I like to think that everyone in team Natsu thinks that they + Lucy are the only normal ones on the team. Erza thinks Natsu’s too wild, Gray has got something wrong with him bc why else would he strip on habit, Happy and Carla: talking cats. Wendy is a freak of nature kid who’s too strong and too nice for her own good. But like. She thinks she’s naturally normal. Chill.

While if you ask ANYONE else on the team (except Natsu bc he thinks Happy is perfectly normal as well, so his normal-count is 3, ofc including himself and Lucy) they’ll say “Yeah no my team is kinda wild, I get what you mean. Not sure what they’d do without me and Lucy to calm things down.”

Meanwhile Lucy’s just like “I love everyone, but they’re all a bit too strong for everyone’s good. I could do without some of their quirks though. We don’t really need Gray to strip. Or Natsu to eat everything in sight. Or Erza to knock everyone out as soon as she gets the chance. Wendy is pretty calm! Until she goes dragon force on you… maybe the cats are the most normal…”

when Team Natsu splits up whichever way and Gray and Wendy wind up partnered? that's just the group mom team. good way for everyone else to wind up in Situations. with no one to even run towards them all worried and bark, "Are you alright?!?!" at them afterwards or heal them or yell at them for being stupid or fuss over them. sad!

Imo, the argument of "which Sannin is the strongest" misses the point of the characters and their three way deadlock

The Sannin are of course references to the characters from the Japanese folklore story, The Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya. However, they also reference the game of mushi-ken, which is basically an old variant of Rock, Paper, Scissors. In the game, Slug beats Snake, Snake beats Toad, and Toad beats Slug.

This is reflected in their interactions in canon.

Slug beats Snake

This one's easy - Tsunade famously beat up Orochimaru that one time.

Now, some people argue that Jiraiya is more powerful than Orochimaru and would easily win if they were to fight. Most often I see people cite that Itachi easily trapped Oro in a genjutsu, but hesitated to face Jiraiya.

But power scaling is more complicated than that - if we're going to compare them fighting against other people then here's a different example:

Jiraiya nearly died trying to calm Four-Tails Naruto, while Orochimaru fought him directly and got away basically fine. And when we did see the two fight, Orochimaru easily penetrated Jiraiya's defenses.

Sure Jiraiya had been drugged not long before, but Orochimaru was arguably worse off, being tired, sickly, and not having use of her arms or chakra abilities. Orochimaru even points this out:

So while Jiraiya might be able to beat Itachi (we don't actually see it happen though so it's really just conjecture) that doesn't mean he can win against Orochimaru. After all, he's been following the snake for years but never fought/defeated them in all that time.

Toad beats Slug

Now this one could be a little controversial, but hear me out:

In terms of brute strength, Tsunade trumps both of her teammates easily; there's no question of that.

But strength isn't everything in a battle. And I think this moment says a lot:

Jiraiya states that he will kill Tsunade if she chooses to betray Konoha, and neither of them question that he has the ability to do so. So while she might regularly beat his ass when he's doing dumb shit, the implication here is that if they were to fight seriously and he genuinely wanted to hurt her, he could. Maybe not with strength alone but with technique and determination he could ultimately take her down.

Deadlock

And there you have the crux of their team - one might be able to defeat another, but no individual can beat both opponents. This is why the deadlock exists. They keep each other in check.

And this is also why they were always more powerful as a team...

The thing about ztd is that each teams are doing different genre. Q team is doing straight horror. D team? Shitty(/pos) low budget sci fi movie. C team is soap opera characters stuck in a horror movie.

Whenever someone tries to make a point about something the Konoha kunoichis, I need to make a pause and remind them how out of character they were in some of those moments.

Kishimoto pretty much abandoned Sakura and Ino's friendship and then tried to bring it back during the War arc. Ino lost her sensei and then her dad, and when was Sakura? You mean to tell me she wouldn't care? About any of it? Or when Sasuke was declared to be killed, do you mean to tell me that Ino wouldn't have run to find Sakura?

The way Hinata was written on Shippuden???? Naruto aside, people forget that Hinata refused to give up during the Chunning Exams and forced Neji to almost kill her if he wanted the victory. She was stubborn, she was prideful too, she had more going on than simply a crush on Naruto. She was told by her father she was a failure and yet she didn't give up on becoming a kunoichi, did she?

Then why is that Shippuden wrote her like her sole ambition was Naruto, hm?

And Tenten? She was MEAN when she wanted to be because she was highly competitive. We know that she wanted to train under Tsunade, so where did the death of that dream take her? She's such a powerful kunoichi and yet we know so little about her personality, her life...

We got "Ino and Hinata know some medic min techniques" in the most random way possible... We know Sakura would walk around with Hinata even, so what about their girl bonding moments during the genin to Shippuden years?

It made me so angry whenever the girls treated each other like strangers in Shippuden. So many stupid situations made to highly their teammates even if I meant to write the girls out of character...

like, I actually appreciate that his skin colour isn’t the exact same as the others in the team. ofc there’s nowhere near enough diversity but I gotta look at things from the bright side sometimes
