except His own Face. To him belongs the Command, and to him will ye (all) be brought back.” (al-Qasas, 28/88)
No being that is bound to perish can be a deity.
“Is there a Creator, other than Allah, to give you Sustenance from heaven or earth? There is no god but He.” (Fatir, 35/3)
Allah, who operates the earth and the sky regularly like a factory and creates our sustenance is one. A being that does not have this power cannot be accepted as a deity.
“Say: "He is my Lord! There is no god but He! On Him is my trust and to Him do I turn!” (Ra’d, 13/30)
The belief of those who think that slaves (human beings) can forgive sins and repent in front of them is not regarded as belief in the sense that the Quran defines. Another verse about oneness is as follows:
“He is the First and the Last, the Evident and the Hidden and He has full knowledge of all things.” (al-Hadid, 57/3)
A being that has a beginning and an end and that is under the control and management of Allah with his inside, outside and everything cannot be called a deity.
There are a lot of lessons for those who believe in trinity to be taken from those verses. First of all, Hz. Isa (Jesus) is a human being who was given the honor of prophethood. His mother was a righteous woman who was given the grace of being the mother of a prophet. It is clear that those who go to extremes to accept them as deities cannot have belief in the sense that the Quran defines.
