The Werewolf Versus the Vampire Woman (1971)
A movie that promises one thing, a werewolf versus a vampire woman, and delivers on that thing, plus a little more. However, it does at times feel a bit like it was just a scenario devised to facilitate that thing, rather than a story being told for its own merits.
5/10

Happy Queer Media Monday!
Today: La Noche de Walpurgis (1971)
I kind of missed the actual Walpurgis Night by a week, but better late than never.
Tumblr media
(Countess Wandesa Dárvula de Nadasdy and Genevieve Bennett, after she has been turned into a vampire.)
La Noche de Walpurgis, also known as “The Werewolf vs The Vampire Woman” is a 1971 Spanish horror movie generally credited with starting the Spanish horror boom of the 1970s. It also falls into the category of lesbian vampire movies.
The story is about two young women, who, while on the search for the grave of a medieval countess, meet a handsome but mysterious man who invites them to stay over. They accidentally revive the countess, turning her into a vampire, and it also turns out that their host is in fact a werewolf. One of the young women is seduced and turned by the vampire, the other starts an ill-advised affair with the werewolf. The two sides finally clash in a fight on Walpurgis Night.
The movie is the fifth in a series about the werewolf Waldemar Daninsky, but can be perfectly well enjoyed without you knowing that.
Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. Please feel free to join in on the fun and make your own posts about things you personally find important!

FOUR YEARS SINCE NOV 5TH, 2020, as summed up by Supernatural
past recaps: year one / year two / year three / year four
full context and sources below:
various explanations + resources/sources/extra reading on this year's recap:
balls deep: misha collins says the quiet part out loud at Cross Roads 8 Supernatural Convention, saying "if the CW wasn't so homophobic dean and cas would've been balls deep for sure" at a con (x) (x) (x)
garthbenny canon: supernatural actors DJ Qualls (who played hunter-turned-werewolf Garth Fitzgerald) and Ty Olsson (who played the vampire Benny Lafitte) reveal they're married, delighting crack shippers like myself everywhere (x)
spn spooky picture book: official supernatural children's picture book is released, retconning things like john winchester as a happy father figure and castiel being their cowardly childhood friend who sorta hangs around (x) (x)
boop button: tumblr introduces a feature people enjoy for once for april fool's day and halloween and allows users to boop each other, spn bloggers re-awake like sleeper agents to use it in full force (x) (x)
bedlund speaks on destiel: former spn writer ben edlund goes on a tweet fest replying to fans, talking about destiel multiple times including this profound tweet (x)
clear text, not subtext: jensen speaks out again on the confession at Purcon 8, this time taking a more open stance on how the relationship was textual, his take on dean's feelings about cas's feelings, and how the scene with cas deserved a resolution (x)
bury your gays: famed author chuck tingle (known for his plethora of highly specific and delightfully inclusive, if strange, indie erotica novels) publishes his second mainstream horror novel, inspired by TV network studios' infamous history of censoring LGBT relationships and openly killing off queer characters. In a non-subtle nod to supernatural fans, the main character is named misha. (sidenote: did end up reading this and this book is actually really good commentary on the industry in general and really good, 10/10 recommend) (x) also someone got the book signed by misha, to further break the fourth wall (x)
tracker: jensen ackles begins starring in a CBS show where he is basically csoplaying dean winchester, with the show featuring many non-subtle spn references (i.e. him pretending to almost get in an impala before going to his truck, characters wearing spn necklaces, etc.) (x) (x) (x) (special shout-out to clarice @youre-only-gay-once for expertly tracking the tracker show and these easter eggs, highly recommend their tag for their show)
cw's walker cancelled: fans rejoiced upon hearing the cancellation news for jared's post-supernatural show, walker, a remake of "walker texas ranger." in addition to generally being a copaganda show for the notoriously racist texas rangers, jared's inspiration for the show's direction caused much concern. the actor himself said the show was inspired by the US border crisis, not by the immigrant families affected by the separation and internment, but instead wanting exploring the POV of the law enforcement agents working at the border and the moral dilemmas they had to face (x)
pro-destiel Wonder Woman: Lynda Carter (aka the iconic and beloved original actress for Wonder Woman, not the z*onist one) says she could "go for some Destiel" when promoting #GeeksandNerdsforHarrisWalz and Misha's involvement (x) the rest of the spn cast and original Showrunner Kripke were also a big part of this event
chili's backfire: the chain restaurant chili's drags destiel while interacting with 9-1-1 bucktommy shippers on twitter, immediately gets backfire. notably, their stock takes a dip the next day. coincidence? maybe so, maybe not (x) (x)
samgirl voting fraud: "who is the gayest spn character" tumblr poll surprisingly gets heated, with a blogger straight-up admitting they used a bot on the "castiel vs. sam" poll to rig the poll in sam's favor, which they apparently also did for w*ncest in another poll in the past, and posting a guide on how anyone could do the same. luckily democracy wins in this one instance and castiel prevails anyways, leading to an also contested "castiel vs. charlie bradbury" round (x) (x)
pink pony jarpad: jared is spotted at lesbian pop star chappell roan's set at a festival, un-likely place for him to be (x) also may have been one of the "boring" people called out by chappell? (x)
pro-kamala castiel: in a last-ditch effort to get out the vote, misha uses the power of castiel photo ops to campaign for harris-walz and even shouts-out destiel. I feel depressed writing this sentence, if you've made it this long in your read and you're in the states I hope you're doing alright! maybe by the time I wake up things will be a little different though. (x)

Any horror movie recs for the season?
Tumblr media
yessss i am so glad you asked >:3c
horror comedy
shaun of the dead (2004): romantic comedy with zombies tucker & dale vs. evil (2010): hillbillies mistaken for killers by some college kids the cabin in the woods (2011): pokes fun at horror tropes but also has some genuinely scary moments fright night (1985): cult classic vampire film, it's a comedy to me an american werewolf in london (1981): werewolf horror comedy cult classic housebound (2014): haunted house horror comedy with a twist the menu (2022): i thought it was funny ok
creature features
alien (1979) and aliens (1986): sigourney weaver being sexy for 4+ hours and also there's aliens jaws (1975): you know, the big fish, the musical fish crawl (2019): surprisingly fun movie with alligators tremors (1990): kevin bacon vs underground monsters the thing (1982): in which there is a Thing
feminist themes and/or woman-centric
the invisible man (2020): elisabeth moss is a woman who believes her abusive ex-husband is not really dead his house (2020): a refugee couple from south sudan deal with racism and a haunted house the haunting (1963): based on shirley jackson's the haunting of hill house (and i do recommend the mike flanagan miniseries as well) the descent (2005): all-female cast becomes trapped underground with monsters the night house (2020): another "horror as metaphor" where a woman deals with the aftermath of her husband's death last night in soho (2021): college fashion student realizes the sixties had a dark side pearl (2022): a movie about a totally normal woman the love witch (2016): horror comedy tribute to 1960s flicks saint maud (2019): titular character becomes obsessed with saving the soul of her patient a girl walks home alone at night (2014): persian-language black-and-white vampire movie the boy (2016): creepy doll movie with a twist gothika (2003): halle berry plays a woman accused of murdering her husband what lies beneath (2000): starring michelle pfeiffer as a woman uncovering her husband's dark secret
some movies that actually scared me (ymmv):
the autopsy of jane doe (2016): father-son coroner duo attempts to establish the cause of death of an unidentified woman insidious (2010): comatose child has summoned The Horrors sinister (2012): true-crime writer finds a box of homemade snuff films the conjuring (2013): rural family gets haunted and must seek the help of vera farmiga and patrick wilson aterrados (2017): argentinian supernatural horror film
it's hard for me to say what's scary because what scared me as a kid or as a teenager a decade or more ago may not be scary for adults or by today's standards, i will say that in recent years the ones on this list that had me the most tense were the invisible man (2020) and the night house (2020)

Really like the idea of a vampire couple being yandere for reader tbh. At first I thought feysand but I really think nessian would suit it better 🤔
Omgomgomgomg vampire anything and I am immediately captured and unhinged 🧡💛
I'm doing some work on Mercy, Devil part 3 where they all come to an agreement (because let's be real, reader getting to live in a luxurious castle with a big luxurious bed, and dine on big luxurious meals is a pretty good deal) and things kind of calm down a little and there's like a slight element of fluff and comfort mixed in with the macabre vibe?
There's also another vampire piece I'm working on that's more lore-angst leaning which I'm kind of curious if people will enjoy or not? I think cbmthy and The Other Woman are the only pieces I've written that are openly angsty so I don't really know if anyone who enjoys my writing will be into that? Since it's not my usual, or my forte?
As for vampire feysand vs. vampire nessian...? Ordinarily I think I'd pick Feysand as the vampiric couple and Nessian as like werewolf bf x witch gf, but Nesta would also make a wonderful vampire, plus the angle of slight obsession...? Maybe reader's been sold into a blood brothel and Cassian has a good nose for flavour and is drawn inside to seek reader out, then neither of them can manage to leave her alone so buy her out of the contract? I think that could be a wonderful concept 😳🤭

ML Monster AU
Random Suggestions! (I’m aware some people are locked in, but I’m throwing all I got out there! please note, I am also a huge fan of Halflings/Hybrids!)
Rose - Unicorn. Either the Faux/Pure thing I talked about before, or a Unicorn hybrid with, like. A kelpie or a kind of Grimm. So she’s still Pure, Healing, Light, but also Curses, Death, Darkness. Or some kind of Dryad/Banshee kid. Or Unicorn/Banshee … not sure why, but that one appeals.
Ivan - Minotaur feels obvious, but were-something could work? Bear, wolf, is there such thing as a werebull? Cyclops, maybe? Troll? What exactly would something like King Kong be classified as, is there a Magic Creature version of that, he can just turn into a giant ape? Bigfoot or Sasquatch? Yeti?
Nathaniel - Gorgon, full or partial? Only Medusa really had the “turn people to stone by looking at them”, so Nath doesn’t NEED that. The OG Gorgon Sisters all had different abilities, he could be any of those … go the OG Monster High Deuce route, have him be the kid of a Gorgon and a normal human?
Kagami - Dragon still feels acceptable, but so could a Yuki-Onna, actually. Yuki-Onna adopted by dragons, or vice versa? Though there is a Japanese legend about a serpent/dragon that turned into a woman to romance a guy, (think she’s called Kiyohime?) could that be a selkie variant? Dragon Selkie?
Sabrina - I think you said Grim reaper before, but what about Were-Wolf? This is a somewhat Recent Development, and she’s terrified to tell her dad, cause Roger HATES supernatural creatures.
Zoé - I remember Zoé being a Werewolf, so we could have the Werewolf vs Vampire thing with Chloé, but I’m kinda attached to her being a Mothman type thing? Oooh, Jersey Devil!
Adrien - is he still a Cait Sith? Or was it werecat?
Lila - if you don’t go with the Alien thing, or the “Normal Human”, what about a Changeling? Like, she was swapped at birth, but is scared of anyone finding out, cause what if they try to trade her back??
-
Loving Unicorn!Rose.
Ivan being anything Big works well.
Nath as a Gorgon has some potential, though I have rolled with the mythos re: stone gaze being an afab thing
Honestly a ‘Dragon Selkie’ is tempting as hell really doubling up on the creatures.
Someone suggested Succubus for Sabrina and honestly that’s tempting.
Zoé I’m keeping as our Werewolf but she def got bit while looking for Mothman.
Re: Adrien and Lila I’ve changed what Adrien is and it’s Changeling-connected. So like. Emilie and Amelie are part of the Changeling Deal. One was Fae, the other Human, they got swapped. But they also met up years down the line and decided ‘fuck it we’re sisters now’.Adrien and Felix are both Fae. All of them are from a Cat Court.
