also before her passing, Shelley had returned to acting. this would be her last movie; The Forest Hills
I’m sad, but also looking forward to seeing her final film. she will be deeply missed and her legacy won’t be forgotten.
rest in paradise, beautiful angel 🤍

The forest Hills movie review.
sooooo…..uh, this was a movie. This movie was suppose to be about werewolves or at least have a werewolf theme and it kind of does and doesn't. Let me explain….while this movie does have a lot of great concepts, they are just not fully executed well. It feels like the director just filmed a bunch of cool scenes and tried to stitch them together to make a story for this movie. basically it focuses on this guy named rico that had a terrible accident where he suffered severe head trauma and thus has a mental disorder. He goes to a rehab place out in the middle of the woods to help him recover, but as you can expect things go terribly wrong. It all starts out with him thinking he saw a werewolf out in the woods at night and starts thinking he is a werewolf himself. There are other people at the rehab place that start messing with him to further make him believe that he is a werewolf. Eventually rico goes so far off the deep end he starts committing murders and of course because of his mental disorder he doesn't think he is the one committing the murders, but himself as a werewolf doing the murders, so thus he tries to cover up the murders. I’m not going to go too much further into how the movie plays out and how it ends because its kind of very open ended, the movie doesn't end in a really defined conclusion. So is there really a werewolf in this movie? Well, that is kind of up to the viewer to decide since this movie is so open ended with it’s editing style. There a few brief transformation scenes and some very briefs shots of the werewolf suit used for this movie and there are some bloody gory scenes, but its never really confirmed if the guy is really a werewolf or it’s just illusions and hallucinations in his mind. The editing style is kind of both the best and worse part of this movie, story wise it’s a little hard to follow what is going on in this movie and the order of the events that happen, but I think the editing is done well when it shows the main character’s mental breakdown into insanity. So yeah, this is not the werewolf movie I was expecting, but I don’t want to completing bash this movie because like a said it has a lot of great concepts and I can see the directors vision there. It does have a good theme on the human psyche and on how far a person who is mentally unstable can go before they are completely lost to insanity and how far a person can believe something is real when it really isn’t. So if you looking for the traditional hack and slash werewolf movie, this movie is probably not for you.

Remembering Shelley Duvall 1949-2024
Actress / producer Shelley Duvall died this week at 75. Her greatest performance IMHO was in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, as Wendy Torrance. Talk about an actor putting his cast through the ringer! The documentaries and behind-the-scenes footage shows Kubrick and Duvall arguing quite a bit. The scene with the baseball bat apparently took 127 takes!?! While it was quite an experience she said she's never work with him again.

Duvall's famous scared-as-s**t performance in The Shining
She was also a frequent collaborator with Robert Altman appearing in Brewster McCloud, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Thieves Like Us, Nashville, Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull's History Lesson, 3 Women, and Popeye. That's quite a run. The last one, I saw in the theater as a kid and there definitely was a striking resemblance between Duvall and the cartoon Olive Oyl. Her song "He Needs Me" in that soundtrack later appeared in PTA's Punch-Drunk Love.
Other notable films she did included Woody Allen's Annie Hall, Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits, Tim Burton's debut Frankenweenie, Steve Martin's friend in Roxanne, Home Fries, and last year's The Forest Hills  (read my review from the 2023 Salem Horror Fest here).

Duvall and Ringo Starr in the late 70s
In the 80s and 90s she produced a great deal of children's TV shows. In the last decade she was in the news for her health struggles more so than her acting. She dated Paul Simon in the 70s and reportedly dated Ringo Starr in the late 70s. She was married to Dan Gilroy of the 80s band The Breakfast Club, known for former member / Gilroy's ex-wife Madonna and their hit "Right on Track".
