"There's no need to push yourself." Shadow muttered to the goat mobian. Sure, he could sense there was power there. He wasn't stupid in that respect by any means. But power did not equate to Shadow's absurd levels of durability granted by his unique DNA.

Shadow lightly indicated the fact that Jericho's body was, well, despite his statement — shaking.

"You're shaking. Obviously, you got hit harder than you think. Sit." Shadow grumbled, already glad he had now taken up bringing a first aid kit with him via his own hammerspace and pulling it out to address the other's injuries.

jericho in arabic translates to "city of the moon"

the city / creatures who live their praise the moon / sleep (since he lives within the moon)

the city is mostly abandoned now

thousands of years ago, there were hundreds of people in the city of jericho, but sleep lost a lot of power and has been slowly regaining it through vessel and using him as a mouthpiece

its said the unknown creatures of sundowning actually lived here, they're represented within sundowning as the glyphs because that's basically all they left behind, like they wanted someone to tell their story

sleep intends to use the vessels listeners (sleep token fans) as new jericho citizens

sleep built the city for these people he recruited so they could worship him, but after his downfall, he's gotta start over

for context, time doesn't move the same way in eden that it does on earth or anything, it's an entirely different dimension

like it's taken thousands of earth years for sleep to get his hands on these four boys, create the tpwbyt / tmbte creatures, etc etc

the city is like a massive museum in itself, murals in alleyways, sacred writings, holy books, etcetera

APEIRON ;

apeiron is an ancient greek word for infinite, which I used like a synonym for immortal / infinite life

a large flower field of many flowers that wouldn't naturally live together but who gaf

it's usually always sunny and warm

the epitome of dopamine

this is what most people think of when they hear 'eden', when they listen to take me back to eden

and sleep knows that, that's why he's kept it there, with animals frolicking through and flowers year round

it's not a peaceful escape, it's more like an illusion so the vessels will still think of sleep highly and respect him

FIELDS OF ELATION ;

the fields of elation are a callback to the song of the same name on the one ep!

the area is always cloudy and slightly windy, no matter what; other areas can change with weather, but not the foe

it's empty, nothing and no one lives there

you can't hear noise, at all, over the wind, even if it's low, it's like a weird version of hell

it's no maze, it's just... defeaning

it's where the boys go to be alone, when they're questioning sleep

it's the only place they can go where he can't hear them

DEAD BEACH ;

the beach is like a typical english shore, rocks and pebbles instead of sand

it's not noisy like the fields of elation, even with the crashing waves, it's so quiet

the best spot to cloud watch

the boys often wonder if there's more to eden, if this island is all eden really is

ATLANTIC SEA ;

the atlantic sea is an obvious reference to Atlantic

is barely explored whatsoever

all the boys had awoken in the water when they first arrived in eden, nearly drowning before reaching the shore

harbors the animals of TPWBYT deep down within

sleep makes the boys fight the freaky fish sometimes

sleep gives them temporary water breathing to do so, but never anytime else, they're not allowed to specifically explore

the animals aren't always violent, the octopi are usually pretty nice to the boys

the other fish do get aggressive though

WEEPING MOUNTAINS ;

the weeping mountains are where the vesselettes / espera spend their time, they never leave unless for rituals with the boys

it's so cold it burns

the girls can turn to stone like weeping angels, which is why they cover their eyes during rituals, because they can at least not be seen / they're still doing this for sleep

they're the longest lasting souls in eden, but not much else is known ab them

weeping angels live amongst them so no one ventures in to avoid them

PINE FOREST ;

the pine forest is the only "unnamed" area because sleep refuses for it to have a name for some reason, it's only referred to as the "pine forest"

this is where sleep has the strongest connection to the boys & where they hold small rituals (logo is where small rituals take place)

(for context, small rituals are just in eden and soley for sleep or even themselves. the rituals that take place on earth are for recruitment / to spread sleep. all of the songs are offerings to sleep, callbacks to their pasts that sleep saved them from, some of them current pain they experience ; I talk more about sleep on the character list)

only on ritual nights can you spot the pentagram / wormhole to another dimension in the pine forest

the boys have never been through it (to their knowledge) but they crave exploration

they live in four separate little cabins in a square shape, kinda like a little camp

VALLEY OF GODS ;

four statues sit in the "corners"; vessel in the north, ii in the east, iv in the south and iii in the west; they're made of stone, covered in ivy and moss as the years pass on

they don't really know why those statues exist, and they clearly inhabited the area before they even arrived in eden, so it's an entire mystery in itself as to why sleep made them

animal skulls are hung on trees, kinda like screwed up christmas trees, but they aren't killed by man, don't worry; the vessels dont have to eat, they hang the skulls in respect

they don't actually know why sleep has them call it the valley of gods, because they're not gods, seems to be part of a bigger plan

it's basically a massive graveyard but it's very very empty, many mysteries and questions lie there

the boys themselves don't even know much about it, but they like to steer clear

NAZARETH ;

nazareth means "watch tower" and the creatures / city of nazareth act as extra spies to keep eye on the vessels / mouthpieces

they aren't bound to nazareth whatsoever, but it's most common to actually see them there instead of anywhere else because there's least amount of protection there

the creatures (tmbte art) also can't speak, which is why the vessels are the ones who sing and perform music as offerings and act as mouthpieces, esp vessel himself

it's a city of sand with luscious green plants, and it never rains

rumor has it, there's an underground area known as 'the room below', whatever that means

ARCADIA ;

arcadia is what eden becomes when they finally defeat sleep / weaken them

arcadia is like a restored version of whatever sleep had taken over, what it truly is deep within

the monsters still walk, which is a bit of a problem, but won't be for long

it's perfectly warm, growing reddish-pink blossoms and desaturated ferns, homing flamingos with black feathers

it also homes a new home for the boys, concrete structures almost like castles

they behold luxurious decor and fabulous architecture, and they're quite homey

this is more of an acceptance / post rebellion era, freeing arcadia from what it was trapped as (eden)

this'll definitely be explored more because it's kind of hard to explain especially since (as of writing this) we only have emergence to work off of and I don't wanna contradict myself yet, but this section will definitely be updated lol

So I think the thing that's so cool about putting Jericho and Paradox together is how different and yet similar they are.

Both of them are essentially puppets/vessels to dark forces but their upbringing is radically different.

On one hand, you have Jericho, born from a hateful moon god a thousand years ago who was raised to be nothing more than a glorified storage unit, abused and hurt by his creator, but not knowing any better, sees this as love and is eternally loyal to her. A thing made to cause mass destruction. Determined to destroy all life for "Mother"

Then on the other hand, you have Paradox, who was raised lovingly by the Antareon scientists as if they were their own child. Given praise and modifications and enrichment to ensure a stable mindset and high quality of life. And they were made with pieces of a vengeful sun god a thousand years in the future to protect an entire planet.

They failed and its haunted them ever since.

The concept of this entitled moon prince whose godly parent doesn't give a damn about them teaming up with a haunted half-god trying to kill their creator is just a fascinating concept to me.

Close To Shore

Deathwatch Campaign - but it’s Wrath and Glory #1

So it’s well past the time when I should sleep anyway but the upstairs neighbours decided to be loud, hence I decided to finally start making my own posts on this blog, for the whole 2 or something people following me. And what else could I post about than my 40k RPG campaign and my experience with Wrath and Glory?

For context: my player group and I have been playing 40k RPGs for nearly 4 years now. The main campaign was Black Crusade, and I occasionally GM’d a few sessions of Deathwatch when our main GM was too busy or when he needed a break. Recently - with Wrath and Glory coming out - I decided to make a soft reboot of the campaign, with the players forming a new killteam, years after the events pertaining to their first characters. 

HOWEVER, since the two campaigns are linked thematically and in their content, I will use the first few posts to summarise the events of the very first kill-team, dubbed Hyperion. Later, I will switch to the current campaign with the Wrath and Glory system, and make roughly weekly updates of the campaign once I have caught up to the current day.

Killteam Hyperion was made up of six members: Tactical Marine Jarl Tyr of the Space Wolves, Apothecary Hales of the Hammers of Dorn, Assault Marine Venaraptus of the Flesh Tearers, Librarian Seraphiel of the Exorcists, Devastator Kadai of the Salamanders, and finally Techmarine Gregorius of the Imperial Fists.

During the closing days of the M41 - before the return of the hallowed Primarch Guilliman - Killteam Hyperion’s first mission was to travel to a long abandoned Watch-Station to retrieve any Marines stationed and any valuable artefacts stored therein. The Station, which had been mostly used as a surveillance based in the Jericho Reach, was running the risk of being discovered by other Imperial forces as the Achilus Crusade made its way through the sector, and the Deathwatch did not want to jeopardise its contents

To reach their destination, the Kill-Team had to travel aboard the ship of Inquisitor Karl-Gustav, a known Puritan and critic of the Adeptus Astartes. After a rather unpleasant journey during which they were barely tolerated by both the Inquisitor and his crew, they landed on the ice-encased moon of a dead world.

There, they found the Deathwatch station, embedded in the glaciers. They also found that all Marines stationed there had died long ago defending it from encroaching Chaos warbands, except for a lonely dreadnought calling himself Brother Skold.

The battle-brothers relieved tired, old Skold from his duty and retrieved a single artefact from the Watch-station’s vaults: a single artefact, a giant soulstone containing numerous souls of dead Eldar, called the Last Memory of Yrnathos.

Having gotten what they came for, Killteam Hyperion returned to the Inquisitor’s ship. They had barely boarded it however, that the forces of Chaos boarded their vessel, drawn like moths to the flame by the now unchained psychic treasure they held.

In the long, drawn-out battle that ensued, the Imperial forces gained the assistance of a group of Aeldari, under the condition that the lost souls of their brethren be returned to them. Begrudgingly, the Marines accepted this offer and with the help of the Xenos, they were able to repel the Heretic assaulting them.

During the fight, some important things happened: the ship’s main armoury blew up. Inquisitor Karl-Gustav was saved numerous times by the Killteam. The Aeldari got their artefact back. And lastly, the Marines failed to slay a Heretek by the name of Merliok, who teleported away after betraying the warband’s leader.

The fighting done, the Astartes returned to Watch-Fortress Erioch, where they were chastised for having lost the artefact, but praised for saving the Inquisitor and brother Skold while still somewhat making the best out of a bad Situation.

As they finished their debrief, the Omega-Vault, held within the depths of the Watch-Fortress, began to open, and out of its depths, the Players retrieved a lead lever with a white knob, bearing a single Orkish rune on it...

So yeah, that was the very first mission of the first Deathwatch kill-team. Next up will be their mission to destroy a new menace in the Jericho Reach: An Ork construct of colossal size, dubbed “Da Planit Krakker”.

An Ixalan Tale

And also a little Jericho the windweaver stuff. 

A seagull’s caw was cut short by a snap of serpentine coatl fangs. Jericho snickered. The coatls were gentle around The Tempest Raptor. Perhaps the air currents that Jericho used to navigate the ship, made the coatls passive. Two of them followed the ship, eating the seabirds that were attracted by the occasional scraps that were dumped from the ship. Jericho stretched his wings and soared with them. Diving in and out of the current, they played a game with him. The blue finned one twirled around, snapping at the red finned coatl. They twirled around Jericho, neither taking a bite at him. He saw the Captain come onto the deck. Jericho ducked down and landed on the navigation deck.

The Captain was an odd one. He dressed in different armor than anyone Jericho had met before. But he had an odd way of being somewhat charismatic. And he didn’t care for vampires, which was a plus in Jericho’s eyes. Jericho became a pirate because the Legion of Dusk attacked, sacked, and left broken and barren his hometown. Jericho didn’t have anything left there, so he took to the sky. He liked feeling the warm sea air beneath his wings. He ended up doing odd jobs for people, mostly running messages due to his knowledge of the currents, until this new captain appeared in one of the taverns of High and Dry.

Many dismissed him, solely on account of his looks, but they were made to understand his strength. A tavern brawl ended very badly for the aggressors. Jericho offered his navigation services after that. He thought it better to be on as many powerful people’s good sides as possible. The crew was assembled, it was a diverse group to say the least. Jericho did not recognize any of them. The Captain was a human, but he was definitely not from Ixalan. One of the muscles was a larger man, if you could use the term man. He turned wolfish during the moon cycles. Despite his aggressive look, he was pretty tame however. The engineer was another human. He was eccentric to say the least.

The day Jericho met the engineer he accidently shocked himself and passed out. He recovered later that evening. The ship itself was a magnificent sight. The engineer worked hard to fix it up, or at least that’s what Jericho guessed. The rest of the crew seemed nonnative as well. He had trouble guessing their intentions, but work was work. And the Captain was fair. Jericho liked having a purpose. And perhaps this ship will take him to where he felt like he could fly higher than before.

“Everything alright, Captain?” Jericho asked, folding his feathers behind him.

“Do you see that ship, Jericho?” The Captain pointed towards the port side.

               There was a ship about five nautical miles away. Its eerily pale sails identified it as a Legion ship. Jericho scowled. The Tempest Raptor was slightly smaller than the other vessel. It would be significantly faster, but the Captain added more cannons. It was still faster, but the way the winds were blowing would make it more difficult to evade, should they choose to flee the Legion.

               Jericho knew better than to entertain that idea. The odds did not matter to the Captain, much anyway. The wolfish brute could handle most of the legionnaires. The engineer was able to man the cannons, he had odd machinations to aid him. They were like living things, but they didn’t eat. Jericho avoided them. Jericho or the Captain would have to rouse the engineer from his tinkering however. He was working on some sort of spark cannon. Jericho did not really understand it. He figured it was somewhat like what the Sun Empire Solar Priests channeled. They channeled the fire of the sun, and the engineer harnessed lightning.

               Jericho remained still, awaiting the inevitable order to move towards the Legion galleon. The Captain paused not in hesitation, but in planning. The plan took seconds to come to fruition. His plans were hasty at times. But his confidence could carry battles.

“Jericho steer the ship towards the Legion. Seamus get ready, we may need you for the boarding party. I am going to get someone on our cannons.” The Captain ordered.

               Jericho silently accepted the orders, grabbing the wheel. The Captain favored the broadside. He maneuvered the Tempest Raptor towards the appropriate position. The Legion was not backing down. Jericho wondered what was going through their heads. They would not expect the lightning wielding Captain, or the wild fury of the wolfman. And as always Jericho would hamper their evasion. Once in position he had permission to fly up and use his magic.

               He would shift the winds. If the Legion’s helmsman tried to steer away from the cannon barrage, then Jericho would guide the winds to hinder their course. Jericho was not much of a fighter, but this he could do. His swordplay was mediocre, and his aim was awful. He was not hired for his muscle. His tricks and nautical knowledge was sufficient.

               Once in range the cannons from either ship pounded the air with noise. The engineer also had his little contraptions flittering about diligently to repair hull damage. The Captain signaled Seamus. The wolfman bounded from the navigation deck, pouncing upon a legionnaire who was a little too close to the edge. It couldn’t even scream. The Captain covered the wolfman, being careful not to shoot his large furry friend. He yelled to remind him later that we would need more crossbows next time.

               The galleon began to sink. Its hull was peppered with holes. Jericho swooped to the collapsing deck. The wolfman would not have the height advantage to leap up. This was not the first time he had to lift the larger man. And each time he would be sore later. Jericho gently ordered the winds to help him back to the deck of the Tempest Raptor. Flying himself over was a simple task, flying a wolfman with him was another story.

“We successfully downed their ship.” Jericho panted.

“We didn’t get much out of it though.” The engineer said.

“Hmm, we are going to need to either recruit a merfolk, or you are going to have to make something that can get us down there.” The Captain said to the engineer. “Sinking ships is fun and all, but if we don’t get anything off of it, its wasting our supplies.”

“Continue as planned?” Jericho asked. 

“Stay the course.” The Captain replied.
