Finnbar: Here's the thing though, is it still murder if I give them a heads up? Joseph: I think that's called a threat.

Round 1 Part 1 Poll 3
Propaganda
Finnbar lost his wife and son in a pirate attack, steals his ship back with the help of another dilf and they go on adventures.
Carswell Thorne wasn’t a captain when he was in the military but he told everyone to call him that
- Nobody did so
- Thorne’s password is “Captain is King”
- He is the only member of the main cast to not have a personal stake in the rebellion, he’s literally just there to support his new found family
- Speaking of found family he loves them all so much
- Thorne my beloved

This is now my blog for any Redwall themed tournaments I feel like doing or that anyone else may suggest. Best Villain and Most Tragic Death have been done elsewhere but anything else is fair game.
Same mod as @incorrectredwallquotes
Starting out simple with best Redwall book. In order to make the math pretty I’ve included The Great Redwall Feast and A Redwall Winters Tale, additionally the semi-finals will feature triple contestants. Polls will last a week to get some traction.
Match Ups Round 1:
Redwall vs. Eualia Winner: Redwall
Lord Brocktree vs. Marlfox Winner: Marlfox
The Long Patrol vs. Mariel of Redwall Winner: Mariel of Redwall
Rakkety Tam vs. Martin the Warrior Winner: Martin the Warrior
Triss vs. A Redwall Winters Tale Winner: Triss
Mattimeo vs. Outcast of Redwall Winner: Mattimeo
Salamandastron vs. High Rhulain Winner: Salamandastron
Pearls of Lutra vs. Doomwyte Winner: Pearls of Lutra
The Bellmaker vs. Mossflower Winner: Mossflower
The Great Redwall Feast vs. The Sable Quean Winner: The Sable Quean
Loamhedge vs. The Taggerung Winner: The Taggerung
Legend of Luke vs. The Rogue Crew Winner: Legend of Luke
Match Ups Round 2:
Redwall vs. Marlfox Winner: Redwall
Mariel of Redwall vs. Martin the Warrior Winner: Martin the Warrior
Triss vs. Mattimeo Winner: Mattimeo
Salamandastron vs. Pearls of Lutra Winner: Pearls of Lutra
Mossflower vs. The Sable Quean Winner: Mossflower
The Taggerung vs. Legend of Luke Winner: The Taggerung
Match Ups Round 3:
For this round only one contestant will be eliminated, the remaining two contestants will swap competitors and move onto the semi-finals.
Redwall vs. Martin the Warrior vs. Mattimeo Eliminated: Mattimeo
Pearls of Lutra vs. Mossflower vs. The Taggerung Eliminated: Pearls of Lutra
Match Ups Semi-Finals
Contestants have swapped competitors to avoid going against the same book as the previous round.
Martin the Warrior vs. The Taggerung
Redwall vs. Mossflower
Finals
Martin the Warrior vs. Mossflower

I'm sure this has been discussed before, in years past when Redwall was a more active fandom, but. Man Brian Jacques really just flat out forgot what Rufe Brush's personality was supposed to be between Mariel of Redwall and The Bellmaker, didn't he.
I was all for giving him the benefit of the doubt, like maybe since Rufe gets more spotlight in Bellmaker we're just seeing a new side to him or realizing that his "strong, silent" persona was actually just shyness.
But no, Rufe straight up goes from stoically helping lead the Abbey's defenses against Graypatch in one book, to cringing and flinching at the thought of stealing the Pearl Queen in the next. The shrews lend him a rapier and he barely knows which end he's supposed to point. Like buddy why are you shivering in your boots at the thought of facing down a searat crew when you were literally chucking javelins at a different searat crew in the last book you were in.
I'm just going to pretend that Rufe Brush post-Mariel left the abbey to go keep watch for bandits in the woods and left his bellringer duties to his younger and more timid brother, also named Rufe Brush.

Vote for your favorite Redwall villain! Not who you think would win in a fight, but who you think is most effective as a villain or who you enjoy the most!

hobbies include: close reading the Redwall series to answer my most burning questions. such as:
- can I replicate any of these delicious-sounding foodstuffs and would they in fact be delicious if I was able to
- corollary to the above: are we just supposed to read “oat cream” and “nut cheese” every time we see the words “cream” and “cheese”? I think so. bc if not, what tha hell are their livestock animals
- what is Society like? I don’t think we ever see a Mouse City or even Mouse Town though we do see castles and obviously an abbey. are we supposed to believe that most creatures are either in wandering bands or these societies based around a single structure (castle/abbey?)
- they appear to have an idea of what currency is (the bad guys always want treasure — maybe just to have, not to sell? but less ambiguous is some dialogue I just read, “acorn for your thoughts?” “you can have them for free”) but again, we never see anyone using money or making goods for the market. is this after the fall of Mouse Capitalism? are the bad guys (the idea of rat pirates gives me a headache, vis a vis the political/economic systems needed to power piracy) raiding preindustrial mouse societies for treasure/meat?
- corollary to the above: the abbey creatures have oats and wheat but we don’t see anybody farming or trading for farm goods on a large enough scale. is the abbey “orchard” really a like an indigenous forest farm of mixed foodstuffs? is that possible if you live in the same place the whole year or only if you travel each season? I have to do some googling
- both the lack of mixed-species families and the idea of mixed-species families give me a headache. has a squirrel never fallen for a handsome otter? what is the culture shock like if you marry into a subterranean mole family?
- this is the least “important” question but this read through I’ve been desperately trying to figure out What Size Everything Else Is. i’ve come to the conclusion that everything other than animals are at mouse scale, given that they can make seaworthy vessels their own size (a mouse sized vessel with real-world-sized waves seems impossible) and pick and eat apples and plums. but so far it seems like they’ve avoided mentioning how tall trees are — like a person compared to a tree or a mouse compared to a tree?
#rereading The Bellmaker because I own it and have been in a dire reading slump#but this is all based on that and my childhood recollections so I could be wrong#my posts#reading tag

First of all, LOVE Hon Rosie, I’m Hon Rosie’s #1 fan.
Second, nothing but love to the creator because the poll wasn’t a Redwall post and “named after flowers tournament” is such a cute idea- but I’ve NEVER seen her referred to as just “Rosemary” before lol. I was genuinely confused when I read her name. That’s The HONORABLE Rosemary to you, sah!
Anyway, all fun and games, shoutout to Hon Rosie

Finnbar: Okay, I get it. You've had a really hard time lately, you're stressed out, seven people died- Joseph: Twelve, actually. Finnbar: Not the point. Look, they're dead now and really whose fault is that? Joseph: Yours. Finnbar: That's right: no one's.

I love that the guy who kills Nagru is someone who does not know or care who he is in the slightest. Silvamord at least gets taken out by Muta and Rab, who had been haunting her for the entire book as silent berserk warriors after she tried to kill them both and also spent a lot of time and energy tormenting Muta for shits and giggles. Nagru has loads of named characters who deserve a thematically appropriate crack at him, from Dandin to Mariel to Gael to Serena to Iris to Meldrum and so on and so forth. Hell, why not give Glokkpod a go.
Finnbarr literally just got here. He has no idea who any of these people are. He has a tragic backstory that has absolutely nothing to do with Nagru. He fulfilled his character arc 200 pages ago when they dropped a pirate ship into a giant whirlpool. Nagru has no idea why this buff sea otter is murdering him and it's exactly how he deserves to go out, shine on Finny you beautiful bastard.
