DNF: Ghost of a Tale (Project NoBa24)
Tumblr media
Set in a world where rats rule and the other species have to get by, a wandering minstrel (not that kind) named Tilo awakens in the cell of the rat king and must find his way out to reunite with his wife.
I have a soft spot for worldbuilding in the style of Redwall but especially Mouse Guard, and this game has no less of it. You're constantly aware of how small you are, with rats towering over you and even bigger creatures on the horizon. It's an intoxicating world to live in, and one I could spend hours on were it not for one tiny character flaw.
I find I don't really have the patience for stealth games in the style of Thief. If I had bothered to look at the game genres I would have been aware of what I would've just said "not for me" and moved on. I don't think I'll even leave a Steam review for this one, so short is my playtime with it.
I can't fault the game or its story, because I won't get that far into it. If you like stealth games, give it a play through. If you like little mice getting into big adventures, keep your head down and save when you're hidden.
Time played: 33 minutes
Next game: Psychonauts 2

I read your fanfiction, but through a translator, you have really interesting headcanons, I love it. and I also really love Snorl, haha. Do you have any hc about him? I'm interested in your point of view!
oooh haha
° actually Snorl is quite soft and helpful, just swears a lot
° and knows muridean language, not very well, but most local rats know (hello-goodbye-please-fuck off)
° he likes to work with ouma Rezzia in the kitchen (because of apples and warmth)
° actually Snorl KNEW that he must open Tilo's door and leave it opened, because Silas asked him to help this minstrel
° lol okay, Silas had to give him some money, so that he agrees
° but Silas didn't ask him to hide green apple for minstrel in small cage, Snorl did this JUST because of great lulz
° I wrote this too, yesss

Some mice and rats.
I like this concept of medieval/fantasy mice and rats, and love these two things: Ghost of a Tale game and The Tale of Despereaux book/cartoon.
I’ve try to make Despereaux and Rascuro between the cartoon and the book version. However, in the third picture there are cartoon Roscuro meet book Chiaroscuro (and book Despereaux)

Out on top the surface of the ocean, a tiny boat-bound traveler could be spotted. With nothing to his sea vessel but a simple row boat with two paddles. He was practically asking for trouble if the sea decided she was going to be dangerous and unruly today.
Tilo, on a personal level, didn’t think of himself as quite so vulnerable at the moment. On some level it was an objective fact that Rolo (”Otto”, if you prefer) had warned him about, but Tilo’s entire mindset going into this travel to Periclave was just that he had to try and make it there in one piece and try as fast as possible. For Merra, she couldn’t wait for second guesses.
Tumblr media
Tilo was no pirate, he didn’t have the gull and emotional toughness of Kerold or even Silas for that matter. These sea charts his friends gave him should lead him directly to the great island city, but it was going to be a long travel, –and Tilo thanked his lucky stars that he hadn’t eaten all his supplies of food while at Duinlan Heights. Tilo had all kinds of (mouse-sized) food in his boat with him, carrots, bread loafs, small insects, cheese, anchovies, Holly bush berries. You could practically fuse the food items he brought with him and make a ton of tasty sandwiches (insects tasted something akin to meat to a rodent’s tastebuds) Tilo would not starve on this boat, that was for sure. Tilo gave his little arms a rest from the workout of paddling/rowing his boat and double-checks his sea charts to make sure he's going the right way. Rolo's ( the pirate who made these sea charts ) handwriting was hard to read. —Tilo supposed he shouldn't have expected a pirate to have the cleanest handwriting.
