I finally finished the Handsome Siblings and i liked it and the ending was cool but it was not enough for me, i wanted more. I wanted to see the Jiang brothers or the JiangHua brothers fighting alongside for once, and not only scheming to have justice, i really wanted to see them fighting alongside with a silent understanding and a silent cooperation and how they are practically invincible alone but when they fight together they become invincible² when they’re together and just how they complete each other in these scenes; i wanted to see them bonding; i wanted to see Hua Wuque pondering over “how could you be so naive? do you think we really cared about you? we treated you well so you would be amenable”; i wanted to see him questioning his own existence and every single thing when he was betrayed by the 2 people he trusted most in this world, that he cared for most in this world, that he would unhesitatingly give his life for; i wanted to see him being a little broken because he IS a little broken; and then i wanted to see Tie Xinlan and Jiang Xiaoyu slowly fixing him; i wanted to see him visiting He Lu and He Shuang and them being happy when he does; i wanted to see Tie Xinlan actually loving him, i mean yes she loved him but i wanted to see it through her actions and i just wanted to see him being loved i guess (yes i am part of the Protect Hua Wuque At All Costs club so what?)
I already wanted to see more of his internal monologues because how could he not question himself after everything that happened. he only once told He Lu and He Shuang that he blamed himself for that wedding incident but i’m sure he was questioning a lot more things than only blaming himself but then again i was also glad we got that little much of a dialogue about it.

May I join in the discussion?
About Tie Xinlan, her martial skills weren’t great and at the beginning she was bluffing. She was able to beat Xiaoyu when they first met is because Xiaoyu wasn’t strong either. Xinlan’s skills came from her dad The Mad Lion and he left when she was 9 or 10 so she wasn’t able to learn much from him, which is why she lost just about every fight later.
But I believe she had her moments of badass too, like when she saved Wuque from her dad; without her intervention (although failed) her dad might have already snapped Wuque’s neck. And then she came to Yihua Palace alone to confront Wuque’s aunts; or when she stripped to stop Wuque from killing Xiaoyu, which is basically trampling all over her own dignity. To be able to do it requires a certain level of bravery and so I think Tie Xinlan was actually in her own way.
Hey there, want to talk to me about Handsome Siblings and how all Hua Wuque ever craved was friends, what a cinnamon roll Hai Zhi Zhu is, how badass the Murong sisters as a family set up are, how Tie Xielan started badass and lost it, the countless ways Jiang Yulang should die again and how Xioayu'er is the cdrama equivalent of Captain Kirk, including talking computers to death while their uncle goes into gay retirement (seclusion) with his caretaker of 18 years?
I’m still bitter over tie xielan btw like that was the only truly disappointing part of this drama. i mean this girl shows up dressed in man’s clothes, claiming to be one of the best cultivators + heroes in the world, kicks ass, tries to recruit the mc as her disciple, and then... it just all goes downhill from there. the sheer amount of scenes where I was like “where... where is your sword?” like i get it, we’re trying to depict how falling in love makes one more vulnerable but holy crap, they don’t somehow get their entire personality transplanted
THE GAY UNCLE GOING INTO SECLUSION WITH HIS CARETAKER THO
what goddamn drama gives you a ship in the last episode? like I was sitting there going, he really did... protect & take care of nantian for 18 years, didn’t he? literally up to that point i was like hm, weird medical experimentation, okay. but then it’s suddenly it’s a valid love story of spending two decades trying to heal a loved one on the brink of death? i’m
this drama gave me so many emotional whiplashes
AND I FELL IN LOVE WITH LITTLE FAIRY tbh if she ended up with anyone else except gu renyu i would’ve gotten pissed but he’s such a precious cupcake and they’re so CUTE TOGETHER ugh like I can’t wait to rewatch this bc it was genuinely one of the most feel-good dramas I’ve seen all year

I will take your offering for a fic, could I please have a Handsome Siblings fic with the twins maybe a moment in time years later in their life. Thank you :D
So I have slightly altered the prompt - it’s been months not years. I can always do a second for you if you like this one!!! And I’m sorry it’s taken so long to get round to, I have been in a weird place and words just didn’t work. Hope this is enjoyable!!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the first weeks it was hard enough to adjust to his new name. He was no longer Hua Wuque of Yihua Palace, but Jiang Wuque of his own destiny. The loss of his identity hurt at first, a strange sting that never seemed to ease even with Tie Xinlan at his side. She comforted him as he mourned his aunts and helped him adjust to the new name day by day.
After parting, he didn't see Xiaoyu'er for a few months. Instead he received letters - long and rambling missives detailing his brother's exploits across the country. He read each one with a  smile on his face and always looked forward eagerly to the next. It was like reading some long and exciting novel, never knowing what the next chapter would hold but knowing the hero would come out on the other side with a cocky grin and some clever scheme.
When he did see his brother again (and the joy of thinking that, of knowing he had a twin who was as much a part of himself as he was, lit his heart with a bright flame that wouldn’t die) it was almost too exciting for him to handle. He had spent the night before tossing and turning in his rented bed. Tie Xinlan had tried to soothe him, had rubbed his shoulders and poured them both tea when he paced. But he had been excited - he wanted to see his brother again, to hear his exuberant laugh and listen to his latest adventure in person.
At the inn, when the sun had risen and breakfast had finished, he sat waiting. An hour passed. Another, and Jiang Wuque started to feel anxious. Had Xiaoyu’er forgotten him? Impossible.
There was a “welcome” from the door and a burst of air, the sudden rush of movement and a joyous cry. Jiang Wuque stood and turned, braced himself as his brother lept through the air and barreled into him just as he had all those months ago.
“Brother!” He shouted, his grin wide and bright. Jiang Xiaoyu gripped his arms and held onto him, hugging him and laughing as he gave his brother a once over. “You look- you look different, actually. What’re you wearing? It’s so dark!”
He had dressed in something as far from the white and pale blue of Yihua Palance - it looked remarkably like Xiaoyu’er’s clothes, actually. The coincidence didn’t surprise either of them. He wore a dark grey ensemble with red accents, a mustard yellow sash around his middle, the old jade pendant tucked away in a chest with his other belongings.
Xiaoyu’er smiled softly at him and patted his arms, putting a little space between them. “You look good. Healthy.”
Jiang Wuque couldn’t help but smile back, pink touching his cheeks at the compliment. “You look the same. No new scars, I hope?”
His brother scoffed and threw himself into a chair, feet landing on the table, the epitome of a carefree man. “Not this time. Maybe next time though, hm? I was thinking about going back to Villain’s Valley to see what the lay of the land is next;” he paused, fiddling with his sleeve and glancing at the table almost nervously. “I had actually thought, maybe, you might want to come with me?”
“You want me… to come with you?” He asked quietly, taking a seat with his brother. He waited for the bravado to come back, for Xiaoyu’er to laugh it off and say it was just an idea, that he was fine to go off on his own and actually preferred it that way. “I would like nothing more,” he said instead of waiting any longer.
A look of genuine shock crossed his handsome face and Jiang Wuque heard one of the girls on another table sigh dramatically. It made him smile and he saw Xiaoyu’er grin too, though he at least attempted to hide it with his hand.
“I’m glad you said yes. Su Ying said I should at least try asking, even if you’d said no.”
They lapsed into a gentle quiet after ordering some food and drink and Jiang Wuque couldn’t help but laugh as his brother expressively discussed the best attributes of each dish. He ate ravenously, a bit from every plate, recommending some to Wuque and actively placing food into his bowl when he didn’t act fast enough.
“We’ve got a long journey ahead! You need your strength; now eat up before I decide to eat it for you.”
He had missed his brother. Knowing he was out in the world had been enough for a while, but he was glad they had been able to meet in person. As he packed his things for their journey, he found himself excited to be a part of the stories Xiaoyu’er would write in letters to Su Ying. He was a part of something new, something wonderful and it made his heart warm.

Tie xinlan deserved better than to be love-interest-with-fridged-dad and little more.
That being said, I think hua wuque is successfully stealing his brother/enemy's love interest and it's HILARIOUS

I Wish I Had More to Say About Handsome Siblings
Tumblr media
Handsome Siblings is a 2020 drama based on Juedai Shuangjiao, a novel serialized between 1966 and 1969. It has been through a ton of adaptations, none of which I was familiar with while I was watching this. The series is about twins Jiang Xiaoyu and Hua Wuque who were separated at birth and lived very different lives. Also, Hua Wuque was raised believing that he had to kill Xiaoyu, but the two become friends in spite of this.
Perhaps because it was based on a book, but I really liked the story. It was well-paced and well-acted by a very engaging cast. But there isn’t anything in particular that I want to spend 300 words talking about like I usually do. In light of that, I think I’m just going to bullet-point my thoughts.
I really liked Tie Xinlan and how her relationship with Xiaoyu and Wuque progressed. I never really trusted her claim that she was in love with Xiaoyu, especially because her dynamic with Wuque was a lot more balanced. I do wish we could have seen more of them as a couple.
Speaking of balancing characters, I really liked the character of Su Ying and her relationship with Xiaoyu. I also appreciated that she showed up later in the story. It helped keep the question of who was going to be able to tame Xiaoyu up in the air. Plus the fact that she is one of the few characters able to keep up with Xiaoyu mentally is fantastic and I am here for it.
After the reveal that Xiaoyu and Wuque were siblings happened, I loved the expression on both of their faces. The absolute joy was infectious. I just wish we could have seen them living with that revelation for a little longer.
I honestly wasn’t thrilled with the last few minutes of the series in general. I would have preferred an epilogue that takes place later letting us know where all of the characters afterward.
The Ten Great Villians weren’t really that villainous, though they were interesting parent characters for Xiaoyu.
The character evolution of Murong Ju was interesting. She spent so much time acting like Ms. Meng that it actually felt like whiplash when she got her memories back and rejected Hei Zhuzhu. But I was thrilled when she remembered that he took care of her and realized she was in love with him. Their wedding was also wonderful.
The costumes are bloody beautiful!
And the sets
And the music
And the fight choreography
Especially that penultimate fight between Xiaoyu and Wuque.
To summarize, it’s a really good show that more people should watch.
Happy Viewing!!!

Handsome Siblings, ep 16
So that’s not what happened in the book, and since what happened in the book was AWESOME, i’d like to point this out
everything is basically word for word, right up until Jiang Xiaoyu sneaks back into Jiang Yulang's room. He checks, Yulang's asleep, he snaps the cuff back on, lies down, but before he can go to sleep
he realises that Jiang Biehe is standing right there
Jiang Biehe does the villain monologue, praises Xiaoyu for his intelligence, too bad I gotta kill you now, etc
Jiang Xiaoyu  praises him right back for his intelligence
at which point Jiang Biehe (you all figured out WHO this guy is by now, right? RIGHT?) tells Xiaoyu that someone sneaked into his estate and tried to kill him the night before by drugging him with incense, but he wasn't home
Xiaoyu: well if they're not an amateur they won't come back Biehe: they ARE an amateur, they'll def come back Xiaoyu: OH SO that's why I'm alive, you want to put me in your bed paralysed so they'd kill me instead Biehe: Yes, and then I can go in and KILL THEM and take revenge for you Xiaoyu: WHAT A PLOT, BRILLIANT
So naturally, he gets moved to Biehe's room, and who comes into the room to kill him but
TIE XINLAN
And then, Hua Wuque appears at the last minute and pushes Tie Xinlan's blade away at the very last second, bc "we shouldn't go around killing ppl without evidence" reasons
Tie Xinlan: how dare, he killed my father, my father left markings showing he entered this house and never left Jiang Biehe: I never MET your father Hua Wuque: See? (One day he will stop taking BIG BAD at his word, but today is not that day) Tie Xinlan: Wait if you're not in bed who is this on your bed Jiang Biehe: Uh ... son of an old friend. Why don't you say hi? Xiaoyu: why would i say hi they tried to kill you Tie Xinlan: *gasp it's xiaoyu he's alive omg* Um never mind he didn't kill my dad let's go everyone else: WHAT Biehe: No no you should stay and have dinner Xiaoyu: no they shouldn't Hua Wuque: wait one $#%&^#*$&#^ second i know that voice are you Jiang Xiaoyu? Xiaoyu: oh crap Biehe: you know him? Hua Wuque: Oh good, you're not dead Biehe: uh... of course not. With me here, nothing will happen to him. Hua Wuque: IS THAT SO Xiaoyu: You want to kill the son of hero Jiang's old friend, dream on Hua Wuque: I MUST KILL HIM MYSELF IF I HAVE TO GO THROUGH YOU SO BE IT Biehe: You ... want to kill him? *oh no, fell for xiaoyu's tricks again* Jiang Yulang: *thinking on his feet* dad! my stomach hurts! the wine he gave us was POISONED! Biehe: Poison? How dare you! Go ahead and kill him!
Hua Wuque flies off with Xiaoyu, we're back on track on the word-for-word adaptation
but now Jiang Biehe is suspicious that the mad lion Tie Zhan IS ACTUALLY his mute servant and NEARLY kills him (but now they actually killed him what are they going to do about that plot-point later????)
WHY WOULD YOU CUT THIS AND REPLACE WITH BORING SUSPENSE

Handsome Siblings rewatch: episode 5
First: D: the poor horsey!
Second: that was a long heccing run. How are your lungs?
Third: Oh boy, imagine how abruptly over everything would be if Tie Xinlan had carried through with her threat. Or don’t, it just popped into my head. Up to you
Fourth: Rude
Fifth: I hate to say it but, those actions aren’t exactly uncommon and very unlike Xiaoyu’er, but I digress
Sixth: Y’all really gotta stop leaving your things on scene. What’re they called? Dark Jade Plum Blossom? Something like that, stop leaving them everywhere
Seventh: W e l p, there goes that friendship

I was tagged by @blackestglass for Heads Up, Seven Up, which is when you post the last seven sentences of your WIP and then tag 7 people to do the same! I actually have some new stuff written this week, thanks to being grabbed by that “stop what you’re doing and write 3 sentences” post that’s been going around. Thanks mainly to @wangxianbunnydoodles for catching me with that :P
This is from my Handsome Siblings OT3 fic (slightly more than 7 sentences, for context:
But when he thought about her leading Tie Xinlan astray, about her trying to poison Hua Wuque, he felt a poisonous rage rise up in his throat. She'd said it was on his behalf, but how could he love anyone who could hurt the people he loved best in this life? He looked down at their joined hands. "Su Ying is a remarkable woman," he admitted. "But she tried to hurt you both, and I don't think I can forgive that. Not enough to love her now."
"Even though it was for you?" Hua Wuque asked. He seemed genuinely curious.
"Especially because it was for me," Jiang Xiaoyu snapped. "If you want to do something for someone, shouldn't you check that they want it first?"
"You didn't check to see if I wanted to believe you were dead," Hua Wuque rejoined. There was a teasing lilt to his voice, but something shadowed lurked in his eyes.
I am tagging (no pressure - participate only if you want to!): @bot-romance, @bladedweaponsandswishycoats, @guqin-and-flute, @pumpkinpaix, @scarlettohairdye, @bimingjue, @val-mora

yes, among all the misery in this episode I noticed that Hua Wuque is sitting exactly like his brother and I find that adorableeee. I was already so proud of him when he tricked the ten great villains into bringing Tie Xinlan to him and all I could think was “he’s learned so well” while grinning like an idiot.

OH nostalgic feels! Legendary Twins (Animation) has the same lyrics from the Taiwanese TV series back in 1999 where Jimmy Lin and Alec Su as the lead roles!
And Tie Xinlan looks great in this donghua. She's more of a warrior this time around. <3
