TSC has been in my greedy hands for almost 48 hours now, and I managed to read it two and a half times already.
So many things to say about it, so little words I have to be able to do that. So, first of all
1) "Neil is such an unreliable narrator" not true, but can we talk about how Jean is just as much as "unreliable", but in a very different way? In the first three books we had a boy who cared so little about anything that wasn't exy (or Andrew) that he just didn't know/notice/cared enough to even acknowledge important things. In TSC we have a boy who knows SO LITTLE about anything in the World after being isolated for such a long time, that he sees everything through a distorted lens, and even when facts are right in front of him he just doesn't get it. They are not unreliable, they were forcefully taught to focus on things different than the whole picture.
2) Jean to me is so much a mixture of kevandreil it hurts me. He went through so much and yet gained so little it hurts. He has the same desperate will to live as Neil, the same "do what you want to me but keep X out of this" as Andrew (+ a lot of traumas), he has so many mental issues only Kevin can understand and a similar attitude. This not to say he's not "original", he's a very different person from the original trio, but he just... Has all of it. He combines other's main visible issues in one single person and it just hurts to see how much he's hurting but still wants and needs to carry on.
3) Neil X Jean scene at the end hits too hard on my heart. I do not presume to know exactly what my Goddess Nora was attempting to do with that, but my mind has found multiple possibilities on why Neil did what he did, and after all the times I read AFTG (which now amount to at least 35 rereads in a span of 3 years) only one has managed to grab my heart and never leave it. So, the main ones:
- As Jean thinks, Neil took care of Grayson because he is valuable in Ichirou's eyes, so Neil felt the need to protect Jean.
- Neil is aware of what Jean went through and is human enough to care for him, now that he knows he's not just a dick, and is willing to make sure Jean feels safe.
- Neil, being the person he is and having seen what Drake did to Andrew's mind, is not going to let Grayson do the same to anyone, especially someone he knows. As someone said here on Tumblr, "Neil is not gonna let a rapist alive if he can".
As I've come to understand the characters, for the first one, not even Neil is that cold that would just care about a person if they are valuable enough to him. In the second hypothesis, Neil is not the type of guy to just care that much about someone outside the foxes lot, but it's still a realistic idea, considering what Jean did for him in TRK. Third scenario, the most realistic and authentic one to me, he's not willing to let anyone get away with forcing themselves on another, even less if it's someone he knows and can do something about it. Which is also the reason why I'm obsessed with this scene and I would pay gold to see it in Neil's pov even when I know it's not possible.
4) Last point for this useless rant, CAN WE TALK ABOUT WYMACK? I swear to god that man is my absolute nightmare (in a good way), I just can't get over how much of a saint he is with those idiotic children he cares for + Jean. I just love him so much. He is rude and raw and can't be truly nice to save his life, but he cares, he cares about them with all his soul and he's not going to leave them alone when they need a helping hand the most.
I kind of wish coach Rhemann was like him, but at the same time I don't because a) if he was he would probably be at PSU, and b) I want him to be a completely different kind of dad to his boys and girls. (but I'm still going to cry on all of his scenes because that man is just too much for me (and for Jean), understanding but not pushing, being respectful of boundaries and "This was the belligerent stare of a man who’d haul Lucas out of there by force if Jean indicated he didn’t want to be alone with him.". )
So, yeah. I'm probably going to read it a third time tonight.

Love Like Ghosts (Chapter 7) - a Shigaraki x f!Reader fic
You knew the empty house in a quiet neighborhood was too good to be true, but you were so desperate to get out of your tiny apartment that you didn't care, and now you find yourself sharing space with something inhuman and immensely powerful. As you struggle to coexist with a ghost whose intentions you're unsure of, you find yourself drawn unwillingly into the upside world of spirits and conjurers, and becoming part of a neighborhood whose existence depends on your house staying exactly as it is, forever. But ghosts can change, just like people can. And as your feelings and your ghost's become more complex and intertwined, everything else begins to crumble. (cross-posted to Ao3)

Chapter 7
There’s something wrong with your house, but you knew that when you bought it. As you drive down your street on the way back from work, there’s more wrong with it than usual. You’re not the only one who sees it. Keigo leaves off bitching about the fact that you used his credit card to buy everybody’s lunch and sits bolt upright in his seat. “Shit,” he says. “What is he doing out?”
You could ask the same question. You probably should. There’s a man standing just in front of your fence, barely leaning over it, and something is quite obviously wrong with him. You’d know it was Dabi even without Keigo’s reaction – half of Dabi is alive and human, and the other half of him is made of swirling smoke, filling gaps in his torso, on his right arm, on the lower half of his face. It’s horrifying to look at, but you’re equally horrified by what’s happening on the other side of the fence. Tomura’s there, fully materialized and clearly pissed off. You’ve never seen him go that far out into the yard before.
“Park here,” Keigo says, even though you’re only a few feet from the driveway. He’s out of the car before you’ve stopped rolling, and you barely manage to turn the keys before scrambling out after him.
You’re both in a hurry, but you’re both too slow. You hear Dabi say something indistinct, hear him laugh – and then he yelps. “Hey, what the shit? Let go of me!”
He’s leaned too far over the fence, and Tomura’s grabbed him by the front of his shirt. “Oh, fuck,” Keigo says. He bolts, and so do you – you grabbing Tomura’s hands and trying to peel them off, and Keigo seizing Dabi around his semi-immaterial waist and hauling him backwards. “Come on, let him go! What are you even going to do with him if you drag him in there?”
“Whatever I want,” Tomura hisses. “He came to my house. He asked for it.”
“What did he do?”
Tomura’s face flushes instantly. Dabi cackles, which is a mistake, because Tomura renews his grip on Dabi’s shirt and drags him forward again. Keigo’s not going to be able to convince Tomura to let go. There’s only one person in the neighborhood who regularly succeeds in convincing Tomura of anything. “Hey,” you say, and he looks at you. “Is this going to take long? I’m tired and we need to talk.”
Tomura lets go of Dabi, and Dabi and Keigo tumble back into the street, Keigo on the bottom. He swears, and so does Dabi, and two seconds later they’re in the middle of what Hizashi would call a domestic. “What the hell are you doing out here?” Keigo demands. “Somebody could see you!”
“So what? I don’t care. I look good.”
“You came out here to pick a fight, didn’t you?” Keigo looks honestly pissed. You’ve lived here for a year, and you haven’t seen him get mad like this before. “You’re crazy. That guy could kill you. He could turn you to dust in two seconds flat and you came out here like an idiot to poke him through the fence with a stick!”
You’re pretty sure Keigo’s using a metaphor. Tomura doesn’t know how metaphors work. “He didn’t poke me with a stick,” he says. “He came over here and he wouldn’t shut up –”
“I was helping! He’s out here trying to get laid and he can’t even figure out where to put his –”
Suddenly you understand why Tomura looks so pissed and uncomfortable. Keigo gets it, too. “You’re out of your mind,” he explodes. He struggles out from underneath Dabi, grabs him by the shoulders, and shoves him down hard in the street. “I could tell them all kinds of stories about things you couldn’t figure out! Do you want me to go there? Really?”
“Go for it. Maybe he’d learn something!”
Three posts in your fence shatter, blasting outwards. You’re pretty sure Tomura can’t leave the property without demolishing the entire house, but Phantom’s in the yard, too, so you move to block the hole. “That’s enough,” you snap. “Dabi, it’s great to finally meet you. Stay the fuck away from my house.”
“You should be thanking me,” Dabi says. His mouth tilts in a leer that looks twenty kinds of wrong. “Seriously. I mean it. At least now you know for sure that he knows what his –”
Another few panels in your fence blow out. You can’t block both breaches at once, and as you’re trying to figure out what to do, the loudest voice you’ve ever heard blasts down the street. Keigo and Dabi quit fighting and clamp their hands over their ears, and the sound is loud enough to temporarily dematerialize Tomura. You cower, barely able to filter the words through the noise. “Just what do you clowns think you’re doing?”
It’s Hizashi. He’s loping down the street towards the four of you, smiling in a way that makes you want to run for your life. “This is cute,” he remarks. “Or it would be if you were a bunch of five-year-olds throwing a collective temper tantrum. As it is, it’s just sad.”
You’re still pretty much scared shitless, but you don’t like being talked down to. “Do you think anybody’s having fun over here?”
“You clearly aren’t. I feel a little bad for you,” Hizashi says. “Unfortunately, since this circus act contains your monkey, you’re involved, too. Want to tell me what you all are fighting about?”
No one says anything. Dabi’s dropped the I-was-helping act. He looks legitimately wary of Hizashi. “Here’s what I think happened,” Hizashi says. He takes a few steps closer, right into the middle of the mess on the sidewalk. “I think Dabi got jealous that somebody else is happy and came over here to start trouble. Then I think Tomura displayed his standard piss-poor self-control and rose to whatever pathetic bait Dabi offered, at which point you two got home –”
He points at you and Keigo. “And got right in the middle of it. Did I get all that right?”
“Not jealous.”
“You think we can’t all feel it?” Hizashi laughs. “The only people who can keep secrets on this street are the humans. I know the two of you aren’t too stupid to know that.”
“Call me stupid one more time and I’ll end you,” Tomura snarls. “I didn’t start this!”
“Do you think I give a shit who started it?” Hizashi’s voice rattles your bones. “I care about the exposure, and so should the two of you! You aren’t the ones who will suffer if we’re found.”
“Nobody’s going to find us.” Tomura dematerializes slightly, and for the first time, you feel his influence extend, dark and purposeful, spreading over the neighborhood and out into the wetlands that surround it. “Nobody can see past me.”
“No, but anybody driving by can see the scar wraith prancing around in the street.” Aizawa’s here now, too. When you look up the street to the purple house, you can see the front door hanging open, Shinsou and Eri peering out. “Did you find it?”
For a second you’re not sure who he’s talking to. Then you realize he’s looking directly at you, and that he and Hizashi are both standing between you and your car. If you can’t get the documents before they can, they’re not going to tell you and Keigo anything. You look at Keigo, panicked, and Keigo starts running interference. “Did you know her boss is a ghost? Big-time one.”
“I knew that,” Tomura snaps. “He snuck into my house.”
“You let a ghost in your house?”
“He’s so human he barely counts,” Tomura says dismissively. You and Tomura are going to have a talk later about the fact that he knew Mr. Yagi was a ghost and didn’t say anything, but right now, you’ve got a job to do. You inch carefully towards your car. “The weakest ghost I’ve ever seen. Even weaker than your kid.”
You add another item to the list of things you have to apologize to Aizawa for. “I’m less concerned with Eri’s strength as a ghost than with her happiness as a person,” Aizawa says coldly. You duck around him and pry open the trunk of your car. “I don’t expect you to understand something like that. I – what are you doing?”
You’ve just lifted the carton full of documents out of your car. “Book it,” Keigo shouts.
You duck around Aizawa again and lurch through one of the two holes in your fence, not stopping until you’re well into the yard. Hizashi tries to follow you, but Tomura’s influence blocks his way. You see him think about testing it, but then he takes a careful step back, baring his teeth in a feral grin. The grin is aimed at you. “You’re going to bring those out here,” he says. “You won’t understand them.”
“I understand enough,” you say. “You’ll get them when you tell us the rest.”
“You don’t get to keep us in the dark,” Keigo says. He’s finally picked himself up off the street. “You two aren’t the only ones who stand to lose something here. We’ll trade you. Everything we know for everything you do.”
“And where is this exchange supposed to take place?” Aizawa asks. He looks pointedly from one side of the street to the other. “Neither of your houses are particularly friendly territory.”
“My human’s not going to your house.” Tomura’s voice rasps painfully through the air. “Outside, where I can see. Here.”
“In the street,” Hizashi says skeptically.
“That’s what I said.”
“My human’s not going to your house, either,” Dabi says. He gestures with one half-materialized hand at your end of the street. “Here.”
“Fabulous! You two dimwits can actually agree on something!” Hizashi’s laughter is harsh. “Tonight, then. Neutral territory. In fact, invite everybody. We’ll call it a block party.”
He’s being sarcastic, but you decide to run with it. “Good idea. We’ll need to tell everybody anyway.”
You text the ghost friends chat standing on the porch, the box of documents sitting safely behind you. Phantom is investigating the holes in the fence, and Tomura keeps shooing her back into the yard. “Come on. Don’t make me hold you upside down. You know you don’t like that.” Phantom tries to nose around Tomura again, completely fails, and whines. “See? You’re not getting out. Go back.”
Phantom trudges back towards you, dejected. “You’d better apologize to your human,” Hizashi says to Tomura. “That fence won’t fix cheap.”
Tomura ignores him. You set the start time of the block party at 8pm – two hours from now. “Between now and then, everyone needs to calm down,” you say. “I don’t know everything, but I know enough to know it’s important. Let’s not mess around with it.”
“You’re the one suppressing the evidence, sweetheart.”
“Zashi,” Aizawa says, or warns. “I agree. We miscalculated initially. This concerns the neighborhood. The neighborhood should work together to address it.”
“Yep.” Keigo brushes dust off himself. Dabi extends one hand to help and Keigo swats it away. “See you at eight.”
“Eight,” you agree. You pick up the documents and bring them inside.
Once the street clears, you park your car in the driveway, retrieve your backpack, and spend a few minutes inspecting the damage to the fence. Unfortunately, Hizashi’s right. It’s not going to be a cheap fix, and until you can fix it, you can’t let Phantom into the front yard. It’s not the end of the world compared to everything else that’s just happened. You’re still not happy about it.
And you’re not the only one in the house who’s unhappy. Tomura’s unhappy, too. You’re not sensitive to his moods the way the ghosts are, but you’ve been living alongside him for the past year, and you’ve never picked up this feeling from him before. It’s something you want to deal with, but you’re not going to deal with it on the run. You change out of your work clothes, spend some time cuddling with Phantom on the floor, then sit down on the couch. “Tomura,” you say, “talk to me.”
“Was it because you’re scared?”
You blink. “What?”
“The guy from across the street.” Tomura’s materialized, sort of. He’s sitting in the corner of the room, one leg kicked out, elbow propped on his bent knee, chin propped on his hand. He’s not looking at you. “He says you did it because you were scared.”
Next time Dabi pokes his head out of Keigo’s house, you’re spraying him with the hose. “He thinks I made out with you in the kitchen because I was scared of you?”
“No. Because you were scared of what I’d do if you didn’t.”
Tomura’s never liked the idea that you’re scared of him, probably because there’s nothing he can do about it, and if he scares you too much, you’ll leave. You thought Dabi was just making fun of Tomura for his inexperience. You didn’t realize Dabi had gone for the throat, and your own throat tightens with nerves. You’re going to have to say this now, and you weren’t planning to say it ever. Maybe you should have been. “I’m not scared of you.”
“Liar.”
“I’m not scared of you,” you say again. Tomura rockets to his feet, visibly angry, but you don’t flinch. You don’t flinch when the lights flicker, when the couch lurches suddenly backwards across the floor. “I’m not scared of you, Tomura.”
“You were before! You said I couldn’t make you stop.”
“I was before,” you admit. “And you didn’t make me stop. I stopped on my own. If I was scared of you, I wouldn’t have kissed you.”
You don’t know where he is, but you know he’s in the room – and a moment later he’s in your lap, fully materialized. You were sitting cross-legged, and it must have looked like an invitation to him, because he settles in facing you with his legs hooked over your hips, his eyes intent on your face. “Prove it,” he says, almost desperately, and you kiss him first this time.
You hold his face in your hands, just like you did yesterday, and kiss him slowly, deeply. Slow is good. Deep is good. Neither of those things say that you’re rushing to get it over with, that you’re avoiding getting too involved. You’re not scared of kissing him. You weren’t scared when he blew the fence apart. When he was furious, when he was doing his level best to drag Dabi into the yard and kill him, you weren’t scared of him then, either. You tried to stop him. You didn’t feel even a flicker of fear that he might turn his anger on you.
Lots of things still scare you about the world of ghosts and conjurers. One of those things lives at the top of the street and is probably out for your blood. But you’re not scared of Tomura. Not anymore.
When you draw back, Tomura’s staring at you wide-eyed. His face is flushed again, a totally different flush than the angry one he wore at the fence, and he’s breathing hard. You can’t get over the breathing thing. “Why do you breathe when you don’t need to?”
“When I’m embodied. My body needs things. Like – that.” Tomura makes an awkward gesture, and you resign yourself to going over basic sex vocabulary with him in the near future. “And breathing. You’re not scared of me?”
“I’m not scared of you,” you say. “But I’m mad at you for blowing up my fence.”
“It’s my fence. I can blow it up if I want to.” Tomura sounds like an asshole, like he always does, but the look on his face is the total opposite. You’ve never seen him look like that. “If you’re not scared of me, what are you?”
You don’t really know. You know what you almost said to him when you were hanging up the phone, but that wasn’t right. It couldn’t have been right. “If I want to kiss you again, does it really matter?”
“No,” Tomura decides. He kisses you again. He’s a lot better at it already. Then again, you’ve given him a few chances to practice.
Even if he’s getting better at kissing, Tomura’s still hypersensitive, and it’s not long before he’s squirming in your lap. Last time you were fine with him grinding against you, but this time, you have something else in mind. “I want to help you,” you say. You shove at him until he tips out of your lap, then slide to the floor – at which point Phantom charges you, ready to play. You detour for a second to trap her in the office with a bone to chew on, then come back. Tomura is still sitting there, staring at you. “Is that okay?”
“Help me?” Tomura’s tongue darts out to moisten his lips. “How?”
You sink to the floor in front of him, nudge his legs apart. “I’m going to use my mouth.”
You wait to see if Tomura will protest. He doesn’t. When you reach up to unbutton his pants, he helps you, his cold hands scrabbling unsteadily at yours until his hard cock springs free. Looking at it, you have to wonder how much control ghosts have over what their bodies look like when they materialize. He’s – sizable. You’re not sure your mouth is up to the task.
Only one way to find out. You lean in for a few delicate licks, and almost instantly you have to bring your weight to bear against Tomura’s thighs to keep him from bucking upwards and giving you a nosebleed. He whines in protest, but you ignore it in favor of giving him something else to think about. You’re a bit out of practice with blowjobs, and this is Tomura’s first, ever. There’s nothing wrong with easing into it a bit, and ease into it you do, pressing messy, openmouthed kisses to the tip of his cock until he’s whimpering for more.
“Please,” he says. You don’t know how you wound up with such a needy ghost, but it’s hot – so much hotter than the men you’ve been with before, who kept it to a few brief grunts and hard, unasked-for pressure on the back of your head. “I need it. I need more. You – ah –”
You take him into your mouth slowly, trying not to gag. There’s no way you can take it all, so you supplement with your hand, trying to replicate the same pressure and warmth. You’ve still got Tomura’s thighs pinned, and you feel his muscles trembling, trying to hold himself still, trying to hold himself together. You glance sideways and see his fingernails digging furrows into the couch cushions. The thought occurs to you that you should take his hand, hold it, but that’s weird. You’re not that weird. You might be giving a blowjob to the ghost that lives in your house, but you’re definitely not that weird.
Another thought occurs to you, and you draw back, trying to ignore the agonized gasp that escapes Tomura’s mouth. “The others. Do they know how you’re feeling right now?”
“Trying to hide it.” Tomura speaks through gritted teeth. “I can from the younger ones. Not the adults. I can’t. Not all the way –”
“Don’t try,” you say. Tomura’s eyes widen. His pupils are so dilated that you can barely see his red irises. “Let them know. I’m not scared of you. This is how not-scared I am.”
By “them”, you mean Dabi, and Tomura knows it. A lopsided grin crosses his face. You hold his gaze and lower your mouth to his cock again, watching as the smile slips from his face, seeing how fast the desperation settles back in. This is the first time you’ve had anything approaching a decent view of him as he goes to pieces, and it’s incredible. Your own heart is racing, and the sheen of sweat beginning to coat your skin has nothing to do with the effort you’re expending to hold him down. Part of you is wondering when you got so submissive. But as Tomura moans and writhes beneath your mouth, you realize that it’s not submission – it’s power. You’re capable of doing this to him. All of this – the sounds, the shaking, the impotent jerks of his hips – is because of you, and it’s making you absurdly wet.
Most guys know to warn the person blowing them that they’re about to come, but you figure you can’t count on that for Tomura, and you’re right. He holds out longer than you’re expecting him to, probably in an effort to keep sticking it to Dabi as long as possible, but his resolve snaps with next to no warning. You try to take him as far down your throat as you can, to limit your initial exposure to ghost cum, and it sort of works. There’s texture to it, but no taste, just like there’s no taste when you kiss him.
You draw back, rubbing the corner of your jaw to work out the ache, and look him over. He’s sprawled out on the couch, shirt hiked up, pants undone, and fading rapidly. Part of you feels weird letting him dematerialize looking like such a mess, and even though the rest of you is way too proud of the mess you made of him, you duck back into button his pants again, straighten out his shirt. Then, as you’re pulling away, he grabs you, pulling you down into a kiss – which he vanishes in the middle of, leaving you to narrowly avoid a faceplant into the couch cushions. You collapse onto the couch sideways instead. “Asshole.”
Tomura laughs, low and raspy and breathless. “Stay down,” he says. “I’m not done with you.”
A jolt goes down your spine. “What –”
A pair of hands shove you over onto your back. Tomura’s not anywhere close to completely materialized, but you can feel the shadow of his weight on top of you, settling between your legs, forcing them apart. “I already told you,” he says. His hands materialize, pulling at the waistband of your pants. “I want this. You want it, too. That’s why you look like that.”
You think of the heat in your face, the racing of your heart. Your days of hiding behind a fever are over. “Wait,” you gasp, as Tomura yanks at your underwear. “Let me do it. You can watch. I’ll show you –”
“I don’t need to watch.” Tomura materializes just enough for you to see a smirk on his face. “I’ve been watching. I just didn’t know what it was for.”
For a moment you’re confused. Then you remember that you got off by yourself in your house plenty of times before you realized there was a ghost in it. Tomura seizes the opportunity left by your temporary confusion. His hand, ice-cold, slides down into the heat between your legs. You startle and so does he. “It’s wet.”
“Yeah.” Your face is miserably flushed. “That’s a good thing.”
His smirk shifts into a smile, but it turns feral at the same time, so it’s not much of a relief. His fingers dive back between your legs and you brace yourself. Most men don’t know how to finger properly. Porn doesn’t usually teach it well. Tomura is new at this. It’ll either be bad and you’ll have to fake, or mediocre and it’ll take forever. There’s no way –
But Tomura hasn’t been watching porn. He’s been watching you, and that means he knows everything – how you like to tease yourself, how long it takes you to wind yourself up, what you do when you’re done playing around. But you don’t need winding up after everything that’s already happened, and the novelty of someone else touching you makes everything more intense. Even the coldness of Tomura’s fingers sends an extra jolt of pleasure through your body. They’re the perfect length, just like you thought they’d be. The right angle and the right pressure and a flush of heat tears through your entire body.
Tomura’s watching you closely. Different parts of him keep materializing and fading, and you know he’s drained too much of the available life-force to hold his physical form together. But you can see his face. He looks proud of himself, almost gleeful, the expression growing clearer every time you gasp or moan or grab a fistful of the couch cushions to ground yourself. “Don’t look so smug,” you manage.
“Why not?” Tomura vanishes from view, but his hands are still moving between your legs – and a moment later, his voice rasps against your ear. “That’s what you do when you touch me.”
Is it? You find it in yourself to be embarrassed at the thought, only for it to be wiped away as Tomura pairs a crook of his fingers with a well-timed stroke of your clit. You squirm and cry out, and Tomura, asshole that he is, does it again. And again. You don’t have to see his face to know he’s grinning openly, way too pleased with himself. “Next time –”
“Don’t talk about next time,” you hiss. “There’s not going to be a next time unless you quit messing around and make me come.”
Tomura doesn’t materialize, but you can tell he’s alarmed at the prospect. He starts to finger you in earnest, fingers curling at the end of each push, his other hand brushing your clit. You feel the bottom drop out of your stomach, feel your entire body begin to tense, and grasp desperately for a way to hide your face. If your partner was human, physically present, you’d bury yourself in their shoulder. As it is, you find yourself hiding behind a throw pillow as Tomura makes you come for the first time.
His hands slip away, and you let your shaking legs fall closed. Tomura pries at the pillow over your face. “I want to see,” he complains. “Let me see.”
“Shouldn’t you be dematerialized by now?” You can’t stay with a pillow over your face forever. You know that. But just a few more minutes. Just until you don’t look like what just happened actually happened. “Let it go.”
“Why can’t I see?”
“If you see, everybody sees. Humans are the only ones who can keep secrets around here.”
“We can feel how each other feels. We can’t see what each other sees,” Tomura says, like what you just said is the dumbest thing he’s ever heard. “If I had to see whatever the bastard across the street is seeing, I’d go blind.”
He stops yanking at the pillow for a moment. His voices goes quieter. “Besides, even if they could see, I wouldn’t let them. This is mine. Nobody gets to see this but me. Let me see it.”
You lift the pillow away from your face at last and find Tomura looking intently at you. He’s visible but insubstantial, almost transparent, but his eyes are fixed on your face. You’d call that stare blank if you weren’t familiar with Tomura’s expressions by now. You know this one. He’s calm. He only looks like this when he’s looking at something he likes, and it makes you edgy. “Well?”
“I’m not sharing,” Tomura says. “You can’t leave until it wears off.”
“You really think I’d go out looking like this? No way.” You sit up, realizing that you’re a little lightheaded. You can’t tell if that’s the ghost sex or if it’s just been so long since you had regular human sex that you’ve forgotten how it goes. “Besides, I have a lot to do. These documents aren’t going to sort themselves.”
You wash your hands, wash your face, rinse your mouth to get rid of the last of the cum texture, then let Phantom out of the office. She’s done with her bone and mad at you, so you take her out to the backyard to play, noting as you do that while nothing in the yard is dead, there’s a whole swathe of plants missing from the wetlands. You thought Tomura could only drain things that were actually in the yard, but maybe you were wrong about that. Either way, he at least left your garden alone. Looking at the dead zone in the wetlands just confirms a conclusion you’ve been kicking around: The two of you are going to need to put a lid on the sex thing. There aren’t enough bugs in the neighborhood to let this happen regularly.
When you come back in, the documents are all over the kitchen table. Tomura is going through them, and you cringe when you remember what else his hands were doing. “Please tell me you washed your hands.”
Tomura ignores you. “I saw it,” he says. “It was here. It was just here –”
“What was?” You shoo him away from the table and start organizing the documents yourself. “Did you see something?”
“My name.” The cold deepens, quickly enough that you get a chill. “The old one.”
You stop sorting the documents and look at him – what little of him you can see. “You have more than one name?”
“I did. I thought I did.” His hands are all that’s visible, but you can see he’s scratching his neck. “I don’t know. My head hurts –”
You’ve never heard him say that before. It makes you worried, and all of the things you could do to help a human with a headache are things you can’t do for Tomura. “Don’t look at it anymore,” you say. “Go hang out with Phantom. She’ll help. She always helps me.”
The cold drapes itself over you, then slips around you, heading for the living room where Phantom is napping. You return your attention to the documents you brought home, splitting them up into multiple piles. You ended up printing off everything the database had on Chisaki and Akaguro as well as the other three. Hopefully, handing the Chisaki file off to Aizawa and Hizashi will rebuild the bridge you torched this afternoon.
Thinking about the whole scene on the sidewalk leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Sure, it’s Dabi’s fault for antagonizing Tomura on purpose, but Tomura didn’t exactly de-escalate the situation, and the fight Dabi and Keigo got in was painful to watch – and probably worse to be part of. And when Hizashi showed up, it was like he was trying to ratchet up the tension even higher. Tomura’s decently antisocial and you’re pretty sure Dabi is a sociopath, but Hizashi can function in society, maintain a relationship, and be a parent. He should have known better than to do what he did. Why didn’t he?
Because he’s scared. The answer clicks into place in your head, and it all starts to make sense. This conjurer thing, whatever it is, has a former ghost who still has some of his powers so spooked that he forgot how to do social skills and started throwing his weight around with the two most volatile people in the neighborhood. You withholding the documents even temporarily probably just iced the cake.
You might not have started the fight, but you didn’t handle it particularly well. You gather the information on Chisaki (deceased) and set it aside for a peace offering. Then you start in with the Garaki and Shigaraki files. Garaki and Shigaraki. They sound like a comedy duo.
The block party kicks off at 8pm sharp, and based on what you can hear from inside the house, everybody’s there. You can smell food cooking – somebody brought a grill, and food to put on it – and the sound of kids laughing, the raucous cackles of Jin’s younger siblings and Eri’s soft, squeaky giggles. This was your idea. You need to get out there. You stack the documents in the box again, in order, and speak up to the house at large. “I’m heading out. I’ll tell you everything when I get back.”
“I can hear it. And I don’t care.” Tomura’s voice is flat. “The rest of them don’t matter. You and the dog. That’s what I care about.”
“Phantom loves the neighborhood,” you counter. “And I like it, too. It would be sad here if everyone was gone.”
Tomura makes an irritated sound. “Go, then. I don’t care.”
You put Phantom on her leash and make your way to the front door, pulling it open. “I’ll be back soon,” you say to Tomura. And then, because you’re stupid: “I wish you could come with me.”
“Don’t be stupid,” Tomura says, just like you expected him to. You start down the front steps, Phantom trotting at your side.
He doesn’t speak until you’re at the gate, and when he does, it’s so quiet you can barely hear him. What he says chills your blood, makes you afraid again – not of him, but because of him, because of what it could mean. “Me, too.”

A Perfectly Normal Schoolgirl, part 4
Read Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 too! (Look at me posting while hopped up on 15 different meds)
“I'm a fool for doing this, aren't I?” Dane didn't look up from where he sat, cross legged on the ground. His shirt was opened to reveal the runes I'd scrawled on his chest and throat.
I drew the circle around him wordlessly. Nothing I said would help him now. The candles were lit, casting the otherwise dark room in flickering shadow and light, darkness dancing just outside our pentacle. The ointment was smeared across his face, glistening like his soul leaked through his pores. The stage was set, and it was time for him to dance.
Stepping back from my handiwork, I glanced at the clock. Right on cue, it struck twelve. “Was something supposed to happen?” Dane tried to crane his neck to look at the clock.
Worried as I was, it brought a smile to my face. I snapped my fingers and watched as his joints locked up, body going ramrod straight. This was something I'd seen dozens of times before. Sometimes they made it out alive. Sometimes they didn't. Either way, it was up to him now. Some battles could only be fought by a single person. I settled in an armchair and pulled a book out from his bookshelf.
It wasn't long before someone showed up. A man, resplendent in a golden top hat and cloak. He knocked the door seven times. I ignored him every time. “Katherine,” he said, voice clear as bells, “I know you're in there.”
Of course he showed up now, at the worst possible time. With a sigh, I hauled myself up from my armchair. “L,” I hissed. “You're not welcome in.”
L laughed. “Goodness, Kat. You'd think I was trying to st-” I pressed my finger to his lips, reaching past the boundary of the door as I did so.
“There's a security camera nearby,” I warned him. “Be wary.”
“A camera! And you still went through with that thing? Are you trying to get yourself caught again?” L folded his arms against his chest. “Fine. Won't you at least invite me inside, so I don't have to discuss matters with you next to a deathtrap?”
“It's not my home to invite you into. And its owners are currently indisposed.”
L peered into the house. “A boy,” he remarked. “You have gone soft, haven't you? Since when did you do that for mere mo- children?”
I shrugged. “I owe him one. Why are you here?”
“Come on, Kat! You know damn well why. You've been hiding out in the middle of nowhere, pretending to be some dingy little student, and letting yourself get pushed around by lesser beings. The others are mad at you, but they're not that mad. They'll forgive you if you come back.”
He just didn't get it, I thought grimly. Then again, none of them ever did. “L, do you know why I chose to stay here?”
“Will you stop deflecting? I'm telling you: Come back!”
Ignoring him, I continued, “It's warm here. The humans are nice. They have these things called gelatos, and it tastes like nothing else I've known.”
There was a dangerous look in L's eyes. I had grown familiar with it, being the sort of person who tended to inspire mind-numbing rage in others. “Seriously, Kat! Stop it. My place is warm enough for you, and humans are nice wherever you go, and we can bloody well get gelatos at home!” He tried to grab my wrist, but I pulled it back through the doorway, into the boundaries of Dane's home.
“The best thing about this place, though? The cameras. It's a surveillance state. Nobody tries anything here. Nobody dares to. Not even you.” I moved to close the door in his face, then paused. “Go home, L. I won't.”
There was heartbreak mixed in with the anger on his face. I didn't want to look at it anymore, so I shut the door. But L had to have the last word, as he always did.
“He'll die, you know. They all do.”
Then I was alone with Dane. He twitched, raw terror etched onto his features. The poor boy was walking through a living nightmare, and I could not help him. If he died… I did not want to think of that. I had watched more than my fair share of dying children, and it would attract Death. I had no wish to meet him ever again, kind though he was.
The book held no respite for me, and pacing the room did me not good. I settled just outside his circle and stared into his unseeing eyes. He moved again, desperately trying to break free. There were tears streaming down his cheeks.
Was it worth it? I had known those who said yes. The ones who didn't make it out had no chance to disagree. His suffering would make him stronger, the theory went. The rules said merely not to break the circle while he tried to break free. The faith he'd held in me, that I would protect him, compelled me to disobey.
Flopping onto the floor, I let out another heavy sigh. What the hell… I'd broken enough rules already. What was one more?
With one finger, I smudged the circle, and Dane came free with a shriek. Before he could fall over and break the circle entirely, I caught the air around him, twisted it, and pulled it back. He toppled over in his panic, and landed squarely beside me. “What the hell?!”
I smiled at him and pulled him into a hug. “You looked like you were in pain,” I admitted. “So I broke you out.”
“But what about the boon? I need it… Don't I?” Dane frowned down at me. “How else will I be strong enough?”
Silly boy. Silly me, too, to risk so much for him. “You did receive the boon,” I told him, beaming. “I caught it before it could leave.” Presenting the glittering air trapped between my fingers, I revelled in his surprise.
“I thought you said the rules forbade outside help?” Dane took the air from me nonetheless, cupping it to his chest. He sat up, and I followed, the two of us facing each other.
“I break rules for fun, kiddo,” I said with levity I did not feel. “Don't worry about me. Besides, I promised to help you out, didn't I? Can't have you dying on me before I grant your wish.” Man, was I dancing on the line today. One wrong move and we were all doomed. It gave me a thrill like no other.
“You're right,” Dane said. “So what's our next move?”
I laughed. “We strike first, and hard,” I told him. “Mrs C and her little friends won't know what hit them!” And more to the point— Neither would the cameras.
Dane nodded. “So we meet at school early? Say, 6am?”
I considered it. “That would work, yes. But I've got a favour to ask of you.”
“Ask away! You know I'd do anything for you, Kat,” he told me, the earnestness on his face palpable. I wanted to pick him up and stuff him somewhere safe and far away.
“Can I stay here tonight?” The odds of running into L again were low, but I did not trust him not to try to spirit me away. Safest to be within a home tonight.
“Of course! You can use my room,” he assured me. “I'll take the couch.”
“Isn't there a spare bedroom?’ I could've sworn I'd seen one.
Dane froze, a pained look creeping onto his features. “That's my parents' room,” he whispered. “I can't…”
He couldn't bring himself to use it. “I understand,” I told him, and pulled him to his feet. “Take your own bedroom, I don't really need somewhere to sleep.”
Dane gave me a grateful look. “Kat, do you really think we can… You know, save my parents?”
I ran my fingers through his hair, and hugged him. “I promised you, didn't I? And I always keep my promises.”

A Spirit That Never Fades | pt. 1
The plot: is missing but all you need to know is that you were once a skyperson named Anilri that was somehow reborn as a Metkayina. Eywa loves you too much.
You can find this story on ao3
Warning: Mentions of blood and death.
Masterlist
The calming sound of the water surrounds you, its waves rock you back and forth like a mother's embrace as you lay on the back of your ilu.
You have no idea how long you've been here with your eyes closed just letting the rays of the sun hit your turquoise skin.
Surrounded only by water and the sky made you feel serene.
At Awa'atlu, there were numerous things to do. The tasks are exhausting but you're not complaining about your duties for the village or Tsahìk training, you were complaining about how you couldn't get enough alone time ever since the village found out that Eywa has given you a gift.
A gift of sight, they say.
The ability to See.
Not that you weren't already a Na’vi whose standing was uncertain in the village, but adding this “power” made everything more confusing.
Night and day you were frequently asked what you See. Na’vi from all ages and forms couldn't help but touch you in wonder, wanting to know how your abilities work and if it'll work on them.
You're grateful that you weren't left unattended for long periods of time, always having someone there to divert attention from you. It’s not like you needed the rescuing, the people in the village know you could kick someone's butt with your eyes closed, but you just don't have the heart to tell the people to keep their hands to themselves especially when it's the children.
This ability you had is new and unheard of, even Ronal the Tsahìk of the village was astounded by it.
The Olo'eyktan of the Metkayina clan,Tonowari, and his mate Ronal took you around to every village in the reef trying to figure out what your abilities meant or if it had happened before.
You all didn't figure out much.
News went around the reef that you have a strong connection with Eywa. This made those from other villages come to Awa'atlu just for you to heal them, but those who are still doubtful of your presence will go to Ronal and avoid you like the plague. You can’t blame them, you would also be suspicious of yourself.
One early morning, Rotxo and you were at the water hauling out your catch. Your mind wanders, asking yourself if your ability is seeing a glimpse of a person's faith or more on feeling...things. It was hard to explain.
"Why can't it be both?" Rotxo answered, tying the net to his ilu and yours.
You didn't notice you asked it out loud.
"I know I'm not Ewya but I wouldn't put it past The Great Mother to give you as many gifts as she could. You've been given a second life, Anilri. That's already one gift from Her.``
That same day as you were following Rotxo toward your marui to store your catch, you accidentally brushed the arm of a female warrior as she and her group were about to go into the water for their hunt party.
Instantly, you knew something wasn't right.
You didn't see anything but still told the warrior to be extra careful at the reef. You could only hold her arm as you tried your best to See what that sudden feeling meant but it was no use.
With no explanation to give her, you let go. The female looked at you with a frown but nodded in acknowledgment of your request.
That night, a commotion happened around the female warriors when they came back. With a sinking feeling, you ran towards the growing number of people and maneuvered your way to the front. They didn't stop you, some even moving out of your way without being asked. There you saw some of the warriors bruised and bloodied, wounds on their bodies but gladly alive.
Ronal came straight to check their wounds with Tsireya behind. Both of them have the needed tools and ointments on their arms.
You soon followed, kneeling in the sand as you tried to stop the bleeding from a Na’vi who was closest to you.
The wounded were many but with you, Ronal, and Tsireya, you all were slowly but surely patching them up.
Another party came and everyone instantly knew this one was different. Three Na’vis were carrying a body and as soon as you stood up to take her, you froze. It was the same female warrior you had told to be careful at the reef.
The mate of the warrior cried in despair as his mate was quickly carried towards you. You tried your hardest with Ronal next to you to heal her open wounds but the warrior had lost too much blood in the water and breathed her last in your care.
Everyone stood in silence, the cry of her mate was the only sound that broke it. Their daughter was there but she was far too young to understand that her mother could never again carry her on her back.
When the time came to move the warrior's body, her mate screamed. Each step he takes gets faster as he makes his way towards you.
Thinking of the worst possibilities that the Na’vi male might do in his current state, Ronal stood up and shouted for him to stop as Tsireya pushed you behind her to block his path from you.
But before anything happened, he stopped. “Please, can you do something? Anything?” he begged. His voice breaking as he looked at you with desperation.
Tsireya looked at you sadly and your heart broke for him. You know you could do so little being new to your connection with Eywa and you're not even sure if you could do anything in this situation.
Putting a hand on Tsireya’s shoulder to tell her it's okay, you turned and kneeled down towards the body on the sand.
Ronal and Tsireya moved back to give you space while another warrior took hold of mate’s arm to prevent any sudden movements from him.
She was a beautiful warrior and a brave one at that. You wished you could have done more, maybe if you told her not to go to the hunt this wouldn't have happened but you knew if it wasn't her some other Na’vi would have had the same faith.
So you did the only thing you know so far.
You closed your eyes and laid your hand on hers, concentrating on your breathing and only on her. It didn't take long before you felt at peace.
Everyone grew silent as you connected with the warrior's spirit. Your bioluminescent markings glowed bright orange, almost to the color of gold that had other Na’vi’s cover their gasps at its beauty.
Much like the Spirit Tree where you connect with your queue; you saw the female Na’vi warrior but instead of seeing a memory, you saw her surrounded by soft light that glowed beautifully behind her. She smiled, curling her hands towards her forehead and moving it downwards in greeting. She didn't utter a word but you knew that she was safe, that she
“–is with Eywa now.” you murmured, slowly taking your hands off as you opened your eyes.
You looked towards the mate of the warrior as he got down to his knees and wept. You saw Aonung and Tonowari watching everything in silence with their faces in awe. You smiled at how much they look alike.
Standing up, you walked towards the grieving Na’vi.
You didn't expect it and you don't think anyone did but as soon as you touched his shoulders to show support his emotions of grief, heartache, and acceptance felt like yours. Memories upon memories of their life were shown to you like flashing images on a screen. They were too fast to see properly but you felt his emotion in every memory that was shown.
Your knees gave out and you clutched your head in agony. All the emotions you felt from the memories were so intense that your head started to hurt from it.
You didn't notice the warmth of a body that engulfed your small stature until the pain in your head had subsided. Looking up, it was Aonung who had his arms around you, a frown on his face as he looked at you with worry.
The mate, who you now know as Zìtwu, looked at you in shock and you were pretty sure you had the same expression on your face as you look at him too.
It wasn't tsaheylu as your queues were far away from each other but, even if it were just for a short moment, it definitely felt like it.
You told this to Ronal after everyone had gone and everything had settled down. Ronal didn't have an explanation to why this happened except for your connection with Eywa.
“Eywa has given you these gifts, do not be afraid of it. She has chosen you for a reason.” Ronal said with her hands on your arm. The smile she gave you made your heartbeat a little slower.
Why on Pandora, cause Earth is now a shit hole, were you chosen? And how does one properly control these abilities? Questions you ask the wind hoping that Eywa was listening.
Ewya has given you a second life, literally. She might as well put powers inside you for the fun of it.
In the distance you hear laughter, two familiar ones that snapped you back to where you currently are.
Blinking your eyes a couple of times to adjust to the brightness, you saw two male Na’vis on their ilus getting closer to you as they talked. You decided to focus on them and make your ears work, catching a little bit of their conversation at the end.
"–wish I could see Kiloä’s face when he notices." The male voice said as the other one laughed.
"Funniest thing is that he won’t have any proof it was me this time."
As they got closer, their conversation gradually stopped.
Aonung looked at you with a smirk and Rotxo waved his arms at you in greeting, a mischievous smile on his face as he looked at Aonung and back at you, "Anilri! You won't believe what Aonung did–"
"You skxawng!" Said Aonung, hitting Rotxo on the arm, "You are such a snitch!"
Rotxo hissed at Aonung with attitude. The other boy scoffed and pushed Rotxo off his ilu. But to Aonung’s surprise and disbelief, Rotxo was prepared and grabbed his arm, dragging the surprised boy with him into the water.
Both boys were laughing, chasing each other as they swam around you. Their ilus chirped in amusement at their riders actions.
"Babies," you chuckle.
Sitting upright, you pat your ilu’s head as she wakes up from her nap.
Aonung and Rotxo continued with their antics, it was obvious that both boys wouldn't stop until someone gets caught.
“Go Rotxo! Get his ass.” you couldn't help but join in.
“You traitor! You're supposed to cheer for me!” Aonung stopped to look at you, causing Rotxo to catch up to him.
Aonung’s face was hilarious when Rotxo practically jumped on Aonung’s upper body to plunge the both of them underwater.
You laugh, having to hold on to your ilu so you wouldn't fall in the water too.
These are times when you wish that you had a camera on you to record these moments.
Having controlled your laughter, you saw Tsireya on her ilu making her way toward you. You waved your hand at her, making the younger Na’vi smile wider.
"I see you." You said and gestured.
"I see you, Anilri." She greeted you back.
When both boys ascended from the water you saw Tsireya roll her eyes, “Aonung, Rotxo.”
Seeing the younger Na’vi, Aonung and Rotxo’s bickering subsided.
Their eyes widened as they remembered they were here to actually bring you back to the village, that is before they got sidetracked.
Tsireya’s glare made the boys smile sheepishly, causing you to hide a giggle behind your four fingers. The fact that Tsireya resembles her mother when she glares probably added to the scare level Aonung and Rotxo feel.
“Sorry sis, we got side tracked.”
“Obviously.”
Aonung swam towards you and got on your ilu. He bumped his arms lightly to yours. "Where'd you go this time?" He asked, teasing you with a smile.
You rolled your eyes without answering him.
You sometimes forget the concept of time when you meditate or more so when you hyper focus on a certain thing. Your mind flying to who knows where making others tease you for it but also worried that you might get yourself hurt at some point.
"...I swear I know you would have smacked Aonung by now,” Rotxo said while floating in the water, his eyes on you with a small smile.
“And why would I do that?” You asked him with confusion.
“Rotxo, don’t–”
“He took Kiloä’s bow and exchanged it with Tswa'ew without their knowledge.”
Tsireya looked at Aonung with wide eyes, “Tswa'ew? Please tell me you're joking.”
Now that was news.
Tswa'ew is one of the female warriors in the village known for her rough demeanor and cold character. She is someone who Na’vi males fear and all Na’vi females look up to.
For many moon cycles now, Aonung has taken up a goal to get your brother in a relationship with any Na’vi in the village with random stunts like this. You don't have any clue how it started but you knew that Aonung’s antics always lead your brother to trouble.
And with Tswa'ew, you were pretty sure she wasn't looking for a male mate.
Shaking your head in amusement, you whack Aonung on the back of his head. “Why do you always have to get my brother in trouble, Aonung?”
"Hey! It’s just a bow, she’s not gonna kill him for it. And aren't you at all a little bit worried that he doesn't have a mate yet? I mean, he is getting old.``
Tsireya and Rotxo laughed, and you just glared at the boy next to you.
Kiloä wasn't that older than you.
You know Kiloä had already passed his Ikninaya and is now an adult in the eyes of the Metkayina, so his good-to-go in finding a mate to spend his life with. But you haven't really seen him taking interest in anyone as his only focus for now is bettering himself as a warrior.
Smirking but afraid that you might hit him again, Aonung jumped off your ilu and swam straight towards his.
You decided to let this one slide but noted in your head to tell Kiloä as soon as you set foot on land about what Aonung did before a spear strikes your brother's head.
For some time, the four of you stayed in content silence, just listening to the water and the far sounds of children's laughter as they played at the shallow ends of the water. Taking this moment in memory before going back to the village.
Peace and calmness surrounds you.
And you pray to Eywa it will stay that way.

Hart and Hunter - Chapter 34 - Part 1
*Warning Adult Content*
Dane Hunter
Julian and I share a glance, as if we're each making sure the other heard the same thing.
Slowly, I raise my hands.
"Erickson. Put the gun down," I say.
"You're making a mistake."
Unmoved, Erickson tightens his grip on Freya's arm and forces her to her knees on the dusty floor.
She bites her lip but doesn't make a sound, refusing to give him the satisfaction of knowing he's hurting her.
"Oh, there's no mistake," Erickson says, huffing with exertion and excitement.
"And don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. Thanks to your pal, Halloran, I know exactly what I'm talking about, Hunter," he spits my name like it's a disgusting piece of gristle he found between his teeth and Julian grimaces.
"All offense intended, Erickson but why would Halloran tell you anything?"
Erickson leers at him.
"We have an arrangement."
I keep my eyes on his gun.
"Okay, what's your plan? There's three of us and one of you."
Erickson shrugs and thumbs the hammer of his firearm.
"I figure if none of you want a bullet 'tween the eyes, you'll cooperate."
Julian moves in front of me.
"And I figure your 'boss' wants me alive," he says.
Scowling, Erickson redirects his aim, pressing the barrel to the side of Freya's head.
"Listen up, Hunter. Get your twink on a leash or I put a bullet through this one's brain. I only came here to give you a message... Julian for your sister, an exchange, tonight at the reservoir. Didn't expect to stumble on this little scene but given the opportunity, I figure I'll deliver the bounty in person, then wrap this case of 'burglaries' up at the same time. It's not unheard of for P.I. scum to make their own work and now I've got all the evidence I need."
He hauls Freya to her feet and gestures with the gun.
"Alright. Out to my car. You can drive, Hunter. Keep your hands glued to ten and two. I'll keep an eye on your boytoy and your... 'sister'," he sneers at Freya but despite her badly watering and bloodshot eyes, she arches a brow at him, undaunted.
"Bitch, I am already gonna fuck you up," she says.
"You do not want to disrespect me right now."
He snorts derisively.
"I think you're confused about who's gonna... hey."
Having picked up on Freya's almost imperceptible signal, I grab Julian and shove him to the side, drawing Erickson's attention.
At the same time, Freya twists free of his hold.
In one smooth, practice motion, she drops, sweeps her legs in a wide arc and knocks Erickson's feet out from under him.
He lands heavily on his back, momentarily stunned.
With far more flexibility than I could ever hope to master, Freya lifts her hips, slips her cuffed hands over her butt, rolls to the side and plants an elbow in Erickson's throat.
He makes an 'Urkh' noise and drops the gun reflexively as both his hands fly to Freya's arm, attempting to dislodge it from his neck.
"Stop struggling," Freya snaps, as I retrieve the weapon.
Defeated, Erickson obeys.
Slowly, she lifts her elbow so he can breathe.
"What the fuck... are you?" he rasps between ragged gasps as he rubs his throat.
"I'm a lot of things, honey," she says.
"Among them, a beauty queen, a bounty hunter and a badass bitch. Oh and a werewolf. Guess your boss forgot to mention that."
Her eyes flash a bright red-gold and her teeth show long and sharp as she grins.
Erickson makes a frightened noise... a sort of strangled gurgle... but lies still and says nothing more.
"You got him covered?" Freya asks, looking up in my general direction.
I get the sense she still can't see very well, which makes her brutal takedown all the more impressive.
"Yeah. Julian... get the key."
"Where is it?" he asks.
"Front right pocket."
That's where many officers carry their spares, anyway and thankfully, Erickson is no exception.
Julian finds the small, rod-like key and quickly frees Freya's hands.
"What do we do with him?" she asks, rubbing her wrists and grimacing at Erickson.
"Wolf's out the bag, now."
"That depends," I say and nod at Erickson.
"Why are you working with Halloran? Talk."

THEME: Card Deck TTRPGs
I'm going to @thecoppercompendium, because I believe they asked the same thing.
The Long Shift, by Caro Asercion.
Few things thrive out here in the Caliper Belt. Its sparse asteroids are flecks of lifeless stone along an inky strip of space. Back in the day, it used to glow with streaks of light as massive freighters hauled their cargo from outpost to outpost. But the ore dried up, and these days the Caliper Belt is little more than an interstellar shortcut.
Only spot in the Belt still worth visiting these days is the infamous Mari’s 26-Hour Cosmic. One part gas station, one part diner, one part truck stop, one part card café, assembled from old spaceships and satellites and tethered to a hunk of rock: Mari’s is a barnacle that refuses to die.
And the only reason it’s still afloat is because of our motley skeleton crew. We don’t see many folks come through these doors. But everyone who does drop in brings a story with them. And sometimes, those stories lead to stories of our own.
This is a GM-less game in which each person at the table will take turns picking up different roles over the course of the story. The two main roles are that of employee and traveler; these roles will interact and challenge each other over a series of scenes, the details of which you can generate with a number of handy tables that correspond to a 52-card deck. This game feels very slice-of-life, so if you want a cozy game that lets you bask in the feeling of hanging out at a beloved diner, this might be the game for you.
Trick-Or-Treat Carta, by DarkJaguar.
It’s Halloween and it’s time to Trick-or-Treat! You are excited for the candy gathering fun! The only issue is that there are some places that are haunted by some spooky monsters. Every year, you tell yourself that you will overcome your fear and face them! Will this year be different? Go trick-or-treating to collect Treats and Tricks to increase your courage and supplies to overcome your fear and beat those monsters once and for all before you have to head home before bedtime!
The Carta SRD is a great game system about characters exploring new places. This involves laying out cards in a grid, and then flipping them over as you play to reveal new places and new obstacles. This rule-set is designed for solo play, and so Trick-or-Treat Carta is a solo game as well. Over the course of this game, your kid will be working up enough courage to go to the house where a spooky monster is, and face their fears once and for all. Make sure to store up your Tricks - you might need them in the final showdown!
Into the Forest, by Secret Foxfire.
As one goes further into the forest, the trees get taller, and it gets darker as their leaves block out more and more of the sun. There, too, it gets stranger and more dangerous. There are stories of what lies in the darkness of the deep forest: ancient ruins, crumbling and overgrown; terrible beasts unlike anything humanity has ever seen; villages of strange people who have never seen daylight; artifacts, lost relics, and more. There are those who grow tired of the peaceful tranquility of village life and attempt to explore the depths of the forest to see what is really there. Very few of them ever return.
Into the Forest is a tabletop game for 1-3 players. Using a standard six-sided die, a deck of 52 playing cards, this guide, and your imagination, you go on a journey to discover what lies in the depths of the forest - and try to make it back out alive. One play session takes approximately 30 minutes.
This game can be played solo, or in a group of three. You’ll draw cards from a deck to reveal new possibilities as you travel through a dark forest, possibly losing or gaining supplies or health as you go. If you play as a group, you’ll have to deal with different obstacles should you get separated, but if you stay together all three of you can meet any problems that pop up together.
The game comes with a grid to help you track your progress, as well as various different modes to help you customize your play. Perhaps you want an easier run of the game, or perhaps you want to play competitively! There’s also rules to make healing easier, rules that help you replenish your supplies, and ways to use what you discover as you explore to help you solve problems.
Creature Craft, by Waufl.
Creature Craft is a collaborative storytelling game designed for either solo journalling or group-based worldbuilding. At the end of a game of creature craft, you will have created a minimum of three new species that you can use in your other TTRPG adventures!
This is a game about speculative biology and it uses a mix of simple language as well as snippets of scientific knowledge to help you craft new creatures and explore how they interact with the world. Each player creates three creatures at once and then you play them during seasons where they can either feed from plant food or munch (attack) each other.
This game feels very similar to the Evolution boardgame, which I very much enjoy. Unlike Evolution, however, your animals will be competing for resources over the course of the seasons, rather than over the millennia. The game comes with two price points: if you buy the $6 version, you get the basic rulebook. If you buy the $8 version however, you also get a book with some additional biology facts, in case speculative biology is kind of your thing. You can use this as a standalone game, or you can use it to fill another world with some really funky creatures.
Warp-Morph, by ToriBee.
In "WarpMorph," players are thrust into a narrative-driven adventure using the Carta framework, journeying through surreal dimensions in a desperate bid to return home. As a stranded scientist, an unexpected glitch in your NexWarp, a Portal Jumping Device, casts you into a labyrinth of alternate realities. There, you'll navigate haunting terrains, undergo unsettling mutations, and cross paths with both menacing foes and peculiar allies.
Each card draw unveils new challenges or potential aids, while the dwindling charges on your NexWarp serve as a constant reminder of your tether to movement between these bizarre worlds. As players unveil their story, they must balance strategy with adaptability, always aiming to rediscover the dimension that once felt so familiar, all while the chaotic expanse threatens to engulf them.
Here’s another Carta style game, this time about travelling through different realities as you try to find your way home. The four suits correspond to Energy, Mutations, Enemies and Allies, so expect some ups and downs over the course of play. I like the way this game balances your personal interpretation with the feeling of a dungeon crawler. If you want a game with weird science and a broad range of possible landscapes, this game might be for you.
Orchidelirium, by Luke (Æther Corp).
Take on the mantle of a grizzled and hardy orchid hunter in 1865, traversing the depths of unchartered territories in search of rare, elusive, and above all, expensive orchids for your shady employer, J. Carmichael & Associates.
For the Games Master, Orchidelirium provides a simple ruleset, an adventure, and improvisation tools to help build an adventure of discovery at the table.
Orchidelirium gives you the chance to play stuffy, competitive Victorian-era orchid hunters, using a deck of cards and a pile of pennies (or other coins, if you don’t use pennies) to help you both generate locales and obstacles as well as provide you with resources to help you resolve any problems along the way. The way you have to ration your resources reminds me of a board game in some ways, but since you’ll have to describe what your character is doing, and get chances to interact with other folks’ characters as you play, this still falls firmly within TTRPG territory.
Some other games I’ve recommended before include:
The Quiet Year, by Avery Alder.
This Ship Is No Mother, by Thomas Manuel.
On the off chance real people see this, what ttrpgs have you seen use a deck of 52 playing cards? Totally just asking for a friend.
(The friend is me.)

𝑆𝑎𝑝𝑛𝑎𝑝𝑠 𝐶ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑//𝑆𝑎𝑝𝑛𝑎𝑝 𝑝𝑡 4
Masterlist // child reader ML //
Sapnap x reader !p !child reader
Pronouns used: none specified!
Warnings: swearing, mentions of death, casinos
➳➳➳➳➳┄┄※┄┄➳➳➳➳➳
𝐊𝐢𝐧𝗼𝐤𝗼 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝗼𝐰??
Quackity was telling you all of his plans
He rambled on for hours of his ideas for casinos and how he was going to marry Karl and sapnap
It sounded great
He had his whole plan set up! He even had Sam helping him with the building
But then he left
Just like everyone else
But that was fine! You were just with sapnap
Before Karl came running over rambling on about needed to move his library
He had a library?
“[Redacted] you need to stay close, please”
You looked at him weirdly
Who the fuck was [redacted]
“Karl my names Y/n you idiot” “flame..” “sorry”
He didn’t even notice it and then you had to spend the next couple days hauling over 100 books
“Oo hey what are these! The covers look really weird”
You had found his time travel books
Woops
That man raced over and in the kindest way possible, snatched it from your hands
“Don’t touch those, they are my special books”
You just shrugged and let him be, he freaks you out enough
So you all traveled to this area in the spruce forest and built a really ugly mushroom hut
But hey it’s fine! Foolish thankfully came around later that day and made everything better
So you stuck around
Maybe you needed this, this new start
Oh but prime knows that wouldnt last long
Karl started forgetting
At first it was simple things as just forgetting where he was or little stumbles with names
But eventually he was going away longer and longer
He started calling you by these strange names, some that sound Victorian and western and others that are unlike you
One day he didn’t call you by your name at all
You were hanging around the Sakura trees and the big yin Yang pond waiting for sapnap to come back with George
Then you saw Karl exit the library, running up to him for a hug
It’s been two months since you’ve seen him
You fucking hated it but you couldn’t help but consider him another parental figure
He loved it
But he just stood there as you wrapped your arms around him
Expecting the usual “[reda]- Y/n, I’ve missed you so much my sweet flame!”
But there was nothing just a sad one sided hug
“Hello? I’m sorry but do I know you?”
You were ready to cry
“I’m sorry, I uh must’ve mistaken you for the wrong person” “No that’s fine! Hugs are nice?”
So you left and ran into the library
Scouring throughout all of the books until you found them
The same 8 books you shrugged away
You read through all of them along with Karl’s other journals
You didn’t like going through his stuff especially, a whole invasion of privacy
The more you read the worse it got
What were you gonna tell Sapnap?
Who the hell is James, and [redacted]?
And why couldn’t he stop
It’s no use anymore
You were simply just forgotten
𝐋𝗼𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐬
The closer you got to the large building, the sicker you got
Kinoko Kingdom was supposed to be your free pass
But somehow you always end up here
You called for Sam on the comms waiting for the beep
The inside looked great to say the least
“What are your past relationships with the prisoner?” “No answer.”
“Where are you currently resided?” “No answer”
“Do you believe the prisoner deserves his sentence?” “Maybe”
You put all your shit in the locker and followed him through all the safety checks
“I’m glad you didn’t bring anything with you”
You stood on the platform heart racing as the lava went down
It was like a ticking time bomb
The small squeaks and scratches of the hovering bridge
He just stared at you
That sick stupid mask was broken by tommy that day in the black stone room
So you had to look into his face
Lets just say he looks good in Orange
“Barrier up or down?” “Down”
He backed up into the corner as you stepped in
Smiling
Once the lava cascaded down your smile turned into a sick frown
“Hello” is that all he had to fucking say?
“Screw you. Fuck you. Damn you”
He just looked you a small chuckle escaping from his lips
“Those all mean the same thing.” “Well I’ve been living in cinnamon town for the past couple months, and I’m ready to fucking burn some buns”
Yeah he just laughed
“I’ve missed you Hot shot”
“You ruined our damn life!”
Someone went quiet
“If you didn’t have to have a petty little war, or criminalize children we could’ve been fine! It could’ve just been you, dad, me, and George.”
You were pissed, everyone just kept leaving you.
Tommy and Tubbo, Quackity, Karl, Dream, and hell even Wilbur
“You come and visit me, after not having seen me for months and you just yell? Not a hello or ‘how are you dream?’ ‘How’s prison dream’ ‘how can I help you get out of this damn place’ “
You just sat down ready to just walk out into the lava
“I’ve been stuck here for months! None of you even cared enough to visit me, hell even Tommy came around.”
You might have felt a little bad after leaving him
The prison was cold even tho lava was flowing right there
“Why would you leave the discs alone..” “Because I had to end it.”
What were you doing here
What were you planning on saying?
“So, what do you do in prison”
“I have a clock.”
You got up to go look at the pretty clock
Then threw it at his face
“Ow” “deal with it bitch”
The longer you stayed the worse the feeling in your stomach got
so you buzzed for Sam waving goodbye
“Wait.. Do they miss me?” “Can’t say, but I think this may be for the best.”
He wanted his best friends
But he just got the annoying teenager
Oh but that wouldn’t be the last
𝐋𝐚𝐬 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐬
You got a letter in the mail one day
Who the hell uses letters??
You were shocked to see the address and the small post card
“Come around some time”-Quackity
Ans on the back it had the cords
Oh well what did you have to loose? Sapnap was focused on Karl
and well Karl didn’t even know you
So you set off
It took you a couple hours travel by horse to get to the desert area
The large sign blaring in the red text
You gotta admit the place looked beautiful
There was a giant dick and different shops
You were shocked to see this random un human like guy
“Hello, I am Charlie a totally human guy!”
Yeah totally not slime
“I’m uh, Y/n?” He reached out for a handshake sort of thing
“Dap me up!” “Another time Charlie”
Maybe when you had hand sanitizer
“Ohh so your Y/n! Mister Quackity talks about you all the time, come on in!”
You were skeptical but followed anyways
Stopping in your tracks when you saw Fundy
“Furry?” “Fire shit?”
You went over to give him a side hug, ruffling his fur
“What the hell are you doing here ginger boy!” “Oh you know, just escaping nightmares”
You were confused then just let him be
You walked to the entry way of the place
A beautiful pond with flowers and an arch
“Did what the place where Mr. Quackity was going to propose!”
Going to?
You shrugged it off following inside
You hated to admit it, but you were excited to see him
Yeah you really needed a parental figure in your life at the moment
So when you saw him, he immediately pick you up in a hug
You didn’t fail to notice his change in appearance
That beanie stayed the same tho
Thank god
“Hey hey! Let me show you around the place, we can also go for lunch and talk.”
The casino looked great to say the least
Loud music booming from the speakers, along with the live jazz band on the side
Slot machines were going off every minute
“Have a chip, something to remember this by”
He handed you a red poker chip
It was a cool one tho, in the middle has a blocky sort of smile
Creepy and dopey.. sick!
So you put it around a spare silver chain
“So how have you been kid? ‘Ts been a while hasn’t it.” “Could be better..”
You both walked around the city in silence, offering to go in the super model shop
“No” “why not” “keep walking”
On your way to lunch you had to squint at what you were seeing
“Oh my goodness you’re still alive?!” “You’re alive!?”
You and revivebur just stared at one another
“Yeah he came back after I died!” “you what now-“
You just stared at Tommy and back to Wilbur
Oh god those shrooms were messing with your head
You should’ve gotten out of there a while ago
Quackity came over placing his hands on your shoulders
“Do I have to execute you both? Get off my damn property”
“Sorry Q. Say, Y/n wanna join Lmanburg 2.0?”
You back away holding your hands up
“I denied that offer once, and I’ll do it again. Fucking zombie freaks”
You obviously muttered the last part
Why the fuck did dream revive those two shits??
When did Tommy even die??
Your visit here has just gotten weirder and weirder
𝐌𝗼𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬
Quackity got you away from the brits as quick as he could
So he brought you over to his office
“So kid, how’s your dad..”
Ah you expected this question
“How the fuck am I supposed to know. He’s living his life, Karl’s time traveling! Oh yeah did I mention he doesn’t even remember me.”
He looked at you with wide eyes
“So I’m not the only one they forgot..”
You slammed you hands on the fable dramatizing the situation
“How would you feel about moving here? I mean you could work for me in the casino!”
You thought about it for a second
You have two options
1. Live in shroom town with bubbles
2. Move to las Nevada’s with Quackity
You were sure Sapnap wouldn’t mind
I mean would he even care?
He hasn’t for the past couple months!
“You feel abandoned there, over here there are hundreds of people. You’ll have the time of your life”
You thought about it for a sec
“Alright hand me a contract”
So you signed
Making deals with the devil huh
Little did you know it would cost you your life
Devils little soul
➳➳➳➳➳┄┄※┄┄➳➳➳➳➳
and this is the finale! I will take requests for sapnaps child, and I’ll do some shit with Quackity and the casino and go in more depth if wanted!
As always request and ask anything! And ask if you want to be on a taglist (child reader or general)
For those on the taglist I don’t know if you wanted to be tagged for all child reader shit or just dreams child.. so please tell me :)

jacin clay in "cress" (part 1/2)
so i'm rereading cress and i wrote down all the jacin moments + my thoughts because i kinda love him too much
this is part 1 of 2 !!! i'll post the 2nd part once i'm done with my reread and link it here
this is purely self-indulgent rambling... i don't have a point to make i just really want to talk about jacin. i feel like he gets less recognition than the rest of the rampion crew even though i personally thing he's an amazing character, and definitely one of my favorites in tlc
and i think it's really interesting to reread his interactions with the others while he's still in his "untrustworthy sarcastic asshole" phase, when you already know how he truly is as a person, and being able to see through that...
disclaimer:
this post might include spoilers for all of the lunar chronicles series, since i sometimes make links with moments from the other books!
it will also probably end up being long because i have the wonderful tendency to overanalyze everything
let's start with the moment cress tries to escape from sybil in her satellite. she runs into jacin who is, at the time, sybil's personal guard. up to that point in books, he's still described as the "blond lunar guard".
something cress notes about him is the sympathy in his eyes. she's unsure about how real it is, since she obviously can't trust him, but we know from the later books that he felt guilty for not being able to help her then.
i think it's just so interesting to see how quickly jacin changes the moment he's not in the presence of a thaumaturges? like his character development isn't a thing where he learns to be kind after he escapes his guard position, he really already is but hides it for obvious reasons.
and he can hide it, he's basically a pro at hiding his emotions and keeping his facial expressions neutral, which means he could have kept the cold act with cress, regardless of his real intentions. but he didn't ??
he knows cress is probably terrified so he allows himself to be expressive for even a second while sybil isn't here. he can't comfort her or help her but at least he can hint at her that he's not in this situation willingly either. it's not the best, but imagine how much worse it could have been for cress if she thought had he had murderous intent towards her.
"I don't supposed you killed her?" that's my beloved sarcastic asshole – he means that as long as sybil's here he can't do anything, but him being so direct startles cress help ?? she must have been so confused because it's not what she expected him to say, and his sentence is ambiguous enough for you to not immediately understand what he's implying there.
when thorne gets captured (thank you captain for your sacrifice) we finally get to know our dear blond guard's name! jacin<3 (sorry thorne)
later, we have the fight between sybil and cinder. and i just think that jacin pretending to be controlled by cinder as an excuse to shoot sybil is still the best thing ever please i love him so much
his indecision before helping an injured sybil
the fact that cinder finds it really easy to control him just makes me sad because it's just one more reminder that he's literally trained himself to keep his mind blank
obviously, his main reason in helping cinder here is because he needs her alive since he thinks that she can help winter (since she's against levana), but MAN the scene where he pretends to be controlled to shoot sybil?? i need to mention it again because you can't tell me he didn't partially do it out of spite
he's such a quick thinker???? he notices that sybil was already struggling to control wolf and immediately acts, knowing that it could be enough to help them escape. "The guard held her gaze for one throbbing moment, before he hauled himself up and ran toward his mistress." — jacin hasn't done anything to warrant their trust, so all he can do is hope that cinder knows he doesn't want to hurt her and use this moment he gave them to get away
OK NOW JACIN'S IN he's with the rampion crew omg... sucks that we had to lose scarlet for this BUT listen at least i know it ends well so i'm allowed to say that...
from "Your friend's dying", to him not even protesting when cinder asks for his shirt to use as a bandage, to him giving her medical advice to help wolf... THE FACT THAT HE HAS A LOT OF MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE ISN'T LOST ON ME jacin clay you are going to be the universe's best doctor
also he doesn't even try to earn their trust because he knows they have no reason to trust him? so he just reasons with them in the most logical way possible about what they can do and hope they will take his advice. a very jacin thing to do.
“You serve the queen,” she said. “How can I trust you?". His lips twitched, like she’d made a joke, but his eyes were quick to harden again.
“I serve my princess. No one else.”
NO YOU DON'T GET IT I'M SCREAMING???#&÷ slamming my fist into the wall this line is everything YES it causes some bit of confusion but the way he says it not even trying to explain what he means sorry i just love winter and jacin so so much... have i ever mentioned they're my comfort ship
later he asks about wolf's injury :(( say what you want about his jerk attitude he DOES actually care, even when he doesn't know wolf
"Yeah, but I figured a formal introduction would be nice, now that we’re on the same side.”
“Is that what you’ve decided?”
HE'S SO ANNOYING I LOVE HIM
and then he introduces himself for the first time !!! JACIN CLAY what a legend (this is the most biased post i have ever written)
CHAPTER 25 AKA THE SCENE WITH CINDER AT THE SHOP. THEIR ENTIRE CONVERSATION SPECIFICALLY.
he's still limping :(( he never even once mentioned his injury...
so perhaps he's being unnecessarily rude to the shopkeeper BUT HEAR ME OUT mm had to give him a flaw otherwise he'd be too perfect
i actually have a lot of things to say about the whole talk about the shopkeeper's son who refused to become a lunar guard so i'll make a separate paragraph below
he can pronounce "fentanylten" without stuttering i just know he has all the medicine molecule names memorized that nerd
cinder asking him whether he wanted to become a guard and him answering “Naw. I always wanted to be a doctor.” THERE IT IS he wanted to be a doctor. oh my god. he wanted to be a doctor. but he was forced into becoming a lunar guard. did i mention that he wanted to be a doctor.
and in true jacin fashion he says it with as much sarcasm as he can so that, if we weren't in cinder's pov (who has a lie detector) we would just think he's just saying whatever
more discussions about becoming a lunar guard aka my heart hurts he really deserves better
"Who would Levana have murdered if you’d refused?” / “Doesn’t matter. They’re probably going to end up dead anyway.” someone teach this guy healthy coping strategies i'm begging you
the way he says he was chosen for his pretty face........ i know it's sadly true but it's really funny to me he really has the comedic timing down
second requirement for becoming a guard is where things get sadder: having a weak gift and learning how to keep your mind blank. the fact that he does it so much to the point that it's become a habit for him is just horrifying to think about. he tries to show that he's unaffected, that he's accepted it, but can we pause and look at the words he uses to describe himself as a guard?? "We're like puppets", "I would have been the same brainless mannequin that I usually am", "To them, I have about as much brains and willpower as a tree stump" this is painful
when cinder asks him to lie and he goes “Levana’s not so bad, once you get to know her.” PLEASE his humor is great actually
also him grinning after that and making cinder laugh i love that i love that so much !!! in general i love seeing the rampion crew progressively becoming friends but jacin's moments specifically make me really soft because he's just so used to staying emotionless...
the thing about him is that he always says these things in a very nonchalant way but you just know that it affects him a lot. he keeps his tone very neutral during the entire conversation, even when talking about horrific things... until he thinks about winter. when cinder mentions her lunar gift suppressing device, and he realizes there might be a way to prevent the side effects of not using your gift. that's the first moment jacin shows any emotion, and even cinder is caught off-guard. she notices how he just drastically changes and how he can't manage to hide it even after he recomposes himself. that's the only moment so far, besides him seeming sympathetic towards cress, in which you see his façade crack.
ok now i just want to talk about why (i think) he was so hostile about the shopkeeper's son & wolf fighting to avoid not being controlled by levana. this is very much me over-analyzing so i just hope i can make sense.
the woman basically explains that her son prefered dying over joining the lunar guard, even when it led to terrible consequences to his family. jacin says "I guess he must not have cared about you very much." meanwhile the woman describes it as an act of bravery, despite everything.
don't get me wrong I KNOW he was being incredibly insensitive, but jacin has basically been desensitized to everything ever so honestly i don't think we can expect anything else from him?? even if he was wrong to say that. he's not necessarily calling the son selfish though. in the context, lunars know that refusing to become a royal guard means your family getting killed. it's not a possibillity / a potential consequence but really a fact, a direct outcome.
the only reason jacin is able to accept his life as a guard is because he doesn't want anything bad to happen to his family & winter.
i mentioned it earlier but jacin seems to be really practical as a person, in the sense that he always tries to go for the logical route and looks at everything in a really realistic, blunt way. kinda cost - benefit way, if you want. he doesn't take chances if it could potentially risk the lives of his loved ones. it's probably just the only way he's found to "reason" with himself and accept all the terrible things he has to do as a guard. because at least it keeps them safe.
we also see more of this mentality when cinder defends wolf by saying "He’d rather fight, and lose, than become another one of her pawns. We all would." and jacin says that not everyone has that option. because in his case, he has way too much to lose. wolf mainly fought that hard because he was trying to help his loved one (scarlet), and cinder doesn't have as much to lose, so the situations are different.
also, although there are several lunars in the rampion crew, the only one who has lived as an actual citizen in luna, is jacin. winter did, too, but her circumstances are a bit different as a princess (and cinder doesn't know winter yet, here).
wolf being on earth (also being insanely physically strong) gives him a few options to escape, to fight. jacin doesn't have that. even his gift is weak. in luna, and especially when he's around thaumaturges, defying orders in any way would just be an immediate death sentence to him and everyone he cares about. especially when you consider that in his case, his dad (a royal guard) and winter (princess, the queen's step-daughter) are in levana's direct reach and you know levana is just waiting for an excuse to torment winter.
going with the rampion is already big enough of a risk, but there is always the "they controlled me" and "sybil glamoured me to take scarlet" safety net. still not a guarantee because luna isn't exactly forgiving. but still, definitely safer than manifesting defiance.
the ONLY moment i recall where jacin actually makes a huge gamble is in book 4, where he risks a lot to try to save winter. other than that, he's not willing to take chances when someone else's life is on the line.
obviously, when cinder says that, she doesn't know him or his real motives to know why he can't allow himself to defy orders. after all, she's still really confused as to why he's helping her in the first place. but i just think it's interesting to see how his mentality, as someone living directly under a tyranny, compares to the others', who kinda see things from the outside.
in his mind, he has no way out or any way to make his life better, so he tries to avoid making it worse even if it means sacrificing his well being. that's just the way things are for him. meanwhile, the woman's son's actions kinda go against everything that jacin has worked so hard for, and everything that is important to him.
again, this is all in the perspective of someone who hasn't exactly had the ideal conditions and opportunities to develop empathy. and yet he is empathetic, (sure, sometimes less than the average person) he just doesn't allow himself to express it properly.
soooooo uh that's about it for now.
i decided to cut this into 2 parts because i thought it was getting way too long. i'm about halfway through cress and i'm writing the 2nd part as i read it! i'll probably be done within a few days and post it & i'll add a link to this post when i do!
if you've reached this far, thank you so much for reading my incoherent rambling about jacin clay. no idea why you would do that, but thank you regardless!!
i'd love to hear people's thoughts on this, on him in general, anything really ! i just really needed an excuse to talk about tlc and jacin honestly.
part 2 is here

***
He's been a ghost in my head for four months.
Everywhere I went I could hear his voice, hear the way he whimpered out my name and how cries got higher and higher as I clenched around him. I felt the rough grip he held on my hips as I rode him, the pads of his fingertips leaving behind faint bruises that I currently wished I still had.
And more prominently, I saw his face. It was always in the back of my mind, burning into me with lust-drunk eyes and a pouty mouth in the shape of an O. It sizzled into my brain, the sound definitely sounding more like raindrops than fire, but I was more than okay with that.
Though, every time it rained, I couldn't help but wonder if he felt the same— if he stood outside or watched from the safety of wherever he was and replayed that moment over and over again until he was aching to be in my presence once more.
I also had to wonder if he knew about the ring I'd left in his front seat.
Did he leave it in his car, perhaps in the glovebox or on a string that he tied around his mirror? Or did it fall somewhere between the seats? Maybe he found it and did what I never could, pawning it off for some happily-accepted cash while he laughed at how careless I was to take a stranger's virginity and then leave my expensive diamond ring behind like a fool.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the means to find out.
It's not like I could have wandered up to the FBI building and ask to meet with a Dr. Spencer Reid... Right? Because that as absurd. I'd only met the guy once, and he'd probably think I was crazy for trying to track him down.
It was a whole ordeal that I'd mulled over again and again, and I ultimately decided that it was ridiculous.
If anything I was happy to be rid of the ring. I could move on with my life, and maybe Spencer sold it for money or he's held on to it as a souvenir for a special night.
Win-win.
It didn't dull the small ache I felt for him, though. Every once in a while I found myself remembering how great that night was... I hadn't felt that way—sexy, confident, fun—in a long time, and as much as it sucked that he was getting picked on by some drunk idiots at a bar, I was glad it led me to him.
Some nights, when I was missing him significantly more than usual, I even went back to Waterson's in the event that I'd run into him again, hopefully under better circumstances.
Tonight was one of those nights.
This time I didn't have a ring to keep most of the men from hitting on me, but now that I was well and truly over my ex-husband, I was glad I didn't use that as an excuse to keep the ring around anymore. As annoying and painful as the drunken flirting was, I was way better equipped to handle it and truthfully somewhat relieved that I could get back to normal.
You know, save for the fact that I was only at Waterson's in the first place to maybe see some guy I hooked up with four months ago and still haven't stopped thinking about...
Because that was totally a normal thing to do.
I was on my second beer of the night when I felt a presence behind me. And even though I was pretty sure than I'd be able to tell if it was really Spencer, a part of me still buzzed thinking of the prospect of seeing him here again.
I turned around though, and was met with an entirely different person. I tried not to look disappointed, but it must have shown because the man who'd caught my attention gave a small laugh.
"I'm sorry, are you expecting someone?"
I liked to think that I had a good read on most people, especially when it came to men in bars. This man was someone I looked at for a few seconds and immediately knew that he wasn't looking to make me uncomfortable. He had come over to flirt with me, no doubt, but the difference here was that where most men would have gone straight into it, this man genuinely looked like he was willing to haul ass if I really was waiting for someone and didn't want his company.
That alone made me willing to entertain him a little, even if I was disappointed that he wasn't who I desperately wanted him to be. But it certainly helped that he was attractive.
The first word that came to mind was smooth. Even as I laughed back at the man and answered him, my eyes did some wandering of his figure and admired what I saw. A crisp, tight grey tee shirt that hugged some rather nice muscles, and brown skin that was just a few shades lighter than his eyes, which were kind and a little playful. His smile was stunning, sharing that same playfulness that his eyes held as he practically sparkled to life at my answer.
"Oh, no, I'm not... But I certainly wasn't expecting you..."
I made sure to smile at him, a little smirk that complimented the admiring eyes I was offering him and a little laugh that never failed to get me what I wanted.
He gently leaned into the bar, one of his hands coming to rest of the cool wooden surface. "I'm Derek."
"Y/N."
"Pretty name."
I don't know what made me so bold, but I nodded and shot him a wink. "Not as pretty as you."
We shared another laugh, and then I took a swig of my beer, finishing the last of it and then sliding towards him. "Can I buy you a drink?"
"We just met and you're already stealing from me... That's my line."
"What can I say, I'm quick... Hey, Carla! Can I get two more for me and my friend here?"
The bartender—and my longtime friend—laughed a little, taking my empty bottle. "Sure thing."
The look she gave me right before turning away practically yelled, I thought your type was helpless skinny white guys who can barely look you in the eye without creaming themselves...
Yeah, well, you worked with what you were given. And besides, my type was practically anyone with just a shred of decency.
Real high bar, huh?
But after Patrick, I couldn't complain. Derek seemed like the type of guy who would flirt with you at any given chance, but respected your boundaries all the same. Unfortunately that was hard to find nowadays, especially in bars like Waterson's.
So, yeah, he wasn't the man I was naively wishing to see here tonight, but he was into me, he was decent from what I could tell, and he was hot.
So we had a drink and spent a good twenty minutes chatting it up. Since it was my third beer of the night, I was accumulating a pretty steady buzz, and the longer I talked with Derek the more I opened up a little. I found myself leaning into him and finding excuses to lightly touch his arm, but I kept noticing that he was glancing down at his watch occasionally.
"Are you expecting someone?" I asked, playfully.
"Right, uh... Yeah, I was supposed to be meeting a friend here. He's usually early, but I think we got our times mixed up again..."
"Again, huh? You two aren't very good coordinators?"
Derek laughed, the sound making me feel all warm. "Well, for FBI agents you'd think we'd be better at it."
"O—Oh," I said, my heart stopping for a beat. Had I heard that right? Was I more tipsy than I thought? "FBI?"
"You seem stunned," he said with another laugh. "What, you're not a criminal, are you? Do I have to take you in?"
I laughed, albeit nervously, but decided that this all had to be pure coincidence. If I didn't, I would have gone insane. Even still, it was difficult for me to sit here and openly flirt with this man when I knew he just confessed to having the same profession as the literal man of my dreams— and as of late that also included daydreams.
In fact, I was positive that's what it was when I saw Spencer approach us— a daydream.
Derek was calling my name, I knew that much, but I couldn't do anything but look over his shoulder where Spencer's ghost practically froze in place when he spotted me.
"Y/N?"
That wasn't Derek's voice. Spencer's mouth moved in time with the calling of my name, and it even sounded like him. I blinked rapidly, hoping that I could snap out of it and excuse myself for the rest of the night, so I could go home and sleep it off.
But even when I finished blinking, expecting Spencer's figure to be gone, he was still there.
At this point Derek had turned around, and what he said next snapped me out of it pretty damn good.
"Reid? You know her?"
"You're real," I said, speaking for the first time in a while. My throat felt dry, and my heart came alive at the sight of him.
Spencer stared at me, his eyes softening after I spoke to him. I saw his lips twitch into a shy smile before his hand came up in an equally shy wave. "Y—Yeah, I'm real." What followed was a huffed laugh that cemented his nervousness at seeing me again for the first time in four months, and it was the most refreshing thing I'd heard in a while.
"Oh my God," I said, a smile of my own starting to creep up.
I'd completely forgotten about Derek being there until he spoke up, snapping us out of our reunion, his voice conveying every range of confusion.
"What the hell is this?"
***
I knew there was always a minor chance that I'd run into her again, but it still rendered me utterly still and practically useless when I spotted her across the bar with Derek.
She was just... there. After months of debating whether or not I should send her a letter with the ring mailed back or stopping by to see her, or even using Garcia's help to find where she might have been so I could 'surprise' running into her... It happened to chance that I didn't need any of that at all. Because she was really there.
And she was flirting with Derek.
I'd have been lying if I said that didn't really bother me, but truthfully I'd always felt a bit insecure around him, mostly when it came to being surrounded by women who were most likely fawning over him instead of me.
Not that I particularly wanted or even needed them to fawn over me in the first place... It was just... Telling.
And it's not like I knew or thought I wasn't at least somewhat attractive. But seeing the one and only woman who'd ever made me feel very good about all of that for probably the first time in my whole life openly flirting with my best friend? It stung. It felt like now that she'd seen me and him in the same place, she'd decide that she'd made a mistake before and that she'd be better off with someone else— someone who was stronger and more skilled and probably easier to look at.
Even when the three of us sat at a booth and Y/N decided to sit next to me, her proximity dizzying after all this time apart, the first thought that came to my mind was, She doesn't want to see me. She'd much rather sit across from Derek so she can look at him instead.
I was starting to think maybe I should have stuck to mailing her a letter...
"So... Are you gonna tell me how you two know each other?" Derek asked, leaning back and easily amused.
Y/N seemed to be amused by all of this, too, because she answered immediately, a tone in her voice that I'd only dreamed about for four months and nine days straight.
"Oh, we were engaged."
If I didn't know any better, I would have thought Derek's eyebrows were going to fly straight off his head. "Engaged? Like... Engaged?"
"I—It's not what you think," I jumped in, suddenly a little embarrassed. "Not really engaged, but... Y/N pretended to be my fiancée once... There were, um... There were these guys who wouldn't leave me alone and she came over and told them off."
I hoped he wouldn't piece it together, but it was inevitable, and the look of realization that crossed his features made me feel extra warm with embarrassment.
"Oh... Is she the reason why you actually said yes to that date last month?"
Y/N turned to me, an eyebrow raised. "A date? Because of me? I don't... I don't follow..."
I was going to explain, but Derek beat me to it.
"I've always tried to set Pretty Boy here up for a date, but he's always said no, and then out of the blue I ask him and he agrees. Which was a shock in its own. I knew something was up, something had to have given him the confidence to go on the date... And all along its been you, hasn't it?"
"Well, I... I don't know, I guess so?"
They both looked at me then, and I stared down at my hands, unwilling to look either of them in the eye. "Y—Yeah... I don't know, I guess Y/N just... helped me see something in myself I hadn't seen before."
I half expected them to think it was silly, but Y/N's hand dropped down onto my knee and I stared at it for a moment before flitting my eyes up to meet her gaze. It was soft, and a small smile grazed her pretty features.
"Oh, Spencer, I'm so glad I could do that for you... How was the date?"
"O—Oh, it... It was fine. Not... I'm not seeing her anymore, but it wasn't bad... Just, um... There wasn't much of a connection, that's all."
In simpler words, She wasn't you.
But I couldn't tell her that, not when she was staring at me again with those sparkling eyes and her hand burning a hole through my pants with her electrifying touch, and most certainly not with Derek sitting right in front of us.
"Hey, whether it worked out or not, whatever you did to get him out there, it must have been one hell of a job," he said as if he'd been reading my thoughts.
Y/N gave me a knowing look, though, and suddenly I was transported to my car, feeling her hand explore my body as she showered me with filthy words and names that set me alight and cemented something about myself that I'd never known. Since then I had dreams about her, telling me how much of a 'good little whore' I was for her, and I always woke up from those dreams clutching her ring around my finger.
"Well, like I said, I'm glad I could help. Your boy here is one in a million."
It was awkward. This was all very extremely awkward. And even though I knew that, I still couldn't bring myself to stop it. I couldn't bring myself to stop staring at Y/N, soaking her all up like she was going to leave again at any given second. I couldn't stop thinking about her, our predicament, what we did and what I discovered about myself back then...
God, I was talking like we hadn't seen each other in years. It was only four months and yet I was acting like she'd left me alone after years of being together. This was ridiculous, right?
Thankfully Derek's phone rang, snapping us all out of the bubble of silence we'd been in for what seemed like forever.
"Uh, I'm gonna... get this. Be back in a few."
I expected Y/N to drop whatever act it was she had going on with me after he left the table, but her hand remained firmly on my knee. And then she moved a little closer, turning to me completely and tilting her head with a smile that only meant mischief.
"So... Looks like we have some catching up to do..."
***
I was practically giddy when Derek excused himself for a "Garcia Emergency". Though, I was concerned until he assured us that it wasn't anything bad, and by the look on his face as he quickly talked things over With Spencer, I got the feeling he was expecting his friend to 'have some fun' tonight. And that's what truly made me giddy.
We sat close to each other again, a few drinks between us and only a few booths away from the one we sat in the first time we met. If it weren't for the rock missing from my finger, I would have been convinced we'd actually transported back to that exact moment.
"You getting Deja vu, Doctor?" I asked with a smile, watching as he swallowed.
"Y—Yeah, kinda. It's great seeing you again, I... I really didn't think I would."
I laughed. "You know where I live, and you're an FBI agent... I'm pretty sure you could have saw me again if you wanted to."
"Well... Yeah, but I didn't want to be creepy or anything..."
"Trust me... If you randomly showed up at my door, I'd be anything but creeped out. I missed you..."
Spencer looked up at me for a moment, his eyes shifting before he seemed to relax. "You... did?"
"Of course... I haven't stopped thinking about you since we met. And I hope that's not creepy," I added in a laugh.
"No, not at all," he reassured with a nervous laugh of his own. "Actually, um... I've been thinking about you a lot, too..."
"Even on your date?"
I'd only meant it as a little joke, maybe another conversation starter, but at the mention he seemed... embarrassed.
"Oh, no, that was... That wasn't really... I—I only really did it to get Derek off my back, it—"
I rested a hand on his arm and smiled gently. "Hey, it's alright... I didn't really mean anything by that, I'm just... I meant it before, I'm really glad you did it. I know you said it didn't really work out, but did you have some fun at least?"
He laughed again, but this time there was hardly any humor in it. "Well, she wasn't you..."
I smiled a bit, but immediately following his words was a wide-eyed terror and instant regret. "Oh, I didn't... I'm sorry, I—"
"So, you did think about me on your date, huh?"
He froze then, presumably at the low, seductive drawl I blanketed over my words. His mouth slightly hung open, tongue flittering behind teeth as he tried to find the right words.
I smiled at him, and then he settled on, "Yeah. I did."
"It's not very polite to think of other girls while you're on a date, you know..." I made sure to let him know I was only teasing, and that I just wanted to know what his reaction would be.
Still, he surprised me when he said, "It's not my fault you're impossible to forget..."
He flashed me a smile then, and my stomach twisted deliciously at the little dash of confidence he'd grown in the past minute.
Maybe I could bring more out of him...
"Okay, fair... But it is your fault that you didn't come find me."
"Also fair... But... You're here now..."
Spencer inched closer to me, and I smiled, taking my bottom lip gently between my teeth before leaning in, too. "How about that..."
Our lips brushed for a second, so gentle it was like being tickled by a feather, and then he spoke again, his breath hot on my mouth. "I've... dreamt about seeing you again for so long now... Kissing you..."
"Me, too," I responded, bringing a hand down to graze the inside of his thigh. "Guess it's a good thing I'm a firm believer that dreams come true."
"Yeah," is all he said before he finally took the initiative to finally kiss me.
I sighed, melting into his touch and tightening the grip I had on his leg. Meanwhile his hands rested at my forearms, fingers dancing experimentally over my skin and making me tingle in their wake. And once I parted my lips, he took his shot and gently brought his tongue out to meet mine in a collision that quite frankly made me throb.
He'd been a decent kisser before, but... It's obvious he's had a little practice since then. Not that I'd have minded either way, but damn if this newfound experience didn't give me the most sinful idea.
I felt him whine as I pulled away, and that made everything even better.
"You wanna get out of here?" I said in the cheesiest way possible. But he didn't seem to mind.
In fact, he nodded rapidly and took a quick drink of his beer before following me out of the booth and towards the door.
***
Leading Spencer up and through the doorway of my house was probably the most electrifying 'date' experience I've had... well, ever. I'd been excited to sleep with people, sure, but with Spencer I found something greater. I wasn't entirely sure what that was, yet, but it was definitely good.
He reiterated that thought nicely once the door was closed and his hands were on my face, bringing my mouth to his again while I dropped by keys and haphazardly threw my phone and wallet on the side-table next to us in favor of gripping his shirt.
Just through his kisses I could tell how much he'd longed for this moment. I know he told me, and I'd certainly understood the feeling, but when it came down to actually acting it out in the flesh, I was much more in favor of that method of communication.
I gladly accepted his wordless confessions, through every groan and gentle graze of his tongue that he offered to me. And in return I gave him sharp tugs of his shirt and hair, conveying my urgency and the need to be closer to him.
When my legs started moving, his did, too, and we reluctantly pulled apart in favor of not tripping up the hard wooden staircase on the way to my bedroom. Though, I was thankful he was in just as much of a rush as I was, because otherwise I probably would have gotten embarrassed.
And that didn't happen easily.
I fumbled for the light switch once the door shut and our mouths connected once again, and I could have sworn it was like something out of a trashy TV show. The thought almost made me laugh, but I held it in in favor of moaning when Spencer lowered his hands to my ass and squeezed, pulling us closer together. I finally hit the light switch and then flow both of my arms to wrap around his neck and draw him even closer.
He was everywhere all at once, and it fueled me. I'd come to miss physical human interaction, but I hadn't realized how badly I craved it until he was right there, taking up all of my personal space and aiding me in creating this perfect recipe of frantic, glorious electricity.
It was going to kill me, and I would have gladly let it.
I experimentally rolled my hips forward and felt him gasp into me, and it wasn't long before he started growing hard.
Good... Now I could set the plan in motion.
"Remember what you told me?" I asked breathlessly before our heads switched sides and leaned in for more kisses.
In between them, he returned, "When?"
"The first time we met..." I trailed my lips down the column of his throat as I continued. "When you said you edged yourself..."
"O—Oh... Yeah, I remember."
"Mmm," I hummed, sucking a mark into his neck for the time being. As I did it, the grip he held on my ass tightened a bit, and I laughed lightly over his skin, slowly licking my way up to his ear. "I wanna see..."
The trembling he provided under my influence was a good sign. And then another came when he whispered. "Y—You want to see... me? Touching myself?"
"Mhmm..." I planted kisses all along his jaw before pulling back to look him in the eye, making sure he knew I was serious when I told him, "But only if that's okay with you."
He didn't even take a second to think, nodding rapidly once more and giving me a flash of a smile. "It's okay."
I hummed happily, leaning forward to give him one huge kiss, long and hard, before pulling away from him completely and nodding towards the bed. "Clothes off..."
Our hands got to work as soon as the words left my mouth.
And it wasn't until my shirt was on the ground and Spencer's eyes remained glued to my chest with trembling hands that I realized, even though we'd slept together before, our clothes had never actually come off. Tonight we were completely baring ourselves to each other, and that was somehow more intimate than the idea of taking his virginity was.
I reached out and grabbed his shirt, gently assisting him in removing it, and it must have snapped him out of wherever he'd gotten trapped because he shook his head and let out a nervous laugh, averting his eyes from me and staring at the ground.
"S–Sorry."
"Nothing to apologize for," I reassured, throwing his shirt to the ground next to mine and bringing his hands to rest on my bare stomach, slowly sliding them up. "I like when you look at me..."
His eyes reached mine once again, breath hitching as I guided his hands to cup my breasts over the bra. "Well, I... I like looking at you."
I kissed him again, hoping to bring forth some familiarity to our current routine, and it worked like a charm. Our movements were slow and steady, each article of clothing joining the floor one by one until we were down to nothing but my underwear.
I led him to the bed then, breaking us apart and making him sit. Now that I was taller than him, I gripped his chin in my hand and tilted his head up to look at me.
"Lay back for me?"
He scooted further along the bed until finally he leaned back, his head resting nicely on my pillows. I climbed up after him, kneeling at his feet and bringing a hand down trace lines along the inside of his thigh. Meanwhile I looked him up and down, finally getting a decent look at his full, bare form.
"Ohh, so pretty... And I bet you're even prettier when you're touching yourself... You wanna start?"
He reached out for his dick in answer, wrapping a delicate hand around it and slowly stroking up and down as he looked up at me with the stars in his eyes. "Like this?"
"However you normally do it, baby. Just relax. Make yourself feel good..."
After a slight nod, his hand picked up a little speed. He swiped his thumb over the tip to gather some precum for lubrication, but as hot as that was, I had a better idea.
"Here, let me help," I offered with a smile, leaning down and bracing my hands on his knees. I let spit gather on the end of my tongue before allowing it to drip down and land right on the tip of his cock. The sound he let out, broken and dripping with want, sent a jolt of electricity through my blood, only amplified by how wet he sounded once he started moving his hand again.
I let my eyes roam all over, taking in every heave of his chest, the veins in his arm and hand as he worked himself, the soft fluttering of his eyes as he lost himself in the moment... At the risk of sounding absolutely cheesy, it truly was a magical sight. I felt entirely lucky that I got to see him again at all, and now like this, bare and vulnerable and exuding lust while I was left to my own devices.
All that to say, I hadn't realized I was touching myself as well, until a whimper came from my mouth, my clit gently throbbing with stimulation at the hands of... well, my hand.
Upon seeing me, Spencer let out a whine of his own, picking up speed with his hand and throwing his head back onto the pillow.
"Y/N..."
He wasn't addressing me, wasn't asking me anything at all... My name on his lips was more of a declaration, like some type of chant, a string of letters and syllables formed specifically to bring him closer to the edge he knew he'd have to resist falling from.
"You getting there, baby?"
"U—Uh huh..."
"You better hold it," I drawled lowly, bringing myself into the more strict persona I wanted to bring out tonight, given that's still something he was into. "Just like you promised."
After a few more hard strokes of his hand, Spencer leg to quickly, bringing his hand to rest on his chest as his mouth let out the most delicious whines and grunts of determination to keep it all in. Without the stimulation, I noticed his dick slightly twitching over his stomach, glistening and hard...
Fuck, if it wasn't the hottest fucking thing I'd ever experienced with my own eyes and ears...
I pulled my hand out of my underwear, too, still a little shocked that I hadn't realized before that I was doing it to myself and a little turned on at the fact that it had that big of an effect on him.
"I—I would have been able to go longer, but... But you were there, and you were... And I only ever have you in my head, not right in front of me..."
It was obvious that he was probably afraid he'd let me down somehow, and that was definitely not the case. So I leaned down and dragged my hands over his lower stomach, feeling inch of skin while my mouth came down to press featherlight kisses to the base of his dick. "Spence, that was hot as fuck... You really think of me when you do that?"
"Mhm," is all he offered, currently reveling in the way my tongue darted out to explore the lines of his cock.
"I think of you, too," I admitted, pausing to press a kiss to the underside of his tip. "When I touch myself... I think about how pretty you were the first time I called you a slut... Tell me, baby, you still like that?"
"God, Y/N, yes..."
I sucked gently on his tip now, watching as he watched me, his bottom lip occupied between his teeth and his eyes on the brink of closing.
He was getting close again. So I stopped, pulling off of him with a soft pop and smiling as I crawled up his body and planted a kiss to his cheek. My legs straddled his hips, and I got close to his ear.
"Tell me, what about this... other girl you went on a date with... Did you sleep with her?"
"Um... Y—yes..."
"I'm willing to bet she didn't make you feel half as good as I do..."
"She didn't..."
I smiled against his jaw, bringing one of my hands to stroke his hair. "Was she mean to you? Did she make you her dirty little whore?"
I could feel him let out a trembling breath as he answered, "No."
"That's right," I said softly, right before switching gears and tugging on his hair, pulling back to look in his eyes. "Because you're my dirty little whore."
His cock twitched along my ass at my words, and it made me smile. But before I could speak again, he did it first.
"I'm all yours, Y/N... No one else's..."
I couldn't help it then. His words, our position, the needy look in his eyes as he confessed this to me... All of it was enough to make me snap.
So I leaned in and kissed him, hard. My hands tangled in his hair while his flew to my waist, sliding down to play with the hem of my underwear as his tongue slipped into my mouth and against my own with ease. I swallowed each whine with the greatest pleasure, my hips involuntarily grinding down and spreading the evidence of my arousal along the fabric of my panties. I wondered then if he could feel how wet I was, how much I wanted him.
I didn't have to wonder for long though, because he slipped one of his hands around front and dipped into said fabric, finding how wet I was and groaning into my mouth at the feel of it.
"You've been dying to get another try at this pussy, haven't you?" I whispered into his mouth.
Unsurprisingly, I was met with a whine in return. "Uh huh... I missed you so much..."
I ground down into his hand, nipping at his lips a little before giving my next demand.
"Then prove it."
Rather than fingering me like I expected him to, Spencer rolled over and straddled my legs, tearing my panties down and leaving me with a smile.
"I love the confidence you've grown, baby boy... Proves how dedicated you are... to being the best little slut you can be."
"Yes, Y/N," he responded, leaning down and kissing the inside of my thigh. "I wanna be good for you... Let me show you, please..."
"Show me..."
His tongue came in contact with my pussy, and it immediately sent my head flying back into the pillows, a low whine escaping my throat. He flicked it over my clit expertly a few times before going down and licking a broad strip up the entire area. Vibrations flittered along his path through his groans, and just hearing how much he enjoyed it had me clenching the sheets for stability.
"Ohh, what a good boy," I praised, bringing one of my hands to stroke his hair back. "Who's my good little whore?"
He grumbled into me, but I tugged at his hair.
"Say it."
He pulled away briefly then, still in contact with my pussy as he breathed out, "I'm your good little whore..." And then he promptly got back to work, devouring me with a hungry precision that made me laugh.
"Needy, too, I see... So desperate for that cunt..."
"Yes, " I heard him mumble into me. He repeated it a few more times, chanting it as his tongue flicked through me and tasted every last drop of my impending orgasm.
I sat up a little and held his head to me, his tongue moving at a quicker, more relentless pace. My stomach started to twist and my legs clenched, holding Spencer firmly between my legs as my hips rolled forward and met his every movement. Moans fell sweetly off my lips with every second, getting higher and higher until I finally held myself still and let the high take over. His tongue drew out one of the sharpest orgasms I'd ever had, the fervor he delivered making me see stars for a solid twenty to thirty seconds before it finally subsided and my muscles started to relax.
"Fuck," I breathed, almost whining when he removed his mouth from me and just kneeled there, studying my form as I tried to catch my breath. "Get up here," I asked more than demanded, though it might have been hard to tell what with my head spinning.
Spencer climbed over my body and I pulled his face down into a warm, wet kiss that had me tasting myself and growing wet again at the taste. I pulled away then, looking into his eyes and playing with his hair.
"I can't believe you didn't come see me sooner... Depriving me of that pretty fucking mouth..."
He kissed me again briefly, whining into my mouth before I continued. "But no... You were busy going on dates..."
"I'm sorry, Y/N," he said, kissing my cheek softly, over and over as his lips made their way down to my neck. "I'm so sorry, I... I wanted to see you, I just..."
"I know, I know," I cooed, closing my eyes and relishing in the feel of his lips on my skin. "But tonight you're gonna make up for lost time, got it?"
"Yes... Yes, I'll do whatever you want..."
I hummed, bringing his head back up to meet his gaze, and my thumb stroked over his bottom lip. "I want you to put that pretty cock to good use and fuck me like the desperate little slut I know you are..."
I kissed him then, gasping out once he shifted his hips and entered me slowly— I knew he was going to get to it quickly, but I guess I'd underestimated his need to please me.
The sentiment had me curling with want, more of it coming when he bottomed out inside me and trembled. Really, I could feel him shaking as he started to pull out and then back in, setting a steady pace that would surely become more erratic once I started talking to him again.
"Shit..." Spencer cursed, shifting up on his arms for more leverage as he steadily drilled into me. "I m—missed this... Missed you..."
"I know, baby, I know... I missed you, too... And you know what else?"
I drifted one of my hands down in between us, spreading out my fingers so that his cock fit nicely between them as he fucked me. The added friction of my fingers had him whining out, dropping his head down so that his ear was right by my mouth.
I whispered. "So did my pussy... So you better fuck her good..."
The sudden brutal velocity in which he slammed his hips against mine felt like a strike of lightning, and the loud groan he let out against my neck was the thunder. Everything shifted then, Spencer lifting himself up and holding onto my legs as he drilled into me at full force, his body glistening with exertion and my own succumbing to his wind.
"Yeah, that's it," I cooed through a laugh of pure pride. "That's a good fucking whore... Giving me that cock like I own it..."
"Y—You... do," he stuttered through a broken whine. He was getting close again, and I knew just the thing to do the trick.
I reached my hand up to hold his neck, not applying any pressure, but just holding as I forced his eyes down to look at me. "That's right... That slutty cock is mine... Now give it to me..."
The end of my sentence was punctuated with a sharp cry out as another orgasm tore through me. I shouted Spencer's name into the abyss as He fucked me through it and started twitching inside me, signaling his end as well. And the added warmth from his cum as it coated my insides well and truly marked me as his, despite the words we'd just exchanged.
I belonged to him just as much as he did to me, and I wondered if he knew that. If he knew just how much he inhabited my every thought.
I wanted him to know that I was practically infatuated with him.
But that conversation could wait until after we were... settled down.
He was still inside me as he slumped forward, laying his head on my chest and rubbing lines into my forearm.
"You okay?" I asked gently, combing through his hair with my fingers.
"Most definitely... Just... tired."
I smiled, leaning down and pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead. "You're welcome to stay here for the night..."
He was silent for a long while, almost so long that I thought he'd actually fallen asleep. But then he said, "Right here? With you?" and my heart soared.
"Of course."
Truthfully, I'd have let him stay forever.
But when I opened my eyes the next morning, the other side of the bed was cold, and his body was nowhere to be found.
***
Dear Y/N,
I'm sorry for leaving you alone last week. I know you must be a little hurt and confused, but if you aren't, then just forget I ever said anything.
Nonetheless, I regretted leaving you behind last time without at the very least sending you a letter, so I hope this one finds you well. After all, you have shown me experiences I never could have imagined enjoying as much as I did, so I should thank you for that.
But that's not all that this letter is for.
I also want to invite you out to dinner some time. I know this might be a little unconventional, but given how we met and also how we reunited, I figured this would be a fun, romantic way to ask you out. I understand if you don't feel that way given that I've more or less abandoned you twice now, but I promise it was all for good reason.
If you'd like to talk more, about anything I've disclosed in this letter, I've attached my phone number below, otherwise I'd love to hear back from you. I know this sounds strange, but I've been dying to know what your handwriting looks like. I bet it's pretty, like you.
Once again, I am truly sorry for leaving you behind without a word, but I want a chance to make it up to you. Please say you'll reach out. Otherwise, I know where to find you if you'd rather I make some cheesy romantic comedy—esque gesture of affection that either makes you fall in love with me or hate me.
Yours, Spencer Reid

can we get a fratboy Jimin and good girl oc with pinning from both sides 👀 ahhhh thank u in advance love ur writing!!
cherry king
drabble week: day four
drabble week masterlist
pairing: fratboy!jimin x goody two-shoes!reader
wordcount: 3k
glimpse: "y-you uhm, you-? y'know, you like... doing that? is that why it's your nickname?"
feedback + support mean the world to me!!
“next!”
great!! the line’s moving :D
that’s only like the 87th time jimin has heard the word next and it makes him wonder how much more would it take him to bring him to the front
(it’s actually only been 14 times and jimin might just be a self-admitted impatient bitch!!!)
he understands that yes, it’s ten in the evening!!! and reasonably-large stores/pharmacies like these can have less staff at the time compared to ten in the morning
sure, checkout machines and cashier lanes could be broken down!! or they could just not be open at all
jimin gets that alright, maybe the self-checkout machines are close at this time of the night because it is ten in the evening
what’s not clicking in his mind, however is that at the exact time that he comes here
as in the EXACT time that he’s here (!!!) — there happens to be dozens of people in a store at ten in the evening, and there happens to be a grand total of one (1) cashier lane
atleast random store music would be entertaining :((( all he hears are the beeps of a scanner and the chatter of groups of people who came here
jimin was eavesdropping on some guys in front of him and he wAS invested but lmao turns they were just discussing the plot of die hard or any testosterone-jacked movie like it
he’s also tried looking at the smaller middle-aged woman’s phone in front of him who’s scrolling through her facebook feed, but quickly decides against continuing it
because what if u could see his face and when she turns it off, she’d see a college guy deeply-invested in the baloney article she was reading about how subway sandwiches are the work of the devil
so uh yeah he’s just looking everywhere besides the front, back, and the sides of him and in all angles basically
he’s,,,,, aimlessly scrolling through his instagram feed he’s already scrolled through tHREE times and his explore’s page a little too dry
it’s a good thing that jimin’s entirely sure he’s the nosiest person out of this line and no one else is trying to figure him out
might be wrong though
“cherry king?”
hold the fuck on
jimin’s eyes widen, head snapping up and clueless to the fact that he doesn’t look discreet at all, and his head-cocking’s the most movement he’s done the whole time in this store
WHO’S SAYING HIS NICKNAME?????
it can’t be a coincidence either because as far as he’s concerned, there isn’t anything named cherry king that’s being sold here
there is literally NO other plausible scenario happening here besides the fact that someone who knows him is in the store!!!!
his gaze falls to the person behind him, brows knitted in confusion until it clicks
oh
that was you?
“jimin? huh, it really is you. i thought i was losing my mind for a second.”
“y/n?”
okay maybe hE’S the one who’s losing his mind here
he knows you!! you’re the smart girl in his year who’s known for being pristine and stuff!! you’re like the good-est girl he’s ever known and heard of
.... quick question lads is that weird to know someone by
“you could’ve just called me by my name, y’know,” jimin chuckles heartily, still a little dumbfounded to see you here but he’s grateful for the interaction nonetheless
you look casual today?? like you still look like yourself but everyone else would think it’s an out-of-body experience to see you out of your pretty dresses and monochromatic get-ups
it’s you..,.. in a hoodie three sizes larger than your size with your pristine shoes traded in for socked-feet wearing slides
jimin thinks that you look like grace under pressure
“i wasn’t sure,” you smile right back and it’s the first time he realizes that there’s glasses atop your nosebridge, softening your image more from the usual composed look you carried
“how were you sure enough to say my nickname out-loud though?”
jimin questions you, bringing light to how he’s wearing a plain white shirt and is looking as relaxed as ever with how he’s dressed — his hair long enough to be put into a messy sprout of a bun
you clear your throat, the amusement bubbling in your scratchy throat
“you have yourself as your lockscreen, jimin.”
oh my gOD
he winces when you say it, eyes screwing shut in embarrassment that he whines in pain with how direct you put it
“n-no way — fuck you respectfully, y/n. i-i’m not- i’m changing it right now!!”
does he look the vainest person alive rn
the way he has a mini freakout entertains you to your core, giggles unable to be suppressed as he finds the latest-taken picture he has of dogs that he comes across with
that’s 10/10 an experience he doesn’t want to repeat again
“it’s okay. i won’t tell anyone.”
he hears you reassure and he believes you, a flustered blush on his cheek still as he coughs to make up for a diversion topic he couldn’t think of
frankly, you’re getting bored too and jimin’s the only form of entertainment you have because using your phone atm would be too disorienting
“what are you doing here, by the way?”
your head tilts in query and he’s relieved that you address something else, not being relieved seconds later when he realizes his answer
“just a little supply run for our frat. we weren’t supposed to run out of things for three more days, so this is just a lil emergency haul for awhile.”
you nod in understanding, glancing down at his basket and uh
uhm 1/4 of the space is literally occupied by boxes of condoms
....
......
jimin’s confused to why you turn silent, thinking that he must’ve gotten boring to continue talking to until he follows your gaze to his basket
NO WAY?!]>|>]%%[%]%]
“i-it’s not l-like that!!!” he crouches and immediately gets the food and the bottles of shampoo and conditioner to bury the condoms in the bottom of the pile, attractively getting more attention from you who’s ready to let it go
“i-it’s not — it’s ours — n-no!! t-they just gave me a list and i just put it because it’s on the list b-but like it wasn’t my-...”
how many more times will the universe fuck jimin up in front of the person he has a lil happy crush on
you only smile meekly, tilting your head and he thinks this is the part where you tell him how much of a douche he is
"y-you uhm, you-? y'know, you like... doing that? is that why it's your nickname?"
:O
“t-that?” jimin clarified albeit confused, thinking back to his nickname as he tries to rapidly connect the dots to not look like a fool
cherry king? that?? what do you-
WAIT WHAT
“nO!! o-of course not!!”
he almost shrieks and his voice sounds ultimately defensive, shaking his head no
why does he look so frantic
“hey, hey, i believe you! — calm down, jimin. you don’t have to explain anything to me.”
whew
fuck
but he argues that it iS the truth though!!!
but why won’t you just ask him why he’s called cherry king though >:(
you’re already content with the silence after the conversation but he isn’t, still wanting more
is it so bad that he wants redemption D:
“how about you? what are you doing here?”
you don’t answer instantly and it’s because you’re nudging jimin to continually walk, the cashier looking much more visible now as he’s nearer in line
he takes a look at the handful of things that’s in your basket —
electrolytes, hot pockets, soup, cup noodles and fever patches...?
“oh. i think i’m running a fever.”
what???
what are you doing here aLONE if you think you’re running a fever???
he’s not gonna lie about the fact that you don’t look too good
what if you pass out and no one’s there for you and all the graveyard shift employees do is put a wet floor sign around your figure???
“y/n?? what are you doing here alone then?? are you oUT of your mind??”
the panic in jimin’s voice is clear as day and you’re a little startled, instead responding to tapping him on the shoulder to point that he’s already the one on the cashier
what he does is grab your basket before he is, putting it in front of the conveyor belt because he couldn’t even wait for it to roll out
“i said i think i’m running a fever.”
jimin stops from simultaneously rummaging for his rewards card and putting his items on the counter to unceremoniously drop the box of condoms down jUST to put his hand on your forehead
“you are.”
you surely don’t think low of jimin but you can’t help be surprised either at his concern for you when this is the only time you’ve had a conversation with him!!!
“you drove here?” he asks in seriousness, sending you a look while waiting for the total amount
“walked. the airconditioning makes me even more sick,” you answer with no fuss because even thinking about car fresheners while you’re sporting a fever makes you want to gag. “let me-...”
jimin already pays for both your items in cash, getting them bagged separately as he’s not gonna take no for an answer for what he’s gonna propose next
“then i’ll keep the windows down. i’ll drive you back to your dorm.”
he grabs both your bags in one hand and uses the other to beckon you over, holding you still because it’s dark out and a fever vision wouldn’t exactly help
it’s only when he straps you in and (true to his word) puts the windows down and starts his car that you start asking
“why are you doing this for me?”
why IS he doing this for you??
jimin thinks about his answer in a second
“would you do the same for me?”
well
if you were in front of him at a godforsaken line, had yourself as your lockscreen, realize that jimin’s behind you with a fever and is by himself in a store at 10 in the evening
“of course i would.”
jimin smiles, steering away from his parking spot
“then i would too.”
( ♡ )
maybe you’re thinking of jimin
no wait you’re dEFINITELY thinking of jimin
you’re much better now and your fever’s already subsided enough for you to go back to class!!!
the whole interaction with him was three days ago and maybe your head is just full of him at this point
“are you sure you’re okay to handle this by yourself??”
jimin worries when he drops your bag to your hands, briefly coming inside your dorm to set it down
“mhmm. i’ll just sleep it out.”
“i think if you’re missing a couple of steps.”
you snort as his paranoid features, waving him off. “i’ll eat. then go to the bathroom. and then sleep.”
okay good enough
“what if this just-“ jimin trails off, his expansive mind suddenly running as he points to your chest, “stops????”
cute
“i have a smart watch.”
“would you put me as one of the emergency contacts? please?”
he’s making you take down his number without malice because jeez he’s gENUINELY worried!!!!
it may not always be great sharing a house with his frat brothers, but he knows that if he has a fever, atleast half of them would dote over him and you have atleast one who would go into hysterics!!! it’e a full package!!
“i’ll be okay, jimin. i’ll call you when i need someone to hand me my puke bucket.”
“please do. i’m not even kidding. get better now because i miss your dresses.”
o_O
uhm
“n-no i meant your usual style!! wait, not that there’s anything wrong w-with your style right now. i-i was-...”
“yeah. i miss them too. now go home, jimin.”
“you sure?”
u never really had the impulse to invite a guy to go inside your place but maybe now you do
“mhmm. drive safe.”
okay
:-)
“good night, y/n. call me whenever.”
classes were a bit rough today because you’re still easing yourself on getting back to the groove of things, but it was tolerable!!!
you’re getting your key out of your backpack when a lock clicks open a couple doors away from you, the hinge noisily squeaking
it’s jimin who leaves it, with seri who’s the actual occupant of the dorm leaning on the doorframe
“y/n—!”
he squeaks the moment his eyes land on you
your hand automatically waves, the same meek smile for him to see
“jimin.”
( ♡ )
the last interaction you had with him is still on jimin’s mind, a whole week later
it’s been bothering him recently that you know what it looks like the last time around!!!! but he could swear up and down that it wasn’t
he just feels this great urge to explain even if you haven’t asked
“oh. so we have to move out for the time-being?”
jimin clarifies with namjoon, the head of the frat, and he’s met with a solemn nod
it makes sense!!!
the house got checked today and there were mULTIPLE fire hazards!!! and it needs to be fumigated anyway under new campus protocol so it indeed makes sense
practically everyone's going home because it’s a long weekend anyway because of a holiday
and he’s not sure if he wants to take the same route.
“hi.”
jimin squeaks the moment you open your door, surprise evident on your face but not shock to the point you’d close the door on him
“jimin?”
okay maybe he’s gonna go straight to explaining
“frat house needed to be closed because of some complications, and it wouldn’t be open to us for another three days. most of the guys are coming home,” jimin clears his throat, his head down while he shyly scratches the back of his ear, “i have one, but i’m not sure if i wanna.”
oh
it’s that problem
it takes one, two seconds before it all registers in your head, nodding surely
“you can take my bed. i’ll take the couch, it’s a pull-out anyways.”
you open the door for him widely and the only thing you ask if he’s had dinner and if he’d like some
god you’re really throwing him in a loop here
it’s after a batch of your cooking that jimin’s only ache is why you were the way that you were, half-dazed the whole time he’s met you properly
“why do you never ask me?”
“hmm?” you hum as you dry the dishes that you’ve used, wanting to get it done as soon as possible so your full attention would be on him
no, actually. jimin WANTS you to pry!!
he wants you to worm your way into his privacy and into the confines of his mind
but it seems like you’ve already did without even asking.
“ask me why i’m called the cherry king.”
you tilt your head in confusion, that time playing in your head of why jimin looked confused when you didn’t continue to ask further
maybe you’ll indulge him
“why are you called the cherry king?”
jimin smiles, leaning to your couch with his arms relaxed
“we did secret santa for christmas at our frat house. taehyung thought it would be nice if he pranked me by gifting me a jar full of cherries, but i thought that was his actual gift, and i liked it to the point that i finished it in one sitting.”
tHAT’S ACTUALLY PRETTY ENDEARING
cute, even
“ask me why i came out of seri’s apartment last week.”
oh that’s.,.,. that’s a bit higher in level compared to nicknames
“why did you come out of seri’s apartment last week?”
“because seri’s the ex-girlfriend of hoseok, my frat brother, and he wanted me to return all her stuff because he doesn’t want to be reminded of his cheating ex.”
well that was definitely weighted
jimin plays with the hem of his shirt, the words tumbling out of his mouth
“ask me why i love you.”
why do you wHAT
your mouth drops open, the new position you took on the other end of the couch taking an impact on him
“w-why do you love me?”
jimin’s a lot of things but he’s not drunk tonight
he doesn’t know why he’s letting his feelings slip either, but it’s the bottomless need that he feels when he’s around you
“i feel wanted. i feel needed.”
he smiles cheerfully even if he feels shy dropping this on you all of a sudden
“not sure if you want me nor need me, but i feel welcome with you if that makes sense.”
:)
“you just make me feel loved, i guess.”
jimin looks at you for the first time since he’s opened his mouth, an equally fond look on your face
you said no words but what jimin receives is a gentle tug, your hand on the side of his face until he’s leaning on your shoulder
“i wanna know what's up there.”
he points a finger to your temple, an amused lilt to his tone, “surprise me.”
it’s an unfolding of things that was weeks in the making but months in developing, the distant glances leading you to recognize jimin in the shop in the first place
“i feel the exact same with you,” you answer honestly and it makes his laugh from his chest, his cheeks warm and his heart content
and you just wanna suspend yourselves in this moment forever
“oh! and if i were to lose my virginity to anyone at the moment, it'd be you!!”
...
....
jimin swats at your shoulder to which you only giggle at, a toothy smile on display as this is the warmest he’s ever felt
“i wasn’t kidding!!!”
you yawn when you defend yourself, predicting that you’d fall asleep sooner or later on the couch, but for the time-being, you just stroke jimin’s hair to soothe the both of you
jimin is now the furthest thing from sleepy
"what? you told me to surprise you!!"

4) Mine | Explicit | 1979 words
"So you been single for a while now?" Louis gulped as the vibrator slowed down sending a thankful look to Harry before glancing back at the interview who was looking at him with great interest,
"Uhhh yeah," he replied keeping his answer short and brief. He straightened his back shuffling slightly on his chair as the vibrator shifted inside of him hitting his prostate causing him to let out a small gasp as grimaced at the interviewer who just grinned back. She must be an excellent actress or just stupidly oblivious.

Where it's their first time and Harry is being all fluffy and encouraging Louis to say his name and other dirty stuff?
6) Salvation Under My Breath | Not Rated | 2858 words
Louis is pregnant...
...and Horny
7) The Sight of You Brings Forth a Peace In Me | Mature | 3254 words
Louis loses inspiration and goes on a nature walk to find some. The inspiration takes shape in the form of Harry.
8) Put Your Sweet Lips On My Lips | Explicit | 3435 words
Note: Part one of this fic is #23 on this list.
Adjusting to one another’s life came as naturally as the sun rising in the morning and brightening the sky, chasing away the darkness that had dared to lurk in its absence. They did not side step each other, did not second guess their instincts once they were finally together. It was the crash of roaring waves - reckless in their paths - but upon meeting had unified into calm waters in the vast sea.
Living with Harry was like a breath of fresh air. In all his years, Louis had never felt alive. He supposed there was some credit to be given to how devoted Harry was to him. The man would rather step in a raging fire than let him suffer even a trace amount of agony.
9) Fuck U (Even) Betta | Explicit | 3568 words
Note: This is the sequel to this fic.
Harry had sensed Louis was getting antsy all day, prodding and poking at Harry’s psyche like a game of mental whack-a-mole, trying to find that one thing that would flip the switch and push Harry over the edge. Even after all these years Louis still thinks he can get a rise, that he can in any way control the scenario. He couldn’t be more wrong.
10) We Act Like Nothing Is Wrong To Avoid What’s In Front of Us | Mature | 4179 words
Louis sends nudes meant for Harry to the wrong person on accident. Harry finds out. Rough sex ensues.
11) Love's First Bite | Explicit | 6135 words
Note: The pairing in this fic is Louis/Zayn.
For Zayn, love was never a part of life’s equation, not when you’re considered a lowly vampire while working in the Vampire’s royalty club, Love’s First Bite. He’s bitter and resentful and sees no point in looking into his past or future. But when Zayn saves a human named Louis, it all changes. He finds something special in him and, more importantly, someone worth giving up everything he holds dear.
12) Your Blueberry Eyes | Mature | 6154 words
Louis tattoos and Harry falls for blues.
13) Blow Me Away | Explicit | 6471 words
Louis likes giving blow jobs.
He doesn't exactly get off on it – he's been with people who properly loved it, and he's not quite that into it – but he doesn't mind the feel or the taste and he really, really likes watching his partner lose it, so getting down on his knees regularly is a no brainer.
Which is why it's a bit frustrating that every time he does, Liam hauls him back up again.
14) Thank You For This Prom Night | Not Rated | 6554 words
Note: This is part 3 of this series.
It's Prom Night. Stuff happens.
15) Can We Make It Anymore Obvious? | Explicit | 6628 words
Five times the boys accidentally walked in on Harry & Louis plus one time they did it on purpose.
16) It's The Way You Love (I Gotta Give It Back To You) | Explicit | 8153 words
Stretching, Louis finally pulled the duvet aside and let his feet fall onto the plush rug at his feet. Louis lived for soft, comfortable, plush things. From the fairy lights and fake plants to his plush robe and thick socks, everything in Louis’ little one bedroom apartment was carefully catered to his whimsical and soft aesthetic.
17) My Eyes Want You More Than A Melody | Explicit | 8315 words
Harry’s brain is short-circuiting at an absolutely awful time, the more expressive side of him is falling to pieces for some reason. The only responses he can give are venerated vibrations and nods, the feeling of Louis’ sweaty skin sliping him further into nothingness. Lightly dewy thighs, so muscular and plush— his lips feel just the same, so dangerously soft, a devious intention lying behind it all. “You’d do anything for me,” Louis mumbles, teeth tugging on Harry’s bottom lip, eyes dragging from his sinfully pink mouth when he lets it go to his hooded green eyes. “Isn't that right, daddy?” Harry whimpers— something that’s so foreign to him— but nods, trailing his hands up his shaved thighs, fingertips passing the hem of the dress.
18) Running Is Different Than Going | Explicit | 9018 words
Note: The pairing is Louis/OMC.
On the run, the last thing Michael expects from a stranger is help. Louis offers him everything he needs so he can keep running, but makes it harder than ever to continue doing so.
19) Quarantine, Baby! | Teen & Up | 9615 words
Note: There is no smut, but it contains mpreg Louis, so we’ve included it in this monthly roundup.
When Harry and Louis get a little too bored in quarantine, they turn to each other for some x-rated entertainment. Then, what starts as a COVID-scare, turns out to be something completely different.
20) Effervescent Horizons | Not Rated | 10676 words
Note: This is part 6 of this series. There is also no smut, but it contains mentions of bottom Louis, so we’ve included it in this monthly roundup.
They go to college together!
21) Moments | Explicit | 10726 words
Looking back, Louis should’ve known that the universe likes to fuck with idiots like him who think they’ve got it all sorted.
Looking back, he should’ve known that the minute he relaxed and let his guard down, when he thought things were going smoothly, that’s when it would hit him.
Looking back, he should’ve known to be on the lookout for a curveball.
He just hadn’t accounted for that curveball to have long legs, green eyes, and dimples; a curveball named Harry Styles.
22) The Blood Is Rare (And Sweet As Cherry Wine) | Explicit | 14270 words
Note: The sequel to this fic is #8 on this list.
"Officer, I see you're giving away my secrets already," Harry said as he entered the room.
"It's hardly a secret," Louis accepted the delicate glass, cutting a glance at the man when the underlying scent hit him, "A little early to indulge in such things, isn't it?"
"You've had a long morning, I'm sure. Merely looking after your health, Officer," Harry smiled.
"You don't need to concern yourself with that."
"Someone has to."
23) Violent Delights | Not Rated | 76174 words
Prince Harry is arranged to mate Princess Charlotte, but first he must spend a month completing courting traditions which ends in a mating ceremony. When he arrives to the Tomlinson castle, he finds the forbidden North wing holds that which the family has worked hard to keep secret. Mainly: the sickly sweet Prince Louis, who’s rare gender has forced his family to keep him locked away for his own protection.
24) Truth Behind Golden Eyes | Explicit | 228727 words
Louis is a royal servant born with magic in a kingdom where his sole existence is outlawed with a war he has no idea he has a part in upon him. The Great Academia Road Trip, Part 1 (My Hero Academia)
Primary Universe
Summary: Class 1-A (plus Shinsou) is going on a road trip! In this first installment, Bakugou contemplates how he's going to get Deku back for cornering him before, having a little fun with the nerd along the way.
A/N: Welcome to the first official mini-series within the Primary Universe! I was hoping to do this more in the middle of summer than towards the end, but better late than never! I hope you enjoy taking a road trip with the students of Class 1-A - with plenty of tickling included! ^^
Shoutout to @ticklishscumbag for the "Bakugou loves strawberry milk" headcanon that is briefly referenced here.
Word Count: 1,796
**SPOILER ALERT:** This fic contains spoilers from Season 5 of the anime. (Below the cut.)
~~~
The door to Bakugou’s dorm room slammed open.
“Road trip!”
“What the—?!” Bakugou yelled, instinctively shoving his covers off and scrambling to his feet, heart racing from the anticipation of an oncoming battle. When he saw it was just Kirishima, he clutched his chest and yelled, “Kiri, you idiot! You gave me a heart attack!”
“Forget that,” Kiri replied easily, bounding inside with a huge grin on his face. “It’s road trip time! Where’s your bag? You packed it already, right?”
“Freakin’ – yeah, it’s over there.” The blonde gestured to his closet. “God dang, Kirishima.”
Kiri laughed, punching him lightly in the shoulder. “Sorry, dude. I’m just so excited, and we’re leaving in less than an hour! How could you still be asleep? Get dressed! Eat some breakfast! We’re gonna hit the rooooad!”
Bakugou grumbled as he shoved Kirishima back out his door, barely registering that his friend had grabbed his bag on his way out. Still, he couldn’t help but smile once he was alone. Today was the day. Their entire class – along with Shinsou, who would be entering the hero course next year – were taking a month-long trip around the country as both part of their training and as a vacation. Officially, they were touring the different prefectures and meeting the top heroes across the nation, learning how things worked in different places and sometimes even helping out if needed. Unofficially, they were getting away from the stress of school and the League of Villains for a while, making stops at popular tourist locations and having some down time to balance out the work they’d still be doing.
No rest for the weary, but honestly, Bakugou was looking forward to this trip just as much as Kirishima and the rest of the class were. He couldn’t wait to meet pro heroes in other prefectures, beat up some bad guys, and take a dip in the pool at the end of their long days. It was going to be great.
But first, he had to get dressed.
*
Downstairs, the entire dorm was alive with activity. It seemed everyone was either finishing up breakfast or hauling their gear out to the bus that was already waiting outside. Bakugou made a mental note to ask Kiri if he’d actually gotten his luggage all the way out there before they left. In the meantime, he headed to the fridge, hoping Sato hadn’t taken the last strawberry milk.
It was still there. He grinned, grabbed it, and twisted open the cap.
Just beyond his hearing range in the living room stood Iida, Kaminari, Ojiro, Shinsou, and stupid Deku. Bakugou narrowed his eyes. He still hadn’t gotten the nerd back for tickling him to death while he was trapped under his bed last week. He was rather looking forward to finding ways to mess with him on this trip in retaliation.
“Baku-bro!” Sero said by way of greeting, slapping him on the back. “Good morning! Ready to go?”
“Yeah, sure.” Bakugou took a swig of strawberry milk, savoring the flavor, trying not to let it show how much he loved it. “Where’s Kiri?”
“Probably taking Mina’s bag out to the bus. He already grabbed mine and his own.”
“Mine, too.”
Sero laughed. “He’s pretty excited.”
“Yeah, well…” Bakugou shrugged. “It’s a good opportunity.”
“I take it that means you’re excited, too? Good! It wouldn’t be any fun if you were a grump the whole time. Though we have ways of making you cheer up nowadays, don’t we?” Sero winked, nudged him, and moved on to the next person, greeting them enthusiastically as he made his way to the front door.
Bakugou scowled. He supposed he would have been stupid to think he’d get a break from his own torture just because they were on a tour of the country. Oh, well. As long as no one else found out, he’d survive.
He took another drink just as Deku suddenly broke away from his group and hurried past him toward his own dorm room.
Must have left some All Might backpack or something, he thought, grunting. Stupid nerd.
*
Somehow, despite the fact that it was obvious the two of them didn’t get along, Bakugou wound up seated next to Shinsou right in the middle of the bus. Kaminari had practically shoved him into the taller boy’s lap, much to both of their annoyance.
“Bakugou,” Shinsou greeted coolly, polite but not much more than that.
The blonde bit his tongue to resist calling him a mind-reader again. “Shinsou.”
After that, the two lapsed into silence as the bus finished loading, pulled out of the school grounds, and made its way onto the highway.
It was a long, grueling twenty minutes before Bakugou finally sighed angrily and got up, turning on his heel to stride toward the back of the bus to where Kiri and Deku were sharing a seat.
He interrupted their conversation without an apology. “Deku, switch with me.”
Deku blinked. “What?”
“Swap seats with me. You’re friends with that freak from 1-C, right?”
“He’s not a freak. And yes, we’re friends.”
“Then swap with me. I don’t want to be near him.”
Kirishima gave him a withering look. “You’ll have to get used to having him around sooner or later. When he joins the hero course, there’s a fifty percent chance he’ll be in our class.”
“Doesn’t mean I have to like him.”
Deku poked his head up over the seat in front of him, glancing to where Shinsou now sat alone. He stood to do as Bakugou asked, but before he could even get a step down the aisle, Kirishima shot out in front of him, declaring, “I’ll sit with him! I never get to talk to the guy.”
“Wait – I don’t want to sit with stupid Deku, either!” Bakugou yelled. “What are you doing?”
Kiri turned back to him. “It’s Shinsou or Midoriya. Take your pick.”
Bakugou gritted his teeth, growled, and shoved Deku down into the seat he’d just vacated. “Fine. Move over, nerd.”
Deku smiled, scooting over to the window seat to allow the blonde to sit with him while Kiri moved up to join Shinsou.
More silence.
“You’re not going to make it, you know,” Bakugou said at last, crossing his arms.
Deku startled. “What?”
“To the end of the trip. You won’t make it back.”
“Why?”
“Because you declared war, idiot. And I’m not going to lose to you.”
The greenette was silent for a long moment, seeming lost. Then it clicked, and his face brightened. “Yeah? Well, I’m not losing to you, either. So where does that leave us?”
“With you begging me for mercy.”
“Or you begging me.”
“Never.”
Deku smirked, then glanced out the window at the passing scenery. Bakugou smirked, too. This was going to be an interesting road trip for the both of them.
*
Several hours later – after they’d arrived at their first destination, unloaded, trained, had dinner, and were wrapping up for the day – Bakugou stood just inside the door of the four-person room he was sharing with Kirishima, Tokoyami, and Shoji, waiting patiently. Any minute now, Deku would pop into the hall on his way to the shared bathroom to clean up before bed, and he’d pass Bakugou’s room on his way to do so. It was just a matter of time now.
There he was.
Bakugou reached into the hall, grabbing Deku by the back of his shirt and pulling him into the currently empty room, throwing him onto a bedroll. Then he pounced, climbing on top of him and digging his fingers into his sides, ribs, and underarms in rapid succession.
Deku burst into hysterical giggles, shocked and confused for just a moment before his brain caught up to what his body was feeling. “Ahahahahahahaha Kacchan! Nahahahahahahaha!”
“So about this tickle war you’ve so stupidly decided to start with me, nerd.” Bakugou spoke casually, though he smirked at his friend’s useless attempts to get away. “How do we know who’s won? Begging for mercy doesn’t seem like enough, since I get you to do that anyway during our normal tickle fights.”
“I-I mahahahahahake you beheheheheg, too!” Deku protested, earning a sharp jab into his hip bone for his trouble. He squealed and laughed. “NOHOHOHOHOHOHO!!”
“Like I was saying, I don’t think it’s enough to end a tickle war. What exactly was your plan going into this?”
“I dohohohohohohon’t knohohohohohow!” Deku writhed on the ground, smiling wide and pushing at Bakugou’s hands weakly. “I dihihihihidn’t thihihihihihihink about it!”
“Well, think now.”
“I cahahahahahahahan’t! Y-You’re distrahahahahacting me!”
Bakugou hummed, swinging a leg over to straddle Deku and reach up into his underarms, drawing out a fresh burst of laughter and kicking. “Better come up with some excuse.”
“NAHAHAHAHAHAHA KACCHAHAHAHAHAHAN!!”
“Is it because you can never beat me on your own? You’ve got to use furniture to help you come out on top?” Bakugou half-mocked, half-teased. “Is that why you decided it was smart to challenge me like that?”
“IT WAS JUHUHUHUHUHUST – JUST AN OPP-P-PFFAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!” Deku tossed his head back and laughed freely, still trying to push Bakugou away with whatever strength he had left after the long day and the surprise tickle attack. “STAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!!”
“Opportunity? Is that what you were trying to say?”
“YEHEHEHEHEHEHES!!”
“Interesting. An opportunity to come after me while I was completely helpless, right?” Bakugou left his underarms at last, trailing back down to his sides and belly. “Because that’s the only way you can really win against me.”
“P-Plehehehehehease,” Deku whined, looking up at him with mirthful but tired eyes. “Lehehehet me gohohohoho, Kacchan…”
Bakugou thought a moment, then relented entirely, grabbing Deku’s wrists and pinning them down by his head, looming over him. “I’ll let you go for now, nerd, since the others will be back soon. But you’d better start watching your back extra closely from now on, because when I catch you, I will not show mercy until you’re pleading for it.”
Deku’s eyes widened, but he nodded, and Bakugou released him and stood up just as Tokoyami returned from the bathroom.
“Midoriya,” he said, “I’m fairly certain sleepovers are not allowed.”
“Oh, n-no, I was just…” Deku trailed off, then laughed and got to his feet. “Ah, never mind. I’ve still got to get ready for bed. Night, guys!” And he hurried out of the room, waving as he went.
Tokoyami turned to Bakugou. “Why was Midoriya here?”
Bakugou scoffed. “Stupid nerd wanted to get his butt handed to him, that’s what.” The blonde flopped onto his own bedroll and turned toward the wall, facing away from Tokoyami and the door.
“All right, then…” Tokoyami muttered, then went blissfully silent.
Bakugou grinned at the wall.
This was going to be the best road trip ever.
Our Song (Alyssa Naeher x Reader)
Request: alyssa naehex reader thats set during quarantine w/ “Shy” by Alexander Stewart. I just kind of think it’s cute since she’s an introvert and that it would be fitting
Author’s Note: Speical Thanks To @literaryhedgehog
Alyssa knew she should just say it, that admitting it out loud would finally put an end to this madness. She ran a soothing hand through your hair when you sniffled loudly into her chest.
God, she should just tell you how she felt. But, she also didn’t want to overstep. That would make being roommates really awkward. Especially since neither of you were supposed to leave the apartment right now except for essential purchases. And she didn’t want to lose her best friend. That would really suck.
But she wasn’t afraid to say what no one else would- you had a terrible taste when it came to partners. You chose people who didn’t value you, and you always ended up hurt.
This time was no different, well, it was slightly different considering you couldn’t leave your shared apartment to cope like you normally would. Alyssa didn’t know if that was better or worse, considering that you had adapted your breakup routine to just be endless cuddles with her and your favorite stuffed animal.
She had already spent the last hour making comforting noises. You had stopped shedding tears 15 minutes ago, so Alyssa decided it was time to go for some humor. “Hey, so now you and Taylor Swift have something in common!”
“Hmm” You hummed in acknowledgment, your eyes never leaving where Supergirl was playing on screen.
“Well, she was broken up with over text. You were broken up with over text. I think this is the perfect opportunity to listen to her re-recording of Fearless, and really channel those emotions!”
“No, Joe broke up with her in a 27-second phone call,” You lifted your head up off of her very comfortable chest to raise your eyebrow at the woman.
Alyssa was a great keeper, and amazing at crosswords, but she always needed your help when it came to Taylor trivia.
“Then Joe showed more consideration as an 18-year-old child than your 32 year old wanna be soccer star. It doesn’t change the fact that I think listening to Mr Perfectly Fine would be cathartic.”
“It’s kinda funny that she wrote Forever and Always, Mr. Perfectly fine, Better than Revenge and Holy Ground all about the same guy, they’re all so different from each other,” You mumbled, settling back down on her chest. At least she didn’t say that you had as many breakups as she did. That was a rude joke. (One Alyssa wouldn’t dare make. She was more cultured than the media asshats that chased your team around).
“Woman’s efficient,” Alyssa shrugged. “No reason why you can't recycle the same emotion into a different song genre.”
“At least she could make millions off her pain. All I seem to be able to do is kick the ball harder,” You grumbled. Your landlord complained about you practicing in the street because of how hard you sent the ball careening into his precious brick wall. It wasn’t your fault Alyssa was too slow to stop the PK.
“Darling, considering you’re one of the strongest kickers on the east coast, I’d say that pain is going to a worthwhile cause. But you do kind of have the worst taste in relationships.”
“Hey! Savannah wasn’t a bad choice, just bad timing,” You huffed indignantly.
“So that would be one out of…. How many bad relationships?”
“At least one for every Taylor Swift album,”
“Okay, here’s a fun idea, choose an ex for each album,” Alyssa said brightly. Thinking about music would definitely cheer you up. “Wannabe soccer star is obviously your Joe, so represents the Fearless album. Which relationship is your… Drew?”
“You already know the answer to that question,” you said, already picking up your phone to add Teardrops on my Guitar to the music queue. You then quickly added Forever and Always and started scrolling through Speak Now for the next song inspiration.
Alyssa nodded. It was a well-known fact that you had a massive crush on one Hope Solo growing up, and you had been absolutely enamored with her the second you set foot into camp. But Alyssa also knew that Hope was very faithful to a certain veteran.
The veteran keeper had tried to let you down easy, and Kelley was still one of your best friends, but it had hurt in the moment.
“Kristie was my Haunted,” you said, smiling slightly. Dating her felt like a whirlwind, one that took your breath until you never thought it would end. She made butterflies flutter in your stomach, and you were so desperate to say the right thing, to be the perfect partner, that you always felt like you were walking a tightrope. Floating on air, but desperate to keep your balance. “At least she had the decency to wait until we were in the same city to end it.”
“Aren’t the two of you friends now?” Alyssa looked down at you, watching as you scrolled through songs from your comfortable place on her chest.
You nodded with a small smile. “Hmm, we are much better off that way anyway.”
“I bet you I can guess who your We are Never Ever Getting Back Together person is,” Alyssa trilled, reaching down to take the phone.
You playfully snatched it away from her. “Who’s to say I wasn’t going to choose I knew you were trouble?” You raised your eyebrow at the woman, who simply smirked in response.
“I can tell you who that is too if you like,” Alyssa reached for her own phone and took over control of the speakers, adding both songs to the music queue.
“Alright, I’ll bite. Who?”
“You definitely knew Sam Kerr was trouble, and I think it took you 4 breakups with Leah to finally call it quits,”
“I was going to say Leah for 1989, it took me forever to realize how fucked up our relationship was after we finally broke up,”
“I’m sure the distance didn’t help.” With her in London and you in Chicago things just kind of fell apart.
“Maybe,” you hummed, noncommittally.
“Okay, so for Reputation. I’m thinking Don’t Blame Me,”
“You did go a bit crazy for Jane…” Alyssa said with a roll of her eyes. You had almost moved to Houston for that girl, thank god you didn’t. You sunburned like nobody's business.
“Oh come on. You just didn’t like the idea of me moving. And considering how long we had been dating at that point it did make sense!” You argued.
“It was 3 months Y/n,” She deadpanned.
“I was in a wlw relationship. That’s like practically three years, it’s not like I brought a u-haul to our first date.”
Alyssa quirked an eyebrow up at you. “Didn’t you have one of those the first time we met?”
“Yeah, because I wasn’t moving into my college apartment without any furniture!”
“Whatever you say, babe. Who's your Folklore?” She rolled her eyes goodnaturedly.
“I think you skipped an album,” you said. This was weird because Lover was one of Alyssa’s favorite albums. “But, since you asked. I think Kelley is The 1.”
“Ah, our favorite squirrel,” Alyssa’s lips ticked up. You and Kelley had dated in college (something that should have made her jealous), but Kelley was the one pushing her to admit her feelings now.
“We were just too young and dumb,” you said, smiling. “We had a great time together, and it would have been fun if it worked out. But at some point we just realized, we were friends, but there wasn’t anything romantic there.”
“I’m sorry it didn’t work out,” Alyssa said, like a liar.
“I’m not. Her and Emily are like made for each other,” You snorted with the shake of your head. “And at least she wasn’t afraid of the world knowing we were together,”
“Well, yeah,” Alyssa smiled. She had loved seeing the way being publicly out with Kelley had brought out the best of you. “ Okay moving on! Next, we need to narrow down your No body, No Crime.”
“I take offense. Alex is still alive, so that doesn’t count,” You huffed.
“I’m kidding! I’m kidding. I know you didn’t kill any of your significant others,” Alyssa said, laughing. “Though if you listened to the song you would know that’s my job… ”
“Alex was my Champagne Problems,” You mumbled sadly. That relationship had been the hardest for you, as had the breakup. She was terrified of the world even suspecting she wasn’t straight.
You had everything, except the freedom to be yourself, and In the end, you couldn’t take the hiding anymore.
“You did your best, love. But people come out at their own pace. And it was before Obergfell v. Hodges was decided. Being queer was still more likely to be presented as a scandal in the media then.”
“She cheated on me with Serv. She doesn’t get a pass,” You grumbled, crossing your arms.
“I’m pretty sure you were on a break dear,” Alyssa said, though she was inclined to agree with you. Being on a ‘break’ but not officially breaking up didn’t seem like a reason to start dating other people. Still getting over some of the semantics might theoretically help you move on. “BUT maybe we should move on. Who is your Lover?”
Your eyes squinted thoughtfully, a light pink shading your cheeks. “The only person who hasn’t ever left me is you. You let me leave the Christmas lights up until May and dance around the kitchen when you cook.”
Alyssa looked away, not able to meet your eyes. ”I mean, the lights can change color, so they can be thematic all year. And you’re the one who chooses the music to listen to while I cook. I can’t help it if they’re all great for dancing.”
“You can dance to anything. I’m pretty sure you turned a Hosier song into a salsa dance last week.” You giggled.
“The only person I dance with is you, Y/n,” Alyssa said, finally meeting your eyes. She could feel her body start shaking slightly, as the adrenaline kicked in. She was going to do it. She was going to tell you. “I don’t want to dance if I’m not dancing with you.”
“I’d dance with you in a storm in my best dress,”
“I have tried so hard to be supportive about your last several relationships. But seeing you dancing to your favorite song with anyone else… I’ve loved you for three years now and I couldn’t bear it.”
The air was suddenly charged between you, and you realized your faces were just inches apart. It was hard to breathe. You never dreamed your best friend would return your feelings (maybe that’s why you had so many bad relationships).
“Kiss me,” you breathed, slowly moving around so your heads were at the same level.
“That’s not a Taylor swift Lyric,” Alyssa said. In her brain, there was a loading sign currently whirring in little circles, as she attempted to process what you just said. Did you mean what she thought you said?
“Baby just say yes,” You said, feeling so happy that tears were coming to your eyes. You leaned forward getting inches from her face, so close you could feel her breath hitch. “Please kiss me.”
“Yes,” was all Alyssa had time to say before she closed the distance and kissed you.
broken (part 2).
san x reader
word count: 12k
angst, fluff (tw: mentions of domestic abuse and rape)
(part 1)
no matter how many times you tried to change your thinking patterns, you still classified your life into two parts: before the abuse and after.
you thought, after watching your ex-boyfriend being escorted out of the courtroom with a one-year prison sentence, that you wouldn’t be scared of him anymore.
you thought that moving out of the house and living in your new apartment would make day to day life easier, not needing to see the floor you were beaten on or counter you were forced to have sex on every day.
you thought that having san would make you feel happy and loved and enough. that having a whole new family unit consisting of seven other crazy boys and a crotchety old lady would be enough.
but as you sit curled up on the bathroom floor with tears in your eyes, you’re seeing you severely underestimated everything.
underestimated just how much trauma you still had to sort through and how badly that asshole really did mess you up.
six months ago:
“so we have the surveillance footage and witness testimony from your neighbors,” your lawyer explains gently, an older woman with kind eyes and soft-spoken voice that quickly transforms in the courtroom.
“but a personal statement, if you feel comfortable, would probably guarantee the harshest sentence.”
the harshest sentence being one year, a measly 365 days compared to the 1,825 he subjected you to every kind of abuse: sexual, emotional, mental, physical.
hitting and grabbing and slapping until your skin was littered with bruises and cuts.
talking so harshly to you that you believed dying was the best option, stripping you from any sort of confidence or self-esteem you once had.
making you feel completely inept and useless, solely viewing you as a piece of property he could boss around and use at his disposal.
you had left the office with shaking hands and a pounding heart, barely being able to dial san’s number before he answered after one ring.
this was the first appointment you’ve went to without him, insisting he can’t and won’t miss his midterm for this.
“hi, love. everything go okay?” he asks softly, with the sweet gentle voice that has quite literally kept you alive these past few months.
you don’t know what you did in another life to deserve san but you know that without him, you probably wouldn’t have made it this far. without his constant support and sweet reassurances, you wouldn’t have believed you could ever do this.
willingly tell police officers and lawyers about what happened to you, break down and expose yourself in such a way that always made you feel weak and pathetic.
admit aloud that, yes, you’ve been a victim of abuse and no, those bruises and scars on your body aren’t from clumsy falls into the wall or cabinet.
without him, accompanying you to the police station or lawyer’s office, where you knew jungkook was lingering, you would’ve never felt safe.
you would’ve broke down and took it all back, told them that you made it all up and to release him because he didn’t do anything wrong.
but he did so much wrong and you and san know that. the police and lawyers and judges know it too, several outbursts from the man in court and at the station proving that.
it’s what makes the thought of a personal statement so hard, having to look your ex-boyfriend in the face and watch him stare you down with not an ounce of remorse or sorrow.
san must know it too, if your silence through the phone tells him anything, and you can already hear shuffling in the background as he prepares to leave his class and head to your apartment.
“are you done with your test?” you ask first, voice sweet but mousy in a way that makes san’s stomach sink
he knew today was gonna be rough for you, he knew he should’ve asked his professor to retake the midterm next week.
“yes,” the boy answers immediately, knowing he’s about to run back into the classroom, circle c for the last three answers and haul ass to his car.
“san, are you-”
“i was done, it’s fine, y/n,” he confirms gently, feet moving and body desperate to rush toward your apartment.
because he knows after all of this time, you’ve learned to hold back your pain and suffering. years of practice and keeping tears at bay that he’s noticed have made these months difficult for you two.
and he hates knowing that you still wait till you’re alone to cry.
that even though every time you do, he wipes away every tear and holds you to his chest until you fall asleep, you still feel most comfortable being sad alone.
that you’re probably already home now, about to bury your face in a pillow and sob until you hear his car and wipe your cheeks clean like nothing is wrong.
but there’s a lot wrong.
a lot wrong with how you’ve been treated and how hard it is to move past it.
a lot wrong with the legal system that makes this painful journey even more exhausting, forcing you to recount memory after memory and answer question after question about the worst ordeals of your life.
that’s why san can’t help but turn in his test and rush out the door to his car, speeding off campus and onto the highway in hot pursuit of your apartment above the bakery.
it had seemed like perfect little place to get you back on your feet, the smell of freshly baked bread and pleasant bustle of regulars greeting you in the early morning hours.
there was no commute for you, just a walk down the stairs and through the yellow door of the bakery, where simple work waited for you.
“you just need to ring up the customers and maybe clean a table or two. most people take their things to go,” your boss had told you, a divorced mother of three who spent most of her life baking before she was finally able to open up a place of her own.
it was simple work but it was more than you’d done in years, something as little as small talk with regulars successfully draining you. filling you with a nervousness and fear that you’re still feeling even without your ex’s presence.
but it’s in the way a man yells on the phone about a business deal going sour while waiting for his morning coffee.
a woman chastising her kids saying that they won’t get to eat the cookies she’s buying after dinner.
the slam of the door when a harsh gust of wind howls from outside and rattles the small bakery with light blue walls and pictures of bread and desserts.
you don’t know how many coffees you’ve spilt or plates you’ve broken from jumping at the harsh sounds, realizing little by little how hard this transition was gonna be.
even with san and his friends and your boss and the crazy old lady who secured this new life for you in the first place, it’s still hard.
you can’t even imagine doing all of these new things alone, just living in such a simple way that the average person takes for granted.
but you suppose it’s not all simple yet, going back and forth between meetings with your lawyer and the police for the court date that’s rapidly approaching.
you can feel that the closer it comes, the harder it is to breathe.
the mere thought of seeing the man who hurt you for the longest five years of your life, sitting in front of you with not an ounce of remorse on his face. making this process even harder because how are you supposed to talk in front of him?
see clear as day that you’re not safe and you never will be.
that he’s gonna get out in a year, because that’s the harshest sentence possible without you being hospitalized or dead, and hurt you again. he’s never gonna stop hurting you because he always said you were his and he wouldn’t ever hesitate to-
you don’t even hear the jingle of san’s keys opening the front door or his softly spoken call of your name.
you’re only aware of his presence when you feel his warm, small hands cup your face, his thumbs rubbing over your wet, salty skin as he mutters your name lowly.
“hey, i’m here, i’m here,” he mumbles sweetly, tone soft and gentle the way it always is no matter what the circumstances are.
he plops down on the couch before pulling you into his lap, his hand rubbing up and down your back gently. you hear the quiet but firm “sh, sh, sh,” against your head, the sharp calming hums always in threes as an attempt to ground you.
you try to focus on his calming sounds and even breaths, the hand on your back so warm and gentle as he lulls your panicked body into a calmer state.
you bury your face in his chest and breathe in his scent, cologne and detergent mixed with his natural scent that lingers on your pillow every morning.
“i-i’m sorry.”
the words make his stomach plummet, tears burning his eyes because you never have anything to be sorry for. you never have anything to be sorry for and you say it all the time.
when you bump into him in the kitchen while making food together.
when you sit on the remote and change the channel by accident.
when you burnt the cookies one night and made the fire alarm go off.
he remembers that being one of the worse nights, the loud noises making you jump while also flinching away when he lifted his arm up to fan away the smoke. and then you immediately apologized again, cookies long forgotten before he grabbed your hand and led you into the living room.
he just held your hand as you both watched tv, his thumb rubbing over your skin before you spoke words so quietly, he almost missed them.
“i wish...i would stop doing that.”
he cranes his neck over to look at you, eyebrow raised and eyes soft as he looks at you questioningly.
he wants to tease and say that you’ve never burnt the cookies before but anytime you feel comfortable enough to talk to him like this, he never wants to say the wrong thing.
“i...i know you would never hurt me,“ you continue after a few moments. “and i know i’m just...scared easily, i guess. but it makes me feel bad,” you admit quietly, heart pulling in your chest as you look at the man beside you.
he has gotten you through the hardest times of your life, has been by your side every step of the way with no questions or complaints, and you haven’t been able to repay him.
not even with a plate of fucking cookies.
“you don’t have to feel bad, y/n,” san says gently, his hand reaching out slowly to tuck a piece of hair behind your ear.
your eyes close at his feather light touch and the way it makes your heart jump, his fingers lingering on you in a way that makes you feel so safe and content.
“and i know it’s hard to believe still but you have nothing to be scared of either. i’m not gonna let anyone hurt you again and i mean that.”
“but i feel like i’m hurting you,” you mumble softly, pulling your knees up as you rest your head on the couch cushion. his brows pull together as his eyes roam your face, a pout on his lips the more he looks at you in silence.
“you’ve helped me so much and i just...” tears fill your eyes as you struggle to find the words and breathe. you’ve only been living in your new house for two months now and almost every day, san has been here.
bringing you food, helping you clean and decorate, spending late nights with you watching movies, helping you through an inevitable fit of panic when your memories and life become too much.
he makes it easier to breathe and you’re scared that without him, you’re gonna stop one day.
“i just keep... taking from you. you get nothing out of helping me but you still do it anyway and i...you shouldn’t even bother, san. i-i’m not worth this time and i just want you to-”
“stop.”
he tries to keep the anger out of his voice knowing that all of this is what you’ve been told. you’ve been told your whole life that you weren’t enough, were only deemed worthy by a piece of shit who did nothing but hurt and berate you.
but it doesn’t make it any less hard to hear. to hear in your voice and see in your eyes that you truly believe you’re not worth the time he wants to put into you.
“you’re worth the time to me,” he says, voice gentle but firm in a way that makes a lump form in your throat. his finger reaches out to trace small circles on your hand, your eyes following it so he doesn’t see the tears building up.
“i like seeing you happy, y/n. and i wanna help you.”
your teary eyes meet his and you swallow the growing lump in your throat when you see the look on his face, soft and sweet in a way you still can’t believe is directed toward you.
“i feel like i need a lot of help,” you mutter, voice barely above a whisper as you think back to how day to day life is so challenging and draining.
the loud voices and the screaming kids and banging door that sends you into a panic. the broken dishes and tear stains on your pillow that are there more often than not after san leaves every night.
but san’s hearing each and every word right now, his heart panging in his chest at how vulnerable you are right now. how you let him see this side of you and continue to despite how hard he knows everything’s been.
“that’s okay,” he smiles softly, stopping the circles on your hand to intertwine your fingers. “i’m gonna be here as long as you need me, okay?”
you look up to meet his gaze and feel a tear slip down your cheek, a cry bubbling in your throat that you so desperately wanna let out.
but you also don’t wanna make san any more sad tonight, biting down on your lip as you nod your head before leaning on his shoulder.
you don’t see the smile that crosses his face or hear the content sigh that leaves him, his hand in yours and presence enough to lull you into a dreamless sleep.
“you have nothing to be sorry for,” he assures you quietly, looking over your face as he wipes at your cheeks. you meet his gaze and your eyes stay locked on one another, his thumb gentle and soft across your skin.
“did you do good on your test?” you squeak out after a few moments of silence, a smile breaking out across his face.
“of course i did, we studied all night, didn’t we?” he teases, referring to just last night when you helped him with index cards and read them all to him twice before promptly passing out on his chest.
a blush crosses your face as you look down in embarrassment, a sweet high pitched laugh bubbling out of him.
“it’s okay, don’t be embarrassed. your drool only ruined a few of them.”
“i don’t drool,” you mutter, a small smile on san’s face as he tightens his hold on you in his lap.
“did you eat yet?”
you shake your head as indistinguishable mumble leaves your mouth, curling yourself into his chest more as his warmth and comforting scent envelop you.
his lips brush against your hair in a small smile, quietly asking what you wanna eat even though he knows you’re gonna say you don’t care.
“whatever you want,” you mutter against him, the exhaustion of waking up at 5 am and the draining meeting with your lawyer catching up to you.
and san knows on days like these that chinese food and watching reruns of old cartoons is usually the thing you need to feel a little bit better.
pretend that just for a few hours, everything is okay and there’s nothing more pressing than spending the night together in what always turns into having a sleepover.
because just as you found it difficult to live in that house you once shared with jungkook, san finds it difficult to go back to that block every night.
stay just a few houses away from where he’s reminded of how you were treated while he was just a few feet away.
watching as the backyard once full of flowers becomes dull and colorless and every window reminds him of what was truly going on behind the walls of that house.
it’s one of the reasons why staying with you just makes sense. that and the fact that leaving you always proves to be the hardest part of the night together.
you with a pout and sad eyes quietly whining for him to stay and him being completely powerless as he throws himself down next to you and wraps his arms around your waist.
he’s not surprised when the same thing happens tonight, your eyes drooping and body slacking against him before he quietly asks if he should get going. you look up at him tiredly, eyebrows pulled together and one cheek red from you leaning on his chest in a way that makes him hold back a smirk.
“no,” you say quietly, your eyes roaming his face before you quickly realize he might want to leave you. the thought rips a pang of hurt through your chest but you can’t help but feel that might be the case.
you ripped him away from his test and cried on him all night. why would he wanna stay with you?
“unless you want to. i-i don’t wanna force you to stay here if you don’t-”
“of course i want to,” san responds, taking your face in his hands gently and allowing his thumb to run along your soft skin. “i was just checking.”
because he also never wants to overstep. make you feel too overwhelmed or smothered since if it were up to him, he’d never leave your side again.
his words and touch send relief through you, the panic and fear that attempted to break through quickly dying it. everything about him makes it so easy to be calm and comforted, a smile making it’s way on your face as you nod.
you place your head back on his chest, sighing contently when you feel his arm wrap around your shoulder a few moments later. you stare at the tv blankly, not sure how long you’re lost in thought about the conversation at the lawyer’s office.
“but a personal statement, if you feel comfortable, would probably guarantee the harshest sentence.”
could you really do that though? strip yourself to the most vulnerable degree and proclaim to a courtroom full of people how weak and defenseless you were for five years? how the man who’s gonna be seated just a few feet away over you had that much power over you?
would you feel better looking jungkook in the face and telling him that you’re gonna be strong and come out okay? that he won’t be able to hurt you anymore and will rot behind a cell for what he’s done?
or would you it make you feel worse? seeing him again and the blankness behind his eyes. the pity and sorrowful looks on the judge and court officers when your voice shakes and eyes brim with tears as you recall your old life.
you’re not even sure if san is awake at this point, his arm heavy around you and breaths even under your head but you can’t seem to stop your tired self from speaking.
“my lawyer suggested i make a personal statement.”
san doesn’t stutter under you, the only sign of him being awake when he hums lowly and gently pulls away from you. the bed dips next to you when he lays on his side, your eyes meeting just as he reaches out to smooth out a messy strand of hair.
“yeah?” he mumbles lowly, his soft eyes roaming your face. “how do you feel about that?”
the question, despite the serious tension in leaves in the air, makes you smile softly, remembering when your lawyer recommended counseling, you thought back to san waiting in the car and felt as if you already had all the support you needed.
he has the most patience and kindness of anyone you’ve ever met before and you can’t imagine trusting someone as much as trust him. have someone else hear you this vulnerable and genuine, see you cry and feel all the emotions that come with rebuilding your life after being a victim of domestic violence.
“i don’t know if i can do it.”
the words make san frown, holding himself up on his elbow as he looks over your face with concern. he can tell you’re tired, eyes hazy and drooping but he also can tell your mind’s been preoccupied.
more so than usual.
“i...i don’t know if i could do it with him there.”
“he’s not gonna hurt you anymore,” san reminds you gently, his hand creeping down in between your bodies to take ahold of yours. it’s soft and small and warm and everything about it makes you feel safe.
“i-i know. but...just him being there. watching me and hearing me say what he’s done when i know he has no remorse. and then telling more people how i let it go on for so long and-”
“you didn’t let anything go on for too long. it wasn’t your fault. y/n.”
tears burn your eyes as a lump forms in your throat, hearing those words from almost everyone in your life but still not having the ability to grasp it.
it feels like your fault, it feels like you’ve allowed yourself to be treated in a way you knew was wrong for far too long.
because now look at you. trying to rebuild your life but being panicked when the wind howls just a little too loudly outside.
you take a few deep calming breaks and swallow as you look at him, eyes hazy and glossy and threatening to close shut; you’re so tired but it’s like your brain never stops going these days.
“she said...it’d guarantee the harshest sentence. but shouldn’t the evidence be enough? the tapes and the witnesses? why- why do i have to keep going through this?” you whisper, voice shaky and tears building as you look at him. the sight alone makes san stomach sink, rolling his tongue between his lips anxiously.
“i just want it to be over. i don’t wanna keep recounting what happened over and over and over again. i... it’s so hard, san. it’s so hard and i feel like i can’t do it anym-”
your words break off as a quiet whimper leaves your mouth, crumbling against san’s body when he pulls you forward and wraps his arms around you. your head falls in the crook of his neck as his hand rests on the back of your head, breathing slowly and evenly as quiet hums leave his mouth.
“I know, baby,” san mumbles, his lips against your head as he presses a kiss to your hair. “you don’t have to do anything you don’t wanna do, okay? no one can make you do anything.”
"you're hurting me, jungkook," your broken voice tells him, the cracks and pain behind it familiar to even your own ears.
you don't know how many times you've heard yourself like this. so desperate and defeated.
"i wish i didn't have to, babydoll," he says lowly, "but you never listen. you make me do this."
and you don’t even think about if you’re gonna regret it at the time. not use your own voice and speak up in front of the courtroom about what the man on trial did.
you can only think about his eyes watching you, your friends hearing your voice quiver and shake, the judge maybe not taking your words into account. it all seems too much right now, the crushing weight of anxiety and fear that’s making you feel too weak to do that.
“you made it this far. and it’s almost all over, okay?” san reassures, his hand stroking your hair as he tries to calm your cries. “if you wanna do it, i’ll be right there next to you. we’ll all be there for you and you’ll be safe the whole time. but if you don’t, that’s okay too. you don’t have to and everything will still be okay.”
and because it’s like the blonde just knows everything when it comes to you, everything is okay - or as okay as things can be under these circumstances.
your lawyer didn’t bat an eye when you told her you weren’t sure if you could do a personal statement, her hand on your shoulder as she gently tells you that it’s okay. that the harshest sentence would probably still be given, considering the unusual amount of evidence in a case like this.
you watched jungkook get taken out of court with a one year sentence, thrashing in handcuffs and cursing at you while you gripped san’s hand tightly.
you had foolishly thought watching that was gonna somehow heal you immediately.
no longer make you afraid or flinch at the smallest of sounds or movements, make you feel like now you can take san’s words to heart and feel worthy of the love he showered you with.
but it was with that love, you started to grow too dependent. let it consume you in a whole new way that made you feel like without san, you couldn’t breathe.
at first, he didn’t know what had triggered the episodes that followed three months after the trial.
it had seemed as if you were making a lot of progress over the past few months, truly happy and smiley without an ounce of fear in your eyes that had always seemed to linger.
you were working hard at the bakery, becoming closer with the regulars and even finding it easier to talk with them. they found you comforting and sweet, always greeting them with a warm smile and remembering how many sugars they got with their morning coffee.
the same warm smile you gave san when he told you he was visiting his parents for his mom’s birthday one weekend, sending him off with a loaf of bread and an array of cookies.
“don’t eat them all,” you teased lightly, side-eyeing mingi who was one of your many regulars and could also take your advice as he shovels rainbow cookies in his mouth.
“i won’t,” san smiles gently, looking in mingi’s direction and holding back a laugh upon seeing the boy.
he was probably the next closest person you came to trust since you all got to know each other, a soft spot for him ever since the moment he deemed sunflowers ‘sunnies’ during the darker times.
mingi was the happiness and innocence you think you must have had once. finding the good in everything and being happy just because the sun was out and dessert was on the table.
“and neither should you,” san chastises the younger boy, smacking him in the back of the head lightly. you smile softly at the exchange, holding back a snort as you clean off the table next to the bickering boys.
the arm around your waist a few moments later would’ve startled you had you not smelt san’s cologne, leaning into him and feeling grateful you’re the only three in the store right now.
you look over your shoulder and smile softly at him, heart stuttering at the look on his face. eyes full of such concern, you should know he’s about to ask you if you’re-
“are you gonna be okay tonight?”
he wasn’t ignorant of the fact, the same way you weren’t, that this is gonna be one the first nights you’ve spent alone in months.
not falling asleep to the gentle lull of his breathing or his arms around your waist. no one to be there if you wake up from a nightmare, where memories torment your body as you hear the shouts of your ex and feel as if your body is still being bruised.
san not being there to wake you with a gentle peck on the cheek before dragging you back to the warm bed when you try to get up for work.
but you have to be okay, right? you’ve been doing so good these past few weeks. and you’re an adult the same way he’s an adult, it’s ridiculous to think you guys would have to spend every night together.
“of course, silly” you poke him gently, smiling when his dimples poke out of his cheeks. “have fun with your parents. don’t worry about me.”
“i always worry about you,” he mumbles lowly, his lips ghosting over your hair as you push his chest lightly. he bites back a smile when he sees the blush on your cheeks, pulling away from him immediately so you can stick your tongue out at him.
and that night, it actually feels as if you’re okay.
you busy yourself by cleaning and cooking before passing out to the vampire diaries. your sleep is dreamless and calm, waking up to a good morning message from san consisting of a bare-faced, messy-haired selfie.
but a few days after his return is when he began to notice the little changes.
behaviors he thinks you weren’t even aware of that made his heart sink into his stomach; it reminded him so much of the first few weeks you were away from jungkook.
how despite the fear in your eyes, you clung to him because you knew he’d never hurt you. felt safe in his presence and sought him out when you were feeling uncomfortable or upset.
and he sees you’re back to the place right now, so obviously uneasy and upset despite the major progress you’ve been making.
it was like the second he came through the door, you had to be by his side. leaning your head on his shoulder as you watched your shows or grabbing his hand when he got up to go to the bathroom.
at first, he thought it was cute - your clinginess and obvious affection toward him. he thought it was sweet and it made him so happy, smiling softly and kissing the top of your head as he told you he’d be back in a minute.
but the more the weeks went on, the worse it was seeming to get.
you asking him after only a few hours of him at school when he was gonna be back. nightmares and bad memories haunting you when you’d fall asleep for naps in between your shift ending and his last class.
“baby... are you sure you’re okay these days?”
the words cause you to stop stirring the pasta in the pot, craning your neck to where san is sitting on the countertop.
he meets your gaze with a soft smile and extends his hand out to you, leaning down to press a kiss to your nose before pulling you up.
you squeal at the sensation, giggling quietly because there you two are just perched on the counter like two cats and no regard for the boiling pot of food beside you.
you giggle again when he places a kiss to your neck, tightening his hold around your waist.
he relishes in the sound of your laugh because it also seems like these days, he’s hasn’t heard it that much.
“i feel like i haven’t heard that in a while,” he mumbles against your neck, his lips lingering on your skin. he never wants to say the wrong thing with you or make you feel like you’re not doing good enough.
you pull back and look at him with a small pout, your fingers toying at the end of his shirt nervously.
“i...i’m okay though,” you tell him quietly, thinking it’s the truth even though you have felt off these days.
you didn’t know what it was though honestly. it’s felt like ever since san came back from his parents, you’ve needed him extra. clingy and needy and annoying in the sense that the poor man can’t even go away without you needing him.
and now he seems to know it, too.
maybe he doesn’t wanna do this anymore. maybe he didn’t sign up for months of you going back and forth, feeling great and confident one week and then back to being clingy and scared the next.
because you know it’s only a matter of time before two things happens: he gets sick of you and leaves or starts resenting you. doesn’t wanna waste his time with a battered woman when he could be wth fun and carefree college girls.
“have i been annoying?”
your blurted out question throws him off as much as it breaks his heart, immediately shaking his head as he cups your cheeks.
his lips fall into a pout and your eyes immediately fall to them, about to comment on it before he places a sweet, short peck on yours.
you two, despite your close and intimate relationship full of skin-ship, don’t kiss a lot. you can only count of one hand how many times san has kissed you on the lips, most of the time going for your cheek or head.
but you certainly don’t mind.
you think it’s good to take it slow, since everything else about your relationship is so intense. that’s why the times he does kiss you, you get filled with such a happy warm feeling that usually makes you feel better no matter what.
that’s how you know you’re not right. that suddenly, for some reason, you’re not okay again despite being so incredibly lucky that the people in you life now care about you.
they’re trying so hard to help you and it feels like you can’t repay them in any way.
“no, no, baby, not at all,” san says when he pulls back, his thumb gently rubbing your cheek. “i’m just concerned.”
the lump in your throat makes it feel like you can’t breathe, biting your lip harshly as you look up at the blonde.
“i love that you want me around,” he continues softly, his voice barely above a whisper as he looks down at you. “but i’m just...i also wanna make sure you’re okay.”
you nod your head as you take in his words, slightly calmed by them despite the way your mind is trying to tell you otherwise.
he loves that you want him around, he just said so. and he wouldn’t put up with you if he didn’t want to, right?
“i’m okay,” you assure sweetly, leaning into his touch just a little bit more. “i guess i just missed you.”
your cheeks flush at the soft, almost touched look that crosses san’s face, his lips falling into a pout as he tightens his hold on you.
“i missed you too.”
boiling liquid splashing onto the stove causes you both to look away, a squeal leaving your mouth as the foamy water overflows the pot.
“shit!” you squeal, jumping down from the counter to rush over and lower the heat. san watches from his spot with a small smile, chuckling lightly when you throw him a look.
“sorry,” he says sheepishly, a playful roll of your eyes causing him to jump down and hug you from behind.
he presses small kisses and laughs into the crook of your neck as you finish making the pasta, feeding him pieces from the pot to see if it’s cooked enough.
you eat on the couch and spend the rest of the night watching tv, a relatively calm and relaxed night that makes you feel much better than the past few days.
you think you just got so used to his presence, the comfort and warmth and light he provides by just being in your apartment and smiling at you.
you were scared by how attached you’d grown to him, depending on him in a way you think a person who has gone through what you’ve gone through shouldn’t.
but he’s so good and makes you feel loved. it’s such a different feeling than one you’ve ever experienced, after your family and friends and ex-boyfriend let you down time and time again.
you’ve never had someone like this before but you’ve also never tried to rebuild your life before. never had the chance to be your own person and make your own decisions - it’s something you’re still learning and that’s evident to everyone in your life.
but the next morning, a pleasant surprise in the form of mrs. kim comes bursting through the door and immediately lights your face with a smile; apart from san and mingi, she’s another person you’ve grown extremely close and fond of.
she’s the one who made everything possible, rebuilding your life with a new home and workplace. it’s why she always tries to push you further out of your comfort zone and into the real world with gentle prodding and much needed assurance.
she’s at the bakery for almost two hours before she pulls up a chair behind the register and gets that look in her eye you know all too well. it’s the look she gave you the day you accepted the apartment, insisting you take it and make it your own and to not even think about how to pay her back.
the look she gave you before the trial as she gave you strength, told you that you were strong and you were gonna get through this, with or without your personal statement.
and apparently it’s the look she gives you when she broaches the topic of you enrolling back in school.
“so what do you think?” she asks, tone carefree and excited like she’d been thinking about this for weeks. “is that something you’d wanna do?”
your immediate thought is yes. yes, yes, yes shout it from the rooftops yes. you miss school and learning and all the experiences that come with getting an education.
you once loved school and had so many aspirations but then your life apart. the prospect of an education or getting a job was dangled in your face as some sort of manipulation tactic.
that when jungkook went too far and left you especially bloody and bruised, he’d mentioned school like it was the answer to all of your problems as a couple. like that was his penance and would win him boyfriend of the year.
and mrs. kim must see the haunted look in your eye, replaying flashbacks and memories from how choices like that weren’t under your control for the longest time.
“listen to me, stop staying in there,” she says, flicking at your head and making you wince. “is that something you wanna do? yes or no?”
“yes but i-”
“but nothing,” the old lady says, wiping out an ipad the boys had been teaching her how to use for the past few weeks; the font is the biggest size you’ve ever seen and has a cat case on that almost makes you burst out laughing upon seeing.
“i was looking at the local school, it’s close and cheap but you could always get some financial aid, scholarships or even a loan,” she begins to tell you, eyes squinted and a wrinkle between her browns as she taps on the screen. “this shit is so hard, i’m still trying to learn. oh, great here it is, okay. look, they even have this major.”
you had mentioned once that you thought about a career in journalism to her, one night when you and her were making cookies in her house as the boys tended to her garden (because they were gardeners now, official, professional gardeners who only know how to plant sunflowers).
tears almost immediately fill in your eyes as you follow her pruny finger, licking over your lips so you don’t start sobbing.
she looks up at you after a few moments of silence and it’s promptly followed by her smacking your arm, a scoff leaving her mouth that makes you giggle.
“what are you crying about?”
the emotion clogged in your throat makes it hard to speak, attempting to talk through the strange contrast of tears and laughter bubbling in your throat.
“i just... i can’t believe you remember i told you that. it was so long ago.”
“what? you think because i’m old i don’t remember shit? i’m not a senile, y/n, jesus.”
a wet giggle leaves your mouth as you listen to her talk about the research she’s done, about how to pay and when you can start and her son’s experience at the local college.
it all makes you feel very hopeful, excited even, as you think about what once seemed impossible.
getting out in the world and pursuing a passion you as an individual had. making connections and just conversing with different people and seeing relationships form.
but all of those doubts and fears instilled in you don’t just go away.
you remember months back when you told san you were writing again, he was the one who recommended going back to school.
was so happy about it that his eyes were shining and dimples were out and you’d never seen someone more handsome.
but now that you guys are...kind of together, would his mind change? does he not want you talking to other people either now? will he think it’s silly or pointless, since you already have you job at the bakery?
you know deep down that that’s not the kind of person san is. you knew from the moment you met him and risked talking and smiling and laughing with him that he was good.
but that part of you still scared and broken from what you went through, the prospect of school and freedom dangled in your face as some sort of reward or apology, is scared he won’t approve.
and whether it’s unhealthy or not, all you want is san’s approval.
“c-can i ask you something?” you ask him later that night, both of you cuddled up on the couch.
a blanket’s thrown over your lap with san’s arm around your shoulder, your head now off his chest as you look up at him questioningly.
he immediately looks down at you with a soft, curious expression, running his hand through your hair as a small smile makes it’s way on his face.
“anything,” he hums lowly, already making your nervous body feel slightly more calm.
you have to try and always remember this is the boy who’s been by your side for months, with no complaints. who saved you from your life before this and only wants you to be safe and happy.
“i was talking to miss kim earlier today...” you begin, his interest already peeked because he thinks he might know where this is going; he was suspicious ever since the older woman asked him how to make the font larger on her ipad.
he sees the slight apprehension and fear in your eyes so he takes your hand in his, running his thumb over your skin gently and giving you a small, encouraging nod.
you take a deep breath and try to shake the worry off, opening and closing your mouth before deciding to spit it out.
“we...were talking about me going back to school. and i...kind of thought that would be something good for me to do. i used to love school and learning and mrs kim. said there’s a lot of things i could do to pay for it and stuff, if i needed to...”
his chest hurts slightly watching you stammer over your words nervously, your eyes moving from him to the wall as you start to unconsciously hold his hand tighter.
“but if you don’t want me to or think it’s a stupid idea, i won’t. i just...wanted to make sure it was okay with you.”
you don’t see the way san sits there in contemplation as you’re too nervous and toying with the edge of the blanket, his face sympathetic but also a little surprised.
there’s a lot of things that san is still getting used to, the way you’re so vulnerable and attached to him (in a way he doesn’t mind at all).
but it’s like right now he’s seeing the severity of it, watching as a grown woman asks for his permission for something she absolutely doesn’t.
it makes tears burn the back of his eyes but he quickly pushes the sensation and desire away, his hand lifting your chin so you made his gaze head-on.
“y/n...you don’t need my permission to do anything. you... you know that, right?”
your eyebrows pull together almost in confusion that he didn’t immediately respond with a yes or no, head cocked to that side as you lick over your lips nervously.
he can’t help but think if this was a fault on his part. did he make you feel like you have to ask his permission or approval for things? did he maybe at any point make you feel scared or judged when he’s been doing his best to avoid that?
your harsh grip on his hand brings him back to the conclusion that, right now, this isn’t about him.
whether he did that or not, he has to make sure right now that you know you’re your own person and don’t need to run decisions by him or anyone else.
“baby, i think it’s great you wanna do that and will support whatever you wanna do. but you don’t have to ask for...my permission to do anything,” san tells you softly, his hand cupping your face as he presses a kiss to your head; the words ‘his permission’ even feel gross on his tongue.
“i’m happy if you’re happy. and if going to school will make you happy, i’m gonna be supportive 100%. you got it, love?”
you don’t even know why you’re surprised by san’s reaction but it still brings tears to your eyes, only being able to nod before you bury your face in his chest.
he bites back a smile at the feel of you against him, running his hand up your back to gently rest in your hair.
“you still wanna study journalism?” he mumbles against your hair and again, you can only nod so you don’t let out the whimper threatening to leave you mouth.
because it still shocks you day after day that everyone in your life now truly seems to care.
they remember things about you and want to see you smile, always remind you that you can do whatever you want and are slowly making you see that, maybe, you will be okay in the end.
it may not seem like a lot to someone who’s been lucky enough to have these things but, for you, it’s something you haven’t ever had before.
the ability to giggle and smile and spend your night with someone who you can see really, truly loves you. who wouldn’t do anything to hurt you and always has your best interests in mind.
that’s exactly why when you fall asleep, san can’t help but turn to look at your sleeping form. he runs his hand through your messy hair, moving a strand from your face and feeling his heart lurch at how peaceful and innocent you look.
he still can’t get the thoughts out of his heads from earlier, wondering if, maybe, this whole time, he hasn’t been doing the right thing.
maybe these past few months, you should’ve been rebuilding your life on your own. he shouldn’t have been here every, single step of the way to sooth and coddle and protect you.
it was something hongjoong said just a few weeks after you moved in and he nearly attacked the boy, asking how he could let you cry alone every night and feel lonely and scared in a new place?
but he also knows that hongjoong is more logical than him. he’s always let his emotions get to him, empathetic and caring almost to a fault.
and with you, he was always even more clouded.
now, though, he’s seeing that maybe hongjoong has a point. he’s seen it in the way you’ve become more clingy and dependent on him, something he loves and makes him feel warm but also knows, for you, is a part of feeling safe.
and as hard as it is for him to admit, he knows you need to feel safe without him. slowly rebuild your own sense of self and security without him always being there to wipe your tears or kiss your face.
but how is supposed to do that? he thinks, watching your sleeping face with a pained chest and burning eyes.
he’s about to get up to get a glass of water before he hears you whine, both his feet not even on the floor before even in your unconscious you can sense his departure.
“going to get water, love, i’ll be right back,” he mumbles in your ear, kissing the side of your head when you still and roll back over.
he gulps down the cool liquid before resting his head on the cold fridge, letting out a sigh as he realizes he may need to have another discussion with hongjoong.
even more so when he goes back into the room and sees your face, the slightest hint of discomfort in your pinched eyebrows and frowning lips.
you turn back over when he crawls in the bed again, your head on his chest and arm wrapping around his stomach.
he smiles upon hearing your sleepy voice call his name, dazed eyes staring up at him as he kisses the tip of your nose.
“hi, baby. i’m back.”
“i love you.”
the confession make his eyes widen and heart speed up, shocked into silence at those three, sudden words.
because while it’s obvious that’s how you both feel for each other, your sweet touches and words exchanged since the moment you met one another, you two haven’t ever uttered that sentence.
never put it out in the open and really discussed your feelings for one another.
but your eyes are shut and breaths turn even before you can even hear his softly spoken, “i love you,” in return.
and it’s because he loves you that he tells hongjoong about the thoughts he’s been having, wondering if he’s been doing the wrong thing the whole time and just making this transition harder for you.
“i think you’re trying to make it easier because you love her and don’t wanna see her hurt anymore.”
san’s eyes meet hongjoong’s across the dining room table at their house, a house san hasn’t slept or eaten at basically since you moved out; everyone knew where he was and they understood it completely but they also missed their friend’s presence.
“but...she does need to learn to be on her own, san. she’s never done that before and she’s always been dependent on someone. luckily you’re just...so fucking good that it wouldn’t be a problem. but even with her asking you if she could go to school...she’s not okay, yet, san. she needs to sort her shit out.”
“i don’t want her to be alone,” the blonde admits, voice tight and eyes threatening to water. “i don’t want her to think i’m leaving her.”
“you’re not leaving her alone. you’re just not gonna be attached at the hip 24/7. it’s normal for couples to be apart. you still live and pay rent here, you know. everyone misses you.”
the sound of bickering and plates crashing promptly comes from the kitchen, mingi’s harsh yelp of wooyoung’s name causing a commotion of bickering to break out.
hongjoong looks at san with a half pained, half amused expression, knowing that the dimpled boy will have to readjust to how loud and chaotic the house is all the time.
“you don’t have to do right now,” hongjoong says, wanting to finish the discussion before the boys notice san is here and lost their shit. “ease her into it. talk to her about it. see if she feels the same way. but let her know you just wanna help her, because i know you do, right?”
san’s nod is immediate and hongjoong mirrors him, his eyes quickly widening as he looks over the blonde’s broad shoulder.
he doesn’t even get to turn around before a slew of bodies bump into him, nearly knocking him onto the floor as six large, excited boys are jumping and squealing around him.
“san! you’re finally home!”
you’re nearly two months into your first semester of college by the time you’ve fully adjusted to your new schedule and pace of life.
classes monday, tuesday and thursdays mornings followed by your shift at the cafe during the afternoons. you miss your early morning regulars dearly and don’t know what to do with the 10+ memorized coffee orders still in your brain but you already love school so much.
you love learning and talking with your professors and meeting the many different people on campus. you’ve even found a small group of friends, two girls who sat next to you and immediately started up a conversation with you.
you were terffied and shy at first but eventually opened up, giggling and sharing your thoughts with them before class started - you even always made sure to be 10 minutes early so you could get in your chats with them.
unsurprisingly, san had been nothing but happy and supportive for the entire journey. helping you apply and become familiar with the campus while also assuring you everything was gonna work out.
your days were busy and packed with work and you truly loved it but night was still your favorite. when san would walk through the door with take out or you’d be greeted with the sight of him waiting for you on the couch.
it really felt as if your life was finally coming together, happy and at peace in a way you never felt before. it was like you finally had some sort of control over what happened to you, long gone the feeling of knots in your stomach or an uncontrollable shake in your hands.
but when you notice san is a little more quiet than usual today, you feel that foreign feeling make it’s way back into your body.
“is...everything okay?” you finally grow the confidence to ask, his hand absentmindley rubbing your leg that’s sprawled out on his lap.
you can tell the question throws him off by the way he snaps his head up to look at you, brows pulled together and his head cocked cutely to the side as his eyes roam your face.
“’course love, why do you ask?”
“i don’t know,” you hum softly, leaning the side of your head on the couch as you look at him. “i feel like you’re quiet today.”
“just thinking baby,” he tells you, tightening his hold on your leg before looking your way. “how were classes today?”
“good, i have to start my essay soon,” you tell him, something uneasy still pulling at your stomach; you’re not used to san being quiet or so lost in thought, usually the only time he’s silent is during a new episode of your shows.
“you’ll do great on it,” he says encouragingly, the hand on your leg gently calmingly rubbing your skin up and down. “you’re doing really good, you know that?”
happiness fills you at the thought of making san proud, a small smile on your face that causes one his own to cross his face. his dimples poke out and it reminds you so much of your first meeting, when the sun reflected off of him and you just knew there was something too pure and good about this man.
“thank you,” you smile softly, a faint blush on your cheeks that has san’s heart breaking in his chest even more.
he doesn’t wanna have this conversation tonight but he thinks it would be the best time. bring up maybe not staying over every night to create some more space for you while also allowing you to be more independent. learning how to fill your time with things other than him.
but you’re so happy tonight.
you’ve been so happy these past few months and he doesn’t wanna be the person to ruin that; it seems, though, you can see something behind his eyes and in his demeanor already, your body wiggling closer to him as your gaze shifts nervously.
“are you sure you’re okay?”
he lets out a sigh and you can’t help the way your stomach drops, watching carefully as his face turns contemplative and torn. like he wants to say something but isn’t sure if you’re gonna be able to handle it.
and that alone is scaring the shit out of you.
the silence is probably only fifteen seconds but it feels like hours, your eyes staring wide and heart starting to race as you look at him; you don’t know what you did but you had to have done something, right? he wouldn’t just act like this out of nowhere.
“did i...do something wrong?” you ask meekly, that feeling of fear and panic you haven’t felt in almost a year creeping back. you almost forgot how debilitating this feeling is, fully consuming your body until you feel like you’re about to completely breakdown and crumble.
the fear and concern on your face immediately makes him frown, shaking his head adamantly as he pulls you closer to him.
“no, no, no, y/n, of course not,” he assures softly, his lips brushing against your head.
you feel his calming breaths in your hair, like he already knows from the slight waver in your voice and look on your face that you’re getting worked up and anxious.
the few moments of silence should make you more anxious but you can only focus on his breathing and the warmth from his body against you, trying to stay calm as you remember that this is san and he would never do or say anything to hurt you.
“i’ve just been thinking about some things and i wanna talk to you about it,” san says, breaking the silence and immediately making your stomach flip nervously. “it’s nothing bad, baby, i just... you know i always have your best interest in mind, right?”
you swallow the lump growing in your throat as you turn to look at him, the soft look in his eye making you happy as much as it makes you sad.
because while you love seeing it, how sweet and thoughtful and truly kind he is, you know it’s also there because he thinks you’re about to lose your shit. and you haven’t lost your shit in quite some time.
“i-i know...”
he takes your face in his hands when your eyes start to wander, the quiet hum leaving his mouth making you look up at him again. the look in his eyes truly stirs something in you, tears burning your eyes even though you’re not even sure why yet.
“and you know i’ll never, ever hurt you?”
you nod again, feeling panic deep within your chest at where this conversation seems to be going.
“so what i’m about to suggest, i need you to hear me out, okay?”
he waits until you nod, his stomach sinking at the glossed over look in your eyes before he daringly opens his mouth again.
tells you that he thinks you living on your own while you start a new chapter of your life will be a good thing for you both. that learning to be independent and on your own will help you immensely in this new part of your life.
“you’ve been doing so good, y/n, and i’m so proud of you. you’ve started school and you work full time and you’re doing all the things you want to do. but we’re together all the time, baby, and i...i don’t know if that’s healthy, for either of us, you know?”
and you think to the average person, who hasn’t been abused and neglected and spent the last five years in normal, healthy circumstances, they would hear this and understand immediately.
that being alone and learning how to be on your own is a good, healthy thing that everyone needs to experience.
but all your brain can hear is he doesn’t wanna be with you anymore.
he’s tired of your brokenness and tired of looking after you all the time and needs some space from you; and while, you suppose, you can’t blame him, it doesn’t hurt you any less.
it doesn’t terrify you or upset you any less, even though you know his intentions are good; you can only feel unwanted and unworthy and like your time with someone so much better than you is up.
“is it...i just...do you not like it here? with me?”
did you not keep it clean enough? did you not cook enough, were the meals too frequently takeout and leftovers? you remember jungkook hated that, demanding the house be spotless and dinner be ready and homemade.
san would laugh at the question if this weren’t the current situation, a serious talk he’s been dreading having because he knows how you’re gonna take it at first.
but he loves being here and that’s the problem.
he would coddle you and love you and protect you for as long as you let him if it were up to him. but he knows that’s not what you need anymore, that you’re both not helping anyone if you continue to live your life in what became too comfortable and safe.
you deserve comfortable and safe but you also deserve to live happily and freely by yourself. and maybe that’s not his decision to make, he often thinks, but he certainly doesn’t think he’s helping you by enabling you to depend on him.
“baby, i love it here and i love you and i’ll never leave you until you tell me to,” san says, pressing a kiss to each cheek he prays tears don’t fall on in the next few minutes. “but i want you to be okay, love. i don’t want you to need me every night to sleep or think you need to ask my permission for things that are your choice.”
“is that- is that what this is about? that i asked you if i could go to school?” you ask meekly, the idea of talking back foreign but something you can’t control right now. “or is it because i’m in school?”
because maybe you’ve been too busy. maybe he feels like you neglected him. maybe he just wanted an out and this is it.
“of course it’s not because you’re in school,” san says, slight outrage in his voice as you even suggest that; he always tries to control his responses to you, knowing you’re dealing with years worth of manipulative behavior and maltreatment, but sometimes it does also get to him.
he was always supportive of your career and education, even when you were just friends and he admired you from afar.
“how could you think that?”
“because this is so random,” you squeak out, tears breaking through as the knot in your throat grows bigger. “i...i didn’t even know you were feeling this way and now you wanna stop seeing me.”
“i don’t wanna stop seeing you, y/n, when did i say that?” san asks, cocking his head to the side as he looks at you contemplatively.
“you said you don’t want to be together all the time...” you mutter out, feeling stupid and childish but not yet truly understanding what he means. you guys don’t fight at all and you’re always smiling and laughing together - isn’t it okay to be together all the time if good things like that are happening?
“y/n, i love you, of course i wanna still see you. but i just mean...living together the way we have these past months. you’ve never been alone. you’ve always depended on someone, right?”
you think back to your dysfunctional childhood, depending on alcoholic parents who never taught you how to fend for yourself until you fell into the arms of yet another abuser who you depended on even further.
restricted company and meals and communication, even restricted in what you could do outside the walls of your house.
“yes,” you nod, sniffling as you wipe at a stray tear on your cheek. “but they’ve only ever hurt me. you never do.”
that fact makes san’s chest pang with hurt, his own eyes burning with tears now as he thinks about how much pain you’ve endured.
“i know, baby, and i never will. but i think this’ll be good for us. good for you, mostly, that’s always my mian concern.”
but you start to wonder how this could possibly be good the second the front door closes a few hours later, leaving you alone in your apartment that now feels far too cold and far too dark and far too empty.
his lack of presence is noticable immediately and it doesn’t take long for panic and sadness and all that existential dread you once felt so deeply start to come on.
he doesn’t want you, nobody wants you, and the only people who did want you hurt you.
it’s a mantra you repeat in your head as you cry silently, splashing your face with cold water after your puffy eyes can’t take it anymore. and when you get a good look at yourself in the mirror, tear-stained and blotchy and a big fucking mess, you can’t help but see that same girl who was trapped in that house with jungkook.
weak and afraid and horribly incapable of doing anything right. so similiar to the current state you’re in now, sinking down on the bathroom floor and crying into your hands again.
this could be about san leaving, you know it has something to do with it, but you’re also crying because you now see just how badly you’re still effected by everything.
you could be distracted by school and work and san but there’s still so much under the surface that you haven’t come to terms with.
so much so to the point that even san had to step in and do something about it, him still seeing signs that you’re not okay despite how much everyone in your life is trying with you.
and it makes you feel bad that you have so many supportive, lovely people in your life but still can’t find it in you to feel okay. to not depend on one singlar blonde man to make you feel happy or act as if without him, you’re gonna break.
because you can see he’s tired of it. if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t have-
“y/n?”
his voice coupled with his fist hitting the door causes you to jump, at first thinking it’s a bittersweet trick your deluded little mind is playing on you. but then he knocks again, his sweet murmur of “y/n, please open the door,” causing you to cry out again.
hongjoong told him not to go, that he’d barely been home for an hour before he was already itching to rush back to you.
but he felt uneasy leaving the way he did in the first place, and then even more so when you didn’t answer his three messages and two facetime calls; he hated thinking that you were crying alone or feeling upset.
and it’s heartbreakingly evident when you reach up to open the door, curled up on the floor in tears, that that’s exactly how you feel.
“baby, no,” san hums lowly, immediately dropping to the floor so he can gather you in his lap.
it’s so much like the scene when you ran there after the final incident with jungkook, when you collapsed on the floor and finally told somebody about what you’d been going through.
what happened?" he asks desperately, voice strained and wavering.
but you can only shake your head and cry. cry for how long you've been dealing with this alone and how you feel trapped and how if you don't tell someone tonight.
"he's gonna kill me," you sob out as you shake your head frantically now, "i-i he's gonna kill me," is all you can repeat through ragged breaths.
san can only act on instinct, sitting down cross-legged and holding his arms out slightly before you crash into him. he shakily inhales when your head rests on his shoulder, sobs muffled by his shirt as he feels tears promptly soak through the material.
but he can only sit there, hand on the back of your head as he rocks you soothingly in his lap back and forth.
he listens to your sobs with a broken heart, tears stinging his own eyes because he had suspected something was going on for months and just sat here and did nothing. and now here you are, broken and bruised and in fear for your life.
"i can't go back there," you cry out, "i-he's gonna-"
"no one is gonna hurt you, anymore," he mumbles lowly in your ear, "i'm not gonna let that happen."
“you’re- you’re gonna leave me,” you whimper into his shirt, the only sound in your bathroom for the past few minuets your crying and his soothing hums. “you’re not gonna wanna deal with me anymore and leave and then i’ll really be alone and i’m so-”
“i’m not going anywhere. i’m not gonna let that happen,” he mumbles in your ear, his arms wrapped tightly around you as he presses his lips to your head. he rocks you back and forth so similarly to that night, his hand running up and down your back as he tries to get you to calm down.
“we’re gonna get you help. real help. and we’ll all be here for you whenever you need us. you’re gonna be okay, my love.”
one year later:
you look back at the breakdown in your bathroom and are always surprised that you don’t feel embarrassed.
you think that was the moment when you finally realized how much you’d gone through and how much you really had to sort through. that you could distract yourself all you want and depend on san as much as you felt you needed but you still had things to work through.
it took you about four therapist consultations to find the right one, eventually finding a sweet older woman who reminded you so much of your boss at the cafe. she listened to you and encouraged you and helped you find so much strength within yourself, you regret not taking your lawyer’s advice sooner about seeing a professional.
you still had bad days, of course, but now you’ve learned how to properly cope with them. cope with the stressors of everyday life, like the shouting of voices and the slamming of doors and san not being by your side 24/7.
and san, little to your surprise, had done the right thing in saying you needed to learn to be independent.
it scared you at first, living alone and being alone with your thoughts and memories that tried to haunt you every chance they got. but now your life is so full of happy ones that it makes everything a little bit easier; you now love the freedom of living alone and have come to enjoy the peaceful silences of your apartment.
you now have so many things to laugh and feel happy about, like mingi and seonghwa’s obsession with gardening (even though they’ve moved on to vegetables now and have yet to combat the battle with squirrels eating their tomatoes).
you have school and classes and friends that you made, making straight a’s while also balancing time with your study group, the boys and mrs. kim and your official boyfriend san.
there are still some days when you wake up and feel a sinking feeling in your stomach that you think might be there forever, a certain smell or certain pain richoetting through your body that will remind you of what you went through and survived.
but you know that you’ll be able to get through it, not only because you’re strong enough now but because you still have san to lean on - the boy in question currently with his arms wrapped tight around your waist and snoring down your neck.
you can’t help the small smile on your face as you turn in his hold, your finger reaching out to trace the contours of his face.
the warm, overwhelming feeling in your chest should scare you but it makes you feel even more happy and content with life, shutting your eyes immediately when his brown eyes meet yours.
his loud chuckle fills the room before he lips attack your neck, quiet giggles leaving your mouth that only spur the blonde on more.
“i saw that,” he mumbles playfully, smiling against your skin as your giggles get louder. “good morning, baby.”
you pull back and smile at the boy staring down at you lovingly, the late-morning sun beaming through your window reminding you so much of the first time you saw him.
heard his sweet, friendly voice that you immediately trusted and probably fell in love with right there.
"those are coming out really nice!" you hear a voice say from the yard next door.
you shoot your head to the side to see a young man standing there, probably about your age, eyes kind and dimples poking out of his cheeks as he holds an overflowing white garbage bag.
your lips quirk up ever so slightly, probably being mistaken for your mouth twitching before you give him a tiny bow.
"thank you."
few years ago;
“you’re fucking ridiculous!”
“you’re injured, how the fuck is it me that’s being unreasonable?”
she contemplated stabbing him straight to his chest. “i’m fine, leave me alone,” she hissed, holding on to her arm as she tried to limp away. second year jujutsu student noritoshi kamo wondered how the hell one could be this stubborn. with blood caked up on the side of her face, lips busted and bruising in the corner, not to mention the broken arm and probably twisted ankle, he could not understand how one could be this reckless and stupid, it’s almost ridiculous.
but here she is standing in front of him.
“you could’ve let me handle it,” he said, coldly.
she never turned that fast in her life; her limping leg suddenly worked fine as she hauled her ass, throwing both fists to his chest. the force put was enough to threw him back a few steps, he caught her wrists holding her from falling down. “stop acting like i’m so fragile. i can exorcist the curse just fine. you make me hate you so much,” she spitted, pure rage etched on her face, “just because i’m a girl, because i’m your girl, i’m weak. please, i am as good as you are, kamo.”
their faces were so close, he could count the freckles spread on her nose and cheeks. he loves her eyes the very first time he caught glimpse of it; one is a dull brown while the other looks like it carries the secret of the bright blue sea. this time, the eyes he loves looked hopeless, lack of the burning spirit she carried with tears threatening to spill. letting go of a wrist, his trembling hand brushed the hair coated with the blood back, carefully not to hurt her. “i never said you are bad,” he clarified, fingers busy brushing the hair back. his sudden reaction surprised her, and her body betrayed her thoughts as she eased in his arms.
he tilted her chin, his head was panicking as he realised that his brain was no longer controlling his movement as he leaned down and kissed her.
she tasted like blood.
she winced, pain aching on the swollen part and he apologized so quietly as he deepened the kiss. “nori-” her voice croaked as she swallowed his moans. he hummed, satisfied by the kiss. their foreheads rest against each other, the tip of their noses touched as they struggled to catch breath.
“stop being stupid. let me help you okay?”
“okay.”
slipping his arm under hers, he helped her walk, leading them out of the abandoned building they managed to exorcist. nothing major, a couple of pestering level three and four curses that them both handled well but their supervisor missed to tell them about the hiding level two curse that took them by surprise. she had become the curse’s main target.
if she would’ve just listened to him and stay close. he sighed.
“ouch, ouch,” she cried, clutching on her left leg, forcing him to stop. impatient, he slipped his hand under her knees, lifting her up in his arms. she apologized profusely, embarrassed to be such a burden to him. he brushed it off immediately.
“did you call them? told them that we are done?”
she gasped, “wait, i thought they’ll wait for us.”
he huffed, “you’re not that important, y/n. give them a call, please. i want to go home.”
kicking the door open, the moonlight shone on them as he carried her down to the bottom stairs. settling her down on the steps, he sat beside her, letting a long sigh. he watched as she took the call, letting them know that she was slightly injured, and they need to go back asap. she was visibly tired, and he was the same too.
he couldn’t help but to sigh at the way the moonlight enveloped her. he had loved her from the very first moment he caught his eyes on her; she caught him staring, called him out publicly and ignored all his advances. it took him a lot to court her. she’s a gojo, she can have anything and everything with the sky is the limit.
but one thing money could never buy is affection.
it started with little stuffs; noritoshi waiting for her with her lunch readied every day. it annoyed her but momo (who was secretly rooting for him) forced her to just do it. “it’s just a lunch,” momo said sheepishly. noritoshi would have them paired all the time for the missions. she’d accepted it with open heart. noritoshi would also teach her how to weld a bow and shoot arrows. she promised that she would go out on date with him if he taught her.
by the end of their first year, they became inseparable.
the idea of being apart from her hurts him physically and mentally. she took a sharp breath when he laced his fingers between her own, quickly telling the other person on the phone that she was okay. “it was just noritoshi,” she replied with a small laugh. their hands fit each other; his skin contrasted her slightly tanned skin. while his hands were rough from welding the bow and he kept his nail short and clean, hers were slightly softer with her nails painted prettily. this month she had her nails painted in pastel. all the girls’ day out with momo and mai had proven its importance. he was happy to provide her with his black card despite her discontent.
“analysing my hands now?”
he smiled slightly, “it looks very pretty. i guess i got my money worth. are they coming?”
she leaned on his shoulder, his own wrapped around her as she closed her eyes, “they are around the corner. i would definitely need another round this week,” she teased. kissing her forehead gently, he didn’t mind that his uniform was stained with her blood; he was glad that she’s safe.
“i’ll happily take you there.”
few years later;
noritoshi kamo almost lost his mind. the stadium was half destroyed, huge craters on the pitch with the sight of his wife nowhere to be found. he looked up to the black pitch curtain encasing the stadium area from the sky, a curse escaped his lips.
“where the fuck are you?” he grunted, scanning the area.
she is gone, his stubborn little wife. she could’ve just wait but annoyed that their dinner date was interrupted and eager because this was their first mission together as a married couple; she escaped his supervision. as they were dealing with minor curses outside, she decided to head on forward, leaving him to deal with whatever is left. he beat himself inside for letting her come, he could easily do this himself and send her home safely, but she blinked her eyes and he was weak. she always has her way with him.
his step stopped when he realised there was a shadow ahead.
“she’s pretty,” the thing said.
his blood ran cold, “what did you do to my wife?”
the curse let out a laugh. it was sinister enough to send chills down his spine. especially when he realised the head it was stepping on was his wife. her eyes were fluttering back and forth, struggling to stay awake. a howl shocked him, shivers down his spine at the painful whimpers her shikigami making. cursed spirits were devouring it alive, overwhelming it and chewing every part of its body. his wife was too weak to dispel the shikigami; it’s dangerous as the devoured wolf shikigami will drain her cursed energy by a second.
all shikigami linked directly to the owner; everything inflected to the wolf, she could feel it too.
he needed a plan.
hidden in his wedding ring was a retractable knife. he rarely carries blood bags anymore as his power solidified itself. the older he got, the better he was at using and controlling a small steady flow of his own blood straight from the tap. with a clap of his hands, the knife cut his hand enough to send blood shooting like bullets. the blood hit the curses straight to its cores, died out instantly on impact, but the shikigami was beyond salvageable. it let out one last howl, one last goodbye before dropping to the ground, half of his snout gone. she will be devastated, it’s her only shikigami she managed to tame at such a young age, but at least it has stopped the shikigami from stripping his wife’s cursed energy to its core.
the fire burning in his eyes only made the curse laughed. he kicked her body away, spurting blood out of her mouth. she was halfway close to death’s doorstep.
“i will fucking murder you,” he hissed.
“my blood is my power. it’s supposed to rot human, stripping its meat from the bone like acid. however,” the curse nudged her body, “your wife didn’t. humour me, did your blood tainted hers? tell me, i’m curious how.”
“are you going to chit chat because i don’t have whole day.” his blood dripped on the pitch.
the curse grinned, shrugging his shoulder. he kneeled, running his bloody fingers on her cheeks leaving trails of flowers pattern that dissipated immediately, “i’m not here to fight. i’m here to serve a warning,” he looked up to the tensed sorcerer, “for gojo satoru. tell him, we’ll be waiting for him in shibuya.” noritoshi’s face scrunched in confusion.
“we have no business with the gojos.”
“but she is. she could change her name, married you, but it doesn’t erase the fact that she carried gojo’s blood in her vein. she’s the bridge to your two clans. i’m just killing two birds with one stone. ruin the kamo clan’s relationship with gojos and hurt gojo satoru. all thanks to her,” the curse turned his back on him, his laugh echoed as he walked away. the dark curtain disappeared slowly as the ground rumbled. a perfect chance for noritoshi to strike if it wasn’t because of the cursed spirit’s words gluing him to his spot, “oh, kamo, i believe a congratulation is overdue. let me know when’s the baby is due, i would love to drop by personally.”
the pillar holding on to the roof collapsed sending wave of dust all over the place. noritoshi covered his face, coughing as he sucked some in, removing his coat as a shield. the cursed spirit was no where to be found.
“the place is going to collapse! i’ll get the curse, you go get her!”
a voice echoed and he caught a glimpse of blond hair running past him and noritoshi didn’t think twice as he sprinted around the cracks and holes. who was that voice or who was the curse, he couldn’t give a single fuck, he just wants his wife back. he was shaking when he got to her, arms immediately scooped her up in his arms. her chest was raising slowly, blood dripping on the side of her lips as she struggled to exhale.
“you’re going to be okay,”
he told her, but he wasn’t sure if he will ever be.
-
“can you turn down the stupid light, it’s hurting my eyes.”
the voice laughed melodiously, the light moved to the other eye repeating the same thing.
“as you can see, she’s awake, slightly weak, but she should be okay.”
another voice interrupted, “are you sure?” she gasped, excited to hear a familiar voice. “nori?” she called out, unable to open her eyes, relying strictly to her hearing as she reached her shaky hands out for him. “her senses might be slightly off, just let her do it herself,” the woman’s voice noted, and she felt annoyed. how dare you underestimate me, her mind scoffed.
“my senses are fine. see?” she claimed as she held noritoshi’s hand up. he smiled, gently rubbing her hand with encouragement. “thanks, shoko, we are fine.”
“i’ll leave you be then. call me if you need anything.”
she listened to the clacking of shoko’s heels, followed by the door opening and slamming shut. she jumped, but he held her hand tighter, reassuring her that it’s alright. “so why can’t i see?” she asked, confident that they are alone now. she felt the bed sunk a little on the left side, “you were high on anesthesia, i’m surprise you could even move your jaw to speak.” she felt a finger brushed her hair aside, breath loomed on her face and she could feel her own face reddening up.
“are you going to kiss me or are you just going to tease me?” his heart swell up, despite her shaky voice almost made him laugh.
“do you trust me?” his hand cupped her cheek gently.
she nodded eagerly, “always.”
“good.”
his kiss hit her like a waft of fresh air. every kiss felt like a first kiss to her that she couldn’t help to react so eagerly to it. his tongue slipped through her defense, overwhelming her taste buds with such strong taste of iron. it didn’t stop her. she knew what he was doing from start. he peeked a little, didn’t stop a second from kissing her as he watched his blood marking appeared on her face. her hands went up around her neck pulling him closer and he obeyed, deepening the kiss.
heal; his mind commanded.
after a while, she pulled back, being the one to break apart from the kiss first, her chest raising up and down as she struggled to catch her breath. her eyes were wide open now, fluttering lazily as she leaned back on the propped-up pillow. he wiped the corner of his lips, eyes on her as he watched the open wound on her face and arms slowly closed leaving the fresh healed red marks behind. he relaxed when he heard a thank you coming from her, as she checked her healed arms.
“i’m disappointed with you,” he finally broke the silence.
“really?” she frowned. he always does this thing where he will immediately go into lecture mood every time she does something that pisses him off. it’s almost like a game to her as she waited for him to explode, “right now? not even going to wait until i’m discharged. this is a new record, toshi. like shoko said, i’m fine.” he shook his head, “it doesn’t make it right. you always disobeyed me. ignored my orders, going about with your goddamn big head, you could’ve been killed.”
she rolled her eyes, noritoshi is being noritoshi, what a drama queen, she mentally rolled her eyes, “but i’m not,” she pushed her hair back, twisting it easily into a simple loose knot, “i told you, i am not weak.”
“your shikigami was destroyed, your blood was poisoned, 70 percent was already circulating to every part of your vein, i had to beg for the higher up to help purify your blood,” her smile died down. this game no longer feels fun for her. noritoshi was really mad this time. “you think it’s fun and all game but game over, y/n. you need to stop doing this. if you can’t do it for me, do it for yourself.”
“leave me alone, nori, if you just going to nag, please i don’t want to hear it. i’m tired.”
it made him angry that she was taking his word lightly. running his hand in his messy hair, he felt like hauling his head to the wall.
“you don’t understand-”
she slammed her hand on the bed, interrupting his words, “no YOU don’t understand me, i’m tired of you babying me. i’m an adult, i am your wife, stop treating me like a fucking child! we have been married for months, but god you’re suffocating me.”
“i will when you stop endangering yourself. i will stop treating your like a child when you stop acting like one. you’re pregnant, for the love of god!” he threw his hand on the wall. the wall cracked from the force. “i’m what?” she felt the world stopped spinning. she was hundred percent sure that her ears and head were deceiving her. he removed his hand from the hole he made on the wall, his body shaking from the amount of anger building up.
“noritoshi, answer me! what do you mean- i’m not pregnant, i had my period this month.”
“you are,” he shrugged. he felt something hit him in the back; looking down he saw the fluffy white pillow sitting by his feet.
he pointed to the bedside table where a sonogram perched up against a tissue box. she was about to lose her mind. “this is not funny, if this is your mean way of fucking me up because i won’t listen to you then this is just fucking cruel.”
he marched towards him, his hand went down on his chin, forcing her eyes on him, “until you stop playing your stupid games, until you stop treating your life like it’s nothing, until you consider my feelings and my worries, as your husband is valid, i do not exist in your life,” tears fell down her cheeks, “like you, i’m tired too.
“nori i-“
he left her before she could say a word. she broke into sob; her chest was pounding so hard that the blood pressure monitor was beeping. the door burst opened but it was not the face she wanted to see. she was immediately hysterical. satoru managed to hold her wrist down before she ripped the tubes and needles off her arms. “no, no, i want nori. where is he!” she screamed as satoru held her down. “you need to calm down, it’s not good for the baby,” satoru cooed, but she was not having it. he turned to shoko, “her cursed energy is skyrocketing, she’s going hysterical, do something!”
“let me go!”
shoko held out a syringe, “hold her down.”
she screamed, thrashing so rough that she almost slipped out of the strongest sorcerer’s hands. she managed to get a needle out before she felt another sharp pain on her back. shoko pulled the empty needle out and they retreated away as she fell on her butt backward. she was reduced to a babbling mess, her eyes drooped as she struggled to fight the waves of sleepiness hitting her one after another.
“tell him i’m sorry,” she croaked out, before everything turned completely dark.
the blood pressure monitor returned back to normal.
three days later;
“are you still going to ignore her? it’s been 3 days.”
“she needs to learn her place.”
gojo satoru disagreed. he eyed the head of the clan, shaking his head before standing up. he thought he could convince noritoshi kamo to visit his wife, but the man was as stubborn as- huh, her.
“i think she have learned enough, she’s miserable. you’re miserable.”
the man glared at the blonde man child, raising the cup of tea up for a sip. the tea doesn’t taste as good as the way she made it. he left her for 3 days and he found himself struggling to do everything alone.
he, noritoshi kamo, 23 years old and the head of the kamo family, could not make a cup of fucking tea.
she always said that the best way to make tea depends on how long you let it steep. “too early and you won’t get the right amount of flavour,” she explained, her back facing him as he watched from the counter as she loomed over the stove, “but if you steep it way too long you going to burn the tea leaves and it will make everything taste bitter.” she turned around, a huge smile on her face that made his heart skipped a beat.
he frowned; the tea tasted bitter.
“she’s pregnant, she’s supposed to be crazy. you are supposed to be the wise one. she is going to carry your child for 9 long months, i can’t explain to you how long that’s going to be but she is allowed to be crazy.”
he dropped the cup on the floor when gojo’s hand grabbed him by his collar, pulling him up from his chair.
“now please, see your goddamn wife before i deck you in the mouth.”
“i will.”
satisfied with his answer, gojo’s demeanor changed and he was again the man child they all know of him. noritoshi could no longer focus on the report in front of him; not when his mind is full of her and only her.
would she forgive him? he wasn’t sure.
but he would spend his lifetime making up to her and the baby if that’s necessary.
