I've been going through A Time and have chosen to cope by going back to the specific vibes of 2016 to 2018. That happens to include an incredible resurgence in my love for MCU fanfic, the community around it and all the love that goes into them. I've felt a bit distant from here for a while, but I still see so many of my old friends writing, ones who want to get back into it, and a whole lot of new writers I am dying to meet.

I've floated this idea vaguely on my blog and people seem to be interested so I figured it was worth a shot!

Hello! I'm Caeli. I'm 23 and a journalist by day, rabid Fourth Wing/Empyrean and Star Wars fan by night. FW got me back in to reading fantasy, and then IF left me with a crippling book hangover. Update Schedule:

I don't have one! Like I mentioned in my intro, I am a journalist by day, which means I already do a lot of writing on a daily basis. I love it, but that also means that during busy news cycles I might not have the time or the desire to write. I do this for fun and because I love sharing the worlds in my head with other people, but my first priority will always be myself. If I haven't updated in a week or two, that doesn't mean they'll never be updated! I will always put a note on my Tumblr if I'm putting something on hiatus, along with an estimate for when I plan to start updating again.

What I post about

In order to keep myself accountable, I post frequent updates on my writing progress here. As I said above, I write these stories because I love them, but also because I love sharing them. This helps me stay on track, while also letting people know the general progress of the next chapter.

How long will castles crumbling be?

TBD! Tales from the Airport Bathroom was no plan, just vibes. castles crumbling is the extended version, so it will obviously be longer. While I do have a general plan for this here extended version, I don't have a chapter-by-chapter outline the same way I do with Swan Song. This is partially because I'm still going back and forth on how parts of this story will go, but also because I want to try writing in a bit of a less structured way than I have been doing. I can't imagine it will be shorter than 25 chapters, but honestly, who knows? I'll update this when I have a better idea.

When will you update Addendum again? When should I read the different Addendum chapters?

I created Addendum because I wanted to give people insight into Nora without interrupting the flow of Swan Song. I expanded this concept by adding in a Violet POV chapter as well. These provide context to certain interactions, foreshadow future events, or otherwise flesh out the world in which Fen and the other characters inhabit. In short, it will be updated as needed.

okay so I've been seriously considering participating in febuwhump for royai (because whump = royai, obv, and I've been itching to write some angst/hurt/comfort), and earlier I was screaming over the prompts because they're so royai. Also, there's one for bees (day 9), which I can totally do a scene inspired by the bee scene in xfiles (*cackles, screams, jumps for joy*), as I will never shut up about how royai and mulder/scully are coded the same.

anyway, I was freaking out about this to my husband, who has to Deal With All My Shit (™), and I was reading him the list of prompts and at day 16 (came back wrong), he goes, "'Came back wrong'? That's so fullmetal alchemist." And I was like "right?????"

The prompts are so good - "suffering in silence"? "Killing in self defense"?? "Blood stained tiles"??? "You weren't meant to be there"???? "Not allowed to die"????? Like, royai, hello??????? *flails* I'm thinking I'll likely do drabbles, between a few hundred words to max 1k, just to keep it concise and not burn out (especially because I'm hoping to do the royai big bang as well - and I'm planning to have all the prompts done for febuwhump finished before the end of january, so it won't overlap). If I did my usual 5-7k words for each day, I'd die lmao. Some self-preservation is needed.

13. Who would smoke weed in a confessionary?

"I mean, does she have a rule against it?" Ruggie asks, wiggling his fingers. His hair is mussed-- artfully, though Riddle is loathe to admit it-- and his clothes are rumpled. Likely from the manhandling Riddle gave him as he dragged him outside by the wrist a few minutes ago. Ruggie's chin is balanced on his palm, elbow leaning on his bent knees, looking for all purposes like the patron saint of not-giving-a-damn.

"Well--" Riddle puffs his chest out, before deflating in defeat. "No. Not that specifically. But--! You got thrown out of a church!"

Ruggie tips his face towards the sky, squinting in thought. His legs are splayed over the church steps, and the stained glass behind him is bathing him all kinds of colors. It's beautiful; it makes him understand the artists of yore, trying to capture their muse. Riddle hates it with a passion.

"Worth it."

"You are such a bad influence!" Riddle cries. "I mean-- drugs! Illicit substances! In a place of worship!"

"I'm s'possed to confess my crimes, right? What better way than by showin' him exactly what I've been doing?"

Riddle shoves at his shoulder. "You're the worst!"

"Yeah, but Queenie," he sways into Riddle's space, filling the air in front of Riddle's face with warmth, with the smell of him. "Which one of us is out here with me?"

Riddle smacks the back of his head. Ruggie just laughs.

16. Who would be best at drag?

Jay poses dramatically in the mirror, the eyeliner and glitter covering his eyes anything but tasteful. He buries a hand in his hair, fluffing the ends up, pursing his lips in a mockery of coyness.

Behind him, Mal cackles like a hyena. Evie is surveying her work with a critical eye, sweeping him over. Stepping closer to him, she grips him by the straps of his remarkably stupidly short dress. When he's standing still enough for her tastes, she sweeps a necklace from her pocket, glittering silver.

It's cold around his neck. He turns to survey himself again, eyeing the way it brings out the warm tones in his skin. "Oh, yeah," he says, cocking a hip. "I look hot!"

Mal buries her face in her pillow to muffle the hysterical screams of mirth she's giving out. But what does she know, anyway?

22. Who lets the intrusive thoughts win constantly?

Evie eyes herself critically in the pitifully small screen of her phone. She has the camera on, pointed at herself, squinting past pixels and smudges to get a good look at her appearance. She curses herself for forgetting her compact; she's in the trenches at this very fancy, very Auradon party without it.

Well, she needs to reapply her lipstick, that much is obvious. And she should probably excuse herself to the little girl's room to re-do her hair. It's starting to look a little... frizzy. And oh, God, is that a pimple--?!

Carlos shouts, with the kind of rage that levels happy little kingdoms like Auradon, "Oh my God, you did not just drop your fucking pickle into my drink!"

Mal laces her hands behind her head, smirking in self-satisfaction. "Well, you said you didn't want to eat it."

"I don't want to drink it either, you little shit--"

"I can always feed it to you like a baby bird?"

Carlos stands, grabs his water glass, and dumps it over Mal's head. She gasps, her perfectly curled and style hair plastered to her skin. Her eyes are flaring, but she's stifling laughter, even as she launches herself over the table with a shout of, "De Vil--!"

Evie sighs into her hands. Well, at least she's not worried about how she looks, anymore.

24. Who goes to a haunted place only to start yelling at the ghosts to try to challenge them?

"Come on out, little ghosties!" Mal shouts. Jay presses a palm over her mouth, trying and failing to quiet her. She merely grips his palm and yanks it away from her face. "The big, mean, evil faerie is here! Come and get me! I'm not scared of you! My mom's the mistress of all evil, bitches! You're nothing!"

"Big?" Jay asks, raising an eyebrow.

Mal whirls on him, jabbing a finger to his chest. "Say that again, and I'll turn you into a ghost."

He holds up his hands in surrender, but his grin gives up the game. "Girl, you like me way too much for that."

"Girl?"

"What, you want me to call you pet names in front of the ghosties? What would you prefer? Baby? Sweetheart?" He slowly wraps his arms around her middle, nosing against her cheek as she hisses putridly at him. "Honey-bunches? Schnookums?"

She guffaws, shoving his face away with her hand. "You're gonna wish you were a ghost by the time I'm done with you, asshole!" She squirms, but he holds steady. When a ghost-- an actor in a morphsuit, as far as he can tell-- jerks out at them, she jumps about a foot in the air with a two-toned, piercing shriek.

She calms, cheeks blazing pink as she stares at the actor in embarrassment. As if it's, like, cringe of her to fall for the whole game of a haunted house?

"Come on, miss evil-faeirie, let's not get thrown out of the haunted house, yeah?"

She snarls at him again, but holds his hand all the way to the end.

29. Who gets arrested the quickest?

Worth it, Evie mouths. She's visible through the window of the cop car, cheek spattered with a splash of dark blood. She looks utterly at home, sighing in lazy contentment. Then, with a start, she sits up, opening the door.

"Puppy? Take my bag, will you?" She says, handing him her blue, sequined purse. He takes it, nearly pitching forward from the sheer unexpected weight. He let's out a loud, annoyed groan, hefting it up. It clinks audibly.

"How many knives?"

"In there? Oh, honey, too many to count."

The cop comes around the corner, slamming the door shut. Evie laughs into her palm, eyes little half-moon circles of mirth. He says, "I don't want to see you again, Grimhilde."

Sickly sweet, Evie drawls, "Of course not, officer."

34. Who’s been accused of murder?

The lunch table goes deathly quiet. Jay meets Evie's eyes first, then Carlos', then Mal's. As one, they turn to face Chad Charming. He's holding his lunch tray defiantly, sticking his chin out with an arrogant swagger.

"Dude. You realize nobody can die on the Isle, right?"

Chad balks at them. "Really? Oh, thank God. So you haven't killed anyone! I was starting to get worried."

"What?" Evie says. "Worried?"

Mal says, "Do you really think a bunch of Villain Kid's wouldn't take advantage of the fact that corpses don't last?"

Chad's starting to go chalky white.

Evie balances her chin on her hand, sighing wistfully. "I miss being able to get kill the creepy men. It was cathartic, you know?"

"One time I threw Harry into the sea," Carlos adds, tapping away at his phone.

Chad's eyes are shuttered with open fear. Swallowing visibly, he manages, "But not you, Jay?"

He raises an eyebrow. "Why do you think Carlos threw Harry into the sea?"

38. Who accidentally ate 400mg worth of edibles?

"I'm fine," Carlos slurs, sinking into the couch. It's a considerable feat, considering that, before, he'd been sunk so far into it that you could barely see him. He's dressed in one of Jay's sweatshirts, hood pulled up over his head and drawstring tight. His cheeks are flushed and his pupils are blown wide, and he keeps blinking, slowly, and then startling up.

"Yeah, I'm gonna be honest, you really don't seem fine." Mal replies. "Why does it smell like weed? Is that why you're like this?"

"Did you know," Carlos says sharply, with the kind of abrupt cadence of someone deeply inconvenienced, "that cannabis can be cooked into baked goods?"

"Uh oh, you're being a smartass." She presses the back of her hand to his forehead, and he whines. "Very ominous. Never a good sign."

"Shut the fuck up," he mutters, yanking the nearest blanket over his head.

Mal leans over the back of the couch, pitching herself forward. The couch digs into her stomach, her feet hovering off the ground as her face lands in the mess of blankets and pillows on the couch. It's almost nestlike, honestly. She pulls herself up onto her elbows, legs dangling free.

"Did the puppy eat too many pot brownies?" She cooes, reaching out to tap condescendingly at where she thinks his cheek is. He snarls wordlessly. She snorts. "Stay here. I'll get your dumbass some water and food. It'll sober you up."

As she turns toward the kitchen, so weakly she can barely hear it, there's a soft hiss of, "Thanks."

prompts: 25. Questioning/Discovery + 16. Tomorrow + 15. "How do I know you're real?"

fandom: techincally XCOM: Enemy Within but really XCOM 2 (gen verse)

TWs/CWs: implied torture, memory loss, loss of sense of self

The Commander knows there's something up when they meet Central, even here, stifled by professionalism and fear. They know it by their pulse jumping, in their mouth drying, in the weird feeling in their stomach.

At night, they lie in their small room, staring up at the ceiling, and they wonder.

(He feels familiar, somehow.)

On bad days, the Commander wants to hide away and curl into him, bury their face in his neck, but that's not allowed. So they duck into a bathroom instead and try to compose themselves, eyes squeezed shut, imagining they're home.

(They aren't going home.)

The Commander learns about him-- and it's weird how sometimes hunches they had about things, even really specific things, turn out right. Where he went to college, his favorite drink, his actual name.

They wonder about what he might say if they ask for what they want. Do they want that? What does it make them? The Commander isn't sure, but there's time to learn.

Maybe just not here. Not with him, anyway. God, they think, that hurts for some reason. Like a mourning, like grief.

When the base is attacked, fire and sirens and staffers brawling each under inexplicably, the Commander half except to find Central dead, to lose the base entirely. They don't know why.

But the Hologlobe returns to life, and their senior staff are near them, and they've made it through the darkest hour.

They hope so, at least.

That night, like every night now, the Commander lies in bed and stares at the ceiling and wonders. They don't get very far into their reverie, though, because there's a knock at their door. They hesitantly peer out at --

"Uh, hey, Commander," says Central.

They pull him into the room by his arm and then into a hug. He's a little stiff and unsure, but they don't let go.

(In their mind's eye, they see his corpse and their body shakes.)

When they finally let go, step back, Central is flush about the ears. "I wanted to check on you," he manages to say. "After everything today..."

"I'm glad you did," they answer. "C'mon, sit."

He takes a hesitant seat at their desk, they sit on the end of their bed. For a while they just exist in silence, and then the Commander asks, "What will you do, when it's over?"

Central looks thoughtful. "It's hard to imagine that," he says.

It won't happen, says some dark part of them. You're here forever, running in circles.

"Try," the Commander says.

Central closes his eyes. "I'd like to move out into the country," he says. "My folks have a farm; maybe take it over when they're gone..."

He goes on, telling them about growing up there, how it was an escape of sorts from bad parents, the summer nights, and slow living.

They listen intently, imagining. They want to ask if they could come with him. They hold their tongue instead. There will be no after XCOM for them. No need to...

To what? Get his hopes up? Get their hopes up? He probably doesn't even swing their way. They...

As they listen, the Commander realizes they do. They do like him, like that. It doesn't matter because they can't be a thing, but they know now. They guess that's important to be able to know.

(The realization never sticks.)

In the in-between, when there is only pain and pain and pain and pain, but before everything is wiped clean again, the Commander remembers the truth, swears this time they'll hold on to it.

(They say that everytime.)

Slowly, they lose more, but they don't realize it. They can't, not while under, and when out they have no time to.

Their world bleaches white, no past, no self, until eventually there is nothing of who they were left. All of it dripping away through pale shaking fingers

There is only who they are.

And then that is taken too.

All that remains is a title, a purpose, a sense of foreboding, a determination.

(I am the Commander.)

It is near the end. They lie with Central, breathing softly into the pitch dark. They've found a Volunteer. The Gollop Chamber is done tomorrow.

They look at their XO, watch his body rise and fall with each breath and they ask, so quietly, "How do I know you're real?"

There come no answer other than Central mumbling incoherent in his sleep.

The Commander's head aches, the pain increasing as they try to think a little more about their question, try to wonder why they even asked, until--

What were they thinking about? They don't remember.

It's okay.

(It isn't.)

1. How many times would you guess you watched the first Back to the Future movie?

I think around twice!! Once in a hotel room and once at a friend's house for labor day, plus the last 7-ish minutes when we found it on TV in another hotel room over Thanksgiving break :D

2. Did you get any sweet bttf merch? If so, what!

YESSS I DID!!!!! My dad gave me a Hot Wheels DeLorean from the third movie for Christmas, and my bf gave me a Doc and Einstein funko pop that I'd been losing my mind over 😭 those off the top of my head, I'm sure I bought myself some other things that just aren't coming to mind lol

3. How many cans of Pepsi Free did you chug this year?

I don't think any,, I'm more of a regular pepsi enjoyer myself

4. What was your favorite bttf fanfic you read this year?

In all honesty I didn't read much fanfic this year, but it was always a pleasure to read @bg-sparrow's mcflyjuly and doctober drabbles!

5. A favorite bttf fanart you saw this year? (please give us a link, not a screencap/repost!)

Ohh jeez I cannot choose just one so here are...

^^ this one from @cineshemp, the colors and lighting of this piece are so pretty (and it's true to life too!! I live a few hours away from the actual mall where they filmed and the sunset there looks so similar to this), and both Marty's pose and expression are so on point it's crazy. Like the cheeky little half-grin?? That's him. That's his spitting image. That's so him that's my Marty McFly <33

^^ this one from @fiddlstyx, I love this one because 1) just fiddl's art style in general is so cute, and 2) because this is so true to the scene! Fiddl nailed Marty's spooked expression, and the hand vibrates my brain so good. Both the shape of the hand (I struggle so hard with drawing hands lmao) and also especially the transparent effect, which is hella impressive to me on its own but on top of that it's traditional art,,, I would've struggled so hard to achieve that effect on paper so this totally blew me away!!

^^ and finally this one from @cheriboms!! I absolutely loved the perspective and expression on this one, I adore how cartoony it is :D cheri is somehow always able to draw doc looking incredibly doc-like while simultaneously making him look entirely her own (same goes for Marty too) and it never ceases to amaze me. This fandom is filled with such incredibly talented people and I'm so lucky to be friends with them <33

I did!! I didn't draw or write a whole lot of bttf stuff this year, I only did a few small things but I'll link em anyway cause I'm still proud of em :)

^^ the one mcflyjuly prompt I had the time and energy to do!! I based this fic off of a few episodes of the 90s cartoon iteration of The Moomins. The episodes I based this off of are about a child who turns invisible because of her bad family life (Marty's circumstances in this fic aren't as severe, but he's still Going Theroux It™️). I wrote this a little angsty throughout but with some hurt/comfort at the end,, and I really love how it turned out :)

^^ and then this is I think the one piece of bttf fanart that I drew the whole year 😂 just a lil Marty I drew on a to-go cup during my work shift. I'm very proud of him tho I feel like he's very Marty-y :D

7. How many times were you late for school this year?

Uhh not very often!! I think I showed up a little late to maybe 3ish classes? Which isn't too bad haha

8. Did you watch any other movies/TV shows with BTTF actors in them?

Yep! I watched Clue (1985) for the first time which had Christopher Lloyd, then had one one of my friends watch Star Trek III: The Search For Spock with me which I actually forgot had Christopher Lloyd as the main villain 😂 my college friends and I also watched Over the Garden Wall twice in the fall (Elijah Wood voicing Wirt and Christopher Lloyd voicing the Woodsman), and then my family and I watched Elf on Christmas day which had Mary Steenburgen :)

9. Was there a memorable moment you heard a Huey Lewis song this year?

I don't think anything really groundbreaking, just a few times when I was in a store and one came on and I started jamming haha

10. How many times did you fall down this year?

Probably a lot but the only moment I can immediately recall was eating it hard on the residence hall stairway right after saying goodbye to my parents for the semester LMAO 😭

11. Did you get to see BTTF: The Musical? What was your experience like!

Sadly no, although I really want to 🥲 I still gotta look up the clip from the Thanksgiving day parade that I missed!

12. How many times did your mom retell the story of how she and your father met?

Mmm probably around 3-5? But it was never really the same retelling,, it was more like she just told me new details or stories about when they were dating. It's always really sweet :)

13. If you could describe your year in a BTTF quote, which one would it be?

"Ah, wait a minute, wait a minute Doc--" (this year moved WAY too fast lmao)

I'm gonna try to make more of an effort in my classes, and I'm hoping to expand more upon a play I started writing for class last semester! It was initially just for the assignment but now I've gotten attached to the characters and I have a little lore down so who knows >:D

Freddie is 16 years old when he leaves boarding school. Does it have something to do with the school gardener, Sanjay? Did he flunk his exams or did he not even sit them? Is one thing connected to the other? Does he really find a boyfriend when he goes to stay with his aunt in Mumbai (then Bombay)? When Freddie met Kenny

Freddie is a guest on Kenny Everett's radio show in spring 1974. Freddie is living with Mary, Kenny is married. Two gay men, deep in the closet. To no one's surprise, they hit it off immediately. (Source: x )

But when did he? 

At some point during his relationship with Mary, prior to his relationship with David, Freddie had already begun sleeping with men. But how and when did that first happen? Cottaging in London? On tour somewhere in the world? Your guess is as good as ours… 

Flying High

1. Tamaki’s greatest wish in life is to have a family. A whole, complete, loving, annoying family. He made that happen at Ouran, and he wants to make it happen with you, too. When he loves, he loves with all his soul.

2. So he doesn’t understand why partners cheat. It literally astounds him. You’re in a relationship with this beautiful person you love, and you’re going to throw it all away?

3. So when he sees your ex and remembers all the things you told him they did to you, it takes everything in him not to go up to them and just tell them off.

4. You’re out shopping when you see them, and you silently duck behind Tamaki’s tall frame.

5. He instantly perks up and asks you to point out who it is, keeping you hidden behind him. 

6. When you show him, he pulls you to his chest and wraps his arms around you, burying your face in his shirt so you can’t see them.

7. Petting your hair and whispering sweet assurances in your ear.

8. “You’re with me now. You don’t have to be afraid.”

"How'd you meet 'kaa-san, otou-san," two pairs of black eyes peered up as Sasuke tucked their blanket around them.

He lifted an eyebrow. "You've heard it before, boys."

One boy shook his head. "We forgot." The other agreed, nodding vigorously.

"I met okaa-san, fell in love, and got married." He tapped their foreheads. "Goodnight."

Ignoring their grumbling, he closed the door.
