Ok nope can’t not comment. the reason that they selected those particular movies as the best science fiction movies isn’t just because of the science used is sound. It’s also the premise of those movies. All of the movies above are asking a what if question. For the selected worst the question they ask is not scientifically sound, no theories or real science used. It’s really just heroes try and save the world premise not a science fiction one, and yet they’re categorized as sci-fi because they have science like things in them. They are not true sci-fi in my opinion. The movies on the good list, on the other hand, did their research and asked thought provoking questions. Take note of the top of the list: Gattaca. It asks what if in the future your genetic code determines your life and career. Then it asks follow up questions: How would you be treated if your code wasn’t perfect, how far would you go to cover your “imperfect” genes, how far can you get in a system designed to keep those with unfavorable genes separated from the ones with the good? I can keep going. everyone of the movies nasa chose as their best picks ask those kinds of questions then they back it up with relatively sound scientific research. Out of the seven top I haven’t seen numbers 5 and 6. Each of them are great examples of science fiction. Go watch them somewhere. Out of the bottom I’ve seen the core and Armageddon great action flicks but not what I’d consider science fiction. And yet because they have science and space in them they’re categorized as sci-fi.

“Baby, what’s all this?” You asked.

You’d walked through the door this evening, after a very long shift at work, to a bouquet of your favourite flowers and a bar of your favourite chocolate waiting for you in the kitchen.

After placing your keys in the designated bowl on the kitchen side, you went over to the flowers and gave them a huge inhale. Mmm.

Harry walked in the kitchen a few moments later, looking proud of himself.

He was dressed in his pyjamas already but hadn’t gone to bee. It was his routine of waiting up until he knew you were safely home. Plus the fact he couldn’t sleep without you next to him.

“What’s the occasion?” You asked, feeling the soft petals of the flowers for comfort.

“Does there have to be one?” Harry scratched the back of his neck, yawning softly. He looked so sleepy. So perfect.

“You got me flowers and chocolate just because?”

“Uhh, I think so. Yeah.”

You hadn’t even taken off your coat before launching yourself at him, wrapping your arms around his waist and smushing your cheek against his cheek to pull him close.

Harry stumbled only a little before he grounded himself and returned the hug. He kissed the top of your head a few times too for good measure.

“You’re the best.” You grinned, looking up at him from your awkward angle below his chin.

His cheeks flushed and he let out a breathy laugh, leaning down to kiss your lips softly. They were warm and soft compared to your cold ones from being out all day. Being close to Harry was a comfort like no other.

You giggled after he gave you a final kiss, dipping your head back onto his chest.

“Don’t get shy on me now.” Harry teased, still hugging you as you hugged him.

“Just can’t believe you got me flowers and chocolate.”

“Well, believe it baby. They’re all yours.”

You stood there in the warm glow of the kitchen lights for a bit longer, embracing each other like the world and time hadn’t kept moving on. After a horridly long day, you didn’t need anything more than hugging your favourite person.

“Harry?”

“Mm?”

“Wanna share my chocolate and watch a Disney movie?”

“Yeah, babe. I do.”

“Good. I wouldn’t have taken no for an answer.”

Bravo to you for choosing not to let Rem be forgiven so easily. Honestly I've never been a big fan of Rem as a character, sometimes her endless pandering and obsession with subaru just really annoys me instead, and I've never understood people looking at her doing all that and then saying “Wow that's so hot I'm so jealous of Subaru!”

As for the ones who want her deeds to be easily forgiven by everyone, my personal guess is that they all only care about her body and the unheathy way she forces herself to act like the perfect waifu just for Subaru's sake, but subconsciously they can't stand the shit she did either, so they secretly want their favorite waifu to be a perfect being without flaws. But to me, isn't it essential to love a character and accept their flaws as well? They did wrong things, but there's no doubt THEY did them anyway, and that is part of what makes them who they are. Another thing is that forgiveness has to be earned, we're not cruel, coldhearted, or closeminded for not forgiving someone who hurts us. So I too agree with that anon who thinks WHDAA cast need to to beat some sense into Subaru on way too forgiving and tolerating the people who have hurt/killed him.

But now that you've decided to do that, beware of those rabid Rem stans coming after you and I'm worried that their harassment goes overboard and affects your personal life

I will say — I believe that Rem and Subaru’s canon dynamic is one of the most intriguing and multifaceted dynamics in the entire series. Their parallels regarding their insecurities and family members, their mutually codependent tendencies, the way they run the risk of becoming each other’s perfect enablers, the genuine sense of love and affection that runs parallel to the unintentional toxicity fostered within their relationship — it’s all really interesting stuff. In fact, exploring their dynamic through the lens of outsiders (including amnesiac!Rem) finally getting to peer under the hood is one of the main reasons I wanted to write a react fic at all.

As for why people like her — honestly, I think it’s kinda easy to guess? She’s a very cutely designed anime girl, she’s incredibly well-voiced, her insecurities are genuinely relatable, she’s got a super awesome oni power-up transformation, her morning star lends itself to some of the best choreographed action scenes in the series (or at least Season 1), she appeals to the whole “submissive maid” aesthetic that she knows Subaru finds attractive (and that also appeals to the target demographic of Re:Zero specifically, let’s be real here) — and frankly, there are so many scenes in anime where characters we’re supposed to like do fucked up shit that it’s not difficult to just…gloss over the whole “tortured the mc for several hours” part of her character. It’s understandable, especially if you’re not an insane person who spends all their time hyperanalyzing the anime they’re a fan of like I am. I don’t think it’s really that far of a leap for her to develop such a massive following, she was basically designed to be as popular an anime waifu as physically possible.

But then, that clash can become…a little uncomfortable if you’re writing a story where “Rem tortures Subaru” is a major plotpoint, and if you don’t want to reevaluate their entire relationship, it makes sense to find a way to just — get the characters to move along, much like a lot of the irl audience does.

But I really like toxic characters and angst and complicated relationships and all that fun stuff, so that’s what I’m gonna focus on. —Also Rem is WORSE in the LN. Girl starts fantasizing about whisking Subaru away while he’s practically comatose from shock (second Arc 3 loop) and then also makes a comment like “even if he had tried to assault her in her sleep, she knew she never would have resisted” like GIRL??? The idea of not tapping that insane well of potential drama is ludicrous to me lmaoo— especially because I really don’t care about maintaining the status quo ;)

(Also frankly, anyone who would start seriously harassing me over whether or not I share their opinion about a fucking anime girl is too pathetic for me to care about. I honestly don’t think I’ll get that big of a response — especially not on Tumblr “Gay Website” Dot Com — but even if I do…I don’t care, lmao.)

It’s had been a pretty good day so far, I was sitting next to Noah on one of the sofas in the creative studio where all of desigin for their merch took place.

All of the guys where gather together having a good time after a good day of work. We were drinking our favorite drinks cracking a joke here and there. If I’m being honest I don’t really bring much to the table when it comes to designing stuff but my favorite thing is to hang out with the boys especially Noah, he was one of my favorite people ever.

“So Y/N, what do you think about the designs so far?” Davis asked, he was head of designs here so I appreciated that he even asked for my opinion.

“I really like them, fans are gonna go crazy over them, so cool that this time around you guys don’t have limited quantities so everyone can really get what they want”, I said

“yeah that’s a plus, I’m really glad we where able to do that this time around” Jolly chimed after he took a sip of his drink.

The conversation went on for a little while about random topics here and there . And somehow we ended up talking about true crime which is one of my most favorite subjects.

“Oh yeah! I recently watched a documentary about serial killers” I took a breath “sometimes I can’t believe what a human being is capable of doing whatever the motive is”

Folio looked at me “I don’t know how you can watch all that stuff and not feel sick, you’re so brave”

I chuckled a bit at the comment “my family is big on horror so I grew up watching docs and horror movies”

“that explains it” Nick said laughing

As I went on to explain something else regarding the topic I noticed that Noah really wasn’t involved in the conversation, he was just humming and looking directly at me. I turned my body so i could fully face him.

“hey big boy, what’s got you thinking and smiling like that?” I said intrigued

“Oh nothing” he chuckled

“Please tell meeeee!” I made my best puppy eyes at him, completely putting on second plain the conversation happening in the background. “Are you even paying attention?” I asked.

“Fine I’ll tell you but you have to promise not to make fun of me” he said looking quizzically at me.

“I can’t promise anything” I said looking around to the others getting up from their seats and making their way around the room, but when I looked back and catched Noah’s brown eyes looking at right at me I couldn’t resist “okay fine I promise I won’t make fun of you”

He stared at me with a wide grin “ Oh I was just thinking about how lucky I am”

“Lucky?” I questioned

“yes lucky, lucky to have you.” Noah mentioned

“silly old me?” I said joking

“Absolutely, I’m gonna be honest I haven’t heard anything you said in the last ten minutes but damn did I realize that I love watching you ramble on about your interests” he says laughing “I love looking at how you express yourself and how pretty that face of yours is” he said grabbing my hand.

“im lucky to spend everyday i can with you, and even know the rest may not realize it; they’re lucky to have you in their life as well, even if it’s just in little moments like these.” Noah said adjusting his position.

I didn’t know what to say; heat rose to my cheeks.

“You’re beautiful and I’m so lucky you’re in my life” he said leaving a small kiss on my temple .

I couldn’t resist just giving him the biggest hug, but what he didn’t know is that I was the lucky one to have him in my life.

ok the way gem actually was walking towards pearl's general area while pearl was holding the mace. and idk if she actually saw pearl but im pretty sure gem looked up, turned back and walked right to where skizz asked her to??? and pearl just had to stand there and watch as gem basically gave the kill to skizz. like ohhh my god i have so many thoughts about this but all i can say rn is what in the world of yuri.

it’s so funny how they spent half their episodes effectively trying to provoke the other person as much as possible

i mean, do i even need to explain. they want each other baaaaad. on surface it might seem like another failing-to-kill-gem bit, especially with the comical sequences of pearl putting down the creeper eggs and gem easily dodging. however, both pearl and gem approach their “designated” roles of would-be killer and exasperated target a little differently than they did before. pearl doesn’t try her best, and gem doesn’t mock her like she did mumbo/tango.

gem and pearl hold each other in high esteem. even when they hate each other they obviously still respect the other’s skill. i suspect this is part of why gem was so offended when pearl tried to “2v1” her with impulse; because pearl was being stupid by underestimating herself, and then obviously because it was SL all over again.

let’s not even talk about both of them beelining for a camel. this is by far the number one WL ship right now in terms of content and actual interactions (besides ethubs). it’s not shipper mind, they’re actively pulling these stunts to see how crazy they can drive the fandom. like, the thirsty comment, “my poor red pearl”, “gem you’re beautiful”??? i swear they’re scheming on discord before recording or something (jk i know they aren’t).

cc!pearl did mention on stream that she should probably back off which is funny because it shows she didn’t pick up the obvious social cues that gem wanted to give her a chance by offering a 1v1 instead of flat out saying “don’t kill me” or “you suck at killing me”. also, if there are other pearl stream watchers reading this post, you would know that pearl said the same thing about not wanting to bother gem too much over the pickle bit, which is why she dropped it so suddenly. honestly very considerate of her

as for their convo on the camel. gem is explicitly grasping at straws over the end portal thing, but “did you even look me in the face during the murder camel… thing” is a great one-liner out of context. i thought it was going to be like a “you couldn’t even face me properly” but no it was just over the yellow life skin. pearl defending the disloyal allegations by saying scar was her ally is funny as well because it was the exact same argument she gave scott and i don’t think she understands that gem and scott have very different priorities. and gem clarifies she wasn’t upset over the betrayal (suree) but over the 2v1 which reveals some interesting things about her character and moral code which i’ll leave to the gem mains*. i do hope pearl keeps up the “how much do you love/hate me” thing though it’s a funny bit in general, plays into the pining/unmoved dynamic, and opens up the conversation. fluff duo that wants to be angst so badly

and if you’re following me and for some reason don’t watch gem or pearl, please do. there’s a reason why everyone’s saying they’re flirting because they’re toeing the line as close as you can.

what can i even add to this. it’s like going to a michelin restaurant and pointing out that the food is good.

*i always say this but i am effectively a gem main. i think her character is just too difficult for me and i don’t want to admit that i can’t figure out how to approach it

Asahi is not the biggest fan of social media.

It’s not good for his heart nor his anxiety, he says.

But it’s good for his label.

They make him shoot one design video and the views skyrocket.

He thinks it’s the design but you know better.

It’s his hands, massive yet gentle, that draw intricate lines on paper. The smoothness of his voice as he explains where he found inspiration.

The design is secondary. They’re all thirsting for him.

And you’re fine with that, well, as fine as you can be, because you know he’s yours and yours alone.

Still. It wouldn’t hurt to do something about the comments.

“What does it mean when they write: “Step on me?”” Asahi asks over breakfast, his phone in front of him. You choke on your bite.

“Is it bad?” He worries immediately.

“Well, yes, no, I mean-” You take a deep breath before launching into the quickest explanation you can manage.

Asahi’s face changes colors.

“I don’t- I’d never-!”

“I know that!” You reassure him, one hand on his. “I love you and I trust you.”

“How can I make them stop?”

“I mean, you could answer them that you’re taken?”

Asahi hesitates. “I’d rather answer “EW! Not because they shouldn’t know I’m taken but because they shouldn’t comment something like that when they don’t know if I’m taken or not. That’s not a polite way to flirt!”

You laugh. “It’s not the politest comment either, but I think it will get your point across.”

You know something went wrong when Asahi finds you during your lunch break, looking very much like the kid that just got detention.

“Hey,” you pull him into a hug. “What’s wrong?”

“PR yelled at me,” he pouts into your neck. “Apparently I’m not supposed to interact with the commenters.”

You snort. “Did you really write “Ew!”?”

“Yes,” he sighs. “And I posted a pic of our hands.”

“What?”

You pull back. He looks even more caught now, like a kid found with his hand in the cookie jar.

“I know it sounds bad but it’s that one pic we took on our picnic date, the cute one I have as my phone background! I wanted to post one of our faces but I don’t want them to know what we look like, so I figured that was the next best shot.”

You sigh. “Let me guess, PR wasn’t happy about that either.”

“Not really, but we’ve got a ton of questions about that dress you’re wearing in that picture, so now they’re bothering me about that.”

You sigh again. “Did they give you a game plan for it?”

Fleur’s UM is very similar to Jamil’s. When Fleur uses his UM, he can make others do his bidding. However, he can only use it on the same person 3 times, and the chances of the spell succeeding lowers with each time. Like, say he used it on Azul. After the first time, there’s only a 66% chance it’ll work again. And when it does work again, Fleur now only has a 33% chance of using it on Azul again and succeeding. And using it too much can cause Fleur to Overblot.

Fleur presents himself as delicate, gentle, and harmless, with a sugary sweet smile always on his face. This is all a facade though. In actuality, Fleur is cunning, calculating, and ruthless to those who cross him. He’s very intelligent, always two steps ahead in getting what he wants. He tends to use his seemingly innocent charm as a weapon to achieve his goals. He is very good at hiding how he truly feels.

Fleur is the son of very, VERY wealthy parents from Fairest City. His Mother is a controversial luxury fashion designer while his Father is an extremely busy lawyer. His parents went through a messy divorce, and Fleur was left in the care of his Mother. His Mother was an extremely harsh and strict helicopter parent, having high expectations on Fleur, wanted nothing but perfection, and almost always had something to nitpick. After the divorce, Fleur’s Father basically ghosted him and hasn’t bother contacting him.

I’d like to (finally) talk about this interview with Mark Thompson, Narrative Director on Far Cry 4:

I love it when devs talk about their work because it’s always super interesting and informative! This video is no exception.

But what struck me most when I first saw the interview is what he says about Far Cry 3, a title he also worked on as a Level Design Director, which I believe means he was not (or barely) involved in the writing of the script. When he mentions what he thinks the issues with the game were and what had to be “fixed” in Far Cry 4, the thing is that... he often contradicts what Jeffrey Yohalem, Lead Writer on Far Cry 3, explained in various articles.

Under the cut, I highlighted some parts of Mark Thompson’s interview (in red) and compared them to Jeffrey Yohalem’s words (in blue, with the sources) so you can see how different their points of view are.

In this case, when it comes to the story and meaning of Far Cry 3, I’m inclined to give more credence to the Lead Writer’s explanations, but I think this example perfectly illustrates how even people who worked on the same project can have very different (and sometimes equally valid) opinions, understandings, and feelings about it, and why it can therefore be difficult for the audience to determine what the “truth” or the “right” interpretation is…

Open world vs story

MT: We ended up shipping a game where the open world had a lot of cool stuff, but it didn’t have a lot of depth or meaning, and it had almost no connection to what was happening in the story. And in fact, in some ways, the two were kind of opposed and they were kind of conflicting each other. So, on one hand, the story itself had this ticking time bomb of “I have these friends that I need to rescue, but holy sh*t, collecting plants, finding that next animal I need for the next upgrade, getting that next skill point… Oh, look, there’s a radio tower! Wait, wasn’t I heading to that outpost?” And then you’re like, “Oh yeah, sh*t, my friend Keith’s trapped in the basement, I should probably go rescue him… I’m a terrible friend.” That was my main goal: fix this sh*t and make sure that the story and the open world speak to each other, complement each other; strip everything down so that the story and the open world are the same thing and it’s the same game.

JY: People who have looked at the surface of the game think that the story and the game are at war with each other as they are in most games, with the story just plugging potholes and the gameplay is going along its merry way. I think it’s very exaggerated that, “Oh, go save the friends! Go save the friends!” but most people are out on the island doing all this other crazy stuff and experiencing the gameplay. And that’s actually the point of the story. It’s not a game about go save your friends. It’s a game about – doing a lot of picking skins from things, and wait, it’s just a pile of meat – this doesn’t even make sense, yet I’m still doing it instead of saving the friends. The “white savior” trope

MT: We were definitely aware of some of the tropes that we fell into - unintentionally in some cases, intentionally in some - and (…) almost the first thing that we did was decide how we were gonna address the white savior trope, the outsider who comes in and helps simple people with his outsider’s kind of more advanced understanding of the world. (...) The first thing we said was, “This guy is from Kyrat, no matter what happens. That is the most important thing; he is part of this world, he belongs here.”

JY: “It’s a first-person game, and Jason is a 25-year old white guy from Los Angeles. From Hollywood. So his view of what’s going on on this island is his own view, and you happen to be looking through his eyes, so you’re seeing his view,” Yohalem explained. “It’s set on an island in the South Pacific, so immediately the thing that comes to mind is the white colonial trope, the Avatar trope. I started with that, and it’s like, ‘Here’s what pop culture thinks about traveling to a new place,’ and the funny thing is, that’s an exaggeration of most games, they just don’t expose it. JY: There’s a reason why Jason is a 25 year old white guy from Hollywood – these are all ideas that are in his head. You’re seeing things through his eyes. (...) It’s not that [Citra] needed a white saviour at all. She didn’t need a white guy at all. She was just looking for the ultimate warrior and someone to be her gun. (...) The player and the protagonist

MT: When we were doing the script review, almost immediately, the first thing we would do would be, “Okay, so how many lines does Ajay have? Okay, cut that by 75%”, and then we would review it and then cut out even more. Whenever possible, we would set up a scenario where we know or we think we know how players would react, and so we would remove the line that the character would actually say and then have the other person react to it. “Oh, you think that, do you?” - in that kind of way, so they’re like, “Oh f*ck, how did he know I was gonna say that?” Whereas, if the protagonist said that line, they’re like, “Oof, I wouldn’t have said that”, and then suddenly you’re kind of broken out of the experience. (…) When you’re in first-person, all you hear is this disconnected voice that might not be agreeing with what you’re doing. So, again, it’s just about stripping away those barriers of immersion so you can imagine yourself in this scenario.

JY: In Far Cry 3, Jason is a character and he’s not the player. The player is another character in the game. Sometimes Jason disagrees with the player, and sometimes Jason agrees with him. And the magic of that is that then it doesn’t matter! Basically, as long as the whole narrative is directed towards what the player is feeling—which for me is how videogames should be—then I get to target Jason as a resource where players can go: “I disagree with Jason.” And the player gets to convince Jason to do something else.
