Making

In response to researching Chuck close art I decided that I should explore this idea. I first got a portrait of me and layered a thumbprint over the top to create this outcome. I then drew this using fineliner pen linking it back to senses and sound maps at the start of this project. I explored manipulating these thumbprints portraits to represent different feelings and experiences. For example I used colours such as yellow pink green and blue and multicolour to convey feelings of happiness love nervousness and loyalty. I decided to use the colours patch and not fully covering the thumbprint so there is still the portrait coming through as this is an important part of my final outcome. I also further developed these thumbprints to be glitchy in different ways - effects of technology on humans and how not only do we have physical thumprints we also have technological ones and other ones too. Overall these explorations were really useful and something I will develop further.

Have you ever though whether your doomscrolling or podcast listening could be impacting the environment?

This ad campaign for ISP brand Belong is trying to make Australians think about exactly that. In the process the ad reinforces that this brand is carbon neutral and is therefore maybe a mild case of greenwashing? "Forget our prices and plans, we’re connecting you in ways that are green and clean”. 

The campaign’s many iterations and their placement go hand in hand with stats around how the user’s activity in the context is creating carbon emissions, but is that enough of a conversion push? It’s smart, and it helps that it’s fact-based by for many consumers, it’s likely not anywhere near enough have them reconsider the pricing, plans and other elements that typically influence their choice of ISP.

I will concede though, that there is something to preaching to the converted. You could a) remind existing customers they’ve made the right choice, or b) get green-minded consumers focused on doing right over price to make the switch. But still,meh.
