It was that point in my life [winning the Billy T Award] that I decided "it's on." I was working at One Red Dog at the time and I thought "they'd treated me so well, we're gonna leave there on a high note." And we did a show, we put a full show on, but no one in the room knew we were doing a show. It was myself, Rhys Darby, Jackie van Beek, and Johnny Brugh. It was called A Dog Show. It started out with Rhys and Jackie having a date night. They exchanged gifts, Jackie gives Rhys this enormous dildo, and they just start having this quiet argument. And everyone who was regulars there knew I worked there as a waiter, so then I'd come up to them and interact with them. This argument just started escalating till Rhys was whacking this dildo on this guy's table. They're freaking out. Then Johnny Brugh shows up wearing nothing but leather pants with an electric guitar and just starts drinking beer and wailing on his electric guitar. And then after about fifteen minutes, people started realizing it was a comedy show. They all get into it. It ends with everyone standing up on tables, singing. And we did a week of that, and it slowly became known, and people would come along for it, and that was how I left One Red Dog after winning the Billy T.

Campaign Against Living Miserably - Call for Help
Tumblr media
Suicide has been one of the biggest killers of men in the UK. To deal with this issue, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) launched their Awareness campaign Call for Help recently for those who were experiencing suicidal thoughts. They provide a free and anonymous helpline for these people to reach out.
Tumblr media
CALM introduced the ‘Call For Help’ campaign which resembles a smartphone on billboards and digital display through out-of-home (OOH) marketing across the UK. The campaign is linked live to their Suicide Prevention Line, and whenever they receive a call, the ads are interrupted with a loud ringtone, which catches the people’s attention. They want to show the people who might be scared to make a call, how regular these calls are made, and how immediately the calls are answered to help them.
Tumblr media
In the video, they tell the people that they receive over 200 calls a day. In 2018 alone, they have prevented 675 suicides. We think campaigns like these should be necessary, as they help to reduce suicides and spread awareness about such serious issues. 'I am just shaking:' What people saw and heard during the Fredericton shooting
Residents of a tranquil Fredericton neighbourhood watched and waited for nearly three anxious hours early Friday as authorities tracked down a suspect who allegedly opened fire and killed four people, two of them police officers.
For some, the terror began from the moment they opened their eyes. For others, it didn't sink in until they learned they were forced to hide in their homes. Here is how the morning unfolded from their perspectives.
--------
David MacCoubrey was asleep in his apartment on Brookside Drive when three shots echoed through the morning calm mere metres from his bed.
"It sounded like the first one came from right outside my bedroom window ... I was hoping for the two seconds that I was groggy that it was kids blowing off firecrackers," he said. "Then two more happened within the first three minutes."
MacCoubrey said he heard at least 17 more shots over the next hour and a half, which he spent sitting on the floor far from his apartment windows.
--------
Tim Morehouse said he heard the trouble before he saw it.
In his apartment on 237 Brookside Dr., he said he heard someone yelling "shut up! Shut up!" Then the bullets began to fly, first in a volley of two, then another of three.
When he looked out his apartment window, he said he saw the body of a man lying in the back parking lot of his building. He called 911, heard more shots and took another glance out the window.
"I hear more shots and looked out and there's two police officers on the ground," he said.
--------
As police went around the neighbourhood, Louise Kennedy was advised to vacate her apartment at 237 Brookside. But the 75-year-old woman said she couldn't flee to safety while her pet remained in potential danger.
"I couldn't leave my dog behind," Kennedy said, sitting and trembling in her apartment. "The police officer told me to stay away from the windows and to lock the doors."
Looking after her dog did not dispel her own fear, however.
"I am just shaking. I am scared to death," she said.
--------
Travis Hrubeniuk's fiancee had just left for work around 7:45 a.m. when he began hearing a steady stream of sirens passing his home. Aware that his typically quiet neighbourhood was under lockdown, the 27-year-old Winnipeg native spent the time combing social media for updates on the evolving situation.
The area he's called home for a year, which features houses, a school and other hallmarks of a peaceful residential community, is the last place Hrubeniuk said he expected to encounter a dangerous situation.
"This is the first time I've even heard of any serious crime or violent crime in this city," he said. "It's a little off-putting that way."
--------
Business owners and their employees also found themselves at loose ends while police blanketed the area. Funeral Director Bill Henwood was among a crowd of bystanders barred from going to offices located behind the area investigators had cordoned off.
People sat in their cars or stood near the blockade of police and fire vehicles "hanging tight and waiting for word" on what comes next, he said.
One local daycare took the precaution of relocating children to another facility slightly further away from the scene of the shootings. While staff said they kept the doors locked, the kids carried on with normal life, playing with toys or watching a movie as the police investigation unfolded.
--------
Annick Meilleur, 50, watched in shock as buses that usually travel along busy main routes began diverting down her side street near the shooting scene.
Shock gave way to relief when, at 9:45 a.m., police announced they had a suspect in custody. Meilleur suspects that relief will last and restore the sense of safety and calm she's come to expect of the area.
"I feel like looking over my shoulder or looking at people differently, but I think that will subside," she said. "Being on lockdown was very bizarre because I leave my door unlocked most of the time. There's nothing to fear."
--------
As police announced that a suspect was in custody, displaced residents began trickling into Scott Macleod's funeral home, some with their pets in tow.
Macleod said some came to the building in search of other family members.
"Everyone is puzzled, everyone is confused," he said. "They are wondering what the next steps are."

Richmond’s Bachar Houli banned for four matches by AFL Appeal Board
Richmond defender Bachar Houli was suspended for four matches on Thursday night after the AFL’s appeal against the decision of its own tribunal was upheld.
Having chosen on Wednesday to take the unprecedented step of appealing the tribunal’s two-match ban applied to Houli for his knockout blow to Carlton’s Jed Lamb at the MCG on Sunday, AFL football operations manager Simon Lethlean looked on during the hearing at Etihad Stadium, which lasted more than two hours.

The three-person Appeals Board of Brian Collis QC, Michael Green and chairman Peter O’Callaghan QC took around 10 minutes to come to their decision before briefly outlining their reasons.
Houli will miss matches against Port Adelaide (Adelaide Oval), St Kilda (Etihad Stadium), Brisbane Lions (Etihad) and Greater Western Sydney (MCG).

The AFL argued that the two-week sanction imposed on Tuesday night by the tribunal had been “manifestly inadequate.”
In particular the league had taken umbrage at the tribunal’s decision to take into account evidence about Houli’s off-field character, including character reference from television personality and Richmond supporter Waleed Aly, and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who has worked with Houli as part of the defender’s off-field work growing football in the Muslim community.
The board agreed, indicating that they were not relevant considerations.

Houli spoke briefly after the hearing, saying he accepted the decision and that his concern “is and always has been for Jed, and I hope he recovers really quick.”

“We move on with life, and I’ll do my best to help the team prepare for the next few games,” he added.
Lethlean also stopped for a brief statement, noting that Houli would continue to be held in “high regard” despite his indiscretion.

“Our actions in appealing the tribunal decision were about protecting players from injury to the head, and this is very important to us,” Lethlean said.
“I want to reassure Bachar that he will continue to be held in high standing and high regard in our game, and in our community.”
AFL counsel Andrew Woods drew the analogy that taking into account a player’s off-field behaviour in determining a sanction for an on-field incident was like considering whether a member of the public was a good footballer in deciding on a sentence for a criminal matter.
Woods said that doing so would set a “dangerous and cumbersome precedent.”
Even if character were to be taken into account, Woods said it should be a factor in determining whether Houli’s suspension should be limited to four matches, not whether it should lead to a sanction of fewer than four games.
The AFL claimed that four matches should be the base sanction, leaving open the prospect that the Appeals Board could suspend Houli for more than four games.
The league had also sought to have a fresh medical update on Lamb tendered as evidence on the basis that concussion is not a static condition. However the board said that as Lamb’s injury was already known to be “severe” it was unnecessary for new evidence to be allowed. Lamb was on Thursday night left out of the Blues team for Saturday’s match against Adelaide at the MCG despite his mandible not being fractured.
Houli’s lawyer Michael Tovey QC noted how Houli had sought out Lamb’s phone number to apologise, and contended that Houli’s work with the Muslim community was of “unique and extraordinary importance.” They also argued that Houli’s act had not been “an intentional strike to the head” but rather “an intentional strike resulting in contact to the head.”
Houli’s counsel also made note of tribunal member Wayne Henwood’s level of experience, ridiculing the suggestion that he wouldn’t appreciate which factors to take into consideration.
Sitting alongside Richmond football chief Neil Balme, Houli averted his eyes as the footage of Sunday’s incident was shown on a television monitor.
Houli, 29, has never previously been suspended during his 162-game career. The one-time Essendon player has played all 13 games this season for the Tigers, averaging more than 23 disposals per game.

Houli cops two-game ban for ‘intentional’ hit
Houli reported for Lamb strike Bachar Houli in the book for this incident with a dazed Jed Lamb
RICHMOND backman Bachar Houli has been banned for two games after the Tribunal found him guilty of intentionally striking Carlton’s Jed Lamb.
The Tiger, represented by Sam and Michael Tovey, argued the contact was careless, rather than intentional as was found by the Match Review Panel.
Houli also submitted character references from Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Gold Logie-winning TV presenter and academic Waleed Aly.
In the incident against the Blues, Houli swung his left arm behind him and struck Lamb, who was left unconscious and didn’t return to the game.
The MRP graded the incident high impact and high contact and referred the case directly to the Tribunal.
AFL legal counsel Andrew Woods submitted to Tribunal chairman Ross Howie QC that a four-game ban was the appropriate sanction, while Sam Tovey, representing the club and Houli, asked for a two-game suspension.
RECAP: How the Houli, Schofield Tribunal hearings unfolded
Tribunal members David Neitz, Hamish McIntosh and Wayne Henwood deliberated for five minutes before finding Houli intentionally struck Lamb and another five minutes before settling on his penalty. The entire case took almost two hours.

When the Tribunal handed down its verdict, it said it was “rare” to come across someone with Houli’s character.
“My programs that I run target more than 11,000 students that come from an Islamic background all around Australia. I run an academy as well,” Houli, a devout Muslim, said earlier in the hearing.
“Our objective is to get these young men into football. If not, (we want to make them) good community leaders.”
Houli is set to miss games against Port Adelaide and St Kilda.
Appeal upheld: Schofield cleared of striking Demon
The Tiger said Lamb had been holding his jumper, so Houli swung his arm back in an attempt to separate himself. He said he tried to connect with Lamb’s “elbow to shoulder area”.
Houli said he went to Carlton leaders Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbs immediately after the game and said: “I’d never, ever do anything to hurt anyone”.
He pointed to his record inside and outside football (never having been suspended in a 162-game AFL career or in junior football) and said the Blues pair accepted what Houli said.
Houli categorically denied intending to strike Lamb in the head.
“It’s false, absolutely false. I’ve never hit anyone in my life,” Houli said.

The Tiger apologised via text after he obtained Lamb’s number from Carlton assistant coach Tim Clarke.
Umpire Matt Stevic was called upon to deliver evidence. He wasn’t the controlling umpire at the time and was about 35m away from the contest, with what he said was an unobstructed view.
Stevic believed it should have been graded careless because Houli wasn’t looking at Lamb.
The last Tribunal hearing was just over a year ago, when Tom Rockliff successfully challenged a fine for striking West Coast midfielder Matt Priddis.
