Slipknot
Calculated Carnage: The Numbers Don’t Lie
By Paul Gargano (google drive link)
Ten years ago, the Limelight was a landmark for bands who performed in New York City. Women danced in cages suspended from vaulted ceilings, stained glass surrounded a stage elevated on what used to be an altar and men and women mingled in lines for the unisex bathrooms. Built as a church decades earlier, the site had since been deconsecrated, converted to a nightclub, and angel-shaped disco balls hung where a crucifix was once suspended. It was the perfect–not to mention haunting and eerie–setting for the inspired debauchery of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll that made the late ‘80s and early ‘90s such revered times. And almost a decade later, recently reopened, it was the perfect venue to host the live chaos that is Slipknot.
Had there still been cages, more timid members of the crowd may have fled for them, seeking sanctity from the madness that overwhelmed the mosh pit, a floor previously occupied by rows of pews. In stark contrast to the gothic styling of the stained glass that overlooked them, Slipknot’s red jumpsuits were bright and glaring, punching into the flashing strobes and lights that lit the stage and sold-out crowd. It was a venue far too small for Slipknot–who had made their network television debut only hours earlier on Late Night With Conan O’Brien–but what it lacked in size, it made up for in character, with fans occupying choir lofts that overlooked the insanity.
It’s been a whirlwind year for Slipknot, and post-show was no exception, where #1 and #2–drummer Joey and bassist Paul, who both founded the band with #6, custom-percussionist Shawn–took some time away from the post-show madness to offer their insight behind the band that has taken the world by storm over the past year. They left the following morning for a European tour that was ultimately cut short by a personal issue at home–says Joey, “When you get a call that brings you back to where your whole mind should be, you’ve gotta take care of that stuff first and foremost”–and in the midst of planning this summer’s anticipated Tattoo The Earth tour with Sevendust and Coal Chamber, are already at work on their sophomore album, which they hope to release early next year. Who knew Des Moines, Iowa could be so inspiring?
METAL EDGE: Looking at what’s going on with today’s hard rock/metal scene, it’s starting to look a bit like the rap industry, with all the separate camps and alliances. #1 (JOEY): Honestly, that type of shit disgust’s (sic) me. #2 (PAUL): We don’t need it. It’s not that we’re going out of our way, we just say what we feel, so either take it or leave it. Korn opened a lot of doors when they came out, and that’s that. Limp Bizkit, well, I’m not going to go there… Wes [Borland] is a good guitar player. It’s scary. I picked up a magazine yesterday with a “Slipknot vs. Limp Bizkit” poll for fans to vote on, and it came out to be Slipknot over Limp Bizkit like 70% to 30%. I don’t know how that happened and I’m very worried about… I mean, you got a magazine that caters to the teenybopper metal crowd, and you’ve got every fucking issue with Korn, Marilyn Manson, Limp Bizkit and Orgy. And now Slipknot’s in every issue–I don’t like that. The thing is, I guess I can’t help it because if it matters that much to the kids, I say, “thank you.” You know how appreciative we all are, you’ve hung out with the band. You know how humble we all are about what’s happening to all of us. But, when the next record comes out, our record label is not going to fucking hear it until it’s done. No one’s going to hear it. No studio reports. There’s not going to be anything done. We’re going back to our old, old, old fucking dingy practice room with my mom coming down and fucking doing laundry in the middle of practice. That’s the way it needs to be done because we’ve accomplished this on writing music that we thought filled our emotional need. Now, the emotional need has been magnified so much because of the experiences we’ve been through, so it’s just gonna be a massively, apocalyptic, totally sick and disgusting record.
ME: Do you realize the impact you’re having on your fans? I was at your instore in New York City and it was more enthusiastic than any I’d seen before. Your fans really seem to connect with you. #1: Yeah, well that’s the thing. People always talk about needing to branch out and try different things, and I’m okay with that. We want to get our music out to different crowds, but I sometimes don’t. I wanna make sure that we please the fans that were there from the beginning and understood every aspect when no one else understood. I wanna make sure that that fan remains happy for every record. We expected to sell maybe 150-200,000 records–And not until after two years of touring. Well, I guess we filled a void in those kids… They needed this band for awhile. That’s the whole thing, I don’t necessarily want to lump myself in with those bands because I feel we have nothing in common with them, but I give total respect to Korn because on their first fucking record they opened up so many doors and they did something completely original. You’ve got the mainstay, bands like Black Sabbath, and they’re got a bunch of imitators, but there’s only one Black Sabbath. I’m not a fan of Limp Bizkit, but there’s only one of them–Even though they came after Korn. You’ve got the Deftones and stuff, they all have very energetic and very, at times, liberating music. Limp Bizkit I can’t get into, I’m not a fan, and I think we’re the total opposite of a lot of that stuff that band stands for. It’s for some people, it’s not for some people, and I don’t want to be liked by everyone–That’s the scary thing. It’s so weird that so many people have identified with what we’re doing now–It’s very scary. #2: Yes! And it’s amazing, too, because we don’t get a lot of help from the radio and MTV like these other bands. We occasionally get our video played, and there are some radio stations, but it just proves that the kids need something different. They’re sick of the same old shit being pumped down their throats.
ME: There’s an extra psychological burden, “We’re not just a band anymore, we’re a cultural force.” Did you ever want that? #1: You know what? Yes, I have, and I love the fact, I’m very fucking fortunate and grateful. I do not want to decrease it in any way. I do want to make it bigger. I wanna make it bigger by keeping the fire real and by keeping the emotion and all that shit real. And not worrying about my record label breathing down my neck like they did last time for rough mixes and fucking, “Can you try and make…” No! Ther’s why the ante has been upped on making such a fucking… You could even say it’s overcompensated and fucking disjointed as far as our personalities are concerned. We were going to record in May, but we’re going to stay out and tour because the demand for the record and the demand for us to tour now is so huge in the States–We haven’t been there, we really haven’t toured since early January and that was only like two-and-a-half weeks. Our shows were sold-out, but now we’re selling 30,000 copies a week and we’re beating the system by being played on MTV–which I’m not a fan of–and radio stations like the L.A. K-Rock and the New York K-Rock. I guess I thank them for playing us–We could have it a lot worse–but the fact is, the next record probably wouldn’t turn out the same because we’ve been through a lot of experiences now. We’re going to work so hard on it and I think it’s going to be so ground-breaking for the fact that when you go through all the things we’ve just gone through, it will never be like this again. That’s why it’s very hard for a lot of bands to copy their first record and I love that people say that. Our first record is that good. It is a very pinnacle-type album. I’m so glad that people say that because I still have that hunger that I had when I was fucking playing in front of three people in Lincoln, Nebraska with a bartender and then a cat outside, grasshoppers and fucking crickets. We are maintaining that type of a focus. #2: When we started this band, I knew it was something kids needed. I didn’t think it would be like this, but I had a feeling. Nothing’s settled in yet. We’re on the road playing shows, and that’s basically all that’s settled in! Get up and play another show! [Laughing]
ME: But it’s not enough to just “play another show” every night, you guys are beating the crap out of each other and takin’ bumps. #2: Who wants to see a band up onstage staring at their shoes? That’s not entertaining. We definitely have our bruises and our sore body parts after shows, but once we get the masks and coveralls on, I could have a broken leg and still go out there. In Australia, I tore cartilage in my knee, I couldn’t bend it, and I just taped it up really well and went out there. Shawn’s played with broken ribs. We just don’t feel the pain.
ME: You need to look into some aspirin endorsements! #2: Advil would be real nice! [Laughing] It hurts, the masks aren’t comfortable at all–it would be awesome to play in shorts and a t-shirts (sic), but that’s not us. After the show we can rest all we want.
ME: There’s a definite sense of surprise in your stage show, you never know what’s happening next. Does anyone ever take it too far and cross the line? #1: No. It can never go too far. Never too over-the-top. For a band like us, that’s the first sign of us not being what we stand for.
ME: Joey, from your vantage point onstage what do you see looking out from behind your kit? What goes through your head? #1: Honestly, I can’t even put that in words. You’re the first person that ever asked me that, but it’s something that I think about every day. I guess I see the other side of when I was in the audience watching Slayer or Metallica. I’m usually the first person out onstage, and everytime I come out there are literally tears. I really can’t explain it, it’s so grand, it’s so bigger than words. Literally, I’m getting cracked up just talking about it.
ME: Did you anticipate this kind of success, this fast? #1: Well, sometimes, but that’s just society’s control. Welcome it. If it happens this fast, welcome it and use it to your advantage and make sure that you… Like I said, I thanks all of our fans so much for fucking supporting what we have done, because it’s made me not wanna fucking destroy myself. Back in Des Moines, I thought I was literally going to die if I didn’t get to do this. I get to do it now. But, the whole thing is, when you climb one mountain, it’s time to make sure the next mountain gets climbed and the next one .And you gotta re-evaluate the goal because we got this many people on our side now. It’s like Guns N’ Roses coming so fucking fast, the next thing you know, the dude hasn’t put out a record in like a decade. Like Mike Patton, probably one of the most fucking insane performers and songwriters of the decade–He is so underrated, went on to sell millions of albums in the early ‘90s, and continually turned around and spit in everyone’s faces by putting out albums with some of the most fucked up shit I’ve ever heard. We always say that if things get too big, too fast, if there’s no room for the band to grow because we’ve already accomplished so much, it’ll be time for the band to stop. Johnny Rotten said that the easiest thing to do is stop being a rock star if you don’t want to be one anymore–I thought that statement had so much integrity, and it’s had such an impact on me. I think about that quote every day. #2: It’s amazing. Just to be able to see the country and play these shows for kids all over the place, it’s the most amazing thing. I can’t believe people get paid to do this. I would pay to do this! It rules, I can’t ask for anything more. I just sit back, smile, and if there’s any bullshit, I just smile and let it go on by without bothering me.
ME: Do you think there’s a need for rock stars in society today? #1: Yes, because I needed them, and if I didn’t have them I wouldn’t be where I’m at. It’s like giving two cents back to the music that meant so much to me growing up–Black Sabbath, Slayer, Venom and Mercyful Fate. I showed up at the Clash of the Titans tour long before anyone else did because I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Tom Araya, and last summer, I got to hang out with him. That’s a weird thing, but I needed it to become who I am today. That’s why I’ll welcome it if it’s happened this fast, because people obviously needed it. When we were practicing for pre-production of our album, we were in the same rehearsal space as KISS. I was drawing their logos all over my books in school, now we were practicing next to them, we were standing outside listening to their whole set. The funny thing was, when they all left the room, we were stealing sticks and stuff! It’s being that fan, because we still are that. On OZZfest, I’d watch Slayer from the front row every day, not like a rock star standing on the side of the stage with a laminate.
ME: Has being from Des Moines had a lot to do with your development? #1: Absolutely. From day one. Had we come from L.A. or New York, we would not have the band that we have. Honestly, we grasped on to something early on that meant something so much, then you take that and revel in it, building, building and building, practicing, practicing and practicing, and creating, creating and creating. You magnify those three things, you keep it going and you network, and if you can do that coming from where we’ve come from, you can do it anywhere, because it was a virtual black hole that Corey describes as a graveyard with buildings. #2: It’s weird, it’s almost impossible to get A&R people to Iowa. Half the people don’t even know where it is–”Iowa, isn’t that the potato state?” No, it’s corn country. No one wants to go to Des Moines for their weekend! Finally, Ross Robinson came out and said that regardless of the label, he’ll do the record. Now there are people looking all over Iowa for bands, but there’s just the one and only… People were hoping it would be the “new metal Mecca,” but it’s only us! There area (sic) few good blues bands out here, though.
ME: How long was Slipknot in the making? #1: Ten years in the making. From the day I started playing drums, the day I started playing guitar. Me, Paul and Shawn started the band. Paul and I were playing in different side projects, and I met all those other guys because we’d set up shows with friends’ bands and we’d be playing for each other. There was no one in the audience. When you put up a flier you’d get fined $50. There’s no audience. Not a fucking person. And we had no money because we spent it all (sic) drum stands and guitar strings, struggling to buy that shit. There were no newspapers or radio stations that would tell you about the bands. No doubt, man, all this stuff that’s happened to the band? You don’t even hear about it there. We go home and it’s like we never left. A girl that was on Jenny Jones was big news, but Des Moines doesn’t recognize the gold album, selling out all our shows, being on Conan O’Brien, doing OZZfest. They do’t even write about it. You wouldn’t believe it, but it’s the truth. It just goes back to show me why that place is so fucking special, because it’s such an integral part of making music. I’m glad it’s still like that, because when I go back home, the only thing I want to do is get back on tour, work hard on writing music and stay doing that until the album’s finished.
ME: Was there a certain point where you had the vision that would evolve into Slipknot? #2: Well, it wasn’t planned, it definitely evolved. The lack of anything in Des Moines definitely fueled it, and we just went from there. When we got together, we didn’t have any rules about what it would be, we just got together and the nine people made it what it is. All day, every day, that’s what the band is. The band’s my life, it means everything, it’s my family. It’s what I love the most, and it’s what I hate the most.
ME: It sounds like you’ve accomplished more than you ever hoped to, what’s next? #2: For now, just doing our shows and being with my best friends. But in the long term, it’s going to be world domination. That’s what we’re trying to accomplish. #1: Once you climb one mountain you need to reevaluate and climb another one. We’re going to continue to tour and knock it out, all the way through Tattoo. Then we’d like to go into the studio. Then the next step is to take the most anticipated disjointed, apocalyptic, gross-sounding, disgusting type of exorcism you can imagine and put them all on one record. Every song will be twice what every song on the last album was. It’s all about the band maintaining the good attitude and integrity, and the same fire and hunger that we’ve had, and taking that and magnifying it and making a way better album. #2: Our next record is going to be over the fucking top. It’s going to be stupid!
ME: With things blowing up so fast, what are you proudest of as a band? #2: I’m proudest every day of just being in this band. What blows me away most of all is the fact that I get to do it. The fact that I’m in a band with my best friends, playing songs that we wrote in a basement, and seeing all the emotion from people who come out and get it every night. #1: Our middle finger attitude. How we’ve beaten the system in less than a year, all eyes have turned, and we’ve answered to nobody. That’s why I’m glad it happened as fast as it did. Hard work over time? Sure, good things come, but when it happens that fast it’s more poignant and people remember it more. It’s freaky and it’s very surreal, but that’s why I did welcome it. There’s a reason it happened so fast, because those kids need to stand for something. That’s why I think the next record may shun some people. Is it too over the top? No, it can’t be.
ME: Are you afraid of being “too metal”? #1: We’re fully metal, and we’ve always said that. People are afraid of that word because when Pearl jam and Nirvana came they were supposed to make music more open-minded, but they really made it more closed-minded than ever. We’ll always be a metal band.
ME: You were offered OZZfest this year, why not do it again? It’s a big risk headlining your own tour. #1: There are a lot of reasons why we didn’t do it. It was very cool to do it, but I don’t need an encore performance of it. The Tattoo tour wasn’t our concept, someone came up with it and brought it to us and it was something that we were into. We stepped in. It’s cool to start something from the ground up and not know if it’s going to work. I like everything to be very unpredictable, like playing a show.
ME: It seems like you guys have just gone out of your way to defy everyone in any position of power. Is that conscious? #1: No, because we’ve always done it and we still don’t make any money–There are nine people in this band! The stage manager will come up to us before the show and say, “Please don’t burn anything on the stage, don’t throw your drums, don’t break anything…” Well, that’s a bad thing to tell us, because we’re in debt anyway. Break it all, spend all the money! We’re not making any smart fucking business calls! That’s what lawyers and managers are for. It’s all about being in the moment and being in the vibe, and you can’t deny that. If you deny human feelings, you’re a fraud. #2: I think people are drawn to honesty. Who wants smoke blown up their ass? People want to know that we’re for real. People are drawn to it because they’re sick of all the other bullshit.
ME: We’ve heard about a lot of the bands that you don’t get along with, what are some of the bands you really respect? #1: Amen. They’re very good friends of ours and have the same type of fire even though they create a different style of music. I’m a very big fan of Mike Patton’s [Faith No More] projects and the Melvins. I respect all those guys because they don’t care. They make music just for themselves, they don’t let outside influences get to them.
ME: If you could leave your fans with any one message, what would it be? #2: Be yourselves and don’t fuckin’ worry about everyone else. Do your own shit… And, thanks! From the bottom of our hearts, we thank every kid who’s ever bought our album, checked the website out, or given us any support. If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t be doing this interview, so from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

About Meghan not being sporty vs Kate being sporty.
I was very surprised to find that Meghan isn’t sporty at all considering she attended private school.
In the UK, private schools practically force their their pupils to participate in sporting activities which means that Kate was always going to have some level of sporting skills or interest and the fact that she turned out to be so good at sports AND has an interest in it is a bonus.
Ditto interest in Art, Music and a whole host of activities that are not available to state educated pupils.
I suppose I don’t understand the American private system or the entire education system because in UK you can always tell someone who is privately educated because they’ll have rudimentary knowledge and or skill at all these things that are treated as exceptional in Kate.
Our state schools are hit and miss. The good ones try to ape private school education and the bad ones are just holding cells for children who will more than likely be failed by the school and spit them out uneducated in anything.
That said, when I first heard that Meghan was dating Harold, and learnt that she was friends with establishment people in Canada, I assumed that she’d acquired these skills because why would a person go to such great lengths to enter a world very different from yourself, and remain determinedly ignorant about it especially the ways that would make you comfortable in that world.
I honestly thought her private school education would be a great help in helping her assimilate into that world.
*******
So how education generally works here in the US is that we have core classes in math, history/social studies, English/literature, and science. The rest is all elective - art, drama, music, choir, band, computer class, physical education*, foreign languages. The number of electives vary per age/school year. They also depend on what your state/school district’s curriculum requirements are.
Most schools will have some kind of mandatory elective, usually PE and a foreign langauge. Others might require more, others less.
This is the same curriculum between state/public schools, private schools, and homeschooling. Usually the difference between the type of schooling is in what electives are on offer or the material that’s within each subject or how much itme is spent on each subject. For instance, a religious private school (such as Immaculate Heart, which Meghan attended) might require a class on religion or have a daily chapel. And in my school district, my school schedule was seven classes on an A/B schedule but my cousins in another state had school schedules of 8 class periods every day.
Now PE. A few things about PE that might surprise non-Americans:
PE does not focus on one single sport or physical activity. Its primary focus is to teach physical fitness to children with a goal of helping them find a recreational activity that they like.
PE is also not just PE. For many schools, it’s where we get instruction on driver’s ed and health and nutrition. In my school district, PE was also where we were taught “family life” (aka sex ed and puberty. Yes, it was as weird as you think.)
Depending on your state or district requirements, PE can become an optional elective. In my school district, PE was mandatory through tenth grade/age 15. For eleventh and twelfth grades (ages 16-17), it was optional.
Up until about 2010ish, PE was based on military fitness requirements. There was a presidential mandate, called the Presidential Fitness Test, that basically groomed schoolchildren to perform to military fitness standards so we could be recruited for the military.
Now most schools do have sports programs and sports teams, but they’re extracurriculars, and predominantly after-school. It’s not mandatory and school sports typically begin around seventh grade/age 12. Until then, most kids are playing sports in recreation or youth leagues, which has caused school teams to be “professional”-like in that the only way to make it onto the school team is to have several years’ experience in rec league. If you’re new to the sport, just playing to have fun, or playing to learn it, you’re not going to make the team. That’s what rec league is for.
Which sounds different from how you’ve described what sports/athletics are like in the UK. It sounds like your schools not only give time for students to learn and practice sports, they also make some kind of specific athletics mandatory. Of course it makes sense that Kate would have some level of sport skill.
Whereas here in the US, we have a more generalized approach to education, including athletics and fitness. So to me, it makes perfect sense for Meghan to not have any athletic ability or any interest/skill in sport - she did the basic PE that a lot of us did and filled up her extracurriculars with theater. It’s pretty normal for us.
(Like I played softball, but I wasn’t good enough to be on the school team so after aging out of the rec league at age 14, I did band, a book club, and peer tutoring for extracurriculars.)

Hmm for the ask, do you have any headcanons about how all the characters would interact in an AU school setting? Like who's friends with who, who's dating who, who hates who, etc
BOY DO I!!
Ok so first, and my personal favorite: Roger and Maurice are 100% best friends and nothing will change my mind about this. They are those two dudes that are complete opposites but still just the closest friends.
Ralph and Simon are also obviously a cute duo, best friends for sure.
Jack and Ralph are known to have a weird relationship. They seem to have had a falling out and no one can figure out why, but used to be good friends. I like to think they have a band kid vs choir kid sorta dynamic.
Piggy barely has time to hang out with anyone because hes in literally all AP classes its insane. I think Ralph probably also takes one or two APs, mostly English and/or history classes, and Roger gives me AP art student vibes LOL. Jack is obviously in some sorta advanced choir.
Speaking of choir, Maurice, Simon, Roger, and Jack are all our favorite lil choir kids, so they are forced to be around each other a good amount for concerts and such. Jack often talks shit about the other kids singing abilities to Roger who just kinda sits there like "yep mhm thats great Jack"
ok im outta ideas for this one for now but I might come back to it LOL
THANK U FOR THE ASK I REALLY LIKE ANSWERING EM :D

Random Robaire Headcanons
Gen ;; Fluff - Headcanons
Warnings ;; None ??
Proofread + Edited ;; HA.
Auth. Note ;; WELCOME TO DAY 6 OF THE 4*TOWN CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN !!
Isn't it so exciting how we've already got this far ?? We're a quarter of the way there already !! Bit short today, I haven't had much time to write this lmao
Enjoy !! <3
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈«
Robaire prefers pepsi over coke and that is final
Specifically he prefers pepsi max but you can get him a regular and he'll be fine with it
Mans will literally hiss at coke
If a restaurant doesn't sell it ?? Best pack your things lads,, looks like it's take away and fridge pepsi tonight
Not kidding,, Ro will physically fight anyone who badmouths his beloved
Jesse staged an intervention
He tried to get Robaire to drink a sip of coke by putting it in a glass
He failed miserably..
Mans spat that shit out as soon as it touched his tongue
How tf Ro knew the difference that quickly no one will ever know
None of the other members had ever seen Robaire act so betrayed and angry at anything
Jesse made the mistake of saying that pepsi and coke taste the same anyway and if anything coke would be the one that tastes better
My man didn't realise he'd sentenced himself to public execution with that one
Cue an unnecessary, overdramatic "fight" between 2 band/theatre kids
I'm being dead serious when I say that pepsi vs coke is the only real argument Robaire and Jesse have ever had
It was heated too
Tae was literally going around asking if the band was breaking up
T went round telling people his parents were getting divorced
Z was.. honestly idk what Z was doing because I feel like he went ghost as soon as this "debate" started
Eventually the boy's came to a truce
The argument is still referred to as The Great Cola Battle
I have a feeling Robaire used to be in a band (an actual band with instruments and shit) before 4*TOWN
They kicked him out because if they wanted to make it big they needed a lead singer who fit their image
Well look who made it big and who's still promoting their CDs to their own family !!
He also used to be in every single music group his school had to offer (which wasn't many but oh well)
From choir to afterschool jams to jazz band to the orchestra,, if you can name it, Robaire was in it lmao
Ro also fucking loves Beyonce and Britney Spears
If he wasn't in 4town you know he'd be one of beyonces backup dancers
Ain't no questions about it
That man has a Beyonce song for every fucking occasion
Karaoke nights ?? Ro is singing one of his favourite songs by her
If he didn't have the voice of an angel istg the other guys would've beat him up at some point
Okay not really because then they'd have to beat up Jesse and his t swizzle addiction too and then they'd be without parents
Speaking of karaoke nights,, Ro started the tradition of a 4*TOWN bros night every saturday night
They mainly play just dance and do karaoke but.. yknow..bro time lmao
Robaire really cares about the relationships within the group though,,
He knows they all have their go to people for different things but he wants them all to be close
He views the guys as brothers and maintaining their close relationship is v important to him
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈«
Hope you enjoyed !! <3

is band kid vs choir kid rivalry a thing or was that just my school district?
(for us it was mainly because band got ALL the music funding and went to performance trips fully paid for by the school multiple times a year and only had to pay for their instruments and like small fees while choir got nothing our parents had to pay for every little thing and my high school didn’t even have an actual choir director it was just the band director who hated teaching choir until after i graduated and even the most dedicated choir kids gave up on being part of it after a year max because it was awful and he was both a creep and hated them because he didn’t want to do choir)

Hi Mushie! <3
I saw you rb'd a post about anons sending you questions so I am sending you some questions... except Im not on anon :P
If you don't feel like answering (all of) these thats completely fine too!! These were just off the top of my head! (Btw sorry for how long this ask is, you can't put readmore's in asks sadly)
1. What would you say is your fav color/ are your top three fav colors?
2. Sunrises or sunsets?
3. Fav animals as a kid vs now?
4. Current fav song if you have one atm/ how often do you listen to music?
5. Do you like to sing?
6. What do you like most about your art? What got you into drawing?
7. Whats the best season/weather?
8. Do you like thunderstorms? Do you like snow?
9. Do you have plants? If yes, how many?
10. Did you drink enough water today? If no, drink some rn this is a threath!
Juno 💗🥺 I love long asks so no need to apologize! For whatever reason mobile also doesn’t ever let me do the “read more” thingy so, I’m used to it 😂 The questions are a welcoming distraction so thank you, I appreciate you so much 😭
1. Okay my all time favorite color is like a teal blue-green? Like if you look up “blue green crayola crayon” that’s my favorite 😂 But second and third favs would have to be probably lavender and mint green maybe? Black also tbh
2. I am literally obsessed with the sky at any time of day, but I prefer evening / nights. I love cotton candy sunsets and starry nights ✨
3. When I was little I think it went in order from giraffe to elephants to wolves to cows to sharks to orcas….I still love all of them now but I’d say cats, orcas and sharks are my top 3. I have tattoos of an orca and a cat, I’m gonna get one of a shark too! (*an extra bit of mushie lore: I have a half sleeve on my left forearm that’s just all animals so rn I have the cat and orca, a moth, and a snake! My next one is gonna be the shark for sure)
4. OOF music related questions. More ~mushie lore~, I was a music nerd. I was in band, choir, advanced choir, music theory, marching band, theatre…..etc. I also was a music major in college 😬 So you can imagine how often I’m surrounded by music. I listen to it every single day, I don’t know how people go without it. I’d say right now, I’m currently just listening to Sabrina Carpenters new album “emails I can’t send” on repeat. But from THAT album, I’d say “because I liked a boy” OR “how many things” are the two I listen to the most! All time fav song…..that is genuinely so hard to pick but maybe “I love you” by Billie Eilish bc it always hurts me in the best way
5. I do be singing literally daily 😂 I used to get leads in musicals and stuff but I also don’t think I’m very good. BUT that being said I’ve had multiple people try and make me audition for shows like the x factor lmfao so do whatever you’d like with that information
6. So at the moment I’m not really sure there’s anything I like about my art. I’m kind of in a funk where I think everything I do just isn’t really that good. Which is dumb and not true! Because I know that I’ve been proud of things I’ve made. But yeah…I’m not sure. How I got into art was actually through my dad. He would always have canvases at his house and he would always encourage me to create stuff. So when I was younger and throughout like grade school I was really good, I was in advanced art classes and groups and in art shows and all that. But I kind of got out of it for a bit and just started up again in 2020. And I’m definitely more of a painter now, although I have been mainly drawing to try and get skill back
7. best season hands down is autumn. My favorite weather is stormy and cloudy, a little chilly so I can just wear a big sweater or hoodie and feel nice and cozy
8. Oop, I kind of answered the thunderstorm question. As for snow…..not really. I think it’s beautiful to look at and I love when it’s cold outside, but I don’t like being outside in it or driving in it
9. I have HELLA plants. Except they’re all fake 😎 I have probably around 20-30 in my room, I have an issue
10. It’s 9AM but I haven’t slept in like 36 hours so I don’t know what counts as today and what doesn’t….I have coffee currently and I have water!
Juno you are a lovely human and I am so grateful to have you in my inbox 💗

Choir vs Band AU!!
Lance, Hunk, and Allura are in choir, while Keith, Shiro, Pidge, and maybe Matt are in band. The band and choir have a strange rivalry that no one really knows the history of, but it’s still in effect.
It’s announced by the choir and band teachers that they are going to host a concert featuring both the band and choir classes, a group effort for the spring concert.
Keith didn’t really mind choir kids, until he met Lance, who really just pushed his buttons and made Keith snap back. Lance was insistent about the rivalry, and eventually Keith got dragged into it.
They both despise the fact that they have to work together, much to chagrin of literally everyone else.
But one day Keith forgets something of his in the choir room, and has to go back after school. He sees Lance in the room, and immediately wants to say something, until Lance opens his mouth and starts singing. Keith is immediately entranced, because hearing Lance sing with other people and hearing him sing alone are two different things entirely. His voice is smooth, like honey, but with an undertone of raspiness he doesn’t have when he’s singing with the choir. Keith turns on his heel and that’s when he knows he’s completely and utterly fucked.
A while later, Lance has to get to school early because he had to take his niece to an appointment, which really should’ve made him late, but it was early. He thinks he’s the first person there, but when he gets to the band room where the two classes are meeting, he feels a spike of irritation that Keith is there before him. He was about to announce his presence when Keith starts playing his instrument. He thinks it would be rude to interrupt, so he stays until Keith stops. But he doesn’t take into consideration how Keith looks while he’s playing. He’s serene and at peace while he’s playing, the notes filling the air and surrounding Lance like a blanket. Lance flushes, and turns around to take a lap around the school because what the fuck.
Things change a bit after that. Lance and Keith are nicer to each other, and even are able to hang out with their mutual friends without starting an argument every five minutes. Their banter becomes more friendly, instead of the hard jabs they used to be. They even laugh together sometimes, and enjoy each others company.
On the night of the concert, Lance is pretty nervous about singing. Keith is with him, and tells Lance he will be perfectly fine. Right before they go stage, Keith works up the courage to kiss Lance, and when they part, Keith whispers “a kiss for good luck” before he joins the band kids on stage.
Lance is filled with confidence, and he does great on stage. They all do great.
Afterwards, Lance runs over to tackle Keith in a hug, which Keith reciprocates. They pull away slightly before Lance leans forward to kiss Keith again.
Keith goes “what was that for?” And Lance just replies “because I wanted to” before Keith leans back up to kiss Lance again.

I would think hongjoong, san, wooyoung, and jongho band kids (+ maybe yunho?) and seonghwa, yeosang, and mingi orchestra kids
anon you and I are on the same wavelength. this is the lineup I am now thinking of:
band kids aka hongjoong and his children (includes regular band and jazz band):
hongjoong: jazz pianist, can probably play every instrument but sticks with piano just because? loves improvisation and spends most of class not listening to the band director (no one can yell at him, he's the best player), will playfully get into fights with seonghwa over the merits of classical vs jazz but truthfully does enjoy all types of music, he just really really REALLY likes playing nonsense on the piano and making it sound good. paints his nails even though they have to be short for playing piano. what a rebel
yunho: clarinet, too tall for his section??????? bitch he'll be sitting in the front and well good luck to everyone else behind him lmao, actually really enjoys playing and isn't an annoying ass like band kid wooyoung, likes to sometimes learn the orchestra clarinet stuff and is an honorary orchestra kid (seonghwa loves him but not when he's messing around with mingi). just. a very tall gentle giant whose hands look massive around his little clarinet but it works
san: flute and is mad about it. not about the flute like he LOVES playing the flute but SHUT THE FUCK UP @ THE REST OF THE BAND HE CAN'T HEAR HIMSELF. looks very pretty sitting there in the front (also looks unfairly pretty just playing the flute - what the fuck dude we're all doing duck lips but he's just there looking ethereal bitch what). really does pay attention to the conductor when he isn't being a shit with wooyoung but could get away with murder tbh since everyone in band loves him.
wooyoung: trombone. a literal piece of shit. my band director once showed us how he empties spit from his trombone onto the FLOOR and I just kNOW middle school/high school wooyoung would do that shit to laugh at everyone yelling. only cleans up the spit when hongjoong sends jongho to threaten him. really stupidly good at trombone though so no matter how much everyone wants to strangle him they kinda need him there bc the other trombones fucking suck lmao. I've decided to move on from the alto sax wooyoung agenda bc I genuinely hated the alto saxes and I do not genuinely hate jung wooyoung
jongho: jazz vocals when he isn't being a choir boy. angelic voice, hongjoong praises the lord every day that he managed to adopt jongho into his little band of idiots. really loves singing jazz because it does some cool ass shit with the voice but is also very tired of dealing with wooyoung?? once broke an apple over wooyoung's head and they legitimately had wooyoung get checked for a concussion. likes to break fruit in the middle of performances which makes the audience go wild (they advertise it when concerts come around). band director just has their head in their hands
orchestra kids aka seonghwa and his children:
seonghwa: first chair violinist. was one of those kids with those parents who made them learn an instrument when they were young and in seonghwa's case it was three - violin, flute, and piano. liked violin the most though he's fairly good at piano and decent at flute. not really a music prodigy but he's first chair because he's very good at what he does and is the responsible one who keeps the rest of the orchestra reined in. everyone respects him but at the same time doesn't and seonghwa just wants a break at this point
yeosang: piccolo. likes it because he doesn't have to worry about not being heard like the flutes do because EVERYONE will hear him playing his high ass notes on his instrument. picked up piccolo out of spite for wooyoung because woo likes to play trombone in his ear so now yeosang plays piccolo in woo's ear (best friend goals???). got very lightheaded the first few times he actually played piccolo bc yknow the breathing thing and seonghwa enlisted band flute san to help him out. regrets it because now yeosang causes chaos with san too
mingi: sweet summer child trumpet but not like an asshole trumpet who just blasts whenever he can. genuinely pays attention and feels bad whenever the softer instruments can't hear themselves because he's playing a little too loud, so he works on playing softer. universally adored by everyone in orchestra and band (became an honorary band kid when he became friends with yunho and started learning band trumpet parts for fun too). first chair of course the boy works hard and the conductor Recognizes It

LOVESICK BLUES (SELF-PARA)
who: ruby zizes (ft. @lemonlopez & @bbpuck ) where: the choir room when: friday, nov. 13, 2020 what: ruby decides to audition for glee club (with a little help from some friends) just as taylor swift vs. dolly week comes to a close
Life post-cheerios was...kind of depressing. Nearly two weeks after her expulsion from the squad, Ruby was trying to keep a low profile for the most part. After one fucked up slushie to the face, she was in no rush to have a repeat of the situation. She had always prided herself on being a confident person—someone who rose through the ranks against all odds. It definitely knocked her down a peg to see the way she was treated without red polyester hugging her in all the right places, but this was an important lesson. After weeks of teary conversations turned into screaming matches with her parents, Ruby was done moping around. She was determined to get to the bottom of it.
She had a three step plan. Step one was working with Bell Pepper to figure out who leaked the nudes before wiping them from the internet. That plan was already in motion. Step three, the final step, involved working with resident cool girl LJ Holliday and the rest of the angry Titans to organize some sort of protest to get back at the blatantly sexist administration. That part of the plan was also in motion. That left step two...arguably the hardest step of all.
Make new friends.
Ruby had seen the true colors of a lot of the cheerios and while she wasn’t a grudge keeper by any means, she’d always remember this moment—who showed up for her and who didn’t. She knew girls could be catty, but she hadn’t expected this level of selfishness. It just went to show her how naive she truly was. There wasn’t much she could do about it other than try to find some new people who would mean it when they said they were in her corner. She didn’t have a clue about where to start, but when Lemon suggested the New Directions at Mr. Schuester’s wedding...well, it was kind of appealing.
Ruby could hold a tune and she loved music. Did she possess Ivy's level of intensity about show choir or Stevie’s competitiveness or Julien’s shameless passion? Definitely not. But from what she understood about the New Directions, they were like a family or whatever. A group of kids who didn’t all fit together perfectly but somehow found it in themselves to be there when it counted. That was the energy she needed. So, after working all week long on a song with the help of Lemon Lopez-Pierce who brought on Baby Puckeman, Ruby finally felt ready to audition for the New Directions come Friday.
She walked into the choir room alone on Friday, but felt immediately supported by the affirming look she got from Lemon and even Baby. Apparently she wasn’t the only one looking to join, so she took a seat next to Lemon and watched with bright eyes as the allegedly homophobic Vince Hart took to the center of the room and performed a seemingly impromptu Taylor Swift medley. Ruby’s jaw dropped when she realized this was absolutely a gay serenade. If every week was this eventful in glee club? She was definitely in the right place.
She clapped at the end of Vince’s performance and watched amusedly as Cam’s sister started tearing up on one side of the room while other people congratulated Vince on his audition. Once the initial excitement died down though, Mr. Schue got everyone focused again and called Ruby up to the center of the room. Oh fuck. She’d almost forgotten she was here to sing too. “RIght,” she said, taking a quick breath before she got up and planted herself in front of the New Directions. “I’m Ruby,” she started, heart thumping nervously in her chest as she glanced around at all her peers—some of which were also cheerios, “you guys probably already know that.” Ruby tried to take her mom’s advice, to picture everyone in the crowd wearing their underwear...but that didn’t really work when the entire audience had seen her in her underwear (or less). Oh well, no backing down now.
“I’ve never really done this before,” she admitted, mostly to Dan Schuester, “so I like...I asked for some help. I hope that’s cool.” Another page out of her mom’s book. She grinned as she waved Baby and Lemon over to her side. When choosing a song, she knew she wanted to do Dolly. Lemon and Baby had shared stories about their moms and the ‘unholy trinity,’ which was what inspired the trio arrangement and the simple but sharp choreography.
One they were in their places, Ruby eyed one of the band geeks and gave them a nod—“hit it.” Lovesick Blues from Honky Tonk Angels (notoriously linked to the walmart yodel boy) was one of Ruby’s favorite songs of all time and as soon as the music started, a devilish smile graced her face and she opened her mouth to sing.
Got a feelin' 'cause I'm blue, oh, Lord, since my daddy said goodbye.
The three girls sang in their triangle formation with Ruby at the center. With Lemon and Baby backing her up, Ruby felt supported and confident.
Now I'm in love, I'm in love with a wonderful guy, that's what's the matter with me. Well, I'm in love, I'm in love with a wonderful guy, but he don't care about me.
The longer the number went on, the more fun she had, and by the time they reached the final verse, she was belting her heart out like her life hadn’t fallen apart a couple of weeks ago.
I've grown so used to that man, and how and I'm nobody's sugar baby now. 'Cause I'm lonesome, I got the lovesick blues.
Ruby let out a breathless, almost surprised chuckle as the song came to a close and she was enveloped in a hug by Lemon and Baby while the choir room filled with applause. Had they really just done that? Holy shit. “Um,” she gulped, unable to stop grinning from ear to ear, “that was pretty fucking cool.” Oop. She brought a hand up to cover her mouth. “Sorry,” a shrug, “can we curse in here?” She placed her hands on her hips as she tried to compose her joy. "So...what do I do now? Am I in?” The tea about the New Directions was that everyone got in. Dan Schuester formally welcomed her and told her to take a seat before making his way over to the white board to scrawl next week’s lesson in marker—Lorde vs. Cher. As Ruby settled into her seat and looked around at her new teammates, she felt a calm wash over her. It wasn’t the cheerios, and it certainly wasn’t perfect, but she’d take it.

a list of favourite encounters with people I’m unlikely to ever meet again
just a list of interesting people I’ve met/been friends with :) I was thinking of a few of them today and thought it probably would be interesting to write them down.
I had a friend in our children’s choir called Elise(?) who had silky blonde hair, very cool glasses (can’t remember the shape or colour but I remember thinking they were cool), and who smelled very distinctly like grape juice. We smiled at each other during rehearsal once (we were both new!), sidled up to each other, and she asked me if I wanted a Starburst. I said yes please. Instant friends. Never saw her again :(
brisk, stressed-looking lady at our favourite noodle shop; ALWAYS looked stressed so my dad always made a point of telling her that the food was very good
one of my church’s youth leaders (who moved away a long time ago). He was one of the few people who took me seriously in middle school, and actually talked to me about books. He had the cutest little girl with the curliest brown hair, and would often raise his eyebrows wryly when people commented on his bald head. I remember asking him about The Girl Who Could Fly and whether or not The Golden Compass was worth reading, and he answered my questions very seriously.
another one of my former youth leaders, this twenty-something German student called Linnea. I thought she was one of the prettiest people I’d seen. She was very friendly, very outspoken, and talked to me about choosing to follow Jesus one youth night. I really liked her, and I also really liked that she told us we could talk to her about anything. She left before I had the bravery to open my mouth, though.
I had a childhood friend called Lucy and we shared a secret hideout. It was very exciting. Once she came over to give me this gigantic rock that had a plant growing in a little hole. She moved away before I could say goodbye, and before I moved out of that neighbourhood, I used to drop by our secret hideout to make sure it was still there.
speaking of childhood friends: one was called Lisa. She had gorgeous black hair (very long) and always came to church in the prettiest dresses. She was very good at art and once showed us tiny flowers she’d sculpted out of clay. She could speak fluent Chinese (she was part of the Chinese service) and I really liked her. Unfortunately when I last visited my hometown, she didn’t remember me at all. It was a very awkward conversation.
my third grade teacher was the BEST. She was a comfortable looking woman with black hair and blue eyes, and reminded me of both Marilla and Mrs. Lynde. We had mandatory knitting hour every day and went for runs in the forest every week. She had a little wooden book cabinet with glass doors, and I would borrow books from them every once in a while. She chose Because of Winn-Dixie and The Tale of Despereaux for our novel study unit, and read both of them out loud to us. (She read the whole of Winn-Dixie in a very convincing Southern accent.) Every single one of us had our own set of knitting needles, ball of yarn, and knitting bag (she and another elementary school teacher made knitting bags with drawstrings for each and every one of us). She was the only teacher I had in that school who could calm down the restless kids, and who showed the ADHD/ADD kids compassion. When she gave you That Look you knew you had to settle down and behave. I went to visit her many years ago and found out that she’d gone in for chemotherapy - I heard later on that she’d fully recovered. I hope she’s doing well.
my fourth grade teacher (part 1). I can’t remember his name, but I remember he was VERY tall, Caucasian, and wore a sweater and a name tag on his first day. The first thing he did with us was sit down on a desk and ask us our name and something interesting about ourselves. I told him that I really liked books. He asked me which ones. I said Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Narnia. He asked me about my opinion on other Roald Dahl books. He listened to ALL of us very intently, and we warmed up to him very quickly. At the end of our introductions he went around and repeated all our names and our interesting facts. I had never felt so understood before.
my fourth grade teacher (part 2). The first one switched schools after one or two weeks, and we had Miss Payson come in. She was also comfortable-looking, with short brown hair and purple glasses. She had a purple knitted hedgehog, and spoke very kindly to all of us. We had a mandatory creative writing session every week, where we would go to the computer lab and type for around an hour. I asked her permission once to write a story about her hedgehog, and she said yes. (I was VERY happy for the rest of the day.)
my fifth grade teacher (part 1). The first was an Italian lady with black hair to her shoulders and a matter-of-fact approach. The restless kids who liked to talk back got her riled up on several occasions, but most of the time she was very calm and practical. She taught us to write comparison essays (I did one on wild vs. farmed salmon and it was a horrible essay.) She told us she was going to get married in the summer. Are you going to invite us? asked one of the boys. No, she said, and laughed. Once, a boy in my class took Jesus’s name in vain (she told us right off the bat that she was Catholic) and a steely look entered in her eye. She told him very quietly that she didn’t want to hear any such language in class, and he apologised to her immediately, rather chastened. I did some creative writing with her, and she was the first teacher to tell me that she looked forward to seeing my name on a bookstore shelf one day. I will never forget that.
my fifth grade teacher (part 2). The second was a lady from Ghana who had two children she loved telling us about, and had a very bubbly and passionate personality. She read to us in class, was VERY good at math, and often directed a certain look at us I now call an ironic glance.
this wisp of a girl with long brown hair and a slight nervous look called Valentina. She always looked nervous and a little unhappy, and I never got the chance to ask her why.
a friend from middle school with short red hair (very wild! very beautiful!) and freckles. We were both into The Hobbit when it came out, and collaborated on a novel for NaNoWriMo in 2013(?). It was a bit messy and we never really finished it, but I remember how insistent she was that we help the main character realise that the world was still a beautiful place. (I loved her for that.)
my old band teacher in elementary school, back when I could actually play clarinet. He was British, wore the same black earrings every class, was very tall, very thin, and very kind. He never once yelled at us for playing badly, or for getting distracted. Band was so much fun with him. I can’t tell you how many times we practiced King Arthur’s March, but I can tell you that it was a LOT.
someone I saw when I got off the train one day. I was on the way home, the train doors opened, and I saw the most beautiful pair of eyes I had ever seen. I don’t remember his face at all (I don’t recall any other features of his) but I do remember that it was late afternoon, and the sun struck his brown eyes. I could see the gold in them. It was an enchanting experience.
a whole GROUP of people I dearly wanted to be friends with: this boy who I thought must be some sort of fairy: rectangular wire glasses, very floppy dirty blond hair, angelic smile, insisted on wearing a pageboy cap and clunky boots, played violin like it was as natural to him as breathing. He was a very friendly person. His sister, who also had short hair and glasses - the kind of person whose enthusiasm is contagious. (When she talks to you, you can’t help but smile.) Also another of his possible relatives (I don’t know... they were both blonde, tall, and had similar hair): this slender, elf-like girl with a pixie cut who had black combat boots, and an endless supply of flannel shirts and dangly earrings. She was into Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who (I was always at the edge of my seat, wishing I could chime in with an “I love them too!” but I was never quite brave enough). Another girl was always dressed in black (with matching purple lipstick and ALSO black combat boots), and talked about the books she liked and didn’t like (Brave New World wasn’t worth reading, she said one day). A younger girl with bouncy blonde hair and these GORGEOUS blue-green eyes. I didn’t know that people’s eyes could actually sparkle until I saw her. She was the life of the party, and was incredibly charming because she didn’t seem to be aware at all how charming she was. OH and a girl who looked like she’d walked right out of the 1940s: red lipstick, curly ginger hair, beauty mark, with an incredible singing voice. She was in love with La La Land and Phantom of the Opera (very valid) and was the darling of the group (you could definitely tell why: she was well-spoken, bright-eyed, generous). And a very tall, very quiet boy with dark curly hair who was very talented at any kind of art. Very fluent in French (French was part of the vernacular in this friend group... they sometimes slipped in and out of it and I would just sit and smile, somewhat confused). Also very kind. I remember he once asked to look at my sketchbook (I was vibrating with nervousness the whole time. You know when you’re in middle school, and want validation SO much? Or maybe that was just my social anxiety) and when he finally handed it back, he said something nice and smiled. I instantly felt more at ease. He was also a friendly person, the kind of person you could sit with for a long time in silent companionship. Also very, very kind - and more of an action person than a talking person.

So it’s canon that:
Shadowcrest, as a residence, lies just outside Gotham’s limits. Or Just Within. It’s “near” Arkham Asylum so yknow. Take that for what it is (citing Zee’s early appearances in JLA comics for this one folx, can’t remember specific issues but Roll With Me Here)
Zee went to school with Some regularity. Or at least around her teenaged years (Zatanna #9? Aka Brace Yourself anyone? Ehh? She mentions being Embarrassed™️ abt having to go to school with braces so yknow. She had Some Normal schooling at least)
Logical Conclusion: Zatanna attended school in Gotham at Some Point.
Crack Theory: Zee & Selina went to the same school and actually have a longer running Beef that goes WELL beyond Zee messing with Selina’s mind bc they had a Falling Out/Potential Rivalry
Like just. Just ROLL with me here. LISTEN. Imagine it. Theater kid Zee who’s also Super Involved™️ with the choir/band kids and school productions and local activism groups too bc even as a Tween she’s got that little bit of Wanting to Save The World in her. Vs Juvenile “Delinquent” Selina who’s toeing the line until she can fully emancipate herself, skirt outta school w/ a ged & strike out on her own and who’s gonna cause As Many Problems As She Can on her way out. Inevitably crossing paths when Zee’s staying at school much too late for extracurriculars & Selinas breaking in for a prank/vandalism/xyz reason and Boom. You got a Catanna Conflict to Light a Spark btwn these two
Throw in an obligatory joke abt “youve got history with her but chemistry with me” “wait, you guys got your class schedules” somewhere in the mix too
Thanks for coming to my ted talk

falling: -if i could fly piano vibes -HIS VOICE -cant wait to hear that ‘again’ live -carrying the self deprecating tone again -seems to be placing most of the blame on himself? -less angry and more sad -the last ‘falling’ where his voice is a bit broken at the end...okay
to be so lonely: -sad banger -’i was just a little boy’ - why do i feel like that was a point of contention - immaturity? -interesting beat and choppy format -like the hard ending - abrupt but good
she:  -jazzy? -pink floyd whomst?  -falsetto chorus YUH -harry + kids - hurts all two of my feelings -woman’s cooler older sister -incredible guitar solo thank u mitchell
sunflower: -we vibin bro -vampire weekend??? -harmonies -‘kiss in the kitchen like its a dancefloor’ *karma got its kiss for me voice* shut UPPPPPPPP  -the gasp -weird ass noises. hm. into it -harry ‘i have done drugs’ styles
canyon moon: -he’s gonna force me to listen to country isnt he -i mean this in the best way… it sounds like a song from a movie soundtrack. like straight out of a romcom -HARMONIES -whimsy -vocal layering? love -incredible production -this vs more of the bare bones ‘band all records in one take’ vibe of hs1, production not too over the top, just enough to make things sonically interesting, for you to go ‘oh whats that bit he’s singing under there’ -very 60s/70s???
tpwk: immediately started laughing at the vocal choir -Yeah Mushrooms -i was afraid that the title would be in the lyrics but its not as bad as i thought it might be -he HAS the range. literally. he’s a singer and he can sing -variable sections - distinct sections - a lot going on in each but not too overwhelming -‘find a place to feel good’ dont make me say it harry
fine line: ……………..here we go -me, checking the length: ‘fuck its six minutes? Bitch’ -bon iver?? - dont hate me but it sounds like its directly from the twilight soundtrack. thats a compliment -‘we’ll be a fine line’ staying friends after breakup? Boundaries??? -‘spreading you open’ ma’am this is a mcdonalds drive thru -boy loves a repeated lyric -starts slow and builds to this really great soaring section -midsommar vibes at the end
anyway fine line is the best song he’s ever written thank u for coming to my ted talk

music;
x1 Your top three favorite bands: >> I don’t really have favourite bands anymore, but three bands that I enjoy a lot are Muse, Nevermore, and Coheed & Cambria.
x2 One song that means a lot to you: >> Nothing As It Seems by Pearl Jam.
x3 An instrument you dislike: >> I don’t think I dislike any instrument.
x4 A musician you think others should know more about: >> I don’t think there’s any musician that everyone should know about. It’s not that deep. Listen to whatever you like.
x5 Some lyrics you find meaningful: >> There’s no way I’m going to think of some off the top of my head.
x6 The name of one of your past music teachers: >> I think one of my choir instructors was named Mrs Brosnan.
x7 A musician who inspires you: >> Clint Mansell.
x8 A song from your childhood, that you used to sing: >> I sang stuff from the Prince of Egypt soundtrack a lot when I was a kid. Which is why I still remember all the lyrics.
x9 A description of your music taste: >> I wouldn’t bother describing it.
x1o One thing you believe about music in general: >> I believe that people should listen to whatever moves them, and being snobbish about which artists/genres are “better” than others completely ignores the pure subjectivity of the experience and makes you annoying to be around. The analytics of music is a very interesting area of study, certainly, but when it comes to whatever people choose to listen to for their own pleasure, leave that stuff at the door.
x11 Do you judge other peoples' taste? >> No. See above.
x12 Do you think you have "good taste"? Why|why not? >> I don’t care about whether my taste in music is “good” or “bad” to other people. It’s just what I like listening to. Again, it’s not that deep.
x13 Are there any concerts you'd like to go to? >> Sure, a few.
x14 What would be a perfect line-up, in your opinion? >> I don’t have any ideas for a perfect line-up.
x15 What do you think of modern VS older music? >> I stay away from comparison. I mean, I’ve definitely had discussions about how the music industry has changed, how listening habits have changed, stuff like that -- because that’s stuff that’s easy to measure. Whether music was “better” “back then” and all that is not of interest to me, because it’s really just opinion and not even useful opinion. Some of the music I like is leagues older than me, some of it came out just last year.
life;
x1 What is one lesson you have learned? >> Oh, you know. Everything is temporary, and such.
x2 Have you ever reconnected or reunited with old friends? >> No.
x3 Were you ever in a hurry to grow up? How'd that work out? >> I was in a hurry because nothing about being a minor made sense to me -- life really only started making sense to me when I was out on my own. Even when it was terrible, it made sense. I could figure shit out. Trial and error never really scared me.
x4 What did you tend to think of school, as a kid? As a teen? >> I don’t know what I thought of school as a child, but I know it was the bane of my existence as a teenager.
x5 Do people have to earn your respect? >> I give basic respect to everyone, regardless of their personality or whatever, unless their behaviour is just full-on atrocious. But more personal, deeply-felt respect is something that is developed for a certain kind of person.
x6 Or is it given until there's a reason for it not to be? >> That’s how basic respect works for me, yeah.
x7 What is something you've learned about trust? >> I’ve learned that it’s a really valuable thing, but people will definitely treat it like it’s nothing, and that’s a tragedy.
x8 What advice do you have regarding happiness? >> Don’t make a big deal out of it. It’s really, really not that deep. The cult of happiness is just a huge money-maker for the corporations, none of which actually have your well-being at heart. Also, the definition of happiness varies depending on who you talk to and what angle they’re pushing, so as far as intangible things go, it’s ridiculously mercurial and insubstantial. Make your goals more specific than “be happy/happier” or else you’ll always fail.
x9 In your own opinion, what is the meaning of life? >> Whatever you want. There’s no inherent meaning, in my opinion, which means it’s all up to the individual.
x1o Who|What makes living worthwhile? >> I don’t know. Whatever sparks joy, I guess.
x11 If there was no God, would you still want to live? >> Luckily, there are far, far more reasons to enjoy being alive than the concept of God.
x12 When was the last time you altered your lifestyle? >> I’m not sure. My lifestyle has been rather stable for the past couple of years.
x13 What is your take on getting older? >> I’m interested to see what happens.
x14 Do you think you are wise? >> Nah.
x15 Do you believe in an afterlife? Why|Why not? >> Nah. It just doesn’t jive with me. Well... on the other hand, I interpret Inworld as an afterlife and neither of the current Inworlders have disagreed with me. But it’s not... like, literal “after-life”. They could also be living other lives, simultaneously, or in parallel to this one, or before this one or after this one or... whatever. It still doesn’t track with the idea of, say, Heaven, which is a very ... linear destination. Hm.
people;
x1 Do you ever observe other people, at random? >> Sure.
x2 What is one thought you have about society today? >> I don’t really have thoughts about society as a whole. I usually have thoughts about specific aspects of American society, like media influence and individualism and stuff like that. But those thoughts change frequently as new information is presented to me, so I wouldn’t quote them or anything.
x3 Can you agree to disagree, easily? >> Sure.
x4 Do you ever wonder about what goes on in other peoples' minds? >> Of course. Especially neurotypical people. What’s it like to have a brain that functions the way you expect and need it to, all the time???
x5 Do you try to persuade others to think like you? >> Eh. I am always up for offering my perspective on things, but there’s no way I can expect to convince anyone to adopt my perspective if they don’t already have it. It might happen, on some odd occasion, but I don’t expect it to.
x6 Has someone tried to persuade you to see things from their point of view? >> Sure. It’s usually not too difficult for me, though. Whether I care about their point of view is the thing that matters, not whether I can grok it or not.
x7 What is one lifestyle you do not understand? >> I cannot think of a single lifestyle I just flat-out don’t understand. (Yes, you should consider that a challenge.)
x8 How do you think people with mental disorders should be treated ( socially, not medically )? >> Well, with dignity and compassion, of course. How else?
x9 Is there a subculture you dislike or make fun of? >> Nah. I like subcultures, even the ones I don’t participate in.
x1o What do you hate about humanity? >> Nothing.
x11 Do you contribute to what you hate? If yes, in what way? >> ---
x12 Do you wonder what the world would be like w|o people? >> Sure, it’s a fun thought exercise.
x13 Is interacting with others something you enjoy? >> Under certain conditions.
14 Do you think the government is up to something? >> I mean, aren’t they always? But maybe not necessarily the stuff r/Conspiracy says they’re up to.
x15 What is one cure for ignorance? >> The only cure for ignorance that I’m aware of is the willingness to learn.
