Martha Vickers - had a juicy role in “The Big Sleep” (1946) She played the drug addicted nymphomaniac sister of Lauren Bacall’s character. Martha’s work was terrific! So terrific that in scenes together Martha was out-performing Bacall. That scared the studio heads. They had to protect their star, Lauren Bacall. So, Martha’s role was cut down in the script. Many scenes were removed. Scenes already shot were edited shorter. The star was protected, but some of Martha Vicker’s best work was gone.

i miss when movie trailers had little skits at the beginning like its a shampoo commercial. in the trailer for the big sleep (1946) it starts out with humphrey bogart walking into a bookstore like “hey do you have the maltese falcon” and the bookstore lady is like “bro FUCK the maltese falcon. check this out” and then the actual trailer starts. thats what film was made for
