Ravidasan and Soman Sambavan at Tanjore, just before Ravidasan leaves for Kadambur
"What about Maduranthaka Thevan, then?" "Let him stay alive if he wants. It will be a good thing if an imbecile like him sits on the Chozha throne for some time. The Pandya Emperor has to come of age, isn't it?"
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Soman Sambavan meeting Maduranthakan and recognising him as Veera Pandyan's son
I was wandering around the garden . . . He approached me and said, “Prince! I've come here with the sole purpose of seeing you. Periya Pazhuvettarayar and Kandan Maran sent me to fetch you. A big army is getting ready to support your claim to the throne." I became quite suspicious of him.
I replied, ‘Why should I come out if there's a big army waiting there? Why can't they come here, defeat the Kodumbalur forces and place me on the throne?’
“Prince! That's not all there is. There's a dangerous secret connected with your birth. No one else will dare to tell you about it, but I will,’ he said.
‘In that case, come, we'll leave at once,’ I said.
To which he replied, ‘I have to give the Prime Minister a piece of news. Let me first go and tell him, while you stay hidden in the tunnel.’
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Aha! Who was that fellow in Sundara Chozha's garden who said he would tell me the secret of my birth? . . . While making an attempt to kill Sundara Chozhar, he killed that mute woman. He cannot be blamed.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: The New King
When Chinna Pazhuvettarayar fell into the chasm, cries of 'Long live Amarabhujanga Nedunchezhiyan!’ rose above the noise of the falls.
Imagine Soman Sambavan sharing his exciting discovery with Ravidasan
Ravidasan: Soma, how did the mission go?
Soman : Failure, as usual. What about you?
Ravidasan: Success 😁😁
Soman : What? (Hugs Ravidasan) Yay! Yay! The sinner who took the head of Veera Pandyar is dead. Yay! Yay! Did she do it? Really?
Ravidasan: Well, I am not sure. All those fools were behaving like they haven't met a woman in their entire lives. Hiding, shouting, pleading, crying, choking each other . . . She too was screaming her lungs out. Anyway, our meen-vaal pierced his evil heart. I saw it with my own eyes.
Soman : Oho! Now listen to this. I might not have killed the usurper but I discovered our lost treasure.
Ravidasan: In Lanka?
Soman: God! No! How do I explain this? There is one more - an adult man, the heir to our throne, no, no, I mean, our Emperor. That mute woman has two children.
Ravidasan (gasping) : Explain
Soman: Ravidasare, think. What was the reason for Veera Pandyar's confusion? How did we recognise Nandini Devi? The mother and children look like they were cast in the same mould. You just have to meet him once.
Ravidasan : Did he come there in search of his sister? Why didn't you bring him with you?
Soman: There is a small problem. You see, our Emperor is . . . is . . . how do I say this? Maduranthaka Thevanrrr. Yes, Maduranthaka Thevar is Veera Pandyar's and the mute woman's son.
Ravidasan: Get lost!
Soman: I know, we have to find a new name for him. You just have to see him once. Just once. That woman . . . what did she tell us? Girly? Idiot? Idiots are those blind morons. How come they didn't realise that she looks like our Emperor in a longer wig?
Ravidasan (to himself) : Perhaps that's why they sent her away and never let him come out. (Aloud) If what you are saying is true, the mute woman won't trouble us anymore. Any woman will support her own son over her cheater ex's son.
Soman : Yeah, about that . . . She had to jump in between and spoil everything. She couldn't have survived.
Ravidasan: Good riddance. WHAT! Oh no!
Soman : Don't worry about that. I am willing to accept any punishment our Emperor decides. That will console Devi too. Don't tell her anything now. (They don't know that Madu doesn't give a damn about Mandakini's death)
Ravidasan: Hell! Even yesterday, I told Paramu that she is Veera Pandyar's consort. First things first. We need to retrieve the Emperor and convince him. Then make arrangements for your execution. The little Emperor will stay hidden untill we can be sure of his safety.
Soman: We only have to give a hint, he will come running.

Addressing Anti-Black Racism Within the South Asian Community
In the United States, tensions have arisen between African American and South Asian communities, particularly concerning perceptions of racism. Some African Americans have observed instances where South Asians, including those from India, exhibit prejudiced attitudes towards Black individuals. This is especially concerning when individuals from regions with entrenched caste systems and colorism engage in discriminatory behaviors abroad.
In India, the caste system has historically dictated social hierarchy, leading to systemic discrimination against lower castes, notably Dalits. Despite legal measures, caste-based prejudices persist, manifesting in various forms, including honor killings. For instance, in 2016, Kausalya Shankar, a woman from the Thevar community, survived an attack that resulted in the death of her Dalit husband, Shankar, in Tamil Nadu. This incident highlighted the brutal enforcement of caste norms through violence.
Colorism, or discrimination based on skin tone, is another pervasive issue in South Asia. Fair skin is often associated with beauty and social status, leading to biases against individuals with darker complexions. This preference for lighter skin can influence social interactions and perpetuate discriminatory practices.
When individuals from such backgrounds migrate to countries like the U.S., they may carry these biases with them, consciously or unconsciously. This can result in prejudiced attitudes towards African Americans, exacerbating racial tensions. It’s crucial for the South Asian diaspora to reflect on these internalized prejudices and actively work towards unlearning them.
Promoting solidarity between African American and South Asian communities requires acknowledging these issues and fostering open dialogues. By confronting and addressing internal biases, both communities can work together towards a more inclusive and equitable society.

Nearly half of the incidents (117) of hate crime were reported from the Kongu region and nearby, made up of Coimbatore, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Tirupur as well as parts of Madurai district. This region, which is dominated by the landed and politically influential Gounder and Thevar castes, is otherwise notorious for atrocities against Dalits. Pastors have been evicted from the spaces they rented for prayer meetings, and attacked on accusations of conversion by Hindutva forces, chief among them the Hindu Munnani. The playbook in many attacks in the region is almost identical: identify a church or prayer service, incite the neighbouring residents by claiming conversion, surround and attack the churches, pastors, their families, and prayer halls, get the police involved, and force the landlord to evict them from the premises by threatening further violence.

I have finally made spider-man ocs … ans their all for the same connected universe, so let’s go!
Summer/Winter/Autumn Jade Jameson
Tumblr media
goes by her middle name Jade. Each different name corresponded to a trilogy and has significance. She’s the granddaughter (sometimes daughter) of J. Jonah Jameson and has his same passion for reporting. She’s also the twin sister of Four Jameson, and the best friend of Peter Parker. He takes the photos, she makes the story.
John “Four” Jonah Jameson iiii (mcu fc: jordan fisher)
Tumblr media
Family legacies are hard to live up to, good thing Four has no intention. Refusing to even go by the J-name granted. If Jade wants to spend the rest of her life trying to impressive everyone, that’s on her. He still loves her though and his mom, their all very close. He plans to spend his life pining in silence for Jade’s bestie. Which doesnt leave much time for hobby’s. Well, there’s always marrying rich right?
Karis Stark aka Charis (mcu fc: landry bender)
Tumblr media
Tony’s daughter. She kinda exists to be a character foil to peter, but also works as one for Jade, and kinda Four as well. Basically, she’s a hero for all the wrong reasons. Fame and adorabtion will only placate a need to be loved for so long before she snaps. Let’s hope the Spidey-team isn’t hit with the shrapnel.
Riven Thevar (mcu fc: maitreyi Ramakrishnan)
Tumblr media
With great power comes great responsibility, but what happens when your literally not responsible? If an alien uses your body to commit atrocities, is it still even your body? How many of those sins are yours? Riven is going to have to find out those answers the hard way.
Opal Refre (mcu fc: maude apatow)
Tumblr media
She’s the spider-man internet personality. absolutely determined to find out who he is, at any cost. Her fans are just as passionate as she is. Has the biggest following on Tik Tok. Absolutely loses it in NWH.

Iraniyan was born in 1920 in a lower-class family in the village of Vattakudi in Tanjore. He was named Venkatachalam on birth. He belonged to the Agamudaiyar caste, which is part of the Thevar caste cluster. Though the Thevars have been implicated in many caste clashes in the previous century, especially against the Dalits, it is worth noting that the Thevar castes like the Kallar and the Maravar were profiled under the colonial Criminal Tribes Act. Apart from being routinely harassed by the colonial police apparatus and subject to several acts of violence, the Act also hurt their socio-economic mobility. And despite their toxic caste pride, the vast majority of the Thevars continue to be in a poor state even now.
To seek better employment opportunities, Venkatachalam and few of his relatives went to Malaysia to work as manual laborers. There, he was radicalized under the influence of Tamil left leaders and changed his name to ‘Iraniyan’. Significantly, ‘Venkatachalam’ is a South Indian name for Vishnu, while ‘Iraniyan’ is the name of the asura Hiranyakashipu, who was killed by Vishnu’s Narasimha avatar. In that period, several Tamil-Dravidian ideologues were engaged in subversive readings of Hindu myths, and they saw Iraniyan as a Dravidian hero who stood up to the Aryans, in the way that Jotirao Phule saw Mahabali as a subaltern hero who resisted the Brahmins. Venkatachalam’s transformation to Iraniyan also saw a sharpening of his activism. He also actively took part in Subash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army.
Iraniyan returned to Tanjore around the time of India’s independence and militantly organized landless peasants, most of whom were from the lower castes. He openly confronted the landlords, including those from his own caste. He defied the feudalistic caste boundaries – not by bypassing them, but by confronting them – and tried to unite the laboring classes against their oppressors. In this period, the Congress government in the then Madras Presidency sided with the big landlords and was harshly cracking down on labor organizers. Iraniyan, who was in hiding, was in their scanner. After an intense hunt, Iraniyan and three of his closest comrades, were rounded up by the Madras police and shot dead in May 1950. Years later, the Communist Party of India (CPI) erected a monument in his honor in Tanjore. Iraniyan’s legacy is important because his short life was a promise of genuine comradeship and solidarity across caste-lines, for a universalist cause.

why do u think we are seeing a lot more radical cinema (esp anti caste) coming from tamil industry & not so much from the rest of the south indian film industries?
I think it's a couple of things. One is the history of Tamil Nadu politics and a very explicit anti-Brahmin/anti caste movement where film was a major vehicle for that ideology especial under the Dravidian political movement. Tamil Nadu is unique in that sense in South India where, very explicitly anti-caste in its film industry and narratives. The Image Trap by M.S.S. Pandian really goes into this development particularly with the development of MGR, the figure of the subaltern hero. Highly recommend that and also his other works especially as a critical history of the Dravidian movement. Parasakthi (1952) is one of the mainstream films in Tamil Nadu that achieved success.
Rajesh Rajamani in this interview with Anurag Verma (also recommend the podcast as a whole) goes into this history of anti-caste films in TN.
Then in the 90's forward then have this dominant caste backlash where there is an assertion of intermediate, dominant caste pride with films like Chinna Gounder or Thevar Magan, and the figure of the mass hero moving into this caste location. Again, reactionary response to social justice and progress but you can't erase the early histories of that.
Finally, the current new wave of not just specifically anti-caste films but films that are about Dalit assertion is credited to Pa. Ranjith. This is not just a result of his commercial successes and skill as a filmmaker but also what is essentially (using US social movement language) cultural organizing where he is directly investing in and supporting a new generation of artists like the Casteless Collective, Sneha Bacin, Mari Selvaraj, Arivu etc who are contributing to this narrative in the film industry. Neelam Panpaattu Mayam (Neelam Cultural Center) has a great team that is really highlighting arts and culture, and providing important cultural critiques as well as celebrating Dalit, Adivasi, and Bahujan artforms and their histories. I honestly don't see this in other film industries, but correct me if I am wrong.
