Summer 1996. Speaking of getting real: Barbara Gordon confronts Batman about the events of THE KILLING JOKE, in which she was paralyzed by the Joker. This is part of John Ostrander's other major contribution to DC lore; in SUICIDE SQUAD, he and Kim Yale had revived Babs, who had been summarily discarded by Bat-books editor Denny O'Neil as surplus to requirements and also a girl, and reinvented her as Oracle. This scene is from the first story in THE BATMAN CHRONICLES #5, which is not her first appearance as Oracle, but rather an "Oracle: Year One" story chronicling the circumstances of how she created that role. It's infuriating to me that DC has since discarded this version of Barbara Gordon in order to reduce her to Dick Grayson's girlfriend, while also trying to make her younger and younger.

top 5 songs, top 5 single issues of dc comics >:)
top 5 songs:
One foot in front of the other foot by Emilie Autumn
Tango del pecado by Calle 13
Radio-Inactive by Blueprint
Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Greenday
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
top 5 single issues of comics:
Batman Chronicles #5: Oracle Year One: Born of Hope - showstopping, amazing, tells you exactly about Babs's origin as Oracle, so many good quotes. Everyone should read it.
Batman Chronicles #8: The Prison - one of my favorite single issue Talia stories. We get to see inside her head and how she perceives things, we see her execute successfully plan to kill Bruce (But she does not do so), and we get to see her conflict with her father and her dreams!
Secret Origins #20 by Barbara Randall - this is the best Babs as Batgirl origins I've read hands down.
Batgirl (2000) #16 - I love seeing Cass emphasizing with kids and wanting to give people a second chance!! !
Robin: Son of batman #12: Is it cheating to put the end of a storyline in here? Probably. But it has one of my favorite instances of Damian empathizing with another kid he perceives in his situation and that being used to save the world SO...

imagine the brooding, intimidating Batman fighting criminals in the street when he hears this special ringtone in the comms and they're for specific people: his grandkids.
he has to hide in the shadows and goes Grandpa mode, clears his throat and coos lovingly to the comms to talk them.
Nightwing: Oh, he's cooing again.
Red Hood: Lian must have called and asked for more fruit loops.
or
Spoiler: B's doing that baby voice again, it's kinda creepy.
Red Robin: My baby must have dialed, he likes his grandpa's voice.
The rest of the batkids: WHAT BABY?????
Superboy: Our baby.
the batkids curse in different languages, confused and shocked.
***
when some of the rogues or criminals hear Batman in his Grandpa mode, they think he's gone soft.
nope. he's more determined, more restless, more protective, so he won't stop unless they're in Akrham or in jail.
but it's worth it when he comes home to little kids, who are excited to see him.

@mothman-etd had a job contract interview today, and when they got to the "Do you have any further questions for me" segment, the woman doing the interview said, "No, can't think of anything," paused, then said, "No, actually, whose your favorite Batman?"
And @mothman-etd, who has been living with the irradiated fallout of my current Batman hyperfixation for the last six months just started laughing.
His answer was "Adam West," in case you were wondering.
The interviewer apparently loved this because she started talking to him about how Batman is best when he's a little silly while he smiled and nodded along before telling her, "My wife would agree. Tell me, do you like The Muppets..."

I’m a big fan of the coldness of the prison contrasting the bright colours of the flashback. And Talia’s inner voice is… just so good.

I don't care what Grant Morrison or anyone else on the planet says-- this is my Talia. She is complex and traumatized and loving and scared and as gentle as she possibly can be with hands taught only to kill, and Bruce is (until Damian) the brightest, most beautiful thing in her life. She loves that man more than anything. Fuck you. Go read Batman Chronicles #8.

Robin!Jason Todd tried secretly listening to an audiobook one night because crime was super slow and there was a stakeout and he had to keep an eye on everything, but it’s boring.
It worked out well, so he starts doing it more often.
Sometimes he doesn’t get the chance to turn it off or tune it out during a fight, so he then sometimes ends up reacting to the book out loud involuntarily, like saying “what?!” and “no!” in front of bad guys.
It still goes on for another couple weeks until Batman figured out what’s been going on and bans audiobooks on patrols.
(Jason still does it during stakeouts. It’s not patrol)

Characters I Think Could Destroy the One Ring
Harry Dresden - Dude fights off corruption from outside forces seeking to corrode who he is literally all the time. He carried both the Coin of Lasciel and the Winter Knight's Mantle - he can do it. Plus, he's canonically read The Lord of the Rings, so he knows what the Ring is.
Batman - He's Batman. 'Nuff said.
Sam Vimes - Carried the Summoning Dark for all of Thud! and defeated it through sheer force of will, embodied by the Guarding dark.
Carrot - He's so morally good that the Ring wouldn't have anything to grasp onto. Plus, if he got corrupted, what would Same Vimes think of him?
Granny Weatherwax - She's got so much willpower and magical might that she'd probably corrupt the Ring.
Rand al'Thor - Rand's whole thing is keeping such tight control over his own emotions that he continues to function through sheer force of will, overcoming the corruption of saidin and the growing voice of Lews Therrin. He can do it.
Nynaeve al'Mere - If she thought it'd help Rand, she'd carry it all the way, tugging her braid all the while.
Kvothe - He's naturally gifted at just about everything and has been through insane hardships. He can do it.
Monkey D. Luffy - No thoughts, head empty.
Gideon Nav - If the One Ring was a threat to Harrowhark, she'd destroy the Ring out of a desire to protect her Necromancer.
Any more suggestions are welcome.
