#This is also why I am not a fan of Dabi dying

Worst part of Dabi’s skin/muscle mostly burning off is that we don’t get to see any of his expressions, actually 😐 I find that extremely frustrating. Just a big ol’ skele face like:
O m O     w
I’m sure there’s “emotion” or w/e in his voice, but we get to see everyone ELSE’S faces, not his, just big wide white eyes and teeth (reads to me like what he’s feeling is not important, only what the other members of the Todoroki family feel is important). I also saw someone else comment on the fact that the villains can’t really counter the heroes words right now, especially in regards to Spinner, and Dabi.
Spinner I only KIND OF get because he got a second quirk and it obviously did not mesh well with him - pre-second quirk get Spinner would have been able to at least challenge Shoji more instead of drooling all over everything and being like “dun care”.
A similar thing is happening with Dabi - and like again I kind of get it, like he’s in so much pain he’s bouncing in and out of consciousness, but he doesn’t even get to actively converse with his family. He doesn’t actively get to challenge them.
Don’t take this as any real criticism of Horikoshi because tbqh I feel that he’s starting to rush to the end of the series for one reason or another. Dabi in particular being reduced to “burning himself so badly he can’t consciously form a coherent thought outside of old phrases he used to say” is so gross. Spinner being reduced to “dun care”, even if it’s a side-effect of having the gigantification quirk added to him, is gross.

I've been looking at some old Japanese villain fan tweets about Toga from Chapter 395, and most of them seem pretty okay with Toga's ending - her dying on her own terms. Which is 😕 to me but.
The overwhelming conclusion from both japanese hero and villain fans alike that no matter what, the League will be getting the death penalty. Maybe life in prison, but most agree it's the death penalty for Shigaraki, Toga, Dabi had he been less burned. Even Spinner and Compress, the less notorious members, might be getting it, because they were part of the terrorist cell. Not immediately that we would see in the epilogue, but eventually.
From the book The Culture of Capital Punishment in Japan:
...Murakami noted that “as a general argument, I adopt a stance of opposition toward the death penalty” but then said “I cannot publicly state, as far as this case is concerned, ‘I am opposed to the death penalty’,” because he had acquired “a painful awareness of the feelings of some bereaved families.”
By arguing that he opposes capital punishment but not in this case, Murakami is articulating a sensibility—the death penalty is “unavoidable” (yamu o enai)—that is ubiquitous in Japan’s culture of capital punishment. [...] Japan’s government uses it to ask citizens whether they support capital punishment (a typical survey question asks “Do you agree that the death penalty is unavoidable in some cases?”). The “unavoidable” expression simultaneously suggests that the death penalty “cannot be helped” and that the speaker is ambivalent about this purportedly “inescapable” outcome. The reservations wrapped in the expression suggest that Japanese capital punishment continues to operate because agents of the state (prosecutors, judges, politicians) and citizen-onlookers represent themselves, to themselves and others, as cogs in a machine over which they have little control.
This punishment simply is. Even in this fictional world. Even though a lot of the League were victims. Even if the villains we saw locked up in Tartarus are never put to execution, and the death penalty is only offhandedly mentioned.
And if this is inevitable in the League's future, then why not go out on your own terms? If death is certain, you might as well die by your own hand (Toga), or go out in battle (Shigaraki). (Never mind that Toga's death was preventable, and Shigaraki was possessed and all he got to do was help punch-kill AFO.) Japanese villain fans are upset about Dabi's fate, but from what I saw, it's mostly because he's meeting such a quiet end.
Another thought: perhaps it's because the Villains were saved, they also had to die. If you stay a unrepentant mofo, like Muscular, then you don't have the decency to recognize your sins and allow yourself to die. But if you were saved and recognize your sins, you have no choice but to die for all the deaths you caused.
(Again, I don't think that works quite for the League, who stay pretty unrepentant about the upheaval they caused??? especially Toga, who states that she was gonna skeddadle; but in a way, she recognized that she hurt Ochako, so she gave up her blood.)
(also. to say nothing of Enji and Hawks being alive. or even Nagant. But some japanese fans are at least upset that Enji and Hawks aren't going to receive any in-universe official punishment for what they did.)

I've been thinking a lot of deep thoughts about the end of MHA, so I've decided to spit them all out here rather than letting them live in my brain 24/7.
The more time that passes, the more satisfied I am with the ending, particularly with the deaths of the villains. The ending is definitely not what I would write or choose if I had the option, but I think I'm savvy enough these days to recognize the difference between "this is not my preference" and "this is poor writing." I'm also looking in from the perspective of consuming MHA for enjoyment and entertainment, whereas I believe the author was writing this ending in an attempt to make a political/literary statement, not to please the masses.
All of the most sympathetic and tragic members of the League of Villains met grisly ends by the time the manga wrapped up, and I don't think that's a coincidence. Twice, Toga, Dabi, and Shigaraki were all fan favorites with deeply moving backstories, but that didn't save them from dying. You can say they were all doomed by the narrative, but I think these characters were doomed by their own choices at every turn.
All of these characters - to varying extents - had the opportunity to stop their villainy, but were too dedicated to a certain cause or obsession to do so. Dabi is the most obvious example, as he could have returned to his family at literally any time and saved all of the Todorokis a lot of strife, but the others were also offered outs by the heroes they interacted with, and they all chose death and destruction over surrender.
I'm trying to make a point here but it's kinda hard to verbalize.
Basically, I think Horikoshi wanted to show us that it doesn't matter how "good" or "bad" you are as a person, it doesn't matter how moving your story is, it doesn't matter how deeply you believe in your cause, it doesn't matter if you love your comrades - your actions are the things that matter. As beloved and tragic as all of these characters are, they still murdered and maimed many innocent people, they still destroyed cities and hospitals, they still tortured families and loved ones.
Those innocent people are the ones who really suffer in bloody coups. I genuinely do not give a shit about anyone's ideals if they consider everyday people as acceptable canon fodder for the revolution. The LOV's ideals, Stain's ideals, the PLF's ideals, whatever you want to call it, are not worth the abject destruction of society over.
AFO and other power-hungry dictators feed off of people like Twice, Toga, Dabi, and Shigaraki. People who suffer from mental illness, who are estranged from their families, and who are rejected by society. The LOV was used by more powerful forces to commit horrific acts. As engaging as those characters are individually, they still fell prey to a violent ideology that offered nothing for them and everything to the person in power.
I guess what I'm saying is that it's easy for even the best of us to get wrapped up in some "cause" and end up suffering over it, or causing others to suffer. I think Horikoshi was trying to make a statement about who ends up paying the price in war and I'm finally accepting that statement. Those deaths were meant to hurt and they did, and I think that's why some readers hate it so much.
I've got more to say about the whole "they didn't fix hero society!!" stuff, but I'll gather those thoughts later.

I'm someone who isn't interested in content surrounding OCs. People are free to create them and to whatever with them and good for them but I'm just not interested in them. I once very politely asked some vocal anti to give tags when they share something and they just got pissed at me. Saying that every character be it canon or not is someones OC and I should respect them. This person also constantly screeches about boundaries and all that stuff but apparently it only goes one way. It's okay to ignore someones boundaries if one doesn't think something worthy of tagging.
I dunno. Once again shows hypocrisy at its finest at the side of the antis.
Disgusting content and all that aside: still thinking that I rather hang out with shippers than those snowflake antis who weep when someone is a bit harsher than usual but decide to ignore boundaries if they think they are "pointless"
so far I feel like OC content has always been tagged on your end (if it does show up) so I'm very thankful for that. Also I know you won't give me shit for my opinion. I'm just not interested in some special OC Karen/Kevin who is all the genders and none and wants to fuck the twins or any of that nonsense... as well as all the projection into the depot agents... a-nnoy-ing. But other people are free to like them. I am just not interested.
sorry for the little vent this has been boiling inside of me for a while and I needed to get it out of the system... honestly I'm thankful for your blog and content and even if you're often harsh with your words I think you're a cool and fun person to have around. Aside the rants I also enjoy your in depth character analysis or when you write your opinions on something. It makes me curious and interested even if I'm out of the loop with the franchise! Thank you for your content and I hope you're having a great time!
Do you mean like self-inserts? -Or OCs in general created to be shipped with a popular character? I usually don't pay attention unless I really like them. I can only think of a few off the top of my head. IE: ceciloque and the artist who did something cute with Volo. Neither did ships. One was a protag friends with the Subway Twins, the other hated Volo in a facetious way. I also liked the Generic Protag guy but lost interest in him when he made Gene leave Hisui (also the artist soft blocked me, so I don't show up in the tags).
I could see someone getting annoyed with OCs if they do that thing where they make a Mary Sue OC with a harem of OC partners and who goes around making every single canon character fall for them. The two things that aggravate my OCD are off models and implausible cross overs. Extra points if they cover both. You might have read some of my rants in the past, like the most aggravating one of all is when someone makes the Subway Bosses not twins anymore. IE: What if one was a guy and the other was a unicorn? -Or a dog. -Or a fugly mermaid? -Or a llama that vaguely resembles Arceus? (Had to dig up the original post that started a certain tag).
None of that stuff really bothers me on the general tags because I get why people do it. People want to come up with reasons to keep their interest going, and when content runs out with canon, then AUs keep the character alive for them. It's funny with me personally, I can keep myself occupied posting literally the same thing for years, but of course it's not going to be enough because interests change.
Thought of that today when I queued up yet another fan art of Dabi and Shoto sitting side-by-side eating soba together, and that's the equivalent of a Submas reunion hug in my mind, although with Dabi it might have a darker meaning. He might be lying in his tank barely alive having that thought of eating soba with his brother circulating through his mind in a continuous loop. He's done being mad and wants to think of something happier than dying.
I'm about to be guilty of creating a Geten x OC for my latest fan fiction to keep it going, just because I got stuck on the ending. I needed a female character with a specific ability, and the only person who had said ability was one of the advisors for Team Brown: Support Regiment which will create more content to give Geten and Mr. Compress something to talk about when they are eventually incarcerated in adjacent rooms. I decided to make my OC a sibling to to that unnamed advisor. It's me creating an OC but staying within canon. If I were motivated and adverturous enough to keep the thing going past manga canon ending, I'd still keep it in the MHA universe.
I wouldn't be like, "Let's do My Hero Academia Star Wars! -And make Geten a mermaid pirate and Dabi a succubus werewolf with a double-sided light saber!" That would be the exact sort of shit that would drive me up the wall.

BNHA Chapter 295: The Hero Who Saves Everyone
Oh god
Tumblr media
On the one hand, I feel bad cause Deku’s bleeding and in pain. On the other, he’s weirdly beautiful in this panel. Like Toga during her fight with Curious.
Tumblr media
YES WORRY ABOUT THAT BOYFRIEND FIRST (and also check on the other one!)
Tumblr media
I HEAR YA DEKU. You three had better be all alive so I can enjoy your movie this summer without breaking down in feels.
QUIRK #4 ALERT!!!!
Tumblr media
Yup it’s Spider-Sense. Exactly what I thought. All six quirks are gonna be Spider-Man related. Confirmed. Now we’ve got strength, webs, and spider-sense. What’s left? Wall cling? (wait Spidey can’t float like Nana never mind). Maybe instead they’re all riffs on the Class A girls quirks. Float, Tsuyu’s tongue whip thing, senses like Jiro.
Tumblr media
Have Jiro train you in the future please. I need more of you and Jiro. Also look how fierce. Limbs all destroyed, boyfriends and mentors dying, bad  guys escaping and he’s like “YOU WANNA PIECE OF THIS!?”
Tumblr media
I’m starting to think Compress really is gonna die.
Tumblr media
Spinner/Shiggy fans must be loving this chapter
Tumblr media
LOL AFO is a believer in the Power of Friendship confirmed. I mean, he is a smart Shounen villain who seems to be well aware of all the cliches, so.
Tumblr media
WHAT?! Shiggy you’re not, like, actually dead are you? You still have so much character development to go through!
Tumblr media
That echo though.
Tumblr media
WOW Touya really made a name for yourself now huh! The heroes are like “DABI GETTIN AWAY! OH AND ALSO THE GREATEST SUPERVILLAIN OF ALL TIME BUT DABI! GET HIM!” (to be Fair Hado may just be holding a grudge for the whole “set me on fire thing”.)
Tumblr media
KACCHAN PLEASE BE OK TODO PLEASE BE OK DON’T YOU TWO DARE DIE
Tumblr media
The fuck is that? Is that a noomu?! (3..2...1...) HOLY FUCK IT’S DEKU. You scared me you seriously look demonic AF right now.
Tumblr media
OH MY GOD. Deku I am so high on you and your character development right now. Time was all this “career ending injury” and “Mirio showing up” and “dying friends” stuff would be making you super insecure. But now you’re just like “SHUT UP ASSHOLE.” Also Deku knows who’s really at the helm now? Smart boy.
Tumblr media
OH. MY. GOD. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I WAS RIGHT?!?!?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
YAS! SLAM HAND ON DESK. FUCKING CALLED IT! You go do it Deku! Go save our lovable League of Idiots! Redeem or rescue or whatever your nemesis! That’s how we do! OMG that’s two heartbreaking callbacks to chapter 1 this arc worked in. You know. The chapter that made the episode that won me over to this show faster than any thing ever.
So yep that looks like the wrap on this arc. And damn what a way to go! Deku you’re so amazing here. I was honestly so worried Deku would collapse under the weight of his insecurities but nope. He’s grown too much. And WOW he’s really gonna try and save Shigaraki. I don’t know how but I believe in you, man. After seeing this chapter. Damn. I believe. This right here is why Deku’s my fave. He’s just unstoppable when he’s determined. And he cares about protecting everyone around him, no matter who they are. Go, Deku. Drag your two hapless boyfriends and Ochako into this whole Villain Redemption thing too, actually. Todo has a little brother to scold and Ochako a future girlfriend to redeem, and Katsuki will probably (if he survives omg!) be following you wherever you go from now on, so bring it on! Wonder Trio + Ochako villain redemption arc, let’s GO!

Dabi +Hawks + Shigaraki+Toga with a reader who has powers similar to Spiderman (miles morales). Sorry I had to 😂
I am really sorry for keeping you waiting lovesmilesmorales-chan please forgive me but I wasn't feeling great to do anything for a while. And I am really sorry I don't write for female characters so I won't do Toga and this is the first time to write for Shiggy so I am sorry if it's not like what you want but I will do my best 💕✊
Their s/o has quirk similar to spiderman
Hawks
Tumblr media
His face in this picture is his reaction when he saw you using your quirk for the first time.
Birb boy is mesmerised by your super power.
Wants to have a race between both of you in the city in mid-air as he can fly and you can jump between buildings with your spider web so you can basically fly too but it's not possible because citizens aren't allowed to use their quirks in public.
So you do it at home ٩(•'w'•)9
I hc that hawks has an apartment with a really high ceiling or roof so he can use his wings freely and be able to fly at home.
He set a special ringtone for you guess what is it?? Yes it's spiderman theme song.
Dabi
Tumblr media
A LOT OF SPIDERMAN JOKES.
Also a lot of pranks using your spider webs on Shiggy.
He is having the time of his life when you take the game controller from Shiggy and run toward the place you sat the webs in then you dodge them but poor Shiggy didn't see it and went straight through it.
Takes a lot of pictures while Shiggy tries to take the web off his face and everyone else is dying from laughing.
But he really thinks it's a really cool quirk to have.
Asked you to do with him the spiderman kiss so you asked Toga to take a pic of both of you doing it without him knowing cause he doesn't like taking pictures, it's your new phone wallpaper.
Shigaraki
Tumblr media
He will be half disgusted and half amazed by it.
Don't get me wrong he thinks it's a really cool quirk plus he likes spiders and thinks they are really cool but the thing is that it's really similar to spiderman which is a HERO and our boy you know isn't really a fan of heroes.
Yeah we stan a childish badass baby villain 🖤
Will ask you to stick Dabi's stuff to the ceiling and laugh at him silently when he can't find them I don't know why they hate each other so much.
Also likes to see you using your quirk and doing cool poses.
Secretly likes to touch and play with your webs.
Calls you spidy UwU

Have you seen that some of the official translations aren’t portraying what Hori actually wrote all too correctly?
I’ve seen a few people who speak Japanese translate the most recent chapter and specifically show how different Dabi was portrayed in the original Japanese text, whereas in the official English translation he was made out to be more of a “psychopath”, which kind of cements why people are so dead set on him dying and not getting saved or redeemed. Do you feel like this issue is contributing to that part of the discourse? It’s super annoying to me because I’m just trying to make it through this god forsaken arc without being made sad by all the villain hate lol
Yeahhhhhhhh I’ve been privately whining about the official translations for the past... few years... lol. I just don’t want hate so I haven’t been posting about it as much, but yeah. My Japanese isn’t nearly near his level as well so I am reluctant to criticize because I cannot possibly understand what he’s trying to do (he knows more by a lot!), but:
The translator really seems like an enthusiastic fan, which is great, but he also appears to let his bias seep into his work even when it contradicts the work itself. I don’t think it’s helping the discourse, for sure. He has a great eye for details, which is really cool for making connections, but he also doesn’t really seem to have a narrative eye, just to be blunt. Which is not inherently a criticism, but it is when you let your preconceived notions influence your translations when it shouldn’t.
But translation is a tricky thing, both science and art, and that’s why I’m grateful for scanalation translations. While of course I support the official release, I’m also of the opinion that the more translations the better, because different languages have so many nuances that can be lost even by the best translation, because it’s not an exact formula. More translations help readers in other languages grasp what’s really being said better than one translation alone. So, I don’t think more translations are disrespectful or harmful, so long as the official release is also being supported, and I know that’s a controversial take but that’s where I stand on it.
Oh, fun fact related to translation: last night I was reading that “Dabi” apparently contains the kanji for “help” and “save” and Shimura Tenko means something like “changed arc.”

"Can we talk about the BNHA OC Comeback timeline? I've been dying to talk about my theories for the BNHA OC Comeback timeline all day!"
-Me to anyone willing to listen.
Here are the ramblings of me, someone who has no restraint when it comes to coming up with crazy theories about their interests, rambling about their theories on how the BNHA OC Comeback timeline could work.
Note: this is all speculation, and if the people in charge of the AU deem it to not be canon it is not. This was just something I did for fun because I wanted to do some writing. That is why I said could happen and not should happen, because this is all just fun speculation, and none of the other fandoms I am a part of have been able to scratch that itch for me lately.
Also, I will be talking about spoilers for a majority of the anime, but mostly stuff revealed in seasons 3-5, with a little bit of stuff from seasons 1 and 2, since those are the seasons with a lot of the important details that I will be attempting to write work arounds for. I will also be using the Wiki's names for story arcs (a list of which can be found here) when referring to specific plot events.
My ramblings about my theories are under the read more:
Also, to start this off, this speculation was pretty much brought upon by this post from the official BNHA OC Comeback blog, but what is important here is the tags.
Tumblr media
I think the idea of Class 1-A and Class 1-B being third years would be a good starting point for what I want to be diving into.
First point should be a little obvious but in this timeline, Deku still inherits One for All from All Might. This is mainly because if he didn't, if someone where to write or draw an interaction between this version of class 1-A with, lets say class 1-X for this example, Deku would likely not be there, due to not having a quirk, causing the question of "who is the 20th student in class 1-A?" One for All would likely be passed down to someone else (most likely Mirio because Nighteye was going to recommend him to All Might in the first place, and if Deku is not going to inherit it, I doubt there would be anything in the way of Mirio getting One for All)
Second point I want to point out is the battle between All Might and All for One that had happened before the events of the show. I think All Might will still suffer from his injuries from the fight, and continue being the symbol of peace, even if it is killing him. BUT I think it would be best if All for One gets defeated and gets put into hiding, not initiating any of his plans or finding Tomura Shigaraki. Tomura never getting taken in by One for All would also cause the League of Villains to never form (at least not in the way we are familiar with) so we.
Third Point is, although this is speculation, and I do not know where Nomus come from, I do think, even without the league of villains, there would be some sort of lab somewhere where Nomus are being created, likely as one of the last things All for One was able to set into motion before going into hiding in the AU. (I mostly went with this because I think Nomus as a concept are really cool, and I think it would be great to have some sort of generic enemy for the 1-X and 1-Y students to have to face without the need of creating a new organization)
Fourth Point is because All for One is in hiding, so All for One can not force All Might to reveal his "injured form" (I dunno what else to call it), but I do think when All Might and Sato get engaged, he will maybe (and this is a big maybe) reveal it to the public on his own, as more of a "I'm retiring and settling down now" then a "You must keep fighting because I can not" thing, causing crime to not sky rocket, but still rise because there is no more symbol of peace, since there is still the possibility (at least in the publics mind) that All Might could come out of retirement and go back to saving people.
Alright now I begin with some of the actual stuff that actively happened in the show that Class 1-A and Class 1-B had experienced.
Alright so everything at the beginning of the anime is the same, going up until the USJ arc. This is because, as stated previously, there is no League of Villains to attack the USJ. The only thing I can think of that could possibly stay the same is the All Might vs Nomu fight, because I think Nomus as a concept are cool and that was an awesome fight. The only way for the fight to happen though is that the Nomu is let loose somewhere else, like a highly populated area, because it makes no sense for it to be at USJ without the League.
Next is the sports festival, and this would also go the same. But after that is probably the most interesting arc I leave mostly unchanged, being the Hero Killer Arc. This is because, even without a League of Villain's, there would still be people following Stain's ideologies after he is detained, so I think maybe there could be some sort of small unorganized group of people following Stain's beliefs that there are no more "true" heroes. The group of stain followers would likely be the characters that had joined the League of Villains after the Hero Killer Arc (like Dabi, Himiko Toga, and Twice). It is also unchanged in the sense that the students are interning with Pro Heroes, and that Nomus are running around, being a cool concept (can you tell I like Nomus? I just think they are neat.).
Next is the Final exams Arc, which would go unchanged, but the next arc, the Forrest Camp Training arc, would also not have a League attack (because there is no league), and Class 1-A and Class 1-B have a normal experience at the training camp, causing there to be no Hideout Raid arc, because there is no hideout to raid.
Next, the Provisional License Exams are the same results, so no change here, except Camie Utsushimi would be there instead of Toga's impersonation of her, and still ending up to need to take the Remedial Course.
After that is the Shie Hassaikai Arc and then Remedial Course Arc. The Shie Hassaikai Arc would actually largely go unchanged because it is mainly just another internship for the Hero Course students, with the only change to the arc being the League involvement being removed, even though this would leave some plot holes, which I will fill by saying the small unorganized Stain followers would take the place of the league (since Toga and Twice are apart of the Stain followers group, so they would still end up working for them, filling the same rolls they had in the original Arc). Also Overhaul doesn't lose his arms because there would be no reason for him to get them ripped off (because there is no League of Villains). ALSO this means Eri would be canon to the BNHA OC Comeback, which I wanted to mention since from my knowledge she is a fan favorite. After that, the Remedial Course would go unchanged.
I'm also going to say that Mirio will have already gotten his quirk back during the main events of the AU, since Nighteye had predicted that he would get it back before Nighteye had died. How he gets it back will likely go unanswered, since I have not read ahead to the most recent chapter of the manga, only watching the anime, so we should leave the answer to how he got it back to be unclear just in case he gets it back in a spoiler-y way.
Then, lastly as of right now, the rest of the arcs would go unchanged up untill the latest arc where Todoroki, Midoriya, and Bakugo are interning with Endeavor, excluding the parts of the arc going into the Meta Liberation War, which can not properly go through thanks to their being no League of Villains, but especially because there is no Tomura.
Alright now we get to the stuff some of you are here for, being the new info and timeline stuff that occurs during the year Class 1-X and 1-Y are first years. First off, Class 1-A and Class 1-B would now be third years, which was a concept brought up in the original post that cause my brain to go into theory mode.
I would also like to pose the idea of a new "Big Three", replacing Mirio Togata, Tamaki Amajiki, and Nejire Hado (and also the nameless "Big Three" from when 1-A/1-B had been second years in this AU) since 1-A and 1-B are now all third years. This new "Big Three" would be made up of Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, and Izuku Midoriya, seeing as out of Class 1-A and Class 1-B, those three have shown to be the most consistent heavy hitters (and also being the most relevant to the original plot).
Aside from that, Class 1-A and 1-B would not be doing that much in the AU aside from the new "Big Three" occasionally helping out the first year Hero Course students with their studies.
Anyway if you read this far I really appreciate it. I have some more ramblings about stuff in the tags, but its more side stuff that doesn't really effect this AU within another AU.

Todoroki Shouto x Reader
Tumblr media
---
A/n: I am not online at the time of this post airing. I may not want anything to do with the BNHA fandom, but I do miss writing for BNHA. Here's a little something that I cooked up. I wouldn't take this as 'omg lyn's coming back to the fandom' because that isn't what this is. This was self-indulgent more than anything. Still, I hope you guys enjoy. The timeline for this thing is kinda all over the place, so I guess just ignore the canon timeline cause I’m not caught up all the way just yet and i hadn’t really tried to keep it within canon.
Summary:  After a terrifying encounter with the League of Villains, you find yourself unable to sleep. Todoroki, who is also sleepless, comes across you hanging out on the balcony of the common area.

It almost felt like you were underwater. Your lungs were begging for breath, trying to find any sort of oxygen as they constricted. Your head was hurting, pounding harshly as the lack of air began to get to you. Heart racing, you were trying not to remember the event that had happened a week prior.
~
The League of Villains were not only a dangerous organization, but they were hopelessly persistent. Instead of trying for Bakugo again, however, they had taken an interest in you. You guessed that it wasn’t to be unexpected.
After all, your quirk was Blood Letting, and it allowed you to control the blood of those who you cut, including yourself. You could cause a person to bleed out if you wanted to, forcing their blood out of even the littlest cut until there was nothing left in them.
You could cause it to clot inside of them, forcing them into a heart-attack and nobody would even suspect foul play. You could keep someone from dying or kill them in an instant if you wanted to.
You were a great advantage to the League of Villains, and they were determined to have you.
However, the League of Villains had been much more careful this time. They had meticulously planned their abduction plan down to a T, figuring out your schedule and where you liked to go; where you would avoid, and even your home within the city.
Even though all students were required to live on campus since the last attack, there were students who would stay at their homes for a few days at a time. It was a compromise that most parents had asked for, and Principle Nezu hadn’t been too keen on denying them despite his wishes for the students to stay at U.A full-time.
The extension was given to third-years and graduating students only, but most of the students were still able to find ways to bypass the rule. You were a third-year, but you usually spent most of your time in U.A. Your home-life was almost an exact replica of Todoroki Shoto’s, the famed son of Endeavor, the number one Pro-Hero.
Except, your father was no pro-hero. Instead, he was just a drunkard who got off on beating his wife and child because how else was a quirkless man to feel powerful? Usually, your mother would come to visit you to get out of the house, but sometimes a visit to your home was inevitable.
The League of Villains knew this and knew that it would be easier to go straight to your home. Your father was a coward and wouldn’t think twice about giving you away. The only thing the villains had to wait on was time itself.
When it came time for the students to choose whether or not to take a small vacation to their parent's homes, you had chosen to go after your mother called you to tell you that she wouldn’t be able to come to visit.
You had no idea what you were going to walk in on.
The League of Villains were in your living room, seeming as though they had made themselves at home as they lounged in your living room. Your mother was in the kitchen, making dinner for the entire League while your father sat in his recliner, shaking in his boots.
You had no idea what to do. Standing in your front door, you were frozen by the feeling of a hot hand on the back of your neck. The temperature of his hand was astronomical, almost burning you without his blue flames, and you were too afraid to move.
Your mother was shaking, eyes wide in fear as she passed out the food, and Shigaraki sighed in satisfaction.
“Ah, my favorite…you can go ahead and take a seat. We have much to discuss.”
“I’ll stand, thanks.”
You replied, edging for your knife on your wrist, but a hot breath fanned across the shell of your ear.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, doll. One wrong move and this whole place will turn to ash.”
You froze. Even though you wanted to fight back, you knew that Dabi wouldn’t hesitate to burn you and your whole family alive. You really didn’t give a damn about what happened to your father, but your mother was who you were scared for.
She was seated on the loveseat, Mr. Compress holding a hand on her shoulder to keep her in place. Whether as a warning or something else, you weren’t entirely sure.
“Sit down.”
Dabi ordered you roughly, and you were almost tempted to tell him to fuck off in true Bakugo style. However, you kept your mouth wisely shut as Dabi tightened his grip on your neck, and he forced you to move before you were sitting on the right of Shigaraki.
Dabi was seated next to you, keeping his hand on the back of your neck as you listened to the league eat their dinner. Your mother kept her eyes on you, but you were glaring at Shigaraki, watching him eat. Your hands stayed flat on your thigh, and you almost hissed when Dabi’s fingers began to play with the hair at the nape of your neck.
Shigaraki let out a satisfied sighed, placing his chopsticks down before folding his hands together. He said to you, tilting his head a bit as he trained a crimson eye on you.
“Do you know why I am here?”
“I don’t suppose it’s to taste my mom’s cooking.”
Shigaraki chuckled, and you were almost distracted by Dabi’s fingers trailing along the back of your neck.
“No, but it was a great surprise. I’m here for you, (Y/n) (L/n). You have an incredibly fascinating quirk…Blood Letting, you called it?”
You snapped at him, Dabi’s hand enclosing tightly around your neck in warning.
“Fuck off, Shigaraki! I’m not joining your damn league!”
“Easy, doll.”
Shigaraki let his hand up, Dabi immediately going quiet, and Shigaraki sighed.
“I really don’t have time for you to be getting on my nerves and stalling me, so I’m going to make this quick. You are going to come work for my league and give me inside information that I need so that I can destroy U.A, the Pros, and society altogether! If you refuse…”
Shigaraki flicked his finger at your father, the man screaming as he turned to dust, and your mother wailed in fear. You were shocked, watching as the man crumbled to a pile of dust in the recliner. Despite hating the man with all of your being, you didn’t want him to die.
Knowing that Shigaraki was willing to kill so quickly made you afraid. What were you going to do? How were you going to escape this? You weren’t willing to be a double agent, but you couldn’t risk the life of your mother.
Before you could open your mouth to give your answer, there was a burning smell. It wasn’t coming from Dabi, and Dabi’s hand tightened significantly on the back of your neck.
The front door to your home suddenly exploded, and you yelped from the loud sound before taking the moment of distraction to slip your knife from your pocket and slice into Dabi’s thigh.
Dabi let out a growl, and you activated your quirk, forcing his blood to come rushing out of the wound. Dabi immediately began to convulse on your couch, and you shot up, using Dabi’s blood to slam Mr. Compress into the wall. Shigaraki was furious, and you were quick to get to your mother’s side, ushering her out the backdoor.
“Go, mom! You have to leave!”
Your mother didn’t think twice, running out into the backyard to safety. Releasing Dabi, you were surprised to see Endeavor step through your front door. He was almost terrifying in person, standing at 6’4” and flames reaching even higher. His turquoise eyes were on Shigaraki, and the hero ordered you.
“Get out of here. Now.”
You nodded before running out, almost tripping in your haste to leave. You hadn’t expected to see Todoroki, and his bi-colored eyes were surprised when he saw you.
“(L/n)!”
At the sight of seeing your friend, all of the fear came crashing down on you, and you immediately ran into Todoroki’s arms, crying.
“Todoroki!”
Todoroki was shocked by the gesture, but held you close, guiding you away from the fight. You were almost hysterical, sobbing into his shoulder, and Todorki was almost unsure of what to do. Should he let you cry? Should he try to say something? In his silent thinking, Todoroki almost missed you speaking.
“I…I told him I wouldn’t do it…I won’t do it!”
“What do you mean?”
You covered your face, shaking your head as you kept it pressed into his shoulder.
“He wanted…wanted me to help him destroy everything….destroy it all…because of my quirk…because of how dangerous I am.”
Todoroki was immediately reminded of Bakugo and when the League first attempted to kidnap and use one of U.A’s strongest students. You cried harder, shaking your head.
“And he killed him…he killed my father right…right in front of my mom and I! I…I was so scared he would hurt my mom too…oh god, Todoroki, I almost said yes because of it…”
Todoroki kept you close, rubbing your back gently, and he coaxed you softly.
“It’s not your fault, (L/n). You were given a hard choice…it’s alright.”
It was a day that you were never going to forget.
~
After the incident, you had gotten closer to Todoroki. He was a quiet comfort in your life, giving you solace in your times of darkness. At first, it had been a little awkward for you two.
You two hadn’t really interacted too much outside of school, nonetheless while inside school either. You weren’t even sure that you could consider the two of you as friends…up until now, at least. Todoroki was a constant hovering cloud upon you, but you weren’t complaining. You were glad to have him help you through this.
Ever since the incident, you had been plagued with nightmares about the incident; about all the ways that it could have gone, about Shigaraki,and about Dabi’s touch. None of it left you. It was almost obvious to see that you were still affected by the event; that it was hurting you far worse than you were letting on.
The only one who could really see what the event had done to you was Bakugo, who understood you perfectly. He knew exactly what you were going through, but just like Todoroki, Bakugo had no idea how to comfort someone.
He wasn’t easy with his words when it came to such things, so when in passing, Bakugo would just give you an understanding glance. Despite there being no words between you and Bakugo, you knew what it said.
‘I’m here if you want to talk.’
But just talking didn’t help. It didn’t help you get through the pain and the fear and the trembling. You were struggling to breathe again, and you were so caught up in your panic attack that you hadn’t heard the door to the balcony open.
“(L/n)?”
It was Todoroki’s voice, echoing through your haziness like the beam of a lighthouse, guiding you back to reality slowly. You could see Todoroki kneel before you, placing his hand gently on your knee as you struggled to breathe.
“Focus on me, (L/n). Can you look at me?”
Your hands came down from your head, latching onto his hand tightly, and Todoroki didn’t hesitate to clasp his left hand over yours, basically holding your hands within his own. Your eyes were on his, though your eyes were blurry from your tears.
“Breathe with me.”
You nodded, and as Todoroki took a deep breath, so did you. Slowly, the two of you breathed together, your panic slowly dying down. Todoroki was patient as you began to breathe better, taking deeper and deeper breaths before you were finally calmed. Todoroki asked you, giving you a soft look.
“Are you alright?”
“I...I think so.”
At least for now. Todoroki nodded lightly before sitting down beside you on the swinging bench, keeping your hands within his. He gently swayed the bench back and forth with his foot, a comfortable silence overcoming the both of you. You said softly, Todoroki looking over at you with focused eyes.
“Thank you, Todoroki…for being here with me and for me. I know this is probably weird for you, but I appreciate the effort.”
Todoroki looked down at your conjoined hands, a strange sensation of fluttering in his chest, and he replied to you honestly.
“This is what friends do. We support each other…it’s what a hero would do, right?”
You looked over at Todoroki, smiling lightly.
“Yeah…you’re gonna be a great one, Todoroki. I know you will.”
Todoroki looked away from you, almost bashful, and he replied honestly.
“I think that you’ll be a great hero too.”
“I don’t know…I think I should just…transfer to the Reserves or something…or even enlist in the Rescue Corps with Recovery Girl…I don’t think someone like me can be a true hero.”
Todoroki shook his head, replying.
“That’s not true. Your quirk might be better for healing in the long run, but you are an incredibly skilled combatant. Your quirk enables you to stop a villain with sheer will as long as you have cut them. Your quirk would be an incredible advantage when facing a villain.”
Todoroki sighed and added after a moment of gathering his thoughts.
“Besides, you were able to not only render Dabi useless but save your mother from Mr. Compress as well in the same breath. You may not believe it right now, but you do have what it takes to be a hero.”
Goddammit all. Your eyes were glassy again, and you sniffled deeply, replying softly as you gently squeezed Todoroki’s hand.
“I just...I keep thinking about what would have happened if I accepted…what I could have become…what I can become.”
“But it won’t happen because you don’t have what it takes to be a villain.”
You looked up at Todoroki in surprise, and he shook his head at you.
“It is foolish to think about things that will never happen. You aren’t a villain just because your quirk is dangerous. If that were the case, then Bakugo would have been kicked from the hero course long ago, as well as many others. All Might, for a example. He was dangerous...and yet, he was the Symbol of Peace..a person that we all looked up to.”
Todoroki gazed intently at you before sighing.
“You are over-thinking…you do it a lot, you know.”
You sighed and gave an exasperated look to Todoroki.
“Thanks.”
“You are welcome.”
You were almost given whiplash from his bluntness, but you didn’t say anything to him about it. Instead, you chose to stay quiet, reveling in the comfortable quiet. Todoroki’s gaze was settled on your conjoined hands, feeling the softness of your hand within his own.
It almost felt too good to him…how nice it was to hold your hand; how warm your hand felt within his cold one. Todoroki asked you after a couple of minutes of rocking the bench quietly.
“Do you feel better?”
You nodded and answered, laying your head against his shoulder.
“Yes….but if it alright with you, I’d like to sit here with you just a little bit longer.”
Todoroki nodded, letting his head rest against yours.
“Yes, I’d like that.”

BBQ gripes about fanon Hawks
Not even gonna put this in the character tags aside from the spoiler one I use just for the anime-onlies on my blog. I'm salty. I just wanna vent. I want to keep the general character tags fun because it was awful when I went looking for new content and found so much Not Fun material a while back; and I don’t want to become what I hate. Basic point - my blog, my vent, and unless it’s reblogged (which you are welcome to if you like) this post dies here.
Please know this isn't a callout post or me claiming that others are being fans of Hawks "wrong" because they disagree with me. I am a huge proponent that (with very few exceptions) fiction and fandom should be free to be enjoyed, reinterpreted, or otherwise indulged in however the individual fan prefers; and if I don't like it, I let them have their space and go do my thing elsewhere and leave them alone (hence why this not going in character tags). I just have been annoyed with the rampant mangling of Hawks' canon  personality/characterization - that is, confusing common fanon interpretations of him with how he’s actually written/portrayed and then getting angry (like, actually-angry-spilling-into-publicly-dragging-real-people, not just disappointed) when he acts like canon Hawks in canon. Non-canon is open season and by and large has my blessing, it’s just frustrating when it gets dragged into discussions about the manga.
This has been going on a long time, but I just want to get it out of my system in my personal space. All this is, is my "Overthinking Tumblr blogger Shakes Fist at Cloud" moment.
#1 Hawks is a sociopath/unempathetic.
I just... I... You can't be reading the same manga I am if you genuinely come to this conclusion about who he is in canon. A man with nothing to gain by looking like this when considering the depths of the suffering inflicted on others that he bears some amount of responsibility in...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...cannot be called unempathetic.
"But he killed Twice and Best Jeanist!"
Twofold counterargument to this one, starting with BJ - we don't actually know he's dead. There's a body, there's a disappearance, and we have no idea wtf happened, but we also don't know wtf happened. It's drastically ooc for Hawks to murder someone in cold blood. For someone who places emphasis on speed specifically "because when two sides keep fighting and won’t give up, someone eventually has to die" it makes no sense for him to not have had a plan and simply ambush a man in his own home - this goes doubly since he was in contact with the HSPC and had time to "premeditate" anyway.
And as for Twice: Hawks ran out of options. He wanted to detain Twice and keep him from escaping and helping the MLA. He was able to do so when alone, but the moment Dabi cornered him Hawks had a choice to make - probably die in the fight and let Jin go or make absolute certain he can’t and still probably end up dying because he's in bad shape and still probably won't make it out of this, regardless. I don't need to harp on this - it's been said a couple different times now by several people. Even in 266 when Dabi initially ambushes Hawks, Hawks thinks to himself that he’ll carry Jin out of the building to keep himself and Jin safe before Twice retaliated and Dabi literally forces Hawks into a corner.
Jin's loss was a blow, but the chips on the table being wagered are human lives, not feelings. Up until that point, Hawks did everything he could despite the weight of his decision. Human life is human life, and Jin’s life isn’t more important than the may more who will be saved by quashing the MLA’s revolution. Simply equating “could kill someone” with “unempathetic” is fundamentally flawed, and mistaking someone who is pushed to kill despite every attempt to avoid it as unempathetic and even sociopathic has missed the point to the extreme - the mere fact he avoided lethal force for so long alone proves he possesses empathy.
#2 Hawks is a compulsive liar.
He is a good liar, but he does not like lying. He does twist the truth, but always when forced to keep a secret. Even then, his lies are predominantly spun from truth and omitted details instead of outright fabrications. He doesn’t gaslight, and he doesn’t make up stories/details if he can help it.
When Hawks told Endeavor his dreams for the future, that was the truth. When he told him he thought he was cool at the hero billboards, that was the truth.  When he tells Tokoyami to focus on his strengths instead of merely covering his weaknesses to be a better hero, that was the truth. When Tokoyami asks Hawks for his weakness and even why he took him on as an intern in the beginning just to ignore him, he tells him the truth.  When he tells Jin he "doesn't belong in a cage" and that he considers him a good person, that was the truth. When he recognizes he’s profoundly wounded Jin for deceiving him for months, he tells Jin the truth. When confronted by Dabi and he doesn’t need to lie anymore in this fight to the death, he tells him the truth despite not actually needing to in hopes to learn the truth behind Dabi and Shigaraki.
I don't have a better segue, so I'll just mention that a lot of folks who believe this also believe the next point.
#3 Hawks is unapologetically emotionally manipulative.
The context makes a huge difference and we need to look at when and why he manipulates others as well as the fact that he does.
At the hero billboards, Hawks plays the heroes on stage as well as the crowd. He's trying to shift the mindset of, "oh yeah, just another hero ranking" to "wake up, mf's, things are changing and you better be ready to change, too!" Rocking the boat is a huge no-no in Japan. Despite being part of his “persona” there is still real social risk involved with this move but one that he deems necessary to turn heads and get gears turning. This is not just an elaborate ploy to get under Endeavor’s skin, but an effort to reach a wider audience while he has them captive.
He does use the public crowd around him and Endeavor before the Hood fight as an excuse for its appearance, but the original intent was to mentally prepare Endeavor for what was potentially (and proved to be) the fight of his life without outright telling him so he could maintain his undercover status. When he realizes he’s part of the reason for Endeavor’s permanent scar and life-threatening injuries, he feels remorse.
He lies to Jin to get information out of him, but linking back to #2, when calls Jin a good person and offers him a way out, he’s telling the truth. He does feel guilt for having to manipulate an otherwise well-meaning person and betraying them, especially given his long-running history of being used and the ongoing issues he suffers from because of it.
When he meets up again with Endeavor to drop his clues about the League’s movements, he squirms when he realizes the interns don’t know him well enough to know he’s blowing smoke because he does NOT want these kids to actually buy what he’s selling. This espionage mission is hard to navigate, and he has to tread carefully lest he setup the dominoes in the wrong places.
This is all to make the point that Hawks is more than capable of emotionally manipulating people, but it’s not in his nature or something he does to any and every person he comes across just because. We haven’t had much opportunity to see him operate outside of the HSPC’s orders which is where the bulk of the instances of his manipulation comes from - those orders requiring him to operate covertly and thus, by nature, necessitate lying, manipulation, and strategically withholding information.
If anything, when he’s making an appeal to someone else as his own person - not as a hero on a mission- we actually see a level of vulnerability and transparency we don’t otherwise catch.
Though it’s technically canon-adjacent and not necessarily canon in and of itself, in My Hero Academia: Team Up Mission where he works with Bakugo and Midoriya he operates on a level of transparency with them we’re not used to seeing; and my theory is he took it as an opportunity to operate without ulterior motives and build report instead of bucking back against “training up the next generation of heroes” like he initially did with Tokoyami.
Which now actually segues better into the next point.
#4 Hawks never lets people get close to him.
There’s a surprising amount of evidence that Hawks wants the ability to be an open book. Back at Team Up Mission, the restaurant staff note he regularly takes people he likes to their establishment - so we’re basically told outright this is a special place to him reserved for enjoying himself and only people he likes get to share it with him - so we already know what that says about how he sees those two despite their sparse interactions. We already know he’s taken Endeavor there when Endeavor made no move to input as to where he wanted to have the lunch meeting.
Though he kept Tokoyami at arm’s length initially, we have at least three canon instances of him sharing personal interactions with him with other canon-adjacent indications he cares for and values his intern. We’ve readily established that while Endeavor may not consider himself close to Hawks, Hawks does hold Endeavor as near and dear to his heart. While his only mission regarding Twice was to get information out of him, he still made a genuine effort to help and save him because he wanted to and considered him a friend despite the circumstances.
We still don’t know very much of Hawk’s past, his personal relationships outside of work, etc.; but despite the HPSC’s extensive efforts to strip him of his identity he not only possesses a faceted, complicated personality but seems to want to share that with others readily when and in the ways he’s able. Getting into the truly squishy, vulnerable parts of him may take a while, but on a scale of closed to open, he seems to lean towards open.
#5 Hawks is hopelessly in love with Dabi and will abandon everything up to this point for him.
This isn't to throw general DabiHawks shippers under the bus. Most of them know VERY well at this point that canon has sunk that ship, and they're just having fun with it at this point - and you know what, power to you! They look great together! In another life, the character chemistry could have been incredible. There’s a lot of great DabiHawks shipping content I thoroughly enjoy despite not shipping it myself.
It just isn't canon. It never was and never came close. Even now, with the Endeavor reveal being very much imminent, Hawks' view of Dabi is one of a lying, malicious, callous, murderer. Though he’ll likely be crushed at the revelation of what Endeavor’s done, that doesn’t equate to him defecting (especially not immediately) and falling into Dabi’s arms.
And Dabi hates Hawks just as much.
Again, this is not anything against the ship or the shippers - just an annoyance I have with some who were so wrapped up in the ship they were genuinely mad when the ship sank and they dragged that frustration out into the real world against real people when canon didn’t align with fanon.
Ships are some of the most stupid things to rail against creators and fans over, and the amount of harassment they receive now over shipping has me ripping my hair out when I know it’s a mere fraction of the total pool of shippers who are frothing at the mouth while the rest are super cool and happy doing their own thing and keeping to themselves.
Ship what you want, regardless of “validating evidence” and have fun. Don’t make it others’ problem when it isn’t canonically validated.
#6 Hawks is a dirty cop.
Only half upset with this one because it comes down to the nuance and lack of precise definition of this phrase I have a problem with. Lots of people hate cops for very real, legitimate reasons. Police forces - being a voluntary, government-employed force enforcing government rule - are notoriously prone to corruption of every kind.
It's implied the HPSC is itself corrupt, though to what extent we don't know. (Granted, buying a young child from his family to raise as your personal puppet is pretty high up there.) By continuing to follow orders from the HPSC and not vehemently fighting back, many see him as reinforcing a corrupt institution and at least partially liable for their continued hold on society.
Fair enough, but... The issue I have with this is it reduces Hawks to his job.
I believe a huge chunk of this take comes from my experience as an armed service member spouse, but it's easy for me to empathize with a guy
Who was promised the moon for himself and his family in exchange for his service not realizing what was actually being asked of him
Is praised outside the organization for "being a hero" and "upholding this country's core values" while first-hand witnessing the corruption of it when inside
Is viewed as a cog valuable only in services rendered instead of being treated like a human by said organization and worked into the ground because of it
Is frustrated by the insistence to keep the status quo instead of improving procedure/infrastructure/environment because egos need to be padded over real, human problems being solved
Has his autonomy or otherwise ability to operate under his own judgement restricted in favor of maintaining organizational control at the cost of effective action
Has DEPENDENTS who rely on his continued work to provide for them and is thus unable to refuse an order, even when it's morally reprehensible and even outright illegal
Whose cries, both those calculated and desperate, to the organization (who have placed themselves as the sole resource he can turn to) for help (even for his own body/mind) fall on deaf ears until he breaks to the point of becoming unusable or dangerous - and even then minimal effort/responsibility is taken in favor of keeping him functioning in the organization as long as possible.
Hawks fights back against the HPSC constantly. He raised concerns over letting civilians suffer to get him in with the League of Villains and then still defied orders by reducing casualties to zero. Despite orders to keep his mission top secret, he's informed Endeavor of his motives/movements independently from the rest of the heroes. He had long refused to take an intern (read: fresh meat for the machine) to train until this year, and even then sought to minimize his encouragement of Tokoyami for as long as possible until he realized Tokoyami was made of the real mettle people needed in a hero and not just another youngster endangering himself on a pipe dream.
He even takes initiative to keep his personal to-do list from the HPSC to a minimum by squashing problems before they come knocking asking him to fix it for them. He knew of the League of Villains and anticipated the escalation of their movements immediately after the USJ incident as well as has a network of informants and connections with local police forces to stay in the know.
His methods for apprehension of criminals are, and continue to be, to react and detain them so quickly they can't retaliate or endanger others in the struggle, thus minimizing human loss and injury despite the insinuation the HPSC has told him that gloves are off in the current situation.
He might be "a cop" depending on the definition we go with, but he isn't a dirty cop. He doesn't plant evidence. He doesn't shoot first and ask questions later. He doesn't blindly take orders. He largely doesn't see "villains" as dirt under his shoe but as people pushed to extremes. He's a morally convicted individual trying to rebel within the system instead of tearing it down outright. He may be wrong in the assumption, but he genuinely believes he can do more on the inside of the system than outside.
#7 Hawks is a manwhore.
Ok, this one is not serious and actually just to end this all on a lighter note after ranting until I'm blue in the face.
I'm 100% guilty of this myself. Something about that chicken makes me and many others salivate - either for themselves or to watch him with someone else. We love dressing him up slutty, portray him as flirting unashamedly, and placing him in as many overtly sexual scenarios possible.
The best part about all of it, though, is that it’s almost the exact opposite of how he dresses/conducts himself in canon. His clothes are loose fitting and high-coverage. He’s personable, but never gives any indication he’s romantically/sexually involved or interested in anyone. The asscourse is real only because we cannot confirm either way due to his baggy clothes. His overall figure/body shape has been hinted at, but only recently confirmed; and his jacket had to be literally be burned off to get a good look at the pattern of his shirt under it!
~~~~~~~
And with that, I release the frustration and move on.
Enjoy fanon as much as you like - even I do! Just be aware of where canon and fanon diverge, and definitely don’t take the difference out on real people. Please also be aware of how others hold their favorite characters dear before flooding the general tags with negativity and creating a hostile environment for them. People latch onto their “comfort characters” for a plethora of reasons, and when they lose that character to the plot, the fandom, or otherwise, they should still be allowed to grieve and celebrate what they had in a safe environment.
Retaliation in response to others coming against your favorite is also not acceptable behavior. It sucks, but the most mature thing to do is step away from the general fandom, stick to blogs/spaces you know are safe, and let the storm blow over. Comfort characters do not justify mistreating real people no matter how much they may mean to you.
When “canon gets it wrong” is where fanfiction and pockets of the fandom community comes into play. Leave those people alone and let them be. For those who aligned themselves with canon, they are not free game to take personal frustrations out on. Leave those people alone and let them be. Unfollow the people/tags you need to for your own sake and others’, and the fandom will be a better place all around over time. Venting belongs in controlled spaces away from the rest of the fandom and with enough warning for those who not only don’t want to endure it but who for their own safety shouldn’t.
Fandom is a community, and healthy communities do not endorse members lashing out when they don’t get their way.
MHA Ch. 290
What will happen to the Todorokis?
.
Man, what a chapter...
I don’t speak Japanese, unfortunately, so I’m eagerly waiting for the translation. But yeah, the time for the big reveal is here. And let me just say: I know it is an unpopular opinion, but I don’t care much for Dabi. He is one of the less interesting villains to me, part of that due to us not knowing much about him...other than actually kinda knowing all that we need about him lol. And since the theory has been confirmed, I’m still more interested in the implications this event will have on the society as a whole, as well as what it will mean for the Todorokis. Despite pretty much knowing this was coming, the fact that everyone is freaking out is a good indication that Horikoshi managed to pull this off with enough suspense and tension. Kudos to him for managing to keep his fans excited over a “secret” that had been brewing for 100+ chapters.
What I’m picking up from the transcripts is that we will end the chapter before the real show down begins.  So what can we expect next chapter? Of course, we will have a fight. I expect both Dabi and Endeavor to walk away from this confrontation, despite Dabi’s best efforts (or should I say Touya now?). He probably wants to fight Endeavor to the death, except Endeavor isn’t really in any shape to do much. Even ignoring all of his considerable injuries, he seems to have pretty much mentally checked out after the reveal. This is it. It’s the end. He might have been trying to atone, might have acknowledged making up for what he did was impossible. But this is solid, tangible proof that he can only fail in the end. Because his greatest failure and regret is staring him in the eye and throwing everything back in his face. If this doesn’t break Enji’s spirit, I don’t know what will.
So I’m thinking, to Touya’s utter disappointment, he won’t be getting any resistance from his father, not while he is in this state. And yeah, Shouto has been having the worst day of his life and I just want him safe. But we haven’t really seen his big moment in this arc, which is why I believe he will be the one standing between Touya and Endeavor. He will fight to protect Endeavor, because why wouldn’t he? He might hate his father but he doesn’t want him dead. He has shown incredible maturity in his handling of their relationship, drawing a clear distinction between the capable no 1 hero and his shitty father. He knows what Endeavor represents in the wake of All Might’s retirement is bigger than him and what he feels Endeavor deserves. If Deku is to be believed, he was even on his way to eventually forgiving him, but Dabi’s little dance routine is sure to throw a wrench in that.
At the end of the day, Touya has endangered Shouto and all of his classmates in the past, openly mocked Shouto for his failure to retrieve Bakugou during his kidnapping, has murdered innocent people and wanted to kill Shouto too, according some early translations. I can’t see Shouto siding with him at all in this mess, like I’ve seen some other people hope or expect, regardless of how he feels towards their dad.
And while I expect Endeavor to survive this and face the backlash for what just went down, him dying is a pretty horrible possibility. It would leave the Todoroki family to face all this without the object of all the accusations, leave them without closure or the ability to fully process this new trauma. The fact that he died on Shouto’s own watch would also really screw with his mental health (whatever is left of it, RIP).
Why the hell did I type this much this was supposed to be a couple of paragraphs.
So yeah, can’t wait for the scanlations, and I am very excited for next week’s chapter. What are you doing to us Horikoshi?
About Chapter 222 (BNHA)
This chapter got me thinking a lot...
1. Tomura’s past and AFO
Honestly... I feel bad for Tomura. AFO is a monster! He brainwashed Tomura when he was too young to know any better. Tomura’s hate comes from his upbringing, from his family and AFO used his anger to direct it to society. As to why well, I don’t quite remember I think AFO answered that at the chapter where All Might visited him in prison. But Tomura’s past makes us also think about all the heroes who have kids and how difficult it is for them. They want a safer world for their kids but their kids also need their attention. They have to make tough choices all the time! So is it even a good choice for them to have kids in the first place? If you look at most pro heroes, they don’t have kids of their own. But what happens with those who do? Where was Nana when Tomura needed her? And can we blame her?? Also, is it too late for Tomura to be saved?? A lot of serious questions came out of his past and finding an answer is kind of difficult...
2. The Doctor as a villain and his motives
Paraphrasing what he said: he is curious to see what Tomura accomplishes. He gives me the impression that he is doing everything just because he is curious... as if he doesn’t really have any directly evil motive... But he was close to AFO and his scientific discoveries have to be tested somehow. But why make them in the first place? And why follow AFO? What was their relationship exactly? In any case, the way he acts and the things he says make me think that he is either crazy, or just so bored he wants excitement in his life. He is an interesting villain, I want to know more about his motives. Plus his creations scare me... Are we going to have our second big character death this arc? Well, this makes it even more interesting!
3. The LoV’s camaraderie
We all must have felt it! The relationship among the members of the league has changed. We see all these shows in which the villains aren’t loyal and could even kill one of their own to test a weapon or sth and I am sick of how stupid they are because who would want to join an organization like that in the first place if they know that they might die one day just for an example? Anyway, my point is, I like how close the league has gotten. The recent chapters have shown they are also trying to figure out how to be stronger villains. They are taking their own journey, “My Villain Academia”. I mean, look at them! Twice and Toga fooling around with jewelery, Toga teasing Dabi’s saltiness and Tomura’s sulkiness, Tomura showing more respect to his teammates by saying he will not go after the people they like. Even though I’m on the hero side of course, I do like the growth they’ve had.
4. Dabi and his... business.
I just wanted to mention this even though it is not very important: Notice how everyone is ready to take up the Doctor’s challenge and finally get somewhere and then you have Dabi’s gay ass that wants to go see Hawks. It is hard to believe thay aren’t fucking.
5. The liberation army’s connection to all of this
I think the Liberation Army is the reason Horikoshi is presenting the LoV’s weaknesses. He reminds us that they aren’t invincible. He is shifting the role of the Villain to the L.A. and making the LoV the main characters of this arc. It makes you wonder if we will have a cooperation between the heroes and the LoV against a common enemy. Think about it, it is not the first time Hori’s done something like that. Remember the Overhaul Arc, in which Toga and Twice helped the heroes? I am not saying that the LoV will be excused of all the horrible things they’ve done. But I do know that they are liked by most of us fans as the main villains. They make good main villains with interesting personalities. It would be nice to see them on the spotlight after all this time. Also, I do want to see the trope where heroes and villains have to work together and it is awkward! XD   Plus if the collab starts peacefully and it is not forced, we might get to see All Might have a chance to talk with Tomura. He’s been wanting to do that and I’ve been dying to see that interaction!!
6. BONUS! Spinner in this chapter.
I noticed Spinner seems hesitant during this chapter’s exchange. And we had his POV recently... Could he maybe become the Mole? Him wondering where this is all going makes me think that he is doubting the league. And unlike everyone else who seems to get along, I thought he seemed a little distant? But maybe I am reading too much into this. I will keep an eye on him though just in case. But even if he wanted to leave the league, the police and the heroes associate him with them so he can’t leave even if he wanted to..... Makes you wonder huh?
Feel free to share your thoughts! I like discussing stories in depth like that~
... apparently, these are becoming a weekly endeavor. (watch me getting an autoblock as soon as I post this) ( AO3 )
tl;dr Hawks is in high spirits (no pun intended), and Rumi’s Intrigued™
Meanwhile, somewhere not too far away, a vaguely annoyed Dabi is sneezing a whole lot, questioning whether his feeble ass is allergic to feathers.
(((I almost chose an angsty ending. Almost. But apparently I cannot do that with series and games that are not depression station in the first place, F.)))
“Say… you are in a reeeeeally good mood today, aren'tcha?” Rumi notes between two obnoxious milkshake slurps next to the remaining morsels of their lunch while taking a full round on the revolving barstool. It’s a Monday, it’s a conference day, a boring conference day where she’s about to kill herself out of sheer boredom… and Hawks, who’s usually also only present in body and ready to passive-aggressively tear the thing down, is radiating a hundred different levels and shades of sunlight. Of course she’s gonna jump on this.
“Huh?” the hero replies, returning to the present; the pen he’s got bouncing between two fingers while reading through the despair-inducingly thick paper pile in front of him (most likely invitations and offers of various kinds) never stops in its fast, metronome-like movement. The little smile that's been plastered over his face all day perks up a little as he looks at her, too. He’s obviously missed the question directed at him, but doesn't seem to be bothered by it.
“I said you are in a good fucking mood, twerp,” his friend repeats with a click of the tongue. Something’s definitely up. “And that you didn't catch it is all the damn proof I need. Haven't seen you this well-adjusted since… ever, actually.” Slurrrp.
“Aaah… guess so,” he muses with the rhythm slowing and a thoughtful expression for a change.
“I had the best fucking sleep ‘since ever’ is all.” The pause preceding this is uncharacteristically long, and his persistent smile returns before he even reaches the conclusion.
“You slept?” chortles Rumi in disbelief, then starts choking as some of the remaining milkshake finds its way to her lungs. The plausible fact that this alone could make him feel alive should not be this funny.
Hawks’ smile widens into a grin and he leans onto an elbow, shoving the documents aside. “Seven hours and thirteen whole-ass minutes, bitch. It's a new record!” It wasn't exactly that much, probably just under seven if he wanted to be honest. But point stands.
Once having regained composure, the heroine lets the information linger for a few seconds. Hmm. Hmmm… “Explains why you are functional and were late for the meeting. What it doesn’t explain is how you, Mr. 10 minutes ahead of everyone’s schedule… early bird extraordinaire… slept in.” That goofy expression is not his usual one, no. There's a snoop to be had, here. After a deep, deep, grin-ridden sigh, she turns back to him, leaning on the counter as well. “Has it got anything to do with dodging, like, all of my invitations lately? Hmm?” She wiggles her brows at him.
Man… she just went there, didn't she. Unfortunately, the persistent smile refuses to cover for him. In fact, it's more incriminating than anything, creeping wider once more. Well then. “Hasn't got as much to do with it as you would like, fam. There's only about… 15% of overlap.” Plus some change.
Maybe more, now that he thinks about it… because the disturbingly domestic (and even worse, occasionally comforting and enjoyable) shenanigans with the League have long outgrown the ‘meeting up with actual S-rank villains in my fake free time because spy lmao’ category. Rumi wouldn't buy that anymore, she's seen enough to know that he's full of shit.
There's a glint of a hunter’s in Rumi’s eyes… a hunter’s that has found fresh track. Her grin turns into a triumphant sneer. “So you do admit to seeing someone.”
The smile on Hawks’ face gains a streak of concern. “Please don't make me think about it in those terms,” he moans, furrowing his brows. “Any of the people I've been dealing with are freaks of nature.”
“So are we,” she notes, not missing a beat.
That earns a similarly fast fling-and-point of a pen in her general direction. “Word.”
She snickers. “Come on…! Tell me about that dreamy 15% that has you so pepped. I'm dying to know~”
He thinks about it for a bit. Then, the feathers of Hawks’ wings rustle, and he himself takes a gander around the restaurant; there's mostly heroes, sidekicks and managers gathered in the building in the first place, who are similarly disinterested in each other's dwindling lunch break times and private lives. While assessing the room, he's silently weighing his options as to how much he can say, and how he should choose his words.
“So… I've been roped into a kind of internship in the past months that I wanted nothing to do with, and am still hella iffy about,” he begins, keeping it just low enough for it to be not overly suspicious.
“Good start!”
“I know, right? Anyway… it's dirty work, but turned out to be tolerable, most of the time. The coworkers are all bonkers, but I've already come to the terrifying conclusion that I'm not all that different.”
“Took you long enough.”
“Hush, I'm telling your story…! Who you might be interested in, I think, is the contact person that keeps a close eye on me even today.”
“OOOH, this is getting spicy~ are they, like, twice your age? You are into older people, after all. Oh, and dude or lady? Other, maybe? You are being really cagey.”
“What did I just say?! Also, I'm not into older people. This peep is up to five years my senior, tops.”
“Never had to listen to yourself when going on about Endeavor, have you!? And see? You just admitted the peeper is older!”
“That’s fan rambling, and ever since I had to work with him, I have held my horses in check, hon. As for the other thing? Honestly, I never asked about their birthday or age, but I've been getting older sib vibes. Could be younger or as old as I am, for all I know. But let me fucking continue. SO… we've been getting along okay lately. Way too well, actually, considering the mutually hostile ~strictly professional~ gig we both started out with. Not that we're not assholes to each other still, but we are… like, frenemies.”
“Strangely mysterious person is already starting to sound like you.”
“…”
“Okay, Pot, okay!! Stop looking all disappointed and tell me about Kettle.”
“… Kettle will be a great stand-in name, thanks for the contribution. You are allowed to acknowledge this with a hum.”
“Mhmm.”
“Excellent. Back on topic… as you know, my yesterday… had been a thing.” For the first time that day, the smile disappears entirely.
Rumi hums again with a nod, which doesn't get shot down. From what Hawks was willing to share about family, it had been obvious that he wasn't on particularly good terms with his parents in the first place, but…
“Long story short, yesterday was also internship day, and I was in a pretty bad mood when we met. Tired, anxious, angry, you name it, I had it. Thankfully there's no news coverage, and I didn't want to bring it up, either… but Kettle… knows me well enough to tell when I’m faking it. And how to push my buttons. The prodding got the best of me, eventually; really, this irritating bitch can get under my skin with an efficiency you can only dream of… but anyway, I was so pissed... like, borderline feral, that even they were surprised. Which, in turn, made me feel like a wreck once I realized what I was doing. So they hammered the last nail into the coffin by putting on their calmest, most civil face, -a rarity, really,- to ask the single, logical question in that situation. And I caved. For a dreadful moment I honest to god thought Kettle would make fun of me, you know. What kind of number two hero has their mother stuck in detox every three months…? Fuck, if not for the bar fight, I wouldn't even know she relapsed two whole years ago already! But, uh… they… seemed to understand. We had a therapy session for peasants at my place, then. Kinda like what we have sometimes. And that's when it really got…” Tongue click. “… heavy.”
Rumi’s ears have been attentive and alert, but hearing this makes them part. She takes a second-long break; there's something that usually helps Hawks sleep a little better. And heart-to-hearts tend to push him over the brink, hell, some nights they do this just so he can get some rest. “… You cried.”
With some delay, he nods. “… I did.”
She lets out a tired sigh. “Managed to weird ‘em out, huh.”
“Actually… it ended up being a half drunk weeping contest for the emotionally constipated,” he muses, eyes staring into a scene from the past, located somewhere past the pen in his right hand. “They opened up a little to me, too. Which was new, but… comforting. I learned that while my mother frequents the station, Kettle’s mom has been hospitalized with a severe case of mental breakdown since they were a teen. They miss her… but cannot visit. They fear that showing their scarred face would make her relive the freak show that resulted in her being sent there in the first place.”
“ … Jesus. Both of you sound like the life of the party when running a hashtag-mood.”
The remark brings back the shadow of his happy smile. “I guess so. But, guess what?”
Hers returns as well; they reached the nice part. “What?”
“I ended up leaning onto Kettle… and them onto me. We hugged it out… and stayed like that for like an hour, the sniffling messes we were. And in the morning… I woke up in the arms of someone, warm and safe… sun shining into the room, little bastard relatives chirping outside. I could even smell fresh coffee being made someplace, coming from the open window. And that… that felt divine.”
Rumi takes a delighted sigh. “The life, bitch. That's… the life.”
“Yeah.”
They lie around like that for a few minutes, sprawled on the counter as the noises of the still busy restaurant creep back into their little bubble before it inevitably pops. Hawks breaks the comfortable silence then. “All in all… I admit that you have been right about me all along.”
Her feet bounce an increasingly impatient rhythm against the metal frame as her mood and blood pressure lift back to normal. “Right about what? You are a felon for not supporting pugs, an abomination for even daring to look at pineapple pizza, and an absolute disgrace for turning down ghost peppers! Be more clear, dammit.”
Hawks tosses the long forgotten pen onto the form pile and leans in closer, hiding his mouth with his hands from view. He breathes it in a whisper so low, only people with superhuman hearing or big ole rabbit ears could catch his voice right now. It’s time to make her day, too. “Rumi, I think… I'm hella gay.”
She reflexively does a little hop on the stool as a very high pitched “Holy shit…!” escapes her mouth, turning some heads. Seeing that it's the two of them up to their usual shenanigans, the few people return to their own worries and discussions.
It takes her inhuman effort not to screech like a hare on the spot; punching the air and gasping for it, she calms down eventually. Having found a semblance of self-restraint, she leans back down in, aggressively whispering to him: “First of all, told you so, and more importantly!! Bitch, you're in love, and didn't tell me?!”
As much as Hawks enjoyed watching her outburst, he finds himself sinking behind his arms now. The incessant grin is back in its full glory and is starting to hurt his cheeks, which have turned very pink in color. An unconvincing “nah” is the only thing he can muster.
Rumi breaks into some light-hearted cackling as she moves over, then gently peels Hawks’ defenses off of him to have a closer look. “Bruuuh…! You are in full rose textured shojo manga mode. That's adorable.”
There’s an attempt at rebuilding said defenses. “Shut it, you overgrown furry.”
She’s unperturbed by the lukewarm defensive taunt. “And you kinda smell like smoke from up close, too~ It’s your first love, right? Aaah, baby boy’s growing up, I’m so happy for you…!” With that, Hawks receives a spine shattering hug.
“Rumimyribs,” is all he can squeak before the gesture does more than just some joint popping. He’s had a near-death experience with these ever since the first time she did that, holy shit.
“Hee hee~ I didn’t forget you’ve got bones made of glass, don’t worry.” She pops back down onto her seat while Hawks gets over the scare. “Sooo... when are you gonna introduce me to your boyfriend?”
“It’s… just a crush, man. He’s… not my boyfriend…” Even thinking about it feels weird… and saying it… really is something else.
She nods. “He doesn’t know it yet! Gotcha.”
Siiigh. “Girl, I can’t just…” STOP, stop… hold the damn phone right there. Ending that sentence would birth more questions to dodge, and he’s not up for brain work at the moment. With a dismissive wave, Hawks restarts the answer. “Anyway, you've seen him already at the very least, so there’s that.” That's all she needs to know- they both know a number of people with fucked-up faces, she won’t admit possibly having missed him, and this… will destroy her.
“… well shit. Now I'll stay up at night wondering who the fuck it might be.”
Bingo. “You’re welcome.”
“Asshole,” she huffs, swatting his hair before settling for a good ruffling. “… say, baby bird.”
“Hm?”
“Want a drink? It's on me. Let's pop one in honor of your heart throb and first crush.”
... uh-oh. “… Rumi.”
“I hope you know this calls for some supreme shit… let me look for a good place nearby, for after this hell is over.”
She's already typing into her phone. Oh no.
“Rumi.” This does not bode well. He has so much shit to do tomorrow. And here’s this pile of junk, most of which he’s yet to have a look at…
“How’s a Zombie sound?”
“RUMI,,,”
Note
This is the second time I've found somebody who got into the mha fandom from Nov 5 within two days of each other, except yours is a reverse reaction XD That OP was someone who understood all the memes EXCEPT "what is a dabi and why is he touya" when Nov 5th first had Dabi trend above the election and all that happened, the rest of us were dying to know the confusion it caused to the non-mha fans and the poor twitter headline writer who had to wonder why a burnt anime boy was trending that day.
hello anon thank you for making my day other five asks below the cut bc this became a Long Post (ur right it's more.... I try to be as considerate as possible to other people on my dash so I've gotten into the habit of readmores for long posts?)
(2) So thank you for sharing your story, even in the form of an insane chunk of tags lol. Some fics updated before canon reveal actually contain crumbs of canon too just because the author goes back and edits it in, usually names since they can't change the entire fic of course. This is the case for Hawks's name, we used to call him "Takahiro Sora(ta)" after a fic first kickstarted the name. But shortened it because birb + sky. And hawk + word that sounds like "hero"
(3) In Dabi's case, it was whatever name related to spring or autumn the author could find, I've seen Haruka used once. (Because the Todoroki sibs are named after seasons, Touya and Shouto are too but vaguely and I forgot which is which.) Their tags are HUGE and I've read so many fics these past 4-5 years, I'll have to get back to you later because not only do I have so many deadlines, but also have to look through them all again 😭 Once you have canon sorted out, do u wanna hear fandom stories?
(4) You really had to go and choose the only two mha characters (Dabi and Hawks, Aizawa is fine) who caused an absolute RIOT in fandom. In so many ways, but we'll stick to one type for now. Dabi??? We been knew who he was, but it actually wasn't his backstory reveal trending that day, it was his name, which was also revealed 100 chapters ago! Just not connected to him. We got EVERYTHING wrong about his backstory, the single thing we got right was the method which was a beloved fandom dream.
(5) And even then some of the "method" caught us off guard, I won't spoil you but boy am I tempted to ramble cause these are all my favs too lol. Hawks? We got everything RIGHT. But in all the worst ways. Every crack theory we had became canon. Everything we thought about his backstory was severely understated or we were outright tricked into thinking it was something else because of how it was drawn. It does NOT help that these two aren't often written accurate and they LIE a lot. Good luck!
(6) Also I would love to know what your osmosis journey has taught you if you're willing to share, it's always funny I want to see if you fell for the same things we did or even the same things other osmosis readers fell for. It shows just how strong fanon becomes XD I could send a really long ask, but decided to send it in parts so you could hide it under a read more, since it looks like you don't like long posts. Also! I can find canon retellings, but how do you feel about canon set fic?
OKAY SO
funny story with (2) actually I have seen something like this happen in the star wars fandom, specifically with Dooku. I read several fics that referred to him as 'Yan Dooku' and there is so much spinoff material that, like, I went 'shrug even though this doesn't appear in the movies it might as well be true' bc it was in multiple fics. and then was brought up in question whether or not that Was His Actual Name and it had gotten into fandom osmosis enough that it made it onto a wiki page it took quite a while for me to convince myself that no.... no this wasn't actually Dooku's name...... canonically he only had one name...... someone had just picked it up and run with it..........
but that's so fun and funny I love it, good job fandom choosing names, that's great
I mean I Do Not Mind Spoilers, I'm already pretty spoiled for this thing and am only going to learn through fandom osmosis and love fandom stories so if you want to give me The True Story Of Trending/ Method, I would love that
also deeply amused that I picked the two most Fandom Rioting characters to love this is GREAT, I would absolutely love any set-in-canon fics mostly, like, 'alternate universe -- no quirks' doesn't interest me very much bc there's less grounding into the things that I find interesting in the setting, but otherwise p much anything goes
alright so the interesting thing with 'things I learned from osmosis' is that you need to understand that I started out this fandom reading a jjk crossover fic where My Fave Character Gojo Who Has Math Powers That Are Ridiculously Overpowered and this fic was 'Gojo Is Reincarnated As Dabi He Keeps His JJK Powers And Just Gets Dabi's Too And Decides Instead Of Being Responsible For The Whole World He'd Rather Just Fuck Around And Have Fun And Kind Of Accidentally Gets Labelled As A Supervillain For This And Doesn't Care And Is Also Adopting Half Of Class 1-A Bc The Teacher Instinct Never Goes Away' but it means that a whole bunch of things that were from the initial osmosis were like.... me knowing the character Gojo and assuming things were him and not BNHA; it took my a few chapters to figure out that Dabi was actually a character and not just the hero/villain name that they decided to give Gojo throwing him into the universe (and also that all the other characters who appeared were actual characters and not OCs)
but anyways some fun weird osmosis things
I at first thought that everywhere having star wars names was 100% just Gojo having fun naming places. the star wars names have come up enough that I'm pretty sure everywhere does have star wars names. this is so weird to me. like I guess if it's set on earth that's a historical reference not copyright infringement but W I L D
I've gotten used to gay canon pairings in a few things and I did legit think Aizawa and Present Mic were married for a little while. I think that's just a popular ship now but a person can dream
given other ridiculous parentage reveals (mostly Dabi) there are a number of fics where All For One is Izuku's father. I am now, like..... 65% convinced this is a fan theory but am leaving a 35% convinced this is canon
I figured out really quickly that Hawks/Dabi is a popular ship, which, like, good for them it's fun with their backstories but then exactly bc of the backstories and the ship, 100% assumed that 'Hawks goes undercover to try to infiltrate the League of Villains' was a contrived reason for them to interact. at this point I'm 95% sure that no that's an actual canon arc not just a fanfic thing
on the opposite end of the spectrum I am fairly sure that Dabi is not the lead singer of a mcr-style emo/punk/rock band but boy did y'all have me going for that one a lot
cannot tell how much the League of Villains are Misunderstood Poor Little Meow Meows who just want to Change Hero Society and Unfortunately Are Somewhat Willing To Murder To Get There and how much they are murdering psychopaths I think it's the latter but it's funny how many fics they seem a lot more willing to be chill in
also having a hard time telling who is currently dead or not as well as whether canon had a Nomu apocalypse arc and canon itself is now in some horrible everyone-barely-surviving setup or if things are more chill there but I hope y'all are having a good time wherever you are
those are most of the ones that I can think of, the rest of the osmosis has mostly been me picking up what the main events of the first few arcs are, general things about how quirks work, I'm fairly certain the reveal that One For All kills you/ages you at an accelerated rate came late enough bc there are a number of fics that are 'Izuku actually has a quirk!' that does not touch that angst at all but yeah out here having a good time mostly
Headcanon dump. Feel free to disagree, but if you do and approach me about it, please be nice?
Shoto is asexual demiromantic. This means he has no interest in sexual stuff in general and he will only be romantically attracted to people he feels close to.
I will carry the idea into threads - and I do, a lot - that the more threads I have with someone, the closer they are (while all are separate verses, if it’s with the same blog, then it counts as him feeling closer to certain class members as the thread continues/we start new threads). This closeness does carry from my canon verse into the pro hero verse (however, other verses are only influenced by what happens in that specific verse).
He actually regrets his choices when it comes to his hero outfits but he feels it would be more effort than it’s worth to change it - although, he does change to a nicer looking outfit for pro hero verse. I’ll probably do a rough sketch of my idea but I cannot draw so bear with me when I do that one.
While he had bad fashion sense - for the most part - at the start of highschool, by third year he’s learned how to dress in a way that’s both classy and casual (like button-down shirts with jeans, for example).
While Shoto isn’t really a fan of jewellery and accessories, he can often be found wearing flower crowns after the end of first year.
He and Uraraka probably made friendship bracelets for the izucrew and other friends - Asui, Iida, Midoriya and Momo all have bracelets from the two. (Shoto has probably given bracelets to Kaminari, Mina and several OCs as well, just from threads/interactions with ones he classes as friends).
Shoto loves physical affection, but he gets overwhelmed very easily and will shy away from it in public too. However, he enjoys holding hands with his friends, short hugs etc etc.
Upon graduation, Shoto got keychains for his friends. Two for each of them. One keychain was a picture of them all and the other was a cartoon cat, a different colour for each person corresponding to the colours he associates with them.
Shoto has a colour he associates with everyone he knows. For his mother, it’s a pristine white, for his father a fiery orange, for Midoriya forest green etc etc. Often, gifts given for birthdays/christmas and the like to those friends have to do with that colour, even if he never actually says anything about it.
Shoto finds comfort in music and when he feels anxious or overwhelmed, he usually puts headphones on and listens to his favourite bands. He feels the messages from music and relatable lyrics help him cope with his past and his feelings.
He also has a song he associates with each of his classmates/teachers, but he would never tell them what it was.
While he never really knew Touya, he does miss him - more in the sense he misses the brotherly relationship they could have had.
He is good with words, but only when writing - he can phrase things in beautiful, descriptive ways while writing them, but actually speaking? he stuggles a lot with it at times.
He has a habit of denying anything troubles him when confronted about it. He may give offhanded comments then and again that hint at his past, but when someone directly confronts him, he can feel panicked, so therefore denies it and attempts to change the conversation topic.
He does want to forgive his father, despite his intense hatred towards him, but he still feels like his father isn’t trying hard enough or doing enough to fix their family. In the end, while he doesn’t want much to do with the man, he wouldn’t really completely cast him aside either as he holds onto the childish hope that his father truly is going to change for the better and at some point, he’ll be able to forgive him.
This does not mean he doesn’t hate him, it just means he wants to stop hating him - and just because he forgives him doesn’t mean he’ll forget either.
If his father went back to abusive habits after Shoto finally got over it, he’d have no problem cutting Endeavor out of his life completely. He just believes that everyone deserves a second chance, even if they’ve done terrible things.
He also doesn’t hate his father as much as he thinks he does, he realised that when he felt distressed at the idea of him dying. He knows he still harbours an intense hate, but it doesn’t mean he wishes for Endeavor to be hurt/killed. The idea of that actually upsets him a lot.
He just rules it off as being that Endeavor is still his family, no matter what (he would feel the same way about Dabi, for example, if Dabi turned out to be Toya. He doesn’t want his family to be hurt even if they’ve done pretty terrible things that Shoto couldn’t forgive).
This does NOT mean the mun is an Endeavor apologist or anything, I’m just trying to be realistic to a point - no matter how much you hate someone who is family, you can still feel upset at the idea of anything bad happening to them. This is just how complex human emotion actually is. I don’t think Endeavor has redeemed himself or is anywhere close during the canon time, but Shoto wouldn’t be able to hold onto that hatred forever. No one can hold onto hatred forever, no matter how intense.
I don’t excuse what he has done nor do I condone/tolerate it either, I am aware of the extent of his abuse towards Shoto and his family, I am aware it was TERRIBLE and UNFORGIVABLE, but that doesn’t mean there’s no possibility of him being forgiven, only that it would take a hell of a lot of work, time and effort.
It is unhealthy to hold onto hatred and the past as much as Shoto does, which is he fully of aware of, hence why I portray him as someone who WANTS to forgive Endeavor but feels as if he CAN’T in the current time. It’s the same for Dabi - he (and the mun) acknowledge the mistakes made, crimes etc and that there are consequences as their should be.
I just wanted to clarify that before people accuse me of being an apologist/condoning and tolerating abuse because honestly, I really really do not. As someone who has faced that sort of thing as a child, I understand the things such harm can cause (although not on the same level as Shoto) and I understand how hard forgiveness is when it comes to it.
So please, no hate for that. It’s just what I, personally, believe and what I feel the muse would think too. Anyone who doesn’t like it? Don’t send me hate, you don’t have to agree or pay attention to that as it isn’t really in any threads. If it’s that much of a problem for anyone, I’d rather you unfollow and block though. I don’t want to be involved in anything just bc of a couple headcanons. It’s completely valid if people have headcanons that are the complete opposite, I support that stuff entirely as well.
Anyway back to the headcanons:
In his dorm, Shoto has several boxes of stationary with cute, novelty things. For example, butterfly rubbers, paw print covered pencils etc etc. He has a soft spot for adorable things.
He chose the hero name Lacuna half way through second year after spending some time researching interesting words (because he was bored). Lacuna means “missing piece” and he feels that symbolises how he felt like he was missing something his whole life, after his mother was sent away and such.
He eventually chose his full title to be “The Guiding Hero: Lacuna” as he wants to be a hero who guides others, who helps with bad situations - a dependable person people feel they can go to outside of fighting villains and rescue operations.
After graduation, he spent a year working at Endeavor Hero Agency before leaving and starting his own agency. He plans to merge both when his father retires if Endeavor Hero Agency is left to him. Shoto has no plans to take his father’s hero name when he does retire, as he wants to be a separate person - his own person.
He would explain as much to his father if he felt it was important to or he was asked to take up the name of Endeavor at a later date.
He loves pale blues more than any other colour and often decorates rooms using it (he painted all the walls in his first apartment blue).
The reason he tries to excel at things and work hard is because he fears being thought of as a disappointment by anything.
Headcanon dump. Feel free to disagree, but if you do and approach me about it, please be nice?
Shoto is asexual demiromantic. This means he has no interest in sexual stuff in general and he will only be romantically attracted to people he feels close to.
I will carry the idea into threads - and I do, a lot - that the more threads I have with someone, the closer they are (while all are separate verses, if it’s with the same blog, then it counts as him feeling closer to certain class members as the thread continues/we start new threads). This closeness does carry from my canon verse into the pro hero verse (however, other verses are only influenced by what happens in that specific verse).
He actually regrets his choices when it comes to his hero outfits but he feels it would be more effort than it’s worth to change it - although, he does change to a nicer looking outfit for pro hero verse. I’ll probably do a rough sketch of my idea but I cannot draw so bear with me when I do that one.
While he had bad fashion sense - for the most part - at the start of highschool, by third year he’s learned how to dress in a way that’s both classy and casual (like button-down shirts with jeans, for example).
While Shoto isn’t really a fan of jewellery and accessories, he can often be found wearing flower crowns after the end of first year.
He and Uraraka probably made friendship bracelets for the izucrew and other friends - Asui, Iida, Midoriya and Momo all have bracelets from the two. (Shoto has probably given bracelets to Kaminari, Mina and several OCs as well, just from threads/interactions with ones he classes as friends).
Shoto loves physical affection, but he gets overwhelmed very easily and will shy away from it in public too. However, he enjoys holding hands with his friends, short hugs etc etc.
Upon graduation, Shoto got keychains for his friends. Two for each of them. One keychain was a picture of them all and the other was a cartoon cat, a different colour for each person corresponding to the colours he associates with them.
Shoto has a colour he associates with everyone he knows. For his mother, it’s a pristine white, for his father a fiery orange, for Midoriya forest green etc etc. Often, gifts given for birthdays/christmas and the like to those friends have to do with that colour, even if he never actually says anything about it.
Shoto finds comfort in music and when he feels anxious or overwhelmed, he usually puts headphones on and listens to his favourite bands. He feels the messages from music and relatable lyrics help him cope with his past and his feelings.
He also has a song he associates with each of his classmates/teachers, but he would never tell them what it was.
While he never really knew Touya, he does miss him - more in the sense he misses the brotherly relationship they could have had.
He is good with words, but only when writing - he can phrase things in beautiful, descriptive ways while writing them, but actually speaking? he stuggles a lot with it at times.
He has a habit of denying anything troubles him when confronted about it. He may give offhanded comments then and again that hint at his past, but when someone directly confronts him, he can feel panicked, so therefore denies it and attempts to change the conversation topic.
He does want to forgive his father, despite his intense hatred towards him, but he still feels like his father isn’t trying hard enough or doing enough to fix their family. In the end, while he doesn’t want much to do with the man, he wouldn’t really completely cast him aside either as he holds onto the childish hope that his father truly is going to change for the better and at some point, he’ll be able to forgive him.
