As of precisely 5 seconds ago, I’ve officially finished listening to Epic the Musical, and I wanted to talk about that for a second. For months I’ve refused to shut up about being an ‘OG fan’, because I found Jay Herran’s account before he even released the first saga, but none of that matters now, because the journey that this fandom has been on has been beautiful. Coincidentally, I began studying the Odyssey in my Classics lessons around the time I discovered Epic, so in addition to being an incredible musical, this show has been a comfort and companion throughout my revision, reminding me of key plot points and encouraging me to take a further interest in mythology. I listen to at least one Epic song a day, I truly think that it’s the best musical to ever exist. I was too young to fully appreciate Hamilton when it was released, but Epic is the Hamilton of the 2020s - Jay Herrans is a phenomenal composer and a genuinely wonderful man from what I’ve seen of him on social media. He and the Epic team have achieved ever so much in such a short amount of time - they have a production company, they’ve achieved Billboard success with several chart-topping sagas, Jay and Talya have found love together, and as I type this, they are all in Ithaca together celebrating the release of the final saga of their acclaimed musical. I listened to the final song of the Ithaca saga with tears in my eyes, because the Epic team’s own Odyssey has been awe-inspiring, I’m so proud and amazed of everything that they’ve achieved, and I sincerely hope that Epic is adapted, either to the stage, as a video game, or as an animated film. Epic is too important, too special and sacred, to be forgotten by the world.

Today marks a special occasion...

Today marks a year since the first time I listened to Les Miserables. It was the 2012 live recording, which I still stand by as the best Les Miserables cast. Not even 2 days later, I bought my first copy of the book - a super short, 400 page abridged version. I quickly joined the Tumblr community and doodles began to slowly make their way into my sketchbooks.

Les Miserables changed my life, I think, for the better. I made such amazing friends and learned so much about history. I read my first classic and reignited my love for literature. My singing improved tenfold over this winter holiday because I began to study Les Miserables, and my obsession gave me the passion to move forward. My writing style truly became its own as well.

I Dreamed a Dream was the first song I sang in 2024. I remember coming home from watching the fireworks and seeing my phone say Jan 1, 2024, and thinking to myself what the first thing I was gonna sing was. I belted I Dreamed I Dream as I got ready for bed. I don't have anything special to commemorate today, I think I might work on fanart or something of the sort. Maybe I'll record a cover later.

All this to say, I am thankful for Les Miserables. I truly don't think I'd be who I am today without it. Hell, I literally have Enjolras as my profile picture right now!

The fun thing about musicals is if you listen to them enough they will be ingrained in your brain.

Even after you move on from them it's like It's asleep in your mind and when a song comes on your suddenly singing Michael in the bathroom like you yourself are Michael and probably having a breakdown or somthing
