Spellbound one: Three Mages and a Margarita by Annette Marie

Synopsis:

"Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig.

It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview — to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right?

I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they… offered me the job?

It turns out this place isn't a bar. It's a guild. And the three cocky guys I drenched with a margarita during my trial? Yeah, they were mages. Either I'm exactly the kind of takes-no-shit bartender this guild needs, or there's a good reason no one else wants to work here.

So what's a broke girl to do? Take the job, of course — with a pay raise."

My thoughts:

The first thing I need to get off my chest is that the english (american? Canadian?) Cover is horrible. Who designed that? Who is that?? Why is does it look like that??

The german cover, while being plain purple with golden letters for the title, may look boring, but it did make me pick up the book. If I had seen this one first I would not have touched the story with a ten feet pole.

Anyways.

The story is exactly what the Synopsis said. It leans more to the cozy fantasy side of things (healing, learning to trust others) without actually being cozy fantasy (too much violence and murder in the last third of the book). Tori herself is also a bit too violent to fit into a cozy fantasy lol

The story, short as it was, was very fun to read. The Guild and its members remind me of Fairy Tail in the best way possible (friendship, loyalty, found family).

The action scenes were easy enough to follow, the romance was okay (I kind of want all of them to end up together lmao, this is a first) and the worldbuilding was... there. I hope that this will be worked on in the next book, because I need all the info on Ezra, Aaron's family and Tori's shitty dad.

I finished reading this book on June 24th, 2025.

Damned Souls and a Sangria by Annette Marie - blurrypetals review

I don't know why I never read this back in 2020. Sure, the audiobook wasn't out by the time I finished Lost Talismans and a Tequila in September, but I don't know why I didn't return when this was finally released on audiobook in November. I do remember losing some momentum with the series at the time, but having read this now, I'm disappointed in myself for waiting as long as I did, because I know I would have liked this so much better if I'd read it when the series was fresh in my memory.

That being said, I still did enjoy this a lot. I missed Annette's easy, fun banter and I ate it right up the same way I used to.

While I didn't remember hardly anything that was going on at first, I did still care about what was going on, about what would happen to these characters, particularly to Ezra and, by proxy, Eterran. It was also incredibly wonderful to see Robin and Zylas again! They're my favorites and always steal the show whenever they're on the page.

This was definitely a good conclusion to the Spellbound books and I'm looking forward to moving on to starting Warped and Unveiled!

Spellbound Three: Two Witches and a Whiskey

Synopsis:

Three months ago, I landed a job as a bartender. But not at a bar—at a guild. Yeah, the magic kind.I'm not a badass mage like my three smokin' hot best friends. I'm not a sorcerer or an alchemist, or even a wussy witch. I'm just a human, slinging drinks like a pro and keeping my non-magical nose out of mythic business. Seriously, I know my limits.So why am I currently standing in a black-magic ritual circle across from a fae lord?Somewhere behind me, my three mage friends are battling for their lives. Somewhere near my feet is the rogue witch I just knocked out with a stolen spell. And I have about five seconds to convince this very angry sea god not to shmoosh me like a bug.I'm pretty sure this wasn't in the job description.

My thoughts:

After Dark Arts and a Daiquiri, which was set away from the Guild, Two Witches and a Whiskey is back at the Crow and Hammer.

I liked this book a lot more than the first two - and I liked both! - probably because Tori finally learned to keep her mouth shut once in a while. I know she's supposed to be whitty and funny with all of her sarcasm, but she is also a bit exhausting. Her being exhausted for most of this book made it easier for her to finally take a step back and look at things properly.

Mainly that her relationship with Aaron isn't working out. Which is great because her drooling over her friends is actually the most annoying part about the books. I get it, they are hot! Now, stop being a creep and start being a friend!

Zak, my favorite Druid, is back for this book and he is just as fun as he was in the last one. Ezra being not quite human got teased some more, Kai's family got explained a bit and Tori has a bit of a fallout with her brother over... well. Things. I can't say anything without spoiling the end, which was an interesting twist, though not one I enjoyed a whole lot.

Anyways!

It was still a great book, even though way too short for my taste. I still have one more book lf the series to read before I will have to wait for the next release in october. I'm not sure if I will read the next Spellbound book next or continue with one of the other three books I want to read.

I finished this book on July 10th, 2025.

Yes and no. I have lots of stuffed animals. Some of them are on my bed. I don’t really hug them to sleep or anything though. They’re more like cat beds. The cats love the squishmallows.

I used to whenever I traveled. I have travel anxiety. I have strong Benadryl pills for it now. They help relax my system when I have an attack or need to sleep. Before I discovered I have general anxiety and travel anxiety, it always flairs the first night of a trip, I carried a favorite plush with me on all my trips.

34. what’s your book/movie/tv guilty pleasure?

I love Annette Marie’s guild codex series.

It’s 4 series taking place in the same universe. The characters cross paths several times, and they span several generas. The only commonalities is the urban fantasy genera. There are notes of Romance, but the romance is a very small part of the bigger stories. Major slow burn! The author is also an artist. Her Instagram is full of character art!

I have a couple of signed books.

I will shill for her books any time I get the chance!

She has 2 other series/universes, but the guild codex is my personal favorite!
