Rules:

Vine is capable of near perfect foresight, and thus can see the past, present and future of whomever she wishes with the exception of anomalies. However, I will not have Vine predict the future without consulting my RP partner about it first, or without establishing them as a said anomaly. If we can’t agree on what can be disclosed to Vine, or if you disagree with my decision to make or not make them an anomaly, please accept my decision if I choose not to continue the RP with you

Vine has extremely narcissistic habits, and is also a very privileged person. Her viewpoints are not going to always be my own, and she is bound to step on toes. I will always try to keep my partners informed of what she’s going to do in the RP, but if Vine does or says something that offends you personally, SPEAK UP. If Vine acting like an entitled queen is going to be offensive to you, we need to stop so we can avoid hurt feelings. This also goes for any element of plotting that you’re uncomfortable with. It’s much easier to do a full stop than to carry on with draa.

Vine is not interested in marriage or children. She can be reciprocative of flirting, but as someone who is demisexual and demiromantic, it takes her a long time to establish love and trust for someone. And this love is not necessarily healthy. If you want to do shipping, or plot romances, be aware Vine will not always act in your muses’ best interests.

I am open to RPing with minors. However I will not RP anything with graphic violence, sex, or other mature themes with you. If I find you’re lying about your age to RP these themes, it will be a full block, and I will delete all threads. This is the only warning you get.

I am open to all OCs and canon characters. If you want to drop little asks, my inbox is always open. However I typically will ask permission to the mun before dropping asks. If I haven’t asked yet, feel free to ping me and give me permission or ask me to. Communication is key!

Please be polite and understanding. All of what we’re doing on here is meant to be for fun, not to be taken seriously. I will respect your opinions and views so long as you respect mine. If I feel any communication is becoming unhealthy or nonexistent, don’t expect me to continue doing RPs with you.

Queen Vine is based on the demon King Vine of the Lesser Key of Solomon. Obviously this is not a canon version of that character, but only an inspiration. Still, as such, Queen Vine does have dominion over her own territory, and as such tends to do what she likes. If you actively want to RP her being a bully, be prepared!

I am perfectly accepting of other people's headcanons and bios, even if they contradict my own. For example, if you play Lucifer but do not have the same backstory as described here, that's fine! Its your character, they don't need to match up 100%

In the beginning there were the orders of angels who were set to safeguard humanity and care for God’s wonderful creations on Earth. Among them were the Ophanim, or the Thrones, who worked under the Seraphim to establish to pillars of wisdom that would insure Heaven stood supreme. The Ophanim were mostly paired siblings, including two particular Ophanim, Paimon and Vine.

The role of Paimon and Vine were as herald and scribe respectively. Paimon would be responsible for announcing the edict of the Heavens, and spoke with a powerful, captivating voice. And Vine would be the writer of histories and proclamations, documenting the past, present and future. The two siblings were proud of their public roles, and served, more or less, as the Voices of God.

However, when the Morningstar came to power, things changed.

Lucifer Morningstar was a Seraphim. Beautiful, brilliant, charming and well-liked by the Ophanim, he had become somewhat of a stand-out due to his extravagant ideas for how the Earth should operate, in particular caring for the future of humanity. But he was often put down by his fellow Seraphim and the elder council of angels, who found his ideas too outlandish and believing they should obey the order of God instead. The siblings Paimon and Vine however, found Lucifer’s ideas captivating, and believed that a strong leader should be capable of thinking big. And with God so elusive and difficult to commune with, soon the siblings found themselves siding more and more with Lucifer.

And then it happened.

Lilith, the wife of Adam, found she could not bear to submit to his will and be treated as a lesser being. Though the two had been created as equals, Adam had been increasingly more demanding, and thus the two broke away, Lilith choosing to live away from the enclosed garden. Lucifer understood her desire for autonomy, and admired her. The two met, and fell in love. Heaven had been swift to give Adam another wife, a more humble and gentle Eve, but Lucifer and Lilith felt that the mother of humanity deserved to be able to give the same gift Lilith had been born with. The power to choose for oneself.

And thus, the event that would shape history forever happened. Slipping into the garden, Lucifer offered Eve the Apple. It would allow her to be able to distinguish good from evil, give her wisdom and knowledge, and grant her the free will to decide of her own volition. Eve in her innocence, accepted.

But once it was made clear that the Mother of Humanity had done so, Heaven was enraged.

Eve had been tainted by the Apple. And what was worse, was that she already carried the future generation of humanity in her belly. Worse still, Adam learned of what she had done, and chose to taste the Apple himself, not wishing his wife to suffer alone. With humanity’s future now uncertain, the Seraphim swiftly punished Lucifer and Lilith and cast them down into Hell….a dark, foreboding place no angel dared tread.

The greatest of dangers was yet to come.

For Lucifer had left many friends behind in the Ophanim, who were horrified and outraged at the Elders act of cruelty against their beloved Seraphim. Paimon in particular was crushed, as he had deeply admired Lucifer and his bold take on things. Not willing to let this go without consequence, Paimon spoke to the other Ophanim, all seventy-two of them, and convinced them that they should stand in support of their friend. Not only them, but six other Seraphim who had been close to Lucifer as well, and viewed him as a brother, agreed that Lucifer had been unjustly punished….especially after seeing that humanity had been cast out of the Garden of Eden due to this.

As for Vine, she decided to take the first step. With the stroke of a pen, she wrote in the sacred book of God that Lucifer was to be the future of humanity, now and forever. With one act, she and Paimon set themselves as proud rebels against Heaven, demanding the return of Lucifer and Lilith and the restoration of mankind to the Garden of Eden.

Their defiance took a bloody turn. Angels warred against angels, and in the aftermath, all the rebels were swiftly punished and cast down to join the man they had sided with. But for Vine, who had emulated her leader in boldness, there was a special punishment awaiting her.

After the battle had sent most of her fellow Ophanim into Hell, Vine and her brother Paimon were chained and brought before the Elders. Though Paimon had coerced his fellow angels to rebellion, Vine had committed the first act of heresy in history by going against the will of God, and declaring another to be a greater power. With Paimon watching, the angels cut Vine’s hands from her wrists, declaring she would never again be permitted to write such heresy. While still howling in agony, the two siblings were cast down, the last to fall, and the impact of their rebellion cemented.

Lucifer and Lilith had not expected company, but after seeing so many of their fellow angels scattered, wounded, and morphed beyond recognition, they understood they needed to take control. With Lilith leading the way, supporting her new husband and great love, the two established their dominion over Hell. The six Seraphim who had fought and fell first became part of the Seven Deadly Sins, with Lucifer reigning as King of Pride and Emperor of Hell. The Ophanim, not wishing to relinquish their titles as Thrones, formed the Royal Circle of demons, a large part becoming the Ars Goetia. Paimon swiftly took leadership of these royal demons, as he had headed the rebellion.

Vine, now Queen Vine, was left in far worse straits.

Despite Lucifer’s best efforts, the wound she sustained after having her hands cut from her wrists was irreversible. Every time he attempted to attach new hands, they would rot and fall off, dooming her to dependence. Fortunately, Lucifer figured out a solution. He had attempted six times to attach hands to her wrists, and thus created six magical hands that would not need to be bound to her wrists in order to work. Vine was relieved to have her autonomy and ability to write restored, but was ultimately haunted by the ordeal she had suffered.

Though she and Paimon were still siblings, Paimon chose to cement his position through royal marriages, heirs, playing games of politics and establishing an iron grip on his territories. Vine however, had been too affected by their previous rebellion, and decided she would remain Queen of her principality and operate from afar. Her power, which remained even after her Fall, would be loaned for the use of future mortals who wished for prophecy, witchcraft, and magic. Residing in the Emerald Tower; a formidable stronghold that mysteriously lacks any doors to permit entry, Vine chose instead to continue the documentation she had once taken pride in….this time for Hell.

Present Day:

Though many eons have passed since the Fall, Vine still remains, more or less, as a solitary figure in the Royal Circle. As King Paimon’s sister and a Queen, she is respected by her royal peers, particularly for her ability to see the past, present and future almost perfectly….without the need of a grimoire. However, she is also mostly a mystery as she remains isolated in her tower, rarely permitting guests. Instead, she makes random appearances at society functions, often to give away lavish gifts and give “spoilers” for peoples future as a form of amusement.

In truth, Vine’s interest in writing the future has….changed. As the population of Hell as grown, her interest has turned more dramatic, resembling that of a novelist for romance and dramas. Her many tomes are in fact “fanfiction” of people’s lives, writing down the intricacies of their relationships and struggles. She even publishes them under pseudonyms online, and seems to revel in the little dramas she writes, since she can already tell what’s going to happen.

Vine does accept the call to service when requested by Lucifer or Lilith, but she has since become notoriously “obnoxious” to her brother and fellow Kings. She often likes to poke fun at Paimon’s pursuit of control and power, perhaps because she already knows the outcome of his machinations, and often speaks dismissively of those she doesn’t find interesting.

What’s stranger is that Vine seems to have adopted a small imp companion in her years of isolation, a tiny illustrator named Triss. No one’s sure how she came to be hired as the Queen’s confidante, or how she even got into the Emerald Tower. But Triss seems to thrive mostly off of reading the queen’s fanfiction, and even draws the subjects to add to the tomes. Triss is a deeply unusual imp, even by normal standards, but is also a deeply devoted friend to Vine, who is exceedingly fond of her.

Abilities and Powers:

Though the Ophanim were irreversibly changed after the Fall, taking on demonic forms, many of them retained their abilities and powers. Vine herself has many of the same powers Paimon has; teleportation, shape-shifting, telekinesis and the ability to traverse through space. However, Paimon has more combative powers than his sister has, which makes him suitable to his role as King. Instead, Vine has the advantage of near-perfect clairvoyance, to which she requires no grimoire or studies of the stars or elements to divine. These visions of the past, present and future are all done through her third eye, which is the only eye that constantly sees everything.

However it is only “nearly” perfect. There still remain people whom Vine refers to as “anomalies”; special people whose futures cannot be divined, nor their pasts uncovered. The best Vine can do is divine the path through the eyes of those around them, but never seeing their point-of-view. Vine has a vested interest in these anomalies, often writing “AU fanfics” where she guesses at their future based on her observation.

Because of these powers of foresight, Vine has taken on many names and forms in order to commune with humans on Earth to retain her importance and power. She has claimed many names and shapes, including that of the Fates. She can be summoned for counsel by humans, but only those who provide the proper tributes; Three cups of wine (red, white and rose), three fruits (apple, pomegranate and fig), and three knives (iron, copper, and steel), lit around a circle with her sigil with three candles (black, white and red). She will permit them three questions, but often keeps her answers ambiguous.

Vine’s weaknesses however, are the same as all immortal demons that live in Hell. She is vulnerable to angelic weapons and arms, and can also be subdued or sealed away by a more powerful demon such as the Seven Deadly Sins, or King Lucifer and Queen Lilith. Though she has yet to make herself so troublesome as to incite their ire, she does have a habit of angering people by refusing to speak of the future. In fact, Vine has a personal rule where she refuses to reveal anything unless it provides ample entertainment for herself.

Personality:

Vine, like most Goetia, is an incredibly proud and vain woman who often disregards the running of her territory, having left it to the work of stewards and magistrates. She has extremely narcissistic tendencies and can be very extravagant and eccentric, often praising her beauty and brilliance, and taking a great deal of stock in public comments online from her fan base. Vine is capable of being good and generous, but that is often reserved with those whom she takes interest in or has a history with.

However, she is also capable of being very vindictive and cold, especially on the subject of her own history. Though few outside of the Goetic Circle know what happened to her hands, she finds it a very sore subject, hiding her scarred wrists under long sleeves and changing the subject when it turns to it. If someone of lower station were to pry at the subject, she would react with swift, unceasing retribution, and will even teleport unfortunate souls into volcanoes if they wrong her.

Yet, despite being Queen, Vine chooses not to marry or have children. She cites her brother Paimon for this reason, stating that child-bearing and marriage was nothing but tedious work, and states that as immortals, the question of their inheritance is rather moot since most of them will live until Armageddon at the very least. Vine enjoys romance stories, but choose to play coy, often flirting but never really pursuing. It’s unknown if Vine has had any lovers, as she does not openly speak of her romantic relationships.

In truth, there is only one person whom Vine treasures above all; her companion Triss. Aside from letting Triss live in the Emerald Tower and hiring her as her illustrator, Vine also shares secrets of the future with her, and they seem to operate on the same wavelengths, enjoying things from afar.

Name: Beatriss (“Triss”) Lansher

Bio:

In truth, no one really knows who Triss is or where she came from. At some point however, during one of Queen Vine’s visits to the Goetic Assemblies, she performed a “magic trick” where she pulled Triss from her long sleeves, and then let her rest on her shoulder for the remainder of the evening. At first Triss was dismissed as nothing more than a royal pet…however as she began making regular attendances at Goetia parties as Vine’s guest it was clear the Queen had a definite soft spot for her.

Triss did manage to secure a position as Royal Illustrator for the Queen’s writing projects. Despite being small enough to fit in a teapot, she is an exceptional artist, and can often draw detailed sketches based off of one lone observation. Triss presently lives in the Emerald Tower, and despite being something of an oddity, appears to be very happy and comfortable in Vine’s service.

Personality:

Triss, like Vine, loves reading about dramatic stories and enjoys the adventure, the plot-twists, and romance arcs of people the Queen writes about. Because she has an insider view on particular Hellborns and humans, she gets the inside scoop on a lot of complex stories from all around. Despite her small stature, she doesn’t seem to be afraid of much, perhaps made comfortable by the Queen’s protection. Triss is also quite bold and blunt. She’s not afraid to use the Queen’s favoritism to her advantage, often pointing to things she wants and asking Vine to get them for her. It’s an effective strategy nonetheless, and Vine rarely denies her anything.

Triss is also a great lover of the arts. Drawing is one fo the things she’s truly passionate for, and she has a creative streak that can imagine many scenarios at the drop of a hat. She also has a great love of charcuterie and cheeses, and it’s believed that a major part of her contract with Vine as her employee is to always have a full charcuterie plate by her bedside. Given it’s the preferred snack of the two when they’re observing the antics of their favorite characters, the Emerald Tower is outfitted with a fromagerie suitable to their tastes.

Given her mistress is so eccentric, Triss herself can be quite the oddball too. She can be unreactive sometimes, and her obsession with cheese and fanfics are often questionable by most.

But all joking's aside, lore actually checks out as Barbatos is the eighth demon in the Lemegeton Salomonis Regis/Lesser Key of King Solomon! So the Dev Team didn't put just a random number. There's also some interesting lore about the number eight, time and infinity but I won't bore you of the details.

I just heard the truth about Barbs being upset at Solomon will be revealed at Lesson 25 so I skipped some story to get to it 🤣 man idk how to react other than my wife doesn't deserve the vitriol the fandom threw at him. 😔

Can you do the new sternritter's Vollstandig Name in the new anime?

Oh yeah, I wasn't sure if there had been any kanji released for that but it seems like the Bleach wiki has something up there for them, although they haven't cited their sources, as usual... They cite the chapter and episode they each appear in respectively, but go figure, you guys... the anime appearance does not include t e x t. So no idea where either the kanji or the romanized names came from.(wait did they get the kanji and katakana from Japanese closedcaptioning? Do they include furigana on [cc] in Japan??)

This wound up way longer than I'd intended...

Balbarriel[神の雷霆] phonetically, BA-RU-BA-RI-E-RU[バルバリエル]. So weirdly this is how Japanese defines the name Ramiel/Remiel/Reniel[רַעַמְאֵל] the name of an actual biblical angel, so both Japanese epithets here, plus the original hebrew all translate as "Thunder of God." But oddly it sounds a lot more like Bariel, which is an angel named in the Ars Paulonia, part of the Lesser Key of Solomon, a grimoire foundational to a lot of the surviving legacy of Christian occultism and demonology nonsense.(i.e. It was some nerd's 18th century Pokedex of fanfic and headcanons.) That being said, it has no actual meaning the way biblical angels(Gabriel, Raphael, Ariel, Uriel, Michael, etc...) do, because it's not hebrew and the idiot who made it up in the 1800s obviously didn't know what he was talking about. It is of course the exact same kanji used for her Schrift The Thunderbolt[雷霆].

Azhalbiora[神の死] meaning "Death of God" and written as phonetically A-ZA-RU-BI-O-RA[アザルビオラ]. Other than seemingly a little lazy the name just kinda doesn't make a lot of sense as a name for her power. And once again there is no apparent basis in actual angelic names so it's not like there's context to work with. It has an almost vaguely fake "arabic" sound to it? Like the sort of shit H.P Lovecraft would've come up with?

Pornipora[神の力] I'm sure any weeb worth their salt can recognize the kanji for "power," so it's "Power of God." And the phonetics are POO-NI-PO-RA[ポーニポラ].

Gagael[神の飢え] at last something resembling creative input! "Hunger of God," in which [飢え] is not just directly lifted from her existing Schrift. ([食いしんぼう]: "Glutton/Gourmand." Same root kanji though so they weren't thinking that hard.) And while the phonetics, GA-GA-E-RU[ガガエル] are yet more gibberish, they at least go back to the sort of appropriated hebrew -el[אֵל] meaning "of god" used in the names of the aforementioned biblical archangels.

[edit]: and since there's a new one to add to this list...

So, you've probably noticed these all just use the same kanji as the girls' actual Schrifts, so there's nothing terribly clever going on, which isn't too surprising but is kind of a shame no one took the opportunity to get creative with it. (Even the attacks names they peppered into the extended fight scene were a little too goofy and bland for my taste. I mean, come on, giving Lili attacks called Spork and Spife?? Really?)

Are basically all gibberish too, so I can't exactly say the names don't fit a "pattern," since there isn't on, but they still don't feel quite right to me, save maybe Lili's. Hasshein and Aschetonig are at least clearly playing with German-esque phonetics*, and Piskiel, Grimaniel, and Jilliel are all playing into recognizable angelology cliches. (Gudoero/Gudoel might be too, but in a way that's hard to separate it from the clearl intentional "ero" wordplay. It just doesn't work outside of th eJapanese phonetics.) And Tartarforas is just suspiciously close to Tartarus but otherwise doesn't really register to my ear as any language that would make sense in the context of the Quincy's associations...

Wait... The German sounding ones might actually be German after all. Like, bad German, but technically German...

*Asche is a n fact German for "Ash," and Ton is "Clay," in fact Tonig can mean "Clayley" as in "Clay-like" so I guess Gerard's actually is German for "Clay-like Ash"... That's actually kind of cool, and vaguely biblical? Adam being sculpted from clay, and "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust" and all that? Huh... Weird I never bothered to actually check that I guess, I just assumed if most of them were nonsense that even the ones that sounded more legit would be too...

Wait... Damn... have I really been slacking this much???

The Haß sound in Hasshein could be the German for "Hate" and although it's not really a ""word"" in a functional sense by itself, hein is a part of the term Freund Hein is a kind of grim reaper where, I guess "Hein" was kind of an old euphemism for the devil for some reason? So, Death personified is the "Friend (of) Hein/TheDevil" but I'd bet the intended reading of Kubo's slapdash German here would be "Hate(s) Death" as is suitable to Askin's whole shtick of narrowly avoiding death.

I'm mad I never sat down and tried to hash those out sooner...

that's not my take on it but relatedly my headcanon is that shit like the lesser key of solomon using what in the pact universe Are real demon names is the result of demons of the seventh choir trying to propagate demon names so people who awaken without guidance or kids who are vulnerable to running into magic bullshit like the ones in rose sr's school days accidentally end up summoning real entities by dabbling in pop occultism

Assorted headcanons: 1/??

When Mina saves up enough money from gigs, she gets a space in the Columbarium dedicated to Kaede. Coincidentally it's in the same vicinity/column as Jackie's. The epitaph on Kaede's space is: I know we'll meet again some sunny day. Keep smiling through like you always do.

Speaking of the Columbarium, Mina visits it frequently; both sober and drunk. At least a couple of times she's slept in there. Sometimes she sits in silence. Sometimes she'll murmur to whoever she's visiting. And when she's sure no one's around she'll have a good little cry.

Mina has a small shrine or altar in her apartment comprised of photographs and mementos, candles and incense as another way to memorialize for Kaede, and later Jackie, Johnny (depending) and any other close friends.

Her fashion style could be described as Kitsch mixed with inspo from 80s, 90s and y2k/trashy y2k. She doesn't shy away from showing skin...or a whale tail; especially if it means displaying her tattoos. Heels are her worse enemy and she doesn't even try to wear them that often.

More often than not, she takes the time to do her makeup, even if it's just going to get ruined on a job. It's something that she enjoys. When dealing with the relic, putting her face on (so to speak) acts as a bit of routine; gives her some normalcy.

Mina collects physical vinyl records and books; most of her collection is vintage or retro pieces.

Some of the programs (rather viruses, malware & daemons) Mina & her hacking group have created include: Girl in the Well (based off Ringu an old Jhorror movie; would cause auditory & visual hallucinations if neural network is infected with the virus) and the 72 Daemons of Solomon (based off the Lesser key of Solomon; each virus, daemon & malware varies in strength and function. there's some shared similarities among some of the 72 but essentially each one is unique in it's own way).

((Seeing Ars Goetia talk on main, and all I can say is that Andrealphus is mentioned to be in the goetia in the Lesser Keys of Solomon. Whether he was part of the main branch or an offshoot (I'm thinking an offshoot that was grafted back into the main via Stolas and Stella's marriage), idk.

Also, since he is a marquis, he really can't go higher in status unless he were to wed above his station. I assume that, since Stella was arranged to be wed to Stolas, it's implied that Andrealphus either couldn't be wed, or wouldn't be. That, or Stella's chances of marrying higher, thus elevating their family's status, were higher than Andre's. This makes sense since Andre, being the first born (and first born son) would have inherited their parent's titles, stations, wealth, etc. This would have left Stella with nothing and marriage as her only choice.

These are just my ramblings/headcanons until canon gives us otherwise (though I suspect canon is going to give us a dead Stella, Andre, or both, since that's how typical yaoi fanfic bullshit tends to go.)))

Headcanon: The character's appearances are inverted when in the human world, like a mirror with a "negative" filter. As we have seen evidence to the contrary, this probably only applies to the rulers of the various rings, or possibly including anyone with the most power?

Evidence: (Paraphrased from the wiki article's trivia) In the real-world "Book of Tobit" and the "Lesser Key of Solomon" depicted Asmodeus's bull head being on the right side and the ram head on the left, the show's depiction of Asmodeus has the bull and ram heads inverted on the opposite side.

Speaking of posting about Helluva Boss, the reason Stolas isn't hundreds of years old is because no one is obligated to strictly adhere to the canon of the real Ars Goetia when interpreting its characters.

There could be in-lore reasons, such as Stolas not being the first, original Stolas. Stolas could be a descendant of the Stolas from the Lesser Key of Solomon. "Stolas" could be more like a title than a name, and our Stolas is one in a line spanning back generations.

The Lesser Key of Solomon may not even exist in HB's canon, or if it does, not in the same way it does in the real world. In our world, it is a physical grimoire compiled in the mid-17th century by human hands. In HB's universe, it may simply exist as a form of hierarchy in Hell that humans possess little to no knowledge of.

None of that is important to the plot right now. If we get explanations re: the Ars Goetia, it will be because they are relevant to the plot. Be patient, but don't be put out if less important details are left up to interpretation. That's part of the fun of fandom: not having every little thing explained to you and filling in the gaps with your own headcanons.

Ask questions, but try to enjoy coming up with your own answers, instead of waiting for every tiny aspect of HB's world-building to be explained to you in painstaking detail. Take the reins. Choose your own adventure.

A Long story Short, I believe I actually made that headcanon before we knew that Solomon was THE Solomon (because I have been here since the very beginning of the fandom, more or less), and pacted with both Asmo & Barbs. So at the time of creation... It wasn’t a concern, lmao

I’m glad you think the reasoning is nice! That combined with how Paimon is depicted (just a skrungly little guy on a dromedary... goals), I couldn’t resist.

BUT this does bring up an interesting canon divergence for Lanternes of Light AU! Here’s what I’ve got regarding all that:

Because the lesser key of solomon is an anonymously published (and from the late 1800s) and generally takes large inspiration from the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, we can take its veracity with a grain of salt. My suggestion is that it was less of a definitive list of demons that (our) Solomon had made pacts with, and more that.... It’s a poorly translated primer on demonic societal hierarchy. 😎

⊰ HEADCANON ⊱ ◦ TATTOOS.

A little trajectory and semi-break down of Eddie’s eventual full-body tattoo. This post doesn’t include his details on his canon tattoos—i.e. the cloud of bats, the demon face, the puppet master, the spider, or the wyvern—even though he does have them before his eventual shift.

BEFORE THE HUNT. ◦ 010. Received from Hawkin’s Laboratory during his nine year stay. After his escape, his PTSD-induced memory loss and the lies he was told by Wayne throughout his life made him question why he had it to begin with. None of what Wayne ever mentioned made any sense. It isn’t until the events of season 1 begin that his memories and nightmares start to worsen that he starts piecing it all together. However, he opts for drugs to reduce said memories / nightmares, and they aren’t fully awakened until Vecna’s powerful resurgence in season 4. Post-S4, the tattoo is slightly altered from scarring inflicted by the demobats. ◦ Sigil of Asmodeus. Keeping up with his freak status, Eddie had dabbled here and there with the occult, even though he’s not fully into it during his school years. He read about the Seven Princes of Hell, and decided that getting Asmodeus’s sigil on the left side of his chest was the most rebellious, as he is the embodiment / representation of the sin Lust. AFTER THE HUNT. Despite clearing his name, there are many who are still suspicious of Eddie, thinking he may have been able to find a loophole in the law, is a Satanist leading a cult, etc. Instead of fighting against it, he leans heavily into the rumors, deciding to transform his body into a work of art for the false deity that placed him on this path in life. As ex-Corroded Coffin / now-Des Cultes takes their hiatus to figure out their re-branding, Eddie is also pouring himself into the occult and designing the layout of his eventual bodysuit of tattoos. Most of the money he makes working for Rick or doing odd jobs goes into removing all of his current tattoos in order to have a blank canvas. Eventually, he decides to use Ars Goetia / The Lesser Keys of Solomon as his muse. ◦ 72 Sigils of the Evil Spirits. King Solomon was said to have made pacts with 72 demons of Hell, and wrote down ways to summon each of them, along with creating their sigils. The entirety of Eddie’s arms and legs are covered in sigils, ranging in size in order to fit every single one. ◦ Devil’s Trap: Placed on the center of his chest. Solomon created this symbol in order to control and immobilize demons he’d summoned. It’s similar to a circle of salt, however, more powerful and persistent due to its permanence. Eddie sees it as a means of protection; not from demons, but from those who wished, and still wish, him harm. ◦ Magical Circle & Triangle. Covers entire back. This collection of symbols was in the evocation of the 72 spirits. In the little story Eddie goes along with (especially in the lore created for Des Cultes), he uses his tattoo as both a summoning circle and a conduit to receive energy from the demons littering his body. ◦ Seal 13: Beneath Devil’s Trap tattoo. Out of the 44 Seals of Solomon, Eddie used this one in combination with the Devil’s Trap, as it’s meant to protect the wielder against harm. I could not find an image of a real person who had the bodysuit I had in mind. All the ones I saw were sigils mixed with unrelated tattoos or scattered willy-nilly all over the place in an aesthetically displeasing way. However, I found this lovely artwork created by Twitter user @ ObAngye that fit with most of what I had in mind, so I’m using this as a reference. Apologies for not using a real-life pic!

FAVORITES; Just an extra little tidbit! I mean, out of 72 different demons, he’s bound to have several favs. Below are the demons, ranks, and a brief explanation of why he likes them.

◦ Asmodeus: King. Primarily nostalgia-based, due to his former tattoo. Aside from its rebellious nature, it’s said Asmodeus grants invincibility to his conjurer and can answer any question they may have. It co-aligns with Eddie feeling invincible after barely escaping the witch-hunt, as well as Des Cultes’ lore that Eddie’s character is a representative of Satan and can grant knowledge and wishes. ◦ Beleth: King. Considered one of the most dangerous of the evil spirits. He grants knowledge to all who summon him, and can make anyone fall in love with his conjurer, even multiple people until they’re satisfied. As related to Des Cultes, Eddie wishes to ❛ seduce ❜ more people into following the band. Side-note: In another grimoire not written by King Solomon, it’s said one must wear a silver ring on their left middle finger in order to speak with Beleth. In keeping to that, Eddie can always be publicly seen with said ring. ◦ Phenix: Marquis. Extremely obedient to those who have the strength to summon him. He expresses a desire to return to Heaven some day, but he’s eventually deceived by those around him. Eddie sees this as being similar to his desire to clear his name, but understanding the events before the Hawkins earthquake will most likely follow him for most of his life, if not all of it. ◦ Stolas: Prince. A teacher of astronomy, history, and all things related to herbs, stones, and poisonous plants. Stolas is considered a pacifist, yet is also one of the most dangerous demons to cross at the same time. He often presents himself as an owl with elongated legs, a raven, or a gaunt young man. It’s said by those who’ve summoned him that he’s extremely talkative, and loves to relay his knowledge and gossip with like-minded individuals. Eddie feels he basically is Stolas, due his penchant for rambling and taking people under his wing.

To cut TVT some slack, Satan's an angel, and angels had plenty of eldritch traits before they were all white people with wings, right down to being brain-meltingly terrifying in their natural state. If ol' Lucifer also happens to look like a screaming, glowing, burning mess of eyes and wings and other bits, then I'd say he counts.

Ok, so, before I begin my response, let me preface that this is not meant to be an attack on you or anyone else, but rather a clarification of my understanding of both Abrahamic mythology AND what the “eldritch abomination” trope was originally defined as before it became reduced to “a monster, but scary.” I write this because I’ve actually done a fair amount of research on both topics, and the misconceptions I see thrown around as fact SO OFTEN on the internet are just... very irritating to me.

First, the internet’s flanderization of the fearsome elements of Biblical angels is on par with Stephen Moffat’s flanderization of Sherlock Holmes’ rudeness. Yes, Biblical angels often prefaced their interactions with humans by shouting “fear not,” and yes, one specific variety of Biblical angel was described as having lots of eyes - the Throne/Ophanim, which also is described as looking like “wheels within wheels,” which is admittedly a very trippy visual. HOWEVER, the other two varieties of angels with explicit description are far less strange - Seraphim are humanoids that may or may not have some reptilian traits and sport six feathery wings. That’s it, that’s how weird they get. Cherubim are a bit stranger, being four-winged creatures with four heads - one human, one lion, one eagle, and one ox - and the legs of an eagle. But both of those are on par with most mythological creatures - if a Seraph is an Eldritch Abomination, so is a minotaur, a harpy, a centaur, and a chimera. The other named varieties of angels do not have specific descriptions of what they look like (or if they do, they’re highly obscure, since none of the books I have on the subject, including a few different translations of the Bible, The Lesser Key of Solomon, and The Book of Enoch, mention them), so while you could headcanon the idea that they are your Lovecraftian nightmare angels, there’s not really solid evidence for it.

There is the implication in some Biblical stories that the radiance of an angel’s form is more than a person can bear, but the same is also true of the Greek Gods. It’s never said to be a matter of lack of comprehension, though, but more like sensory overload - the way you can’t look at the sun for too long without going blind. Is the sun an eldritch abomination? Fuck, it probably is on TV Tropes, isn’t it?

My biggest contention with the “Satan is an eldritch abomination” trope is that, back when the term “eldritch abomination” meant more than “a monster, but, like, scary,” eldritch abominations were defined as being UNKNOWABLE. Their motives, nature, origins, all are supposed to be shrouded in mystery and beyond our comprehension.

But the nature, motives, and origin of angels and demons is, in Biblical lore, intensely fucking knowable and comprehensible.

Satan and all the demons have pretty simple motives! They were jealous of God’s power and his favoritism of mankind, tried to usurp God, and got cast out for it. Angels have simple motives too! They were made to serve God’s will and act as his messengers and agents. Pretty damn simple!

Their origins are simple and the same as everythine else in Abrahamic lore: God made them. Pretty easy to digest!

Their nature, too, is fairly clear cut. They are souls, much like the ones that inhabit human bodies, but do not need bodies of flesh and blood to travel from the afterlife to the mortal world (though in some apocrypha demons have to either inhabit corpses or conjur bodies made of smoke to walk among the living). You could try to interpret that as being more weird and incomprehensible than it is, but that’s exactly what it would be - an interpretation, not canon.

And the real absolute bonkers fucking irony of this is that H.P. Lovecraft specifically set out to create a mythology that was antithetical to Christianity and various European mythologies- that the Eldritch Abominations trope he more or less defined was made in contrast to the world run by a benevolent God of the Bible or the worlds run by incredibly human gods one would find in Norse and Greek mythology. That, UNLIKE God, angels, demons, the Olympians, the Aesir, etc., the Elder Gods and their agents are NOT as simple as black and white forces of good and evil, are BEYOND petty human concerns, and cannot be reduced to descriptions as SIMPLE as “a humanoid with six wings and some scales here and there.” Even Cthulhu, one of the most easily visualized creatures in his canon, is explicitly said NOT to be as simple as most illustrations make him out to be - that “a humanoid with a cuttlefish for a head and dragon wings” isn’t ACTUALLY what he looks like, but the closest human words can come to vaguely describing his appearance.

These are different tropes, and that’s why they have different fucking names. Satan isn’t an Eldritch Abomination, he’s a DEMON. Cthulhu isn’t a demon, he’s an ELDRITCH ABOMINATION. They’re different! They look different, they work differently, they’re different tropes! It’s like saying Godzilla is a Dracula, it makes no goddamn sense!
