As an Oricori fan, how do you feel about it recently gettign access to Quiver Dance in gen 9?
Because prior, that adorable little bird was kind of a nothing sandwhich in battle.
But now? All the sudden this thing is a force to be reckoned with in the mid & lower tiers of competitive play.
I dunno about you, but it baffles me that of all the mons Gamefreak decided to make viable, Oricorio was on that list.
HONESTLY I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ORICORIO WAS SO LOW IN COMPETITIVE BEFORE BECAUSE I THINK IT ALREADY WAS PRETTY GOOD IN GEN 7??? I used mine at the Battle Tree and for a little bird like her she did a pretty fine job :'D Quick Claw, Air Slash, Feather Dance, Roost and Revelation Dance-Set-up BABYYYYYYYYYY She could knock out A LOT of Pokemon in just 1-3 turns. Or endure a shitton of super effective attacks thanks to Feather Dance and stocking up with Roost again B) I remember a ridiculous long fight with a Garchomp that we still miracolously won with a not very effective move... Yes, obviously she was no Lucario or Landorus, but it was fun to bring out the best in her and defeat some of my friends aces with her in COLD BLOOD >:)
But I LOVE that she got Quiver Dance in Gen 9 and more people are finally paying attention to her :D She was always great in my eyes but now she got a new move to back it up!

The guy behind @athena-appreciation-page here, how ya goin'
Figured I'd ask since you're the Simon Blackquill expert & are currently rotating an AA Pokemon AU in your head to my knowledge, because I desperately need to know for a bunch of teams I'm writing out for myself...
is this bugger Simon-core or nah?
They've got the hair and glare for it, with plenty of cutting moves and a Dark typing. I need a replacement for Kartana on teams where he isn't out for blood and this stuck out to me as a potential candidate. No pressure! Just a thought I had.
~Helgi
I would say "probably". Funny enough, I was thinking about this guy the other day, myself. I really like the wind theming for Shiftry, especially given that they're not flying-type. There are also a lot of really good picks in general, some of which you might prefer to this one, it just really depends on the context of the AU, you know? Like if it took place in Hoenn, I think Shiftry is a much better pick than if it took place in Sinnoh.
Since I'm not privy to the full context [or if traditional regions are being used at all], and since it took me all day to get around to answering this anyway, I thought I'd slap together some choices from each region, making sure to include a starter.
Therefore this is gonna be a long post
Honestly, the starter could go any way & I think it could work. I also think Pidgeot in place of Fearow is okay, but I am a big Fearow stan, so use that one.
Another gen where the starter could go any way & I think it would work. But I chose the one that shows up in Hisui. Murkrow and Sneasel were partially chosen here because Gen 4 is so full of good mons that I picked their pre-evos instead.
Look who made it! I don't feel like I need to elaborate, honestly. Though one could make a case for Flygon or Salamence, the actual Gen 3 mon that almost made it was Gardevoir. But you and I both know that's an Athena mon.
Also, while I'm trying hard to avoid too much personal bias, I can't help it with this gen. I won't be hearing arguements against Absol's inclusion.
This was the easiest one. Because I chose the pre-evolutions for Weavile and Honchkrow previously. LMAO
This is a big region, so there are plenty of other decent options. I just think the ones I chose are cooler Pokémon. Nobody cares about Unfezant, Bisharp is cooler. Nobody cares about Swanna, Zoroark is cooler.
For a small dex, I was presented with a challenge. Then I looked at the starters and said "all of these suck, I'm not picking any of them." Besides, Yveltal is infinitely more badass than any of those starters, so maybe he just started with Yveltal. Then I remembered Hawlucha isn't a bird, so I told myself to avoid that one, too. This is what I ended up with.
Yes, I did just imply Malamar is cooler than Greninja. Because it's true.
As much as I adore Alola and Gen 7, I was shocked when I found this to be the hardest one yet, aside from the starter. I felt obligated to pick The Bird at this point, though I'm not sure I feel Toucannon is a great pick overall. I want to consider Golisopod, though I don't really want to pick the main mon of a prominent character in story. Also, since Oricorio can change formes easily enough, I don't think forme matters too much.
Even easier than gen 4. As it should be, given that the region's dex is just as painfully British as Simon himself is. Why isn't Swanna in Galar, though? I'd have chosen it here.
Hisui may have a small amount of additions, but there was enough for me to work with. I think Arcanine could work, too, given that the species has "guardian" lore & speed theming. Note: Samurott is probably on par with Decidueye for appropriateness.
AND FINALLY. THE BIRD REGION.
If you wanted it to be all birds, Ceruledge can be swapped for Kilowattrel, but nothing about that mon seems particularly Simon to me other than "its a burd lol". Ceruledge on the other hand IS SORD. Also, the honourable mention goes to the lazy-ass Kingambit.
Feel free to pick & choose from things I mentioned here if you want, lol, I just wanted to have fun making this tbh and I did

SilveeLocke | Let's Go Eevee ZombieLocke | Pt.12
_(;^; _) This was a troublesome chapter to write, but I am back on the plot train of where my thoughts are connecting and I can't wait to continue the story. Things are getting hectic irl, and once my chapters I'm posting to my Tumblr catch up with the posts on the Amino I'm going to take a Hiatus so I can draw some more of our protagonist and her pokémon.

Part 12: Mind over Matter

>Part 1
>Meet Silviana
>Meet Xander
“Well if you want to know what’s wrong why don’t you just ask him.” A mysterious voice spoke up.
Silviana looked up to see a stranger dressed in pure white clothing, she had on a loose top that flowed gently with the breeze coming from Vermilion City and white jeans that had a dark gradient from the top to bottom. She had on extremely tall platform shoes and if SIlviana had to guess, the woman looked a little shorter than her. What really caught Silvian’s eye though was her completely pale complexion.
This stranger was paler than any person Silviana has met and when she pulled down her big sunglasses, beautiful blue eyes looked down at her. Her pearl white hair was covered by a large sun hat with a big black ribbon wrapped around it.
Silviana was somewhat astonished looking at this beautiful woman, she opened and closed her mouth. Trying to speak but having nothing but air escape her lungs.
The woman chuckled a little bit, she set down her bag and slowly sat down next to Silviana.
Caliouse looked curiously at her, while Junipur perked up at the newcomer.
“You look like you could use a friend, and maybe some advice? If I’m not mistaken.”
Silviana nodded.
The fair skinned woman put two fingers to her mouth and let out a high pitched whistle. Silviana saw a shadow pass quickly overhead and from nowhere, a bird pokémon lands on the stranger’s arm she had held out for it.
“This is Nia, I brought her with me from my own region, she’s helping me look for someone, but I think that you may need my help right now. I can sense lots of distress coming from both your pokémon.” The woman threw a quick concerned look at Silviana's pokémon.
“Both?” Silviana pulled her head forward.
Junipur had sat up and made her way over to the stranger. The woman held out her hand for Junipur to sniff.
“I- I wouldn’t do–”
Junipur pushed her head into the woman’s hand. She let the woman gently scratch under her chin.
Silviana looked at Junipur, astonished at the affection she showed to this stranger and not to her own trainer, “How did you…”
The stranger laughed, “I may not be able to speak to pokémon, but I have empathetic connections toward them.” She scratched Junipur’s back.
The little Eevee let out a small ‘Vee’ and the woman went back to scratching her under the chin. Nia hopped off the woman’s arm and onto the ground next to them.
“She’s upset you know,” The woman said after a minute of petting Junipur, she had on a calm but somber look to her fair facial features, “She knows she can be more and can do so more. I can feel her frustration in this.”
Silviana looked to Junipur.
Do you think you need to evolve into something different for me to think you are strong? I love you how you are, no matter if you evolve or not.
Silviana couldn’t bring herself to say this out loud.
“And this one,” she emphasized ‘this’ and pulled up Caliouse to lay him on her lap. The Charmander adjusted himself and let his head hang over her knee, he had on a soft smile.
“This one is feeling all sorts of turmoil right now.” She pet him some more, “He’s upset about how he is now,” she furrowed her brows and looked up at Silviana questioningly, “What happened to him that could cause him to hate himself so much.”
As Silviana explained how she found him, the woman’s features relaxed in understanding.
“It’s no wonder he feels this much betrayal. He thinks you may want what that evil man wanted.”
“But that’s just not true.” Silviana quickly replied worriedly.
“Of course it’s not true, this is obvious with his great need to please you.”
“Please me? He’s my pokémon, not my slave.”
The woman closed her eyes and softly smiled, “You seem like quite a capable trainer, so you’ll learn more about your pokémon the more you bond with them. Talk to him, to all of them. Tell them your frustrations, your hopes,” she gave a quick chuckle, “tell them that you thought this boy you saw at the market was cute.”
Silviana gave an amused looked to the woman’s funny example.
“Showing more about yourself will get them to open up to you. You never know how much this affection will make them respond to your commands, your affections, and they could even demonstrate power you’ve never seen before. I’ve seen it with my beautiful Oricorio baby, I’m sure you can see it in your pokémon too.”
With that, she proceeded to get up, “Well I need to look for my friend before he gets himself in more trouble than is worth.” She dusted off her pants.
Silviana looked up to her, “Thank you for the advice.”
“Of course, happy to help.” She slung her bag over her shoulder and waved to Silviana, “Alola.” She then gave a small gesture to Nia. The bird pokémon looked at Silviana, it gave a show of its feather fans and bowed.
Silviana nodded her head to the pokémon and watched it take off after its trainer.
She looked at her own two pokémon, “Well, I guess that would be our cue to go to then.” She got up from where she sat, “Let’s head on while we have a little chat.” She paused for half a second putting on her bag and decided to get into it before she headed out. Taking out all of her pokéballs, she took out all of the pokémon she had thus far.
“While we all have a chat.” She looked at each of her pokémon, seven different and clearly unique creatures looked back at her. She squatted and looked at Junipur who was looking back at her through squinted eyes. Silviana opened her arms, “You and I especially.”
Junipur flicked her tail a little bit, but she walked to Silviana’s extended arms and let the girl slowly pick her up.
Silviana cradled Junipur carefully in her arms. She smiled a little brighter as she walked toward Diglett cave. Each of her pokémon took a spot either to the side of her or behind her while she walked. Even Riot flew close behind her as they walked.
Silviana kept her eyes forward as she talked to Junipur first, “Fist, I wanted to say that you don’t need to be strong for me to love and appreciate you. I want you to know that I trust you with all that I am. And the reason we train is so you can get stronger silly.” She saw Junipur look up at her from the corner of her eye, “And I will only have you evolve if you feel completely comfortable with it.” She saw Junipur’s ears flick back.
Hmm...
Silviana and her group walked through the mouth of the cave and down the gentle slope that led them onward. The cave naturally got cooler as they continued deeper. Tiny squeaks of Zubat and the patter of her pokémons’ feet against the hard gravel could be heard. Sometimes the ground shifted and dragged as a pokémon moved beneath it.
“You know it’s kinda the same thing I told Caliouse too,” she looked down at the charmander as they walked, “Only you know when it is time to evolve, I’m not going to force you. But evolving is what pokémon do!” She smiled and giggled at him, “It’s how you naturally become stronger.” Caliouse looked up to her with large eyes, he blinked a couple times and looked forward again, a bit more energy in him than when he had left the Vermilion Gym.
“But if you want to become stronger,” She looked back to the seemingly endless tunnel in front of her, “we’re going to have to work together.” She looked down to see a mildly grumpy look on Junipur’s face. She tried not to sigh as she continued, “That means listening to my commands and not fighting with your teammates. We are all on this journey together and it’s going to be a bit rough if we’re not all on the same page.” Silviana saw Junipur’s head roll, but the little Eevee dropped her head to rest it on her arm.
I hope I’m getting through to you, the last thing I want is for you to get hurt because of something I did.
Silviana continued to tell them little stories from before she went off on her journey, many stories about her mom’s own adventures in the Johto region. She could feel everyone's spirits lifted a little bit after she carefully talked to them.
The pathway was starting to get brighter too, no longer being mostly lit by Caliouse’s flame, as they neared the end of the tunnel. Little bits of dust dropped from the ceiling, Silviana stopped and casually blew the dust off her shoulder. As her pokémon stopped with her something caught her ears.
A low rumbling was echoing around the cave. Something else echoed behind her. She could hear deep cackling laughter and as the rumbling got closer so did the laughing.
Riot squawked. Silviana looked over to see what had happened, the large bird was rubbing his head with a wing. He looked up again to quickly block another rock with both of his wings, the rock bounced heavily off his wing-shield. Riot opened his feathers to take to the air.
“Nope! Don’t fly in this!” Silviana quickly pulled Riot back into his pokéball. She felt more gravel shower her head and the rumbling grew louder.
“Guys we have to get out of here,” the cackling grew louder as well, “now!” She sprinted down the tunnel. More rocks pelted her as she ran down the tunnel, she pulled Josee and Caliouse back into their pokeballs. She heard quacking behind her and skid to a stop.
Amare was a little ways behind her but the rumbling wasn’t helping her waddle any faster.
“I’m coming!” Silviana put Junipur down and shielded her head. She bent down and picked up Amare only managing to trip over one of the larger rocks that was falling from the ceiling.
Oh no! Please someone help me!
She covered Amare with her body feeling more rocks pelting her back.
“Vee vee!” She heard Junipur cry out and no longer felt rocks hitting her body.
Looking up carefully she saw boK choY and Trahp, both having their vines extended striking rocks out of the way above Silviana and Amare. Junipur was on top of boK choY’s sprout shouting more commands to Trahp and boK choY while Trouble was shooting larger pieces of the ceiling away from the grass pokémon. Junipur took one long look at Silviana and held her gaze.
“Yes! Good work Junipur! Good job you three!” Silviana scrambled to race toward them and once again all of her pokémon were racing beside her to the exit.
The tunnel was less than 100 yards away when she saw something above her. There were large brown lumps moving across the ceiling. She squinted her eyes, the brown lumps that shifted across the ceiling bobbed in and out as they threw more rocks and displaced larger stones.
Silviana growled, “Amare throw them off their game!” She commanded as she held Amare in her arms.
Amare let off a psybeam and hit many of the Dugtrios on the ceiling. The pokémon trickled down the sides of the tunnel.
“Look at how good you’ve gotten! You might be ready to evolve soon too!” She heard Amare quack at the praise. Silviana beamed at how close they were to the exit so she put Trahp back in her ball. She noticed the large support rocks around the entrance start to shift.
“boK choY! Let’s hurry up and get out!” She saw the little Ivysaur gallop faster and extended her vines forward. Silviana shielded her eyes as the bright white light from outside shone through the entrance. Silviana quickly ducked and went through the exit that boK choY was holding up.
Stepping out onto the soft dirt of the outside she smiled. Trouble ran past her and bumped her leg, she set down Amare who happily chased after the Squirtle. They both rolled around in the grass shooting little sprays of water at each other. Silviana couldn’t help but smile and laugh at her pokémon.
She felt Junipur paw at her ankle, “What’s up Junipur?” She looked down at her.
Junipur was looking between Silviana and the mouth of the cave. Silviana raised an eyebrow and looked behind her.
She put her hands to her mouth and gasped, “boK choY!”

usum ramblings below! only read if you don’t mind spoilers
tbh i think i am enjoying ultra moon more than its predecessor! which is extraordinary because the original sumo was god tier. somehow, even with the minor changes there’s been thus far (i imagine the storyline will take a different route once lusamine’s schemes are revealed or when more ultra beasts show up) it feels? more fun i suppose? especially w/ all the new mini-games introduced + being able to play w/ random pokemon in the overworld... not to mention, the totem pokemon are 5x stronger than i remember. this is the first time they’ve proven to be a challenge to me. especially in the electric trial.... that totem togedemaru... i spent a majority of my potions because it practically destroyed my whole team.
i love how they’re giving more development to hau too! lillie was the central theme of the original sumo but now it feels like hau has become a protagonist alongside you? although, i am hoping they flesh all the characters out! that’s one of the main things i look for in pokemon games, after all. like, i really hope the ultra recon squad are given more backstory.... i find their whole motive so far to be very intruging in comparison to lusamine, who i never appreciated as a villain for.... obvious reasons. also, i didn’t realize how much i missed team skull’s antics until they showed up in usum again. best team honestly.
i’m progressing through the game seemingly quickly, but i heard the storyline itself is 60+ hours so i’ve barely put a dent in it. i’m excited to see what’s to come, however! oh oh, my current team is primarina (mikleo jr.), lycanroc dusk form (sorey), oricorio (lailah), tsareena (edna), golisopod (zaveid), and mimikyu (dezel)! all the names are inspired by zestiria lmao. i think it’s pretty solid, though! especially my golisopod... i can see why guzma adores it so much; it’s a powerhouse.
that’s all of my ramblings for now! once i advance further in the game i’ll probably post more, but i truly am enjoying usum so far! somehow, moreso than its predecessors!

Who will my next friend be?
I’ve been getting an all-shiny, all-ghost, all-moon ball team together for pokemon Ultra Sun, and with yesterday’s Drifloon, I’m almost done! So far I’ve got:
From left to right Boney Boy the Cubone (not a ghost yet, but he will be when he evolves), a yet unnamed male Drifloon, a yet-unnamed female Oricorio, a yet unnamed agender Dhelmise, and Spooky Boy the Mimikyu.
Suggestions for names on the yet unnamed members of the team are still greatly appreciated, but what I really need help with, and what this post is mainly about, is picking the last member of the team. If the team were just any shiny ghost, then it would be an easy choice, as I’d just go with pumkaboo or shuppet, favorites with cool shinies that I don’t have yet. But those can’t be caught in moon balls, at least not yet. That extra restriction leaves leaves me with the following options:
Sandygast
Pros: Shiny Palosand looks amazing.
Cons: I already have a Shiny Palosand, albeit not one in a moon ball. I do eventually want a shiny of every ghost pokemon, so I suppose I could just... not evolve it? But a ‘fill in’ younger shiny isn’t really something I want to devote a team slot on.
Sableye
Pros: Sableye is literally my favorite pokemon, and I haven’t used a Sableye in a play through since since Tourmaline on my last gen 6 team.
Cons: I have like three shiny Sableyes already, including the aforementioned Tourmaline, who I still occasionally use. And, honestly? Shiny sableye is not one of my favorite shiny palettes among ghost pokemon. Going from the usual purple to yellow isn’t bad, I like that in the Drifloon line, but Shiny sableye’s yellow is much more drab, sort of mustardy. And then it has yellow eyes on top of that? Yellow on yellow isn’t a great choice, IMO. A brighter or paler yellow, with bright shiny green or yellow eyes would have been so much better. Shiny Mega Sableye improves somewhat with green eyes, but the yellow’s still a bit drab, and it’s big green gem could really stand to be brighter/shinier/more saturated.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike shiny sableye / mega sableye. It’s colors are good, better than a lot of shinies out there, but when it’s my favorite pokemon overall being just a few obvious tweaks away from being fantastic is just frustrating.
Honedge
Pros: the shiny colors for this entire evolutionary line look amazing. And a second dash of red would help Dhelmise fit into the rest of the lineup aesthetically.
Cons: I already have a shiny Aegislash - Morikhane from the same team as my shiny Sableye Tourmaline. So If I want to use this pokemon to further my overall collection of shiny ghost pokemon, I’d have to refrain from using a dusk stone on him, leaving him in his secondary evolution as Duoblade. However, Duoblade’s actually a pretty strong and cool pokemon in its own right. Nowhere near as strong as Aegislash, of course, but still interesting, and plays completely differently. I could definitely see myself being happy with a shiny Duoblade on my team.
Ghastly
Pros: Gengar is the classic ghost pokemon, and while its shiny colorations is one of the famously bad ones (going from purplish to a barely distinguishable navy blue), shiny mega gengar’s striking white coloration is fantastic. Plus, even with the nerf to Gengar in gen 7, it’s still just a good, strong pokemon to have on the team.
Cons: As with Sableye and Aegislash, I already have a shiny Gengar - Mama Gengar from the same team as the others. However, unlike my other Shinies, Mama Gengar is not a pokemon I caught or hatched myself, she was a halloween event givaway from several years back, so there’s be a certain personal satisfaction to obtaining a shiny gengar on my own, in particular one I could give an actual nickname to. But it would still probably be less exciting than adding a completely new shiny to my collection.
Snorunt
Pros: Snorunt isn’t a ghost pokemon, but one of its two possible evolutions, Froslass, is. And Froslass is a very cool pokemon, if you’ll forgive the pun. Fast, has spikes, etc. I haven’t played a Froslass since the same Halloween event that I got Mama Gengar from, and have never used on in an actual play through.
Cons: Shiny Froslass’s colors aren’t very exciting. She trades an orangish-red ribbon for a pinkish-red ribbon. That’s it, nothing else changes. Granted, I at least like the pinkish-red ribbon better, but still. Worse, only female Snorunts can evolve into Froslass, cutting the odds of hatching the right pokemon in half. With exactly three weeks to go, the odds would still be in favor of me hatching one in time, but do I want to risk that? How frustrating would it be to get to hatch one or two shiny males, but no shiny females?
Litwick
Pros: Cute as a button! And I’ve never used or bred Chandelures before, shiny or otherwise. Chandelure is a pretty strong pokemon, one of those competitive ghost pokemon that I’d really like to have available to adopt from Sception’s Sleepy Sepulcher, so going for a shiny litwick for the team would fill a gap there.
Cons: I’m not a huge fan of Shiny Chandelure’s colors. They’re fine, not bad, and they’re noticeably distinct from regular Chandelure, with orange flames instead of blue, but in this case I might have actually preferred if it stuck to Litwick’s barely distinguishable ‘slightly brighter blue’, because blue fire is spooky and ghostly, and orange fire is just regular fire, you know? Also, we’ll already have a ghost/fire pokemon on the team with Alolan Marowak, though we have two ghost/flying pokes already, so it’s not like that really bothers me.
Misdreavus
Pros: I like Misdreavus/Mismagius a lot. They’re cool pokemon. Often overshadowed by Gengar over the years, but less so in 7th edition now that Gengar no longer has levitate. And I’ve never used them at all.
Cons: Again, I’m not a huge fan of the shiny colors. I get it, sure, Misdreavus is a witchy pokemon, and green has been associated with witches since the Wizard of Oz movie, but olive green just isn’t the most exciting coloration, and Mismagius’s brighter green isn’t a huge improvement, imo.
Phantump
Pros: Shiny Phantump/Trevenant’s colors are fantastic, with striking white bark and red autumn leaves that remind me of my favorite time of the year. And I’ve never used Trevenant before, so, as with Chandelure or Mismagius, it would be a new experience.
Cons: While it looks cool, Trevenant is not an especially strong pokemon. Grass/ghost, like grass/anything really, is not an especially good typing - why oh why does grass have so many weaknesses? and why does gamefreak keep treating grass as a bulky typing with slow defensive pokemon largely undone by being weak to so many attacks? Even among the now four different options for fully evolved grass/ghost pokemon, Trevenant is probably my least favorite, and one of those grass/ghost pokemon I like better is already on my team. Again, though, I already have two ghost/flying types, so it’s not like type overlap is my biggest concern, and Trevenant plays very differently from Dhelmise, so I don’t think it would feel redundant.
...........................
Overall, there’s a lot of cons to this bunch, being mostly pokemon that I either already have shinies of, or I’m not super excited about their shiny colors, or I’m not particularly thrilled with their game mechanics. Again, if Pumpkaboo or Shuppet or Frillish or Nincada or Golett or Yamask could be obtained in moon balls one of those would definitely have taken the last spot. But there are no bad pokemon, and whichever of the above pokemon ends up on the team, I will love them just as much as all the others.
Right now, I’m leaning towards Honedge, Litwick, or Phantump, but I really could end up settling on any of the above, especially if I get some help deciding.

Let's not forget that Rev. dance has good synergy with Tera too. It's like Tera blast but stronger.
#oricorio#pokemon scarvi#pokemon scarlet#pokemon gen 9#pokemon violet#This is an ORICORIO APPRECIATION POST#GUYS OMG GUESS WHAT??#ORICORIO IS FINALLY FUCKING VIABLE#YEEEAAAAHHH#If I ever get one#it's gonna be pom pom form#and it's gonna be named “Zapdos Junior”#also as to why it's bad in competitive#uhhh#below average stats#I think its highest is 90?#that....isnt ideal in comp#whicy is why Quiverdance is such a big deal

Please tell us about your punch out pokemon au!!
I APPRECIATE YOU ASKING… I wrote a post about it but I didn’t finish it so it’s just been in my drafts haha but I have a lot more stuff to say cause I’ve been thinking on it more
anyways this got long cause I have a lot to say so it’s under the cut!
now like the major question to be answered is how the whole thing works. like is this a Pokemon League?? is it still boxing?? is it a weird hybrid of both??
for sake of this I kinda think it’s like >pokemon battle >then a match
like idk I feel like they’d be into doing both. I’m not sure though, if there would have to be travelling involved, cause how would you obtain a team (aside from a starter which you’d get from Doc), unless maybe a challenge was you’d be given an option of like
anyhow I think Little Mac’s starter is a Mienfoo or a Tyrogue. tbh I just in general like Mienfoo more but Tyrogue makes sense cause it can evolve into Hitmonchan which has… you guessed it… fucking boxing gloves. he could have a Mienfoo later at some point.
OH YOU KNOW WHAT THEY COULD DO. if there wasn’t a travelling aspect (or even if there was), maybe after each fight you win, you can pick a (base) pokemon that your opponent had. not like, it’s not theirs, but the same species if you feel me. Little Mac is not kidnapping people’s pokemon. so like for example if you beat Piston Hondo and he had like, Mienshao, Samurott, and Dragonair, you could pick either a Mienfoo, Oshawott, or Dratini.
he wouldn’t have to use whatever he chose but yeah. he could probably still catch stuff but this is like… an incentive and maybe you only got the choice if you got a TKO or something. and these guys you know, sometimes they have some pretty rare or powerful pokes so it would be to his benefit. but you could choose.
and I think that the WVBA would be like a hybrid, sort of unofficial pokemon league. like if we were translating the universe to the Pokeverse, this would not be an official Pokemon League, like this would be an offshoot of the Unovan league. or. something. but like they still give out badges and shit (coincidentally there is the exact right amount of boxers to make a complete league) anf like if you became Champion it’d be a big deal but it wouldn’t be “official” as being a League Champ. I could imagine there being smaller offshoots of Leagues throughout the world, especially in a country as big as America/Unova, so it’d be still considering pretty important but also
Little Mac deserves to just be champ, but I think if the boxing element still exists then it’s like chill. imo the two (as a boxer/trainer) add up to make something really important, if that makes any sense.
oh, and evil teams.
the evil team is all the other Punch Out fighters who don’t appear and the boss is Gabby Jay (/s)
or you could just say that the bitterness of losing to Little Mac forced the boxers to come together and be dicks but idk. probably no villain if you ask me! or if there seriously is, Mr. Dream is the boss.
anyways enough about the baseline
probably something that’s just the Style™ of the WVBA is that everyone uses seals and each boxer has their own unique seal. Glass Joe probably just has like the letter A during his first fight cause it’s all he had, and Little Mac is like “what does the A stand for?” and Joe is like “…………it’s the only seal decoration I have”, but later has his actual name and then some sparkles to make up the French flag’s colors, Mr. Sandman has tan sparkles (like sand, obviously) and letters to spell out DREAMLAND, Disco Kid has a bunch of music notes, etc etc
And tbh in my opinion, no one specializes in one type which is what makes them distinct from a typical/”official” Pokemon League, though they can have multiple of the same type to the point of it dominating their team (Don Flamenco, for example, might have a lot of Fire types or Aran Ryan might have a lot of Dark types).
but IF THEY DID specialize in types, Joe wouldn’t specialize/Water, Von Kaiser is Normal, Disco Kid is uhh, King Hippo is UHHH Ground maybe, Hondo is maybe Dragon, Bear Hugger is Grass, Great Tiger is UHHHH Psychic, Don FLamenco is Fire, Aran Ryan is Dark, Soda Popinski is Ice, Bald Bull is…….. Rock maybe, Super Macho Man is Fighting, and Mr Sandman is anyn type he damn well pleases
I don’t know. I made some mock teams for everyone and tbh they all vary, it’s based on theme more than type. I couldn’t come up with full teams for everyone. it’s really hard and I can’t be assed to do it but generally, this. idk when these teams would be but like, this generally the pokemon they’d use, whether it’d be pre-evos or whatever depending on the time.
in Contender Joe has 5 Magikarp, one of which is shiny and his signature, and a Feebas, all level 15 during Contender. They all can’t do anything but Mac’s Pokemon is like level 5. so it takes a little to beat them and it’s like (7 hours later) AND THE WINNER IS LITTLE MAC. Boxing Glass Joe is considerably easier. Title Defense I think he has like, Magikarp (he likes Magikarp), Gyarados, Milotic, Furfrou, Blaziken. or if my shitposts are true at all it’s 6 level 100 Magikarp and he just stalls and all of them has Focus Sash. everyone hates him
Von Kaiser’s team (td, I guess, a lot of his pokes are just evos so it doesn’t need to be split into two) is like Staraptor, Octillery, Gogoat, Diggersby, and Stoutland as his signature. I always pictured Von Kaiser, like, during the contender he lets out his last Pokemon which is his sig Herdier, and the dog isn’t super well trained so it runs off and VK freaks out and Mac has to go catch the dog. He comes back like thirty minutes l8er exhausted with this pleased lookin pup. The dog just immediately goes to sleep and Mac wins but then like……. boy he’s lost a lot of physical energy for the fight. also Von Kaiser and the dog have the same exact mustache.
Disco Kid is a bit tough to pick out but he’s got like… Wigglytuff, Chatot, Bouffalant, Oricorio (Pom-Pom), Ludicolo, and maybe Primarina. Meloetta would be super fitting but it’s a fucking Legendary but let’s say he had it, it’d be his sig for sure. idk which of these would be his sig otherwise, maybe Oricorio since it was like the first one I thought of for him. Not terribly remarkable because I can’t think of SHIT I’m sorry I’ve failed you Disco Kid
King Hippo has Toucannon, Passimian, Alolan Exeggutor, Loudred, Snorlax, and his sig is Hippowdon. Hippowdon is fucking terrifying. It’s like clear King Hippo and the Pokemon are having a conversation and it is horrific and Little Mac is alarmed. Hippowdon creates a sand pit in the ring that makes it hard for Mac’s pokes to move, and it eventually takes uprooting the hippo from its sandpile to knock it out. King Hippo is fucking rough too, its pretty much like fighting an upright Hippowdon. Mac wins by the normal means but also by King Hippo slipping on the sand and fucking wiping.
then comes Piston Hondo. He takes his Pokemons very seriously, Leagues originated there after all. He probably was a brief champ of Kanto or some shit, and it kind of shows where shit starts getting real or w/e. He’s got Oricorio (Sensu), Mienshao, Gallade, Dragonair, Ninetales, and Samurott as his sig. He’s got a hard-hitting style, but he also strikes me as the type to be a staller just to fuck with people. I figure that KOing a whole team isn’t always reasonable, so sometimes the best option is to stall, and at the end of the Trainer match they figure out who wins based on the number of fainted Pokes (and how much helath the other pokes have) but idk. I’m not sure his Pokemon are terribly good for stalling but you kno what I mean.
Bear Hugger’s team is Swanna, Pachirisu, Bibarel, Stantler and Beartic as his sig. Little Mac watched him physically fight the Beartic once it was terrifying. The Pachirisu helps BH fight in td. I think his Pachirisu is reminiscent of that Pachirisu that was super badass in that pokemon tourney. Se Jun Park’s Pachirisu. yeah that one. so it’s like “oh ok– OH GOD NO” because it is Powerful™ so like overall I feel like Bear Hugger’s style is extremely unpredictable, he always goes against the grain and does stuff unexpected to catch you off guard.
Great Tiger specializes in…….. yes, you guessed it: cat Pokemon. He’s got Persian, Purugly, Liepard, Luxray, Incineroar as his sig, and… Medicham. because why not. idk how many of these fucks can learn Double Team but yep that’s like 90% of his strategy is just using Double Team 500 times and then fucking you up cause you can’t hit them. regardless you kno he’s cheatin so they ALL know it. his style is also, Double Team-ing Medicham and then spamming Focus Punch. Better stock up on tms for moves that always hit!
Don Flamenco was probably one of the easiest to make a team for. He’s def got Tauros, Oricorio (Baile), Pyroar, Talonflame, and Roserade as his sig. Not sure about the 6th slot. Oh maybe Luvdisc. It’s useless but maybe Carmen likes Luvdisc so he uses one in honor of her. That’s so adorable I feel good just thinking about it! dnsjfndjk what if his team got Super Edgy™ for TD. Gothitelle, Pangoro, Charizard X, Bisharp, Absol, shiny Roserade lol. He’s one of the only people who violently changes his team cause he’s gotta show that he’s not like the other boxers!!11!!!!
Aran Ryan is a cheatsy motherfucker. this must be established first and foremost. His Pokemon, in and of themselves, are not cheatsy. But he probably cheats like hell during. His team is Sawsbuck, Crobat, Muk, Midnight Lycanroc, Gengar, and his sig is Zoroark. Zoroark, of course, transforms into other Pokemon. Probably what he does is put Muk or Crobat in the last slot so Zoro will transform into one of those. There’s a likelihood Mac will switch to a Psychic pokemon to fight the Poison, but JOKES ON YOU MAC!!! IT’S DARK TYPE AND IMMUNE TO PSYCHIC!!! this is not a cheatsy strategy tho. but he probably teaches his Pokemon to do dirty tricks and like, try to legitimately injure the other pokes. it’s total bs. why won’t anyone stop this mean fuck (because it’s fun). i also imagine he might try and have the Zoroark pretend it’s him for the first bit of a match for NO reason other than because it’s hilarious
So for Soda Popinski we’ve got Arcanine, Midday Lycanroc, Stantler, Mamoswine, Mandibuzz, and Ursaring as his sig. Not super set on that but yeah. His strat is just Hyper Potions, Hyper Potions, Hyper Potions! Mamoswine also has lots of hp, and I wanted to give him more pokes with huge amounts of hp but they just weren’t fitting. but wouldn’t it be cute if he had a Blissey or something? but he just heals relentlessly and it is infuriating. JUST LET THEM FAINT!! You’ve got to go with hard-hitting moves and stop him from healing!
Bald Bull’s got Feraligatr, Dusk Lycanroc, Kabutops, Gyarados, Hydreigon, and Tauros as his sig (of course!). Generally lots of strong, vicious Pokemon! His only strategy is hard-hitting physical damage. If you’ve got a physical wall then you’re in business! But still you’ve got to be careful. This dude ain’t fuckin around and his Pokemon are strong. He probably also uses Bide and Rage a lot, those are quite useful for his set up.
For Super Macho Man I bet his theme is Pokemon that are considered status symbols. But I don’t really know a lot of Pokemon like that off the top of my head! So maybe just in general, Pokemon that aren’t easy to obtain! He def has Alolan Persian (this is just a status symbol Poke), Milotic, Volcarona, Machamp (his signature), Porygon-Z, Dragonite. stuff like that. But his Pokemon are still decent, but they are his because they’re rare and they made him feel special! you can’t afford these pokes! get fucked! He’s a very flashy style of battler, focusing more on how cool moves look, but he’s still a huge threat! don’t underestimate him! (I feel like I’m starting to sound like Doc Louis with these tips haha)
Mr Sandman is almost a bit tough to pick Pokemon out for. He needs tough guys but also some Pokemon that he’d like to attach to his whole sleep/dream theme! He def has Hypno, just cause he likes Hypno!! But then he’s got Pokemon like Slaking, Garchomp, Lucario, maybe Spiritomb, and Scizor. all of the pokemon that can mega evolve have a mega stone, and depending on which is the most beneficial he’ll use that one, but he often goes to mega Garchomp. he relies on status conditions and hard-hitting moves and Pokemon.
whew!! and once Mac beats them all, he’s the Champ! idk what his team would be, I never really though about it aside from like… Hitmonchan (maybe), Mienshao (maybe). but yeah! this is generally kinda what I was thinking. I hope this all makes sense, I ramble a lot and sometimes I’m not super clear! thanks for asking!!!!
#asks#anon#Anonymous#pokemon tag#punch out tag#punchmon au#thanks!!!#I got really into this in case you couldn't tell haha...
