Which version of this do you prefer?
See tags on original post for further notes
#okay so the original work here is slightly odd:#there's the original pulp stories some of which have been compiled into books#theres also other books- like 50+ books overall- written by several different authors#so I was not entirely sure if or how to include some of these books as an option#especially since some have been arranged in a timeline that includes the original author's works.#so in terms of the literature I'm not entirely clear what is and isn't part of one continuity and what is fully an adaptation with its own#so the books are not a separate option here from the original stories#I also didn't include Conan and the Young Warriors separately because I guess its a sequel to the earlier animated series#so not something in its own continuity#also as with previous comic polls; comics have many unique runs so it can be a little hard to judge them as one whole thing#but you can take the comics option here as meaning “generally speaking I prefer the comics” instead of indicating a specific run#also I do know there's comics under two different labels but. I don't know to what degree they're fully seperate#and to what degree its technically one continuity that was sold from one company to another company#so the comics option is just general comic versions of the character#polls#tumblr polls#adaptation polls#conan the barbarian#conan the cimmerian#robert e howard#conan comics#conan the barbarian 2011#conan the barbarian 1982#conan the adventurer#she is conann#conan the adventurer 1997#conan the adventurer 1992#fantasy#films#books

I know there is a pretty not inconsiderable time skip and I know the players involved would probably be the most in the know since they're working under/alongside one of the people Solas directly revealed himself as the Dreadwolf to and i know that Tevinter probably has a considerable concentration of Ancient elvhen artefacts that have likely be researched and/or used in some capacity since the fall of Arlathan
BUT MAN as much as I'm digging Veilguard so far it is a little jarring to go from how in Inquisition like two people know anything of considerable veracity about ancient elvhen stuff to the point it's required to explain who Mythal was to anyone that isn't Dalish (and one of them is Morrigan who iirc is insinuated v strongly to be not as knowledgeable as she thinks she is) to Veilguards "Ah yes, Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain. The last two elvhen gods, sealed by the trickster god Fen'Harel! In any event, this is what this magical contraption does, I need you to hold off the guardians that are going to come while I recalibrate it so we can destroy this barrier blocking our path to [Insert artefact]!"
#i know theres twelve comics and two netflix series and four books and three limited promotional web animations#another comic and two more books and a vague and ominous portend communicated through dreams#between Inq and VG that probably connects there to here#however ive not read any of them so i again its not like. a deal breaker but it *is* jarring sometimes#also plz just call them the evanuris everyone. its also super weird that everyone is like “The gods did this or that!”

so i decided i’m not busy enough with all of my other projects and i’m going to redesign my old wcrw au characters :D starting with moon and pebbles cause they needed it most
these are soooo much better and cleaner. the others were too cluttered. for comparison: here's moon and pebbles' old designs. you see what i mean?
story concept (emphasis on concept) under cut!!
Looks to the Moon and Five Pebbles were born in the mountains, to the colony of 'ancients' that lived there. A to be decided cause of death wiped out most of the colony, the only survivors being the canon counterparts of the iterators. Almost everyone decided to leave the mountains, going off into their own groups. Moon, being the oldest of her friends, led her group out of the mountains and into the nearby marshland.
Her group consisted of Five Pebbles (brother from another litter), NSH (her soon to be ex mate), UI (her kin(cousin)), and GCW (no special relation, just along for the ride). The cats wanted to separate themselves from their old customs, and renamed themselves. Moon became Moonsight, Pebbles became Pebblesnap, NSH became Jaystrike, and the others are TBD.
The cats settled in different territories, recruiting loners along the way. Moonsight formed MoonClan, with Pebblesnap as her deputy. Their neighboring Clan is (UI)Clan, with JayClan and WindClan(or GrayClan. Idk yet) across a stretch of farmland.
Somewhere between this and the events of the story, they connect with StarClan, and Moonsight changes her name to Moonstar, along with the other leaders. Not sure if I want leaders to keep their nine lives in this au, cause theres a lot of leader-swapping and keeping track of lives is. Boring. For now they can stay, but they may or may not get removed.
A few years after the Clans first form, each Clan has enough cats to support themselves against enemies.
How do I transition. There's a fire in MoonClan's territory, and Moonstar and Pebblesnap are caught in camp trying to save everyone and Moonstar sacrifices herself to save Pebblesnap. She loses a life to the fire, and another while recovering. Her injuries leave her unable to run the Clan for many moons, and she transfers her leadership to Pebblesnap, fearing she may never recover. Pebblesnap becomes Pebblestar, and Moonstar becomes Moonsight. Pebblestar appoints Goldenglare as deputy. (working name; this is meant to be King Scav's citizen drone lol)
---
Aaand that's it for now, there is way way way more for their stories, but since I plan on doing all the scugs and they tie into their stories directly, I'd rather save that for their respective posts :)
The designs I made are meant to be post-Saint, so by the end of this Pebblestar has a full star on his forehead, no scar and is fully sighted. Moonsight has a slashed star. And obviously their names are different.
---
Just for fun, I want to organize these events into their own concept series. (Titles are taken from the OST)(yes they're out of order it bothers me too don't worry)(it just makes more sense in the au)
Book 1 - Sundown: Looks to the moon POV. This would follow or start during the ancient's deaths, and follow Moon on her journey out of the mountain. Ends with the formation of the 4 groups, eventually Clans.
Book 2 - Random Gods: Pebblesnap POV. Explores the newfound religion of the Clan cats, ending with the Clan leaders accepting their new names. Also finalizes the Clan borders and their full moon meeting location (Below/on an abandoned radio tower. Yes this is supposed to be Sky Islands)
Book 3 - Moondown: Moonstar POV. Timeskip to when the fire happens, and when Moonstar loses her lives and use of her back leg. Ends with Pebblestar stepping up to leadership.
I don't like writing or else I'd make a series out of this lol. Maybe comics? But I can't see myself putting that much effort into this.
#rain world#rain world au#warrior cats#warrior cats x rain world#wc x rw#sleepys wcrw au#<- :0 new tag!!#looks to the moon#rw looks to the moon#five pebbles#rw five pebbles#with moons leg i tried to get the point across rhat it was a burn scar#not sure if i did that very well but it is what it is#anyway. i've typed too much in the past 24 hours#nap time!#btw moon is older than pebbles by like. a year? a little less?#same parents different litters situation

ROUND 1 MATCH 51
Yuuma propaganda:
“he can be yuor everything <3
im not even kidding like he has taken on so many different roles he can be your dream man (horse?) whatever your type is
he has
-won a race for you
-gone skiing with you
-gone to the beach with you (he can surf)
-offered you his scarf when it was cold
-rescued you from trouble (multiple occasions)
-fought his rival for you (another horse with a handsome human face)
-fed you asparagus (homemade)
-gotten a job in construction
-become a rockstar (dedicated a song to you and let you live your wattpad fanfic life)
all this i listed off the top of my head. theres probably more he has done but i just cant remember
hes very talented and treats you right ✓ experience rapturous love today”
Maxwell propaganda:
“First of all he’s a silly goofy guy AND he’s extremely loyal and will always have your back. Within hours of meeting you, he decides his family will sponsor you in the competition to become the crown prince’s bride. He falls in love with you along the way, never expecting you’d choose him, the younger brother of a bankrupted duke, over the prince himself. Maxwell supports you through scandals and assassination attempts, eventually facing down his own father Barthelemy to protect you and your child from the former duke’s scheming. All this on top of the years he spent providing for his brother’s ex and her secret son, keeping them both safe and out of harm’s way simply because he cared. He’s always thinking of his friends, making them laugh and eagerly joining their crazy plans without ever expecting anything in return. His smile hides a sensitive side, a man who lost his mother at a young age and overcame body-image issues, yet still holds insecurities about his value to others. Maxwell is a sweetheart who always tries to do the right thing, and I still think about him years after playing The Royal Romance series.
Okay so it's a mobile gacha game, let's get that out of the way. BUT LISTEN.
The premise of the story is that the MC is a regular waitress in New York, when a foreign prince and his friends come to her table as a way to have a bachelor party for the prince who will soon have to choose a woman to marry in a The Bachelor -type of contest. MC and the prince hit it off pretty well and one of his friends, Maxwell, decides to throw in his lot with the MC, since the house the future queen is from gets a lot of perks and his family is Broke. MC goes along bc her job sucks ass and she figures why not.
BUT THEN! As the competition progresses, the MC spends a lot of time with the prince and other nobles, yes, but also with Maxwell. And Maxwell is a clown-type comic relief character for most of the time, but also genuinely sweet and considerate, and very much on the same wavelength with the equal goofball MC. What for me personally changed the game was when MC and Maxwell dance at a ball together, and the MC can say that there's no one they'd rather dance with than Maxwell. I myself chose that in a completely platonic bestie way. But he gets a bit panicky and says to be careful not to let anyone hear things like that when MC is in the running for the hand of the prince so that no one gets any wrong ideas! And I went "....ideas? 👀"
“Unlike other romancable characters, Maxwell isn't romancable until book 2 (the previous scene is in book 1, each book ~20 chapters), and unlike other romance options, you really have to have your eyes set on him in order to unlock his route, and ohhh it's so worth it! The set-up of falling for the person who brought you there to marry someone else, to choose the jester when you were meant to have the king.... exquisite.
The dynamic between MC and Maxwell is so fun and full of genuine affection, and while other characters can dismiss Maxwell as an unserious clown, MC is very much characterised by the dialogue as Getting him and loving to express joy in life the same way he does. When MC and Maxwell can finally marry, it feels like they're really choosing their best friend to spend their lives with and are so excited about it.
I know this wrestles in a league multiple times smaller than many of the other combatants, but the Maxwell romance in genuinely one of my favourites in any video game. Give him a chance!”

Snufkin(min) Infodump!!
@cipherdragon
Long post under the cut :D
Small spoilers for Moominvalley (2019)
okok so Snufkin is a character from the book series The Moomins.
The Moomins are from Finland, written and illustrated by Tove Jansson. The Moomins have been adapted into many forms, but the main three are the comics written by Tove, the 1990 show, and the 2019 show.
There are many philosophical and queer elements to the stories. An example, is the story The Magicians Hat, two characters called Thingumy and Bob (in English) carry a suitcase containing the Kings Ruby. They talk in a different language to the moomins and are very cautious, scared that someone will try to take the ruby. They are running away from the Groke, which is trying to take the ruby. It is speculated that the King's Ruby represents lesbian love, as Thingamy and Bob are outsiders and come off as very strange to the Moomins, only being able to communicate with each other and keeping a strong hold on the ruby for fear someone will take it away. They are drawn androgynous and are a representation of a secret romantic relationship between Tove and another women Vivica.
There is also trans themes in the character of Toffle.
A large part of the Moomin franchise is Moomintroll's longing for Snufkin while he's gone, as Snufkin was based on Toves then boyfriend who had to leave for long periods of time on business trips.
A quote from the Moomin official website says:
"
In many ways the relationship of Moomintroll (Tove’s alter-ego) and Snufkin describes the relationship between Tove and Atos. Moomintroll admires Snufkin who still is quite distant and very often Moomintroll is also experiencing a deep sense of longing and yearning when Snufkin is leaving to his adventures or choosing to be at peace with his own thoughts. Moomintroll tries to understand Snufkin’s desire for freedom, even though the waiting is not easy.
Just like Tove admired Atos and just like Tove waited for Atos, his love confessions and commitment.
"
With LGBT+ people being more accepted, the new 2019 series has been dipping its toes into exploring the romantic relationship between Snufkin and Moomin.
In the first episode, Moomin and Snufkin take a walk together in the forest while a song plays in the background.
Listen to this song and tell me it describes you and the homies. (No homo)
youtube
Moomin is also shown ignoring his girlfriend for Snufkin,
giving Snufkin a bark boat (which he sees as romantic), and generally being very bi for the man.
(Theres a scene where Moomin literally lays in bed daydreaming about what's going to happen when he sees Snufkin next in this soft voice but I can't find it.)
There are also many scenes where the two slowly grow more physically intimate.
(there's also one where they're standing on a hill looking out over the sunset and then Snufkin offers his arm as they get up to return to the group but I can't find it 😭)
And thats not even including the Gayest Scene on Earth, as the fandom has dubbed it. (Skip to 2:18 for quick gay)
youtube
So. Thats Snufkin, and by proxy, Snufmin. There's a whole lot more detail I could go into about Snufkin's need for freedom contrasting with Moomin's need for affection, Snufkin as a character, other queer themes in the books, but I'm going to leave it there.
I love Snufkin <3
#snufkin#snufmin#long post#the moomins#moominvalley#im normal abt them#i swear#I also cosplayed snufkin last con I went to#so that was cool#The 1990's series is up for free on YouTube btw#:3#infodump

I just got reminded of a post where I and another person was rebloging eachother and discussing what I think was one of the sso books.
Im not going to look up the actual post/reblogs because its really not important.
But the other person said something like "typical SSE to not translating the books" or the like.
And I had to stop replying because I got so mad and no matter how many times I was rewritting my reply I just come out so aggressive. I was going to wait untill I cooled down but that never happened/I forgot about the post.
I wasnt mad for SSEs behaf, I just took that comment as a personal insult.
For starters, so isnt translating books that simple and if countries wont take in foregin books if they dont think they going to sell.
I know for a fact Game of Thrones didnt sell in Scotland untill after the tv-serie came out.
And secondly, the reason why I took the commet so pesonally was because living in Sweden I just had to accept that foreign companies will forget about us.
Like online stores not shipping to Europe, books/comic book/games not getting translated to swedish, music artists/groups doing world tours and skipping Sweden and Denmark and even Europe tour skipping Sweden.
So the idea that theres only one company/few companies that does that made me so mad. I had to sit things out because Sweden isnt one of the cool countries.
The reason why I remember this now was because I wanted to buy a cool holographic print but when I checked the online store they didnt ship outside of USA.
(unrelevant but when I sent them a email I introduced me with my name and also signed the end of the email with my name.
Only for them to reply and calling me by a name that isnt mine but a similar one that is used in america. Bastard. 🫤)

Hi, so I see your shifting to Sandman. I'm shifting to be John Constantine apprentice because I'm crazy. I know he's in the sandman universe/knows the characters, I know nothing about Sandman. Is there anything I should be prepared for?
if that makes you crazy, idk what shifting as Constantine makes me. 😭 the
yeah. theres a lot to unpack with the sandman series.
Generally the Endless don't really get involved with Constantine (unless you script otherwise) so you should be fine with them. Just keep in mind, your actions have consequences. so if you do something that messes with the Endless or their realms, they may get involved if you pose an actual threat.
You'll deal with hell/demons a lot more than the other sandman characters, so make sure you're mentally prepared for all that. bc hell/demons is a lot. especially since Lucifer Morningstar originated from the sandman series (and then got his own series which has even more stuff in it).
with Lucifer....LMFAO good luck. I scripted Lucifer is like a paternal figure so we're never really on bad terms. but he is described to be the second most powerful entity in the entire DC universe and John Constantine does interact with him/other angels and demons regularly.
my thoughts:
have protective wards/sigils that prevent celestials from doing anything harmful or negative to you. (not that anything WILL happen, but odds are it will and I'd rather be safe than sorry.)
make sure to have immunity to possession or mind control.
tbh I scripted in a book that kinda has every thing I'd ever need to know about the occult in it that I can refer to at any time. (which includes spells, gods, creatures, etc)
I'd say plan accordingly since you'd be human (I'm assuming) and will be dealing with god level entities.
I lived on the fandom wiki for Constantine/hellblazer when making my DC script. I'd suggest looking at Constantine's backstory or anything that could tie him to the sandman. Or just do a deep dive into all of the magical/celestial characters to better understand how they connect, which is what I did.
if you can't read the comics, look at YouTube videos, TikTok's, the tv shows; anything that may help you piece together the lore better (if you don't care about spoilers.)
basically, do your research. there is a lot going on with the occult side of DC and the best I can suggest is to script in a lot of protection for yourself. if this doesn't help you can always message me or ask another question :)

exceptional x-men 2 moments i incredibly fuck with:
- call back to kitty joining the x-men in the 80s and also acknowledging her relationship w/ the x-men as a whole and ororo in particular
-paralleling that relationship with her connection to this group of new mutants shes taking in
-emma frost is actually here in full and shes back to being evil. i think? at least more morally dubious than shes been
-kitty pryde on a date with a woman. im normal im so normal about this. i love being normal
-kitty pryde in the classic normal life interrupted by superhero life scenario is great we dont get that enough in comics anymore. put my babygirl thru the ringer <3
-honestly i find all 3 new kids rly charming and cool! x-men is the easiest series to add characters to bc theres so much potential for mutants to just kinda show up but making them actually good characters is another question. exceptional succeeds by every metric its only 2 issues n i feel like i get all these kids personalities really well
all in all i loved issue 2 and i am stoked to see where this series goes! in a sea of fast-paced high action X-titles, its refreshing to have a book this personal that doesn’t feel like its trying to rush into having its characters unified as a team fighting big bads n lets them be people at least for a little bit

TG: skepticism is the crutch of cinematic troglodytes TG: like hey mom dad theres a dinosaur or a ghost or whatever in my room. "yeah right junior go back to bed" TG: fuck you mom and dad how many times are we going to watch this trope unfold it wasnt goddamn funny the first time i saw it TG: just once id like to see dad crap his pants when a kid says theres a vampire in his closet TG: "OH SHIT EVERYONE IN THE MINIVAN" TG: be fuckin dad of the year right there
so fucking true Dave, keep spitting.
EB: that's fine, you are entitled to your opinion, i am just saying that being a white guy who is a rapper with a ventriloquist doll is not cool by any stretch of the imagination or by any definition of word cool, ironic or otherwise. that's all i'm saying.
ULTIMATE WHITE BOY BRO STRIDER.
oh hey it’s the page I used to showcase Hussie’s affinity for slurs.
uh
still bad.
me when I fucking sTAB MY MOTHER.
I’m having rough flashbacks to HS^2 and I don’t like it.
also I just gotta say that Mom is the coolest looking person in this entire comic I mean just look at this fucking POSE.
it just screams “hello daughter you are going to get fuckin served.”
yes. the pony. beloved Maplehoof.
I’ve always seen this idea that the process of creating Earth, and by extension Universe B, involved taking the attributes and interests of the 12 trolls and morphing them into brand new instances and ideas, like how Gamzee’s Juggalo religion manifested as ICP on Earth.
I like to think that the entirety of the For Assholes book series exists through a recycling of Karkat’s personality.
also that fucking Asshole Note is comedy gold.
aw yeah time to fucking beat the shit out of an imp let’s
shit.
W magnet.
alright for real this time let’s kick the shit out of this imp.
goddammit.
also another White John can be found in this flash, collect all 7 to turn Super White.
also the Egbert Centipede I guess.
Tip: I am so fucking mad.
OK 1 MORE TIME.
he did it. he destroyed the fucker. John man.
YES.
DO THE THING.
YEEEAAAAAAH.
yeah.
fuck you cat I am about to revive.
IT’S HER, CLOWN GRANDMA.
HI NANNA.
TG: i mean dont get me wrong i think its cool and all TG: the semi-ironic puppet thing or whatever TG: or semi-semi ironic TG: man i dont even know TG: im just starting to think some of this shit is going a little far and its kind of fucked up TT: I've seen his websites. TT: I like them.
what did she mean by this.
what did she mean by this?
what did she mean by this?!
TG: oh man i wish lil cal wouldnt look at me like that TG: with those dead eyes jesus TG: sometimes i dream that hes real and hes talking to me and i wake up in a cold sweat and basically flip the fuck out
not saying it.
Page 422, titled “[S] GO ON. ==>” completely underrated flash, just listen to this fuckin song.
youtube
it captures the feeling of a big expository RPG cutscene so damn well I love it, it’s like I’m a kid again.
this is also just one of my favorite Sburb mechanics, I love the concept of basically deciding the abilities and aesthetics of the NPCs via prototyping, it’s such a cool little thing and opens up a lot of possibility for any fan-sessions.
JOHN: ok, i think i get it now! JOHN: so i guess the battle against good and evil is sort of irrelevant? well, i don't know, that all sounds kind of weird, but in any case, we build the house to get to these gates, and then i can save my dad! NANNASPRITE: Yes, John! JOHN: and then after that, we solve this ultimate riddle thing and save earth from destruction!!! NANNASPRITE: Oh no, I'm afraid not!
NANNASPRITE: Your planet is done for, dear! There is nothing you can do about that! JOHN: oh...
I fucking love this sequence because John activates the Cheery Protagonist Mode ready to assemble a team of teens with attitude in order to save the world from Dark Chess and whatever only to hear that the entire world will end and his response is just “aw..... :(”
I went on this entire shpeel about the potential of writing an isolationist John based off of willy nilly prose narration at the beginning but MAN do the early versions of the kids not give a SHIT about what’s going on.
“John Egbert, the Earth is doomed, it is going to explode, all life will die, you and your friends will be the last living things remaining.”
“:(”
AND THEN HE JUST MOVES ON.
this is a very weird moment that sticks out when looking at the comic as a whole because the weight of literally all life dying at once is nonexistent, but at the same time, this is fucking hilarious.
it makes think about a lot of rewrites Ive seen where they try, emphasis on try, to give the fact that world ends more emotional relevance, and they basically kinda force this by introducing random background characters who are obviously going to die immediately.
like “oh hi my name is Huma Nfriend I’ve been besties with John Egbert since childhood we’re very close and cool and we’re gonna play a game called Sburb!!!” and then they just
I understand y’all want to make the characters actually feel something in regards to the entire home blowing the fuck up but there’s gotta be better ways than inventing some characters just to fridge.
also John does this.
uh, yeah. I don’t know.
he’s having a moment.
just give him some space.
ok now that’s just rude.
god Rose’s house during the winter is so pretty.
holy shit a Jade and Rose conversation, I hope we get plenty of these! (we do not.)
Jade knows about Sburb??? and it could bring Jaspers back to life???? what could it me- ok this joke already fucking sucks.
ah yeah it’s time to beat the shit out of the local whiteboy.
this shit is so fucking cool oh my god.
also there are literally meteors falling as Dave looks out and I guess he does give a shit.

@panic-and-procrastinate
(Hoping this is actually the same person that I was just reblogging from and kind of talking to), scooby and batman crossover a few times.
It starts with two episodes of "the new scooby doo movies" where they meet batman and Robin. Can't remember which Robin.
Not sure if these are the same episode, it's been a fuck all long time since I've watched either.
THEN we have "scooby doo meets batman" which was released as a home video. Have not seen that yet at all, and it tends to get forgotten.
Can't tell, but I think they meet a Robin in this one too.
Most recent one was "scooby doo and batman: the brave and the bold" which used the batman universe from the brave and bold cartoon. They also met other heroes, but I've only seen it once so I can't remember all of them.
But all of this is just television/movies. We can go deeper and I absolutely plan to.
DC comics has a run of "scooby doo where are you comics"
Both of these covers do not match monsters from the tv show, but they use character models that look similar to the ones from the where are you tv show. I haven't read any, so I can't speak to their quality. But, all DC comics are connected so there's a scooby doo u inverse you should easily reach from comic book batman.
But we aren't done yet! Theres also just a "scooby doo series"
Again, haven't read it. But it'd another DC made comic about scooby do, so another way there from batman.
HOLD UP THOUGH!!! Cause there is also the "scooby doo team up series"
Where scooby teams up with batman at least one more time.
BUT WAIT! THERES MORE!!!! theres also the limited series "the batman and scooby doo mysteries"
So you may not even have to go looking to find the talking dog.
And, if you want a more edgy take on scooby doo (and the only one I've ready a few volumes from) we have "scooby apocalypse"
Which I have fucking enjoyed but ive only read 3 volumes.

ik this is kinda out of nowhere but I was reading through some of your old comics posts after they showed up in the sidebar and I was just wondering, what advice would you give to someone for determining where to start in a certain comic? Because clearly comics fans get annoyed at people asking "where do I start with character x or series y" so I'm not asking something that specific, I hope this doesnt come accross as annoying as those, and reading lists just seen to lead to more reading lists in endless branches so I was just wondering if theres any general purpose advice thats applicable to approaching any character, series ect
reading lists leading to more reading lists in endless branches is certainly a comics mood lmao
Part of the problem is a lot of crossovers between comics and I don't mean EVENTS. (like there are usually 4-5 x-men books going on at once and generally at least two of them aren't bad and they often crossover (lower case) due to involving similar/same characters. And the Batfam books are much the same)
Ideally you'd want to start with a #1 issue somewhere but it also depends on if you're more interested in certain characters or certain teams. Like a 'best of kitty pryde' list wouldn't always match a 'best of x-men' list, though there are of course some crossover. "best of batman" and "best of the justice league" would also be similar.
But i'd suggest trying to find like, a list of issues/storylines for the character that are generally universally loved and read those in release order to start, then you can dig into the more obscure stuff.
Kitty Pryde is a good example, as besides her first issue there are generally a lot of commonly suggested reading points throughout her long history, from 'all of Excalibur' to days of futures past, both of which would also generally be on 'good for x-men reading' lists. (on the more obscure, I'd add Mekanix, the pryde and wisdom series and shadow and flame for Kitty)
Comics are a convoluted mess. Another way to look is to find an…era, I suppose. Like for me there are two points I got back into comics, and that was with astonishing x-men in the 00s and then again in like..2010? Around the time of the second coming arc or just before it.
X-men for example is resetting to a new status quo this year and you could either a) start it now with all the post-utopia stuff, or pick up from the beginning of the utopia arc from a few years ago to give you something to read until more of the new era comes out.
AND it also really depends what kind of storylines you're in the mood for! A comic series will have more serious and less serious arcs, there are the dark arcs with evil x-men and avengers, there's the 'we're back on our superhero stuff' like the Heroic Age marvel did awhile ago as a cleanser for all the dark stuff, etc. like 10 years ago I'd have a better list for x-men at least but I've fallen way behind on a lot of the newer stuff. I still need to find out what domino has been up to since..like 2017 lol
I'm less familiar with DC these days but I think the same principle applies.
TLDR: search up at least 5 different 'best of' lists for the comic/team/character you're interested in and read those in release order. If you like that much you can start asking around for the more obscure recommendations from hard core fans, as well as a 'I liked this storyline what other storylines might I like?' type questions too.

I feel #BLESSED you're into Sonic and Twst. I haven't been into into sonic in such a long time, but I remember watching YouTube videos to read the comics lol. Any sites/starting points you recommend to read modern sonic stuff?
ooohh!! yeah sure!! the current running sonic comic is idw sonic :3 i personally buy each issue and read them on apple books BUUUUUT you can also read it for free here -> X
ALSO! :3 idw has some side stories which come in separate issues, like theres a miniseries that follow Whisper and Tangle, a separate story that follows the villain Doctor Starline during two parts, Bad Guys (which takes place between about issue 25 to about issue 33) as well as Imposter Syndrome which introduces the characters Surge and Kit and fills in story between issues 45 to 50. The mainline comic does a great job of being sure to let you know which issue they are referencing when referring to events from these miniseries (ex. if they mention something that happened in the Bad Guys series, they will say which bad guys issue it was in) You dont necessarily need to read these separate stories, but they do fill in some gaps.
IDW sonic is currently only 63 issues in (+ the annuals and miniseries) imho it doesnt require too much previous sonic lore knowledge, but it is relevant to know that the idw comics are canon to the games, IDW specifically follows the events of Sonic Forces. (but in my eyes its not really in the same universe but thats a debate for another time)
Id say dont give archie/ sonic universe much thought (despite this being what i grew up reading lol!!)
#ask#sonic#idw sonic#DONT ASK ME WHY I THINK IDW ISNT CANON TO THE GAMES ILL TELL YOU#DONT ASK ME WHY I THINK IDW ISNT CANON TO FORCES I WILL TELL YOU!#i dont think you necessarially NEED to know sonic lore to enjoy the comics but it does help#preexisting lore you would need is just game knowledge

happy birthday!!! 🎉🎂 if you could create your own fourth world imprint, what books would you include in it?
THANK YOU!!! and thank u for the question:
id love to say just new gods!!! but well thats such a toss up....
lightray solo. theres an article floating around about DC characters who've never received solos and it remarks that while Lightray is overdue, writing a genuinely nice hero would be too hard for most authors and ive been so mad forever
mister miracle source of freedom... 2!
mini about the brandon easton/fico ossio version of orion :D would want to make way for an original orion solo though by the end. maybe they can meet
mokkari and simian in a similar but darker vibe to BUG! or like a The Brak Show thing. id take the allreds back for that even
anthology style with stories from all 3 mister miracles and support cast. would like to see michael avon oeming do some art here
OBERON PRIDE SPECIAL ONESHOT
forever people always. i didnt read past their first solo so i dont know where i would go with that though!
i think a female furies solo that isnt uh like that could be cool. one based on the original series though. i think knockout could still be involved because she IS a villainous mirror of barda and i think should represent the rewritten personalities given to the furies in later comics
jimmy olsen should team up with don rickles again (i never read this issue actually. sorry) jk though i like Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen as a concept always though. his too-good-for-him love interests should unionize though POWER GIRL x BLUE FORAGER 2k23. joke. maybe
young gods as an anthology maybe? or just anything with a general new gods cast, revision of jovita?, id like to see tradd moore draw a lightray story but not the one i listed below, black racer!, silent comedy with fastbak getting into shenanigans, atinai! seagrin! erm TT can explode but i like jog i would see him again, complete wyldhearts connection to fourth world im sure some other stuff
whatever happened on earth-51?
another anthology -> multiverse/AU... maybe address the "theyre the same in every universe" bc thats obviously not truueeee
ive had an idea for a lightray-centric book for years now of him escaping one of desaad's labs deep underground with a half-dissected father box that he doesnt really trust but is his only ally, while orion searches tirelessly for his lost friend while someone (maybe kaiyo?) plays mind games on him. well i think itd be fun
yay thank u for the ask :D
here is a WIP drawing of fastbak:
[ID: Flat-coloured image of Fastbak from DC Comics, flying on his discs. There is an air trail behind him spinning in a loop. End ID]

The Chronicles of Dynamight
The Chronicles of Dynamight by therapizedbakugou
AVAIL. ON SPOTIFY AS A PODFIC ON “TherapizedBakugou's Podfics” https://open.spotify.com/episode/4HdmXTFAkk1SqNPkUMeteg?si=dnebTdu1RVOZr9nKiGzmqA - Kirishima Eijirou felt like a blip. Something you blink and miss. Something so unimportant you'd never even notice if it just stopped existing from one moment to the next.
And who could blame him? Even in his misery he isn't special. Just another boring adult, stuck in an office job he hates, who reads the same superhero comics he's been reading forever as an escape to forget he has no friends, no life, no future, no family to speak of. Nothing but this fucking comic book series. The Chronicles of Dynamight - Prompts were: Isekai. Never meet your idols. Falling out of love. “It was always you” and I initially said: See now I could hurt everybody's feelings real badly now if I wanted to (but then I reworked it and now it's actually mega fucking hopeful and warm even with the angst bits. Please trust me.)

Okay for the hero/villain world you're fleshing out, how do heroes and villains obtain their power? Are they born with them like mha? Is it more similar to marvel/DC where they've received powers due to sciency or supernatural phenomena? And how does society deal with superpowers if they are a more universal thing like mha?
I'm playing a bit hard and fast with that honestly, generally people either are born with them but the classic gahh I fell into goop and now I'm an evil sludge man!!!! is just to fun to completely leave out >:3
The three main sources I'm pulling from, from a lore perspective are mha (I'll never get over how many really cool concepts were in that show that they just..... didn't feel like digging into rip) classic hero comics, and epithet erased which is an indie series I highly recommend people check out, you can watch the first bit free on youtube but theres also a paid audio book! Its genuinely the closest I've come to a super powered focused media that I actually like the worldbuilding of!
about 30% of the general pop is born with some sort of power and they usually get a decent control over their powers in early childhood, control here meaning like- won't accidentally kill their parent with laser eyes or whatever not full on complete mastery. Having powers always gives a super a visual non natural human trait but its not standardized to powers- one speedster might have little head wings while another has glowy lightning bolt patterns. these are present from birth. The world is defiantly biased towards supers. Super kids are put into special clubs and sometimes even schools if they show promise or have a particularly useful power. This special treatment often gets into their heads, and these special schools/clubs are painted as a chance to practice their powers in a safe environment and be around other kids with similar growing pains but they're almost exclusively hero recruitment fronts. There is also a huge biased towards supers in the work force- sure a dude with super strength would be an easy fit at any construction job, but it also gets you points at an office job because it's seen as cool or good or a mark of character (for literally no reason).
That isn't too say all powers are looked up too. Your power reflects back onto how people see you, so folks with 'evil' or lame powers are stereotypes as evil or loser. someone with mind control powers will likely opt to hide those powers or be branded an abusive freak regardless of if they've actually done anything wrong with their powers.
There are aptitue tests people can take to get their powers ranked on scales like raw strength, these are public for heroes and getting a bad result or being outed for using power enhancing drugs can ruin careers. I also imagine there's something like olympics for supers or power specific sports.
People are arguing that every super should have their powers publically logged to prevent villains and vigilantes, but that movement hasn't gained much traction yet.
