I think people forget how much Madison and Rudy went through as just friends.
No matter how much you loved JJ and Kie, their whole storyline was fan service and Mads and Rudy expressed that it wasn't supposed to happen. They created that for us.
The amount of hate Elaine received (no matter if she's at fault ot not), the amount of hate Mads gf has received. The amount of hate Rudy and Mads have received.
It doesn't surprise me he left. It doesn't surprise me one bit.
Yall really need to learn that you can't just demand things into being and then get made when that makes people uncomfortable or when people are unprofessional about how uncomfortable they are. I don't think many of you could sit and have your head, body, or shoulders, leaning against someone who you've openly had problems with either, especially an ex friend or lover.

I'm working on the second part to The First Son and The First Spare, but I needed to take a break from it because I was inspired to write another angst fic. I just wanted to give you guys a very far-in-advance warning bc I have a feeling it's going to be very angsty based on the fact that I already want to cry while I'm planning it out.

good thinking, & i can understand why you'd think that (it was my first thought, too!), but this is where semantics are important. a biohazard is a biological substance that poses a hazard to living beings; battery acid is a hazardous substance, yes, but it's not a biohazard. hazard signs are extremely important and globally codified -- you need to be able to tell at a glance exactly what you're looking at; that's what they're for. the sign used here is from the ISO 7010 standard, an internationally-designed and recognised set intended for general use:
Tumblr media
the ISO 7000 gives us a slightly clearer definition of what classifies as a biohazard, stating the symbol indicates "biological risks" and "a reference to substances that may be hazardous to men, animals, plants, or the environment based on biological activity (for example, holding a virus)."
...but this isn't real life, of course, so there's always a chance for human error. steel wool are a game dev company; the toxic materials they handle are like, bad tweets, not corrosive chemicals and the like. it's completely possible for their designers to have used a biohazard symbol as a generic Bad Substance Warning without realising the connotations it carries, and that's a possibility that you should always keep in mind when it comes to stuff like this. buuuuut... regardless of if they meant it or not, it's certainly there now, and the implications of it are fun to think about! i mean heaven forbid a robot in five nights at freddy's have a human body inside it, can you imagine

fun detail on the glamrock endos, btw :)

Whoa. I used to volunteer at my campus food bank (https://campusfoodbank.com) prior to / during COVID as best we could and moldy food was not the norm at all. We gave out "expired" cans, but did a lot of research on what "best before" vs "use by" dates were to make sure that we weren't just going to be throwing out perfectly good food but also that we wouldn't be poisoning our clients.
(Also some of the shit people donate is WILD. We had a Wall of Shame and it was the stuff of delirium)
The CfB also has transitioned now to a grocery-store model post-COVID, I hear, so people can actually come in and grab what they need (within reason, so other clients can make use of what's donated to the bank, cause it's often pretty tiny).
I wanna say the quality/quantity of food available probs has to do with the people in charge of the individual food bank? I'd hate for folx to write off food banks as a concept. Saying "the food bank" paints with a pretty broad brush and could turn someone off of a really needed and good resource in their community.
-Ariel
People should dunk on food banks more for giving people expired or nearly expired food actually I'm done being nice abt that. You won't let homeless people dumpster dive behind a fucking McDonalds but you'll make someone show their ID so they can get 5 cans of spagettios that went bad in 1947 lmfao hell world

I got a job at a Ukrainian museum.
On the first day someone asks me if I have any Ukrainian heritage. I say I had ancestors from Odesa, but they were Jewish, so they weren’t considered Ukrainian, and they wouldn’t have considered themselves Ukrainian. My job is every day I go through boxes of Ukrainian textiles and I write a physical description, take measurements, take photographs, and upload everything into the database. I look up “Jewish” in the database and there is no result.
Some objects have no context at all, some come with handwritten notes or related documents. I look at thick hand-spun, hand-woven linen heavy with embroidery. Embroidery they say can take a year or more. I think of someone dressed for a wedding in their best clothes they made with their own hands. Some shirts were donated with photographs of the original owners dressed in them, for a dance at the Ukrainian Labour Temple, in 1935. I handle the pieces carefully, looking at how they fit the men in the photos, and how they look almost a hundred years later packed in acid-free tissue. One of the men died a few years later, in the war. He was younger than I am now. The military archive has more photographs of him with his mother, his father, his fiancé. I take care in writing the catalogue entry, breathing in the history, getting tearful.
I imagine people dressed in their best shirts at Easter, going around town in their best shirts burning the houses of Jews, in their best shirts, killing Jews. A shirt with dense embroidery all over the sleeves and chest has a note that says it is from Husiatyn. I look it up and find that it was largely a Jewish town, and Ukrainians lived in the outskirts. There is a fortress synagogue from the Renaissance period, now abandoned.
When my partner Aaron visits I take him to an event at the museum where a man shows his collection of over fifty musical instruments from Ukraine, and he plays each one. Children are seated on the floor at the front. We’re standing in a corner, the room full of Ukrainians, very aware that we look like Jews, but not sure if anyone recognizes what that looks like anymore. Aaron gets emotional over a song played on the bandura.
A note with a dress says it came from the Buchach region. I find a story of Jewish life in Buchach in the early twentieth century, preparing to flee as the Nazis take over. I cry over this.
I’m cataloguing a set of commemorative ribbons that were placed on the grave of a Ukrainian Nationalist leader, Yevhen Konovalets, after he was assassinated. The ribbons were collected and stored by another Nationalist, Andriy Melnyk, who took over leadership after Konovalets’ death. The ribbons are painted or embroidered with messages honouring the dead politician. I start to recognize the word for “leader”, the Cyrillic letters which make up the name of the colonel, the letters “OYH” which stand for Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN in English). The OUN played a big part in the Lviv pogroms in 1941, I learn. The Wikipedia article has a black and white image of a woman in her underwear, running in terror from a man and a young boy carrying a stick of wood. The woman’s face is dark, her nose may be bleeding. Her underwear is torn, her breast exposed. I’m measuring, photographing, recording the stains and loose threads in the banners that honour men who would have done this to me.
Every day I can’t stop looking at my phone, looking up the news from Gaza, tapping through Instagram stories that show what the news won’t. Half my family won’t talk to the other half, after I share an article by a scholar of Holocaust and genocide studies, who says Israel is committing a genocide. My dad makes a comment that compares Gaza to the Warsaw Ghetto. This gets him in trouble. My aunt says I must have learned this antisemitism at university, but there is no excuse for my dad.
This morning I see images from Israeli attacks in the West Bank, where they are not at war. There are naked bodies on the dusty ground. I’m not sure if they are alive. This is what I think of when I see the image from the Lviv pogrom. If what it means for Jews to be safe from oppression is to become the oppressor, I don’t want safety. I don’t want to speak about Jews as if we are one People, because I have so little in common with those in green uniforms and tanks. I am called a self-hating Jew but I think I am a self-reflecting Jew.
I don’t know how to articulate how it feels to be handling objects which remind me of Jewish traumas I inherited only from history classes and books. Textiles hold evidence of the bodies that made them and used them. I measure the waist of a skirt and notice that it is the same as my waist size. I think of clothing and textiles that were looted from Jewish homes during pogroms. I think of clothing and textiles that were looted from Palestinian homes during the ongoing Nakba. Clothes hold the shape of the body that once dressed in them. Sometimes there are tears, mends, stains. I am rummaging through personal belongings in my nitrile gloves.
I am hands-on learning about the violence caused by Ukrainian Nationalism while more than nine thousand Palestinians have been killed by the State of Israel in three weeks, not to mention all those who have been killed in the last seventy-five years of occupation, in the name of the Jewish Nation, the Jewish People — me? If we (and I am hesitant to say “we”) learned anything from the centuries of being killed, it was how to kill. This should not have been the lesson learned. Zionism wants us to feel constantly like the victims, like we need to defend ourself, like violence is necessary, inevitable. I need community that believes in freedom for all, not just our own People. I need the half of my family who believes in this necessary “self-defence” to remember our history, and not just the one that ends happily ever after with the creation of the State of Israel. Genocide should not be this controversial. We should not be okay with this.
Tomorrow I will go to work and keep cataloguing banners that honour the leader of an organization which led pogroms. I will keep checking the news, crying into my phone, coordinating with organizers about our next actions, grappling with how we can be a tiny part in ending this genocide that the world won’t acknowledge, out of guilt over the ones it ignored long ago.

High Operational Cost Associated with Stem Cell Banking, along with the stringent regulatory Frameworks May Impede the Market Growth of Stem Cell Banking.
Stem cell therapies have grown in popularity in recent years as individuals seek out alternative treatments for a variety of chronic diseases. Every day, new types of therapies are introduced, and individuals from all over the world are turning to them in place of traditional drug treatments and hospital visits. Despite the significant increase in demand for stem cell therapies, they remain prohibitively expensive to pursue. Simple joint injections cost close to US$ 5000, and more advanced treatments cost up to US$ 100,000, depending on the condition.
Furthermore, the stem cell field remains highly specialized and has yet to be adopted by citizens or insurance companies. Additionally, the field is further limited by older laws in some countries, most notably the United States. That means that there are relatively few sources for stem cells, and labs equipped to perform stem cells.

Things the Biden-Harris Administration Did This Week #31
August 9-16 2024
President Biden and Vice-President Harris announced together the successful conclusion of the first negotiations between Medicare and pharmaceutical companies over drug prices. For years Medicare was not allow to directly negotiate princes with drug companies leaving seniors to pay high prices. It has been a Democratic goal for many years to change this. President Biden noted he first introduced a bill to allow these negotiations as a Senator back in 1973. Thanks to Inflation Reduction Act, passed with no Republican support using Vice-President Harris' tie breaking vote, this long time Democratic goal is now a reality. Savings on these first ten drugs are between 38% and 79% and will collectively save seniors $1.8 billion dollars in out of pocket costs. This comes on top of the Biden-Harris Administration already having capped the price of insulin for Medicare's 3.5 million diabetics at $35 a month, as well as the Administration's plan to cap Medicare out of pocket drug costs at $2,000 a year starting January 2025.
President Biden and Vice President Harris have launched a wide ranging all of government effort to crack down on companies wasting customers time with excessive paperwork, hold times, and robots rather than real people. Some of the actions from the "Time is Money" effort include: The FTC and FCC putting forward rules that require companies to make canceling a subscription or service as easy as signing up for it. The Department of Transportation has required automatic refunds for canceled flights. The CFPB is working on rules to require companies to have to allow customers to speak to a real person with just one button click ending endless "doom loops" of recored messages. The CFPB is also working on rules around chatbots, particularly their use from banks. The FTC is working on rules to ban companies from posting fake reviews, suppressing honest negative reviews, or paying for  positive reviews. HHS and the Department of Labor are taking steps to require insurance companies to allow health claims to be submitted online. All these actions come on top of the Biden Administration's efforts to get rid of junk fees.
President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden announced further funding as part of the President's Cancer Moonshot. The Cancer Moonshot was launched by then Vice-President Biden in 2016 in the aftermath of his son Beau Biden's death from brain cancer in late 2015. It was scrapped by Trump as political retaliation against the Obama-Biden Administration. Revived by President Biden in 2022 it has the goal of cutting the number of cancer deaths in half over the next 25 years, saving 4 million lives. Part of the Moonshot is Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), grants to help develop cutting edge technology to prevent, detect, and treat cancer. The President and First Lady announced $150 million in ARPA-H grants this week focused on more successful cancer surgeries. With grants to Tulane, Rice, Johns Hopkins, and Dartmouth, among others, they'll help fund imaging and microscope technology that will allow surgeons to more successfully determine if all cancer has been remove, as well as medical imaging focused on preventing damage to healthy tissues during surgeries.
Vice-President Harris announced a 4-year plan to lower housing costs. The Vice-President plans on offering $25,000 to first time home buyers in down-payment support. It's believed this will help support 1 million first time buyers a year. She also called for the building of 3 million more housing units, and a $40 billion innovation fund to spur innovative housing construction. This adds to President Biden's call for a $10,000 tax credit for first time buyers and calls by the President to punish landlords who raise the rent by over 5%.
President Biden Designates the site of the 1908 Springfield Race Riot a National Monument. The two day riot in Illinois capital took place just blocks away from Abraham Lincoln's Springfield home. In August 1908, 17 people die, including a black infant, and 2,000 black refugees were forced to flee the city. As a direct result of the riot, black community leaders and white allies met a few months later in New York and founded the NAACP. The new National Monument will seek to preserve the history and educate the public both on the horrible race riot as well as the foundation of the NAACP. This is the second time President Biden has used his authority to set up a National Monument protecting black history, after setting up the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument on Emmett Till's 82nd birthday July 25th 2023.
The Department of The Interior announced $775 million to help cap and clean up orphaned oil and gas wells. The money will help cap wells in 21 states. The Biden-Harris Administration has allocated $4.7 billion to plug orphaned wells, a billion of which has already been distributed. More than 8,200 such wells have been capped since the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed in 2022. Orphaned wells leak toxins into communities and are leaking the super greenhouse gas methane. Plugging them will not only improve the health of nearby communities but help fight climate change on a global level.
Vice-President Harris announced plans to ban price-gouging in the food and grocery industries. This would be a first ever federal ban on price gouging and Harris called for clear "rules of the road" on price rises in food, and strong penalties from the FTC for those who break them. This is in line with President Biden's launching of a federal Strike Force on Unfair and Illegal Pricing in March, and Democratic Senator Bob Casey's bill to ban "shrinkflation". In response to this pressure from Democrats on price gouging and after aggressive questions by Senator Casey and Senator Elizabeth Warren, the supermarket giant Kroger proposed dropping prices by a billion dollars

#i leave the house like a cishet man who doesn’t care about his wife. phone; wallet; keys. done#but i see all these posts where people are like ~essentials every woman needs to have with them~ and i’m like what in the goddamn hell#are you talking about. i don’t even use lip balm at home. like.#hand sanitiser? girl i’m washing my hands in the bathroom. plaster/band aid? buying one. scrunchie? already in my hair#deodorant? i’ll smell. hairbrush? i’ll look crazy. sun lotion? i’m either getting out of the sun or buying it. or i applied it before i left#painkillers? i’ll suffer til i get home. power bank? i don’t want to be here long enough for my phone to die#water bottle? buying it & then taking the plastic bottle home and reusing it until it splinters to pieces. food? buying it. i probably only#left the house TO buy food#safety pins??? what in the goddamn hell are you talking about#like i have this friend of a friend who randomly decided he needs a handbag and apparently had an insane dozen item long list of stuff#he needs to put in it. which like.. fine. you’re a father. but also how many times realistically have you been out of the house and wanted#to apply body lotion????#maybe i don’t want the answer to that. idk. shit just baffles me man#i wouldn’t even bring myself if i didn’t have to#i give him 2 weeks before he leaves that bag on a bus or ditches it#personal#really literally the only essentials besides the big 3 for me are tissues (for my perpetual allergies); mask (self explanatory)#and dog poop bags (because of mabel). that’s it#why would i bring a giant bag around with me. just gives me an extra thing to be anxious about

I've seen the commercial for teeth whitening with the "tissue test" one too many fucking times and i'm snapping.
Your teeth! Should not! Be paper! Fucking white! If you hold a tissue to your teeth and the colors don't match,
GOOD!!
If you were walking around with white tic tacs in your mouth, you would look like a god damn robot. Your teeth are supposed to have color and natural variation and trying to attain tissue paper teeth is misguided and pointless!
I'm gonna find the phone number for the crest whitening strips advertising team and bellow atonally into their voicemail until i pass out i swear to god 😤
