Poison Oak
Steddie
Synopsis: Hawkins tells the tale of the vampire who lives on Oak Street, a belligerent man goes there with a dark purpose
Contains: vampirism and all that entails (blood, biting, etc), knives, drunkenness, bigotry and anti-LGBT views (from 1 person), death
The sun was shining, a slight breeze in the air making the heat bearable. The trees swayed in the breeze. Flowers starting to bloom and bees dance between them. Not a grey cloud in the sky. A perfect ideallic day.
Except Oak street was quiet. On any other street, there were children laughing and playing. Dogs happily barking with tails wagging.
An outsider may pass by Oak Street in Hawkins, Indiana without a second glance. But the outsiders who do look for a second too long will notice something different. While families would be walking everywhere else, not a single person stepped a foot onto Oak street. Except for the drunk man currently walking down it.
It was so quiet that his heart beating was louder then the breeze rustling tree leaves. The drunk knew how dogs would whine and cower in fear. Cats would arch their backs and hiss.
Always listen to animals, because they know when a predator is near.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even on a beautiful day, a small town still thrives on gossip. The story of Oak Street is an urban legend in a rebuilt Hawkins. A remnant of times past.
Oak Street was one of the remaining surviving streets after the earthquake that had almost tore Hawkins apart. Every house on it had gotten oblitered, sinking into the shaking earth and crumbling to the ground. When Hawkins was rebuilt, Oak Street was long forgotten...
At least, everyone wished it was.
But whispered versions of what happened there were told by gossiping house wives at the store. Theatrical retellings of teens by campfires trying to scare their crushes so they would lean in close them. Parents warning their kids. The cashier at the video store told anyone who wanted to listen. About Oak Street. It developed a new name, Poison Oak Street.
The legend goes that one house stood through it all, the earthquake the thunder and time. It is the only house that remains in pristine condition on Oak Street. Their house.
Legend goes that after the earthquakes, one man came back not dead but not alive. Something in between.
Eddie Munson. The freak. His name whispered in hushed tones with disgust and fear. How he came back wrong. How he had sold his soul. How he already killed innocent high schoolers prior to the earthquake, something that may have fueled his change. Whispers of devil worship and sacrifice and drinking blood. A vampire.
The story continues that there was another man. One who was always kind and helpful. Steve Harrington. A man who was blinded by trying to save another, slowly succumbing to the vampire. Becoming a loyal liege, under a possible mind control. Whispers of a man who was once revered now being feared. People sigh and shake their heads for poor Steve.
Poor Steve. And poor you if you go to Poison Oak Street.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dilapidated houses that are falling apart or piles of rubble from houses already fallen line the street. The yards are overgrown with weeds and vines crawling up the houses. Except for the house.
The two story old manor stands proud amongst the rubble of it's brethren. The yard is perfectly trimmed. The flowerbeds in front of the wrap around porch are blooming.
It is too perfect compared to the disarray around it, it sends a shiver down Mark's spine. Mark, who is still drunk, ignores the alarm bells ringing in his head. Enough was enough.
The monster took his daughter away. Mark was going to end this once and for all.
Mark's sweaty palms made his grip falter on the silver knife he had. He swallowed hard as he adjusted his grip. He really hoped that silver actually hurt vampires like it does in the books he read. He also hopes that his grandma wasn't lying when she said the cutlery and dining set was pure silver.
Mark tries to keep his footfalls silent, but every step on the ground sounds like a gunshot in his ears. He wonders if the vampire can smell him- or, wait is that werewolves?
The house looks almost unassuming with how well kept it is. Mark has one foot on the step up the back of the porch, pausing for a moment. He thought he saw-
Yes, out of the corner of his eye, the curtain moved. He could see the silhouette of someone standing behind the curtains. Mark blinks and they're gone.
It's too late, he's been spotted. He could get on his knees and beg for forgiveness, or try to run away, but thoughts of his only daughter urge him on.
Mark bursts through the door with a yell, knife raised in the air. Instead of seeing the pale monster with eyes dark as the night, Mark sees a man with a faint tan and hazel eyes.
"You could have knocked? Where are your manners," the man puts his hands on his hips and frowns. It takes Mark a second to recognize the poor soul, Steve Harrington. "What did you do with her?" Mark asks pointing the knife at Steve.
"With who?!" Steve glares down at the knife slightly, raising his hands. "You lure her here? You let that freak eat her?" Mark yells, stepping closer to Steve with every word.
The tip of the knife is now poking at Steve's sternum. "Listen man, I don't know who you are! Or this girl!" Steve takes a step back, but Mark follows.
The light thud of a door and click of a deadbolt makes Mark jump and turn on his heels.
The monster is leaning against the door Mark had entered, an evil grin on his face. "You!" Mark could feel his veins popping out of his neck in anger, there were so many words he wanted to use to describe the freak of nature in front of them, but all died on his tongue.
Eddie's smirk widens as he does jazz hands, "Ta-da!" "What did you do to my daughter?" Mark panted heavily, face twisted in a snarl. This vampire was fucking with him, acting like it was a game.
"Your daughter? Hm, let's see..." Eddie tapped a finger to his chin as he looked to the ceiling. "You eat her?" Mark snarled. "Drained." Steve corrected behind him. "You drained her!?" Mark yelled lunging forward at Eddie.
"Jesus Christ!" Eddie yelped as he dodged the slash of the knife. "Of course you'd take the Lord's name in vain you devil!" Mark slashes the knife again. "Like you've never said oh my god," Eddie retorts, dancing around Mark's attempted stabs.
"You'll pay for what you did to my daughter!" Mark yells. Mark goes to move forward, but a hand from behind yanks his arm back. Mark yelps as his arm is bent, dropping the knife.
Steve glares at Mark, holding tightly to his arm. If he moved it further back, it would break. "Your daughter..." Eddie trails off slightly before snapping his fingers," Oh! You mean Alex!"
"Her name is Alexandria!" Mark yells, spit flying from his mouth. Eddie gives him a disgusted look, "It's Alex. That's what they want to be called." "Alexandria is just confused," Mark glares.
"No, Alex isn't," Steve speaks up, Mark turning his head to look at him. "Alex is a lovely kid. Bright, has a whole future ahead of them. But not with you." Disdain drips from Steve's voice.
"Alex tried to be themself, but you wouldn't let them. They were never good enough for you. Alex told us about how you hit them," Eddie crosses his arms," Just because they didn't live up to your standards."
"Alexandria just needed reminding of what was right. When she was a kid being a tomboy was okay, but she's a woman now and-" "They get to decide their life, not you." Eddie glares.
Steve's hold on Mark tightens, an arm wrapping around the front of his shoulders. Eddie steps closer," Alex is now living their life their way. They way they always wanted and felt deep inside. We helped them leave this town. They deserve to live by their rules. They never deserved to be hit. Yelled at. Never deserved to be made to think they were bad because they weren't up to your standards. "
Mark gulps as Eddie stands nose to nose to him. "Alex didn't even tell us everything, but they didn't need to. You come barging in here, calling us monsters? But you're the monster." Eddie snarls at Mark.
Mark inhales sharply, " That's not- no I- You're the only monster here! Me and Steve are innocent humans." Eddie raises an eyebrow," Oh?"
"You have him under your spell! Just like Alex-" Mark gasps as his head is yanked to the side.
"Actually," Steve whispers in Mark's ear," You and Eddie are the humans."
Mark gasps as a sharp pain hits his neck. Steve's hair brushes against Mark's face as his fangs pierce deep into Mark's jugular. Eddie clicks his tongue and takes a step back, watching.
Mark tries to speak but finds he's unable to as a burning sensation rips through his body. He can hear Steve swallowing, and he thinks oh not eaten drained.
Mark's vision blurs, black creeping in around the edges. The burning fades into a pleasant tiredness. He can't feel his legs, he can't feel his arms, he can't feel-
.
.
Steve pulls back from the man, dropping his body to the floor. Blood is smeared around his mouth, fangs receding back. The man's face is frozen in fear. Steve winces at it and steps over the body. He'll go and bury it tomorrow in the cemetery, no one will notice another body showing up there.
Steve goes to Eddie, wrapping his arms around Eddie's waist. Eddie hums, leaning into his grip. Steve presses his forehead against Eddie's, eyes darting down to his mouth. He goes to lean in when he is pushed away.
"Absolutely not, you are not kissing me with another man's blood in your mouth!" Eddie glares," yeah, you're hot and that was so fucking attractive, but draining him?!" Steve sighed, wiping his face clean with his shirt.
"He could have hurt you, I was angry and got a bit...carried away?" Steve shrugged as he removed the dirty shirt. Eddie's eyes dart to Steve's chest. Eddie clears his throat, looking away," I mean-"
Steve wraps his arms around Eddie," Yours is the only blood i want to have Eddie. Yours is made for me. I only want you inside me-" "in more ways then one." Eddie wiggles his eyebrows at Steve. "Can I be romantic here?" Steve pouts.
"What's more romantic then draining someone, something you hate to do, to protect me?" Eddie whispers, leaning in close. Steve sighs as their lips meet. They lean into the kiss, pouring all their love into it.

Was having some thoughts about Steve joining Hellfire. They are as follows.
I'm thinking maybe they start him off with smaller weekly oneshots. Unbeknownst to Steve they are also still meeting for their regular other campaign, he figures that out later. That Eddie's been writing one shots for him on top of his other bonkers story he's got going and Steve is like "oh 🥺".
BUTTT! during the one shots, all the kids have their moments of being RUDE to Steve. Mike is the worst (cuz I dislike him and his fucking attitude). But everytime one of them is rude to Steve, and it's like legit mean stuff, like them calling him stupid. Things like that. Steve usually kinda gets quiet. And then, whenever the kids do that, Eddie starts making notes in his notebook. Then whoever said the mean thing, their characters die.
Like, Mike gets the worst of it cuz he's just such an ass. But Eddie's got a SYSTEM in these notes okay!!! There are straight tallys, for actually hurtful mean things, there are wiggly tallys for things he can tell are meant to be teasing but that he can tell definitely still kinda hurt Steve a bit. And then there are stars. People get stars for helping Steve along the way.
Be that helping his characters, or just helping him with his math or helping him understand something about the game when Eddie is busy or "distracted". Cuz he legit always notices when people help Steve. Most of the time it's cuz he hears Steve's genuine thank yous. Lucas, and surprisingly Erica, have the most stars, aside from El. Max gets stars sometimes just for back talking Mike's rudes comments with shit like,
"mike what does it matter? we're all about to die anyway. That sphinx is gonna fucking eat us. Who cares. Leave him alone."
Because her and El have of course been invited too. But they've been playing just a LITTLE bit longer so they know a small amount more. El only has stars because she is legit always helpful. Steve has taken to sitting between El and Erica because they're the nicest to him. Lucas usually sits across from him.
Dustin has lots of wiggly tallys cuz he just can't control his mouth sometimes. But one day Mike gets brutally killed again and starts whining about it and Steve has noticed Eddie making little notes. Has no idea what they are. Cuz he doesn't look through other people's notebooks. Thats rude.
Everyone has noticed the notes. No one has asked. They all have theories. And when Eddie is like,
"I'm trying to teach you a lesson. Not my fault you aren't smart enough to figure out what it is." And his voice has such a BITCHY tone when he says it. Because Mike had JUST been hounding Steve for missing "obvious" clues and not being smart enough to figure it out and walking into a trap.
And steve had gone red from his ears all the way down his neck, he also felt bad cuz he'd gotten El's character hurt. And then Mike had been an ass. Steve was upset. So Eddie killed Mike. And then he's whining and Eddie's about to say something else when El speaks up, looks across the table with a scowl and says,
"just be nicer! It's not hard to be nice. Steve is our friend. Be nice to him." And she rolls her eyes at Mike, puts her hand on Steve's arm and is like,
"I will be fine. Will can heal me." And Will pipes up and is like,
"yeah. I can heal her no problem." But it's El's outburst that makes Steve kind of wonder more about the notes Eddie takes.
He'd never ask, and never look. But he stays behind one day to help Eddie clean up, they have weekly games at the community center.
So Steve's staying after and helping with chairs and tables and getting books and dice and things stored away and Eddie's notebook is RIGHT THERE. Open to the page he's always scribbling on. And Steve just sort of... stops. And looks at it. And it's everyone's names with tallys and marks and stars. Erica has wiggly marks AND stars. But mostly stars. Because she helps him with his math almost every game.
Also she "accidentally" let mike get hit with an attack in the game cuz he was being rude. El's is all stars and scrawled under them in Eddie's chicken scratch is,
"She's a literal angel oh my god."
So Steve's eyes are just wandering over this page and his brow is all creased and he doesn't hear Eddie come back until he says,
"figured out what's missing yet?" In that teasing sweet little voice he uses on Steve that makes him feel a little dizzy sometimes, give him butterflies in his stomach, and his whole body jerks and he looks up and Eddie's leaning casually against the wall near the door. And Steve immediately apologizes and Eddie laughs, shakes his head, walks closer. And is like,
"It's okay Steve. But you didn't answer my question." He licks his lips, steps closer. Steve looks back to the notebook for a second and then back to Eddie.
"My names not on there?" He asks, worrying his finger into the table top next to the notebook. And Eddie is nodding.
"Yup." And Steve's like,
"The tallys are about... me?" And he's frowning. But Eddie steps a bit closer, standing next to the table now. And he smiles, all shy and soft and is like,
"yeah Steve. They're about you. Got kinda tired of all the kids talking shit about you. And to you. So I came up with a system. Anyone says anything about you being stupid, I kill them." He grins, wide like the Cheshire cat and Steve feels kinda pinned down by it. Feels kinda hot all over.
"You didn't- have to do that. It's fine. It doesn't bother me. I mean I know I'm not smart." And he just shakes his head and looks at the ground and Eddie kinda slams his hand down on the table, startling him. He looks up and Eddie looks mad. Not at him. Just, mad.
"You're not though. Is the thing. I mean... you're incredibly good at strategy. I know you don't know enough about dnd yet to know this, but you've been a crucial part in winning like, the last three games." Eddie steps closer, his fingertips brushing the back of Steve's hand.
"You're not stupid. You're just smart in different ways." Eddie shrugs. Gives Steve a little lopsided smile.
"You think I'm smart?" He asks, biting his lip to stop the giddy smile that's threatening to spread. Eddie doesn't stop his smile, just lets it go, lets it dimple his cheeks and make Steve's knees weak. And he's like,
"yeah man. Just cuz some jumped up little tweens can't see it doesn't mean I can't. You're kinda hard to miss." He does bite his lip then, fingers playing with his hair, Steve knows he's trying not to hide behind it.
"I just uh-" Eddie clears his throat,
"I'm really petty. And protective. And it's ridiculous cuz you're not even mine but- I just- felt like I had to protect you. Or stick up for you. Or something? I dunno. Feels stupid now that I'm saying it out- oof!" Eddie huffs when Steve slams into him. Arms wrapped around his neck. He may or may not be crying into Eddie's hellfire shirt. But he gives Eddie a squeeze and then pulls back, looks at him, smiles and says,
"I am though." With a little shrug. And Eddie's like,
"you... are?" Confused. And Steve laughs, light and sweet and says,
"Yours. I am yours. If you'll have me. Or want me. Or- mmfph!" Steve's words end in a high pitched hum as Eddie's lips hit his. Just a firm press. His hand on Steve's cheek. He pulls back fast, pink in the cheeks.
"Sorry I just- if you let me have you, Steve. I may never let you go." He chuckles, giddy. Steve snorts, his head falling to Eddie's shoulder for a second before he looks at Eddie, cups his cheek genlty.
"Who says I want you to?" His brows jump, challenging. Eddie goes redder, down to his neck.
"Wanna try that kiss again?" Steve asks.
"God was is bad? I've never- I'm not... good. At that stuff." Eddie cringes. Steve cups both his cheeks until Eddie's wide eyes are staring at him, his cheeks a little squished.
"It wasn't bad. It was kind of perfectly you. But we can get you good at that stuff. You're a fast learner right?" Steve smirks, Eddie's eyes go impossibly wider as he nods aggressively, cheeks squishing even more.
"Yes, sir." Eddie mumbles between his squished lips. Steve nods, once and then moves forward, slowly, determined to show Eddie just how thankful he is for him. How thankful he is that Eddie sees him.
Petty.
And protective.
And Steve's.

steve is sent to tarsus iv after barb holland dies in his backyard. his parents send him off to live with aunt, light-years away, hoping the colony life will calm his rebellious streak.
everything changes.
its awful, at first. steve is used to being surrounded by people, to freshers and replicators and holos. eventually, he gets used to the chores and the old fashioned tech, but he's still lonely.
robin helps. she works in his aunt's lab, too clumsy to work in the fields like steve does. after his shift is over, watering and weeding and hauling done, they'll sit under the fan in his aunt's office and recount every movie they can remember to each other.
when the fungus creeps into his aunt's field, they think its her experiments. they burn all the crops, and steve is out of a job until his aunt can run the numbers and find out what went wrong. until they can start over.
so steve starts babysitting. its way more fun than field work, even if he complains the whole time. the kids are funnier and smarter than his friends back home, and their parents are kind, the way he wished the harringtons could be. max teaches him to ride a vehicle with wheels. mike and nancy teach him to cook. dustin explains starfleet comms systems to him so many times that steve thinks he might actually be beginning to understand. he, el, and lucas go fishing every sunday. will and jonathan try to teach him how to paint the view from his house, even though it always ends in a mess and a playful, colorful fight.
but the fungus spreads. and steve has never been hungry before, but he knows its fucked that his rations are bigger than the wheelers' and the hendersons' and the sinclairs', and that theirs are bigger than the hoppers' and the byers' and the mayfields'. he doesn't know a lot about whats happening, but he knows its wrong. so he eats as little as possible, gives what can't be saved to the kid, and stores the rest. he ignores the constant pit in his stomach.
the pit grows when his aunt pulls him into her office one night, her face haggard with hunger and horror. because she just helped write a list of people who get to live through this famine, and his name is on it. so are mike and nancy, and lucas and erica, and that's it. claudia henderson made the cut, but not her son. he looks too different, costs too much. not susan mayfield, the hardest worker he's ever met, or her daughter. not joyce byers and her sons, not el hopper. not robin, who saved him.
everything changes.
his aunt must see the disgust on steve's face, because she tells him that it doesn't matter if he's on the list or not, if he fights this, he'll be dead. they all will.
steve nods, forgives her. smiles. goes to his room, pulls the bag out from under his bed. climbs out the window.
he goes to robin first, holds her while she cries. steve can't cry yet, his mind too busy spinning plans. they'll go to the wheelers' first, because they won't be watched, but steve knows there's no way that mike and nancy will go quietly if jonathan and will aren't there. then lucas and erica, if they want. then the byers, then the mayfields, then... the plan continues to spin.
joyce is already gone by the time they get there, but the boys are huddled together in their fort. he and robin don't let them look. susan isn't gone, just missing, but steve knows they're running out of time. it takes too long to convince max to leave, so by the time they make it to the hoppers', the soldiers have beat them to it.
el is covered in blood. max screams, and its only the phaser shots from the front yard, paired with jim's shotgun, that keeps them from getting caught. steve picke up el, and they run
they hide next to the fishing hole, even though all the fish are dead. its familiar, its isolated, its quiet.
they get through all of steves food in a week.
two days later, steve leaves in search of more. five hours later later, he helps eddie munson kill a man.
everything changes.

Eddie's spirit being trapped in the Creel house with Barb, Billy, Jason, Patrick, Chrissy and pretty much everyone else that got killed by the upside down, Eddie's on going theory was that if you die in alternative dimension you don't exactly get to cross over instead you're trapped in the overlords house. Eddie tried escaping for the millionth time. Chrissy laughs finding him cute, she was sitting on the stairs.
Chrissy: "Jason tried that already, I'm pretty sure Billy threw Fred out a window that didn't work either."
Eddie groaning under his breath, because he wanted out, he wanted to see Steve again he wanted to see his uncle.
Eddie: "Great, what about Barb she's been here the longest does she have any theory's."
Chrissy shook her head, she hasn't actually seen Barb but she knows she's here their all connected somehow.
Chrissy: "I haven't actually seen her, she's here though I think she gave up a long time ago. I think slowly but surely you lose who you use to be the longer you're dead."
Eddie ran a hand through his hair, he didn't want ghost dementia he looked around seeing people he doesn't even recognize but they all looked like Billy with those black veins.
Eddie: "How long till we get ghost dementia?"
Chrissy shrugs she wasn't exactly sure. But at the same time she watched as her 86 necklace faded away, it was happening to her.
Chrissy: "I don't know think it has to do with you're will power, I have seen some spirits like Patrick lose who they were in matter of days, hours, minutes, I think Barb was the longest three years and now she's just gone."
Eddie wanted to pull out his own hair, when he imagined his afterlife he didn't imagine this.
Eddie: "I need to talk to Steve, where's Jason and Billy?"
Chrissy: "Upstairs why?"
Eddie having a bright idea, he pointed towards the old phone.
Eddie: "If we can't get out, maybe I can channel Billy's and Jason's anger into some power and I can call Steve."
Chrissy: "Eddie, if you really love him you can't do that don't you think Barb tried calling Nancy."
Eddie: "Why can't I do that?"
Chrissy: "Because it's selfish to him because there's nothing he can do to help you."
Eddie just wanted to talk to Steve that was it, he just wanted to hear his voice.
Eddie: "I just want to hear him talk one more time."
Eddie looked towards Chrissy seeing her eyes were white, she was giving up.
Chrissy: "I know Ed believe me I know."
Eddie: "You're leaving me to aren't you?"
Chrissy just smiles sadly, she couldn't fight it anymore.
Chrissy: "I'm sorry."
Eddie: "No don't be."
Eddie went back to staring at the phone thinking about Steve, Dustin, Gareth, Kevin and Jeff how much he missed them. He looked at his hands watching as he rings started to fade, at least he survived this hell for almost year. Maybe he will finally be at peace.

Y/N was silent as she held onto her cousin's arm, standing close to him due to the bit of fear coursing through her body. Her eyes flickered over the missing poster in front of her, the name Edward Corcoran and the words 13 years old standing out almost as much as the thick bold letters spelling out missing.
Edward had been her age, a kid just like her and all of the other members of the Losers' Club. What had happened to him was still unknown, but Y/N couldn't stop thinking about that clown that not only her, but Bill, Beverly, Stan, and Eddie had seen as well.
"They say they found part of his hand all chewed up near the standpipe," Stan muttered as he shuffled awkwardly where he stood. His words made Y/N gulp and she gave him a questioning look as to why he would say something like that as she let go of his arm. Stan only gave her a look in response, confused by what she was doing.
"He asked to borrow a pencil once," Ben commented, and Y/N felt like she might be sick. Something about knowing that they had known Edward made the situation that much more real. After all he was a boy that had used to walk the same hallways as her cousin. He wasn't the first one to disappear like this and it didn't seem like he was going to be the last.
A commotion coming from the steeet caught Y/N's attention and she turned her head to lock eyes on Richie who was currently playing one of the band kid's instruments while the kid desperately tried to wrestle it out of his hands. The corners of her lips tugged up ever so slightly as she watched Richie, her eyes then flickering over the parade going by before a movement out of the corner of her eye had her turning back to the others.
Bill was walking towards the flyer and he hesitated before gently lifting the paper up to reveal another missing flyer for a girl named Betty Ripsom. Bill sighed before letting his eyes flicker over to his friends, his gaze instantly locking with Y/N's.
"It's like she's been f-f-forgotten because Corcoran's missing," Bill said, his words making Y/N frown slightly and look to her feet while Bill hung his head and put Edward's flyer back down.
"Is it ever gonna end?" Stan questioned.
"What the fuck, dude?" Richie's voice could be heard yelling out in frustration as the band kid tore his instrument away from the boy before running away.
"What are you guys talking about?" Eddie asked as he came up behind Y/N. The girl jumped in surprise and Eddie flashed her an apologetic look as he licked one of the ice cream cones in his hands.
"What they always talk about," Richie replied in annoyance as Eddie handed the boy the other ice cream cone.
"I actually think it will end, for a little while, at least," Ben told them.
"What do you mean?" Beverly asked, everyone's eyes now on the young boy.
"So I was going over all of my Derry research and I charted out all of the big events. The Ironworks explosion in 1908. The Bradley Gang in '35 and The Black Spot in '62. And now kids being. . ." Ben trailed off as his gaze fell on Bill. He quickly looked away and sighed as he said, "I realized this stuff seems to happen-"
"Every 27 years," Ben, Y/N, and Bill all uttered in unison, Y/N and Bill both making eye contact as those words left their mouths.
It was silent as the group stood there before Y/N shook her head and whispered out, "Shit." All eyes turned to the girl who put a hand to her head almost in pain before she turned and began to walk away, the action causing them all to look at her confused.
"Y/N?" Bill called out, his voice soft and filled with concern.
"I. . .I just need to sit down," Y/N replied with a wave of her hand as she walked down the street. The others all shared a look before quickly following after her, not wanting her to be alone.
Before long, the group had ended up sitting down at a park bench set up in the middle of town. Beverly, Stan, Mike, and Ben all sat on the green bench while Richie, Eddie, and Bill were seated on their bikes. As for Y/N, she was sitting on the ground by Bill's side.
She was resting her head against Bill's leg, something that hadn't gone unnoticed by Bill or Stan, and was pinching the bridge of her nose as she tried to wrap her head around everything that she had been told over the past couple of days and everything that she had witnessed since she got here.
Derry was definitely a little stranger than the last time she had been there that was for sure.
"Ok, so let me get this straight. It comes out from wherever to eat kids for like a year and then what? It just goes into hibernation?" Eddie finally asked
"Maybe it's like. . .what do you call it? Cicadas. You know, the bugs that come out once every 17 years," Stan suggested while Y/N removed her hand to scrunch up her nose and look to her cousin.
"I don't think it's that," Y/N muttered with a shake of her head. Cicadas and kids going missing were not the same thing at all.
"My grandfather thinks this town is cursed. He says that all the bad things that happened in this town are because of one thing. An evil thing that feeds off the people of Derry," Mike explained.
Y/N's stomach grew queasy again and she let out a soft groan as she laid back against Bill's leg, the boy reaching down to brush some of the hair out of her face almost automatically before the two shared a small smile.
"But it can't be one thing. We all saw something different," Stan pointed out.
"Maybe. Or maybe It knows what scares us most and that's what we see," Mike suggested.
"But I don't. . .I don't fear my father," Y/N argued.
"Did he do or say something that scares you?" Mike asked, wondering if it wasn't Y/N's father that scared her but something else that he might've done or said.
Y/N's face fell at that and a flash of pain flickering across her face before she looked down, the sudden realization of what fear her father was supposed to represent hitting her harder than she had expected. For one of the things she feared most in the world was being the reason her parents split up and for being the reason her family wasn't a family anymore.
It didn't take much for the others to know that she had realized what her fear was, but Eddie knew she wouldn't want to talk about it and was quick to speak up, "I-I saw a leper. He was like a walking infection." Everyone's gaze turned to him and Y/N gave him a thankful smile which he returned.
"But you didn't. Because It isn't real. None of this is. Not Eddie's leper or Bill seeing Georgie or Y/N seeing her father or the woman I keep seeing," Stan insisted, the others all looking down as they tried to believe Stan's words. For it was better to think that they were all hallucinating than to know that something out there was changing into their worst fears.
"Is she hot?" Richie suddenly asked in pure curiosity that made Stan scrunch his nose up in disgust and glare at his friend.
"No, Richie. She's not hot. Her face is all messed up," Stan explained with a tad bit of aggression while Richie frowned. "None of this makes any sense. They're all like bad dreams."
"Nightmares," Y/N whispered, her face pale as she ran a hand through her hair. By now she was thinking of all of her fears and what It could do to her that she was more frightened now than she had been five minutes ago.
"I don't think so, I know the difference between a bad dream and real life, okay?" Mike told them, the seriousness in his voice making them fall quiet.
"What did you see? You saw something too?" Eddie asked.
"Yes," Mike muttered, his head falling as his eyes glazed over as if he were seeing the memory before his very eyes. "You guys know that burnt down house on Harris Avenue? I was inside when it burned down. Before I was rescued my mom and dad were trapped in the next room over from me. They were pushing and pounding on the door trying to get to me. But it was too hot. When the firefighters finally found them. . .the skin on their hands melted down to the bone."
A heavy silence fell among the group and Mike let his eyes flicker over each of them before firmly saying, "We're all afraid of something."
"Got that right," Richie said causing Y/N to look to him.
"What about you, Tozier? What are you afraid of?" Y/N asked, her voice soft as she looked to the boy. He glanced down at her for a second before sighing and looking back at the stage behind them which had a clown on stage.
"Clowns."
- - -
Bill let out a small sigh of frustration as he struggled to keep the blueprints on the wall from moving as he pinned them up. Before he could yell at one of his friends to help him, a small and gentle voice said, "Here, I'll help."
Bill didn't even have time to blink before Y/N was sliding up beside him to hold the paper up while he was able to pin the blueprint to the wall. Once it was secure, the two brought their arms down and looked to each other. "Thanks," Bill whispered before the two smiled softly at each other.
"Okay, lovebirds! If you aren't going to fucking kiss then sit down!" Richie exclaimed in slight amusement and annoyance, a few chuckles escaping his lips at the sight of Bill and Y/N blushing a deep red before they walked away from the blueprint.
Mike pulled the door to Bill's garage down while Eddie flipped on the projector that Bill had him set up. The Losers then all crowded around the projector while Bill put a slide in. Y/N and Bill locked eyes for a split second before Y/N quickly turned away and sat down beside Eddie on the floor, the boy sending a small smile in her direction which she quickly returned before they looked to the blueprints which had a projection of an old Derry map on top of it.
"Okay. Look. That's where G-G-Georgie disappeared. There's the Ironworks and the Black Spot. Everywhere It happens it's-it's all connected by the sewers and they all meet up at the-" Bill began as he pointed towards the spots marked on the map.
"The Well House," Ben said in surprise.
"Well House?" Y/N questioned, not knowing what they were talking about.
"That's the house on Neibolt Street," Stan explained, his voice shaking slightly as he spoke.
"You mean that creepy-ass house where all the junkies and hobos like to sleep?" Richie questioned while Eddie began to panic. The boy quickly pulled his inhaler out and took a hit before breathing heavily beside Y/N. The girl frowned and was quick to put a hand on Eddie's back, gently rubbing up and down his back in a comforting manner and helping the boy to calm down.
"I hate that place," Beverly admitted. "Always feels like it's watching me."
Eddie was finally able to calm down enough to sit back up straight and he leaned into Y/N's touch slightly, seeking the sisterly comfort she seemed to be giving him and that he used to receive from her when they were younger.
"That's where I saw It," Eddie told them. "That's where I saw the clown."
"Tha-tha-tha-that's where It lives," Bill concluded, the statement being enough to make Eddie use his inhaler once again.
"I can't imagine anything ever wanting to live there," Stan muttered.
"Guys," Y/N said in warning as she noticed Eddie's panicking state, but the boy was already jumping to his feet and turning to look at his friends.
"Can we stop talking about this?" Eddie asked. "I-I-I can barely breathe and-and-and Y/N's not even able to calm me down like she always does. It's summer. We're kids, I can barely breathe. I'm having a fucking asthma attack and fuck doing this!"
Eddie turned around and quickly grabbed ahold of the blueprint map that Bill and Y/N had just put up and ripped it off the wall. "What the hell! Put the map back!" Bill yelled while Eddie shook his head.
Y/N sighed and quickly got up from her spot before walking over to the boy. "Eds, it's okay," Y/N assured him while the boy watched her wearily.
"Woah! Woah! Woah! How come she gets to call you Eds without you biting her head off?" Richie complained.
"Because she's not an asshole like you!" Eddie exclaimed while Richie frowned and muttered something under his breath.
It was at that moment that the projector flickered on and off, the slide changing to a blank one and causing the group to look to Bill who was staring at the projector confused. The projector did the motion again and a picture of Georgie and Mr. Denbrough appeared in the place of the map. Although this time everyone had noticed that Bill hadn't been the one to change the slides.
"What happened?" Bill asked confused as the slides moved again, family pictures of the four Denbroughs appearing before them. "What's going on?"
Eddie slowly began to back away while Y/N merely looked at the pictures in confusion before looking back at Bill. "Bill, what's happening?" Y/N questioned.
"I don't know," Bill shook his head as Mike came over and tried to stop the projector only to find that he couldn't. His eyes then flickered up to the screen and he muttered, "Guys. . ."
Y/N turned back around and watched as pictures of Bill and Georgie appeared on the screen before there was another family picture of the Denbroughs. Although this time it began to zoom in on Georgie in the picture with each click of the projector.
"Georgie," Bill muttered before the projector began to move faster.
"Uh. . .Y/N," Stan said in a panicked voice as he noticed that his cousin was still so far away from him.
However, everyone fell silent and seemed to become mesmerized as they watched the picture suddenly shift view over to Mrs. Denbrough. For a moment it seemed as if her hair was moving with each click of the projector and it didn't take Y/N or the others long to realize that it was moving with each click.
The hair quickly covered his mother's face before slowly starting to move away. With each click, the new face began to be revealed and Y/N felt her breath hitch in her throat once she realized the clown was suddenly coming into view.
It was like she was frozen in terror, the only thing registering in her head was her friends yelling out as they desperately tried to stop the projector.
"What the fuck?"
"It's It!"
"What the fuck is that?"
"I don't fucking know!"
"Turn it off!"
"Yes, turn it off!"
Mike was the one to react and he quickly kicked the stand the projector was on, sending the projector tumbling to the ground. The picture appeared again only the clown was now gone and all that was left was the empty background of the picture.
Y/N was breathing heavily as she finally blinked out of whatever trance she had been in. Her body was shaking as she looked back at the others with wide eyes only to find them all looking behind her with wide eyes before Bill looked to Y/N in fright and yelled out, "Y/N, get away!"
Y/N felt her whole body tense at that and for some stupid and unknown reason she decided to turn around only to find that there was nothing there. Her shoulders relaxed slightly and she went to turn back at her friends only for the clown suddenly to appear out of no where, it's body now ten times bigger and crawling out of the projected image.
A scream fell from Y/N's lips as the clown turned to look at her and she heard Stan cry out her name among the scream of the others. That was enough to have her moving and Y/N tried to scramble away only for something to grab onto her leg.
Y/N quickly slammed into the ground and turned only to find that It had ahold of her leg. Another scream left her lips and tears were filling her eyes by now as she felt an immense pain in her leg.
It let go of her for a split second and Y/N tried to crawl away as best as she could while It just watched her in amusement. She didn't know what her cousin or her friends were doing at that moment, but for a split second she thought that they had left her and that she was going to die.
Y/N was crying as she crawled across the floor only to get trapped in the corner of the garage while It stared directly at her, his hand outstretched in her direction as he went to grab for her.
"Y/N!" Bill's voice yelled out before he was suddenly grabbing onto the garage door and flinging it up, allowing the light to pour into the garage. The clown disappeared almost immediately and the last thing to be heard was an ear piercing scream from Y/N as she huddled more into herself in the corner of Bill's garage.
Once nothing came for her, Y/N allowed her eyes to flicker open only to find the garage was now empty. This alone was enough to make her break down and Y/N began to sob as she hugged her knees close to her body, the others all standing there breathing heavily as they tried to process what had just happened.
Bill was the only one unfazed and shoved past Stan who was staring at his cousin with wide eyes, a look of pure horror on his face as he had almost seen his best friend die before his very eyes and hadn't been able to do anything about it.
Bill was in front of Y/N in seconds and the girl didn't even hesitate before lunging forward and into Bill's arms, the boy holding her tight while she cried into his shirt. He tucked her head under his chin and cradled the back of her head against his chest as he gently rocked her back and forth, whispering softly to her that she was okay while she cried in his arms.
"It saw us," Eddie whispered once Y/N's cries has quieted. She was still holding onto Bill tightly, the boy having not loosened his grip at all either, but the two turned their gazes to Eddie who was gripping onto his inhaler. "It saw us and It knows where we are."
"It always knew," Bill muttered, those words making Y/N quiet once again. Bill looked down at the girl and his mind was instantly made up on what had to happen next. He gave the girl one last squeeze and even kissed the top of her head before reluctantly pulling away from her, ignoring the heartbroken look in her eyes as she desperately tried to keep hold of him.
Bill stood up and glanced at Stan who took the hint and rushed over to his cousin before helping her up onto her feet. Bill was just about to walk out when he heard a hiss from behind him that had the boy turning around to see Y/N turn her leg for them all to see. He, along with all the others, paled at the sight of two long scratches down the back of her leg, blood rolling down her leg and making Eddie stumble back slightly from the sight.
"Shit," Richie muttered, his eyes filling with concern as he looked at Y/N and gulped.
Y/N's injury only seemed to fuel Bill's rage and he shook his head before storming out of the garage with a new purpose. "Let's go," Bill demanded.
"Go? Go where?" Beverly asked.
"Neibolt," Bill explained and, not wanting to admit his feelings for Y/N and how desperately he wanted to kill that clown for harming her or his brother, added, "That's where G-G-Georgie is."
"After that?" Stan asked appalled as he held his cousin up steady beside him. "After Y/N just got hurt?"
"Yeah, Y/N's hurt and we should help her. Besides it's summer, we should be outside. . ." Richie said.
"If you say it's summer one more f-f-f-fucking time," Bill muttered before letting his eyes flicker over his friends. Each one of them obviously wanted to stay right where they were and it made Bill even angrier than he already was. But then his eyes had landed on Y/N and his face softened ever so slightly as he noticed the utter pain in her eyes as she tried to limp forward and to him.
Shaking his head and knowing that not only would his friends not come, but that he couldn't allow Y/N to face that clown again, Bill turned around and grabbed his bike before beginning to bike away.
"Bill?" Y/N called after the boy, shoving Stan's grip away from her as she desperately tried to limp forward as fast as she could just to stop the boy from leaving by himself. "Wait!"
But Bill was already gone.
- - -
It took a minute for Y/N to convince Stan to let her on to his bike and another few minutes of convincing Eddie to allow her to leave with only a bandage lazily thrown over her wound, but the group was eventually biking after Bill side by side until they reached the Well House. Y/N could see Bill walking up the old stairs and her eyes widened before she yelled out, "Bill!"
Bill turned around in surprise, his eyes locking on Y/N who struggled to get off Stan's bike before she limped over to the stairs as fast as she could, wincing as she did. "Bill, you can't go in there," Y/N pleaded as she reached the stairs. "At least not alone."
Bill looked to the girl with surprise still evident on his face but it quickly washed away once he heard Beverly cry out, "This is crazy." Beverly and the others were behind Y/N in seconds and Bill frowned as he looked at the group.
"Look, you don't have to come in with me, but what happens when another Georgie goes missing, or another Betty or another Ed Corcoran or one of us? Are you just going to pretend it didn't happen like everyone else in this town? Because I can't. I go home and all I see is that Georgie isn't there, his clothes, his toys, his stupid stuffed animal but he isn't. So walking into this house for me. . .it's easier that walking into my own," Bill told them, his voice steady although he had tears in his eyes.
Bill then turned and finished walking up the stairs while Y/N watched him go with a sad look on her face. Her leg was on fire, but she didn't care at the moment because all that mattered was Bill.
"Wow," Richie muttered.
"What?" Ben asked.
"He didn't stutter once," Richie pointed out.
No one made a move to go after the boy and Y/N glanced at her friends before shaking her head and limping over to the stairs. It was a struggle to get up the stairs, but now that the adrenaline was coursing through her body and the initial pain of the injury was gone, it was bearable enough for her to be able to get through the pain for this.
Bill heard the footsteps before he could get to the door and he turned, his face softening at the sight of Y/N limping up the stairs. He didn't even hesitate before going over and holding a hand out for her. She took it and he helped her up the rest of the stairs before she stumbled slightly into him. Bill was quick to steady her and the two stared at each other in silence before Y/N gave him a small nod and whispered, "I'm with you."
Her words were enough to make Bill smile and his heart couldn't help but skip a beat as his feelings for the girl grew even more. He couldn't even find it in himself to tell the girl she couldn't come, for the way she looked at him dead in the eye and the seriousness of her voice was enough to tell him that she really would be by his side through this all, that she wouldn't let him do this alone even if she was hurt.
Y/N eventually tore her eyes away from Bill and looked to the others almost pleadingly and it didn't take much more than Bill's words and Y/N's pleading stare to have them start moving toward the stairs.
"Wait!" Stan cried out, instantly stopping everyone in their tracks. "Uhhh, shouldn't we have some people keep watch. You know, just in case something bad happens?"
Y/N didn't blame her cousin for not wanting to go into that house. After all, a small part of herself was telling her to grab her cousin and get on his bike before pedaling far away. But something was stopping her from doing so and she actually found herself wanting to go in there and kill that clown herself.
"Wh-Wh-Wh-Who wants to stay out here?" Bill asked and everyone in the group except for Bill, Beverly, and Y/N raised their hands. Richie was the first one to notice this and sighed as he lowered his hand.
"Fuck."

Women in War -- 2
All Maggie Maravillla ever wanted was to help people. She never imagined losing damn near everything when winning a war.
WiW masterpost
Chapter 2
1935
"I would've enlisted today if the war had gone on now, Buck, no hesitation. "
Maggie's laugh was long and had Steve not known how she meant her different laughs, it would have been mighty insulting.
Bucky grinned. "You wouldn't have lasted two days in training, pal."
Steve rolled his eyes, which caused him to wince as his headache protested. He pressed the ice pack against his forehead even harder. "Always a bully somewhere," he grumbled, "first Hodge, now these jerks."
"You just need to learn to pick your battles," Maggie said, smiling. "Or you could, you know, enjoy your birthday like a normal person."
"Not an option," Steve said, grinning at Maggie, "and aren't you supposed to be preparing for college? With Becky? In Cambridge?"
"Yeah, but I couldn't miss little Steve's birthday. Besides, you should cagar on Bucky. He brought me out to Brooklyn to see you. Becky has a couple of bonus quizzes tomorrow for the really -- desalado? -- the eager ones, and she really wants to excell. She's been talking about moving to London permanently. Apparently, the boys there are cute."
"How would she even know?" Steve asked. "She spends all day in your dorm studying."
"True," Maggie said, shrugging.
"All she knows is that American boys aren't," Bucky said.
"Ow," Steve said flatly, staring at Bucky.
"I actually had an orientation session this week," Maggie said, staring off to the side, "but it doesn't matter. As long as I keep my grades above average, I get to keep my scholarship. I didn't even expect to get in, let alone earn a scholarship."
"Don't sell yourself short, Mags," Bucky said, leaning back in his chair, "you're brilliant. We're proud of you for even going to college."
"It's hard sometimes. I know I've been here my whole life, but I grew up learning from Papá. Do you know how smart I am in Spanish?"
Steve smiled. "Yeah, we know."
"I actually have a hard time keeping up with you when you're mad, and I've been studying Spanish for like, six years. Tio Hugo is a miracle teacher, I'll give him that."
"You're just dumb," Steve said, rolling his eyes again.
"You'll make a fine doctor," Bucky told Maggie, ignoring Steve, "just set your sights on becoming the great Doctor Maravilla and never look back."
Maggie smiled. "Doctor Maravilla," she repeated, "sí, that's gonna be me."
The table was silent for a while. In the background, Evie could be heard chatting away from some friend of hers. The Barnes household was never truly silent. It was something Maggie always loved about Bucky's home -- her home, as Winnifred always made her feel. Maggie hated silence. Silence filled her own house on the days where her father went to work and she was left alone with her mother. Silence was what happened when the teachers caught her and Becky fighting with Hodge or any of his cronies. Silence was what happened when Angel had friends over. Everytime Maggie was subject to silence, it was around someone she didn't quite like.
Maggie hated silence more than she hated bullies. Maggie learnt English curses just to swear biligually whenever she was told to be silent.
So Maggie loved the Barnes household, where someone or the other would always be doing something. Sometimes it would be Allie and Steve arguing about who had the homework answers right. Sometimes it would be Evie loudly chatting on the telephone. Often, she could hear Winnifred and Becky bustling about in the kitchen, trying out new recipes and experimenting with bizarre flavours. Every odd weekend, George Barnes would make a loud noise in the garage, fiddling with some old piece of tech. Becky would join him too.
And very rarely, Maggie would hear Bucky humming to himself as he went about doing whatever he did.
"I ought to get going," Maggie said, wishing with all her heart that she could just stay in her home.
"Chin up, Mags," Steve said, "give it time, you'll be one of America's most sought-after doctors sooner or later."
Steve had no idea how right he was.
1939
Four years later, they found themselves in well into the midst of a world war.
Mi dulce Magpie,
I'm going to bind Steve to the leg of my dining room table and lock the table in someone's safe. He's heard about the war, you know. Do you remember when we had just graduated? You came from Cambridge for Steve's birthday. The little pedazo de mierda got it in his head then already about signing up for war. Now he tells me it's fate. Won't you write him a scathing letter, doll? Maybe he'll listen to you. I'd love to sit and write more, but Evie says she just saw Steve get dragged into an alley. Do remind my scatterbrained sister to read my letters. You're still coming home for Christmas, right? Allie misses your dumb face, doll. I hope to see you here at least a week in advance.
With love,
The better Barnes twin.
P.S. I'll only stop calling you Magpie if you stop calling me Buckwheat.
Maggie smiled as she folded up the letter again. She slipped it into her purse as she walked along the hallway.
"Can I help you, Miss?"
"No, thank you, I'm just here to visit someone."
The young woman raised her eyebrows at Maggie. "Ma'am. . . I don't--"
"I've been here before, angel, I know my way around the office. Mr Edwards' is straight down, right?"
"Er, yes. Uhm, good luck, ma'am."
Maggie never used the endearment 'angel' to mean anything other than 'estúpida mierda'. Making sure the letter she'd read thrice now was still tucked into her little bag, Maggie walked along until she came up on the open office out side Mr Edwards'.
"Rebecca Latimer Barnes, we'll be back after New Year's. We're not going off to war!"
The group of young women dispersed, allowing Maggie a glimpse of the woman that had previously been in the centre of the laughs and smiles. "Felicidades por el engagement, Peggy. Beck, we're gonna miss the plane."
Peggy Carter smiled. "Gracias, Maggie. Do say hello to everyone at home from me."
"You should send a photo, Pegs," Becky said, leaning on Peggy's desk, "although it's a pity Fred proposed. I was sure Buck would've liked to take you out."
Maggie laughed, despite being upset that Becky still hadn't left the office. "If that were true, we'd be offering Peggy condolences. Vamanos, Beck, your bag's already in the car."
Becky sighed dramatically. "I'll see you in the new year, ladies. Let's go, Dr Maravilla."
"Almost a doctor," Maggie said as she waved goodbye to the Bletchley Park women and left, Becky trailing behind.
"Back to work, ladies," Mr Edwards said as he opened his office door. "Miss Carter, a word?"
"Of course, Mr Edwards."
"Has Miss Barnes left already?"
"Just missed her, sir."
"Pity. Remind me to speak to her when she returns in the new year."
///////////////
Becky pulled her suitcase along behind her. "How'd you even meet the guy? And what are you doing for him that he's paying for both your education and our visits home?"
Maggie frowned as she thought back. "I was waiting tables in our eleventh year, you remember? He stopped by and I waited on him. He was a mess -- he still is -- and his food and drink fell everywhere. Last time I cursed like that was when that perra Lucy Kinney stole my shift at the hospital and I had to work the graveyard shift."
"You know, given that you work part-time in a hospital, I really wouldn't suggest calling it the graveyard shift."
Maggie smiled. "Very funny, Becks. Anyway, so he's surprisingly super apologetic about it. Turns out he was stressed over some college exams or something and long story short, we got to talking about college and he felt really bad about ruining my shift at the diner that he offered to pay for my college tuition -- provided I didn't slack off or things like that."
Becky shook her head. "I don't get it. Why? Why would someone just randomly decide to pay for someone else's tuition?"
"Well, he comes from a rich family."
"That makes it all the more unlikely that he'd be so generous."
"Look, Becks, I'm not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. If the man sees potential in me and is willing to pay for college, I'm grabbing it with both hands and hanging on until I graduate. You and me both know my father could never afford getting me into medicine."
"Your mom could."
"Yeah, but who needs her help? I'm actually going to see her before I come by your place."
"I thought you were meeting your darling benefactor?"
"I am. I'm seeing them both today and then I'll come home. Do me a favour and fetch my father?"
"Sure, no problem. Did your darling benefactor call you a cab?"
"I called you a cab." Both women stopped walking at the new voice. "And we all know I'm not Maggie's darling benefactor."
"Howard," Maggie greeted, "good to see you."
Howard dipped his head slightly. "Mags. Mr Jarvis will take your bags to Ms Barnes' taxi, if you'd like?"
Maggie smiled at the young man following Howard. "Hola, Eddie, como estas?"
Jarvis smiled back. "Bien, gracias, Mags. ¿Y usted mismo?"
"Always a pleasure, Eddie. Thank you so much."
Jarvis nodded as he took hold of Maggie's suitcase and gestured for Becky to walk with him.
"So, darling benefactor?"
"She's insane. Leave it to the great Becky Barnes to see through the rosiest of rose-lenses."
"Isn't she a really good codebreaker?"
"Surprisingly, yes. She's actually one of two top codebreakers at Bletchley Park. Our friend Peggy is the other."
"Peggy . . . that wouldn't be Margaret Carter, would it?"
"It would. What a small world, Mr Stark."
"Indeed, Dr Maravilla, it's a very small world. Come on, we have business to discuss."
"Business?" Maggie echoed with a frown as she placed her hands around the arm Howard offered her.
"Business," Howard repeated with a nod, pulling Maggie through the busy airport.
///////////////
"Hypothetically? No. I went to Cambridge to study and become a doctor. I wouldn't want any part in your whimsical ideas, Howard."
"What if the situation weren't hypothetical?"
Maggie sipped her tea slowly. "No. Besides, you can't make superheroes. ¡Eso es ridículo! Maybe when you've got proof this . . . super soldier thing . . . will work, I will consider helping you out."
"Maggie, hear me out, you're England's finest and you're not even qualified yet. How they hate to say your name, because you're better than them all. I could really use your help on this."
"This was never hypothetical to begin with, was it?"
Meekly, Howard shook his head. "No. Look, there's this German doctor who's developing a formula. If I can just persuade some people upstairs to go after the doctor, we could have that formula. We could win the war before it's fully begun."
"I'm sorry, Howard. I truly appreciate all you've done for me, but this isn't the way to repay you. I can't understake . . . missions . . . without any solid proof that I'm doing something right. I'm really sorry, Howard, truly."
Howard nodded as Maggie gathered her things and stood up.
"What about a nurse?"
Howard's voice stopped Maggie. She stood behind his chair, staring at the door. Howard stared at her vacant seat.
"I wanted to be a doctor, Howard."
"You'll have to climb that ladder, Maggie, and you can either work as a nurse in that shitty hospital and sit through years and years of college until they finally think a young Hispanic woman is capable of being a fully-fledged doctor, or you can start as a base camp nurse and actually put your skills to use as you climb the ranks. Your skill is beyond the average nurse, Mags, and you'll get everyone to call you a doctor within months at best."
Maggie squinted at the door.
"Think about it," Howard said, stirring his cup. "I expect an answer by New Year's. Enjoy the Christmas week, Miss Maravilla."
"Likewise, Mr Stark," Maggie said as she left, realising just how much she loved being called Dr Maravilla.
///////////////
Bucky was waiting on the front steps when Maggie got out of the cab. She stood behind the front gate and smiled. "How long have you been sitting there, Buckwheat?"
"Not long, Magpie. How was your meeting with your mother?"
Maggie's expression twisted as she pushed open the gate and walked up to the steps. "I didn't go see her. I was with Howard all this time. He offered me a job."
"That's brilliant, Mags!"
"Sí, but not the job I want. Bucky, I want to be a doctor. Howard wants to make me an army nurse."
Bucky turned his head to look at the woman sitting beside him. "Why do you want to be a doctor, Maggie?"
"I want to help people, I want to fix them, I want to make them better."
"Well, doll, then maybe being an army nurse is more suited to you than studying forever at a college that doesn't really want it's girls to go out there."
"I don't know, Buck. I think I can be one of the lucky ones. I . . . just don't know."

I know you all are excited for the Party and the Losers to meet, but that sadly will not happen until after the next chapter. this is because I have a certain plan for everything and right now, they just haven’t appeared yet. however, that does not mean the Party will not make certain appearances before the big meeting (an example being this chapter). anyways, I hope you all are having a great day and thank you for all the love and support!

“Shit," Y/N muttered in exasperation as she slammed her home phone down in frustration. Running a shaking hand through her hair, Y/N leaned against the kitchen counter as she tried to think of a solution to her problem. Her problem being that not a single member of the Party was picking up their phone.
Y/N stared at the phone hesitantly before picking it up and quickly dialing her friend's number. "Steve Harrington, I swear-" Y/N began to mutter, but she was once again met with no answer. She slammed the phone down even louder than earlier before slumping against the counter, her head falling into her hands.
This couldn't be happening. The Upside Down being back. Pennywise being back.  Mike being missing. . .
None of this was real. There was just no way.
For a moment, Y/N felt as if she was about to cry. The stinging feeling in her eyes as her vision began to blur ever so slightly only made her more frustrated, her body shaking out of both fear and stress. Fear for her friend and for anyone else that these two threats could harm and stress over how she was supposed to find a solution.
Without the Party, Y/N was the only one that understood how to fight back against the Upside Down. But much like the Losers had to fight together to be able to defeat Pennywise, Y/N and the Party had to do the same with the Upside Down.
How was she supposed to fight the same creatures that had been haunting her nightmares for years now without the very people who had helped her defeat the place not once but three times?
How was she supposed to save Mike?
"Y/N?" a small voice called out making the girl jump in surprise and turn to see both Eddie and Richie standing in the kitchen doorway. Eddie was looking at her in concern while Richie tried to play it off like he didn't want to be there even though they all knew he was worried for her too.
Y/N quickly wiped her eyes to get rid of the small tears that had started to form and plastered a fake smile on her face. "Oh, hey," she said as she waved ever so slightly at the two.
"Shit, you aren't crying, are you?" Richie asked, the tone in his voice making even him wince at his harshness although Y/N was unaffected.
Eddie whacked the boy and glanced over at the girl. "I think what Richie was trying to do was ask if you are okay."
"I don't know about-" Richie began, but Eddie was stomping on his shoe within a second, the boy stopping mid sentence to mutter a bunch of curse words as he hopped up and down on one foot.
"I'm fine," Y/N said, making both boys glance at each other before looking to her with their eyebrows raised. "Really, guys. I'm fine."
"Well, I'm fucking not. So if I'm able to tell you just how not fine I am, you should be able to do the same without lying to my face," Richie told her in slight annoyance as he walked over to stand closer to her, Eddie following right behind.
"Richie's right. None of us are fine and we all know it. Then we have Bill out there worrying more about if you're okay than if he's okay. We had to stop him from coming in here five times by the way since we knew you were on the phone. So don't give us the whole 'I'm fine' crap cause we know you aren't," Eddie said.
Y/N stared at her two friends in silence before she leaned her back against the counter with a sigh and let her head fall back into her hands. Richie was the first to go over to the girl which wasn't really a surprise to any of them. Richie may try to act like he didn't care about things, but when it came to Y/N or even any of his friends, he cared a lot more than he let on.
The boy's arms wrapped around her and Y/N let her body fall against his as her shoulders began to shake, tears filling her eyes. Eddie smiled sadly and walked over before hugging her from the other side and leaning his head on top of hers. Y/N instantly latched her arm on top of Eddie's and was quick to hold his hand as the three stood there comforting one another.
It took a minute, but Y/N eventually managed to stop crying and sniffles as she wiped her tears away. "I'm not fine," she admitted. "And I haven't been fine since the last night after the arcade."
"Why? What happened?" Eddie asked while Richie took his sleeve and helped wipe the girl's tears away. Eddie and Y/N both glanced at the boy and he rolled his eyes at the two before ruffling Y/N's hair just to mess it up and make a point.
Y/N let a small smile peak through and that was enough to make her realize that she could tell them what had happened, that she wanted to tell them what had happened.
"It was late last night, right before the storm hit. I was taking the trash outside to help my parents out when I heard something in the bushes across the street. I thought it was just the wind, but then something started to walk out of the bushes and the lightning flashed, revealing the one thing I thought I would never see again," Y/N told them. Her face paled slightly and for a moment it was as if she was seeing the events of last night all over again.
"A demogorgon."
"Demogorgon? You mean those things you have mentioned before? The ones you fought in Hawkins?" Eddie asked.
Y/N nodded and let her eyes flicker over to Richie, waiting for a snarky response to come from the boy, but all he did was watch her in silence, waiting for her to finish with her story. She let out a small sigh of relief at that and continued.
"It was like I was paralyzed, but then the thing started to come towards me and I snapped out of it and ran inside. Then came the freaky part cause I looked outside my window and instead of the demogorgon, I saw that thing, that clown," Y/N shuddered.
"You saw It?" Richie asked, his eyes wide.
Y/N nodded. "Yeah. Then the lightning kept flashing and all of a sudden both the demogorgon and It were together and with each flash they got closer and closer until they were just on the other side of the window. I was so freaked out that I screamed and fell back, but by the time my father came running in, they were both gone," she finished, her body shaking slightly just from retelling what had happened.
"Well, fuck. No wonder you were acting so weird all day. You were scared shitless," Richie muttered as his eyes flashed with concern.
"That's why you were so concerned about Mike," Eddie concluded causing the girl to nod.
"I wasn't sure if what had happened last night was real or not, so when Mike didn't show up, I got a little scared. It reminded me too much of what had happened to my friend Will back in middle school.  Then I saw that portal and fucking clown earlier tonight I knew what I had seen wasn't a dream and that Mike had been taken," Y/N explained.
"So that's why you're trying to call your friends. You're hoping they can help," Eddie realized.
"Exactly," Y/N said.
"Well what did they say?" Richie asked. "Were you crying cause of them? Did they say something?" He was starting to get a little defensive of the girl and for a moment she was reminded of Steve Harrington, the boy who was practically her brother.
"No, they didn't say anything actually because they didn't answer. That's why you found me crying—because I was so stressed about not knowing what to do," Y/N explained.
Eddie and Richie frowned, but they didn't get a chance to respond because there was a knock on the door. The trio turned to see Bill standing in the doorway, concern in his eyes as they flickered over the three before landing on Y/N.
"E-E-Everything okay?" Bill asked, although he was really asking to see if Y/N was alright.
"Not really," Y/N admitted. "No one's answering my calls."
Bill frowned and looked to the ground for a moment before looking back up at the girl. "W-W-Wait, today's M-M-Monday, right?" He asked.
"Yeah," Y/N replied, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "Why is that-?" A loud gasp escaped her lips as a lightbulb went off in her head. "Billy boy, you are a genius!"
"What's so fucking special about Monday?" Richie asked as Y/N sped by the boys and out the door, but not before stopping to kiss Bill's cheek in a thank you.
Bill instantly turned red in the face and blinked a few times to get out of his daze before looking over at his friends. "S-S-Since it's Monday, Y-Y-Y/N has another way of c-c-contacting her f-f-friends," Bill explained. "However. . ." He trailed off and looked to the ground as he realized what everyone was going to have to do in order for her to be able to contact the her friends in Hawkins.
"I'm lost," Eddie muttered.
"M-M-Monday is the day Y/N t-t-talks to Dustin," Bill explained. "B-B-But she doesn't exactly c-c-communicate with him over the ph-ph-phone."
"What does she do? Write a letter?" Richie asked sarcastically. Bill just gave the boys a small almost apologetic smile.
"Y-Y-You'll see."

"You've got to be shitting me," Richie muttered as he stared up at the huge hills in front of them, the rest of the Losers all looking at the view in front of them with wide eyes as they realized they would have to climb it.
Bill and Y/N glanced at each other, both of them knowing how tired their friends would be by the time they reached the top. Y/N often hiked the small mountain, knowing it was easiest to reach her friend from up there, and Bill had even joined her on a few occasions so they both knew how difficult it was and just how much complaining to expect.
"Oh, it's not that bad," Y/N assured them as she tried to keep her voice as optimistic sounding as possible so that the Losers wouldn't give up hope.
"Y-Y-Y/N's right. We w-w-walk it all the t-t-time," Bill said.
The Losers all glanced at each other and Beverly sighed before nodding her head. "Then lets get going. This might take a while," she sighed.
Y/N sent the girl a thankful smile which Beverly returned. "Come on guys," Y/N said as she turned, tightened the straps of her huge backpack, and began to hike up the mountain. Bill quickly followed after her and Beverly began hiking only a few seconds after them.
It was no surprise that Ben went next as he hurried to catch up to Beverly. That left Stan, Richie, and Eddie. "I'm going to have a fucking asthma attack," Eddie muttered with a shake of his head as he took a puff of his inhaler and began to climb after the four.
"I can't believe we are doing this," Stan whispered to Richie, turning his head to look at the boy.
"Me either," Richie said as he looked up at the hills one last time. He took in a deep breath before slapping Stan on the back. "Come on, Stan the Man. Let's start moving or we'll never get up this fucking mountain."
Stan nodded and reluctantly began to walk up the hill with Richie by his side. "I mean, it can't be that bad," Stan pointed out before he glanced over at his friend. "Right?"
- - -
"I'm dying," Richie cried out as he plopped down on the ground on the top of the hill, his breathing fast and shallow. "I think I'm developing asthma cause my lungs fucking hurt. I can't breathe. I'm going to die."
"Shut the hell up," Eddie muttered with a roll of his eyes as he lightly kicked the boy who had laid on the ground by his feet. In Eddie's defense, Richie has been the one to lay there and he was being a bit of a prick.
Richie sent a glare in his friend's direction before reluctantly pulling himself up and turning to see everyone — except for him and Eddie — was watching Y/N as she rummaged through her bag and began to pull out equipment.
"What the hell is that?" Richie asked as he pulled himself up onto his feet. He walked over to where Y/N was, Eddie right behind him, before he scrunched up his nose in disgust and said, "Is that a fucking radio?"
"Yep," Y/N replied, not fazed by the person that was Richie Tozier.
"No offense, Y/N, but how is that supposed to help us?" Stan inquired.
"Yeah, didn't you tell us before that Hawkins is like a little less than a day's car ride away?" Ben questioned, everyone's eyes falling on the girl.
"Well, for starters, this radio is unlike any radio you have ever seen. Not only did I make it myself, but there are only two like it, one of them being this one while the other belongs to my friend Dustin who helped me make the radios. We made them one summer at science camp and they help with long-range communication," Y/N explained.
"So why did we climb this hill?" Eddie asked.
"Because the higher up we are, the better signal we will have," Y/N replied.
"What if Dustin doesn't have his radio on?" Beverly asked.
"That's where the whole it being a Monday thing comes into play. Dustin and I usually try and talk on the radios every Monday if we can. It's the only time I can really talk to my friends without any interruptions. And since it's a Monday, Dustin should be on. However, since we were at the Well House and the back at my house trying to call everyone, I missed the usual time we talk. So right now we are going on pure hope that Dustin is still there," Y/N told them.
"We're going off hope? Hope?" Richie asked, his eyes wide as he looked at his friends as if to confirm that they thought this idea was crazy as well. However, none of them seemed to agree with the boy. Richie rolled his eyes and let out a sigh, "This is fucking stupid."
"You know who else said that? Your mom when she gave birth to you," Y/N retorted before she proceeded to pretend to be the boy and let out a holler as she held a hand out to Eddie. Eddie snickered and high fived the girl while Richie frowned.
He could tell this was going to be a long night.
- - -
The night turned out to be just as long for the Losers as Richie has predicted, each of them so tired that their eyes struggled to stay open. The only thing keeping them awake was their fear for Mike and the sound of Y/N desperately talking into the radio and repeating every five minutes, "Guys? Dustin? This is Y/N. Does anyone copy? I've got a code red situation. I repeat, a code red situation. Over."
Besides Y/N, Bill was the only other person fully awake, both him and Y/N talking about nonsense as they kept each other awake and awaited a response. The others had all walked a little ways away to lay on the mountain-like hill as they talked, leaving Bill and Y/N by themselves.
This led to the two taking about anything they could think of, even going as far as for Y/N to open up to Bill about what had happened the previous night with It and the demogorgon. Bill had been a little upset that she hadn't told him, but understood seeing as she hadn't wanted to cause a panic when not knowing if what had happened was real or not.
But as the time drug on, the two slowly began to grow tired. Before they knew it, Y/N had found herself leaning against Bill and was struggling to keep her eyes open while Bill was resting his head on top of the girl's with an arm wrapped around her and his eyes closed.
Y/N let out a small sigh and spoke into her radio as she let out a tired yawn, "Guys? This is Y/N. . .again. Does anyone copy? This is a code red situation. I repeat, a code red situation. Over."
Just like the other times, she got no response. Y/N huffed and tried again, "This is Y/N. I have a code red situation. I repeat, a code red situation. Is anyone there? Over."
A groan escaped Richie's lips as he looked at the watch on his wrist to see that it was eleven o'clock. "That's it!" He exclaimed as he got up onto his feet, his sudden actions and booming voice startling everyone awake including Eddie who gave Richie a deathly glare.
Bill jumped from beside Y/N and his eyes shot open before he looked down to see just how close he had gotten to the girl while he was asleep. The two blushed slightly and sat up straighter before looking over at Richie.
"This is ridiculous!" Richie yelled. "They obviously aren't going to answer, so why are we wasting time when we could be using it to help Mike?"
The Losers didn't respond, each of them looking down as they realized Richie was right. Y/N, however, shook her head. "You don't get it, Richie," Y/N began, but the boy was quick to shake his head and cut her off.
"No, you don't get it, Y/N! That fucking clown has our friend and the longer It has him, the less likely it is that Mike is even alive!" Richie yelled.
Y/N frowned and got up onto her feet. "You think I don't know that? You have no idea what I've been through, Richie! The Upside Down is not something you want to fuck around with and I'm sure It is not any better!" she argued.
Richie let out a groan of disbelief. "You're seriously still going on about this? You know what, we shouldn't even be arguing right now. We need to save Mike because it's our job as his fucking friends to help him!" Richie yelled.
Y/N was seething at the point, the anger and fear coursing through her body only making her think irrationally. She opened her mouth to yell at her friend, but she felt someone lightly grab her wrist and tug on it.
The girl spun around and instantly softened at the sight of Bill. He gave her a small sad smile before whispering, "Y/N, Richie's right. I'm sorry, but we need to help Mike."
She hesitated at that, her eyes flickering over all of her friends as she realized they all agreed with Richie, that the longer they waited, the more harm that would come to Mike.
A small sigh escaped the girl's mouth and she gently pulled her arm away from Bill before hugging her body. She was just abut to open her mouth and give up when the sound of static filled the air. Y/N instantly turned at that, her eyes landing on her radio as a voice began to fill the air.
"Y/N? This is Dustin. Did I hear you say a code red situation? Over."
Y/N didn't know whether she wanted to cry or yell out in joy, so the sound that escaped her lips was a mix between a squeal and a sob. She rushed over to the radio and quickly picked up the com before pressing a button and spewing out at a hundred words a second, "Dustin! Oh boy, am I glad to hear you! Sorry for not being on earlier. I was a little busy. Yes, this is a code red situation. I repeat, a code red situation! I need you and the gang to get to Derry as quick as possible. Over."
There was a moment of static before Dustin said, "You're messing with me, right? You want us to go to Maine? That's at least a seventeen hour drive! Are you crazy? Over."
Y/N groaned in frustration while the Losers all watched her. "Dustin, listen to me. I wouldn't ask this of you all if I wasn't serious. Over," she insisted.
"Give me one good reason why we should come down there. Over," Dustin said.
The girl paused, her eyes flickering up at the look at the Losers who had all crowded around her before she glanced down and whispered, "They're back."
There was a long silence before Dustin's voice came through sounding both scared and confused, "What?"
"You heard what I said!" Y/N said as she raised her voice. "They're back and now my friend is missing just like what happened to Will all those years ago. I need you guys to come to Maine. Do whatever it takes to get here. Have Nancy or Jonathan or even Steve pile you all in a car and drive you here cause this is unlike anything we have ever seen, Dustin. And I can't. . .we can't do it without you guys. Over."
"Whose we? Over," Dustin said.
Y/N glanced over at her friends and they all looked at her expectantly. "You'll see," Y/N said into her com. "Does this mean you'll get the Party to come or what? Over."
There was a long silence, one that had Y/N practically rocking back and forth anxiously. Then the familiar sound of static filled the air before Dustin said, "Copy that."
Both Y/N and the rest of the Losers all let out a collective sigh of relief. "Hold tight and try and get as much information as you can about what's going on without getting into too much trouble. We're on our way. Over," Dustin said.
"Thank God," Y/N sighed. "See you soon. Over."
"Be careful, Y/N."
"You too, Dustin."
The connection went dead not even a second later and Y/N turned off the radio before turning to look at the Losers who were all watching her in silence. She pulled herself up onto her feet and gave them all a small determined nod, "Now let's go find Mike."

Loud knocking on his apartment door was not what Steve Harrington wanted to wake up to. Opening the door to see that the knocking belonged to none other than the little shit heads that he had someone frown to care about — he was still unsure how that had happened — well that was when he realized that was even worse than having to wake up when someone else was knocking.
Steve yawned and rubbed his eyes before leaning up against the doorway, his eyes squinting as he looked at the faces of Dustin Henderson, Mike Wheeler, Eleven Hopper, Will Byers, Lucas Sinclair and Max Mayfield.
"You better be here selling Girl Scout cookies or I'm going to shut the door in your face," Steve warned.
"We're not here selling-" Steve didn't even let Lucas finish his sentence before he had slammed the door in the kids' faces. He let out a yawn and turned to walk away when the knocking suddenly came back, only this time more persistent than before.
Steve let out a small groan before opening the door and looking to the seventeen year olds in annoyance. "What could you possibly want at-" Steve paused to glance at the clock on his wall and let out a groan, "-one in the morning? You do realize you have school tomorrow and I have work, right?"
"School and work can wait," Max insisted. "This is more important."
"If it's not Girl Scout cookies then I don't know how it can be any more important than that," Steve sighed as he yawned again.
"It's Y/N," Dustin said, that simple sentence causing the older boy to freeze mid-yawn. Steve let his eyes flicker over to the boy and the look he gave him was one that told him to continue.
Dustin took in a deep breath before beginning his small speech that he had already given to the other members of the Party, "So I was supposed to have my normal conversation with Y/N like I usually do on Monday's, right? Well she wasn't there when I got on tonight which I thought was really weird so I changed frequencies and talked to Susie for a bit before going back to talk to Y/N. When I changed frequencies, Y/N was back on and talking about a code red situation. So basically, she really needs our help because the Upside Down is back and her friend has been taken. She needs us to drive to Derry, Maine like as quick as we can."
"Maine?" Steve asked his eyes wide. "That's like a seventeen hour drive at least!"
"That's what I said! But she really needs us, Steve. All of us," Dustin told him. "Jonathan and Nancy already can't come and Robin is out of town, so you're our last person we decided to come and recruit before we end up driving ourselves all the way to Maine."
"Listen, Dustin, I've got work and-"
"It's Y/N," Dustin said, his voice raising slightly in anger. "Our best friend. She's done anything and everything that she could for us and right now, she needs us to return the favor. Don't act like you aren't sure if you can come because I'm calling bullshit! the two of you were closer than anyone else! You are practically family! She needs you, Steve! So stop being an asshole, go put some clothes on, and get in the fucking car!"
Steve blinked in surprise at Dustin's little outburst before relaxing slightly and nodding. Dustin was right. Y/N needed him. The boy let out a small sigh and turned to walk back into his apartment.
"I'll get the bat."
