Act One Finale of Urinetown (I was the female lead my freshman year of college and I remember almost none of it)
Intro the Royal Doulton Music Hall from Mary Poppins 2 (this movie is unreasonably amazing especially for the blatant cash grab that it was)
Last of the Big Time Spenders by Billy Joel (“If I just get the landlord paid”!!! I’ve been mishearing that this whole fucking time!?)
Some Kind of Brown Noise (I have a whole playlist. It has been a God send for sleeping during the day because my room is right off the kitchen and I have to leave my door open for the cats)
4.5- Second Attack/The Final Battle-from the Les Mis 10th Anniversary Cast (every time I hear this part of the musical I just think of Lin Manuel Miranda voice acting as the French soldier during that one matinee performance because he's a theatre nerd and he could. Same dude. Same.)
Midnight City Skies by Tide Lines - album Eye of the Storm (criminally underrated band. I was going to go see them in September but tickets old out 😭)
The Nutcracker Scene 1 by Tchaikovsky performed by the Royal Philharmonic (he’s my favorite classical composer. This is the song that opens the ballet for any of you who’ve seen it or participated)
See Her Smile from Tick…Tick…Boom (original cast though I could never thank LMM and the cat and crew enough for the film. And Jonathan Larson)
Hey Little Songbird from Hadestown (funny b/c I downloaded the album to listen to on my drive between North Eastern KY and Boston…but I wasn’t in the right mood…so this is my first time hearing this…it’s creepy but good. Very Tom Waits.)
Píob Mhòr pt. 2 Tide Lines-album Dreams We Never Lost Tonight (an old folk tune played on bagpipes. Makes me miss Morris and Contra Dancing.)
Oyster Bay (Demo) by Billy Joel from the album My Lives (I love this song, what more can I say?)
@raptoradapter and @queermarzipan, @dashoulinas-fandom-dump
and @hello-ello-ello also @whovianhalfblood. (no pressure, y'all were just folks I thought of!)
Shuffle your on repeat playlist and list the first 10 songs that play, then tag 10 people.
Thank you for the tag @redwidow616! 💚
ocean eyes by Billie Eilish.
Radio by Lana Del Rey.
Bloody Mary by Lady Gaga.
Nevermind by Dennis Lloyd (no clue what this is doing in this list, I've listened to it like two times)
Video Games by Lana Del Rey.
Good Looking by Suki Waterhouse.
Malibu by Miley Cyrus.
Mary On A Cross by Ghost.
Say Yes To Heaven by Lana Del Rey.
Is It Over Now? by Taylor Swift.
No pressure tagging @aintinacage, @accidental-spice, @child-of-the-tardis256, @maybeimart, @eowima, @brekker-by-brekkerr, @samanthaswishes, @daisyssousa, @daily-dose-of-dousy and @daisy-mooon!

Songs in Mary Poppins Returns ranked*
*By me, based on my own personal opinions and nothing else. You are, of course, free to disagree with me and/or make your own list, but don’t come into my inbox and bitch about where I put any of the songs.
11) Underneath The Lovely London Sky (reprise)
There’s not much to this one, just a simple repeat of the final lines of the original song to close out the movie. Still a charming, semi-catchy tune, but little else.
10) The Royal Doulton Music Hall & Turning Turtle (tie)
The Royal Doulton Music Hall has some fun word play and some fast paced lyrics that still manage to roll off the tongue, while the swing music based tune for Turning Turtle is a definite toe-tapper, but there’s not much else to make them stand out among the rest of the numbers for me.
9) Trip A Little Light Fantastic (reprise)
Dick van Dyke shines in this one, providing a light-hearted (and light-footed) performance that shows that he’s not quite as out as you think he is. A fun number to lift the spirits of the film after the dramatic race to Big Ben and the bank, it serves its job well.
8) Underneath The Lovely London Sky
The movie’s opening number introduces us to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s character Jack (and his cockney accent) and starts the movie with a dose of optimism to offset the gloom facing London in the midst of the Great Slump. It’s a simple tune and easily hummable, inviting you along for the adventure ahead.
7) Nowhere To Go But Up
From the opening song to the film’s finale, everyone gets a chance to contribute to the song, with Angela Lansbury kicking things off to show she’s still got it, followed by Ben Whishaw, the children, Miranda and even Emily Mortimer (who I wish had gotten a song of her own at some point in the movie, though I understand it’s not her story). A positive song to end an incredible movie. What more could you ask for?
6) The Place Where Lost Things Go (reprise)
This one falls completely on the young actors playing the Banks children, giving each a chance to show their individual talents as singers. Young Joel Dawson (Georgie) does most of the solo singing in his first film role, but Pixie Davies (Anabel) and Nathanarl Saleh (John) sound good in their own right, and when the three of them harmonize, it’s truly magical.
5) A Cover Is Not The Book
A fun romp through the literary world, this song takes the adage ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’ and makes a vaudeville routine out of it. Between Emily Blunt slipping into a cockney accent for the mildly raunchy lyrics and Miranda getting to showcase his abilities as a rapper (without making it seem out of place), its probably the second-easiest song from the film to get stuck in your head.
4) Trip A Little Light Fantastic
The sequel’s answer to ‘Step In Time’ the song follows Jack and his fellow leeries as they help guide Mary and the Banks children home after getting lost in the fog. Upbeat and full of fun lyrics and fun rhymes, this one is a standout among the wonderful tunes, with Miranda taking the lead as he tries to shine a light through the film’s darkest moments
3) A Conversation
A simple tune that absolutely tugs at the heartstrings. Whishaw speak-sings his way through this number, a one-sided conversation between Michael and late wife Kate, whose absence hangs like a shadow over the house. Asking questions about everything from how to brush Anabel’s hair to where Kate has gone since leaving, Whishaw delivers the right balance of simple humor and the feeling of deep loss to make the number’s emotional weight seem very real in a simple music box-inspired tune.
2) The Place Where Lost Things Go
In many ways a companion to ‘A Conversation,’ this song also delivers the emotions, but seeks to provide answers to the question posed by Michael at the end of the latter, having Mary tell the children that their mother is ‘gone but not forgotten’ in the place where lost things go...or perhaps even inside of them. A hopeful song in the face of loss, it offers comfort, hope, and reassurance that those we love never truly leave us as long as we remember them.
1) Can You Imagine That?
Blunt’s first number in the film, this song allows her to show off Mary’s cheekiness, underhandedly berating the children’s lack of imagination while asking them if they can imagine people having fun and enjoying themselves. It serves as the children’s -- and, by extension, our -- first encounter with Mary and the wonderful things she can do, as well as her attitude and approach to nannying the children. And besides all that, it’s catchy as hell.

Mary Poppins Retuns Song’s correspondences with Mary Poppins Song’s (Spoiler alert): 1. Underneath the lovely London Sky ---> A comical poem/ Chim Chim Cheree. Opens the movie. Sung by Mary’s sidekick (Bert and Jack) and announces her arrival. 2. A conversation ---> The life I lead. Sung by the Bank’s father before Mary’s arrival. 3. Can you imagine that? ---> A spoonful of sugar. Appears while Mary tries to convince the children to do the chores by transforming it in something funny. 4. The Royal Doulton Music Hall ---> Jolly Holiday. Sung by Mary and her sidekick (Jack or Bert) in the 2D magic world in period clothes. 5. A cover is not a book ---> Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Sung by Mary and her sidekick in the 2D world and asked by its audience. Both tell some stories with the same message (chorus) and both includes invented words as supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Tarulalee, tarurala. Fast songs and with the intervetion of 2D animals. 6. The place where the lost things go ---> between Stay awake and Feed the birds. Lullaby sung by Mary after an adventure with the kids. 7. Turning turtle ---> I love to laugh. Sung by an extravagant Mary’s friend (Topsy or uncle Albert) that is in an extraordinary and impossible situation+ the children and Mary and her companion. 8. Trip a little light fantastic ---> Step in Time. Sung by a group of workers, coworkers of Mary’s companion (Bert or Jack) in the night after being in troubles in the bank. The optimistic song includes an acrobatic act of dance along with Mary and the children that finishes going to 17 Cherry Tree Lane. 9. Nowhere to go but up ---> Let’s go fly a kite. Sung by almost the whole cast at the end of the film celebrating the life at the park in front of the Bank’s house. Implies the sky and flying. Mary leaves sadly the family and the Bank’s father (George or Michael) remember how to be a child.

Yes in this
Marvelous, mystical, rather sophistical Royal Doulton bowl
There's a lot of birds queuing up, a lot of hams chewing up
Scenery they swallow whole
There are lots of cats tuning strings
Nightingales in the wings
Waiting for their big drum roll
At the simply sensational
Standing ovational

so Mary Poppins Returns is the only thing on my mind and I had an idea
if you've seen the movie, name a character that is NOT from the movie + a character that IS from the movie + your favorite song from the movie, and I will do my damn best to draw your non Mary Poppins character as a Mary Poppins character singing your chosen song.
and if you haven't seen the movie, you can name a character that isn't from the movie + your favorite song and I'll do my best to draw it
just an idea.

So I finally watched Mary Poppins Returns and it was EXCELLENT but I uh. Discovered just how gay I am for Emily Blunt. Specifically:
When she did the growly thing while she was singing in The Royal Doulton Music Hall
The whole of A Cover Is Not The Book. Her hair, her accent, her general demeanour... just. Peak
When she wore a top hat
"Hopelessly"

no one asked but......headcanon:
mary poppins is a regular at the royal doulton music hall because somehow she found out she is a musical character now but is jealous of all the other fabulous roles women have in other musicals so every once in a while she arrives unannounced at the theater and demands a spot in the show and she’ll end up performing “cell block tango” as a solo act with clones of herself with jack and bert in the audience watching her doing splits like 👁 👄 👁
