After the last post I basically spent all my free time re-reading, so here's a bit more thoughts and statistics on pet names in Temeraire, including the other aviator pairs, from the view of the aviators.
The one pet name that we get between Harcourt and Lily is 'dearest'. This is mentioned twice in 'His Majesty's Dragon', and twice again in 'Empire of Ivory'. At least two of those times are when Harcourt is fearing for Lily's life and in great distress. Unfortunately we see far too little of the pair together in later books, though there are some delightful tidbits about Lily and Harcourt's 'Egg'.
Berkley, in contrast seems to not have a set pet name for Maximus, but rather shows his affection through loving insults. In the first book we get the iconic 'great lummox' and 'great coward'. 'Lummox' is also back shortly at the beginning of Empire of Ivory as well as 'ridiculous lummox' and 'great mumping lummox' and wait, maybe there is a pattern!
In Blood of Tyrants the pair is back with 'damned lummox' and 'mannerless gobbler', Maximus is also delightfully often in Temeraire's narratives in the later books and cheerfully insulting Berkley's constitution. In general Berkley likes to lovingly complain about Maximus' appetite or manners, which is of course not at all ironic coming from the man.
Last of the original main squad I would be very much remiss in not also including Granby (called 'Dear Granby' even, one time by Temeraire in League of Dragons) and Iskierka.
While there are a few mentions of Granby adoringly calling her a nuisance, the one I love the most is in the end of 'Black Powder War', when directly after hatching, Granby aptly describes her as 'a proper terror'.
In direct address Granby almost always calls Iskierka 'dear one', which is at least once in every book. With the exception of 'Black Powder War', where he calls her 'dear creature'. There's also one sneaky Granby using 'dearest' in 'Tongues of Serpents', when he's trying to wiggle out of wearing the super ostentatious uniform.
Special mention to their talk towards the end of 'Crucible of Gold' where Granby finally sets some boundaries and it still feels like the most heartfelt endearment. "“The most splendid thing I am ever like to have,” ... “is a Kazilik dragon, dear one.", indeed.
#Temeraire#pet names and statistics#Aviator Squad Edition#I just love these six so much#it does not help that we often see them go through hell together#not quite sure if this also means that Laurence only sees them using pet names in emotional situations#or if he simply does not take note of them in normal conversation

𝟙𝟡𝟠𝟜: ℙ𝕒𝕘𝕖 𝟙𝟘𝟙
From Re-l's notebook a handwritten page can be seen in the first minutes of Meditatio I, those notes being:

flipping the image a few phrases can be read as: "The Party", "the legendary Brotherhood exist" "no way of coming together" "the force to destroy"
The source material is George Orwell's 1984, chapter I:
If there was hope, it must lie in the proles, because only there in those swarming disregarded masses, 85 per cent of the population of Oceania, could the force to destroy the Party ever be generated. The Party could not be overthrown from within. Its enemies, if it had any enemies, had no way of coming together or even of identifying one another. Even if the legendary Brotherhood existed, as just possibly it might, it was inconceivable that its members could ever assemble in larger numbers than twos and threes. Rebellion meant a look in the eyes, an inflexion of the voice, at the most, an occasional whispered word. But the proles, if only they could somehow become conscious of their own strength. would have no need to conspire...
𝚃𝚁𝙸𝙽𝙸𝚃𝚈
The parallels between The Matrix and Ergo Proxy are beyond the merely atmospheric. The similitude between their female protagonist, Re-L Mayer and Trinity, are quite popular domain in sci-fi fan circles. Not just the gothic-esque choice of black as main wardrobe color, but being essential for the main protagonist (Vincent Law and Thomas Anderson/Neo, respectively) who is also The One.
It's later revealed in both franchises that their female co-protagonist is essential in a long standing plan.
Meditatio I: Re-L pose for shooting an Enemy AI (an infected Armed AutoReiv)

The Matrix - 1999 Trinity's iconic "Dodge this!"
Almost 100 years have passed since the iconic scene from Sergei Eisenstein's 1925 silent film Battleship Potemkin, and the scene is still present in cinema tropes. There are thousand examples of versions of this scene:

The Potemkin Battleship - 1925
Meditatio II: the carriage of Raul Creed's Son
In Memory of Willie McCool
Willie McCool was an American naval officer and aviator, test pilot, aeronautical engineer, and NASA astronaut, who was the pilot of Space Shuttle Columbia mission STS-107. Willie and the rest of the crew of STS-107 were killed when Columbia disintegrated during reentry into the atmosphere.
He's mentioned on several screens throgout the series, as well as the statue made in his memory at Lubbok.
Meditatio III: The filler text is all about McCool.
As an extra: McCool favorite band was Radiohead. The song Fake Plastic Trees, was also used as a Wake Up Song during the STS-107 mission.
FOLLOW THE WHITE RABBIT
On Meditatio III, VIncent tries to escape the hellish network of tunnels, maintenance routes and underground spaces that hold Romdeau. He's aided by the charismatic, now Cogito infected, Auto-rave Pino, with her cute pink rabbit pijama, in a somewhat allusion to Alice in Wonderland's White Rabbit.

White Rabbit as depicted in John Tanniel's illustrated version of Alice in Wonderland - 1869
Meditatio III: Pino Leading Vincent using the escpae route of the infected autoraves
Pino is later seen reading Alice in Wonderland and Alice Underground.
Meditatio VIII: Illustrated coloured copy of Alice in Wonderland. Illustrations by John Tenniel. Tematically, on this episode the encounter the remains of dome Charos (ハロス). The humans inhabitants of Charos are consumed in a sanguinary conflict with the residents of their twin dome Asura, following the nonsensical commands of their respective Proxy, not very different to the way the commands of the Red Queen were nonsensical.
Meditatio XVI: Pino Reading Alice Underground
A Map of Historical Figures

On Romudo City, structural urban features receive the names of relevant historical writers and philosophers. The City is divided in at least nine sectors, several boreaughs, seven islands and the Mainland that holds the Central Tower of the Dome.
As seen in the city map, some streets, boroughs and parks are named after famous figures of western history, particularly literature and philosophy.
Due to the quality of the screen, a few of the names are not visible.
The most notable references are:
Rousseau Street as an homage to Jean Jacques Rousseau
Mainland Descartes as an homage to Rene Descartes
Machiavelli Road as an homage to Niccolo Machiavelli
Montesquieu Road, Louis Street, Charles Street and Secondat Street as a references to Charles Louis de Secondat, baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu
Schopenhauer Road as an homage to Arthur Schopenhauer
George Street intersecting Berkeley Street, as a reference to George Berkeley.
East Lentricchia borough Named after Frank Lentricchia
East McLaughlin borough (possibly named after Dean Benjamin McLaughlin, or his son Dean Benjamin McLaughlin, Jr.)
Giambattista Road intersecting Vico Street in honor of italian writer Giambattista Vico
The East Islands are named:
Island East Gottfried, Island East Wilhelm and Island East Leibnz in honor to Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz
The Film and the Public
Pino's unstoppable creativity is expressed on a drawing over one of Hoodie's book: The Film and the Public, written by Roger Manvell. The book aims to provide insights from both the filmmaker's and the audience's perspectives, making it a valuable resource for understanding the multifaceted nature of cinema in the mid-20th century. (That might explain some other references to XX century cinema)
Cruxified Snake
No copy of the book The Film and the Public I've seen have an illustration of a snake in a cross. That old alchemical and esoteric symbol is related to "fixing the volatile" and also The snake on the cross is a symbol of the crucifixion of Christ and the healing of sin.
Centzon Tōtōchtin

The ship that Pino and Vincent use to travel to Moscu is called "centzon tōtōchtin" or the 400 Rabbits, in reference to the aztec deities that are a group of divine rabbits who meet for frequent drunken parties.
Other minor characters in the series, particularly in Meditatio VIII have also names related to the deities.
Patecatl is the name of the commander of the fortress, whose people have been fighting for many generations with an army of self-reliant knights (they are called asuras).
Omacatl is the senior officer (lieutenant) of the fortress.
Mayahuel is a woman imprisoned in a prison (basement of a fortress) for her madness, in which she speaks of the moonlight, the “Master” and the impending fight.
On the myths:
Mayahuel – originally a goddess of fertility; patron of the drink octli, personification of the agave. From the marriage of Patecatl and Mayahuel were born the 400 rabbits.
Omacatl is the god of feasts and pleasures.
Patecatl – the god of healing, medicine, fertility and the alcoholic drink of agave, octli, the husband of Mayahuel.
Misquoting Victor Hugo
Just after rescuing Vincent and ten days after, Hoddie is reading aa book while quoting what he then attributes to the french poet Joë Bousquet:
Nothing there was a town, or a church, or a river, or a color, or a light, or a shadow. I kept still for a while and felt a pleasant sensation as the indescribable great harmony the brightness of the sky and the melancholy of the moment spread throughout my body.
But this is actually a quote from Victor Hugo's Voyage et Excursions : Nemours », Œuvres Complètes, t. 2
While he still insist that the book is from Joë Bousquet, it is actually Victor Hugo's
L'Homme qui Rit :D
Victor Hugo's The Man Who Laughs, as seen in Meditatio IIII
The Man who Laughs is the story of Gwynplaine, who has a disfigured face and is torned between the society's expectation and his true nature.
The book has many adaptations over the years, but notably 1928's was the mos influential one, particularly for Conrad Veidt's performance as Gwynplaine.

Conrad Veidt's Gwynplaine. 1928
Among other things it inspired The Joker, from DC Comics, and also the Original Design of Ergo Proxy...

Ergo Proxy as seen in the Pilot Trailer
A House of Cards
Just as in the illustrations of John Tenniel previously showed, the cards that unveil at the End of Meditatio VIII are all spades
Is this a good hand?
Note: Spades are associated with mental struggles in minor arcana.
Kaskis pulls out a Joker card, conveniently similar to Ergo Proxy . Meditatio VIII
ₜₕₑ ₜᵣᵢₚₗₑ Gₒddₑₛₛ?
On the decoration of Charos Dome, the symbol of the city closely resembles the mark of the Triple Goddess, a lunar female deity with interesting nexus with Robert Graves' studies on religious archetypes and myths of Europe.
Senekis being the "Agent of the Moonlight" is strongly associated with the moon.
Meditatio VIII
Drifting into the Attack
This is a quite obscure one, from Meditatio XI and I actually can't find the proper source to this one. My main suspect is that is a reference of a song played by Allan Holdsworth and Gary Husband on a live presentation at 1982. Here is a youtube link into the song.
In the Left corner there's a book titled "Drifting into the Attack"
Allan Holdsworth appears later on a text wall on Meditatio XVII, that quotes an article about the musician from All About Jazz.
Beyond his ability in improvising mercurial solos and sculpting the guitar's voice into an ever-expanding range of textures and colors, Holdsworth has dedicated his energies to develop many different aspects of guitar technology. This has included new “baritone” variations of the instrument, his own custom 6-string designs (one most recently manufactured by Carvin), the invention of electronic components for the recording studio, and exploring the possibilities of guitar-based synthesizer controllers. Holdworth's ability to improvise over complex and challenging chord voicings always reveals a deep emotional base and a strong, imaginative personality that is as instantly identifiable as any among Holdsworth's generation of guitar and jazz masters.
RE-L 124C41+
Re-L Mayer current version is named as 124C41+ in reference to Hugo Gernsback's novel Ralph 124C 41+: A Romance of the Year 2660, written in 1911.
This if the Fake Death Certificate of Re-L Mayer as shown on Meditatio VII
NOTE: There's a problem with the visualization of the Street name list.

This Girl

Moodboard by: @mshistorylover
Pairing: Pairing: Mickey Fanboy” Garcia x Fem!Aviator!Reader, based on the song, This Girl by Hunter Hayes.
Summary: Mickey and Y/N have been dating for eight months but haven’t expressed their love in those famous three words. They confide in friends for advice and courage, culminating in Mickey dedicating a song to Y/N during a karaoke night.
Sequel to “Addicted to Love”
—————————————————————————
Eight months into their relationship, Mickey Garcia and Y/N had formed a bond that neither of them could deny. They were deeply in love, but the words they longed to say remained unspoken, hanging in the air between them like a sweet, tantalizing secret.
Mickey, known for his charismatic personality and unwavering dedication to flying, had found someone who captured his heart in ways he couldn’t have imagined. Y/N, with her infectious laughter and unwavering support, had become the missing piece to Mickey’s adventurous life.
One sunny afternoon at the Top Gun Academy, Mickey found himself in the company of his close friends from the Dagger Squad, including Rooster, Hangman, Coyote, Bob, and Payback. They had gathered on the Academy’s rooftop, a quiet and serene spot overlooking the airstrips. The clear blue skies stretched endlessly before them, offering a sense of peace amidst the rigorous training and challenges they faced.
Mickey took a deep breath, looking out at the horizon as his friends sat in a circle, sipping on their beverages. He couldn’t help but let out a sigh, prompting Rooster to raise an eyebrow. “Everything okay, Mickey?” He shifted his gaze to his friends, a hint of uncertainty in his eyes. “You guys know I’ve been with Y/N for a while now,” he began, his voice tinged with emotion. “But I haven’t told her that I love her, and it’s driving me crazy. I don’t want her to think it’s too soon or that I’m not serious.” His friends exchanged knowing glances, realizing the weight of Mickey’s unspoken words. Jake leaned forward, his voice supportive. “Dude, you’ve got to tell her how you feel. It’s the only way she’ll know.”
Meanwhile, not far from the rooftop gathering, Y/N found herself sharing her thoughts with her closest friends since their Academy days, Natasha “Phoenix” Trace and Callie “Halo” Bassett. They sat under the shade of a tree near the dock, the gentle rustling of leaves providing a soothing backdrop to their conversation. Y/N spoke softly, her eyes reflecting the vulnerability she felt. “You know, I care about Mickey so much,” she confessed. “But I’m scared to say it. What if it’s too soon, or what if he doesn’t feel the same way?” Natasha and Callie exchanged understanding glances, their support unwavering. Natasha offered comforting words. “Sometimes, Y/N, you have to take a chance and let your heart speak. You’ll regret it if you never tell him.”
As the sun cast a warm glow over the Academy, both Mickey and Y/N carried the weight of their unspoken feelings, unsure of when and how to bridge the gap between their hearts. Despite their shared love and deep connection, Mickey and Y/N had yet to find the right moment to express their feelings. Each passing day only intensified their longing, and they began to seek solace in the advice of their friends.
—————————————————————————
As the weeks went by, a unique opportunity presented itself at the Top Gun Academy. It was a warm summer evening, and the Hard Deck, the iconic bar owned by Penny Benjamin, was hosting a lively gathering. This was a rare moment of respite for the pilots, a chance to relax and unwind in a setting that held a special place in their hearts. The Hard Deck buzzed with laughter and camaraderie. The bar’s rustic charm, adorned with aviation memorabilia, added to the atmosphere. Penny, a familiar face to all, greeted everyone with a warm smile and a sense of belonging.
The Dagger Squad and Y/N’s friends from the Academy found themselves together at a corner table, enjoying the vibrant ambiance. As the evening progressed, Mickey couldn’t help but glance at Y/N, who sat across from him, her eyes sparkling with mirth as she shared stories with Natasha and Callie. Payback, sensing his friend’s internal struggle, leaned in and nudged Mickey gently. “Tonight’s the night, buddy,” he whispered. “You’ve got to tell her.” Mickey nodded, his determination growing. “You’re right. I can’t let fear hold me back.” Meanwhile, on the other side of the room, Y/N sat amidst her friends, feeling Mickey’s presence as a comforting beacon. She took a deep breath and glanced at Natasha and Callie, who exchanged encouraging smiles.
As the night went on, Penny decided to host a karaoke competition, a surprise twist to the evening’s festivities. The crowd erupted with excitement, and friends egged each other on to participate. Mickey’s heart raced as he realized this could be the perfect opportunity. He leaned over to his friends, a determined look on his face. “I’m going up there,” he declared. Rooster, Hangman, Coyote, Bob, and Payback exchanged knowing glances and offered Mickey their full support. “Go for it, dude!” they chorused.
On the small stage, Mickey took a moment to compose himself, his heart pounding with anticipation. The spotlight bathed him in its warm glow as he looked out at the audience. He cleared his throat and adjusted the microphone, feeling the weight of the moment. Before he began singing “This Girl” by Hunter Hayes, Mickey spoke into the microphone, his voice filled with emotion. “I want to dedicate this song to someone very special. To the one who’s stolen my heart and made every moment unforgettable. Y/N, this one’s for you. Hopefully this song tells you how I feel about you.”
His heartfelt dedication hung in the air, reaching Y/N like a warm embrace from across the room. Her heart skipped a beat as she gazed at him, feeling a rush of love and gratitude. With that dedication, Mickey poured his heart and soul into the song, making it a truly unforgettable moment for both of them.
He began to sing the familiar lyrics of “This Girl” by her favorite artist, Hunter Hayes, pouring his heart into every word. The room seemed to fade away, leaving only Mickey and his heartfelt message.
🎶 “I love this girl watching that throwback movie with a glass of wine,
My real deal girl with her hair up, guard down
Telling me what’s on her mind
Call me crazy, but I don’t think I’m
Ever gonna have a hard time learning how to love this girl.” 🎶
As he sang, Mickey’s eyes locked onto Y/N’s, and she couldn’t tear her gaze away from him. The connection between them felt stronger than ever as the room filled with the sincerity of his words.
🎶 “My paradise is that bedhead beauty with the sleepy eyes
My best night is anyone that ends with her
Yeah, I swear that I'd trade everything I chase
They could take it all away
Long as I get to love this girl.” 🎶
Mickey’s voice soared through the room, and as the final notes hung in the air, he stepped down from the stage, his heart pounding with hope and anticipation. The applause that followed Mickey’s performance was thunderous, and his friends from the Dagger Squad cheered for him with pride. Mickey, however, had only one person on his mind as he navigated through the crowd to where his girlfriend stood in the crowd. He couldn’t wait any longer to express what had been in his heart for so long.
Reaching her side, Mickey gently took her hand and looked deeply into her eyes. The world around them seemed to blur as he began to speak, his voice filled with emotion. “I love you, Y/N.” Her eyes welled up with tears of joy as a radiant smile spread across her face. She had been waiting to hear those words for what felt like an eternity. With a voice choked with emotion, she whispered, “I love you too, Mickey.”
In that tender moment, their unspoken words had finally found their voice. Their love was now out in the open, stronger than ever. Without hesitation, Mickey cupped Y/N’s face in his hands, and they shared a passionate kiss, sealing their love with a promise of a future filled with adventure, support, and boundless affection. Their friends couldn’t have been happier for them. The room erupted in applause once again, with their fellow pilots and Academy friends celebrating their newfound happiness. As the night continued at the Hard Deck, Mickey and Y/N danced together, reveling in the newfound freedom to express their love openly. The Dagger Squad and their friends watched with affectionate smiles, knowing that this was a moment to cherish.

Jimmy Stewart & Post-Traumatic Stress-Months after winning his 1941 Academy Award for best actor in “The Philadelphia Story,” Jimmy Stewart, left Hollywood and joined the US Army. He was the first big-name movie star to enlist in World War II. An accomplished private pilot, the 33-year-old Hollywood icon became a US Army Air Force aviator, earning his 2nd Lieutenant commission in early 1942. With his celebrity status, he was assigned to attending rallies and training younger pilots. Stewart, however, wasn’t satisfied. He wanted to fly combat missions. By 1944, frustrated and feeling the war was passing him by, he asked his commanding officer to transfer him to a unit deploying to Europe. His request was reluctantly granted. Stewart, now a Captain, was sent to England, where he spent the next 18 months flying B-24 Liberator bombers over Germany. Top brass tried to keep the popular movie star from flying over enemy territory. But Stewart would hear nothing of it. Determined to lead by example, he assigned himself to every combat mission he could. By the end of the war he was one of the most respected and decorated pilots in his unit. But his wartime service came at a high personal price. In the final months of WWII he was grounded for being “flak happy,” today called Post Traumatic Stress (PTS). When he returned to the US in August 1945, Stewart was a changed man. He had lost so much weight that he looked sickly. He rarely slept, and when he did he had nightmares of planes exploding and men falling through the air screaming (in one mission alone his unit had lost 13 planes and 130 men, most of whom he knew personally). He was depressed, couldn’t focus, and refused to talk to anyone about his war experiences. His acting career was all but over. As one of Stewart’s biographers put it, “Every decision he made [during the war] was going to preserve life or cost lives. He took back to Hollywood all the stress that he had built up.” In 1946 he got his break. He took the role of George Bailey, the suicidal father in “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Actors and crew of the set realized that in many of the disturbing scenes of George Bailey unraveling in front of his family, Stewart wasn’t acting. His PTSD was being captured on film for millions to see. But despite Stewart’s inner turmoil, making the movie was therapeutic for the combat veteran. He would go on to become one of the most accomplished and loved actors in American history. When asked in 1941 why he wanted to leave his acting career to fly combat missions over Nazi Germany, he said, “This country’s conscience is bigger than all the studios in Hollywood put together, and the time will come when we’ll have to fight.” This holiday season, as many of us watch the classic Christmas film, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” it’s also a fitting time to remember the sacrifices of those who gave up so much to serve their country during wartime.

Who Invented Big Airplanes: The Minds Behind the Giants of the Sky

Do you know how the big airplanes were invented? It's a fascinating story that spans decades of innovation, engineering breakthroughs, and sheer determination. Big airplanes, also known as large aircraft models, have become a cornerstone of modern aviation, revolutionizing how we travel and connect with the world. But who were the brilliant minds that brought these aviation models to life?

The journey of the big airplane model began in the early 20th century when aviation pioneers first dreamed of creating aircraft that could carry more passengers and cargo over longer distances. It was a time of intense experimentation and competition, with inventors and engineers racing to build the next big thing in aviation.

One of the key figures in the invention of big airplanes was Igor Sikorsky. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1889, Sikorsky was an aviation visionary who designed the world’s first multi-engine airplane, the Russky Vityaz, in 1913. This aircraft model was groundbreaking because it demonstrated that it was possible to create a large airplane model with multiple engines, which was essential for carrying heavier loads and flying longer distances. The success of the Russky Vityaz paved the way for the development of even larger aircraft, leading to Sikorsky’s later designs, like the Ilya Muromets, which became the world’s first four-engine bomber.

But Sikorsky wasn’t alone in his quest to build big airplanes. In the United States, Donald Wills Douglas Sr. played a crucial role in the evolution of large airplane models. Douglas founded the Douglas Aircraft Company in 1921, and it wasn’t long before his company became synonymous with innovation in aviation. One of the most significant contributions from Douglas was the DC-3, introduced in 1935. This airplane model revolutionized air travel with its ability to carry 21 passengers in comfort, a feat previously unheard of in commercial aviation. The DC-3 set the standard for modern aircraft and remains one of the most iconic aviation models ever created.

Another major milestone in the history of big airplanes came with the Boeing 747, often referred to as the "Queen of the Skies." The 747 was the brainchild of Joe Sutter, an engineer at Boeing, who led the team that designed this enormous aircraft. First flown in 1969, the Boeing 747 was a true game-changer, capable of carrying more than 400 passengers across the globe. This large airplane model not only made international travel more accessible but also solidified Boeing’s position as a leader in the aviation industry. The 747 remains one of the most successful aircraft models, with variants still flying today.

These early innovators laid the groundwork for the modern giants of the sky we see today. Today, the Airbus A380 holds the title of the largest passenger airplane model ever built. Introduced in 2007, the A380 can carry over 800 passengers in an all-economy configuration. The development of this behemoth required a multinational effort, with teams from across Europe contributing to its design and construction. The A380 represents the pinnacle of what large airplane models can achieve, offering unparalleled capacity and comfort for long-haul flights.
The invention of big airplanes wasn’t just about building larger aircraft; it was about pushing the boundaries of what was possible in aviation. These pioneers didn’t just create bigger planes; they created new opportunities for people to connect, explore, and experience the world in ways that were once unimaginable.
As aviation continues to evolve, the legacy of those who invented big airplanes lives on. From Sikorsky’s early experiments to the modern marvels of Boeing and Airbus, these aircraft models have forever changed the face of travel. So the next time you board a flight, take a moment to appreciate the incredible history behind the big airplane model that’s carrying you to your destination. The sky’s the limit, thanks to the visionaries who dared to dream big.

Are Old Planes Safe to Fly?— A Look into the Reliability of Vintage Aircraft Models

Have you ever seen a vintage airplane model fly and wondered, "Are old planes safe to fly?" The sight of these classic aviation models gracefully soaring through the sky can evoke a mix of nostalgia and admiration. Yet, it also raises questions about the safety of flying aircraft that have been around for decades.

The vintage airplane models lies in their historical importance and timeless design. These aircraft models represent an era when aviation was still in its infancy, and each flight was a pioneering adventure. However, the reality of flying these older planes in today's world requires careful consideration.

One key factor in determining the safety of old planes is the rigorous maintenance they undergo. Unlike modern aircraft, which are designed with advanced technology and materials, vintage airplane models rely heavily on regular inspections and meticulous upkeep. Owners and operators of these planes are often passionate about their aircraft, dedicating countless hours to ensuring that every component is in top condition. This attention to detail is critical because the safety of an old airplane models hinges on the reliability of its parts, many of which may no longer be in production and need to be custom-made or sourced from specialized suppliers.
Moreover, the regulatory environment for old planes are strict. Aviation authorities, such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), impose strict guidelines on the operation of vintage aircraft models. These regulations ensure that only planes that meet specific safety standards are allowed to take to the skies. This means that an old airplane model must pass the same rigorous checks as a modern aircraft before it can be deemed airworthy. The pilots flying these planes are also subject to special certifications, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to handle these unique aircraft models safely.

However, flying a vintage airplane model is not without its challenges. These aircraft were built in a different era, using materials and techniques that may not match the durability and performance of today's standards. For example, older engines may not be as fuel-efficient or powerful as modern ones, which could impact the plane's overall performance. Additionally, the aerodynamics of some old planes may not be as refined, making them more challenging to handle, especially in adverse weather conditions.

Despite these challenges, many aviation enthusiasts argue that old planes can be just as safe as their modern counterparts when properly maintained and operated. The key lies in understanding the limitations of these aircraft models and respecting the knowledge that has been passed down through generations of pilots and engineers. Flying a vintage airplane is not about getting from point A to point B—it's about preserving a piece of aviation history and experiencing the joy of flight in the early days of aviation.
In fact, some vintage airplane models have become iconic in their own right, celebrated for their unique design and historical significance. Aircraft models like the Douglas DC-3, the Boeing Stearman, and the Piper Cub are beloved by pilots and aviation enthusiasts. These planes have earned their place in the annals of aviation history, and their continued operation is a testament to the dedication of those who keep them flying.

So, are old planes safe to fly? The answer is that with the right care, expertise, and respect for the aircraft's heritage, they can be. Vintage airplanes represent more than just a mode of transportation—they are living pieces of history, connecting us to the golden age of aviation. For those who appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of these aircraft models, the joy of seeing them take flight is worth the extra effort to ensure their safety. Whether you're an aviation enthusiast or just someone who admires the grace of these old planes, there's something truly special about watching a piece of history roaming the skies in todays world.

Bishop takes Rook (a pre Black Ops 6 Story)
ao3
Directing his attention back from the room to the chessboard before him, Adler now raised a hand to make his move. On the opposite side of the stage from where the pair were seated one of the staff members near the giant board, upon placing down a pair of binoculars, reached for the cutout of a white bishop and moved it diagonally upwards - replacing the position of the black rook before it.
The audience visibly stirred.
“Bishop takes Rook.” he heard the younger woman murmur under her breath, her mouth set in a firm line as Adler moved a finger to press down on his side of the Fischer clock. Chewing her bottom lip, Bell now turned her attention towards her one remaining rook and king.
“I should tell you Adler, survival is now the main priority of ours now. Her eyes now flicked upwards, gaze directed at Adler as she switched the positions of the aforementioned two pieces with ease. “My job is to do anything to make sure it stays that way.”
AU in which Adler - on the run from the CIA - goes undercover as a competitive chess player where he is made to play a match against a ghost from his past in front of a live studio audience.
In the spirit of respecting those who have yet to play Black Ops 6 (it has only been a week since its release as of this post) this fic will be spoiler free. So go ahead and read to your hearts content 😊
song recommendation (this song slaps ok and for some reason in my head it fits really well don't come @ me lmao) :
Russell Adler
Moscow, Union of Social Socialist Republics
20 March 1990 - 10:00 MSK
Seated at the back of the state-provided saloon car, Adler watched as the huge crowd gathered consisting of the media, adoring fans and curious onlookers alike appeared in the horizon, the once small black blob was now becoming discernibly larger as the vehicle drew closer to its destination. Retrieving a cigarette and his zippo from inside his suit, Adler rolled down the window on his side before lighting the nicotine stick and taking a long drag from it, watching the evidence of his vice float out into the open and vanish from sight.
The speedy little devil that was the maroon coloured automobile sped down the remainder of a seemingly vacant highway before making a sharp right turn, parking itself right before the end of the pavement in what only could be described as in a cartoonish fashion. Opposite stood a building sporting gothic style architecture and right above the pair of twin wooden doors that marked the entrance was a huge banner with the Cyrillic Words ‘Annual Soviet Chess Championship, Moscow’ accompanied by the silhouette icon of a knight chess piece. As soon as he opened the door and stepped out onto the red carpet the flash photography and videographers came into full swing, all of which he had expected at such an event. He was however pleasantly surprised by the cordiality of everyone else around - not once had any member of the public rushed up to him in an attempt to take a photo or sign an autograph. For that Adler was grateful, as the last thing he needed as an rogue agent was close up pictures of his face taken for the world to see. He had changed his aviators and hairstyle in a fashion that he would still be unrecognisable in pictures and videos taken from afar, but any closer and he ran the risk of being identified.
Though he never liked any of the countries behind the iron curtain (for more than just ideological reasons) he was begrudgingly grateful for the match to be taking place in Moscow of all places. Had it been Hollywood or any other western country it would have been a completely different story, and it would have been much harder for him to remain inconspicuous for long given the strong alliance the authorities had with the United States.
Adler made his way into the building with haste and after a quick pat down was escorted by a member of staff to a nearby sitting room to wait for his registration to be confirmed. In this building he was no longer Russell Adler, the framed CIA operative but Lev Balashov, a former KGB agent and aspiring holder of the ranking of Candidate Master in his hobby of competitive chess. Adler only knew of his existence thanks to Belikov, whom he contacted before entry into Moscow. Despite the former's defection, Belikov still knew people on the inside and not only managed to arrange the necessary papers to get Adler into the country, but also gave the former clandestine officer the profile of the man he was to replace.
“Why him of all people?”
“Because my friend, Balashov is a notorious recluse. Only a handful of people have seen his face and they will most definitely not be present at the tournament because he has beaten them all to get to where he currently is.”
“And you are certain that she will be there.”
“Most certainly. Her injuries post Solovestky were serious, so I reckon she is currently taking a much needed break from the field.”
Adler was rudely pulled away from his trip down memory lane upon hearing a member of staff at the door of his assigned dressing room calling out his alias name.
“Mr Balashov? The tournament you are scheduled to participate in will begin in 90 minutes.”
Adler nodded in acknowledgement and after requesting for a cup of coffee, proceeded to light another cigarette as soon as the staff member’s back was turned. He allowed his mind to drift back to her; he had always wondered how she had been doing after all those years. He remembered the surprise he felt upon realising that she had survived what was supposed to be a fatal shot - one which he justified to himself was done out of mercy. It had been sheer luck that she had not gone insane already after being exposed to the many rounds of MK-Ultra, and figured that it was only a matter of time before that would come to fruition.
No doubt she will be livid upon seeing his face again, but for the sake of the free world he was willing to take the brunt of her anger.
Adler chuckled mirthlessly to himself as the familiar smell of arabica wafted into the room. There was no longer a point in reminiscing about what could have been or the many questions he had repeatedly asked the imaginary figment of her in his head - for now he has the privilege of hearing the answers to all his unanswered questions straight from the horse's mouth.
.
.
.
.
.
When it was time, Adler was escorted out of the dressing room and backstage where he was made to listen to what seemed to be the announcer presenting the current tournament lineup of the day in Russian through a set of thick curtains. As soon as he heard his alias name being announced he stepped forward and into the limelight in front of the adoring crowd. Giving a half-hearted wave, Adler made his way to his designated seat, where the nameplate “L. Balashov” was placed facing the audience, along with a small table red coloured flag of the Soviet Union. In the centre of the ornate wooden table that was to serve as the mental battlefield for the next few hours lay a wooden chess set, pieces already put into place.
Another round of applause now sounded and from the opposite end of the stage came his opponent - a Miss Yelizaveta Ivlev. Dressed in a simple dark blue dress and a pair of pearl-studded earrings, Ivlev walked across the stage with a small smile, waving her hand towards the audience cheerfully. She then turned to her side with the intention of greeting her opponent when she realised who it was. Adler noted that Ivlev was careful not to let any shock show on her face and the only indicator she gave as to knowing his true identity was the small drop to her beautiful smile, perhaps in part due to the sheer number of cameras around recording both players' first encounter with each other.
Ivlev’s eyes flicked downwards to look at her opponent's name plate. “Mr Balashov. A pleasure meeting you.” She simply nodded her head, tone slightly harsher than normally how an introduction should entail. “The pleasure is all mine.” replied Adler, playing along.
Once both players took to their respective seats, Ivlev picked up the black velvet pouch that sat inconspicuously towards the right side of their shared table right next to the Fischer clock. Shaking it slightly, she allowed its contents to drop into the palm of her hand: a single coin.
“Heads or tails?”
“Heads.” Adler now watched as the rounded object flipped in midair and landed once again into the safety of her palm. “Looks like you get to pick the colour, Mr Balashov.”
Adler’s eyes now flipped back to the chessboard with disinterest. “I don’t mind keeping it the way it is now.”
“Very good.” Ivlev now turned her head and made eye contact with a member of staff, nodding her head as she did so. This prompted the staff member to walk over to their table, giving it a quick once over before walking over to a giant board - in which a replica of the current chessboard configuration has been made - and writing down the names of both players in the blackboard above.
White – L. Balashov
Black – Y. Ivlev
“Shall we begin?” Ivlev’s voice prompted Adler to once again focus on the woman currently sitting in front of him bearing a deceptively neutral look on her face. Adler did not respond, choosing to proffer out a hand to her instead which she accepted.
For a third time, a round of applause thundered around the auditorium. But Adler wasn’t paying attention to any of it, for his eyes were currently on his actual prize - the sole reason why he was here in the first place.
.
.
.
.
.
Truth to be told, sitting in this auditorium, Adler felt like a fish out of water - and it has been a while since he had experienced such a feeling. Though he played the game occasionally and knew the basic rules and moves, he knew that he was widely unprepared to be playing in such a professional environment. Still, he has come too far to fail now - he will achieve his objective by hook or by crook.
Despite his limited understanding of the game, Adler knew that being able to take control of the middle was vital for eventual victory - the player that controls the centre has the best vantage attack point on the rest of their opponents pieces. With this in mind, Adler’s opening move was to move his pawn to d4. Ivlev responded by moving her knight to F6. Seeing her motive, he pushed another of his pawns to c4. Where is she going with this? Seemingly unfazed, Ivlev simply moved her pawn to e6. She really is that insistent on wanting my d4 pawn huh. Adler now brought forward his knight to c3 in hopes that it would deter his opponent from their current objective but instead what it did was embolden Ivlev to bring forward her bishop to b4, effectively not only threatening his knight (and in turn the king) but also preventing Adler from taking control of the centre by moving his one of his other pawns from e2 to e4.
It took a while for Adler to realise what Ivlev had just done: the Nimzo-Indian defence. In his rush to control the centre, not only had he given away his strategy early on, but placed Ivlev in a position to not only develop her pieces earlier but also play them aggressively should she so choose, possibly gaining potential control over the centre as the game progresses on.
“Interesting that you didn’t open using the queen’s gambit.” Ivlev suddenly remarked, possibly in response to Adler’s surprise. “You are a habitual gambler, no? And very apt at giving away your pawns when needed. Frankly I’m quite surprised to see you here. I thought you were all brawn and no brains, just like the CIA lapdog you once formerly were.” Ivlev’s voice could only be fittingly described as a sheet of ice - calm on the surface, but arguably emotionally tumultuous underneath.
“Formerly?” Adler raised an eyebrow as he moved another one of his pawns to a3. As Ivlev focused on her next move Adler waved his hand up in the air, making a motion with his hand for a cigarette. “What makes you say that?”
“I might be physically out of the field, but it doesn’t mean I am out of the loop information wise.” Ivlev now tutted as she moved her bishop to take his pawn. “Also, you are not as subtle as you think you are.”
Their conversation came to a temporary halt with the arrival of said item - a cigar surprisingly - balancing precariously along its edges of an unused ashtray. “You mind?” asked Adler rhetorically as he placed the item between his lips, flicking the cap of the provided zippo open. Ivlev simply snorted back in amusement, shaking her head. Taking a much needed drag of nicotine, he now moved his own pawn to take Ivlev’s bishop. “It seems that word travels fast. Either that or you have been keeping tabs on me….Bell.” Adler saw the woman’s composure break slightly at the mention of that name, her body physically tensing up.
“Don’t test your luck here, Russell Adler. We are being live streamed for the whole of the Soviet Union to see; I could unmask your identity right here and you will be arrested by the KGB within a few minutes.” Sensing the man’s scepticism, Bell elaborated. “The USSR has changed over these past 10 years - especially since our little stunt in the Lubyanka Building. Now with some of the Eastern Bloc Republics expressing disillusionment, the Motherland is ramping up efforts to keep the collectivist culture and ideology alive.”
Adler hummed in acquiescence. “So why didn’t you do that from the very beginning?” he now asked, to which Bell elected not to respond.
.
.
.
.
.
The game dragged on for longer than expected. The silence in the room changed from being comforting to suffocating, save the occasional cough from a spectator and the constant ticking of the Fischer clock near his right elbow. From the corner of his eye Adler watched some of the moderators and judges fidget in their seats as did some members of the audience, who by his standards were doing rather well in keeping their impatience at bay given the games seemingly lack of progress.
Though not one to always practise what he preached, Adler could appreciate the art of patience - many years of being in intelligence taught him the value of it. Besides, it was good to exercise that brain of his once in a while - even if admittedly he would have preferred being out in the field shooting at something or someone instead.
“Why did you shoot me at Solovetsky, Adler?” Bell asked abruptly, eyes never leaving the board or the pieces before them. Ah, the inevitable question that needs to be answered. Adler opened his mouth to respond, but realised that the words he had rehearsed in his head were now stuck at the back of his throat. Did he actually want to tell her the truth? Was there even a point in lying at this stage regarding all that happened 10 years ago? “And please don’t lie, that would be extremely low of you to do so. The least you owe me is the truth in that regard.”
“I don’t owe you jack shit, Bell. I did what I had to do for my country.”
“The country that now turned its back on you when you were clearly framed?”
“So you believe that I’m innocent.” Adler saw an opportunity to deflect and gladly took it. Bell simply laughed in response. “Russell Adler, willing traitor of the CIA in exchange for blood money? Not your style, and certainly not your modus operandi.” Bell moved another of her pieces and like clockwork pressed down the button on her side, folding her hands on the table before her afterwards. “Humour me, Adler. You clearly want something from me - that’s why you are here playing a chess game for the past 3 hours, no?”
Adler took a puff of what was now his 5th cigar, tapping it at its end as more black flakes dropped into the ever growing pile of grey in the middle of the ashtray before setting it down in favour of moving his piece. “It was supposed to be a mercy kill.” There, this was as close to the truth as he could master. When one lies on a regular basis as part of the job requirement, suddenly telling the truth becomes a tall order indeed.
“Who did you take me for, A chained up dog? One you can just simply get rid of as soon as the work gets done? Even the process of euthanasia has rules and guidelines and doing that with your reasoning fails the eligibility criteria!” Bell took a deep breath in, before her calm mask of composure returned once more. “Give me one good reason why I should work with you now after what you have done.”
“I don’t have to. Clearly your handlers see a mutually beneficial outcome by us working together: if not you would not be up here with me right now.” Adler smirked. “Your handlers are the two men seated at your 4 o'clock, are they not? I’m frankly surprised Perseus took you back after all the shit that went down, how we thwarted their plans and all.”
“I’m frankly quite surprised too. And grateful.” Adler could hear from her voice that the sentiments were genuine. “Враг моего врага - мой друг”.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Their previous campaign against Perseus in the 80s must have set them back quite a bit; to the point that they feel threatened by simply the presence of another prominent paramilitary group. But why Perseus and this particular group are antagonistic towards one another is something that Adler mentally stored in his head as needing to be further investigated upon.
“Now that we are on the same page, I’m going to give you a code phrase that you must keep to yourself until the time comes.” Directing his attention back from the room to the chessboard before him, Adler now raised a hand to make his move.
“I understand.” was all Adler simply responded with ease. He could easily read between the lines, and he knew that a cornered animal is always a dangerous one - not that he was currently in the position to corner them any further anyway. The subconscious weight he had been carrying left him both physically and mentally. With his objective now fulfilled, he could finally fully focus on playing regularly just as he was sure Balashov would have if the latter were currently in his shoes.
.
.
.
.
.
After another tedious hour of nothing but back and forths, the match was eventually brought to a standstill and declared inconclusive by the panel of judges present. Despite the outcome of the match not being significant Adler, it was mostly out of professional pride that he refused to withdraw after getting what he needed - besides, It would have been the same thing the real Balashov would have done after all.
As soon as the panel made the results of their judgements known, the media personnel, who were no doubt restless and itching to move after the tiresome four hour long match, seemingly leapt up from their seats like people possessed and approached both players with their endless barrage of questions. This was promptly ignored by both Bell and Adler as they made their way backstage unscathed thanks to the diligence of the security personnel present.
“Stay here.” Adler broke the silence between them as he led Bell into his dressing room, closing the door behind him and he swept the room for cameras. Once he determined that they were not being watched, he opened his bag and from it revealed a nondescript looking file which he passed to Bell promptly. “Everything you and your handlers need to know about the organisation I am tracking is here. I’m presuming your handlers would know more about them though than I, given Perseus’s implied history with them.”
The woman opened the folder and stared at the papers inside unimpressed. “There’s nothing much to go on.”
“I know. They are very good at infiltration; I believe they have multiple moles in the CIA. Elusive fuckers, they have already dug their claws in deep which is how they were able to produce fake irrefutable evidence of my so-called betrayal. Mason and Hudson are dead because of them.”
Bell’s face fell slightly. She wasn’t Hudson’s biggest fan, but she and Mason did share an amicable relationship. The latter was someone she actually enjoyed having conversations with, so it was sad to know of his fate. “Mason has a son right? What’s going to happen to him?”
Adler looked up at Bell grimly. “I don’t know. I can only hope he will be well cared for by the state, or whoever Mason had placed as the next of kin.” The duo continued to look at each other, either side seemingly hesitant for the conversation to continue or their time together to end for that manner. Perhaps they knew that they eventually needed to discuss what happened at Solovetsky and both sides are reluctant to bring that up; or maybe because this is the first time they have seen each other face to face in five years, and the feeling of seeing someone who had attempted to brainwash you (Bell) or was a ghost from your past (Adler) standing in the same room as you in the flesh was simply…overwhelming.
Luckily for Adler, the awkward silence was eventually broken when Bell’s phone rang. Adler watched as the woman removed a flip phone from her pocket and answered it with much haste - a call from her handlers, no doubt.
“ I’m currently in contact with him, he’s passed me a file with the information we need. Are you sure - yes, Comrade, at once.” Bell placed the phone back into her pocket. “Change of plans. You are coming with me.” Adler raised an eyebrow in genuine surprise. “What do your handlers want with me?”
Bell shrugged. “I will go get my purse from my dressing room; they said to meet us outside in five.” And with those words, Adler watched the once timid and non-verbal woman now exited the dressing room with her head held high. Feeling the man’s gaze on her, Bell turned around abruptly once more with a gaze which sent an involuntary shiver down the older man's spine.
“C’mon Adler, don’t dawdle. After all, we've got a job to do.”

The Air Force of the Republic of Korea (RoKAF) has officially retired its F-4E Phantom II fighter fleet, marking the end of an era in the history of the country's military aviation. For about a month, the retirement of the iconic combat jets generated a series of beautiful images in flight over South Korea.
The retirement ceremony, held at the 10ª Fighter Wing in Suwon, Gyeonggi province, was attended by the Minister of National Defense, Shin Won-sik, and featured the final flight of two F-4E jets. Ten Phantom II were operational to date, marking the end of the 55 years of F-4D/E operations at RoKAF.
The ceremony, which took place on Friday (07/06), included commemorative flights of a series of modern fighters, such as the F-16, KF-16, FA-50, RF-16, F-15K and F-35A, symbolizing the transition from air defense duties to newer aircraft. These demonstrations highlighted South Korea's ongoing commitment to maintaining a robust and modern air force.
In his remarks, Minister Shin reflected on the history of the Phantom and its impact on the defense capabilities of South Korea. "The noble spirit of the Phantom, dedicated to safeguarding South Korea's airspace, will remain with us forever," said Shin, emphasizing the role of the aircraft in achieving air superiority over North Korea.

The ceremony also paid tribute to the pilots and patriots who sacrificed their lives in the service of the country. This dark moment highlighted the deep respect and gratitude felt by those who operated and maintained the F-4 Phantoms over the years.
The last unit to operate the type, the 153º Fighter Squadron of the 10ª Fighter Wing of RoKAF, conducted a farewell flight last month with four specially painted aircraft, celebrating its service over the years, including a camouflage painting scheme from the Vietnam War era.
The F-4 Phantom jets first arrived in South Korea in 1969, significantly improving the country's defense posture amid threats from Soviet-made North Korean aircraft. In the last 55 years, approximately 220 Phantoms (in three different versions during the heyday: the F-4D, RF-4C and F-4E) have served in various functions, from reconnaissance missions to interception missions.
Most of the South Korean aircraft were former United States Air Force (USAF), with the exception of two plots of F-4E purchased under the Peace Pheasant I and II foreign military sales (FMS) programs. The F-4 served as South Korea's main fighter until the full deployment of the KF-16 in 1994.
The aircraft were acquired by the U.S. one year after a failed assassination attempt by North Korean commands against then-President Park Chung-hee in 1968, raising the need to strengthen military capabilities to better defend against threats from the North.
The Phantom II was then a state-of-the-art aircraft that set the pace for the purchase of more advanced fighters such as the F-16 amid its transformation into an economic powerhouse.
The four aircraft that made a farewell flight in May paid tribute to several air bases that were part of their legacy of service and were even escorted by two Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) KF-21 Boramae multifunction combat aircraft in part of their final journey.
The decommissioning of the F-4 Phantom fleet occurs at a time when South Korea is preparing to deploy the KF-21 Boramae, an internally developed supersonic fighter, by 2026. The KF-21 is expected to replace the old F-4 Phantom and F-5 Tiger jets, ensuring that the Republic of Korea Air Force remains equipped with state-of-the-art technology to face future challenges.
The South Korean government announced in February that it will build more KF-21 aircraft in 2024 with an allocated budget of about 178 million dollars, although series production should not begin until mid-2026.

Shocking audio has emerged revealing how a radical DEI activist allegedly tried to help minority candidates cheat on an entrance exam and put lives in danger in the process.
The Daily Mail on Wednesday reported that Shelton Snow, a key figure in the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NBCFAE), vowing to tell the minorities advance answers to the entry exam.
“There are some valuable pieces of information that I have taken a screenshot of, and I am going to send that to you via email,” he told the candidates.
“I’m gonna send it to each of you, and as you progress through the stages, refer to those images so that you will know which icons you should select, he continues. “Now I have a good mind to send it to one of my HR representatives first and give them the opportunity to sign off on it before you actually click it.”
“I am about 99.99 percent sure that it is exactly how you need to answer each question,” he added.
As The Mail notes, Snow also says that several people have been getting rejection notices, and he wants to avoid this.
The information was made available back in 2014 to minority candidates but whites were excluded. But until now, it has been widely hidden from the public.
One former member of NBCFAE, Matthew Douglas, provided some more disturbing information to the Daily Mail today. He said that multiple individuals not only took Snow up on his offer, but some of these people are still flying planes today.
“I know several people who cheated, and I know several people who are controlling planes as we speak,” Douglas explained.
Even more disturbingly, Snow, a US Navy veteran, still works for the FAA as an air traffic operations supervisor based out of New York. He also runs a dog breeding business, Snowstorm Bullies, out of his residence on Long Island.
News of this audio comes when just under two months ago, a tragic incident unfolded at Reagan National Airport where an American Airlines passenger jet collided with a Blackhawk helicopter during landing.
All 64 passengers in the jet were killed. The three pilots in the Blackhawk helicopter also died in the explosive crash.
Democrats and their corporate media allies later blamed Trump even though there have been aviation staffing shortages for years because of DEI policies first implemented under the Obama regime. The FAA has denied 1,000 air traffic controller applicants because they were ‘too white’ and now most air traffic control facilities are dealing with staffing shortages.
This has potentially put millions of lives in jeopardy. Some of the people responsible for the current airline crisis remain employed, and they could eventually wreck more havoc.

🔎Detective Headcanons Dump☕️
(+ board thing)

as stated on various pinterest icons and in the wiki, it’s conflicted on her name. for a while she was thought to be called sarah, but the drone that’s actually sarah is the one that said “mr doorman, there’s been an incident.” however, she’s still referred to as sarah. there’s so many conflicts. but as a compromise, i’ve been calling her sara. (little secret- it’s a name i no longer go by. the sarah/sara beef is REAL. that H has caused a massive divide in the sara/sarah world.) (no joke i actually had a HUGE rivalry with a “sara” until i realized i was nonbinary and changed my name LMAO)
-and yes, she has beef. (maybe a bit of homoerotic tension.) (QPR.) (if a rivalry lasts a long time you are no longer rivals you are gay. /ref)
-as mentioned in the other post: there’s other name options too.
A) she purposely never tells anyone her name unless they are closer friends, as she’s a very down-to-business woman. “My name’s not important right now, but this case is. Now back the hell off, this is a crime scene.”
B) her peers purposely never name her correctly and call her something different every time. plot twist- they never even asked for it, and it kinda drives her insane. “Mary, you seen my lunch?” “Any notes, Sara?” “Lissa went missing at that crime scene.” “Shirley’s on her lunch break right now.” she enjoys people trying to guess her name. they’ve probably gotten it right once or twice, but she won’t tell them. >:-)
C) or they just call her “detective”, but this plays into option A a lot.
D) like B, different name each time. but she’s the one who tells people a different name, instead of them trying to guess. at this point she’s collecting names like pokemon.
-“mister doorman, there’s been an incident🤓”. she thinks sarah’s dorkiness is adorable. the two are quite close. maybe a QPR.

-she’s an arospec lesbian (i’m not just projecting here, i came up with this headcanon before i realized i was aro lol)
“do we even have fingerprints?”
-despite it being her job, the reason that she asks this question is because of different models. the drones we see on screen have the little dents in their fingers, but it’s possible that other models don’t or have different shapes.
-in my head-canon, gasoline is the drone equivalent to coffee or energy drinks. don’t talk to her until she’s had her gasoline. i have a whole list of headcanons for different machine fluids (grease, antifreeze, coolant, etc) i have more headcanons for those, but i’ll probably post them later.
-from what we can gather of her personality, she’s very blunt, sarcastic, and gets annoyed quite easily but doesn’t make much fuss. something will bother her but she’ll still keep a level head.
-also, think khan’s demeanor in the brief scenes we saw him in episode 7. “Part 2A, check the perimeter”. straight to business, doesn’t fuck around
-if she hadn’t been killed by eldritch J, she’d probably have a crush on J and get along quite well due to similar personality.
-outside of her WDF uniform coat, she probably wears lots of muted/navy blues, greys, and browns. her style is usually an oversized flannel shirt, button-ups, or aviator jacket. maybe a sweater similar to the teacher’s. it depends on the day. i’ve gathered some outfits from pinterest as a rough idea.

-she’s really into yoga and similar workouts along that vein. she played tennis in high school.
-her ideal date night is a night in on the couch, binge watching crime documentaries and/or thrillers. (though she prefers not to date.)
-she’s well-respected within the WDF. got on a winning streak at cards.
-she often gets quite bored at her job, usually because there is nothing to do. she saw the disassembly drones getting into the colony as a good thing solely because it gave her something to do versus waiting around all day for something to happen.
-her music taste is mostly classic rock. guns n roses, queen, van halen, bon jovi, nirvana, kiss, black sabbath, pink floyd, AC/DC, rolling stones, etc
-here’s a miscellaneous mood board that i threw together with things i think are fitting for her
#murder drones#unnamed detective drone#murder drones sarah#murder drones headcanon#headcanon dump#headcanons#character moodboard#raines rambling

Platonic with a capital P :)
!MY CONTENT PLS DON’T STEAL, GIVE CREDIT IF REPOSTED ETC!
It was the summer of 1988, and Hawkins, Indiana was still basking in the neon glow of the '80s. If you could time travel back to that year, you'd find yourself surrounded by a cacophony of Walkman headphones blasting Madonna, cassette tapes strewn across bedroom floors, and the unmistakable whirr of an arcade machine. The mall was the center of the universe, and if you weren’t hanging out there, were you even living?
But on this particular afternoon, two unlikely heroes—Robin Buckley and Steve Harrington—were not in the mall. Instead, they were tucked away behind the counter of Family Video, the only place where you could rent a VHS tape and a side of sarcasm, all for the price of a large pizza.
Steve, once the king of Hawkins High, had somehow turned into the reluctant babysitter of the younger generation. His hair was still perfect (as perfect as a wild mane of curls could be), and he still had a few lingering remnants of his “cool guy” days. Robin, on the other hand, had never cared about being cool. She was too busy being smart, sarcastic, and absolutely unstoppable. Together, they formed the most unexpected dynamic duo the world had ever seen.
“I swear, Steve,” Robin said with a dramatic sigh, pushing her aviator glasses up her nose, “if you talk about your hair one more time, I’m going to shave it off myself.”
“Hey, you know my hair is my crowning glory,” Steve replied, tossing his head dramatically as if he were auditioning for a shampoo commercial. “It’s basically my superpower.”
“Superpower? More like a super annoyance,” Robin shot back with a grin, flipping through the return pile of tapes. “You know, I always wondered—how did you go from prom king to… this? Babysitter to a bunch of kids? You’re like the 80s version of a boy band member that never made it.”
“I’m not a babysitter,” Steve said, sticking his chest out, trying to look serious. “I’m a—well, okay, fine, I’m a babysitter. But at least I’m a really good one.”
“Oh, yes, the best. You’ve got the ‘Don’t make me put you in the chokehold’ look down to an art form,” Robin teased, rolling her eyes. “And you’re the reigning champion of ‘I don’t know how to relate to children,’ which is really impressive.”
“Hey, it’s not my fault they all have weird taste in music,” Steve grumbled, grabbing a bag of chips and cracking it open. “Who listens to The Clash and thinks it’s a good idea to pogo to that?”
“You, my dear Steve, are a man of the past,” Robin said dramatically. “Those kids are revolutionizing music, whereas you’re still stuck on Poison and Whitesnake.”
“Excuse me, Robin,” Steve said with mock offense, “but Whitesnake is a classic! They’re iconic!”
Robin raised an eyebrow. “Is that what you tell yourself every time you play ‘Here I Go Again’ in your car?”
“Don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it,” Steve shot back. “You wouldn’t understand—it's a mood.”
Robin could only laugh at his eternal optimism, which somehow never managed to fade despite his ever-changing life. “Whatever, man,” she said. “But if I have to hear you sing that song one more time, I’m going to pull a Steve Harrington and leave. And I know what you're thinking: I can’t leave. But I totally can.”
"Why? Because you're such an expert at running away?" Steve said, nudging her with his elbow.
"No, because I’m an expert at sarcasm and sarcasm is always on the move," Robin replied. "I don't stay in one place for too long. I mean, honestly, I get why you don’t mind—being stuck here is kind of your thing. You might as well have a neon sign that says ‘Hawkins’ favorite mall rat.’"
Steve paused for a moment, his grin faltering before returning stronger than ever. “It’s okay,” he said, standing up and giving Robin a dramatic salute. “I may be ‘stuck,’ but I’m fabulous while I’m doing it.”
Robin sighed, shaking her head. “I don’t know how you do it.”
“Simple,” Steve said, taking a deep breath as if he were preparing for a grand performance. “You wake up every day and tell yourself, ‘I’m Steve Harrington, and I’m going to make it through this day with hair that defies the laws of nature and a smile that could light up the entire mall.’”
"Ugh," Robin groaned, “Well, it’s true that I never get bored. I mean, I can only laugh at you so many times a day.”
“Aw, Robin,” Steve said, his face lighting up. “I know you love me. In a totally platonic, ‘we’ll never date but I’ll always save you from rabid fans’ way.”
Robin stared at him with mock disbelief. “I think that’s the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.”
“Don’t let it get to your head,” Steve added with a wink. "You know I’m only doing it because you make all my worst qualities look cool."
“You’re a weird one, Harrington,” Robin said as she rolled her eyes and grabbed a new tape to stack for the next customer. "But somehow, you're endearing. Like a forgotten mixtape."
“Hey, that mixtape will be a hit in the future!” Steve said confidently, raising his arms. “They’ll call it ‘Steve Harrington: The Greatest Hits.’”
“I wouldn’t hold your breath on that one, buddy,” Robin teased, knowing full well Steve’s optimism was one of his most irritating qualities.
Just then, the bell above the door jingled. A young couple walked in, their hands intertwined. Steve and Robin shared a look. It was the classic “let’s mess with them” moment.
“Hey, you two lovebirds,” Steve called out, “you looking for a movie for date night? I’ve got a recommendation. Ghostbusters is always a crowd-pleaser.”
Robin rolled her eyes, half-smiling. “Or you could go for something a little more romantic, like ‘The Breakfast Club.’ Because nothing says love like a bunch of high school misfits.”
“Hey, if they don’t go for Dirty Dancing, they’re doing it wrong,” Steve added with a wink.
The couple looked at each other awkwardly before laughing nervously. Robin and Steve exchanged knowing glances. Mission accomplished.
“I swear, Robin,” Steve said as the couple moved down the aisle, “we’re never going to win ‘Employee of the Month’ with that attitude.”
Robin shrugged. “Who needs it? We’re the coolest ones here, and we don’t even have to try. We’re like… Hawkins’ unofficial saviors of the mall.”
Steve grinned. “More like the unofficial champions of annoying everyone in a 10-mile radius.”
Robin high-fived him. “Best. Job. Ever.”
As they watched the couple disappear down the aisles of the video store, they couldn’t help but feel like maybe, just maybe, they were exactly where they were supposed to be. In a town that had seen more than its share of strange things, they were the anomaly that made life in Hawkins a little bit more interesting.
And even though they both knew they were total disasters, they also knew they were a team.

Young Adult Hoagie P. Gilligan/Numbuh 2
Appearance:Hoagie is 5'7" with a stocky and sturdy build, embracing his larger frame that gives him a comforting and approachable presence. His round face is accented with faint freckles across his nose and cheeks, adding a youthful charm. His short, slightly messy light brown hair peeks out from under a brown baseball cap, which he often wears backward or tilted casually. He still rocks his iconic blue offload, now slightly larger to fit his older self, often adorned with grease smudges or small tears from working on machines. Hoagie’s style reflects his practical, tech-savvy personality: a witty graphic tee under the offside, pocket-heavy cargo pants, and sturdy sneakers or work boots. Around his neck hang his signature aviation goggles, now sleeker, and a chunky, multifunctional wristwatch rests on his left wrist. His hands and clothes often bear grease marks from tinkering with gadgets, and his toolbelt is always packed with wrenches, screwdrivers, and small inventions. Despite his laid-back appearance, Hoagie’s bright eyes and wide, goofy grin exude his humor and warmth, making him both a dependable ally and a loyal friend.

His music collection not only reflects his personality but also adds depth to the moments he shares with loved ones.
