the moments where Cloud insists he used to be a 1st Class SOLDIER were a bit more ambiguous in the OG- SOLDIER's hierarchy hadn't really been fleshed out enough for us to know whether it was plausible for Cloud to be making these claims

that's not the case with Remake, coming as it does after several retcons to the SOLDIER hierarchy. in particular, 1st Class Operatives appeared as late game rank-and-fodder random encounters in the OG along with their 2nd and 3rd Class counterparts, but post-retcon, they seem to be exceedingly rare, to the point that we really only know of four in total across the entire franchise. Crisis Core's depiction of them and their mission structure seems to cast them as strategic assets- extreme measures, to be deployed specifically in the securing of high value targets, and in scenarios where Shinra needs to shore up their image by trotting out one of their world famous homegrown "heroes"

it makes Reno's reaction here completely understandable, and makes Cloud seem even more unstable. he might as well be claiming to be the fifth Beatle (Billy Preston notwithstanding)

It was a racist ask and Mena’s lukewarm tee-hee guess governments can’t devote all their funds to safeguarding Indian women tucked me off. All the more when she insinuated -you- were the racist for fact-checking that race bait. I’ve noticed a lot of people take cover behind Indian women and the rape problem in India to spew the most vile racist rhetoric and humour about India. Far fewer people approach this problem with the sobriety it required. It’s just a chance to shit on Indian people they pounce on.

I am still weak from the high fever I recently recovered from and I was doing chores now so I am a little dizzy so forgive me if incorrect but when did she insinuate I was being racist? In fact she reblogged my addition.

But for the funding part, it's kinda complicated which I don't think anon (the og one) or anyone using simplistic logic will understand. On the paper, gender equality programs get wayyyyy more funding than space research. But we also know corruption is a huge thing here. But ofc, we can't measure how much money is actually being in effect, so it could be lesser or it could be more. I haven't dug too deep into it. So I think it's kinda hard to verify how much does the government actually prioritize women's welfare over R&D sector in practice. But I get your point.

And hard agree on the second part. Rape is the only form of misogyny in India people from other countries like to point out. And while it's definitely a problem, I think we should approach the topic with more nuance. The rape rate is high here not simply because Indian men are some unique monsters. But there are number of other conditions. Marital rape being legalized for one. If we criminalize it, I think the number of rapes will go down at least a little bit. And then there's a lack of bathrooms or sex segregated bathrooms in the rural regions. Lack of basic infrastructure like enough street lights. And then the same reasons why rape is an issue in Western countries as well. Law being too lenient towards rapists, fear of reporting due to public smear campaigns and etc. But obviously poverty amplifies a lot of things so there's that. However it's easier to walk down the racist path than to understand why things are this way here.

The gorey kutte will never try analyzing our situation the way they analyze theirs. Double standards. First thing they need to learn is to start viewing us as humans equal to them. How to not be racist beginner volume 1.

That's a total-non-sequitur, right? Nazism grew out of european nationalism.

The Palestinians are a totally different culture from a completely different part of the world. Their writing looks different, their houses & clothing looks different, their faces look different... They got about as much to do with Nazis as the Chinese or the Cherokee.

Heck, in some ways, Islam is alot closer to & more similar to Judaism than, say, Christianity is, in terms of values & philosophy. Both believe in a very abstract god & emphasize scholarship rather than obedience, for example.

Like we recently there was this creepy propaganda music video that calls for the annihilation of Gaza and it described the Gazan's as "swastika bearers" - there ain't a SINGLE swastika in any of the videos coming out of Palestine.

I wonder if it is to do with displaced aggression, taking out anger on an easy, available target. It even appears in chimpanzees, which may take out their frustration on lower-ranking apes.

It's bully logic: If you feel miserable, you need someone who's more miserable than you.

In a way that is a question that has always been close to my hear albeit at a much smaller & more personal scale - I always wondered how my father could verbally & physically abuse me when the same was done to him. Knowing how much it hurts, how humiliating it is, how could he do it to me?

Turns out, some may respond to pain by wanting no one else to suffer pain & become protective of those who are hurt (that is probably why you see soo many jewish ppl protesting not just now, but for any other human rights abuse in recent years), but others grow envious of the throne, the upper end of the boot & decide what's wrong with tyranny is that they're not the ones doing the tyrannizing.

I've seen a lot of this with regards to the authoritarian left, too, like radfems - after thinking this was just a rightwing talking point I've had to painfully realize that some ppl don't want equality, for people to be seen as individuals or for the system to be abolished they want to be on top themselves.

Some will justify it with a false dichotomy that you're either the tyrant or the tyrannized, but even if that's how it started out, for many that's long given way to sadistic glee at being the tyrant. People making mocking tiktoks or propaganda songs are not the least bit scared, they're self-rightheous.

That's kinda the trajectory that produced the OG Nazism too, victim mentality progressing into self-rightheous glee. It's just the fucking drama triangle playing out on the world stage with terrifying lethal consequences.

European Politicians have been spouting canned Israel lobby taling points calling leftist anti war protesters anti-semites... - but it's not leftist anti-war protesters OR arab immigrants vandalizing synagogues and the like, it's usually far righters that are very pro-military. Like, that's very much a homegrown problem, its a remnant of 1900s militarism, not a recent import from Syria.

Any baby experience I have began and ended with Carmi, Sully’s daughter, and Fletch’s son, Hunter, and that was twelve or thirteen years ago. It’s not that I don’t like babies, because I do, but the fact this is Sloane’s baby is making it a little awkward. Still, I settle her a little better in the crook of my arm.

Then I hear the creak of the rocking chair and Thomas’s raspy chuckle and look up. The old fart clearly thinks this is funny.

“You should see the look on your face,” he points out as he continues to rock his chair. “I’m guessing young Sloane becoming a parent was a surprise to you as well?”

 “Yes,” I grumble, just as a little hand slaps against my chin and catches on the short hairs of my beard.

I drop my eyes to Sloane’s baby, who has her little face turned toward me. I don’t know who the dark hair belongs to, but those blue eyes are unmistakably her mother’s.

“Aspen. That’s her name,” Thomas shares. “Pretty little thing, ain’t she?”

She is, especially when her little mouth spreads in a wide, toothless smile.

“You look good holdin’ that baby,” he continues. “Too bad you let her momma slip away, or that wee one could’a been yours.”

Fuck. That stings.

Should’ve known the old man wouldn’t hesitate to poke his finger in the sore spot.

“I’m not the one who left.”
