Lost STIV BATORS footage found - made into amazing new video!!
Interview with Stiv solo/latterday Dead Boys bassist, Frank Secich, about how this new clip appeared - featuring exclusive pix!!
"Me and Stiv Bators at record release party for the Orchids in Hollywood in 1979." - Frank Secich (photo by Lisa Secich)
------------------------------------------
Frank Secich is an endlessly inspiring rock'n'roll lifer who began his career as bass player for the great early 1970s Northeast, Ohio, proto-power pop legends, Blue Ash.
Later in the decade he hooked up with fellow rust-belter, Stiv Bators, as part of Stiv's ongoing post-Dead Boys projects. That sometimes led to Dead Boys reunions too, of which Frank was the faithful bottom end. -- You can read this full interview I did with Frank a few years ago when he released his wild biography, Circumstantial Evidence.
"Me with Stiv Bators at my old apartment on the West Hill in Sharon, PA, December 17, 1978. I think we (me, Stiv, Lisa and Cynthia Ross) went to see the Talking Heads and hang out that night in Youngstown!" - Frank Secich (photo by Lisa Secich)
------------------------------------
But first check out this INCREDIBLE new video for "Circumstantial Evidence"!
Circumstantial Evidence - Stiv Bators Band
Frank got the video from his pal who made it last week, and when he posted it on Facebook, it led to a goodly portion of classic punk fandom freaking out.
I asked Frank if he could answer a couple of quick questions about the new video, and as it turns out his friend made a new Dead Boys video from found 1979 footage too, which can be seen on Frank's FB page.
For now, check out the interview with Secich below.
--------------------------------------
So, who made this video, and this is the first time you've seen it, right?
Frank Secich: The first time I ever saw the "Circumstantial Evidence" video was a few days ago. Filmmaker Rob Luttrell just recently made it with his old film he had found and restored. He sent it to me, and I was stunned and shocked how good it was. It was the first time I had ever seen these old clips in "Circumstantial Evidence" from footage that he shot at the Whisky a Go Go in L.A. and the Heat Club and Town Hall in New York City in 1980. Stiv's solo band at this point was Stiv Bators, Jimmy Zero, guitar, George Cabaniss, guitar, David Quinton Steinberg on drums and me on bass. Also, guest starring in the video is Dee Dee Ramone!

----------------------------------------
So Robert had all that original film? Will we maybe see more such footage?
F.S.: Yes, there is one more of "Sonic Reducer" from 1979. Rob and Marty Abrahams made this one in early 1980. We used to use it as a promo film back then, and we would play it right before we took the stage. Rob has digitalized it and improved it, and it is very cool. It features the Dead Boys at that moment -- Stiv Bators, Johnny Blitz, Jimmy Zero, George Cabaniss, and myself. Cheetah had just broken his wrist right before this gig at Irving Plaza, so George was filling in for him. This film was done at Irving Plaza in New York City in January, 1980.
While watching the videos, what are some memories that popped to mind?
F.S.: I was just flooded with memories. Rob really captured the spirit of our chaos back then. We used to have so much fun. It really was a wild ride like that almost every night; and of course you could never predict what Stiv might do. It was an exciting time and we toured North America constantly from 1979 until January of 1981, with slight variations of that band. I am really glad the line-up of the band has been preserved on film for posterity.
Do you have specific memories about any of the shows that are seen in this clip?
F.S.: The fans ripping Stiv's shirt off are indelibly imprinted in my mind. He would also hang himself on stage with a microphone cord which would scare the hell out of me. One time during those gigs we were all flying around on stage, and I turned around quickly and he jumped up and I accidentally knocked him out cold with my bass. He came to pretty quick and said to me, "Did it look cool?" I said "yeah!" The Stiv beer fountain at the end of the film is really cool as well.
"Donna Santisi's cool photo of me and Stiv at the Tropicana Motel in W. Hollywood in early 1979!"
--------------------------------------
Anything you want to say at all about these new videos…?
F.S.: It really brought back such great memories of a time and place that was very special and now forever gone. In one day, there have been over 5,000 plus views of "Circumstantial Eveidence" just on my Facebook site, and people's reactions have been amazing. I hope that Rob has more films because these are very special and quite a tribute Stiv and his legacy.
------------------------------------
Hope you will remember those days at the Whisky after seeing the video. I used what I could salvage after 44 years of deterioration (mold and color loss and scratches). These two films were shot on no budget before MTV existed. - Rob Luttrell
"Mick Rock's picture sleeve photo of Stiv and Frank for Bomp's single "Not That Way Anymore" in 1980." - Frank Secich

The book is a useful reference work for anyone studying women's art of the late 19th century

Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway!
I don’t write that much fanfic so mixed in some original work about OC’s here :>
1. The Measurement of Time - Original Work
It is ten o’clock on a humid night when his daughter, in a rare fit of wakefulness, asks him for a story, and Marcel del Mundo III attempts to bargain.
2. All Soul’s Day - Original Work
Aling Mila’s is a small, nondescript pandesal-and-coffee store, just around the corner of Haven of Rest Funeral Parlor.
3. Mars Shall Glow Tonight - Star Trek: TOS, Star Trek: The Voyage Home
He's getting a bit tired of the navigation console, mostly because he's already been promoted and promised his own command and their impending court martial might just end up delaying things, so Jesus, Mary, and Joseph have mercy if he's not really in the best of moods.
4. people have been trying to kill me since i was born - Star Trek: AOS
When he is older, and perhaps wiser, and when the death of Vulcan has become a distant memory enshrined in the now thriving Ni’Var with its new people, and when, much like his counterpart, gray has crept on his head and a blue uniform has been traded for the robes of his homeworld, a thought, which has been growing steadily in his side, blooms with the breaking of a bond.
5. all my theory complete - Star Trek: TNG
Malcorian mathematics (or at least, the one that eventually dominated their world) was formed, much like so many Federation cultures, on native Malcorian hands.
6. seek the shelter of some other place of worship - My Fair Lady, Pygmalion (Shaw)
When the old lady professor down the street dies at last, it is with a quiet sigh— a vast ocean away from her indignant cries so long ago in Covent Garden.
7. The Effects of Hair Growth on Tectonic Plate Movements - Original Work
“I’m sorry, I’m— ,” the therapist’s brow furrows before returning to smooth professionalism. “— I’m not very familiar with that particular theory.”

four ships: i don't really ship much, sorry for being boring
last song: currently listening to caroline shaw's by and by; i love her partita for 8 voices and entr'acte for string quartet, i'm trying to explore more of her stuff (and stuff from other contemporary classical composers in general). by and by has these simple hymnlike melodies and ethereal sparse texture to it that's just gorgeous, which remind me of parts of dave malloy's ghost quartet (especially tango dancer) in some ways.
currently reading: the thought of work by john budd. it's fine i guess; i'm reading it for class. i don't really have anything i'm reading for pleasure at the moment since i'm too busy during the semester for it.
last film: i think it was everything everywhere all at once? it was good, i mean it's obviously a very well made film and i do see what everyone else loves in it so much; it just did not resonate with me nearly as strongly as i expected given how much everyone i know hyped it up. it's good, and i recommend it, but i can't help but feel like i missed something.
craving: khao soi. my kingdom for a bowl of khao soi. (it's almost lunchtime and i am very hungry rn.) also i'd love to be able to come up with a Fucking paper topic for class since it's due tomorrow but i've got squat atm.

How Does Science Enhance our Understanding of the Natural World?
With the rise of technological advancements, society has become more rational, and the ability to think with reasoning is prevailing more. These advances have been due to the steadfast efforts of our scientists, who have discovered and invented much for the betterment of society. These processes have enabled us to capture our surroundings and understand the functionality of many essential things.
Through science, we can observe the patterns, relationships, and trends in our natural world in more depth. These observations are a way for us to hypothesize and theorize, enabling us to create ways to unravel the complex underlying natural phenomenon.
However, as explained by Arjen et al. (2014), science education is primarily focused on knowledge and skills. The want for knowledge and to understand our surroundings have led to the unfathomable advances within the past century. The lack of emphasize on values, which ultimately change the behaviou to better understand the natural world are seen. There has been limited if not scarce integration of these two ideologies within our society.
Combining the both, the battle against creating a sustainable world would more favourable. The “whole-school approaches” are much needed to create ecoschool, that blends learning with (an as important factor;) community engagement (Arjen et al. 2014).
Personally, I think that during the last decade, specifically during the pandemic, this school of thought was very evident. The combination of science education and enviromental education was seen. We started by implementing vaccines, which ultimately allowed for us to view the natural world around us differently. Water bodies were cleaner, tourist took a new turn, the importance of keeping a healthy environment was noted was a vast population. These tragic times attached many to create a emotional bond with natural environment. The logic-based personalities found an slight combination emotion too (Theresa et al., 2024).
The perspective on the importance of the natural world was noted. The need and urgency to keep our environment as pristine as possible. This was due to the large-scale studies that were being conducted around the world (which was in lockdown), a perfect opportunity. The generated motivation was immense! I feel that a reason-based approach is good, even great, but a reason-based approach with gratification will enable us to better adapt to our incoming problems of the natural world. Our science will ultimately need compassion to fulfill our demands.

One headcanon I have for the boys' funerals is that they were all in the same week and Bobby only owned one suit (hand-me-down from one of his brothers that fits him badly) that he had to keep washing and drying after each service.
Alex's funeral is the last of the three and his dad makes a snarky comment to Bobby about his shirt being wrinkled and Bobby cries to Rose afterwards that he doesn't know how to iron that well but his mother has been away for one of his brothers sports things so he couldn't ask her for help.
