Muppet Fact #974
In order to solidify the idea that the Muppets could be adult entertainment, rather than having puppetry being pigeonholed as an entertainment medium for children, the advertisements sent to friends and press outlets for The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence matched the attitude of the title. An illustrated ad primarily featuring Dr. Teeth and Janice exclaimed, "Jim Henson and The Infamous Dr. Teeth invite you to join George Washington, The San Francisco Earthquake, The Seven Deadly Sins and a host of others for an evening of nonsense on The Muppet Show, Wed. March 19, ABC TV." A TV Guide ad also stated the show would be entertaining to adults and children, highlighting the importance of the adult audience for the puppetry medium.

Wait hang on the ONLY way to remake DS9 is to do a Muppet remake.
The cast is already muppetey but the ability to do cut away gags is what sells it to me.
Benjamin Sisko would be a real human

Being an animation fan with the whole "cartoons are just for kids" mindset being popular sucks but it's even worse for puppetry fans.
With animation you still got cartoons aimed more towards adults but with puppetry not so much.
Adult puppetry mainly exists in a "lol I can't believe something kid freindly like puppets is doing something not kid freindly"
Jim Henson pulling an Oppenheimer didn't like how the success of his own series Sesame Street contributed to this idea. He tried to combat this idea with the original title of The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence.
I'm not joking. Don't believe me Google it.
Jim my boy,I don't know either you were or weren't cooking with this

In the 1970s, The Muppet Show had a melancholic character named Droop, who was recicled from one of the frackles of 1970's The Real Santa Claus and first introduced in 1974's The Muppets Valentine Special as a boyfriend of Miss Mousey.

Meanwhile they had the muppet called Nigel, who was introduced in 1975's Sex and Violence as a possible host of The Muppet Show before receiving the role of Orchestra Conductor.

Then in Muppets Tonight, we were introduced to another character named Nigel, this time a director character who was a more ansious, lightened fur version of Droop.

Muppet Fact #776
Floyd's "lenticular eyes" were used in only one shot of The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence in the number "Love Ya to Death." The original design notes by Michael Firth said that these "lenticular eyes" were only to be seen at "dramatic moments when he suddenly looks full into [the] camera."

Jim Henson himself didn't consider his characters as "child" characters, they were more like actors that starred in children's shows
please stop drawing ernie and bert kissing and shit they’re literally preschoolers. it’s creepy and weird.
Buddy I don’t know how to tell you this but:
1. Preschoolers don’t own apartments by themselves
2. Bert has a TWIN BROTHER with a CHILD

3. Take it up with the official German version of the show. They’ve done it way more than I ever have.

Muppet fact of the day: One of the Muppet show's pilot episodes was called "The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence", but the Muppets are owned by Disney now and Disney really doesn't like the word "sex" so they insist on just calling it "the Muppet Show Pilot"

anyway reblog this forbidden image of Jim Henson in front of the Sex and Violence title card to make Disney mad
