Grand Europe Adventure 2024 - Admiring The Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Spanish Steps, Rome Italy

It's another beautiful sunny day in Rome which means more places to explore in the city!

First stop is The Spanish Steps which is made famous in the classic Roman Holiday film staring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. Noteworthy is that the public is banned from sitting on the steps after a major cleaning and restoration project in 2016 with €400 fines being handed out to offenders.

Next stop is The Trevi Fountain which is the most popular fountain in the city for tourist to visit and capture beautiful shots of the spectacular fountain. It is highly advisable to visit before 8am to avoid the crowds.

Final pitstop is Piazza del Popolo which was once the traditional entrance point to the city where ���all roads lead to Rome”.

And finally, the highlight of the day: The Pantheon. It was built originally as a temple to all gods and later turned into a church, renowned for its dome which is the largest unsupported dome in the world.

1768 saw construction begin on a magnificent new Paris church dedicated to St. Genevieve. 260 years later, and now serving as a secular mausoleum for distinguished French citizens, The Pantheon hosted a Christian Guemy exhibit beginning in its crypt and flowing out into the surrounding streets. Guemy, aka C215, created 28 portraits of "illustrious" French men and women who have made significant contributions to building the republic—notables such as Jean Moulin (at Rue de l'Estrapade and Rue d'Ulm), who served an exiled Charles de Gaulle in working to unify the efforts of French Resistance groups before being killed by the Gestapo. While C215's stencil portraits often take the shape of society's forgotten citizens, he says behind his work "the question is always freedom and dignity..."—making his efforts to keep these 38 "Illustres" from being forgotten a next logical step.  @christianguemy/  @pantheon.paris/

I had heard about ‘The Pantheon’, but did not know it was modeled after the one in Rome! The only difference between the one in Rome and France is the dome attached at the top. The pillars are definitely Roman inspired and the Pantheon is in the midst of many buildings and homes today. The architectural style is neoclassical and gothic, and is actually a church in replacement of another church! I love gothic style buildings, and I feel like it fits the image of a church dedicated to the important figures who were buried here. Even the architect who built it, Jacques-Germain Soufflot, unfortunately passed away before completing it, but was buried there as well! King Louis XV had initially planned to build the Pantheon in glory of St-Genèvieve, who prayed and saved many in France with worship. The name ‘Pantheon’ translates to “every God”. The front of the Pantheon reads, “AUX GRANDS HOMMES LA PATRIE RECONNAISSANTE”, which translates from French to English: “To great men, to grateful homeland”. The Pantheon honored those who fought and changed French history in the course of the war. This did not necessarily mean only the soldiers who fought, but writers, artists, and influential people, who had significant roles in the revolution as well. In case it is hard to obtain all of this information of the Pantheon, take a look inside to see the wonderful art painted on the walls, and the architectural styles inside and outside of the Pantheon. The art depictions in the Pantheon were dedicated to the inspiration herself, St-Genèvieve, and significant moments in the French Revolution. The sculptures have incredible details to them and I forgot where I was at the moment from the awe-inspiring mosaics. The Pantheon is beautiful, but I wonder what Soufflot would have done if he were alive to finish it?

Eros the god of Love.

Sly Eros is just as much of a warrior as his lover Hemera, albeit a more subtle one. He patrons the less overt kind of wars: the plotting, the scheming, and the revenge. The violence of the weak on the strong.

The wasp god is associated with love, deception, diplomacy, and more broadly, with anything related to feelings and interpersonal relationships. He acts as a counterpart to Hemera, his complimentary partner. He is the poison and the antidote, the knife and the heart into which it is plunged. People pray to him when they require strength and guidance in love, family matters, or revenge.
