I feel like this misunderstands what "show don't tell" means. Caduceus is the PERFECT example of show don't tell. He was a consistent character all throughout the campaign that 100% gave me ace vibes the entire time and then in a natural, organic moment when the topic came up, it was discussed and then they moved on to the next thing. Matt provided an opportunity in the form of the meat vendor flirting with Caduceus and then things went on from there with the follow up conversation between Cad and Veth and the rest of the group.

Show Don't Tell doesn't literally mean, "words aren't allowed to escape the character's lips about the topic." It's basically shorthand imho for saying: stop shoehorning exposition that makes no narrative sense, come up with a coherent, organic, character driven narrative reason for the character to discuss or disclose the thing you want them to discuss or disclose. Cad didn't just randomly proclaim that he was ace in the middle of dinner for no reason, it was in response to something that happened, cause and effect. Good storytelling AND good rep!

I will never not love the fact that Caduceus is canonically aro/ace, and the fact that he says so during the actual campaign. Like, it’s one thing to just have a character not really be into anyone (not obviously, anyway), but it’s another to have said character actually say “yeah, I’m just not into that”.

I know that it’s technically better to “show, not tell”, but to be fair, it’s not always obvious whether or not a character is ACTUALLY a-spec or not. Plus, as someone who is part of the a-spec, I always tend to assume a character is ace/aro unless proven otherwise, so it’s just nice to have a character (that i like) canonically be ace/aro. Gives me more reason to like them, lol.

I suppose the most important, burning animation question is this:

How progressively fucked up are they going to make Sprinkle look as time goes by in the show. Because let's be real, that poor weasel was kept alive by the power of Artagan and plot armor because he was just a pet and didn't go into combat (where he could then get hurt/ die fair and square like Trinket). So he was always "hiding in Jester's armor" lol.

Now here's the dilemma I think they're going to run across. The "Sprinkle longing for death" gag is one of the funniest things ever, but it is highly dependent on Travis and the rest giving voice to Sprinkle's woes as meta commentary. Without that, in a visual medium, unless they strike the balance just right, I think visual animal abuse just isn't that funny. In fact, I think done poorly it could very quickly turn the audience against Jester. Objectively, if you look at the situation stripped of comedy, Jester is a neglectful, abusive pet owner and should feel bad. But obviously that's missing some of the context of the show. And I think that somewhat intangible context is going to be difficult to translate to a visual medium. They could maybe play into the "are we SURE Sprinkle isn't undead? Gag with Fjord asking Caduceus to just double check or something. They could try to translate some bits of the meta into the character's mouths.

I think there's a good chance they'll skip it altogether and just have her be competent at pet care which is really too bad considering a good chunk of the audience already infantilizes Jester and ignores all of her flaws. Keeping one of the funny yet terrible things she did as a running gag would be good. And it's just so funny. Poor Sprinkle.

This episode really demonstrates why M9 won the battle royale. They really are nigh unkillable.

They are rolling like dogshit and losing spell slots left and right, have less PCs than the VM fight at the Key, have taken exhaustion points and soo much damage, and their healing is being sabotaged.

But they still managed to complete their encounter in less than 1 episode. They managed to avoid all the obstacles leading to the boss fight. They had no deaths.

This party build is legit insane. Theyre so mobile, cant pin them down. Their casters control the battlefield. Their tanks are basically immortal. They have 2 guaranteed Divine Interventions, 2 Mass Heals. They have 1 Vestige, and an unending well of tricks in Fjord and Veth. They are dripping with advantages, resistances, and rerolls.

Point of view: You are three apples tall and you are faced with something so big that your halfling body can barely grasp what it's looking at.

Orym and Caduceus are canonically the smallest and the tallest people between Bells Hells and the Mighty Nein, and I had way too much fun drawing my interpretation of Orym's perspective next to a giant-kin.

Also, there is this video going around of a tortoise being gently nudged by a giraffe as it is fleeing in terror, and I want you to think about that for a sec.
