EP 097, Nov 16, 2016 - Matt Tong, Bloc Party, Algiers The Hilarious World of Depression - A show about clinical depression...with laughs? Well, yeah. Depression is an incredibly common and isolating disease experienced by millions, yet often stigmatized by society. The Hilarious World of Depression is a series of frank, moving, and, yes, funny conversations with top comedians who have dealt with this disease, hosted by veteran humorist and public radio host John Moe. Join guests such as Maria Bamford, Paul F. Tompkins, Andy Richter, and Jen Kirkman to learn how they’ve dealt with depression and managed to laugh along the way. If you have not met the disease personally, it’s almost certain that someone you know has, whether it’s a friend, family member, colleague, or neighbor. Depression is a vicious cycle of solitude and stigma that leaves people miserable and sometimes dead. Frankly, we’re not going to put up with that anymore. The Hilarious World of Depression is not medical treatment and should not be seen as a substitute for therapy or medication. But it is a chance to gain some insight, have a few laughs, and realize that people with depression are not alone and that together, we can all feel a bit better. Recommended Episodes: EP 02, dec 19, 2016 - Maria Bamford, EP 09, feb 6, 2017 - Paul F Tompkins, EP Placebo: jul 17, 2017 - John Darnielle

Podcast Discovered in 2016:
Beautiful Anonymous - 1 phone call. 1 hour. No names. No holds barred. That’s the premise behind Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People, hosted by comedian Chris Gethard (the Chris Gethard Show, Broad City, This American Life, and one of Time Out’s “10 best comedians of 2015”). Every week, Chris opens the phone line to one anonymous caller, and he can’t hang up first, no matter what. From shocking confessions and family secrets to philosophical discussions and shameless self-promotion, anything can and will happen!
Lore - True life scary stories. Our fears have roots. Lore exposes the darker side of history, exploring the creatures, people, and places of our wildest nightmares. Because sometimes the truth is more frightening than fiction. Short creepy stories, get freaked out in public!
99% Invisible - Is about all the thought that goes into the things we don’t think about — the unnoticed architecture and design that shape our world. Interesting and short, about 20 minutes per episode. I know this podcast has been around awhile, I’m kinda late to it. I came across it thru AIGA 2015 national conference at New Orleans where the “voice” of the event was none other than the host, Roman Mars. Anyways, there are too many good ones to pick, can’t go wrong starting at any episode!
Song Exploder - A podcast where musicians take apart their songs, and piece by piece, tell the story of how they were made. Recommended Episode: “Andrew Bird - Roma Fad” July 5, 2016
Turned Out A Punk - Join Damian Abraham, of band Fucked UP, former VJ, current host of Vice TV show, Parent, and obsessive Punk fan-boy as he converses with interesting folks who grew up listening, who may or may not be involved with punk but have their lived changed by the genre in a major way. Recommended Episodes: “Lance Bangs EP 99, Sept. 29, 2016″, “Geoff Rickly EP 102, Oct. 21, 2016″, “Craig Ferguson EP 96, Sept. 9, 2016″, “Jon Wurster EP 86, July 1, 2016″, “Walter Schreifels EP 85, June 29, 2016″. Soo many great ones check them out!

Who Charted? with hosts Howard Kremer & Kulap Vilaysack (Earwolf) Kulap and Howard get to know their weekly guests thru the weekly Music and Movie charts. Two episodes per week, Wednesday, Kulap & Howard are joined by a guest and on Friday, (Two Charted) It is a weekly recap with K+H and engineer 'Stard. Equal parts informative, silly pop-culture banter, and awesome intro tunes by Howard and Stard!
Hound Tall with Moshe Kasher (Nerdist) Discussion series recorded live, hosted by Moshe Kasher (Champs podcast), cover a single topic in an hour long chat with an expert on the subject and a panel of comedians. Learn and laugh with Moshe and guests as they balance between the line of serious and silly. Yeah, I guess that is a line? Dunno, are you even reading this. Sadly the episodes are monthly, but luckily there's a back catalog!
Rachel and Miles XPLAIN THE X-MEN (Self-Released) Why? "Because it's about time someone did," is their apt sub-title. The super nerdy but not annoyingly cute couple help take you thru and explain as best they can the confusingly interesting X-Men universe in about an hour. I think they can out nerd the "Comic-Book Guy" from The Simpsons, I wish I could witness that. Subscribe for weekly episodes, start with episode 1!
