reading: absolutely loving how to hide an empire: a history of the greater united states. also been reading natalie diaz (when my brother was an aztec), louise glück (averno), anne carson (eros the bittersweet, also revisiting glass irony & god). monsters: a fan’s dilemma is a++, first book in a while that’s lived up to expectations. all down darkness wide, warlight, and say nothing are some other standouts from this year! on the lighter side, recently read howl’s moving castle trilogy; happy place; the enigma of room 622 (a meta mystery that was SO FUN), daisy jones & the six (TSHOEH was better imo).

I should also add that they also protected Robert Nairac, who was involved in the Miami Showband massacre. The plan there was to blow up Ireland's most popular showband and make it look like they were smuggling explosives to the IRA, ending a ceasefire and giving the British government a really good reason to lock down the border to Northern Ireland. The bomb exploded prematurely, killing two members of the UVF. The remaining terrorists then opened fire on the rest of the band as they fled, seriously wounding bassist Stephen Travers, and killing singer Fran O'Toole (who was shot 8 times in the face), guitarist Tony Geraghty, and trumpeter Brian McCoy. Like in the Bloody Sunday murders, the British government hauled ass to protect the soldiers and informants involved. One even was set to receive a fucking posthumous medal last I knew.

The British government needs to be held to task for every Irish civilian that they murdered during the troubles, either directly or indirectly. Fuck these bullshit attempts to cover their asses when we all know the monarchy isn't worth a fucking shit anyway.

𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟒. The Sunday Post mentioned that Lena was in Austria.

𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟓. The Belfast Newsletter mentioned that Lena had cancelled her appearance in Northern Ireland following the killing of three members of The Miami Showband in July by the Ulster Defence Force.

𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟎. Lena started her week long show at the Glasgow Pavilion, called An Evening with Lena Zavaroni.

𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟏. Lena appeared at the Variety Club, in Manchester with Alden J. Harvey, Sweet Substitute, Vince Earle. Radio 2 10.00pm - 11.05 pm. Resident music man Chester Harriott and your host Martin Dale Musical director BRIAN FITZGERALD Producer MIKE CRAIG Repeated on Tues 11th May 1982, Radio 2 at 10pm.

𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟑. The Daily Mirror printed readers letters sent in following their series of articles about Lena.

𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟒. Leslie Crowther mentioned Lena in his autobiography.

𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟗. the inquest into Lena’s death was opened and adjourned, lots of newspapers carried the news.

𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟓. Sidney Devine mentioned Lena in his autobiography. He mentioned how Dorothy Dolomon bossed Lena around and dictated what she could and could not eat.

𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟔. Photographer Doreen Spooner mentioned Lena in her book Camera Girl.

𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐. In her book "Between Starshine and Clay", by Sarah Ladipo Manyika. It was mentioned that black people had to sit at the back of the theatre in a separate section of their own, this suggests separation rather than segregation.

Sunday 6th October 2024. Lena Zavaroni: The forgotten child star was broadcast on STV and repeated the following Saturday.

Fran O’Toole era el cantante de Miami Showband en 1974. Tenía 28 años y con su esposa, Valerie, eran padres de dos hijas pequeñas. Rachel tenía tres años, Kelly dos. Era el suceso local de una banda que se había iniciado en 1962 y había atravesado decenas de formaciones diferentes hasta lograr estabilizarse con su presencia y la participación del guitarrista Tony Geraghty, el trompetista Brian McCoy, el saxofonista Des Lee y el bajista Stephen Travers. Technically my middle name is derived from my great-grandfather (Alexander -> Alexis)

2. when was the last time you cried?

Couldn't give you a day, but it was sometime last week. I don't remember why.

3. do you have kids?

No. Debating whether I want to have kids at all (because I want to be a mother, but realistically, I wouldn't be the best due to a lot of personal hangups that I would have to deal with before I even consider becoming pregnant)

4. do you use sarcasm a lot?

Oh yeah. Which is weird because I have a very hard time picking up on when other people do it (oh autism how I love thee)

Hair

Brown

7. scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings, but I do love a good scary movie every now and then

I can roll my tongue, if that counts

Pacific Northwest

10. what are your hobbies?

Drawing, reading, writing, knitting, gaming, and I hope to get into designing and making my own clothes/stuffed animals someday

11. have you any pets?

Not me, but my grandmother has a shih tzu, and my parents have two dogs, three cats, and three bunnies

I played basketball in seventh grade. We didn't win any games though

English, history, and art

15. dream job?

I hope to direct my own films someday. Some of my ideas include films about The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Miami Showband, The Monkees, Nirvana, and too many other bands I listen to.
