~Another Time~
Modern verse
@xhideyourfires
Novella walked behind her father as they made their way into the building, it was large and open and Novella couldn't help but look around and be in awe of it. Her father had a meeting with Jacopo Pazzi, to try to strike up a business deal, concerning what exactly Novella was not exactly sure about that. She was honestly a bit surprised that her father asked her to come along, Novella didn't know why but she didn't want to give up the opportunity to learn more about the business.
Although her father had told her to wait in the lobby once the receptionist had called him into Jacopo's office. Novella opened her mouth to protest but before she could get a word out her father was gone. A breath of frustration left her lips and she sat down, smoothing out the skirt of her dress, her red curls tied back away from her face. Her eyes scanned her surroundings and she picked up a magazine from a table and began flipping through the pages.

FLORENCE, ITALY | IL DUOMO OF FLORENCE
Imola had been lost. More importantly, so had Francesco. He felt the latter's loss more, however surprising that might have been. Imola could be won again, despite the Pope's purchase of it, but he was not so sure that the same could be said of Francesco. What had Jacopo said for him to turn against them so quickly?
While Lorenzo could play as naive as he desired, he knew it was not only Jacopo's doing; his business dealings with the Pope and what truly been given to the Pazzi's had not entirely an innocent slight. Francesco had even questioned his motives then, but Lorenzo had never believed it would tear them apart. His own dismissal had only served to prove what lie Jacopo had fed his friend.
For the good of the Medici bank.
It echoed in his mind, when he would find a moment to rest, or when he believed he was more alone than he had ever been. With Giuliano mourning Simonetta, he had no one to bear the brunt of things. There once had been a time where his brother's absence would have nearly been missed, or even unnoticed. Not to say that he had not loved his brother, only that his own loneliness had been a shallow fountain then - it had become a sea.
With the Pope preparing an army to Imola, supposedly to set upon Florence, he knew he needed more than his family by his side. And for that, he would have to admit his sins and possibly those of his fathers before him, no matter how difficult it would be for him to do so. Republics could not be built without a cost.
As the carriage rode along the stones, there were bumps along the way, yet the carriage was never set off the track - it still persevered. I will become the carriage, if I must, he thought, though he was less sure that his path would be so easy.
He passed the many doors surrounding the cathedral, and the many people making their way to mass. There, in the many pews that were held there, they would still be separated by status, but God would see them as equals. They would dip their fingers into holy water and bless His name as equals. Such a small thing set a smile on his lips, for he wished the rest of Florence could be so.
Lorenzo dreamed for it to be so.
When he arrived, his coachmen knocked on the wood, pulling him from his daydreams and to the mouth of the cathedral. He found his brother there, waiting for him, as he exited the carriage. He spoke a few choice words to Bastiano, before encouraging his brother to believe in the good of othes, that words could bring peace before the sword.
As they turned and walked the steps, his heart grew heavy at the sight of his friend, a small smile set onto his face. In the months that had passed, Lorenzo had not seen such a sight, despite the many times he had seen the Florentine banker.
He found himself stopping, with Francesco met his gaze; there was regret there, but there was something else, something ready to take on a life of its own. Lorenzo felt it, in the very fiber of his being, that the mass service would change the tides, though he could not say whether it would be in any of their favors.
"I know our families have had their disagreements, but I hope from now on, we can bury that, start new, for all our sakes." The smile that touched his mouth was friendship, his arms held out for an embrace. It was one that had not been shared in many fortnights.
Lorenzo could not help but think of his grandmother, her wish to see their families at peace, for eternity. But it was not just her, but the shadow that had been hanging over both of them that reminded him to let the past live there, to make anew with what they could.
After a moment, he moved forward, his own arms wrapping around his friend, though he could not claim his heart remained entirely whole. For both of their sakes, he whispered, "I always meant for us to be friends, Francesco."
"We shall be again."
While Lorenzo would not admit it to his brother, to the many seeing them at the mouth of the cathedral, he had sunk right into the embrace at the promise, relief flooding through him. Whatever spat had risen from Jacopo, whatever unthinkable had been requested of the Florentine banker, Francesco had stood against him, one last time.
As they pulled away, to face one another again, Lorenzo touched the back of his neck, a smile being shared between them both - for a moment, all transgressions were forgotten.
"I am glad to hear it," he began, looking down to the ring he'd been given when he had removed his father from the Priori. He twisted it around his finger in thought, a sigh leaving him. "I don't want to simply begin another chapter of our friendship, Francesco. I would see our banks united, again." Brown eyes searched his, there was that secret in them again. "Truly united, not in word, but in deeds and parchment."

Minette watches Medici, part 15 (Betrayal)
- This is probably going to be a short one, because I don’t have much to complain about this episode? Like, the whole thing is questionable from the historical perspective and has a lot of problems carried over from the previous episodes, but overall the buildup to the Pazzi plot kinda slaps? Who knows, maybe I’ll fill this one with compliments instead.
- First off, one thing I forgot to mention in the previous entry: the decision to tie Galeazzo’s murder to the Pazzi conspiracy. And I mean, those two things were related, in that they were both attempts to remove an autocratic ruler and reinstate the old semi-oligarchical order, but they weren’t literally perpetuated by the same people. With that said, as far as deviations from history go, this is one of the better ones, because it fits very well into the main plot. Like, if they are going to disregard the history completely, they might as well give us something this good.
- Look, I hate to say this, because she was a great gal and shit, but... They should’ve killed Simonetta sooner. I don’t hate some of the things they were trying to do with Giuliano here, like him being distracted by women, wine and general fucking around, untill he falls in love with a girl who inspires him to take his responsibilities more seriously even after she dies. But like... The whole thing was too little too late. Instead we spend most of Simonetta and Giuliano’s time together with their dumb courtship and even dumber drama with her husband and Sandro.
- Also, the whole “Sandro loves her as an object of artistic adoration, while Giuliano loves her as an actual person” would be a great angle to take if it wasn’t for the fact that a) again, too little too late; b) if Giuliano really loved or at least respected her as an actual person, he would’ve left her alone at the first “get lost” and none of this drama would happen. These two had no fucking chemistry, but honestly that’s to be expected, I’ve yet to see a tsundere girl x presumptuous fuckboy pairing that isn’t pure trash. This is the kind of couple that gives enemies to lovers trope a bad name.
- Another thing that was too little too late? The whole thing with Giuliano finding his place as the hard first of the bank, while Lorenzo is the brain and friendly face. I don’t love either of them as characters, but they have a solid dynamic this show refuses to play on for some reason.
- Also let me clown a little on the whitewashing of Sixtus IV., like, I get that The Borgias did the whole “morally ambiguous pope” thing sooner and better, but come the fuck on. Also was his cardinal nephew supposed to be part of the conspiracy, because IRL he very much was...
- Whitewashing of the Medici family is bearing some really nasty fruits here in the form of tragic flattening of the Pazzi conspiracy. Like, where are my liberatores vibes? The Caesar references?! Halooo??? THIS SHIT COULD’VE BEEN SO POIGNANT ASFJG...
- The flashback was... Eh? Contessina’s death had me rolling my eyes, which - you know you’ve fucked up when a best girl is literally dying and my reacting is a fucking eyeroll. At the same time, we finally got some glimpses of an alternate timeline where Francesco de’ Pazzi had a decent characterization. His pride, his penchant for violence, his contentious relationship with his uncle... This dude could’ve been so interesting with some better writing! As it is, my interest in him as a character lives off of scraps and his mighty cheekbones. Ugh.
- But, I cannot emphasize this enough, despite all of my minor complaints, this was a fucking great episode! The plot was well-thought out, fast paced, the chase at the beginning kicked ass, the twists and turns of the plot were exciting, yet made perfect sense, and Carlo, oh my poor sweet Carlo, my heart goes out to you... Also my girls Clarice and Mamma Lucrezia, god how I love them. Like, so much for my conviction that I’ll end this show without any new blorbos. It’s just that I am better at complaining than praising, sorry about that.

The splash of the water quickly faded in with the rain pouring down onto the crashing waves. You remained at the end of the dock for a moment, studying the water, as if your victim would be reanimated by the water, and come back for revenge. Contrary to your imagination however, the rocks you'd desperately shoved into his clothing had been effective.
You took another deep breath to steady yourself. You were still soaked in his blood, although it was almost dried now, even beginning to flake on your skin. You had considered the thought of washing up by the ocean but you decided it was best to flee the scene while you still had the chance. It had to be just midnight, and the possibility of some drunkard seeing you wasn't null. Not to mention the literal blood trail leading to you. You had to think quickly, you didn't know whether someone would come looking for him, or if somebody already was. The Pazzi home was so close by, and you knew you could always seek refuge there, Francesco would never turn you away, but turning up at this hour, covered in blood, minutes after their messenger left, they'd have connected the dots by the morning, and you'd be joining the messenger by noon.
You considered just going home. It was your first instinct, but it was too far. You'd have to cross half the city, not to mention how most of your neighbours would be up at this hour. And the minute Pazzi started looking for information on tonight, they'd all be telling tales for the reward. There wasn't a real sense of community there. You knew a handful of holes in the wall within the city that you could hide out in, but you'd run into the same problem again.
There was one place you could go. It wasn't too far and you could dance around the outside of the city to reach it. It had decent security, sure you knew how to sneak by it but hopefully others couldn't. If anyone happens to track you back there, it wouldn't be an awful shock that it was to the Medici home, and it definitely wouldn't point them in the direction of y/n Bellondini. You began heading there, Lorenzo wouldn't be home anyways, he had made it painfully obvious he was going to Lucrezia tonight. You would have until morning to clean up and rest, and you could explain it to him then, when you had perfected your story.
This has all gotten so terribly out of hand so quickly. You were supposed to do a simple lift. Of a piece of parchment. How did it all go so wrong? You gritted your teeth as a steady stream of tears made their way down your cheek, slipping through the cracks in the blood.
You pulled your cloak tighter around your body, feeling the night as the adrenaline wore off and guilt crept in.
That man had thought he was making a simple delivery. He worked for the Pazzi's exactly as you did. Conversed with Francesco as you did. You wondered how close they were. If Francesco would grieve him. You took some solace in that you had only seen him in the courtyard the once. Although it's not as if you often crossed paths with other Pazzi spies. You didn't have a weekly catch up to gossip about Jacopo's new hair style. How much easier life would be if you did. The simple thought was amusing, until you imagined the man at the bottom of the ocean giggling over your bosses ponytail.
You quickly pushed the thought out of your mind, watching as the Medici home came into your view. Each of your footsteps became precise, your tears stopped falling. You couldn't imagine your fate if you were dragged into Lorenzos office by guards, let alone appearing the way you did right now. It probably wouldn't even be Lorenzo, perhaps his mother or brother, who had no motive to not turn you over to the authorities. You steadied your breathing, you were just raising your own anxiety levels. You were well able to sneak in, you had done it before. No matter how much Lorenzo liked to tease you otherwise, you were a good spy. Such a good spy, you murdered another one. No. You didn't have the time for this now. You did what you had to do.
The grass softened your footsteps as you snuck through the gardens outside Lorenzo's window. There was no one about, what with it being midnight and lashing rain. You skipped across the paths to reach the stone walls, reaching up to grab one of the protruding ones. The wet cobble made it much more difficult to get a proper grip, but you were determined. The sky kept pelting down on you and you climbed, ignoring all thoughts of exhaustion and weakness, willing yourself on. It took you almost double the time it usually would, but you reached Lorenzo's window, and desperately pulled yourself up onto the sill.
You sat there for a moment, collecting your breath, shaking as the sky continued to open itself onto you, the wind feeling harsher at this height. After a few seconds passed, you moved to open the window before freezing to death. You peered into the room quickly, knowing Lorenzo was probably already with Lucrezia right now, but just having the instinct to check. It was dark inside, the only light coming from the fire crackling in the corner, but no one was there. Thank the lord. Your fingers curled around the window frame, attempting to pull it open as you always did, to find it wouldn't budge. You tried to look at it from the inside, unable to get a clear view. It must've been locked. All your effort, to sit on a window sill. You glanced back down at the ground, unsure if you had the effort to make your way back down. Where would you even go once you made it down? You just wanted to close your eyes, they were desperately trying to get you to do so, but you knew you couldn't. Your brain searched for a solution, but you didn't know what to do. You let your head rest against the window pane, your knees huddled into your chest, contemplating just smashing the glass and praying for Lorenzo's forgiveness later. But that would make an awful loud noise... you were running out of options. Your eyes fluttered closed, you knew you couldn't fall asleep here, but you couldn't hold out any longer. A glimmer of light forced your eyes open. They focused on the door opening within the room, Lorenzo had entered. He quickly grabbed something off the desk, clearly having forgotten it, before going to head back out. Your initial instinct was to hide, to not let him know you had failed so badly, but you knew it wasn’t an option right now. You couldn’t choose your pride over your life. You mustered all your energy to knock measly on the glass. Lorenzo froze in his tracks, unsure of what he heard, until you knocked again, this time with more force. He turned, and saw you sitting on his window. He closed the door instantly, shocked, and crossed the room to unlock the window. You tried to move to climb in, his arms moving to your waist to lift you in as you did.
You fell inside, straight into Lorenzo’s hold as he helped you, your hood falling as you burrowed your forehead into him, both of you kneeling on the ground by the window, the rain trickling in. It was as if you crumbled completely beneath his touch. Finally feeling safe enough to do so. You forced yourself not to let any more tears fall, already feeling weak enough. Lorenzo simply held you for a few moments, as if he could feel how badly you needed it.
You pulled back, Lorenzo still holding your arms, “What happened?” He took in your state fully.
“I’m sorry,” you instantly began with, not looking into his eyes, “I didn’t think you’d be here.”
“Y/n,” his hands moved to hold your face instead, forcing you to meet his gaze, “where are you hurt?” His eyes scanned your blood-covered body, looking for a wound he wouldn’t find.
“It’s-“ You sighed, watching as he continued his search, lifting your hand to sit atop his on your cheek, “it’s not my blood.”
Lorenzo froze, staring at the floor beside you, deep in thought. “Good,” his eyes flashed back to yours, as he gave you a flicker of a smile, “what did you do?” His voice had lost any hint of softness, and you remembered who you were dealing with.
“The messenger...” you chose your words carefully, “attacked me,” you lifted your chin to the ceiling, hoping the choke mark was still visible beneath all the blood. Lorenzo’s hands fell to your sides. “I had no choice,” you croaked out, your mind taunting you with the thought of whether or not that was the truth.
Lorenzo stood up, turning away from you, uncharacteristically quiet. “You killed him?” He asked, peering over his shoulder to gage your reaction. You nodded ever so slightly, dropping your head afterwards, as if you were hearing the news yourself for the first time.
Lorenzo’s footsteps padded across the oak floors, until you heard the door creak open. He’d left you. He was going to tell everyone. You shouldn’t of trusted him. You spun to face the window, the rain pouring down even stronger than before. There was no way you made that trip safely. What did you do?
The door opened again, and Lorenzo was back, with a bowl in his hands. Your eyebrows furrowed, he hadn’t gone to yell your crimes to all of Florence? He set the bowl down beside you, before kneeling in front of you. Without a word, he reached into the dish, which you could now see held water, and pulled out a piece of cloth. He rinsed it, letting the majority of the water drip back in, before lifting the fabric to your face, gently prodding at the blood. You despised how you leaned into his touch. His other hand positioned itself under your chin to hold you steady. You closed your eyes, not being able to look at him. This was certainly not what you expected from him. The soft crackling of the fire was the only noise in the room for a few moments.
“I got it,” you spoke up, desperate for him to not view you as a complete failure.
“Hmm?” He stayed focused on washing your face.
“The message,” you reached to retrieve it to give it to him.
“Thank you,” he took it from you and placed it behind him. His lack of interest almost offended you, but you caught yourself, as he refreshened the cloth in the water.
“Where is he... now?” Lorenzo questioned tenderly.
“Swimming,” you replied instantly, your voice steady as you kicked his lifeless body off the dock all over again. Lorenzo let out a light chuckle, before moving down to dab at your neck. You winced without thinking.
“Sorry,” his movements became much more gentle, you couldn’t believe how he was acting so kind.
“It’s fine,” you assured him, tipping your head back slightly to make his job easier. You readied yourself now, willing yourself not to flinch. And you didn’t.
“No one saw you?”
“No one.”
There wasn’t much to clean after that. It was all over your dress and cloak, but on your actual skin there was just your arms left. He brought your hands into the bowl to clean them, both of your attention being brought to his ring which you still stupidly hadn’t taken off. You gently took the rag off of him, finishing rinsing your hands. He smiled, although there was no happiness in his eyes. He got up once again, heading for his wardrobe, pulling out one of his undershirts.
“I’ll get you something proper in the morning, but you can sleep in this,” he passed the garment to you.
“Thank you,” you graciously took it from him. You knew he had to do all this, so he wouldn’t suffer the consequences when people found out who you were working for, but he didn’t have the usual bitterness he carried around you. It was strange, but you invited it. He picked up the bowl off the floor as you slipped your cloak off, moving it to his desk, turning away from you. “Two nights now in my room, y/n, people will begin to talk,” he teased, still looking away from you. You took the opportunity to change, although Lorenzo didn’t face back until you spoke.
You moved past his comment. “What of my clothes?”
Spinning to meet your gaze, he took the aforementioned clothes from where you’d dropped them on the floor. “I hope they weren’t your favourite,” he huffed before tossing them into the fire. You watched as the flames struggled to catch them, until they were fully engulfed.
“Get some rest,” Lorenzo tilted his head to the bed.
“I really am sorry,” you promised him, he had been too kind to you, you didn’t trust it, you had expected a far harsher reception.
“It’s as you said, you had no choice. We’ll talk more tomorrow. For now, rest.” He spoke calmly.
You just nodded in gratitude, climbing into the soft sheets for a second night, your mind wandering as soon your head hit the pillow. You wondered if he was just rushing you so he could go meet up with Lucrezia already. You had certainly made him late. Or if he was waiting to suffocate you in your sleep. You shouldn’t of slept either way, but you couldn’t help it. Exhaustion was too quick to take over, your body desperate for a moment of relaxation.
In your last moments of consciousness you wondered how long it would take before Lorenzo left you, rushing to Lucrezia, choosing her. Although, it didn’t take him any time, as he didn’t do it. He stayed there, sitting on the same chair as the night before, all night. He chose you.

medici imagine
here is a separate imagine for the medici fandom, I am debating making this into a series in which I will link the imagines I have made for them.
(Y/N Maddalena and Lorenzo are married/have one child in this imagine)
summary: it is the day of mass, Francesco, Salviati, Jacopo and pope Sixtus have conspired against the medici family. This is not only for the power that Jacopo promised pope Sixtus in the removal of the medici family but the betrayal Francesco feels for losing his brother, but his sister Y/N Maddalena to them also. On the morning of mass, Sunday 26th April 1478, the world for the medici family was about to change and Y/N would have to choose between her husband or her family.
..........
In the days before what happened on that excruciating night, Y/N knew something wasn't right, her family were often meeting in secret, you usually knew all their plots and schemes, but there was nothing. It was like your uncle and brother had disappeared off the face of the earth. Something did not feel right in the air, you had a great sense of this, you'd often trust your gut feeling when it came to it. What were they planning? and why had no one consulted you, you knew with marrying Lorenzo there would be some issues, although it was for your families own gain originally, they did not expect you to reciprocate the feelings towards Lorenzo. They knew then they had lost their greatest possession and to a medici at that, you were no longer a Pazzi and you knew that deep down.
Sunday 26th April 1478, today was high mass. You were in your beautiful home in Florence, watching your daughter play with Guiliano in the courtyard, this was good for Guiliano, since the death of Simonetta he had been lost in his thoughts. Your daughter Lucrezia was just 2 years old but how she was growing so fast, she could walk and she was even starting to talk, a credit to the medici tutors. You feel two hands travel down your corset, the shivers that it sends through your core is beyond you, 2 years married and this man could still make you feel like you did when you first said I love you. Lorenzo’s head rested on your shoulders, placing bare kisses to them, you turn to him smiling and placing a kiss on his lips.
Tumblr media
“she takes after her mother” Lorenzo began speaking, as you lent back from Lorenzo you giggled and replied, “what, a livewire, keeping everyone on their toes”. Lorenzo laughed with you, as he held you tight with his arms around your waist and said `’well there's that yes but she's beautiful just like her mother”.
“she is beautiful isn't she, I just feel for your brother, I wish he could have what we have, it breaks my heart to see him like this”
“I know my dear, he will one day, just give him time to heal, all we can do now is be there for him” Lorenzo replied
Tumblr media
You continued to smile down at your daughter and Guiliano playing, until Bianca and their mother called you down to the carriage, you said your goodbyes to your daughter who you left with the maid, you did not see the point in taking her to mass at only the age of 2 when she doesn't understand its meaning. You arrived at the Duomo where thousands of people were preparing for Sunday mass, yet you did not see your uncle and Francesco, you had had a weird gut feeling all morning, something did not sit well with you and with them not being there at mass, this made you even more weary. 10 minutes had passed and there were still not sign of them, but Salviati sat right diagonal from you, grinning and nodding at you as if he had something over you. You lean into Lorenzo and whisper “Lorenzo, something doesn't feel right, my brother and uncle are not present”. Lorenzo utterly confused at to your worry, but with recent events with the medici and Pazzi family he had no fear. Lorenzo shrugged off your worry, in which frustrated you, it was until then all of a sudden you saw a black figure appear, cloaked to sit behind Guiliano and in that moment you screamed, it was like your whole world flashed before your eyes, Guiliano was stabbed, the sharp actions of the knife replayed in your mind, you counted 19 times. You instantly feared for your husbands life and ran to his mother and sister, urging them to retreat into the side chamber, Lucrezia eager to get to her son Guiliano, lying there in a pool of blood.
Tumblr media
“Lucrezia please we have to move, Bianca help me get your mother to the chamber” you shouted, Bianca there dragging her mother to the chamber, the cries of a mother who had lost her son echoed, it felt like the walls were shaking. Lucrezia crying and screaming her sons name, you finally got her into the chamber, where you threw Bianca a sword to protect her if anyone tried to get inside. Bianca teary shouted, “Y/N what are you to do”
“what I should of done a long time ago Bianca, now please keep quiet”
you run to your husband who was fighting off Francesco, Francesco lifts his sword ready to swipe down a weak and wounded Lorenzo, you slide infant of Lorenzo, face to face with your brother. Tears and blood stuck to your face, you cried to your brother
“you kill him, then you have to kill me Francesco” francesco tried to shove you out the way but the grip you have over Lorenzo was too strong for him to compete with.
‘I SAID MOVE NOW SISTER” Francesco repeated, lifting his sword once more to aim at Lorenzo, it was then where you stood at the blades end, the tip scraping at your throat. Francesco had a pain in his eyes, there stood his sister, fighting for his enemy, his own little sister, would he have to kill her to get to Lorenzo, had Jacopo really drove him this far. Your eyes pleaded with his, there was fear in his eyes, but not in yours, yours were dark with anger, this was your brother and he was lost, you had lost him completely.
“I am not your sister, I haven't been for a while now, you know that, you would rather let that man turn you against me than to be by my side. You have just killed my Childs uncle, my husbands brother so I would gladly die right now for my husband Francesco if it meant you had to live with that pain forever like he will have to” you pleaded, pushing further and further into his sword, your blood now dripping on his sword. Francesco drops his sword and turns to face Jacapo, jacapo filled with disgust in both of you, he runs out of the duomo. You drop to your knees, both palms on Lorenzo’s face who kneels next do his brother, head in shame. you both just look at each other, one another thankful t be alive but broken at the same time. Lorenzo grabs both hands and places them onto his lap and questions
“why did you do that, why Y/N”
“Lorenzo, will you ever learn, I am your wife, always and forever I will protect you and our family” you cried, waving your hands of his wounds. “you are all I have now, you are my family”
“I am forever in your debt my love, I love you with all my heart, every fibre of my being I love you and I am yours” Lorenzo declares, once more taking your hands and holding you by his side, guilianos body lay there, cold as ice. His mother and sister gather around you both, sobbing. Now you knew, the Pazzi family will pay for what they have done and you would help the medici Family take down your family.

( anon ) asked : Francesco, how do you feel knowing that your son is a failure of a Templar? || @lost-assassins || @shadxwcd
Tumblr media
There was a kind of disdain that very few outside of the nobility had ever managed to project towards others, and Francesco himself was rather good at it. It meant others felt, rightfully, that they were below him when they dared to approach him for anything, most prominently business. It also meant that the riffraff parted for him as he crossed the streets of Florence. Those few who lacked the brains to realise their difference in power and influence were soon taught otherwise.
Francesco had been under the impression that such fools were weeded out from their prestigious organisation, but that seemed unfortunately not to be the case. As such, it was his duty as a proud and noble Templar to weed away the incompetence poisoning their organisation— Ah, after he ensured the fool had no important tasks to be carrying out. Ones that Francesco would be most content to take over and complete with the competence and attention to detail that they deserved.
This fool's fate was already signed.
Those cold, denigrating eyes stared down upon their opponent now, making quite clear what Francesco thought of them without even the need to grace the other with his words. Ah, but the fool had lit a fire within Francesco, the same that meant his doom, and so he would answer, if only to sate a dying man's misplaced curiosity.
"You know, I was much like Vieri when I was a child." Those cool brown eyes that looked almost hazel in combination with his green robes pinned the fool in place with his gaze alone. "He will achieve greatness in time, and rule this family as I have. he is still young, still ruled greatly by his emotions, and he will learn as he must, with experience, that control over ones self is essential to being a good ruler. And so too will he join us, and work at the side of the Grand Master, and be blessed by the Father of Understanding. it is merely a pity you will not be there to see it."
A simple wave of his hand, that was all it took for the guards that flanked him to rush forward and grab the fool, who perhaps now was finally gaining an inkling of the gravity of the mistake he had committed not only in insulting Vieri, but in disparaging the Pazzi name in kind. He would soon find out exactly how cruel he could be.
Vieri's passion was as bright as a star and equally as eager, and he still needed to learn that fire burned, and that not even the family would be able to protect him someday, unless he was the family and he no longer needed protecting, because he would be the protector instead. Francesco did not look forward to the lessons it would take, and the pain his son and heir would endure in order to become what he needed, but he would truly rejoice watching his son realise his true power and grow into himself. He… likely wouldn't survive it, but then neither had his father before him, so that was likely inevitable.
For all that he acted frequently in ways that put the Templars and the greater good of the family before his children, he did still love them all dearly, and he would not tolerate such disrespect towards them. Or from them, but that was a different matter.

omg ive never met anyone who likes the medici show!!!!! pls share ur thoughts
you must be new here bc i Love the show! it’s one of my all time fave period dramas (coming from someone who knows nothing about the actual history of the family other than the one (1) page history that was given in her high school history textbook and sporadic wikipedia diving when watching the show— i just love period dramas) and i often quote this post by @hotniatheron when talking about this show (because that’s literally. the whole show)
the cinnamon topography, the sets, the characters the costumes, the d r a m a, the storyline! i love it all! i’ve written a few posts on the show as well that i’ll link here if you want some memes (and usually gifsets i rb are filled with commentary) but if you really care about why i love the show, i’ll try to give you as much of a summary as i can (w o w so this got long because i have a lot of feelings so i’ll leave this under the cut but tl;dr i adore this show and i think about it more than once a week and have tons of half-written meta posts sitting in my drafts fjwkjfewn)
i watched s1 when it first came out and immediately fell in love, watched the whole thing in one day (avoiding a paper i had due lmao) and completely fell for it. i loved the morally ambiguous leanings of everyone in that season— no one was quite Good™️ or Bad™️, they all did things with their own ambitions and their own ideas of what a good future may look like in mind— i loved all the scenic shots and the duomo (the true protagonist), i loved the characterization of “the banker that wanted to be an artist”, the attack and murder of albizzi and his son! in the forest! in slow motion! while the duomo is being consecrated! the mist of the forest combining with the smoke from the lamps! still gives me chills! i hated every moment cosimo wasn’t respecting his amazing wife who rode in oh horseback! in the signoria! just to save his ass! and he completely shunned her for it! i loved lucrezia’s depth they gave her towards the end that was later extended in s2 (where you could Tell contessina took her under her wing and gave her the single braincell of the family) and even more, i loved the multi layered storyline of the season— the coming of age story of cosimo, the murder mystery of who killed his father, the PLOT TWIST of who killed his father!!! (i kept forgetting in my first and second rewatches of the season and every time i forgot it felt like i experienced it for the first time all over again!) but most importantly, i loved the narrative of not knowing what to do in life, that every decision you made is a gamble with outcomes that are both good and bad, but there will be people around you who support you and get you through it
and then. s2. by far the better written of the two three seasons with a more clear plotline and timeline that allows you to really take in the characters and the plotline at once while allowing for more nuance and depth in a way that we didn’t get in s1! here we have the distinct battle between Good and Bad which was shocking after the morally grey complexity that we saw in s1 but made for a fresh new season that i instantly enjoyed! b u t!!! it did not go! where i thought it was going to go! as someone who knows nothing about the history, i went into it completely in the dark and solely began crafting possible endings in my head. i thought. i had pictured. that lorenzo and francesco started off enemies, francesco realizes his uncle jacopo (sean bean) has been manipulating him, switches to the “good” side, hears the acts of betrayal, and instead of falling back into his uncle’s plotting and manipulation, i thought! i assumed! that francesco was playing him! i thought! that francesco would see through the manipulation and the abuse and was in a double agent scenario where he was plotting the “pazzi conspiracy” but he told lorenzo and giuliano about the plot and they’d catch jacopo in the act, give him a trial, and give him a prison sentence! i thought this WHOLE thing! even at the end of ep7! even after the hugs (i thought the extra squeezes was francesco signaling to lorenzo and giuliano that everything was going according to plan (because remember the whole Good and Bad clear divide? i thought this was going to be the grey zone of s1 to remind us of moral ambiguities)) and even when ep 3 “mass” was going. i was sitting there in my clown paint waiting for francesco to get! his! redemption arc! because i forgot! that this! was a historical period drama about real events! and it wasn’t until lucrezia’s scream that i realized “OH. it’s not going to get better” you can imagine. my pain. but i think that’s what made this season so good? anyone could have watched it and fallen in love with the storyline and good narrative they presented that allowed you to get lost in the characters and the story
and as for s3. i’m withholding as much of my thoughts as possible because i will be watching it when it finally airs on netflix and i want to properly give it the binge watch that i’ve given the past seasons to really sit with my thoughts to have fully formed thoughts and onions on it!
in any case, i love this show. so much! i cannot wait for the renaissance project to happen with seasons about all the artists, but g o d am i going to miss this disaster family so! much! (and all those scenic duomo shots)
i love contessina and francesco (those are my two fave characters from the show) and there’s honestly so much more that i can say but honestly you can scroll through my series tags and see me cry about it because i’m rambling so much i know— if you give me a chance to tell you my thoughts on my obsessions! i’m so sorry in advance!
but i’m sure this is. not the length that you expected, but i hope it’s at least a bit entertaining! thanks for letting me talk about my obsessions for a bit!

Minette watches Medici, part 12 (Blood With Blood)
- I see the titles aren’t getting better... Then again, appropriate considering it’s an unofficial Twilight crossover. Yes, I know Volterra is a real city that just happened to be used by Stephenie Meyer as a seat of dark!Aziraphale and his possey. No, this does not ruin my unhinged headcannons in the slightest.
- The main plot of this episode was... A lot. For starters, rejoice, people, Lorenzo de’ Medici finally lost! Granted, it was because he is such a good boy who wouldn’t hurt a fly, but oh well. For real tho, Lorenzo’s actions having realistic (and tragic) consequences was pretty compelling. I completely understand Clarice’s need to give him a reassurance, however weak, and a hug. Hell, by the end of the episode, I wanted to give him a hug! Which is really saying something considering how little sympathy I felt for him before.
- On the other hand, the fact that Lorenzo is such a good boy who wouldn’t hurt a fly kinda makes his friendship with a violent thug like Francesco de’ Pazzi more confusing. Or vice versa, for that matter. Really, Francesco’s turn to the Medici side is justified not at all, and the stupid flashback whose only purpose seems to be to point at old Pazzi and go “look at this asshole, don’t you just hate him so much?” absolutely doesn’t help. Honestly if anything, it makes me hate the writers, not the old Pazzi. This douche really is what I was affraid Albizzi would end up being.
- On the OTHER other hand, however contrived the reasoning behind it was, I still liked to actually see them work together. Why, yes, Italian Ao3, they are pretty shippable. Man, can you believe this mess is the best subplot in this episode?!
- Francesco’s romance with Novella is nice in theory, but the little time alotted to it and Novella’s piss-poor acting kinda ruin in. Again, can you believe this mess is the best romantic subplot in this episode?! Well, that and me x Bianca’s wedding dress.
- Clarice/Lorenzo/Lucrezia D love triangle absolutely does not live up to its potential here, aside from Clarice’s Jolene moment, which I do appreciate, because I am fair like that. And maybe I am foolish, but I still want it to continue somehow, if for no other reason, then because I sincerely hope the writers do not expect us to believe Clarice’s limp comforting of Lorenzo was enough to turn him away from Lucrezia D.
- Giuliano officially earns the medal of the worst boy of this show, because what the fuck was that subplot?! Again, tsundere girl x presumptuous fuckboy is truly the inferior trope, and Giuliano truly is the worst of the fuckboys. Like, of course he had to undress in front of Simonetta for her to feel anything but disdain; like, there is just absolutely nothing good about this dude except his abs! Even then, he in turn doesn’t have Francesco’s cheekbones. Novella truly dodged a bullet here. Human mind cannot comprehend why would Simonetta feel literally anything when confronted with the possibility of Giuliano’s death, other than “huh, a waste of good abs”. Which could work as a motivation to fuck him after he comes from the battle, but I somehow doubt that’s what the writers had in mind.
- For what its worth, I appreciated the relatively realistic image of Early Modern warfare. Even the whole thing where the Florentine commander ordered an attack on a walled city because siege lasting a FEW DAYS would be too long for him could be explained by the dude being on Pazzi’s payroll or something.

Note
i’ve always loved francesco and guglielmo’s sibling relationship and i recently realized that maybe why their relationship was so endearing and they always seemed so close is because they lost their parents at such a young age. while the medici siblings obviously love each other, their relationship with each other isn’t the same as the pazzi brothers; francesco and guglielmo only every really had each other to fully rely on and trust unlike the medici kids (who all had both parents for basically their entire upbringing) and the thought of that made me 😭🥺
YES like francesco and guglielmo being orphaned and then going to live in an abusive environment, they never had the luxury of sibling rivalry or bickering like the medici kids do u know? they HAD to be there for each other at all times because otherwise no one would be, just like you say
and thinking of it like this, guglielmo and bianca’s elopement attempt surely would have hurt francesco (being abandoned in said abusive environment by the only person he thought he could count on) far more than it hurt lorenzo (having his political plans damaged) and yet in the aftermath, lorenzo’s flipping his lid at bianca while francesco tenderly bandages guglielmo’s hand and tells him he could never be mad at him. it hurts!!!!

troubled heart |Francesco Pazzi x Reader
Tumblr media
franceso pazzi x Medici reader when they love each other but then he kills Giuliano and she’s screaming at him because of it (honestly I’m still not over the Pazzi conspiracy)
———
The night air felt cool against your flushed skin, the city lights blinking one by one as the people retired to bed. Music could be heard distantly, a violin echoing through the twisting streets.
Warm hands wrapped around your forearms, lips meeting your neck. “What are you doing out in the cold, my love?”
“It’s beautiful,” you whisper, leaning against his chest. “The city at night, when it should be asleep but instead full of life.”
He says softly, hands moving to clasp your hands and hold them in a firm grip against your heart. “It is nothing compared to your beauty.”
You turn around in his arms, still cased in the warm embrace he held you in. “You are a charmer, Pazzi.”
“Only for you, Medici.”
The mention of your families, who you came from, dampened your high spirits. Francesco picked up on it, pressing a series of kisses over your face. His hand cups your cheek, squishing your nose against yours as he leans in for a tender kiss.
“I love you,” in between kisses he speaks, “more than anything.”
“Francesco-“
“Our families may have their differences, but time will pass and we shall have our time together.”
“How do you know?”
“Because,” he pulls away to look you straight in the eyes, “I love you.”
————
It was hard to remember that night, full of love and passion, when it seemed like a delusion now.
Giuliano was pale and unmoving in your arms as you wept for your brother, trying to make sense of the events that just transpired. He was still breathing, a horrible rasping that shook his chest with each exhale. The blue in his eyes were fading, but he looked at you - scared and pain flickering through. His mouth opened and closed as he tried to speak, but you shushed him.
“Please—Giuliano,” you cried, “don’t move. We’ll get you to a doctor. You’ll be okay. You’ll be okay...”
You whisper the words over and over, a desperate mantra as his life slipped away. He grabs your hand, the grip weak, before his eyes slip shut.
“No, no, no—“ you shake him slightly, “Giuliano!”
Footsteps echo behind you and whip around, hoping to see Lorenzo and plea with him to help you.
The look of remorse on Francesco’s face pulls at your heartstrings and it pains you that even after he murdered your brother that you still feel something for him.
“Go away.” The words are spit out, hoarse as you cling to Giuliano.
“Please,” He steps forward, moving to hold you but you back away relinquishig your hold on Giuliano as a result.
The look of pain on his face only serves to fuel the disgust that welled up inside you.
“Why!?” You stand up, closing the distance between you. “I loved you. I trusted you.”
His eyes fall shut as you start to hit his chest, cries falling from your lips. “I love you.”
The whispered words stop you cold. Feelings of warmth and love washing over you, remembering all the times those three words were said, but it means nothing now.
Finally paying heed to the screaming cries of your mother to go inside the Sacristy, you turn taking small steps in that direction. His hand reaches for you, but grabs thin air. Silent sobs rack your body as you run to the building, sparing a fleeting glance at the man you thought you knew everything about. Your mother grabbed onto you, asking about Giuliano and you can only shake your head numbly.
You cried, for Giuliano, the brother you lost and for Francesco, hating that despite everything...
...you still loved him.

Francesco De Gregori || Alice || Italian lyrics
Alice guarda i gatti e i gatti guardano nel sole Alice stares at the cats, and the cats stare at the sun Mentre il mondo sta girando senza fretta While the world is turning without haste Irene al quarto piano è lì tranquilla Irene, on the fourth floor, is calmly Che si guarda nello specchio Looking in the mirror E accende un'altra sigaretta And lighting one more cigarette E Lili Marleen, bella più che mai, And Lili Marleen, prettier than ever, Sorride e non ti dice la sua età Smiles, and won't tell you how old she is Ma tutto questo Alice non lo sa But Alice doesn't know any of this
"Ma io non ci sto più", gridò lo sposo e poi "I'm through with this", shouted the groom, and then Tutti pensarono, dietro ai cappelli, Everyone thought, hiding behind their hats, "Lo sposo è impazzito, oppure ha bevuto" "The groom has gone mad, or maybe he's drunk" Ma la sposa aspetta un figlio e lui lo sa But the bride is with child and he knows it Non è così che se ne andrà He won't leave like this
Alice guarda i gatti e i gatti muoiono nel sole Alice stares at the cats, and the cats are dying in the sun Mentre il sole a poco a poco si avvicina While the sun is slowly getting closer E Cesare perduto nella pioggia And Cesare, lost in the rain, Sta aspettando da sei ore Has been waiting for six hours Il suo amore ballerina For his love, a ballerina E rimane lì, a bagnarsi ancora un po' And he stands there, getting wet in the rain a little longer E il tram di mezzanotte se ne va And the midnight tram leaves Ma tutto questo Alice non lo sa But Alice doesn't know any of this
"Ma io non ci sto più, e i pazzi siete voi", "I'm through with this, and you're the crazy ones", Tutti pensarono, dietro ai cappelli, Everyone thought, hiding behind their hats, "Lo sposo è impazzito, oppure ha bevuto" "The groom has gone mad, or maybe he's drunk" Ma la sposa aspetta un figlio e lui lo sa But the bride is with child and he knows it Non è così che se ne andrà He won't leave like this
Alice guarda i gatti e i gatti girano nel sole Alice stares at the cats and the cats are spinning in the sun Mentre il sole fa l'amore con la luna While the sun is making love with the moon Il mendicante arabo ha qualcosa nel cappello, The Arabian beggar has got something in his hat, Ma è convinto che sia un portafortuna But he believes that it's a lucky charm Non ti chiede mai pane o carità He never asks you for bread or charity E un posto per dormire non ce l'ha And he hasn't got a place to sleep Ma tutto questo Alice non lo sa But Alice doesn't know any of this
"Ma io non ci sto più", gridò lo sposo e poi "I'm through with this", shouted the groom, and then Tutti pensarono, dietro ai cappelli, Everyone thought, hiding behind their hats, "Lo sposo è impazzito, oppure ha bevuto" "The groom has gone mad, or maybe he's drunk" Ma la sposa aspetta un figlio e lui lo sa But the bride is with child and he knows it Non è così che se ne andrà He won't leave like this
