Greetings! I'm asking the reverse of a question from a few weeks ago.
Who would be each ASOIAF character's favourite X-man, or mutant if you prefer? Obviously there's a lot of ASOIAF characters, only whoever strikes your fancy of course.
Thanks!
I could have sworn I had done this years ago, but I think I must have gotten a draft or something eaten back in 2018 when I did the reverse of this. In order to make this a bit more manageable, I'm going to stick with ASOIAF POV characters only.
Bran - Xavier. A morally ambiguous disabled psychic. Kind of over-determined, really.
Catelyn - Madelyne Pryor. A wronged wife with red hair granted dark powers to wreak revenge.
Daenerys - Jean Grey. A woman of immense supernatural power who literally walks through fire? C'mon.
Eddard - Cyclops. Honorable warrior respects honorable warrior.
Jon - also Cyclops, but only after the Dark Phoenix Saga.
Arya - Laura Kinney or Gabby. Not sure which.
Sansa - starts as Firestar fan (justice for Lady Butterrum!) ends as Emma Frost stan.
Tyrion - this is more a deep cut, but I think Tyrion would be a huge Whiz-Kid fan, especially his S.W.O.R.D era incarnation.
Theon - I think Theon would be a Quentin Quire fan; something about the combination of great potential and raging insecurity.
Davos - Gambit comes closest, but I could see an argument for Storm, especially Storm's depowered era.
Melisandre - Rachel Summers. Fire, Mother Askani prophecies, the whole shebang.
Jaime - big fan of the Fenris twins. Just kidding. He's super into Angel/Warren Worthington III, and has confused thoughts about whether Warren is better off with Candy Southern or Psylocke.
Brienne - super into the Captains Britain.
Samwell Tarly - I think he'd be a Beast fan, but Percy's X-Force would make him very sad.
Aeron Greyjoy - Exodus is another predetermined choice.
Victarion Greyjoy - doesn't see why Sabertooth has such a bad reputation.
Asha Greyjoy - big Laura Kinney fan.
Arienne Martell - I could see her being an Emma Frost stan.
Barristan Selmy - Cable. Again, white-haired grizzled soldier who protects children of destiny. Not a hard pick.
Quentyn Martell - has a soft spot for Beak.

When people describe asoiaf as grimdark it makes me tear at the wallpaper. Do you think that label is from a misunderstanding of the text/only a surface level reading, or the way got portrayed the books?
i mean, on one hand, i get it. there ARE parts of asoiaf that are very deeply nihilistic and cynical. especially compared with other mainstream fantasy. it became really trite to associate got/asoiaf with constant character death… but it IS a departure from the standard! maybe you’d get a mentor or supporting figure dying, your obi wans and boromirs, but ned, cat and robb, oberyn.. these are shocking moments for a reason lol. they ARE subversive! and quentyn and tyrion in adwd in particular feel truly angry and pessimistic. there’s plenty of grimness and darkness to mine from. But firstly, there is…. nothing wrong with being “grimdark”! it’s not wrong to refuse to write about utopias, or to be ultimately cynical and pessimistic about human nature, or for characters not to get what they (as decided by the ~ultimate morality~ of the author) “deserve”— aka the ultimate building block of tragedy. i want more angry art, more art that makes you miserable! sometimes the world does feel hopeless lmao like it’s okay to wallow in the darkness of the human soul or whatever!! asoiaf is not as a whole grimdark, but if it was, that wouldnt be an immoral way to write! (and i dont think GOT is even that much more grimdark than the books— its problem is that it is.. extremely badly written, not that x character didnt get y happy ending therefore it is bad 🤷🏻♂️)
i probably dont need to reiterate why it ISNT grimdark— theon adwd, sam, brienne, et cetera, you know the gist. better writers than me have talked about this. i think it’s a bit troubling that a story can get a dismissive response just for genuinely being interested in the whole ugly picture of human experience lol. idk if it’s YA brain or ted lasso kindnesscore or what, and maybe it’d be dismissive to attribute it just to that. but tbh, i dont think the people who write those 50k note posts on here or twitter about how asoiaf is ontologically evil for portraying a broken world have actually read the books at all. there’s plenty of ways to engage in actual criticism of the series if you wanted to. but they are really not interested in having a conversation about themes and stuff, they just want an easy dunk ❤️ so whatever

I've been reading your ASOIAF asks and I wanted to ask if you mind elaborating on a few things you have brought up: "If I may make a bigger speculative leap, Theon’s psychosexual proclivities in general greatly suggest someone who’s experienced severe sexual abuse in their childhood. With Theon, it goes beyond just a guy who likes sex a lot, but the way he seems fixated on the perverse and the degradation of women as an obession with reclaiming control and power (As well as just a purely disordered relationship with sex in general). (And if you’re reading Theon through a queer lens, that’s just an additional layer to this onion)." Talk about this, please. I used to hate Theon, even before the Red Wedding, and it was definitely his treatment of women. But from this lens, it really opens my eyes. "...or up there with Sansa, Aegon Blackfyre, and Quentyn Martell as a condemnation of the genre." Can you talk more about how you see GRRM condeming the genre?
Wow anon, thank you? I do hope you get something out of my ridiculous rambles lol
I do stand by what I said above about Theon above. The thing to keep in mind is that none of this is meant to be a "Hey Theon isn't as bad as you remember bc secret x reasons." Everything about him and what he does prior to the Red Wedding is absolutely horrible and a hypothetical queerness doesn't absolve him of that.
I just think it's something interesting to think about especially in how it relates to his ironborn culture in general. One of the things I always thought was really fascinating that we only saw in Theon's first chapter (and perhaps one of the few fond memories that Theon has throughout his arc) is when he thinks about Patrek Mallister. He thinks of Robb with fondness, but as a little brother, but Patrek was his bro-- they rode together, drank together, had threesomes together. When he arrives at Pyke, Patrek is who he wishes was with him. But it's Jason Mallister, Patrek's father, that is really against their friendship and tries to break it up. That's important because the Mallisters and ironborn/Greyjoys have been enemies for centuries.
So right off the bat we have an instance of a true friendship from Theon, something that's just his, and it's quickly reduced to something shameful and wrong because of circumstances beyond Theon's own control. (And I don't think it's a coincidence that in the Ice and Fire world book, there's a mention of a historical Greyjoy lord and a Mallister having a 'great and tragic friendship').
Theon is constantly searching for validation and acceptance, even if it's bought and paid for with sex workers, or out of fear with women he coerces. (He doesn't even care about the women he has sex with, just his own ego and gratification and how good it feels to be wanted and thought of highly- because his Name is the only thing that can grant him this, and he knows that).
When he does get a genuine relationship (with Patrek), it's taken away. When he tries to fit into his family, he's chastised for being wrong- he isn't ironborn in the 'right' way, and when he tries to prove himself (with Winterfell), that's wrong too. I think it creates a real loneliness in him, and a sort of isolation. He's in a position that no one else around him can relate to, but he's also being told the kind of person he should be; what kind of ironborn he should already known how to be, how grateful he should have been to the Starks, etc. And all of this totally negating the Reek era, which hinges on sexual depravity, having his sexuality being used against him as a punishment and comeuppance.
And so to sort of link that back to my thoughts of Theon having experienced sexual abuse, I think this is what sort of exacerbates all of the existing feelings above. Having this sort of ingrained sense of shame, loss of control, emotional isolation will only be heightened as he's gotten older because even if he doesn't think about it, but so clearly soaks everything else about him.
And to your second question, I think 'condemns' is maybe not the correct word, but he certainly subverts the genre with these and other kinds of characters. Sansa is the lady in distress in need of rescue that will have to rescue herself if she wants to be saved. Quentyn is the hero lad who did everything right to go on this grand adventure to win the dragon and the girl, but the dragon kills him and his mission was pointless. Aegon Blackfyre is either a con, subverting the secret prince returned, or he's real and all of his well-intended efforts are shattered. But it's not all ~subversion for subversions sake~ edgy shock and value and all. I think GRRM wants the reader to read these events as more complex than what's presented, a character is more complex than the trope they're boxed into. It's about the songs being a fantasy, the true knights are the unexpected ones (brienne), doing the right thing can still make you a villain (jaime), despite how much of a villain someone is, you're still forced to see them as a human being (cersei), the pursuit of revenge doesnt equate justice or happiness but just perpetuates an endless cycle of death and trauma (martells).
i feel like people smarter than me have said more about both topics, but i hope this answered your question some!
#anon#asoiaf#long thots#sorry if this is confusing ive got a hurricane coming so im a little stressed#asoiaf ask

More positivity asks. List some of your favourite Asoiaf chapters.
We do need some more positivity!
Just some chapters off the top of my head: AGOT Prologue (good horror atmosphere), AGOT Jon (epic diss track), AGOT Eddard XII (Ned’s compassion and Cersei’s humanity), AGOT Catelyn XI and Daenerys X (making the triumphal crowning moment of the heroes so ominous), ACOK Prologue (poor Cressen), all the Blackwater chapters (but especially Sansa VII), ACOK Arya X (she’s done with wooden teeth), ACOK Bran VII (Winterfell is still here), ASOS pretty much all of Samwell and Jon’s later chapters, ASOS Davos IV, ASOS Jaime V-VI (trauma dump then rescue of Brienne), ASOS Arya IV (interactions with Lady Smallwood are so sweet), ASOS Arya XI-XII (she tried so hard, she was almost there), ASOS Sansa V (she escapes!), ASOS Sansa VII (she’s building the snow castle), AFFC Arianne II, AFFC Brienne IV (broken men speech), AFFC Brienne VII (no chance and no choice), AFFC Alayne I & II (she’s showing her skills; also Mya), ADWD Davos I (what if we prevail), ADWD The Dragontamer (poor Quentyn), ADWD Davos IV (the mummer’s farce is over) ADWD Theon I (finally recovering his identity), ADWD Daenerys X (I see dark times ahead)
Basically if anyone gives a cool sounding speech, or there’s payoff to a character arc, I like it

GoT and Vikings (currently bingewatching this one with Merel!) for the Ask meme😘
Thank you, lovely dear! These are going to be ranty fun. :D
1. GoT A Song of Ice and Fire (show adaption? Never heard of her.)
The first character I fell in love with: Arya Stark (even though these feelings simmered down to lukewarm with everybook. But she’s still in my “endeared” category.)
The character who is my ‘baby’: Theon Greyjoy, always my brave, idiot, MILF-loving, resiliant, kraken baby
The character who I do not understand: Bran. (I like him as a chracter his chapters aren’t always my cup of tea though...)
The character that I think the show ruined: All of them. They fundamentally misunderstood their core narratives which payed of in high cost after they ran out of book material to adapt. The most prominent victims of D&D’s incompentence were... Sansa, Theon, Arya, Daenerys (Oh Dany fans you didn’t deserve that), Tyrion, Bran
The most attractive male and female character: these will be such subjective anwers, brace yourselves... Edmure Tully (I’m weak for red hair), Theon Greyjoy (the fandom misses out on the Greyjoys canonically being smoking hot and daf), Quentyn Martell [most attractive male (to me)] Arianne Martell, Sansa Stark, Val the Wildling Princess [most attractive women (to me)]
The character death that was the worst for me: Catelyn Stark (the grief in her last pages... ouch!)
The character that is the most like me: Mya Stone (Yay, Donkeys!)
The character I think the writer(s) love: Sansa Stark, Brienne of Tarth, Jon Snow, Stannis Baratheon
The character that I just want to be happy: (basically team give these children a f*cking break) THEON Greyjoy, Sansa Stark, Brienne of Tarth, Jaime Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Tommen Barahteon, Myrecella Baratheon, Rickon Stark, Sam Tarly, Bran Stark, the REAL Aegon VI Targaryen, Shireen Baratheon, Jeyne Poole
My four favorite characters, past or present: Sansa Stark, Theon Greyjoy, Garlan Tyrell (aka. the only decent person in House Tyrell), Stannis Baratheon (extra: Roose Bolton as my favourite villain)
My four least favorite characters, past or present: Ramsay Bolton, Walder Frey, Margaery Tyrell, Pycelle
2. Vikings (only watched until season 4)
The first character I fell in love with: Helga
The character who is my ‘baby’: Björn Lothbrok (he will always be baby)
The character who I do not understand: Judith (seriously, what was this mess of character “developement”?)
The character that I think the show ruined: well that thing with Lagertha in Season 5 didn’t need to happen but since I only heard about the outrage however not watch it myself, I consider myself rather contempt
The most attractive male and female character: Ivar the Boneless [most attractive male (to me)] Lagertha [most attractive woman (to me)]
The character death that was the worst for me: Queen Kwenthrith (fuck you, Judith!)
The character that is the most like me: if I intended to flatter myself I would say Helga, but I suspect I have streaks of Floki.
The character I think the writer(s) love: Lagertha, Ivar, Ragnar Lothbrok, Björn Lothbrok, Floki
The character that I just want to be happy: Siggy... (forever sad Lagertha x Siggy didn’t happen), Atheleastan, Helga
My four favorite characters, past or present: Queen Kwenthrith of Mercia, Ivar the Boneless, Siggy, Helga
My four least favorite characters, past or present: Aslaug, Judith (none else in particular)

Friday & March?
Aw thanks m’dear!
Friday: most self-indulgent fic you have ever posted?
I write a lot of rarepairs and crack aus so I think it’s pretty safe to say MOST of my fics fall into the ‘self-indulgent’ and purely for my own jollies categories. I mean you’ve got ones with pairings that I just DIG a lot (even if few other people do lol): Catelyn x Theon, Jaime x Loras, Stannis x Lyanna, Daenerys x Quentyn...the list goes on. Then you have the REALLY specific aus that I’m never sure entirely work, but they make me happy, like my True Grit thing (listen I freakin love a good Western au, ok? lol) or that time I made Jon into Baby in ‘Dirty Dancing’ 😂.
March: do you listen to music whilst writing?
Yes and no. Sometimes specific tunes can set le mood. Sometimes I like to play rain or other kinds of background noise to get in the zone. Or I just do the best of both worlds with Rainy Mood.
Emmy’s doing an ask meme y’all!
Ask Me Things About Fic
#misshoneywheeler#my TRULY self-indulgent fics are the ones that live only on my google drive lol#thanks doll#emmy is BORED and distracting herself from being productive#come play with me#send me things

Hey, I love this blog! Just wondering, if you guys have capacity, it would be really interesting to see a list of all the rarepairs you've collected so far, together with how many fics they've got on AO3!
We were way too curious to know the numbers not to do this!
So far, we’ve received 478 prompts for 230 different ships for over 100 different characters. …That’s a lot.
All the ships are listed below the cut along with their current fic count on ao3.

Asoiaf for the fandom meme?
I already did asoiaf for the fandom edition meme. So I’ll do asoiaf for this one:
the first character i ever fell in love with: Bran
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Edmure, I guess? I don’t hate him but I definitely used to like him more
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: Sansa x Margaery
my ultimate favorite character™: Brienne, probably
prettiest character: Arianne
my most hated character: Walder Frey
my OTP: Jeyne x Theon, though it doesn’t have to be romantic or sexual at all, I just like them together
my NOTP: Melisandre x Stannis, I don’t like it at all and I never have
favorite episode: I’ve seen like four episodes of the show four years ago
saddest death: uhh, maybe my son Quentyn?
favorite season:
least favorite season:
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: I don’t think a lot of people like him but more than I thought and I hate Jorah with a burning hatred
my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: I think Theon qualifies though I hesitate to call a sexual assault survivor trash but I do still love him
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Arya, Sansa, Shireen, Myrcella, unfortunately I could probably go on for awhile
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: Ned x Cersei, I think the dynamics are super fun
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: I think Val x Ygritte would be tons of fun

July Replies❤️
I haven’t replied to followers for a whole month. Please forgive me for that.
@scipisims: I remember this scene :) You did a great job!!
Thank you so much! Actually, I wanted to do that scene according to the books. There it takes place in a huge vault of the castle. But I was too lazy and so I used the gardens I created after the show. Cool, you saw similarities!
@andantezen Sansa is a beauty. And I always love the green people! :
She’d definitely be glad to hear 😊!!! And I know your fondness of my green sims. I always have you in mind when doing these scenes. They are my favourite Game of Thrones family for the court life and glamour. Green and Gold - beautiful colour match 💓
@mentally-restlessI love lady olenna 💛
Me, too! 💛 May the Queen of Thornes rule forever. (Hope the stupid show keeps her alive).
@lifeasasim You nailed it again, my friend!
Thanks! This was one of the few cases where I wanted the show location to be recognisable. Normally, I’d do book versions.
@declarations-of-drama: Very sad - and also how to blow a date lesson 101! Sansa was trying so hard to compliment Ser Tyrell and ending up offending him :(
Let me comment: The problem is that Loras was gay and in love with that mentioned guy who was his sister’s husband. Sansa (and dozens of other girls didn’t know). Mentioning his dead lover made Loras angry.
@dreamywritingdragon: Sansa + Tyrells! I'm so glad you made this!
One of my favourite scenes, so...I really prefer that Sansa over that stupid show version by Sophie Turner.
@westerosims: Poor Quentyn. THIS IS SO COOL BY THE WAY. I am coming back after a few hours to say I love the way it looks, especially in that last with with Rhaegal and the fire 😍
THANKS, my soul mate! 😍 I always love playing with sims and fire. Maybe I have some Targaryen blood😂
@lifeasasim: These scenes!!!! OMG
THANKS! That’s one character and scene non-book reader missed.
@simblu: Epic pix!
@declarations-of-drama: OMG!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!
@declarations-of-drama: But what are they doing with the knives? Killing him? Gutting him? Also, I know you like constructive feedback, so I don't know the story originally but in my head I wished for the crossbow to be made out of wood - or not to be a crossbow - just a bow and arrow - details of my brain that I don't understand lol - I am probably so wrong here :D
Yes, the “Little Birds” kill him. You’re right about the crossbow. Unfortunately, rhis was the only one which looked real and simlish. I thought it was recolourable. When I noticed it wasn’t I was too lazy searching for another.
@declarations-of-drama: And the bald guy is Uncle Fester :D
Varys the Eunuch? I see a certain resemblance. Here’s Varys’ show version:
@westerosims: Lmao well I don't mind! Tyene is beautiful she can keep them out all she wants. I was just curious because it's always so unpredictable in my queue.
Another Tyene fan!!!!!! YES!. I love that you love her, too. And I’m glad this wasn’t rated NSFW!!!
@declarations-of-drama: Lovely! And are those the functional flutes I saw at MTS last week? I want to try them out but was going to wait for Arsil to work on the other instruments and updates before use.+
They are just an CAS object and some poses. Found them on some Asian site but don’t asked me where. Didn’t understand the language. Link was broken and it was detective’s work to locate them.
@newlibertysims: Shame! *DING* Shame! *DING* Shame!
Yeah, that’s a SHAME what Cersei did! Thanks for your comment which made me realise you are a fan, too. Welcome. If you have a favourite scene I could do with sims, you may suggest. Also feedback of people familiar with GOT is welcome.
@declarations-of-drama:That feels sad. I feel sad for her loss. But I love the deco as always looks so grand and lush!! The placement with the chair arm is particularly clever! lol
Don’t feel sad. Cersei’s a nasty bitch. But I like her. She sleeps with her brother when her despised husband is still alive. And as soon as her brother is away for a few weeks, she takes a poor copy to her bed: her cousin.
@declarations-of-drama: All this talk of GOT new season and all I know about it is from your stories :D You are educating the Simblr community lol x
I really don’t want to force my GOT obsession on other people. My posts are a bit different from the show because I maily use the books (A Song of Ice and Fire) as main source.
@declarations-of-drama: Oh yeah, also meant to say, so it's an actual game#? like Chess? I might have to watch it lol
The Game of Thrones is a common saying. A metaphor for intrigue, politics and power play. You might like it if violence doesn’t bother you too much and if you have a heart for really complex characters, many people and politics.
@andantezen: I love how you captured movement and drama in the first picture especially. We can hear him go down.
Thank you! I think it’s always a matter of the poses you have. I can’t make them myself (, yet). So, I heavily rely on the work other’s did.
@declarations-of-drama: YEah I think how I might have to watch at least some of the first season to see what I think and then I would have a point of reference for your lovely stories which I can only appreciate for their beauty and work you put into them and not for the love of the story behind them x
Try it if you want! All my RL friends got addicted to it after my recommendation. But sometimes it’s nice to have followers who don’t know the original. You only judge what I did with sims.
@danjaley: Until just now it never occurred to me that those riding poses actually can be used in a flirty context! :D
@declarations-of-drama: I love how you got them to pose on the horse like that and it looks so natural! As I typed that I read Danjaley's comment above and said 'Oh!!!' lol
Thank you both! If you aren’t a posemaker yourself, you must rely on what others did. And I always rely on @danjaley! Your poses tell stories. I use them in so many different ways, combine them in ways you may not expect. THANKS for your creativity. The cheat “disablesnappingtoslotsonalt” also helps a lot!
@treason-and-plot: Theon is a wee bit arrogant isn't he? :P
THANKS for making this point. He is sometimes an asshole. Maybe Game of Thrones’ equivalent to your Roy ;-). But sometimes, his cocky attitude could be little bit sexy. As you don’t watch GOT, it is no spoiler if I say: he changes heavily, gets broken and becomes a shadow of his former self.

ASoIaF/GoT Tag game
I was tagged by @thefeatherofhope (x), @musingsofaquietmind (x), @bluelemonsforever (x), @azraelgfg (x), @awinterbornrose (x)
Rules: Answer the questions and then tag seven people.
1) The first character I fell in love with: Bran Stark. What is there not to love. And then he gets pushed out the window in his second POV chapter
2) A character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Jeyne Poole (omg she even lost a part of her nose from frostbite. poor girl can't catch a brake even when running away from Ramsay)
3) A character everyone else loves that I don't: Arya Stark (I dislike people liking her for her badassery. As if it's a good thing that a preteen is becoming a cold-hearted murderer. All my Starklings have lost their childhood and it's the saddest thing in all the saga)
4) A character I love that everyone else hate: Sansa Stark (I have a feeling of living a Sansa-fan-bubble and when I take a step outside that bubble everyone hates her, and the TV show hasn't helped that)
5) A character I used to love but don't any longer: Tyrion
6) A character I would kiss: Garlan :D
7) A character I'd slap: Theon (pre-Reek, he is such a douche dude bro -_-) & Quentyn ()
8) A character I want to be like: Alys Karstark (she knows her rights and is ready to fight for it
9) A character who makes me laugh : Doloress Edd
10) A character I miss: Sandor (really hope he is getting out of that island real soon)
11) A pairing I love: Sansan (duh!)
12) A pairing I don't like: Petansa
I tag @sassyeggs74 @drgns8er @zip00198704 @hobo-logical @junojelli @naturesinmyeye @allthedances

Can I ask what are your top ten favourite ASOIAF characters?
Of course you can ask that, anon :) I tend to love making top x' of everything! With aosiaf it's been set for a long time though, the problem is that a top 10 isn't big enough, so I have a top 7 that doesn't change and then I have a bunch of characters that I want in my top 10 but there's not enough space for them so I'll give you a top 20 instead :) 1. Theon Greyjoy2. Ramsay Bolton (NEVER SNOW!!)3. Jaime Lannister 4. Lancel Lannister5. Cersei Lannister6. Jon Snow7. Sansa Stark8. Euron Greyjoy9. Edmure Tully10. Viserys Targaryan11. Asha Greyjoy12. Hi again~ I've got three questions if that's alright? =>How do you feel of Catelyn's dislike of & treatment of Jon?What is your opinion on Renly and his decision to crown himself rather than stand with Stannis? What do you think of Edmure Tully and hoe Robb & Blackfish blamed him for their plan (that they never bother informing him of) failing and how they convinced him to marry to fix Robb's on mistake? I fee like Edmure was treated unfairly.
1) How do you feel of Catelyn’s dislike of & treatment of Jon? I like Catelyn, but I am critical of her behavior in this respect.
On the one hand I have sympathy for her—society makes her dependent on her husband and places most of her worth as a human being on her capacity to birth trueborn children, so to an extent I get why she cannot bring herself to openly confront ned about it, and why she has so much anxiety over jon “stealing” her children’s birthright (also, as a woman, as someone who’s not a mother and feels occasionally the pressure to become one, I rage against the idea that a woman “must” feel a motherly instinct by default regardless of circumstances, and if she doesn’t then she is a bad person). On the other hand, Catelyn’s treatment of Jon is objectively inexcusable. It’s not limited to not being able to feel affection for the kid, it’s downright dehumanizing (she refuses to call him by his name, makes sure he knows he’s unwanted there, makes him literally scared of her, she basically inflicts all the damage she can get away with under Ned’s nose). Catelyn had every right to be pissed at Ned for forcing his bastard on her without an explanation, but she should have never put the blame on JON. Jon was a child, had no responsibility in the choices any of the adults made, and deserved to be raised in a healthy, loving environment just as much as his siblings did, end of the story.
2) What is your opinion on Renly and his decision to crown himself rather than stand with Stannis? Extremely poor. Renly had zero legitimate reasons to proclaim himself as king. What he did was an arrogant, selfish move based on an “I’m the stronger and cooler one with the bigger army” logic that, if successful, could have set a TERRIBLE precedent for the realm.
3) What do you think of Edmure Tully and how Robb & Blackfish blamed him for their plan? Edmure was given specific orders by his king (who didn’t owe him an explanation), and decided to override them to prove himself as a bold leader. But this is war, coordination is crucial, and Martin immediately frames Edmure’s decision as shortsighted and doomed to fail from every perspective (a sympathetic but bad motivation; a poor judgment of people; a disregard for Catelyn’s attempts to make him reason; a bad track record on the battlefield). I like Edmure, and I think his desire to prove himself was genuine and not motivated by malice or selfishness, but he made a mistake. (more details on this post)
Also! Do you think it ever occurred to Tywin that having Cersei marry Loris could backfire? Like if she had done so and given birth to a child from him with dark hair, wouldn’t that just prove that her children weren’t Robert’s with how dark hair is such a strong trait in the family? You’d think he’d try marrying her to a blond haired man just in case.
Cersei x Loras is show canon only, in the books Loras joins the Kingsguard and Tywin considers various candidates:
“So long as you remain unwed, you allow Stannis to spread his disgusting slander,” Lord Tywin told his daughter. “You must have a new husband in your bed, to father children on you. […] You will marry and you will breed. Every child you birth makes Stannis more a liar. […] I have considered the Redwyne twins, Theon Greyjoy, Quentyn Martell, and a number of others. But our alliance with Highgarden was the sword that broke Stannis. It should be tempered and made stronger. Ser Loras has taken the white and Ser Garlan is wed to one of the Fossoways, but there remains the eldest son, the boy they scheme to wed to Sansa Stark.“
the *chosen one* is Willas, but Olenna nixes it so there’s never an actual betrothal, though Tywin remains determined until the end to find another husband for his daughter. But, book and show canon alike, he is clearly not concerned about Cersei possibly having babies with different hair color this time around, because in his mind the twincest simply doesn’t exist. He’s in deep denial—his children? His golden twins? No fucking way, it’s too humiliating, Stannis is a liar and a fraud, it must be. (whether he intimately, or on some subconscious level, knew it to be true, we will never know because we don’t have his pov.) He’s not thinking rationally, as proven by his belief that if he gets to make Cersei behave and she pops out more children, the rumors will magically go away. At any rate, history is made by winners, and Tywin is determined to win this game. Once they’ve won, if he says that the incest is false, then the incest is false.
keep also in mind that the hair color thing is how Jon Arryn first and Ned later came to solve the puzzle, not actual evidence of the incest (which can’t be proven for sure, unless one of the parts involved confesses it). Neither it was the source of the rumor or the reason it spread like wildfire—prior to Jon & Ned’s investigation nobody seemed to find the kids’ hair color suspicious at all, and it took Ned an examination of the entire Baratheon/Lannister genealogy AND an offhand but enlightening remark by Sansa to finally see the truth. Yes, Stannis planned to use Edric Storm as “proof” that Robert’s true children look a lot like Robert himself, but this is an age when there are no pictures, photographs, or accurate visual media to spread information with, and MOST people have no idea how the royal family looks like, at all. Even Stannis admitted that showing Edric Storm to each and every person in the realm was not feasible.
Cersei having a dark haired child from a man who isn’t Robert (or even a Baratheon) would be little proof in the eyes of people who have no concept of genetics and (especially the nobleborn) understand that claiming illegitimacy on the only basis of physical resemblance or lack thereof is a slippery slope. In two years, everybody could claim that (x) lord’s son and heir isn’t trueborn because he looks nothing like his father! In other words, hair color can’t be used consistently as factual evidence of adultery.
