Feather AU

The title is a work in progress, I haven’t decided anything for sure yet but for the sake of simplicity we’ll just call it the Feather AU. Also I did talk about this AU breifly on discord, so if you’re on TLOC and this sounds familiar, that’s probably why sifbskcnsof

Dabihawks, canon divergence, spoilers for manga chapters through 272 (but no further bc the rest of the arc isn’t going to be important, if it even happens in this), angst/fluff/maybe implied smoot

Hawks gets his wings burned off by Dabi (chapter 272)

He’s rushed to the hospital in hopes that his wings can be saved. at this point, hawks is basically in and out of consciousness, if not passed out completely from pain

He wakes up eventually in the hospital. The room is empty, no gifts or flowers or cards, no people either, only the steady beeping on the heart monitor

There’s a single card, signed by the president of the hero commission. It says something about “you did well. Most of the League escaped (Dabi included it doesn’t say that in the letter I’m just telling you so you as the reader knows sjdbdid), but you completed your mission.” Not even get well soon or anything.

The doctor comes in and tells him good news and bad. Good: Hawks will survive just fine, he’ll have a long healthy life, all that. Bad: it’s incredibly unlikely that his wings will ever grow back and he’s been rendered basically quirkless. The doctor says something about how he could probably still control his feathers, but those all kinda burned up so that’s useless anyway.

the media told everyone Hawks had died in the hospital, killed by Dabi (a coverup by the hero commission)

He checks out and goes home after a few days and one of the first things he does is carefully take off the bandages to see the almost-done-healing scars. Big angsty cry

He gets a call from his handler. He’s been relieved from heroing. HAh more pain

He ends up just kinda existing, he doesn’t get a job (the commission still pays him some until he can get a new job and he still has a ton of money saved from being a hero). He just floats by day to day. He’s started going by Takami again and he wanders the city most days.

He finds himself realizing that everytime he wanders, he ends up in a familiar place, the warehouse downtown, the roof of an abandoned apartment complex, the back alley of some shitty club. He’s been to each of these places before and there was something in common with each: they’d been where he and Dabi had hung out together

There’s a strange tugging in his chest and seeing as he has nothing better to do, he packs a bag and follows the tug.

It takes him across a few different cities, the tug getting stronger sometimes.

As he travels, he has a lot of time to think, and he ends up thinking about Dabi and everything that happened (during the travelling part, imma throw in a bunch of flashbacks to when he and Dabi had been together). He kinda doesn’t blame Dabi for trying to kill him, he betrayed them all, even after telling Dabi he loved him so many times. Poor guy was probably heart broken, also y’know hawks murdered Dabis friends so liek

The tug starts getting gradually stronger and Hawks realizes it’s a feather. It had somehow survived and someone must have it. He stops at a shitty hotel at some point and he can almost feel the feather, it feels as though someone is playing with it, the ghost feeling of fingers stroking it.

Hawks has a dream that night: it’s a memory of Dabi. It was the night they showed each other who they really were, not Dabi and Hawks, but Keigo and Touya. It had been then that Hawks realized that he did actually love Dabi and the start of the inner struggle of his love vs. His mission. He’d given Dabi a feather that night. “Just in case” he’d whispered against Dabi’s lips

Hawks wakes up suddenly, the tugging of the feather suddenly so much stronger, as if it were much closer. Vaguely, he thinks he hears someone talk to the feather. Something about “I’m sorry. I don’t think I can forgive you, but I miss you” and suddenly, Hawks realizes that the feather he’s been chasing is the one he gave Dabi, the one he just dreamed about

He manages to go back to sleep with thoughts of Dabi. He wakes up that morning and almost turns around bc *dabi* is the one with the feather, maybe he should just turn around and let go

He keeps following it anyway, this time with thoughts filled with all the ways he’d kill the fucker for burning his wings and destroying his life

He finds Dabi on a roof, much like the ones they’d frequent together before. Hawks’ voice cracks when he calls out to Dabi, who hasn’t noticed him yet “Touya”

Dabis tiffens and turns suddenly, feather clutched tightly. All of the murderous intention was suddenly gone and Hawks was honestly so relieved to see Dabi, and Dabi seemed relieved to see hawks too.

Dabi thought he was dead, just like everyone else had been told

They talk. A lot. Also hug

so yeah, Feather AU really isn't as angsty as you'd expect. As a general idea, it's more angsty the vaguer the idea gets. The fluff is in the details that i left out for the sake of simplicity when i was explaining it LMAO

Why yes, I am going to name a fic that I’ll start writing soon ‘A Nicklecade At Noon’ Why, you ask? Because that’s what it is, and it sounds like the title of a Magic TreeHouse book and honestly that fills me with so much nostalgia that I couldn’t not.

Voltage AU (Shinkami)

Slight TW: Alcohol use, alcoholic parent, absent parent, abuse, manipulation, murder

Denki’s mother is an abusive alcoholic that doesn’t really care for him much, and his father is absent. Somehow, the Hero Commission (HPSC) catches word of his situation and quirk, they offer to train Denki to be a hero and offer compensation in return. She takes the offer (basically what happened to Hawks)

HPSC finds Hitoshi through the Quirk Registry and do basically the same thing, however his parents are a little more hesitant, giving in eventually bc of his ‘villainous’ quirk

The boys are put in the same training program Hawks was in. The training is brutal but Denki and Hitoshi become friends (they probably share a dorm room thingy)

HPSC is suuuuuper manipulative (as we can already assume), after about 3 years (the boys are 15 now and about to apply for UA), Kami’s handler pushes a little too hard and Kami snaps, killing him with 1 mil volts (the training has made it so he doesn’t short-circuit as fast or if at all, i haven’t decided)

He goes to Toshi, who calms him down and tells him to run, fast and far. Toshi promises that they’ll see each other again at some point

Time skip to present day, Toshi is 23 and an underground hero. The commission assigns him a new mission: Track down the Vigilante, Voltage. Voltage has kills hundreds, mostly domestic abusers and commission agents.

Kami is Voltage (duh lmao)

Toshi tracks him down and introduces himself as PuppetMaster (this is important later on) and he wants to help Voltage in his cause. They obviously recognize each other but neither comments on it and basically pretends to not know each other (toshi hopes kami had forgotten and kami knows this is a mission but its one of those “’Ight, i’ll play your game” type things)

Kami insists that he works alone. Toshi keeps tracking him down (istg it’s like a dabihawks but its shinkami au a;skjdgh) and eventually they run into each other at a club or something. they decide to get drunk cause why the hell not (remember they’re 23 now so like, legal adults in both japan and america, it doesn’t matter lmao)

They end up talking about their shared past at some point and probably make out (also maybe some implied sexual conent?)

The next day, they both pretend to have forgotten the night before

One night, they meet up on a roof and have a few drinks. They talk about the past again bc at this point they’ve kinda given up on the whole pretending-we-don’t-have-a-shared-past thing. 

Kami says, “Why did you take my case? Did they force you? Did you recognize my name and decide that maybe you could convince me to come back? Because we were such good friends before? If you think I’m going to go back to being their puppet, you’re wrong. you would know all about puppets, wouldn’t you? After all, isn’t it a little ironic that the PuppetMaster is the one being played?”

He walks off and they don’t see each other for a while.

A few weeks later, out of nowhere Denki texts something along the lines of “Still interested in joining ‘my cause’? [Location sent]”

Shinso is conflicted bc he knows that Denki knows that this was fake, just a part of the mission, he thinks maybe this is a trap. But what if Kami was doing something stupid and Toshi had the chance to stop him?

He goes to the location. When he gets there, he finds a HPSC handler dead and Kami unconscious bc of the handler’s quirk (havent figured that out but i’ll make it work)

Toshi reports the body, and tells them Voltage escaped before he got there. He picks up Denki and takes him to his (toshi’s) apartment.

The next morning, Kami wakes up to Hitoshi cooking some breakfast or something. There’s a heart-to-heart and apologies. Basically domestic fluff (+some sexual tension maybe 👀 idk haven’t figured that out, there’ll be a lot of sexual tension in other parts tho, probably)

They meet up a few days later. Toshi says, “What you said earlier, about me taking the case, it wasn’t exactly a lie. I did hope that maybe I could bring you back, but mostly, I just wanted to see you again.”

K: “And now that you have?”

H: “I don’t know. I don’t want to arrest you, but that’s the whole point of taking the mission.” 

Kaminari sighs and says, ”You’re smart. You’ll figure it out” He leaves after leaving a small kiss on the corner of Toshi’s lips

Toshi’s the one short-circuiting now, but Kami is gone before he can say anything.

A little while later, he(toshi)’s stressing out bc of his weird friend-slash-enemies-slash-love-interest-but-i-have-to-arrest-you-eventually-relationship-thing with Kami, and his handler is breathing down his throat about the progress of the mission.

A few days later, Kami just, like, shows up at Toshi’s apartment and seeing him makes Toshi just kinda break down about everything. 

Kami suggests he leave the commission and actually join Kami, like for real, not bc of the mission

That’s all I have for this AU idea so far, I have no idea what will happen next but I’ll add onto it later when I figure it out lmao. Also yeah, this is kinda just Dabihawks but it’s shinkami (and its all based off a dream I had about discord in which the only thing I remember was my friend saying something about “kami is free and hitoshi is not” and my brain just filled me in that they meant from the commission.)

A Single Phoenix Feather- Dabihawks, post manga chapter 272 (Keigo has to readjust to life, now that his career is shattered and his wings will never regrow. His thoughts don't stop straying to Dabi, and when he feels something close to a tug, he makes the impulsive decision to follow it now that he has all the time in the world.
